1. Ion Temperature Measurements in the MAST-U Divertor During Steady State Plasmas and ELM Burn Through Phenomena

Abstract

This study presents ion temperature (\(T_i\)) measurements in the MAST-U divertor, using a Retarding Field Energy Analyzer (RFEA). Steady state measurements were made during an L-Mode plasma with the strike point on the RFEA. ELM measurements were made with the strike point swept over the RFEA. The scenarios are characterized by a plasma current (\(I_p\)) of 750 kA, line average electron density (\(n_e\)) between \(1.6 \times 10^{19}\) and \(4.5 \times 10^{19}\,\text{m}^{-3}\), and Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) power ranging from 1.1 MW to 1.6 MW. The ion temperatures, peaking at approximately 10 eV in steady state, were compared with electron temperatures (\(T_e\)) obtained from Langmuir probes (LP) at the same radial positions. Preliminary findings reveal a \(T_i/T_e\) ratio in the divertor region less than 1 for shot 48008. High temporal resolution measurements captured the dynamics of Edge Localized Modes (ELMs) Burn Through, providing \(T_i\) data as a radial distance from the probe peaking around 20 eV.

Abstract

Nuclear fusion could offer clean, abundant energy. However, managing the immense power exhausted from the core fusion plasma towards the divertor remains a major challenge. This is compounded in emerging compact reactor designs which promise more cost-effective pathways towards commercial fusion energy. Alternative divertor configurations (ADCs) are a potential solution to this challenge. In this work, we demonstrate exhaust control in ADCs for the first time, on MAST-U. We employ a novel diagnostic strategy for the neutral gas buffer which shields the target. Our work shows that ADCs tackle key risks and uncertainties in realising fusion energy: 1) an enlarged operating window which 2) improves exhaust control through the absorption of transients which can remove the neutral shield and damage the divertor, 3) isolation of each divertor from other reactor regions, enabling combined control. This showcases real-world benefits of alternative divertors for effective heat load management and control in reactors.

Abstract

This study presents the first ion temperature (\(T_i\)) measurements from the MAST-U divertor using a Retarding Field Energy Analyzer (RFEA). Embedded within the flat tile of the closed divertor chamber, the RFEA captures \(T_i\) profiles across various plasma scenarios, including transitions to the Super-X configuration. Measurements were conducted under steady-state and transient plasma conditions characterized by a plasma current (\(I_p\)) of 750 kA, electron density (\(n_e\)) between \(2.2 \times 10^{19}\) and \(4.45 \times 10^{19}\,\text{m}^{-3}\), and Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) power ranging from 3.0 MW to 3.2 MW. The ion temperatures, peaking at approximately 17 eV in steady state, were compared with electron temperatures (\(T_e\)) obtained from Langmuir probes (LP) at identical radial positions. The study also examined ion saturation current density (\(J_{\text{sat}}\)) signals to using methodologies similar to previous MAST experiments. Preliminary findings reveal a \(T_i/T_e\) ratio ranging from 1 to 2.2. Additionally, high temporal resolution measurements (100 $\mu s$) captured the dynamics of Edge Localized Modes (ELMs), showing \(T_i\) peaks at 16.03 +- 1.84 eV during ELM events, nearly three times higher than inter-ELM temperatures.

Abstract

Exhausting power from the hot fusion core to the plasma-facing components is one of the biggest challenges in fusion energy. The MAST Upgrade tokamak uniquely integrates strong containment of neutrals within the exhaust area (divertor) with extreme divertor shaping capability. By systematically altering the divertor shape, this study shows the strongest evidence to date that long-legged divertors with a high magnetic field gradient (total flux expansion) deliver key power exhaust benefits without adversely impacting the hot fusion core. These benefits are already achieved with relatively modest geometry adjustments that are more feasible to integrate in reactor designs. Benefits include reduced target heat loads and improved access to, and stability of, a neutral gas buffer that 'shields' the target and enhances power exhaust (detachment). Analysis and model comparisons shows these benefits are obtained by combining multiple shaping aspects: long-legged divertors have expanded plasma-neutral interaction volume that drive reductions in particle and power loads, while total flux expansion enhances detachment access and stability. Containing the neutrals in the exhaust area with physical structures further augments these shaping benefits. These results demonstrate strategic variation in the divertor geometry and magnetic topology is a potential solution to one of fusion's biggest challenges: power exhaust.

