This manuscript aims to investigate the welding characteristics, bead profile, structural integrity and corrosion behavior of low-carbon steel and Monel grade 400 dissimilar joints. The structures were developed using advanced welding technique, gas tungsten constricted arc welding, with Mo-based filler wire. Dissimilar metals after welding have been tested for internal inspection using X-ray radiography and confirmed to be free from all welding defects. Corrosion tests were carried out at various zones of weldment and characterized in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution at 10 mV/s scan rate. The welding characteristics have been studied by conducting various tests including Vickers hardness, tensile and impact test. To reveal the structural integrity and perform chemical composition analysis of constricted arc weldment, OM/SEM techniques were used. Corrosion rate at steel interface is lower than that at the Monel 400 interface by 9.7% due to the less accumulation of heat. Uniform grain distribution and structural homogeneity were also observed along the weld zone due to constricted arc and controlled heat input.

Abstract Issue Biomedical approaches want to change locals’ behaviors without understanding the sociocultural rationales and contextualizing the cultural and structural backdrop of women’s agency. Objectives This study explored the perceptions and practices of rural mothers about fertility and reproductive health and further examine the lack of preference for contraception and birth spacing in Southern Pakistan. Methodology Using purposive sampling we recruited 15 healthcare providers and 20 mothers from Southern Punjab. Key informants and in-depth interviews were used for data collection. We extracted themes and sub themes to analyse qualitative data. Findings Five major themes identified preventing birth spacing and contraceptive use: (1) cultural barriers (2) economic difficulties and demographic factors; (3) gender-related hurdles; (4) spiritual and religious obstacles, and (5) medico-ethical complications. Nearly, ten sub-themes contributing to these major themes were: custom of girls’ early marriages, in-laws’ permission for contraception, women’s concern for medical complications and preference for safer methods, misuse of contraceptive methods by the medical community, mothers’ perception of contraception as sinful act and controlling birth is against faith, economic and rural-ethnic factors for high fertility, masculine disapproval of condom use, and wishing to give birth to male children. Suggestions We advocate for understanding the sociocultural explanations for low contraceptive use and urge practice of more natural methods of birth spacing over commercial solutions. The study suggests socio-economic development of less developed communities and empowerment of poor, illiterate, and rural women along with behavior change communication strategies.

Abstract Exploring host plant resistance and elevating plant defense mechanisms through the application of exogenous elicitors stands as a promising strategy for integrated pest management. The fall armyworm, a pernicious menace to grain crops in tropical and subtropical regions, stands as a formidable threat due to its capacity for devastation and a wide-ranging spectrum of host plants. There is no literature regarding artificially induced resistance in maize against fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) by exogenous application of phytohormones. The present investigation was performed to evaluate the role of jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA) on two maize hybrids namely FH-1046 and YH-1898 against fall armyworm. Results showed that plant height, biomass and lengths, fresh and dry weight of root shoot which decreased with armyworm infestation improved with phytohormonal application. JA treatment resulted in a higher increase in all attributes as compared to SA treatment. Improvement in relative water contents, photosynthetic pigments and pronounced levels of phenol and proline accumulation were observed in infested plants after JA treatment. Infested plants recovered from oxidative stress as JA application activated and increased the antioxidant enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity in both FH-1046 and YH-1898 . The oxidative stress reduction in infested plants after JA treatment was also evident from a fair decrease in MDA and H2O2 in both varieties. The SA and JA mediated genes expression was studied and it was found that in FH1046 maize cultivar, JA dependent genes, particularly marker genes PR1 and Lox5 were highly expressed along with TPS10 and BBT12. Whereas SPI, WRKY28, ICS and PAL were shown to be activated upon SA application. Evidently, both JA and SA elicited a robust defensive response within the maize plants against the voracious S. frugiperda, which in consequence exerted a discernible influence over the pest's developmental trajectory and physiological dynamics. A decrease in detoxification enzyme activity of the insects was observed after feeding on treated plants. Moreover, it was recorded that the survival and weight gain of FAW feeding on phytohormone treated maize plants also decelerated. In conclusion, FH-1046 was found to be more tolerant than YH-1898 against fall armyworm infestation and 1 mM JA was more effective than 1 mM SA for alleviation of fall armyworm stress. Therefore, it was inferred that phytohormones regulated redox homeostasis to circumvent oxidative damage and mediate essential metabolic events in maize under stress. To our current understanding, this study is the very first presentation of induced resistance in maize against S. frugiperda with the phytohormonal application (JA and SA).

Abstract Terahertz (THz) spectral region from 0.1 to 3 THz is envisaged to hold immense potential in the next generation of wireless technologies. Recently, research has focused on this terahertz gap, because of its unprecedented channel capacities. At the physical layer, the design complexities and fabrication of THz devices, especially antennas are the prime bottlenecks to realize its full potential. This article introduces a cost-effective, easy-to-fabricate, and reproducible sub-THz antenna design based on a single-layer planar printed circuit board technology. The antenna incorporates carefully designed quasi-cross slots and applied machine learning-assisted global optimization techniques to achieve the desired performance metrics. The antenna performance is elucidated through numerical simulations and verified through a rigorous in-house THz experimental framework around 100–110 GHz. The proposed antenna offers a peak gain of 13.90 dBi with less than 1 dB variation within the entire band of 100–110 GHz. The antenna holds the potential to achieve terabits per second data rates and futuristic high-resolution short-range THz imaging applications.

Twinning is widely recognized as an effective and cost-efficient method for controlling the microstructure and properties of wrought magnesium (Mg) alloys. Specifically, twins play a crucial role in initiating dynamic recrystallization (DRX), while twin regions experience rapid recrystallization during static recrystallization (SRX). The activation of twinning can lead to changes in lattice orientation, significantly impacting the final texture in Mg alloys. The active roles of twinning are influenced by various factors during the activation process, and the mobility of twin boundaries (TB) can be amplified by stress effects, dislocation interactions, and thermal effects. Conversely, annealing treatments that involve proper segregation or precipitation on TBs serve to stabilize them, restraining their motion. Events such as segregation may also alter the twinning propensity in Magnesium-rare earth (Mg-RE) alloys. While {10–11} contraction twins (CT) and {10–11}-{10–12} double twins (DT) can promote dynamic recrystallization (DRX), they also pose a risk as potential sources of voids and cracks. Additionally, understanding the nucleation and growth mechanisms of twinning is crucial, and these aspects are briefly reviewed in this article. Considering the factors mentioned above, this article summarizes the recent research progress in this field, shedding light on advancements in recent eras.

