Schiff bases ligand (HL) was produced by condensing 4-aminobenzohydrazide with N-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-(4-formylphenoxy)acetamide. Cobalt (II), nickel (II), and copper (II) acetate and ligand are reacted to form 1:1 complexes. By using electronic spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements, infrared data from 1H NMR, and XRD studies, the ligand and its metal complexes have been characterized. According to the spectrum data, the ligand functions as a monobasic bidentate, coordinating with the nitrogen atom of azomethine (−CN−) group and the oxygen atom of carbonyl group in enol form. An octahedral structure has been proposed for Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes according to magnetic and electronic spectrum analysis. Using the DFT method, the computational investigations of the ligand and its metal complexes showed the bond lengths, bond angles, and quantum chemical parameters. To determine the thermal stability and mode of thermal degradation of hydrazone ligand and its complexes, thermogravimetric analysis was approved out on the samples. Two calculated method, Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern, were used to calculate the characteristics of the composites' thermal degradation mechanisms at each step, including their breakdown kinetics. The ligand and its complexes were investigated for their cytotoxicity in vitro compared to human amnion (WISH) and epitheliod carcinoma (Hela). The Ni(II) complex showed highly inhibition against (WISH) growth (IC50 = 18.28±1.8 μM) with relationship to the produced chemicals and other common medications. The interaction between the ligand and its complexes with the genetic tumor (3hb5) receptor was examined using docking experiments.

A series of divalent and one trivalent metal chelates of the azo ligand resulting from coupling of sulfafurazole diazonium chloride with resorcinol have been designed and synthesized. Structure investigation of the isolated chelates have been achieved by applying spectroscopic and analytical tools which collaborated to assure the formation of the metal chelates in the molar ratios of 1L: 1M for Ni(II), Co(II), and Fe(III) chelates, where Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes formed in the ratio 2L : 1M. The geometrical arrangement around the metal canters was concluded from UV-Vis spectra to be octahedral for all metal chelates. The attachment of the ligand to the metal ions took place through the azo group nitrogen and o-hydroxyl oxygen through proton displacement leading to the ligand being in monobasic bidentate binding mode. Antimicrobial and antitumor activities of the interested compounds have been evaluated against alternative microorganisms and cancer cells, respectively, in a trial to investigate their extent of activity in addition to docking studies. The mode of interaction of the compounds with SS-DNA has been examined by UV-Vis spectra and viscosity studies.

Divalent cobalt and copper chelates of the two ligands 1-(1-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene) thiosemicarbazide (EOIT) and 1-(1-benzyl-2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene) thiosemicarbazide (BOIT) are the target compounds of the current study. Identification of the structures and geometries of these compounds have been performed using the possible physicochemical and analytical instruments. Elemental analysis, molar conductance and thermal analysis assured the composition of the four chelates to be [Co(BOIT)Cl]•1·.5H2O (BOIT-Co), [Cu(BOIT)Cl] (BOIT-Cu), [Co(EOIT)Cl2(H2O)]•5H2O (EOIT-Co) and [Cu(EOIT)Cl]•Cl (EOIT-Cu) which was further confirmed by the measurement of mass spectra. The architecture arrangement of the ligand atoms around Co and Cu centers has been determined depending on the UV–Vis spectral measurements and calculation of µeff values. This proved that the copper compounds were square planer whereas the cobalt complexes were tetrahedral or octahedral arrangements. These compounds were examined as corrosion inhibitors for Sabic iron in 1.0 M HCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, mass-loss and scanning electron microscopy techniques. The acquired outcomes disclosed that the examined compounds were found to have high inhibition efficiencies (% IEs) which were dependent on their concentrations and composition. The obtained high % IEs (83–87% at concentration of 400 mg/l) were interpreted by strong adsorption of the compounds’ molecules on the iron surface and such adsorption was discovered to follow Langmuir adsorption isotherm. At the same concentration, the % IEs are slightly increased in the order: EOIT-Cu > BOIT-Cu > EOIT-Co > BOIT-Co. Finally, the investigational results obtained from all employed techniques were in a good consistent with each other.

Coronaviruses are the causative agents of many infectious diseases in human and animals. These included severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), avian infectious bronchitis (IBV) in poultry, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in humans. These results had considerable death burdens and negative influences on social–economic life. Since the appearance of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, continuous investigations have been carried out by researchers to find active compounds, mainly from plants, as natural sources, that could inhibit or stop the proliferation of the causative agent of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). The most common symptoms caused by infections with COVID-19 can include cough, fever, and sore throat. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of active antiviral compounds for treating different strains of coronavirus. Herbal medicine is a class of medication that originates from nature and is aimed at decreasing the use of preservatives, excipients, or other additives and, consequently, lesser side effects. The rapid spread of COVID-19 infection besides the lack of knowledge about any treatments and the growing concern of the public from the virus directed us toward writing this review article in an aim to provide alternatives to the allopathic medicine use. There is a wealth of chemical diversity in the naturally existing compounds, including their antiviral activities, which may encourage their utilization as therapeutics against viral infections, including coronaviruses. The majority of publications on the herbal remedies of coronavirus, MERS, or SARS focused primarily on the use of polar compounds. These substances displayed encouraging inhibitory influences on coronavirus in humans. These include psoralidin, scutellarein, silvestrol, tryptanthrin, caffeic acid, quercetin, myricetin, saikosaponin B2, griffithsin (lectins), and isobavachalcone. Some other agents like lycorine may be useful, if the antiviral activity is obtained by concentrations below the toxic plasma levels. According to the available literatures, the most promising inhibitors of coronaviruses are polyphenolic compounds, which are small molecules with conjugated fused ring structures.
