Search

Key to studies of the rupture process is the identification of its major segmentation into asperities. Common multi-parametric methods invert for a continuous slip distribution; they usually rely on a predefined fault position, nucleation point, planarity, smoothing, etc. Here we propose more flexible low-parametric inversions - multi-point seismic source models, and multi-patch GPS models. We study the recent Mw 7.8 and 7.5 earthquakes in the Eastern-Anatolian fault system, recorded in a high-quality near-regional network of seismic strong motion and GPS stations. Using 40 seismic stations at epicentral distances ~20-300 km, we seek position, time, and DC-constrained mechanism of point-source subevents by a modified iterative deconvolution. We robustly resolve a small number of major asperities and demonstrate bilateral moment release for both earthquakes. Variations of the focal mechanism along the mapped faults are indicated. The inversion of GPS data for finite-fault patches confirms the asperity-like character of the events and validates along-fault changes of the focal mechanism.

Bu araştırmada bazı anjiyotensin dönüştürücü enzim (ADE) inhibitörlerinin kütle azaltma katsayıları, lineer azaltma katsayıları, yarı tabaka kalınlıkları, onda bir tabaka kalınlıkları, ortalama serbest yolları, etkin atom numaraları ve etkin elektron yoğunlukları 1 keV≤ E ≤100 GeV enerji aralığındaki farklı enerji için teorik olarak belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, ADE inhibitörlerinin enerji soğurma yığılma faktörleri ve maruz kalma yığılma faktörleri 0.015 MeV≤E≤15 MeV enerji aralığındaki bazı enerji değerleri için 40 mfp ye kadar farklı penetrasyon derinliklerinde geometrik ilerleme (G-İ) fit katsayıları kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. : In this study, mass attenuation coefficient, linear attenuation coefficient, half value layers, tenth value layers, mean free paths, effective atomic numbers and effective electron densities for different energies in the energy range from 1 keV ≤ E ≤ 100 GeV for Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors were theoretically determined. Also, energy absorption build-up factors and exposure build-up factors for ACE inhibitors were calculated using the geometric progression (G-P) fitting coefficients for some energy values in the energy region of 0.015 MeV≤E≤15 MeV for different penetration depths up to 40 mfp.

As the earliest institute in Turkey dedicated to locating, recording, and archiving earthquakes in the region, the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) has a long history in seismic observation, which dates back to the installation of its first seismometers soon after the devastating Istanbul earthquake of 10 July 1894. For over a century, since the deployment of its first seismometer, the KOERI seismic network has grown steadily in time. In this article, we present the KOERI seismic network facilities as a data center for the seismological community, providing data and services through the European Integrated Data Archive (EIDA) and the Rapid Raw Strong-Motion (RRSM) database, both integrated in the Observatories and Research Facilities for European Seismology (ORFEUS). The objective of this article is to provide an overview of the KOERI seismic services within ORFEUS and to introduce some of the procedures that allow to check the health of the seismic network and the quality of the data recorded at KOERI seismic stations, which are shared through EIDA and RRSM.

Different types of photon shielding parameters such as total mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ), linear attenuation coefficients (μ), half value layers (HVL), mean free paths (MFP), effective atomic numbers (ZEff), energy absorption build-up factors (EABF), exposure build-up factors (EBF) and kerma relative to air were investigated for the fabricated Cu–Ag based alloys. The considered parameters were measured through gamma spectrometer equipped with HPGe detector in order to obtain the experimental attenuation coefficients and other related parameters at various photon energy in the energy range 59.5–1332.5 keV. The measured μ/ρ values were confirmed with WinXCOM database results. FLUKA and GEANT4 simulation codes were used to examine the compatibility of the experimental and WinXCOM database results with these simulation codes. The exposure buildup factors of the alloy samples were estimated with help of Geometric Progression fitting formula over photon energy 0.015–15 MeV up to 40 mfp penetration depth. The results revealed that the exhibited effectiveness of Cu0.2Ag0.8 alloys against high energetic photon radiations had a good performance than that of alternative absorbers such conventional concretes, glasses and some alloys. The results of the present survey can be quite useful for possible applications of such materials, especially in nuclear laboratory and reactor core design for preference of effective photon shielding materials.