5. Investigations of atomic \& molecular processes of NBI-heated discharges in the MAST Upgrade Super-X divertor with implications for reactors

Abstract

This experimental study presents an in-depth investigation of the performance of the MAST-U Super-X divertor during NBI-heated operation (up to 2.5 MW) focussing on volumetric ion sources and sinks as well as power losses during detachment. The particle balance and power loss analysis revealed the crucial role of Molecular Activated Recombination and Dissociation (MAR and MAD) ion sinks in divertor particle and power balance, which remain pronounced in the change from ohmic to higher power (NBI heated) L-mode conditions. The importance of MAR and MAD remains with double the absorbed NBI heating. MAD results in significant power dissipation (up to $\sim 20 \%$ of $P_{SOL}$), mostly in the cold ($T_e < 5$ eV) detached region. Theoretical and experimental evidence is found for the potential contribution of $D^-$ to MAR and MAD, which warrants further study. These results suggest that MAR and MAD can be relevant in higher power conditions than the ohmic conditions studied previously. Post-processing reactor-scale simulations shows that MAR and MAD can play a significant role in divertor physics and synthetic diagnostic signals of reactor-scale devices, which are currently underestimated in exhaust simulations. This raises implications for the accuracy of reactor-scale divertor simulations of particularly tightly baffled (alternative) divertor configurations.

9. Re-examining the Role of Nuclear Fusion in a Renewables-Based Energy Mix

Abstract

Fusion energy is often regarded as a long-term solution to the world's energy needs. However, even after solving the critical research challenges, engineering and materials science will still impose significant constraints on the characteristics of a fusion power plant. Meanwhile, the global energy grid must transition to low-carbon sources by 2050 to prevent the worst effects of climate change. We review three factors affecting fusion's future trajectory: (1) the significant drop in the price of renewable energy, (2) the intermittency of renewable sources and implications for future energy grids, and (3) the recent proposition of intermediate-level nuclear waste as a product of fusion. Within the scenario assumed by our premises, we find that while there remains a clear motivation to develop fusion power plants, this motivation is likely weakened by the time they become available. We also conclude that most current fusion reactor designs do not take these factors into account and, to increase market penetration, fusion research should consider relaxed nuclear waste design criteria, raw material availability constraints and load-following designs with pulsed operation., Comment: 31 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Energy Policy

Abstract

Detachment, an important mechanism for reducing target heat deposition, is achieved through reductions in power, particle and momentum; which are induced through plasma-atom and plasma-molecule interactions. Experimental research in how those reactions precisely contribute to detachment is limited. In this work, we investigate a new spectroscopic technique to utilise Hydrogen Balmer line measurements to 1) disentangle the Balmer line emission from the various plasma-atom and plasma-molecule interactions; and 2) quantify their contributions to ionisation, recombination and radiative power losses. During detachment, the observed $H\alpha$ emission often strongly increases, which could be an indicator for plasma-molecule interactions involving $H_2^+$ and/or $H^-$. Our analysis technique quantifies the $H\alpha$ emission due to plasma-molecule interactions and uses this to 1) quantify the Balmer line emission contribution due to $H_2^+$ and/or $H^-$; 2) subsequently estimate its resulting particle sinks/sources and radiative power losses. Its performance is verified using synthetic diagnostic techniques of both detached TCV and MAST-U SOLPS-ITER simulations. Experimental results of this technique on TCV data show a bifurcation occurs between the measured total $H\alpha$ and the atomic estimate of $H\alpha$ emission, indicative of the presence of additional $H\alpha$ due to plasma-molecule interactions with $H_2^+$ (and/or $H^-$). An example analysis shows that the hydrogenic line series, even $Ly\alpha$ as well as the medium-n Balmer lines can be significantly influenced by plasma-molecule interactions by tens of percent during which significant Molecular Activated Recombination (MAR) is expected.

