1. Buckwheat containing-bread: a scientific inquiry into insulin, polyphenols, antioxidants status, and oxidative stress markers in type-II diabetic individuals

Abstract

Buckwheat grains contain bioactive components with known effects on cardio-metabolic biomarkers. Previous research on oxidative stress markers made exclusively from wheat flour or two-hour postprandial levels of antioxidant status, plasma total polyphenols, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) were considerably higher than fasting values after consuming buckwheat-incorporated bread (BWB), including clinical, animal, and epidemiological studies, suggesting the potential of buckwheat intake to influence parameters such as polyphenol intake, antioxidant status, insulin levels, and oxidative stress markers. However, the specific impact of buckwheat-containing bread on these biomarkers in individuals with type-II diabetes remains a significant gap in our understanding. Our current work aims to address this gap by exploring the effects of buckwheat-containing bread on insulin levels, polyphenol intake, antioxidant status, and markers of oxidative stress. In a randomized crossover study, 16 individuals with type-II diabetes were assigned to consume control bread made exclusively from wheat flour or bread incorporating 50% buckwheat flour. The research followed a crossover design, with a period of one to two washout interventions. Test breads were given at breakfast following a 12 h fast the previous night. After 2 h of bread intake, blood samples were collected at baseline (fasting). The two-hour postprandial levels of antioxidant status, plasma total polyphenols, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) were significantly higher than fasting values after consuming buckwheat-incorporated bread (BWB). This suggests that the buckwheat-containing bread improved plasma total polyphenol levels and total antioxidant status. Our research concludes that the intake of bread containing buckwheat positively influences polyphenols in plasma and the status of antioxidants. This suggests that incorporating buckwheat into bread may have favorable effects on biomarkers associated with cardio-metabolic health in individuals with type-II diabetes. By addressing these knowledge gaps, our research aims to inform and engage the scientific community in further exploration of the potential health benefits of buckwheat-containing bread.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to detect the concentration of some gaseous and particulate air pollutants in the indoor air of the city of Kufa. The pollutants include (CO, CO2, SO2, NO2, PM10, PM2.5). The concentrations of these pollutants were measured during the period from July 2022 to January 2023 at seventeen stations in the city of Kufa. From each station, three sites (houses) were selected, making (51 dwellings). The study showed the role of some climate elements, such as temperature and humidity, as well as the role of the size of the house and the type of building, as well as the role of house uses such as cleaning and cooking materials in influencing the increase in the concentration of air pollutants. The results showed that there was a variation in the levels of concentrations of air pollutants, and their variation between the months of July and January.

Abstract

The regulation of apoptosis (the programmed cell death) is dependent on the crucial involvement of BCL2 and BAX. The Bax-248G>A and Bcl-2-938 C>A polymorphic variations in the promoter sequences of the Bax and Bcl-2 gene have been recently associated with low Bax expression, progression to advanced stages, treatment resistance, and shortened overall survival rate in some hematological malignancies, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and other myeloproliferative neoplasms. Chronic inflammation has been linked to various stages of carcinogenesis wherein pro-inflammatory cytokines play diverse roles in influencing cancer microenvironment leading to cell invasion and cancer progression. Cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-8 have been implicated in cancer growth in both solid and hematological malignancies with studies showing their elevated levels in patients. Genomic approaches have in recent years provided significant knowledge with the regard to the association of certain SNPs (single nucleotide polymerphisms) either in a gene or its promoter that can influence its expression, with the risk and susceptibility to human diseases including cancer. This study has investigated the consequences of promoter SNPs in apoptosis genes Bax-248G>A (rs4645878)/Bcl-2-938C>A (rs2279115) and pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α rs1800629 G>A/IL-8 rs4073 T>A on the risk and susceptibility towards hematological cancers. The study design has 235 individuals both male and female enrolled as subjects that had 113 cases of MPDs (myeloproliferative disorders) and 122 healthy individuals as controls. The genotyping studies were conducted through ARMS PCR (amplification-refractory mutation system PCR). The Bcl-2-938 C>A polymorphism showed up in 22% of patients in the study, while it was observed in only 10% of normal controls. This difference in genotype and allele frequency between the two groups was significant (p = 0.025). Similarly, the Bax-248G>A polymorphism was detected in 6.48% of the patients and 4.54% of the normal controls, with a significant difference in genotype and allele frequency between the groups (p = 0.048). The results suggest that the Bcl-2-938 C>A variant is linked to an elevated risk of MPDs in the codominant, dominant, and recessive inheritance models. Moreover, the study indicated allele A as risk allele which can significantly increase the risk of MPDs unlike the C allele. In case of Bax gene covariants, these were associated with an increased risk of MPDs in the codominant inheritance model and dominant inheritance model. It was found that the allele A significantly enhanced the risk of MPDs unlike the G allele. The frequencies of IL-8 rs4073 T>A in patients was found to be TT (16.39%), AT (36.88%) and AA (46.72%), compared to controls who were more likely to have frequencies of TT (39.34%), AT (37.70%) and AA (22.95%) as such, respectively. There was a notable overrepresentation of the AA genotype and GG homozygotes among patients compared to controls in TNF-α polymorphic variants, with 6.55% of patients having the AA genotype and 84% of patients being GG homozygotes, compared to 1.63% and 69%, respectively in controls. The data from the current study provide partial but important evidence that polymorphisms in apoptotic genes Bcl-2-938C>A and Bax-248G>A and pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-8 rs4073 T>A and TNF-α G>A may help predict the clinical outcomes of patients and determine the significance of such polymorphic variations in the risk of myeloproliferative diseases and their role as prognostic markers in disease management using a case-control study approach.