Abstract The conventional techniques for protein extraction from biomass are not fully aligned with sustainability goals, so it is important to look for some alternate solutions. By simultaneously extracting both soluble and insoluble proteins, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) offer a viable method for valorizing protein‐rich biomass from a variety of sources. Notably, the molecular crowding effects of DESs may have helped unfolded proteins acquire compact and stable conformations, facilitating solubilization and effective extraction. However, there is still a lack of information regarding how DESs interact with proteins and affect the structure and properties of the recovered proteins. To enable their widespread usage as a sustainable method for extracting dietary proteins, the safety of DES‐extracted proteins must also be addressed. In this paper, we review the state of the science in DES‐mediated protein extraction, focusing on the extraction mechanism and the interactions between DESs and proteins. Additionally, important aspects of DES‐mediated protein extraction that could affect the structure, technofunctional, nutritional characteristics, and safety of extracted protein are explored. DES‐based protein extraction could be helpful to valorize different biomasses for the production of food proteins due to the specific features.

Abstract Background Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) progression is often influenced by biomechanical factors. Biomechanical interventions, such as Trunk stabilization exercise (TSE) and Mulligan joint mobilization (MWM), may offer relief from KOA symptoms and potentially slow disease progression. However, the comparative efficacy of these therapies remains uncertain. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of TSE, Mulligan joint mobilization, and isometric knee strengthening (KSE) on disability, pain severity, and aerobic exercise capacity in patients with KOA. Methodology A randomized controlled trial (RCT) with three intervention groups was conducted between September 2020 to February 2021. The study enrolled adults aged between 40 and 60 years with a confirmed KOA diagnosis recruited from the physical therapy clinic of the Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pakistan. Participants were randomly assigned to receive 24 sessions of either TSE, MWM, or KSE. The knee’s functionality was assessed using the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), pain on a visual analogue scale (VAS), and two objective functional tests—the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and the 11-stair climb test (SCT). Climate change and human interventions over the past few decades have significantly affected the groundwater resources in Ladakh Himalaya. Sparse or lack of suitable data and knowledge gaps are a major challenge in evaluating these impacts. Here, we synthesize the available data to assess the status of groundwater quantity, quality, withdrawal, and contamination in the Leh district of India. The study shows that glacier area has decreased by 40% whereas its volume has reduced by 25% since the Little Ice Age (∼1650 AD). The glacier melt, which influences the recharge, has reduced significantly. The growth of population by 15% per year, expansion of built-up area by 50%, and changes in the socio-ecology have further stressed the groundwater. The bore wells and groundwater draft have increased at ∼115 wells/year and ∼7 MCM/year, respectively. The increase of groundwater development by ∼26 times has reduced the reserves. Hence, for the sustainability of the resource, modeling and managing the impacts is urgently required. In this direction, this paper provides guidelines for researchers, policymakers, and water users to develop an integrative consortium management strategy for the sustainable utilization of the groundwater. HIGHLIGHTS Rise of temperature, high variability of precipitation, and change in its pattern have reduced the groundwater reserves of Ladakh Himalaya.; Population expansion, the tourism industry, urbanization, changes in land use, and water demands have also affected the groundwater and quality.; The need arises to model and manage the resources keeping the current and future scenario of the affecting factors in view.;

Abstract Background Fragile histidine triad (FHIT) has been documented to play a vital role in various cancers including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Keeping in view the plausible role of FHIT gene, we aimed to examine DNA promoter hypermethylation and mRNA expression in ALL cases in Kashmir (North India). Methods A total of 66 cases of ALL were analyzed for FHIT mRNA expression and promoter methylation by qRT-PCR and Methylation Specific-PCR (MS-PCR) respectively. Results FHIT mRNA expression showed significantly decreased expression in ALL cases with mean fold change of 9.24 ± 5.44 as compared to healthy controls (p = 0.01). Objective: This review aims to highlight the effectiveness of various forms of cancer rehabilitation in improving physical, emotional, and social outcomes for patients with cancer. It evaluates the impact of cancer rehabilitation on physical function, psychological health, and social reintegration while identifying barriers and facilitators in the implementation of cancer rehabilitation programs. Methods: A literature search was conducted from December 2023 to February 2024, using two electronic databases: MEDLINE (via PubMed) and Google Scholar. After screening the titles and abstracts, the study selected 34 articles, including RCTs, clinical trials, observational studies, and systematic reviews. The study did not include letters to the editor, editorials, special and short communications, animal-based research, and non-English language publications. There were no restrictions on geographical distribution, age of the sample population, type, severity, duration, and outcome of cancer, or the year range from which the studies were selected. Results: Rehabilitation interventions were effective in different cancer types, including breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers. These interventions addressed common treatment-related challenges such as fatigue, pain, lymphedema, incontinence, and psychological issues, improving patients' quality of life and physical functioning. However, challenges such as physical limitations, emotional distress, access to care, financial barriers, and coordination of services were frequently noted. This highlights the need for tailored, accessible, and well-coordinated rehabilitation programs. Conclusion: Multidisciplinary and coordinated cancer rehabilitation has the potential to improve mobility, quality of life and physical functioning across various cancer types, but challenges in accessibility and coordination must be addressed.

Introduction: Tobacco smoke is the primary cause of illness and death in today's society, and cigarette smoking (CS) remains a substantial health risk. The primary goal of this study was to assess the extent of smoking among adult Kashmiri patients who had undergone cardiovascular procedures and to identify the sociodemographic factors associated with smoking in this population. Methods: A prospective evaluation was conducted on 143 patients who underwent various thoracic and cardio-vascular procedures. With the use of a common, validated questionnaire, data was collected. The investigation utilized Cox proportional hazards regression to explore the associations between smoking and overall mortality, incorporating adjustments for non-communicable diseases, sociodemographic factors, and lifestyle variables. Results: In total, 36.92% (95% CI: 1.54%–1.71%) of people were smokers, with men having a considerably greater prevalence than women (85.42%, 95% CI: 0.75–0.95 vs. 14.58%, 95% CI: 0.08–0.4). The age group of 33–63 years old had the highest rate of smoking prevalence (77.08%). Additionally, the multivariate logistic regression showed that men were substantially more likely than women to smoke (aOR 0.39, 95%CI: 0.28-0.21). A higher odds ratio indicates high cause of smoking. Conclusions: The chance of mortality from daily smoking increased as the intensity of smoking increased. Consequently, persistent tobacco use is linked to a notably increased likelihood of mortality from any cause. Tobacco smoking necessitates a long-term plan of care. It should be treated with the same rigor as other health risks.