KOERI has a long history of earthquake seismology, beginning its observations right after the devastating earthquake on 10 July 1894 in Istanbul, by deploying the first seismograph in the region. Naturally, its seismic network and earthquake catalog evolved since that time, in harmony with the progress in the science of seismology. Currently, the seismic network consists of 242 stations that record approximately 1500 earthquakes per month during periods of regular seismicity. Magnitude is one of the most critical parameters in determining the size of an earthquake, especially in seismic hazard assessment studies. The objective of this study is to homogenize the magnitudes of the KOERI catalog between 2008 and 2018. For this aim, we computed the Magnitude of Completeness (Mc) for two different time periods between 2008–2011 and 2012–2018 by taking into account the duration magnitude (Md) and local magnitude (Ml), where these parameters might not be available jointly for the both time periods considered. As a result, we present a relationship of Md and Ml magnitudes derived from and applicable to KOERI's earthquake catalogs.

Bu çalışmada 1 keV ile 100 GeV enerji aralığında BaFe12O19, SrFe12O19, Y3Fe5O12, LiFeO2 için kütle soğurma katsayıları, moleküler tesirkesitleri, atomik tesir kesitleri, elektronik tesir kesitleri, etkin atom numaraları ve etkin elektron yoğunlukları incelenmiştir. Soğurma parametrelerinin değişimi fotoelektrik etki, Compton saçılması veçift oluşum süreçleriyle yorumlanmıştır.

Seismicity catalogs are the most important product of seismic network operating centers, especially for the earthquake hazard studies. Understanding the nature of regional catalogues has primary importance in shedding light on statistical parameters of the seismicity behavior of that given region. It is a well-known truth that man made inhomogeneties and artificial facts exist in the catalogs due to the change of infrastructure with time. Precisely determined earthquake parameters are important not only for understanding the seismicity and seismotectonics of a region but also for providing an accurate estimation of seismic hazard and risk parameters. In this study, we present an evaluation of Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) - Regional Earthquake Tsunami Monitoring Center (RETMC) seismicity catalog for the time duration of 2013 – 2017. We mapped the magnitude of completeness, Mc, for Turkey for the RETMC catalog. We compared the results with the Mc values of different local earthquake sequences in the region, by also considering the variations of Mc with time. Results of the study will be a reference guide for researchers who benefit from RETMC-KOERI data.

DURAK, RIDVAN/0000-0002-3935-176X; Akman, Ferdi/0000-0002-8838-1762 WOS: 000460717500014 The total atomic attenuation cross-section values in the energy region from 14.932 to 57.142 keV were determined to obtain completely experimental values of the K shell absorption edge energies for Cd, La and Ce elements. The photoelectric cross-sections in the aforementioned energy range, K shell photoelectric cross-sections at the K edge, K shell absorption jump ratios, K shell absorption jump factors and K shell oscillator strength values were obtained with the help of the total atomic attenuation cross-sections. The measurements were performed using the secondary excitation geometry including a high resolution Si(Li) detector. 59.54 keV photon energy emitted from the Am-241 annular radioactive source was used as the primary source. The K shell characteristic X-ray energies of the some selected elements between Y and Er were used as the secondary source. The obtained experimental results were checked with the theoretical and other available experimental results, and it was observed that there is a good agreement between them.