Abstract

A new type of large area sensor for infrared imaging bolometers has been developed. It replaces the thin and fragile free-standing metal foils, which typically have been used, with a multi-layer coated sapphire (or diamond) substrate. Sapphire is transparent to mid-infrared wavelengths, is robust against transients, and can be thick enough to even be the vacuum window. The primary radiation absorber is still a thin deposited metal layer, but now it is partially insulated from the supporting sapphire substrate by a black (carbon-based) layer, which also acts as a blackbody remitter. Test results indicate 6× more noise equivalent power density (estimated NEPD = 23 W/m2 at 5 ms camera exposure time, foil temperature decay time 60 ms) for a 2 μm gold-coated sapphire disk compared to estimated NEP = 4 W/m2 at 1.8 ms exposure time, with foil decay time 420 ms, for a nominal 2.5 μm thick platinum-free-standing foil. Abstract

The work by T. K. Ghosh and K. Machida [cond-mat/0510160 and Phys. Rev. A 73, 013613 (2006)] on the sound velocity in a cylindrically confined Fermi superfluid obeying a power-law equation of state is shown to make use of an improper projection of the sound wave equation. This inaccuracy fully accounts for the difference between their results and those previously reported by Capuzzi et al. [cond-mat/0509323 and Phys. Rev. A 73, 021603(R) (2006)]. In this Comment we show that both approaches lead exactly to the same result when the correct weight function is used in the projection. 15. Sound wave propagation in strongly elongated fermion clouds at finite collisionality

Abstract

We evaluate the transition from zero-sound to first-sound behaviour with increasing collisionality in the propagation of density waves through an ultracold gaseous mixture of fermionic atoms confined in the normal state inside a cigar-shaped harmonic trap. We study for this purpose the evolution of the one-body distribution functions associated with a density perturbation generated in the central region of the cloud, as obtained by solving numerically the Vlasov-Landau equations. We examine a variety of trap anisotropies and of repulsive or attractive interaction strengths between the components of the mixture, and the speed of propagation of the density disturbance is found to decrease in both cases as the magnitude of the coupling strength is increased. The results are compared with the values of the speed of zero sound and of first sound, as obtained analytically from the limit of vanishing collisionality and from linearized hydrodynamics. The main effects of the quasi-one-dimensional confinement are the stabilization of zero-sound excitations in the attractive regime before collapse and the lowering of the hydrodynamic sound velocity by a factor \sqrt{3/5} relative to three-dimensional behaviour., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, contribution to the Cortona BEC special issue

Abstract

We use hydrodynamic equations to study sound propagation in a superfluid Fermi gas inside a strongly elongated cigar-shaped trap, with main attention to the transition from the BCS to the unitary regime. We treat first the role of the radial density profile in the quasi-onedimensional limit and then evaluate numerically the effect of the axial confinement in a configuration in which a hole is present in the gas density at the center of the trap. We find that in a strongly elongated trap the speed of sound in both the BCS and the unitary regime differs by a factor sqrt{3/5} from that in a homogeneous three-dimensional superfluid. The predictions of the theory could be tested by measurements of sound-wave propagation in a set-up such as that exploited by M.R. Andrews et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 553 (1997)] for an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate.

18. Excised acoustic black holes: the scattering problem in the time domain

Abstract

The scattering process of a dynamic perturbation impinging on a draining-tub model of an acoustic black hole is numerically solved in the time domain. Analogies with real black holes of General Relativity are explored by using recently developed mathematical tools involving finite elements methods, excision techniques, and constrained evolution schemes for strongly hyperbolic systems. In particular it is shown that superradiant scattering of a quasi-monochromatic wavepacket can produce strong amplification of the signal, offering the possibility of a significant extraction of rotational energy at suitable values of the angular frequency of the vortex and of the central frequency of the wavepacket. The results show that theoretical tools recently developed for gravitational waves can be brought to fruition in the study of other problems in which strong anisotropies are present., Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures

20. A selfconsistent theory of current-induced switching of magnetization

Abstract

A selfconsistent theory of the current-induced switching of magnetization using nonequilibrium Keldysh formalism is developed for a junction of two ferromagnets separated by a nonmagnetic spacer. It is shown that the spin-transfer torques responsible for current-induced switching of magnetization can be calculated from first principles in a steady state when the magnetization of the switching magnet is stationary. The spin-transfer torque is expressed in terms of one-electron surface Green functions for the junction cut into two independent parts by a cleavage plane immediately to the left and right of the switching magnet. The surface Green functions are calculated using a tight-binding Hamiltonian with parameters determined from a fit to an {\it ab initio} band structure.This treatment yields the spin transfer torques taking into account rigorously contributions from all the parts of the junction. To calculate the hysteresis loops of resistance versus current, and hence to determine the critical current for switching, the microscopically calculated spin-transfer torques are used as an input into the phenomenological Landau-Lifshitz equation with Gilbert damping. The present calculations for Co/Cu/Co(111) show that the critical current for switching is $\approx 10^7A/cm^2$, which is in good agreement with experiment., Comment: 23 pages, 16 figures