This article presents a generalized novel iterative technique for obtaining the approximate solution of systems of linear equations(ABBT0)(xy)=(pq). Parameters involved in the scheme play a vital role to obtain the rapid and best approximate solution. The technique is applied to some important problems and the results are presented in detail. The article compares the effectiveness of the new presented iterative scheme with modified SOR-like method, generalized SOR and SOR-like method for solving large systems of linear equations. The convergence criteria for the iterative scheme are also analysed and it can be observed in the article that the theoretical derivation is supported by numerical calculations and graphical exhibition. Overall, the article provides a new and effective method with a detailed analysis of its performance and convergence criteria for solving systems of linear equations of the form presented. The newly derived technique has potential applications in various fields of science and engineering where systems of linear equations arise and need to be solved.

The optoelectronic devices play a crucial role in our daily lives by seamlessly integrating optics and electronics, enabling technologies like smartphones, solar cells, and optical communication. Solar cells have been very vital in terms of providing sustainable and clean energy. Conventional Perovskite-based solar cells possess limitations like stability and toxicity. Recently, ABO4-type materials have gained attention in optoelectronic devices due to their structural stability and suitable optoelectronic properties for solar cell applications. The structural, electronic, and optical properties of AgWO4 and PdWO4 have been explored using the first principal simulations in line with density functional theory (DFT) using WIEN2K simulation software. The Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof Generalized-Gradient-Approximation (PBE-GGA) is acclimated to optimize the geometry of both materials under consideration. Trans-Balha modified Becke-Johnson approximation (TB-mBJ) approximation is implemented to study materials' optoelectronic properties. Structural analysis revealed the stable structure of AgWO4 and PdWO4 in the monoclinic phase with increasing lattice parameters and decreased unit cell volume upon replacement of Ag with Pd cation on the A site. Both materials ' negative values of ground state energies indicate the stability of both compounds. Upon analysis of the band structure of AgWO4 and PdWO4, it is found that both materials possess a band gap of 1.34eV and 0.73eV,respectively, signifying that both materials under consideration are semiconductors, with a potential for a controlled flow of electrical charges, coming up with promising various optoelectronic applications. Optical characteristics were explored and examined in depth in the framework of hypothetical dielectric constant. It has been discovered that the dielectric function has a broad span of energy integrity when it comes to its dielectric function. Materials with narrow bandgaps and excellent UV light absorption were found suitable for optoelectronic and solar cell applications.

This study addresses the gap in research on the interlanguage pragmatic knowledge of Saudi English learners across two proficiency levels. Recognizing the lack of understanding of interlanguage characteristics within the Saudi context, the research conducts a comprehensive examination of interlanguage pragmatic competence in High Achievers students (HAs) and Low Achievers students (LAs). Using a Discourse Completion Task (DCT) that incorporates essential social variables such as power (P) and distance (D), the study aims to elicit supportive moves in request utterances. Findings indicated that HA students significantly employed a wider variety of linguistic patterns in mitigated request utterances in comparison to LAs. HAs demonstrated awareness of both social power and distance in realizing and producing speech acts, while LAs exhibited less consciousness of social variables influencing external modifications. The study further emphasizes the substantial impact of language proficiency on the use of supportive moves among Saudi EFL learners.

Copper nanoparticles are widely used in many sectors and research endeavors owing to their unique properties, including a large surface area, catalytic capabilities, and high thermal and electrical conductivity. The selection of the base fluid for copper nanoparticles should be contingent upon the anticipated application requirements since various fluids exhibit distinct characteristics that could potentially impact the mobility of the nanoparticles. The present investigation analyzes heat transfer phenomena occurring across a radially stretched surface. The research explores the effects of different states of Cu nanoparticles when combined with base fluids, such as water and silicone oil, on the heat transfer process. The momentum and energy equations are transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equations by applying the similarity transformation. The boundary value problem-fourth-order (BVP4C) method numerically solves the governing ordinary differential equation for the modeled problem. In addition, the influence of various factors such as the slip parameter, solid volume fraction, Eckert number, Prandtl number, and unsteadiness parameter are examined. It has been discovered that blade-shaped nanoparticles transfer heat as quickly as possible via silicone oil and water. However, for platelet-shaped nanoparticles, a minimum heat transfer rate has been noted. The maximum skin friction coefficient is observed in platelet-shaped nanoparticles, while blade-shaped nanoparticles have the lowest skin friction coefficient.

Magnetoelectric coupling and switching charge density in multiferroics have gained the attention of researchers around the world for energy storage, energy harvesting, and their potential applications for pulsating devices. In multiferroics, the absence of inversion symmetry and the presence of antiferromagnetic symmetry give rise to intriguing magnetoelectric coupling. In this paper, bi-phase composites, (1–x)Bi0·9La0·1FeO3 + xSrCoO3 for x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 are made by a facile and time-saving sol–gel auto-combustion technique. For this, we employed lanthanum-doped BiFeO3 to avoid the volatilization of bismuth ions. The composition 0.8Bi0·9La0·1FeO3 + 0.2SrCoO3 (x = 0.2) showed the maximum polarization (Pmax = 2.45 × 10−3 μC/cm2) and effective interfacial interactions depicting symmetrical magnetoelectric coupling response with least distortion along with significant switching charge density (i.e., Qsw = – 2.124 × 10−5 μC/cm2). Whereas reduction in leakage current density is observed with the inclusion of SrCoO3 contents into pure BLFO during polarization phenomena, confirming its insulating properties. Switching charge density from the positive-up- negative-down sequence not only ensured the suitability of switching applications in pulsating devices but also displayed its reliability and long-term stability. The symmetric magnetoelectric coupling showed its potential use in piezoelectric actuators and energy harvester applications. Magnetic attributes and multidomain structures were confirmed by the vibrating sample magnetometer. The maximum value of the squareness ratio appears to be 0.1035 confirming the existence of a multidomain structure for all samples. These outcomes suggest that this particular composition seems extremely viable in developing ultra-sensitive pulsating devices attributed with significant switching charge density.