The mass attenuationcoefficients and molar extinction coefficients of specific parts (root, aerialpart and flower) of Alyssum pateri subsp. prostratum have been measured employing a Si(Li) detector in theenergy range between 13.92 and 59.54 keV using an 241Am pointsource. In the present study, the obtained experimental mass attenuationcoefficients and molar extinction coefficients for different organs of plantmaterial were compared with the theoretical calculated values for same samples.The results have been shown that the experimental values are in a goodagreement with the calculated theoretical values using WinXCOM program., Alyssum pateri subsp. prostratum bitkisinin bazı kısımlarının (kök, toprak üstü ve çiçek) kütle azaltmakatsayıları ve molar yok-olma katsayıları 13.92 ve 59.54 keV enerji aralığındabir Si(Li) detektör ve 241Am nokta kaynağı kullanılarak ölçülmüştür.Sunulan bu çalışmada, bitkiselmateryalin farklı organları için elde edilen deneysel kütle azaltmakatsayıları ve molar yok-olma katsayıları teorik hesaplanan değerler ilekarşılaştırılmıştır. The 2020 Mw 6.8 Elazığ (Sivrice) earthquake occurred on the Pütürge segment of the East Anatolian Fault zone. This strike-slip segment is situated between strong earthquakes that happened 100–150 years ago, and, since that time, the segment remained with eight Mw5-6 events, but with no Mw 6+. We relocate the mainshock and aftershock sequence and infer basic characteristics of the event using the ISOLA multiple point source approach and backpropagation of S-waveforms from local strong-motion recordings. Together with clear secondary P wave onsets identified in the recordings, the results suggest complex rupture propagation with reversal of the rupture propagation. We apply a recently developed Bayesian dynamic source inversion with slip-weakening friction and spatially inhomogeneous stress and friction parameters to gain better insight into the rupture process. In the Aegean Sea, the western part of Gökova Gulf, Kos and Bodrum were struck by a 6.6 (Mw) earthquake on July 20, 2017. The fault plane solution for the main shock shows an E-W striking normal type fault with approximately N-S (N4°E) tensional axis (T-axis). Fault plane solutions of 33 aftershocks show two groups of normal type fault with E-W and NE-SW to ENE-WSW orientations. The inversion of the focal mechanisms of the aftershocks yields two different normal faulting stress regimes: one is characterized by an approximately N-S (N5°E) σ3 axis (minimum horizontal stress axis). This extension is obtained from 13 focal mechanisms of aftershocks with approximately E-W direction. The other is characterized by approximately NW-SE (N330°E) σ3 axis. The latter is calculated from 21 seismic faults of aftershocks with approximately NE-SW direction. These aftershocks occurred on relatively small-scale faults that were directed from NE-SW to ENE-WSW, and possibly contributed to expansion of the basin in the west. The 24 focal mechanisms of earthquakes which occurred since 1933 in and around Gökova Basin are introduced into the inversion analysis to obtain the stress state effective in a wider region. The inversion yields an extensional stress regime characterized by an approximately N-S (N355°E) σ3 axis. The E-W directional metric faults, measured in the central part of Gökova Fault Zone bordering the Gökova Gulf in the north, also indicate N-S extension. The NE-SW extension obtained from NE-SW aftershocks appears to be more local and is responsible for the expansion of the western part of the asymmetric Gökova Basin. This N-S extension which appears to act on a regional-scale may be attributed to the geodynamic effects related to the combined forces of the southwestward extrusion of Anatolia and the roll-back process of African subduction beneath Anatolia.

Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI), Regional Earthquake-Tsunami Monitoring Center (RETMC) determine source parameters and share results to researchers for earthquakes with magnitude ≥4.5 in Turkey and surrounding region since 2005. In this study, source parameters for 146 earthquakes with a magnitude of M≥4.2 (2016-2019) were found by using the near-field and regional waveforms of KOERI-RETMC and Ministary of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency Earthquake Department (AFAD). It is thought that the moment tensor catalog created by KDRAE-BDTİM will be a reliable source for the researcher. In addition, the seismicity of 3 important earthquakes happened in Turkey of years 2016-2019 (Ayvacık-Çanakkale 2017, Gökova 2017 and Aegean Sea 2017) were also examined in this study., 2005 yılından beri Kandilli Rasathanesi ve Deprem Araştırma Ensititüsü (KRDAE), Bölgesel Deprem-Tsunami İzleme ve Değerlendirme Merkezi (BDTİM) Türkiye ve civarında meydana gelen büyüklüğü M≥4.5 olan depremler için kaynak parametrelerini belirlemekte ve çözümlerini araştırmacılar için paylaşmaktadır. Bu çalışmada da büyüklüğü M≥4.2 olan 146 deprem için (2016-2019) BDTİM ve Başbakanlık İçişleri Bakanlığı Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı Deprem Dairesi (AFAD)’ne ait yakın-alan ve bölgesel dalga şekilleri kullanılarak kaynak parametreleri bulunmuştur. KDRAE-BDTİM tarafından oluşturulan moment tensör kataloğunun araştırmacılar için güvenilir bir kaynak olacağı düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca 2016-2019 yılları arasında meydana gelen ülkemiz için önem teşkil edecek 3 önemli depremin (Ayvacık-Çanakkale 2017, Gökova 2017 ve Ege Denizi 2017) depremselliği de çalışma kapsamında irdelenmiştir.