22. The Crossover beteween Aslamazov-Larkin and Short Wavelength Fluctuations Regimes in HTS Conductivity Experiments

Abstract

We present paraconductivity (AL) measurements in three different high temperature superconductors: a melt textured $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ sample, a $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8$ epitaxial thin film and a highly textured $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_{10}$ tape. The crossovers between different temperature regimes in excess conductivity have been analysed. The Lawrence-Doniach (LD) crossover, which separates the 2D and 3D regimes, shifts from lower to higher temperatures as the compound anisotropy decreases. Once the LD crossover is overcome, the fluctuation conductivity of the three compounds shows the same universal behaviour: for $\epsilon =\ln T/T_c > 0.23$ all the curves bend down according to the $1/\epsilon^3$ law. We study the effect of the density of states (DOS) fluctuations on the thermoelectric coefficient of superconductor above critical temperature. It is shown that in the isotropic case it is the DOS contribution which gives rise to the leading correction to thermoelectric coefficient in spite of previous results where the only Aslamazov-Larkin term was taken into account. Abstract

We present the first analysis of the atomic and molecular processes at play during detachment in the MAST-U Super-X divertor using divertor spectroscopy data. Our analysis indicates detachment in the MAST-U Super-X divertor can be separated into four sequential phases: first, the ionisation region detaches from the target at detachment onset leaving a region of increased molecular densities downstream. The plasma interacts with these molecules, resulting in molecular ions ( D 2 + and/or D 2 − → D + D − ) that further react with the plasma leading to molecular activated recombination and dissociation (MAR and MAD), which results in excited atoms and significant Balmer line emission. Second, the MAR region detaches from the target leaving a sub-eV temperature region downstream. Third, an onset of strong emission from electron-ion recombination (EIR) ensues. Finally, the electron density decays near the target, resulting in the bulk of the electron density moving upstream. The analysis in this paper indicates that plasma-molecule interactions have a larger impact than previously reported and play a critical role in the intensity and interpretation of hydrogen atomic line emission characteristics on MAST-U. Furthermore, we find that the Fulcher band emission profile in the divertor can be used as a proxy for the ionisation region and may also be employed as a plasma temperature diagnostic for improving the separation of hydrogenic emission arising from electron-impact excitation and that from plasma-molecular interactions. We provide evidences for the presence of low electron temperatures (≪0.5 eV) during detachment phases III-IV based on quantitative spectroscopy analysis, a Boltzmann relation of the high-n Balmer line transitions together with an analysis of the brightness of high-n Balmer lines.

Abstract

A prototype infrared video bolometer (IRVB) was successfully deployed in the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak Upgrade (MAST Upgrade or MAST-U), the first deployment of such a diagnostic in a spherical tokamak. The IRVB was designed to study the radiation around the lower x-point, another first in tokamaks, and has the potential to estimate emissivity profiles with spatial resolution beyond what is achievable with resistive bolometry. The system was fully characterized prior to installation on MAST-U, and the results are summarized here. After installation, it was verified that the actual measurement geometry in the tokamak qualitatively matches the design; this is a particularly difficult process for bolometers and was done using specific features of the plasma itself. The installed IRVB measurements are consistent both with observations from other diagnostics, including magnetic reconstruction, visible light cameras, and resistive bolometry, as well as with the IRVB-designed view. Early results show that with conventional divertor geometry and only intrinsic impurities (for example, C and He), the progression of radiative detachment follows a similar path to that observed for large aspect ratio tokamaks: The peak of the radiation moves along the separatrix from the targets to the x-point and high-field side midplane with a toroidally symmetric structure that can eventually lead to strong effects on the core plasma inside the separatrix.