Abstract While the discussion on generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, is making waves in academia and the popular press, there is a need for more insight into the use of ChatGPT among students and the potential harmful or beneficial consequences associated with its usage. Using samples from two studies, the current research examined the causes and consequences of ChatGPT usage among university students. Study 1 developed and validated an eight-item scale to measure ChatGPT usage by conducting a survey among university students (N = 165). Study 2 used a three-wave time-lagged design to collect data from university students (N = 494) to further validate the scale and test the study’s hypotheses. Study 2 also examined the effects of academic workload, academic time pressure, sensitivity to rewards, and sensitivity to quality on ChatGPT usage. Study 2 further examined the effects of ChatGPT usage on students’ levels of procrastination, memory loss, and academic performance. Study 1 provided evidence for the validity and reliability of the ChatGPT usage scale. Furthermore, study 2 revealed that when students faced higher academic workload and time pressure, they were more likely to use ChatGPT. In contrast, students who were sensitive to rewards were less likely to use ChatGPT. Not surprisingly, use of ChatGPT was likely to develop tendencies for procrastination and memory loss and dampen the students’ academic performance. Finally, academic workload, time pressure, and sensitivity to rewards had indirect effects on students’ outcomes through ChatGPT usage.

This article presents an extensive examination of antennas rooted in nature and biology, showcasing their remarkable performance across a wide spectrum of frequencies—from microwave to terahertz. The limitations of traditional antenna design have become increasingly evident in the face of burgeoning demands for novel communication technologies. Conventional analytical-equation-based approaches struggle to deliver the combined performance characteristics– encompassing bandwidth, gain, radiation pattern, and miniaturization– that emerging technologies necessitate. This has fueled an interest in bio-inspired antenna designs, a paradigm shift drawing inspiration from the ingenious structural solutions found in the living and non-living world, from plant leaves to bird feathers. These bio-inspired designs offer distinct advantages such as broader bandwidth and reduced sizes, making them highly appealing alternatives to the limitations of conventional antenna designs. This review explores a diverse range of bio-inspired designs. Among them are fractal geometries, inspired by self-repeating patterns in nature, which achieve optimal performance. Numerous designs in this category draw inspiration from nature, incorporating patterns observed in snowflakes, tree branches, clouds, and butterflies. Furthermore, nano-antennas have attracted significant attention for their vast potential applications in microwave and optical frequencies, playing a pivotal role in high-resolution spectroscopy, biomedical diagnosis and sensing, quantum photonics, and solar cell applications. By examining design methodologies and potential benefits, this article highlights the transformative potential of nature-inspired antennas. The compelling advantages of bio-inspired approaches necessitate a thorough exploration of their potential, paving the way for the development of next-generation communication systems with unprecedented capabilities.

In this paper, a novel structure of multilayer organic photovoltaic cell has been designed and simulated. The integration of Poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) buffer layer and Poly(9,9-bis(3’-(N,N-dimethyl) N- ethylammoinium propyl-2,7-fluorene)-alt-2,7-(9,9 dioctyl fluorene)) dibromide (PFN:BR) electron transport layer (ETL) in the proposed solar cell has improved the performance significantly. The various performance measuring parameters like power conversion efficiency (PCE), short circuit current (Jsc), open circuit voltage (Voc), fill factor (FF), quantum efficiency (QE) have improved significantly. Furthermore, the effect of different layer thickness, the density of traps $N_{t}$ and temperature on the proposed solar cell has been studied and the optimum value has been obtained. It has been observed that after optimizing the different parameters of the proposed structure, the performance measuring parameters shows an improvement of 14%, 33.3%, 200% and 300% in Voc FF, Jsc and PCE respectively over the reported organic solar cells. Further, a QE of about 90% is achieved in the proposed structure.

Recently, experts have become particularly interested in the treatment of disorders caused by magnesium shortage. Hypomagnesemia is produced by a magnesium deficit in the blood, which is an additional stimulation for different diseases such as vomiting, drowsiness, nausea, loss of appetite, and so on. To compensate for this shortage, magnesium is injected as a nanoparticle in the blood (base fluid). The properties of these magnesium nanoparticles specifically their size, dispersion, and surface characteristics are crucial for optimizing their bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. Advanced material characterization techniques ensure the stability and enhanced performance of these nanoparticles in the physiological environment. Based on these applications, the current research aims to address magnesium deficiency via Powell–Eyring nanofluid flow distorted by the linearly stretchable sheet in the region of the stagnation point. Linear thermal stratification, viscous dissipation, and Joule heating are used to reveal the heat transport features. The magnetic field is applied to the nanofluid at an angle α to further control the fluid dynamics and nanoparticle behavior. Transformations are used to create a set of dimensionless governing equations. Comparative graphs are used to explain the physical behaviors of temperature and velocity fields, demonstrating how material properties impact fluid dynamics. The well-known convergence method (homotopy analysis method) is used to solve the model by comparing graphs.

Dates are valued as a highly nutritious food with multiple nutraceutical properties. Date fruits are widely consumed, especially in the Middle Eastern regions. Dates are a vital source of readily metabolisable natural sugars, minerals, vitamins, dietary fibre, protein, and other high-value natural antioxidant compounds such as carotenoids and phenolics. Nutritional and nutraceutical composition and properties of dates vary according to variety, origin, fruit maturity level, and post-harvest processing conditions. Dates, like many other fruits, are susceptible to microbial contamination, particularly during improper pre- and post-harvest handling and storage. The prevalence of mycotoxin and bacterial contamination not only spoils the functional food quality of dates nevertheless it poses potential adverse effects on human health. With increased interest in the health benefits of dates, there is a greater need to examine and understand potential microbiological safety issues linked with commercial dates. The main goal of this review is to present comprehensive and most up-to-date scientific findings about the high-value components profile, nutritional and nutraceutical qualities, and microbiological safety of various types of dates consumed around the world. Furthermore, the study urges innovative mitigation strategies to combat microbial contamination while maintaining the safety and quality of dates supplied and consumed as part of the food chain.

Solution of nonlinear equations is one of the most frequently encountered issue in engineering and applied sciences. Most of the intricateed engineering problems are modeled in the frame work of nonlinear equation f(x)=0. The significance of iterative algorithms executed by computers in resolving such functions is of paramount importance and undeniable in contemporary times. If we study the simple roots and the roots having multiplicity greater of any nonlinear equations we come to the point that finding the roots of nonlinear equations having multiplicity greater than one is not trivialvia classical iterative methods. Instability or slow convergence rate is faced by these methods, and also sometimes these methods diverge. In this article, we give some innovative and robust iterative techniques for obtaining the approximate solution of nonlinear equations having multiplicity m>1. Quadrature formulas are implemented to obtain iterative techniques for finding roots of nonlinear equations having unknown multiplicity. The derived methods are the variants of modified Newton method with high order of convergence and better accuracy. The convergence criteria of the new techniques are studied by using Taylor series method. Some examples are tested for the sack of implementations of these techniques. Numerical and graphical comparison shows the performance and efficiency of these new techniques.