Human activity causes vibrations that propagate into the ground as high-frequency seismic waves. Measures to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread changes in human activity, leading to a months-long reduction in seismic noise of up to 50%. The 2020 seismic noise quiet period is the longest and most prominent global anthropogenic seismic noise reduction on record. While the reduction is strongest at surface seismometers in populated areas, this seismic quiescence extends for many kilometers radially and hundreds of meters in depth. This provides an opportunity to detect subtle signals from subsurface seismic sources that would have been concealed in noisier times and to benchmark sources of anthropogenic noise. The studies for protection from gamma radiation have gained speed in recent years. Researchers are in search of a new material without toxic effects such as lead (Pb) and its derivatives. In this study, the polymer composites having different ratios of hematite (25, 50, 75 and 100%) were prepared. To determine the gamma radiation attenuation characteristics of the prepared composites, some gamma-ray radiation attenuation parameters such as transmission factor, mass and linear attenuation coefficients, half and tenth value layers, mean free path, effective atomic number and electron density, energy absorption build-up factor and exposure build-up factor were obtained. The experimental measurements were performed using an HPGe detector and eight different radioactive sources. The photon energies emitted from these sources range from 59.5 keV to 1408.0 keV. The obtained experimental results were compared with the theoretical ones and small differences were observed among them within the limits of experimental uncertainty. It was observed that the mass attenuation coefficients of prepared composites doped with 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% hematite in the range of 59.5–1408.0 keV photon energy were changed between 0.3301–0.0551, 0.4254–0.0545, 0.4943–0.0540 and 0.5461–0.0537 cm2 g−1, respectively. It was reported that the hematite (100%) polymer composite sample is a better gamma radiation shielding material than other prepared composites. WOS: 000523425900003 This paper investigates the radiation shielding properties, such as linear and mass attenuation coefficients, half and tenth value layers, effective atomic number and electron density, and radiation protection efficiency as a function of photon energy, of a new composite, PbI2-doped polyester. The mentioned polyester composite was prepared with different proportions of lead(II) iodide (5% increments between 5 and 20%) so that impact of the dopant amount on radiation shielding could be properly analyzed. The prepared composites were tested in 22 different energies in the energy range of 59.5-1408.0 keV with the use of HPGe detector and eight radioactive point sources. The obtained results were further validated by comparing the results of XCOM computer program, and negligible discrepancies were observed. It was observed that PbI2 (20%) composite is more effective gamma radiation shielding material than other produced composites. In light of this information, it can be said that the shielding efficiency increases with increasing lead(II) iodide amount.

WOS: 000519335200007 K-alpha, K-beta and total K X-ray fluorescence cross-sections, K shell fluorescence yields, K-beta/K-alpha X-ray intensity ratios, K to L shell vacancy transfer probabilities and Auger electrons emission ratios of some selected Mn and Ni compounds have been investigated. The measurements were carried out by using Am-241 radioactive source and high-resolution Si(Li) detector. The measured results were compared with other experimental values and theoretical calculations. Our values are in good concordance with calculated theoretical and other experimental values.

A tsunami warning system providing services in the Eastern Mediterranean, Aegean, Marmara and Black Seas under the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC)—Intergovernmental Coordination Group (ICG) for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (NEAMTWS) framework was established in Turkey by the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) (Özel et al., 2011). KOERI’s Regional Earthquake and Tsunami Monitoring Center (RETMC) was established on the foundations of the legacy KOERI National Earthquake Monitoring Center (NEMC) by adding observation, analysis and operational capability related to tsunami early warnings after an extensive preparatory period during 2009 and 2011. The center initiated its test-mode 7/24 operational status as a national tsunami warning center in 2011, and after a one year period it became operational as a candidate tsunami warning center for NEAMTWS on 1 July 2012, together with CENALT (Centre d’Alerte aux Tsunamis—France) and followed by the NOA (National Observatory of Athens—Greece) on 28 August 2012, INGV (Instituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia—Italy) on 1 October 2014 and IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera—Portugal) on 1 February 2018, completing full coverage of the tsunami-prone regions monitored by NEAMTWS. In this paper, an overview of the progress and continuous improvement of KOERI’s tsunami early warning system will be presented, together with lessons learned from important tsunamigenic events, such as the 20 July 2017 Bodrum–Kos Mw 6.6 and 30 October 2020 Samos–Izmir Mw 6.9 earthquakes. Gaps preventing the completion of an effective tsunami warning cycle and areas for future improvement are also addressed.