Abstract

Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 10km. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < -5; meteoroid size ≥∼1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/10km. This value is compatible with previous estimates. Finally, the first meteorite was recovered in Italy (Cavezzo, January 2020) thanks to the PRISMA network, a component of the FRIPON science project., FRIPON was initiated by funding from ANR (grant N.13- BS05-0009-03), carried by the Paris Observatory, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris-Saclay University and Institut Pythéas (LAM-CEREGE). Abstract

Prior to a UNESCO International Congress on the planning and management of educational development, a survey on educational planning and management in the world was undertaken. The survey questionnaire was sent to all members states of UNESCO, and, at the time of the conference, 50 countries had replied. This document provides a descriptive synthesis of the responses of the 50 countries. The synthesis falls into six categories: (1) the educational planning/management process; (2) educational planning missions/goals; (3) implementation, management, monitoring; (4) the information/knowledge basis; (5) educational planning, management successes, problems, innovations; and (6) provisional conclusions: lines of force of educational planning and management today. Abstract

Detachment, an important mechanism for reducing target heat deposition, is achieved through reductions in power, particle and momentum; which are induced through plasma–atom and plasma–molecule interactions. Experimental research in how those reactions precisely contribute to detachment is limited. Both plasma–atom as well as plasma–molecule interactions can result in excited hydrogen atoms which emit atomic line emission. In this work, we investigate a new Balmer Spectroscopy technique for Plasma–Molecule Interaction—BaSPMI. This first disentangles the Balmer line emission from the various plasma–atom and plasma–molecule interactions and secondly quantifies their contributions to particle (ionisation and recombination) and power balance (radiative power losses). Its performance is verified using synthetic diagnostic techniques of both attached and detached TCV and MAST-U SOLPS-ITER simulations. We find that H 2 plasma chemistry involving H 2 + and/or H − can substantially elevate the Hα emission during detachment, which we show is an important precursor for Molecular Activated Recombination. An example illustration analysis of the full BaSPMI technique shows that the hydrogenic line series, even Lyα as well as the medium-n Balmer lines, can be significantly influenced by plasma–molecule interactions by tens ofpercent. That has important implications for using atomic hydrogen spectroscopy for diagnosing divertor plasmas.

Abstract

This paper shows experimental results from the TCV tokamak that indicate plasma-molecule interactions involving D2+ and possibly D- play an important role as sinks of energy (through hydrogenic radiation as well as dissociation) and particles (ions) during divertor detachment if low target temperatures (<3 eV) are achieved. Both molecular activated recombination (MAR) and ion source reduction due to a power limitation effect are shown to be important in reducing the ion target flux during a density ramp. In contrast, the electron-ion recombination (EIR) ion sink is too small to play an important role in reducing the ion target flux. MAR or EIR do not occur during N2 seeding induced detachment as the target temperatures are not sufficiently low. The impact of D2+ is shown to be underestimated in present (vibrationally unresolved) SOLPS-ITER simulations, which could result from an underestimated D2 + D+ → D2+ rate. The converged SOLPS-ITER simulations are post-processed with alternative reaction rates, resulting in considerable contributions of D2+ to particle and power losses as well as dissociation below the D2 dissociation area. Those findings are in quantitative agreement with the experimental results.

Abstract

Telomere deregulation is a hallmark of cancer. Telomere length measured in lymphocytes (LTL) has been shown to be a risk marker for several cancers. For pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) consensus is lacking whether risk is associated with long or short telomeres. Mendelian randomization approaches have shown that a score built from SNPs associated with LTL could be used as a robust risk marker. We explored this approach in a large scale study within the PANcreatic Disease ReseArch (PANDoRA) consortium. We analyzed 10 SNPs (ZNF676-rs409627, TERT-rs2736100, CTC1-rs3027234, DHX35-rs6028466, PXK-rs6772228, NAF1-rs7675998, ZNF208-rs8105767, OBFC1-rs9420907, ACYP2-rs11125529 and TERC-rs10936599) alone and combined in a LTL genetic score (“teloscore”, which explains 2.2% of the telomere variability) in relation to PDAC risk in 2,374 cases and 4,326 controls. We identified several associations with PDAC risk, among which the strongest were with the TERT-rs2736100 SNP (OR = 1.54; 95%CI 1.35–1.76; p = 1.54 × 10 −10 ) and a novel one with the NAF1-rs7675998 SNP (OR = 0.80; 95%CI 0.73–0.88; p = 1.87 × 10 −6 , p trend = 3.27 × 10 −7 ). The association of short LTL, measured by the teloscore, with PDAC risk reached genome-wide significance (p = 2.98 × 10 −9 for highest vs. lowest quintile; p = 1.82 × 10 −10 as a continuous variable). In conclusion, we present a novel genome-wide candidate SNP for PDAC risk (TERT-rs2736100), a completely new signal (NAF1-rs7675998) approaching genome-wide significance and we report a strong association between the teloscore and risk of pancreatic cancer, suggesting that telomeres are a potential risk factor for pancreatic cancer.