Medical and dental professionals should continue to adhere to preventive measures after COVID-19 vaccination due to their increased risk of exposure to the virus, particularly as new variants emerge that may heighten their risk perception and susceptibility. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects of COVID-19 vaccination on complacency to adherence to COVID-19 preventive behavioral measures and mental health among medical and dental professionals. In this cross-sectional study 410 medical and dental professionals were recruited from different medical and dental hospitals in Islamabad, Pakistan. The data was collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire comprising of three sections (socio-demographic, information of preventive behaviors performance against COVID-19 after vaccination, mental health status). A chi-square test and ordinal logistic regression were used for analysis. Background The aim of this study was threefold. Firstly, it aimed to introduce and detail a novel method for chemically etching the bases of stainless-steel orthodontic brackets. Secondly, the study sought to investigate the structural alterations within the brackets’ microstructure following chemical etching compared to those with sandblasted bases, using electron microscopy analysis. Lastly, the study aimed to evaluate and compare the long-term durability and survivability of orthodontic brackets with chemically etched bases versus those with sandblasted bases, both bonded using the conventional acid etch technique with Transbond XT adhesive, over an 18-month follow-up period. Methods The study was a randomized clinical control trial with triple blinding and split-mouth study design and consisted of two groups. The brackets in the sandblasted group were prepared by sandblasting the intaglio surface of the base of the bracket with 50 µm SiO2 particles. Hydrofluoric acid was used to roughen the base in the acid-etched group. The bases of the brackets were viewed under an electron microscope to analyze the topographical changes. Results A total of 5,803 brackets (3,006 acid-etch, 2,797 sandblasted) in 310 patients were bonded, in a split-mouth design by the same operator. The patients were followed for 18 months. The failure rate of 2.59% and 2.7% was noted in an acid-etched and sandblasted group, respectively. There was a close approximation of curves in the Kaplan-Meier plot, and the survival distribution of the two groups in the log-rank (Mantel-Cox) test was insignificant; x2 = 0.062 (P value = 0.804). Conclusion Acid etching if the bases of the brackets can be used as an alternative to sandblasting furthermore acid etching can be performed on the chair side.

Society’s growing concern for the environment has led to an increased emphasis on greener products and processes. While societies are becoming more accepting of this change, there are still significant challenges regarding the esthetic aspect of environmentally friendly products. Textiles, which are essential for providing cover and esthetics, contribute to environmental pollution through waste production. Currently, the production of hard waste yarn, a textile intermediate product, utilizes the OE (open-end) spinning method to make use of textile waste. However, this approach has limitations in terms of quality, as it results in yarn with low abrasion resistance, higher pilling, and poor physical appearance of garments. Consequently, consumers are less satisfied with these sustainable yarns, hindering their widespread use. This study focused on preparing ring-spun yarn from recovered fibers of leno waste and subsequently producing knitted fabrics from these yarns. The properties of these fabrics were analyzed and compared with fabrics made from 100% virgin ring spun yarn. The results revealed that the fiber reclaimed from leno waste had a higher content of short fibers. The yarn produced from these fibers exhibited higher imperfections, unevenness, and reduced strength as the percentage of reclaimed fibers increased. Socks made with an increasing percentage of leno waste showed higher thermal resistance. However, as the yarn became finer, the thermal resistance of the socks decreased. On the other hand, the air permeability of the socks increased with a finer yarn count. Overall, the moisture management of all samples was good, with coarser yarns exhibiting better moisture management in socks. An ANOVA approach was used to statistically evaluate the properties of the yarn and fabric. The conclusion drawn from the study was that these recycled yarns can be effectively utilized in the socks and denim industry without compromising quality.

Introduction Water insecurity–the inability to access and benefit from affordable, reliable and safe water for basic needs–is a considerable global health threat. With the urgent need to target interventions to the most vulnerable, accurate and meaningful measurement is a priority. Households use diverse strategies to cope with water insecurity; however, these have not been systematically characterised nor measured. The Food Insecurity Coping Strategies Index has been insightful for targeting nutrition interventions to the most vulnerable. As a first step towards creating an analogous scale for water, this study characterises the largest empirical data set on water insecurity coping strategies and proposes guidance on measuring it using a novel toolkit.Methods Open-ended responses on water insecurity coping (n=2301) were collected across 11 sites in 10 low- and middle-income countries in the Household Water InSecurity Experiences (HWISE) Scale validation study. Responses were characterised and compared with behaviours identified in the literature to construct an instrument to systematically assess coping.Results We identified 19 distinct strategies that households used when experiencing water insecurity. These findings, paired with prior literature, were used to develop a Water Insecurity Coping Strategies Assessment Toolkit with guidance on its piloting to assess coping prevalence, frequency and severity.Conclusions The widespread occurrence of water insecurity coping strategies underscores the importance of understanding their prevalence and severity. The Water Insecurity Coping Strategies Assessment Toolkit offers a comprehensive approach to evaluate these strategies and inform the design and monitoring of interventions targeting those most vulnerable to water insecurity.

The rapid advancement of deepfake technology poses an escalating threat of misinformation and fraud enabled by manipulated media. Despite the risks, a comprehensive understanding of deepfake detection techniques has not materialized. This research tackles this knowledge gap by providing an up-to-date systematic survey of the digital forensic methods used to detect deepfakes. A rigorous methodology is followed, consolidating findings from recent publications on deepfake detection innovation. Prevalent datasets that underpin new techniques are analyzed. The effectiveness and limitations of established and emerging detection approaches across modalities including image, video, text and audio are evaluated. Insights into real-world performance are shared through case studies of high-profile deepfake incidents. Current research limitations around aspects like cross-modality detection are highlighted to inform future work. This timely survey furnishes researchers, practitioners and policymakers with a holistic overview of the state-of-the-art in deepfake detection. It concludes that continuous innovation is imperative to counter the rapidly evolving technological landscape enabling deepfakes.