In this study, total mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ) values in the energy range from 60 keV to 15 MeV for some contrast agents (Iopamidol, Metrizamide, Iohexol, Ioxaglic acid, Iopromide, Ioversol and Iopentol) were determined with the WinXCOM computer program and GEANT4 computer simulation code. Linear attenuation coefficients (μ), half value layers (HVL), tenth value layers (TVL), mean free paths (mfp), effective atomic numbers (ZEff) and effective electron densities (NEff) in the aforementioned energy range were obtained with the help of the calculated total mass attenuation coefficients. Energy absorption build-up factors (EABF) and exposure build-up factors (EBF) for contrast agents were calculated using the five-parameter geometric progression (G-P) fitting method in the energy region of 0.015 MeV ≤ E ≤ 15 MeV for different penetration depths up to 40 mfp with the help of the equivalent atomic numbers (Zeqv). Kerma relative to air values were investigated in the energy region 0.001 MeV ≤ E ≤ 20 MeV. It has been observed that Ioxaglic acid is a good radiation absorber according to the other studied contrast agents. The present results may contribute to various application areas of radiation research.

The June 12, 2017 Karaburun-Lesvos (North Aegean Sea) earthquake occurred along the NW-SE trending Lesvos fault, along the southern strand of the North Anatolian Fault Zone. In the present study seismotectonic aspects of the 2017 Karaburun-Lesvos earthquake and its aftershock sequence are studied. A rupture model based on finite source analysis of the teleseismic waveforms has shown that the earthquake was associated with a failure of single asperity. About 5 days after the mainshock a temporary seismic network of 8 broadband stations (Real-time Aftershock Forecasting in Turkey, RAFT) had been deployed along the Turkish Aegean coast to enhance the existing regional seismic monitoring and the acquired data have been used to relocate the aftershocks. The temporary deployment significantly improved the aftershock detection capacity and resulted in more precise locations. Prior to the monitoring enhancement a single widespread aftershock cluster was observed; however, the relocated aftershocks, augmented by the RAFT stations, identified two distinct spatially isolated clusters. The first day of the aftershock sequence has been used for retrospective real-time aftershock forecasting up to 7 days following the mainshock. Our results indicate that with a method developed by Omi et al (2013) can be used forecasting aftershocks over a week period successfully employing incompletely detected aftershocks occurred in the first day following the mainshock. Stress tensor analysis of the 33 aftershock source mechanisms has shown local dominance of the extensional tectonics with azimuth and plunge pairs for the three principal stress axes as sigma(1), sigma(2) and sigma(3) are (255 degrees; 76 degrees), (131 degrees; 8 degrees) and (39 degrees; 11 degrees), respectively. Coulomb stress changes imparted by the mainshock onto the nodal planes of the aftershocks show that similar to 67% of the 33 aftershocks have been exposed to positive stress change at least on one of the nodal planes.

Turkey is located in a seismically active region with a complex tectonic history. In order to perform seismic risk assessment precisely, major fault zones (North Anatolian Fault Zone and East Anatolian Fault Zone) that are well defined are monitored continuously. It is a widely known fact that intraplate settings, such as Anatolian Plate, in which devastating earthquakes may occur, need to be observed densely. In this study, we investigate the seismotectonics of Malatya Fault within the Malatya Ovacık Fault Zone (MOFZ), which is one of the major agents responsible for internal deformation acting on Anatolian Plate. Recent geological and paleoseismological studies underline the necessity of comprehending the seismicity and latency of a major earthquake in this fault zone.We applied traditional techniques to investigate data of such a region. Earthquakes that occured in the vicinity of Malatya Fault between the years 2011 and mid-2019 are employed in a detailed analysis. The results of this study are constrained by the distribution of sensor networks in the region, yet allowing to define an active structure which is not included in the active fault map of Turkey, therefore, making a significant contribution to seismic hazard estimation.

The North Anatolian Fault Zone is (NAFZ), which is one of the world’s most active seismic structures, runs along the northern part of Turkey. Seismic velocity structure of the crust in the seismically active regions such as NAFZ plays an important role not only in the accurate hypocenter location and characterization of earthquakes but also in the determination of source mechanism and fault properties. We investigated the Moment Tensor (MT) solutions of earthquakes with respect to different crustal velocity models. MT solutions of earthquakes (M > 4.0) occurred in Yedisu segment, which is located near the intersection of North Anatolian Fault Zone and East Anatolian Fault Zone were examined in the study. MT solutions were calculated by full waveform inversion using the software package ISOLA. Different crustal velocity models and hypocenter location parameters were tested during the computation of MT solutions. All observations are very well justified in terms of moment tensor resolvability (a well-posed problem with a low condition number), satisfactory fit between observed and synthetic waveforms, and large doublecouple percentages. Obtained results provide valuable information in understanding the seismotectonic behaviour of one of the most seismically active regions along the NAFZ.