Abstract

Oggigiorno, a quasi vent’anni di vigenza del Decreto, nella prassi l’adozione del Modello organizzativo (“MOG” o “Modello”) si è assai diffusa tra le aziende, soprattutto medio-grandi e, specularmente, si è assistito a un florilegio di contestazioni e di condanne, ai sensi del d.lgs. 231/2001. In tale contesto, l’Organismo di Vigilanza (di seguito anche “OdV”) ha da sempre rivestito, secondo l’impianto stesso della normativa, un’imprescindibile funzione. E’ quindi diventato sempre più frequente che professionisti di varia estrazione (per lo più avvocati e commercialisti, ma non solo) affianchino alla propria attività ‘tradizionale’ quella connessa all’incarico quale membro di uno (o più) Organismi di Vigilanza. Secondo l’opinione di chi scrive, a tale ramificazione della pratica professionale, non sempre si accompagna una piena consapevolezza dei compiti connaturati al ruolo di componente di OdV e delle conseguenze derivanti dallo svolgimento di un’attività non sempre approfondita; ciò sarebbe invece auspicabile, non solo nell’interesse dell’ente che abbia scelto di dotarsi di un Modello – e che pertanto nutre una legittima aspettativa circa l’adempimento di tali compiti secondo le best practices –, ma anche nell’interesse della stessa persona fisica che, rivestendo un ruolo tanto delicato quale quello di componente dell’Organismo di Vigilanza, potrebbe trovarsi indagata e/o imputata in un procedimento penale, oltre che citata in giudizio innanzi al tribunale civile per una richiesta di risarcimento danni avanzata dall’ente. La presente Tesi, dunque, ha avuto l’obbiettivo di percorrere gli aspetti più rilevanti legati all’operatività dell’Organismo di Vigilanza. Si è partiti dall’analisi della sua natura e della sua composizione, per poi passare al nucleo inaggirabile dei compiti da assolvere in tutte le fasi dell’incarico – insediamento, pianificazione delle attività, svolgimento in concreto della vigilanza, cessazione – fino ad arrivare all’esame dell’, Nowadays, the adoption of the organizational model ("MOG") is very widespread among companies, especially medium-large ones and, in particular, there has been several convictions, pursuant to the Legislative Decree 231/2001. In this context, the Supervisory Body (hereinafter also the "SB") has always played an essential role. It has therefore become increasingly common for professionals from various backgrounds (mostly lawyers and accountants, but not only) to combine their traditional activity with the one connected to the position as a member of one (or more) Supervisory Bodies. According to our opinion, the ramifications of professional practice is not always accompanied by a full observation of the tasks connected to the role of component of the SB and of the consequences deriving from carrying out a not always correct activity; this would instead be desirable, not only in the interest of the company that he had chosen to adopt a Model, but also in the interest of the same individual who, playing a role as delicate as that of member of a Supervisory Body, could be investigated and/or accused in a criminal proceeding, as well as sued before the civil court for a request for compensation for damages. Therefore, this Thesis has had the objective of covering the most relevant aspects related to the Supervisory Body. We started from the analysis of its nature and its composition, to then move on to the core of the tasks to be carried out in all the phases of the assignment - settlement, planning of activities, performance of supervision in practice, termination - up to the exam of the influence that a correct or incorrect performance of these tasks can reflect on the judicial proof of the suitability of the Model in order to prevent crimes, as required for the application of the exoneration clause provide by Rule 6 of Legislative Decree 231/2001.