Mycotoxins, harmful compounds produced by fungal pathogens, pose a severe threat to food safety and consumer health. Some commonly produced mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, fumonisins, trichothecenes, zearalenone, and patulin have serious health implications in humans and animals. Mycotoxin contamination is particularly concerning in regions heavily reliant on staple foods like grains, cereals, and nuts. Preventing mycotoxin contamination is crucial for a sustainable food supply. Chromatographic methods like thin layer chromatography (TLC), gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and liquid chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer (LC/MS), are commonly used to detect mycotoxins; however, there is a need for on-site, rapid, and cost-effective detection methods. Currently, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), lateral flow assays (LFAs), and biosensors are becoming popular analytical tools for rapid detection. Meanwhile, preventing mycotoxin contamination is crucial for food safety and a sustainable food supply. Physical, chemical, and biological approaches have been used to inhibit fungal growth and mycotoxin production. However, new strains resistant to conventional methods have led to the exploration of novel strategies like cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) technology, polyphenols and flavonoids, magnetic materials and nanoparticles, and natural essential oils (NEOs). This paper reviews recent scientific research on mycotoxin toxicity, explores advancements in detecting mycotoxins in various foods, and evaluates the effectiveness of innovative mitigation strategies for controlling and detoxifying mycotoxins.

Aneurysmal dilation of coronary arteries is a rare condition detected during coronary angiography. Due to their poorly elucidated underlying mechanisms, their variable presentations, and the lack of large-scale outcome data on their various treatment modalities, coronary artery aneurysms, and coronary ectasia pose a challenge to the managing clinician. This case presentation provides insight into the challenges regarding the management of the coronary artery aneurysm during the perioperative period.

In this study, the finite volume method was used to evaluate the thermal performance of a flat-plate solar collector used to dry agricultural crops. A 3D numerical model was created and used to predict the outlet air velocities and temperatures for three inlet air velocities. When compared with experimental measurements, the numerical predictions showed good agreement under all testing conditions. Then, the numerical model was used to predict the internal airflow and heat transfer characteristics of the collector. The internal baffles were found to increase the dwell time and efficiency but also promote flow separation, which resulted in flow loss. In addition, the collector has a transparent cover that results in a substantial heat loss, which can be mitigated by adding a vacuum gap between the flow inside the collector and the cover. Increasing the flow rate increased the heat loss and decreased the heat uptake, which decreased the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the collector. Because the heat was lost through long-wavelength radiation via the transparent cover and sidewalls, coating the absorber plate with black matte paint to increase the solar radiation absorption coefficient did not improve the drying performance.

Abstract A multifunctional beam splitting frequency selective surface (FSS) is modeled, analyzed, and tested in transmission and reflection modes. The proposed FSS comprises a C-shaped split-ring resonator designed and fabricated on an ultrathin, flexible polyimide material. When a linearly polarized incident wave interacts with the unit cell of the proposed FSS, half of the wave is reflected, and the other half is transmitted at two frequency bands from 5.8–6.2 GHz and 18.5–22 GHz. Moreover, the proposed FSS is angularly stable upto 40° and also performs simultaneous beam splitting and quarter-wave operation within one of its two bands of operation i.e., from 16.5–18.2 GHz. Such flexible beam splitting FSSs with polarization transformation operation and having angular stability, size miniaturization and multi-band operation is a specialized component having potential to be used for electromagnetic wave manipulation in antenna systems, radar technology, stealth technology, wireless communication, satellite communication, medical imaging, security and surveillance, aerospace and defense, and automotive radar.

Abstract This work presents an optically transparent and flexible MIMO antenna that features two square patch elements placed in close proximity, aiming to meet the demands of compactness, flexibility, optical transparency, and visual appeal for IoT applications and future 5G wireless communication. The design includes a simple offset fed configuration to achieve the required isolation and impedance matching. It simplifies the process of creating closely spaced transparent MIMO antenna configurations. By optimizing and analyzing this structure, the antenna achieves better isolation and diversity gain performance, even when the patch elements are positioned very close to each other. To achieve optical transparency and flexibility, the antenna uses thin polyethylene terephthalate (PET) material as a substrate, which is a thermoplastic polymer resin from the polyester family. The wired metal mesh parameters for conducting parts of the MIMO antenna and offset position of the feed are carefully optimized to achieve required optical transparency, isolation, impedance matching and radiation performance without any complex decoupling or impedance matching network.

Abstract Current clinical practice guidelines lack explicit guidance on the indications and appropriate timing of venous ultrasound (US) in lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) follow-up. Moreover, abnormal findings reported on venous US in DVT follow-up or suspected recurrent DVT may be difficult for clinicians to interpret, which carries risk of harm from inappropriate use of anti- coagulation and increased healthcare resource utilization. Due to the above factors, over-use of ultrasound in diagnosis and follow-up of lower extremity DVT has been reported in western health systems. We have undertaken a case-based discussion and a scoping review of existing guidelines on the use of venousUS following prior diagnosis of DVT, to guide appropriate interpretation of commonly reported US abnormalities and provide our suggestions in the light of best available evidence on appropriate timing to perform follow-up US in management of lower extremity DVT.

This study examined access to water, food, and nutrition programs among marginalized communities in Southern Punjab, Pakistan, and their effects on nutrition. Both qualitative and quantitative data were used in this study. We held two focus group discussions (one with 10 males and one with 10 females) and conducted in-depth interviews with 15 key stakeholders, including 20 mothers and 10 healthcare providers. A survey of 235 households was carried out to evaluate water and food insecurity, with the data analyzed using Wilcoxon’s rank-sum test, t-test, and Pearson’s chi-square test. The results revealed that 90% of households experienced moderate-to-severe water insecurity, and 73% faced moderate-to-severe food insecurity. Household water and food insecurity were positively correlated with each other (correlation coefficient = 0.205; p = 0.004). Greater household water (p = 0.028) and food insecurity (p < 0.001) were both associated with higher perceived stress. Furthermore, lower socioeconomic status was strongly related to higher levels of water (p < 0.001) and food insecurity (p < 0.001). Qualitative findings highlight the impact of colonial and post-colonial policies, which have resulted in water injustice, supply issues, and corruption in water administration. Women face significant challenges in fetching water, including stigma, harassment, and gender vulnerabilities, leading to conflicts and injuries. Water scarcity and poor quality adversely affect sanitation, hygiene, and breastfeeding practices among lactating mothers. Structural adjustment policies have exacerbated inflation and reduced purchasing power. Respondents reported a widespread lack of dietary diversity and food quality. Nutrition programs face obstacles such as the exclusion of people with low social and cultural capital, underfunding, weak monitoring, health sector corruption, and the influence of formula milk companies allied with the medical community and bureaucracy. This study concludes that addressing the macro-political and economic causes of undernutrition should be prioritized to improve nutrition security in Pakistan.