Novel complexation technique named as ‘phytosome’ plays an important role to facilitate absorption and improve bioavailability. Up till now, the researchers have studied many phyto-phospholipid complexesas drug delivery systemcarrying out different methods (nonsolvent precipitating, supercritical fluids etc.) and provided pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic progresses. The changes of mu/rho, sigma(t,m), sigma(t,a), sigma(t,e), Z(eff) and N-E with photon energy for total photon interaction shows the dominance of different interaction process in different energy regions. The variations of mu/rho, sigma(t,m), sigma(t,e), Z(eff) and N-E depend on the atom number, photon energy and chemical composition of narcotic drugs. Also, these parameters change with number of elements, the range of atomic numbers in narcotic drugs and total molecular weight. The measurements were performed using photons of 59.54 keV emitted from an Am-241 (about 100 mCi) point source and a high resolution Si(Li) detector. The experimental results were compared with theoretical calculations and the other results obtained from literature.

Ofloxacin (OFL) loaded poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) and PCL: poly(butylene succinate) PBS fibers as a drug delivery system in the treatment of ocular infections were prepared by electrospinning. In particular, the effect of some formulation variables including polymer:drug ratio (9:1, 8:2 and 7:3 w/w), solvent systems like dichloromethane (DCM), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), N,Ndimethylacetamide (DMAc) and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), polymer blends of PCL:PBS at 80:20, 60:40 and 40:60 ratios on fiber morphology, fiber size were investigated. The morphology and diameter of the electrospun fibers were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images also the thermal properties were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The drug release behaviour from fibers and in vitro antibacterial activity were also studied. It was noticed that the average fiber diameter decreased with decreasing polymer amount in initial composition meanwhile the release of drug increased with increasing amount of drug in formulations. Solvent system of DCM:DMF at 80:20 ratio improved fiber morphology and resulted in a reduction in fiber diameter. It was found that smooth surface, flexible fibers with uniform morphology were obtained with 80:20 ratio of PCL:PBS compositions. All fibers showed a burst release of OFL. The initial amount of the released OFL was found to vary as a function of PCL:OFL ratio and polymer composition in the fiber. The microbiological activity of optimized formulation was evaluated using P. aeruginosa, S. epidermidis, S. Aureus and E. coli strains and the results of this study clearly demonstrated that freely released OFL from fibers inhibited the growth of the tested bacteria. The process of electrospinning had no adverse effect on the activity of incorporated drug in fibers.

The Li (i = l, α, β, γ) X-ray production cross section and Lα/Ll, Lα/Lβ, Lα/Lγ, Ll/Lβ, Ll/Lγ, and Lβ/Lγ intensity ratio values for Yb, Ta, W, Hg, Tl, Pb, Bi, Th, and U have been determined using an excitation geometry at 59.54 keV incident photon energy. The measurements were performed using an Am-241 annular radioactive source and a high resolution Si(Li) detector. The experimental results of Li X-ray production cross sections and intensity ratios were compared with three different theoretical results and other available experimental results in the literature. Reasonable agreement is typically observed between the present and theoretical results.

The measurements, in the region from 36.847 to 57.142 keV, were done in a transmission geometry utilizing the K alpha(2), K alpha(1), K beta(1) and K beta(2) X-rays from different secondary source targets excited by the 59.54 keV gamma-photons from an Am-241 annular source. This paper presents the first measurement of the effective atomic numbers and electron densities for some samarium compounds near the K edge. In this work, L X-ray fluorescence cross sections, L sub-shell fluorescence yields and level widths and radiative vacancy transfer probabilities of L sub-shells to M i , N i and O i sub-shells were measured for the elements Ho, Lu, W, Hg and Bi. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique was used to measure L X-ray photons. To obtain related parameters, we used 59.54 keV gamma photons of 241 Am radioactive point source. Emitted L X-ray photons from targets were collected by means of a Si(Li) detector with resolution of 180 eV at 5.9 keV. The present results are generally in a good agreement with theoretical calculations and the other results obtained in the literature, within their range considering experimental uncertainty.

However, this assumption is questionable, especially in the case of heavy elements and high energies. In this study, by analysis of the angular distribution of the 22.6 keV photon induced X-ray transitions of U, Tl, Ta and Er the subshell alignment, the anisotropy parameters have been measured and from the measured parameters ? kinematic coefficients, M2/E1 mixing ratios and polarization degrees have been deduced by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) system.