Current methods of pain measurement are inadequate in capturing the complexity of the pain experience. This limitation arises mainly because these methods tend to overlook the multiple dimensions of pain during assessment, heavily relying on self-reported measures, which inherently have their drawbacks. Self-reported measures aim to gauge the pain severity experienced by an individual, based solely on their perception of the most intense pain sensation. However, these measures are prone to various biases and may not accurately reflect the actual pain experienced. To overcome these limitations, a new system of pain assessment is necessary, which minimizes subjective involvement and provides a more accurate representation of pain. The ‘Pain Calculator’ is a newly developed tool that has demonstrated promising accuracy in measuring somatic pain in the low back region. This tool effectively overcomes the subjective biases characteristic of the self-reported measures and provides a reliable and clinically feasible alternative to the existing pain assessment tools. This article proposes a tri–band Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna operating at 5.2 – 5.7 GHz (5G Wi–Fi), 11.8 GHz – 17.3 GHz (Ku–band), and 23.4 GHz – 37.3 GHz (5G millimeter–Wave) frequency bands. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of a 2 × 2 configuration with a defective ground structure on Rogers–5880 substrate. An innovative passive decoupling structure, featuring thin microstrip lines positioned between the radiating elements, has been meticulously engineered to ensure a high level of isolation, achieving values of less than −20 dB. The peak gain of the MIMO antenna is found to be 3.05 dB, 5.27 dB, and 6.97 dB at 5.5 GHz, 17 GHz, and 35.5 GHz frequency bands, respectively. Measured ECC is less than 0.007, and DG is greater than 9.96. The radiation efficiency is above 90 %, TARC is less than –10 dB and channel capacity loss is below 0.4 Bits/s/Hz in all the bands of operation. The simulated and measured results are found to be in good agreement and the proposed MIMO antenna offers numerous advantages, including extensive frequency coverage, broad bandwidth, exceptional isolation, high gain, and efficiency. Consequently, it emerges as a promising choice for devices operating in Sub-6 GHz, Ku-band, and millimeter-wave applications.

Cryphonectria hypovirus 1 (CHV-1) has been widely studied and used as a biocontrol agent because of its ability to infect the chestnut blight fungus, Cryphonectria parasitica, and to reduce its virulence. Knowledge about the hypovirus, its presence, and diversity is completely lacking in South Tyrol (northern Italy), which may obstruct biocontrol measures for chestnut blight based on CHV-1. This work aimed to study the occurrence of CHV-1 infecting C. parasitica in South Tyrol and to perform a genetic characterization of the hypovirus. In South Tyrol, CHV-1 was found to occur in 29.2% of the fungal isolates investigated, varying in frequency between different regions and chestnut stands. Twenty-three haplotypes based on partial cDNA (complementary DNA) sequences of open reading frame (ORF)-A and 30 haplotypes based on partial cDNA sequences of ORF-B were identified among 47 and 56 hypovirulent fungal isolates, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all the haplotypes belonged to the Italian subtype of CHV-1 and that they were closely related to the populations of Italy, Switzerland, Croatia and Slovenia. Evidence of recombination was not found in the sequences and point mutations were the main source of diversity. Overall, this study indicated that the prevalence of CHV-1 in South Tyrol is low compared to many other central and western European populations and determined a need to actively impose biocontrol measures. Using sequence analysis, we identified some variants of interest of CHV-1 that should be studied in detail for their potential use in biocontrol.

Dear Editor, We have read the letter to the editor by Atiq et al., with interest. They have correctly highlighted that osteoporosis is a silent killer and majority of the patients are diagnosed only when they already have a fragility fracture.1 The authors have highlighted important measures to improve awareness of osteoporosis among general population and doctors like arranging seminars, establishment of hotlines and formation of a national committee. They have mentioned the lack of local guidelines for management of post-menopausal osteoporosis. We would like to update the readers that clinical practice guidelines regarding osteoporosis with 50 recommendations considering the local Pakistani context have recently been published.2 The authors adopted the “clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis—2020 update from American Association of Clinical Endocrinology” to adapt to the local context by using GRADE-ADOLOPMENT process.2

Machine Learning (ML)'s growing role in process industries during the digitalization era is notable. This study combines Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Aspen Plus to predict exergy efficiency, exergy destruction, and potential improvements in a cumene plant under uncertain process conditions. An optimization framework, using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA), was developed to enhance exergy efficiency amid uncertainty. Initially, a steady-state Aspen model evaluates exergy efficiency, irreversibility, and potential improvements. The proposed model is transitioned to a dynamic mode, introducing artificial uncertainties into key variables. An ANN model predicts exergy efficiency and exergy destruction under uncertainty. The PSO and GA-based optimization methods improve exergy efficiency and reduce exergy destruction. This work demonstrates the potential real-time application of intelligent methods in plant analysis.

This article is an overview of the current state of nanoparticles because of their emerging usage in cancer treatment, covering nanoparticles that have been authorized for use in cancer therapy currently undergoing clinical testing. Recent advances in nanoparticle engineering, coupled with an enhanced understanding of critical nanoparticle attributes (size, shape, and surface properties) in conjunction with biological systems, present novel prospects for therapeutic nanoparticle development. Although inorganic and metallic nanoparticles are gaining recognition in clinical studies due to their potential usefulness but nanomaterials primarily polymeric, liposomal, and nano crystal based dominate the cancer therapy. Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) contain specific ligands, such as polyglycolic acid (PGA) and polylactic acid (PLA), which have a chemical affinity for malignant cells and target tumors. Nanocrystals stand out with their high loading efficiency, stability, extended drug release, and capacity to deliver poorly soluble medications. The limitations of conventional chemotherapy are overcome in a variety of applications for improved cancer care by metal-based nanoparticles, either used alone or in combination. The dynamic nature of nanotechnology drives continued developments like protein-based nanoparticles and micelles. Polymer and lipid encapsulation within nanocrystals is becoming more and more popular, suggesting a long-term trend. This advancement marks a significant breakthrough in life-saving nanotechnology, particularly in cancer treatment, and sets the stage for pioneering applications in nanomedicine.

Background Caries risk (CR) assessment tools are used to properly identify individuals with caries risk and to improve preventive procedures and programs. A tool such as CAMBRA determines the precise protective factors of caries and identifies an individual’s specific therapeutic intervention. The purpose of this study was to assess the caries risk using the CAMBRA protocol among the general population of Pakistan. Methods This multicentre analytical study was conducted in ten dental hospitals in different provinces of Pakistan and the caries risk assessment was carried out using a questionnaire that was designed using the Caries Management by Risk Assessment (CAMBRA) protocol. All 521 participants were intra-orally examined to assess oral hygiene status and the presence of disease. Multiple logistic regression test was performed for analysis. Results A higher number of participants (61.2%) were found to be in the moderate risk category of caries risk assessment. The males are 51% less likely to have caries compared to the females (AOR = 0.49, P = 0.081). The majority of participants (71.3%) had one or more disease indicators, with white spots and visible cavities. Those with visible, heavy plaque were 13.9 times more likely to have caries compared to those without (AOR = 13.92, P < 0.001). Those using calcium and phosphate during the last 6 months were 90% less likely to have caries compared to those not using them (AOR = 0.10, P < 0.001). There was no significant interaction between all eight risk factors retained in the final model (P > 0.05), the Hosmer and Lemeshow Test P < 0.001, classification accuracy = 87.1%, and AUC = 91.2%. Conclusion The caries risk among the general population of Pakistan is moderate, with significant variation among age groups, education levels, and socioeconomic status.

Healthcare is delivered in a very complicated environment where numerous variables affect the patient related outcomes. A multidisciplinary team that places a high priority on patient satisfaction and healthcare quality can help to simplify and manage the environment of complex healthcare delivery. The foundation of rehabilitation treatments is a multidisciplinary team approach to provide interventions and care for the patients. Regardless of the population studied, multidisciplinary rehabilitation has been shown to be more effective than therapy delivered by individual therapists in a number of different populations. Due to the patient’s complex impairments, a team-based approach is necessary for assessments and facilitates coordinated care planning in the rehabilitation settings. The aim of this paper is to offer a narrative review of the advantages and challenges of multidisciplinary team working. ObjectiveThis study utilizes recent nationally representative data to contextualize the standard maternal continuum of care (SMCoC) in Pakistan. The revised SMCoC framework encompasses at least eight antenatal care visits, skilled birth attendants during delivery, and postnatal care within 48 h of childbirth.MethodsThe study used a sample of 3,887 ever-married women aged 15–49 from the latest Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) conducted in 2017–18. Several statistical methods were employed: descriptive statistics, bivariate, multilevel logistic regression models, and Fairlie decomposition analysis.ResultsOnly 12% of women had accessed full SMCoC services in Pakistan. Education and the wealth quintile emerged as pivotal factors influencing the utilization of SMCoC. The likelihood of full SMCC utilization was more likely among higher educated women (OR: 3.37; 95% CI: 2.16–5.25) and those belonging to the wealthiest household wealth quintile (OR: 4.95; 95% CI: 2.33–5.51). Media exposure, autonomy, healthcare accessibility, residence, and region were also identified as significant predictors of SMCoC utilization among women.ConclusionIn conclusion, while most women did not utilize full SMCoC services in Pakistan, the pattern is substantially varied by background characteristics. Education, wealth quintile, mass media exposure, and autonomy were significant factors, along with geographical aspects such as healthcare accessibility and region. The study underscores the need for a multifaceted approach to ensure equitable access to full SMCoC services for women in Pakistan, addressing individual, socioeconomic, and geographical factors.

This work uses the Marichev-Saigo-Maeda (MSM) fractional integral operator to achieve certain special fractional integral inequalities for synchronous functions. Compared to the previously mentioned classical inequalities, the inequalities reported in this study are more widespread. We also looked at several unique instances of these inequalities involving the fractional operators of the Saigo, Erdelyi, and Kober, and Riemann-Liouville types.

Abstract In this letter, a compact, planar circularly polarized (CP) sub-GHz slot-based multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with dual sense CP along with polarization bandwidth reconfigurability is presented. The pentagonal reactively loaded slot is fed by two folded tapered feedlines to achieve CP. The antenna offers left-hand-circular polarization (RHCP) with the as well as right hand circular polarization (LHCP). The antenna exhibit linearly polarization (LP) by exciting two ports simultaneously. Moreover, the antenna CP resonance can be reconfigured by varying the capacitance of the varactor diode. The antenna has a wide −10 dB operating frequency band from 578–929 MHz. while the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth ranges from 490–810 MHz. Moreover, the two elements MIMO are optimized and placed on compact dimensions 100 × 100 × 0.76 mm3 to realize pattern diversity. The antenna’s key characteristics are compact size, wide-band sub-GHz operation, dual sense CP, polarization bandwidth reconfigurability and good MIMO performance. Thus, it is a suitable candidate to be utilized in CubeSats applications in sub-GHz bands.

Background: The occurrence of emergence agitation (EA) is the most common and practical problem faced in the immediate post-operative period during the process of Extubation under General Anaesthesia. Dexmedetomidine, an α2 adrenoceptor agonist is an excellent drug that has been shown effective to decrease the preoperative anxiety and smooth induction and emergence. Aims and Objectives: To assess the effect of intravenous dexmedetomidine primarily on EA and other complications that may occur during emergence from general anesthesia. Materials and Methods: 80 patients of either gender aged 18–65 years with ASA status I and II, undergoing various elective general and urological surgeries under general anesthesia were included in the study. Patients receiving adjuvant drug dexmedetomidine, were labelled as Group D (n=40) and those who didn’t receive any adjuvant were labelled as group C (n=40). Dexmedetomidine was given at 1 μg/kg and then maintained at infusion of 0.4 μg/kg/h till the end of the surgery for group D. The hemodynamic parameters and SpO2 were measured during the intraoperative period at various intervals of time till the end of surgery and also on arrival to the recovery room till patient was discharged from post-anesthesia care unit in both the groups. Results: The use of IV dexmedetomidine has proved significantly effective in prevention of incidence of EA with the overall incidence of agitation of 7.5% in Group D as compared to 42.5% in group C. Conclusion: Intraoperative administration of intravenous dexmedetomidine decreased the incidence of EA and other emergence phenomena like cough, pain and PONV with stable hemodynamics, safety profile, good analgesic properties and opioids sparing side effects.