Abstract

Objectives: The goal of the current research was to compare the failure rate of dental implants in medically compromised patients to healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: In this seven years retrospective study, 50 patients from Group A who were medically compromised had 63 implants, while 50 patients from Group B who were healthy had 67 implants. Over 1 mm of bone loss around the implant in the first year and over 0.2 mm of bone loss per year after that were considered failure rates. Result: Two (2.9%) of the dental implants in Group B and 18 (28.6%) in Group A, both failed. The average bone loss around the implant in Group A during the first year was 1.21 mm, compared to 0.3 mm in Group B. Conclusion: Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus group had greater implant failure.

Abstract

Objectives: Aloe vera and tulsi were compared in this study to see how well they treated oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). Materials and Method: The study involved thirty healthy volunteers aged from 20 to 55 without any systemic complications. The patients were given medications that needed to be applied two to three times daily. For four months, patients were followed up with monthly follow-up visits. The differences in the mouth opening and changes to the burning sensation on the visual analog scale (VAS) were statistically analyzed. Results: Both the burning sensation and mouth opening showed a statistically significant improvement. Conclusion: Tulsi and aloe vera provide a secure and effective method for treating OSMF symptoms.

Abstract

Objective: This investigation aimed to increase the bioavailability and anticancer effects of allicin (AC) by encapsulating it in solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) decorated with chitosan (CS)-conjugated folic acid (FA). Material and Methods: Nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by high-pressure homogenization, and then, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), and zeta potential methods were used to determine their physicochemical characteristics. 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was performed to assess the effect of toxicity and flow cytometry, while fluorescent staining methods were used to investigate the type of cell death. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to evaluate the expression levels of apoptotic genes: Bcl-2, and caspase-8. Results: The presence of AC-SLN-CS-FA with a spherical morphology, an average size of 86.7 ± 9.4 nm, uniform distribution (0.31), a surface charge of +21.3 ± 13.3 mV, an encapsulation percentage of 86.3%, and a folate binding rate of 63% confirmed the success of the preparation method. Suppression of MCF-7 cancer cells and non-toxicity of AC-SLN-CS-FA on Human foreskin fibroblast (HFF) normal cells were confirmed by cytotoxic assay. The results of flow cytometry revealed that the cells were arrested in the sub-G1 phase, and the activation of the intrinsic apoptosis pathway was confirmed by the results of real-time qPCR. Conclusions: In general, AC-SLN-CS-FA has the potential to prevent free radicals and trigger apoptosis in cancer cells by activating the intrinsic apoptosis pathway; thus, making it a promising subject in preclinical research.

Abstract

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is an important cause of death worldwide. CAD is caused by genetic and other factors including hypertension, hyperlipidemia, obesity, stress, unhealthy diet, physical inactively, smoking and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). The genome wide association studies (GWASs) have revealed the association of many loci with risk to diseases such as cancers, T2D and CAD. Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent vasodilator and is required for normal vascular health. It is produced in the endothelial cells in a reaction catalyzed by the endothelial NO synthase (eNOS). Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a very important enzyme involved in metabolism of folate and homocysteine, and its reduced function leads to cardiovascular disease. The Krüppel-like factor-14 (KLF-14) is an important transcriptional regulator that has been implicated in metabolic syndrome. MicroRNA (MiRNAs) are short non-coding RNAs that regulate the gene expression of proteins involved in important physiological processes including cell cycle and metabolism. In the present study, we have investigated the potential impact of germline pathogenic variants of endothelial eNOS, KLF-14, MTHFR, MiRNA-27a and their association with risk to CAD in the Saudi population. Methods: Amplification Refractory Mutation System (ARMS) PCR was used to detect MTHFR, KLF-14, miRNA-27a and eNOS3 genotyping in CAD patients and healthy controls. About 125 CAD cases and 125 controls were enrolled in this study and statistical associations were calculated including p-value, risk ratio (RR), and odds ratio (OD). Results: There were statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) in genotype distributions of MTHFR 677 C>T, KLF-14 rs972283 G>A, miRNAs27a rs895819 A>G and eNOS3 rs1799983 G>T between CAD patients and controls. In addition, our results indicated that the MTHFR-TT genotype was associated with increased CAD susceptibility with an OR 2.75 (95%) and p < 0.049, and the KLF14-AA genotype was also associated with increased CAD susceptibility with an OR of 2.24 (95%) and p < 0.024. Moreover, the miRNAs27a-GG genotype protects from CAD risk with an OR = 0.31 (0.016), p = 0.016. Our results also indicated that eNOS3 -GT genotype is associated with CAD susceptibility with an OR = 2.65, and p < 0.0003. Conclusion: The MTHFR 677C>T, KLF14 rs972283 G>A, miRNAs27a A>G, and eNOS3 rs1799983 G>T genotypes were associated with CAD susceptibility (p < 0.05). These findings require verification in future large-scale population based studies before these loci are used for the prediction and identification of individuals at risk to CAD. Weight control, physical activity, and smoking cessation are very influential recommendations given by clinicians to the at risk individuals to reduce or delay the development of CAD.

Abstract

Globally, people are highly affected by Cadmium (Cd), the most hazardous heavy metal. It has been implicated in various pathogeneses. Oxidative stress may be one the main reasons for Cd-induced disorders in the body. This article investigates the protective ability of Catharanthus roseus (CR) extract on oxidative stress in the kidney and liver of rats exposed to Cd. After 21 days, a significant increase in MDA concentration (6.81 ± 0.05), (6.64 ± 0.03) was observed in Cd-treated groups compared to the control (5.54 ± 0.02), (5.39 ± 0.04) for the kidney and liver, respectively, while significant changes were observed in the haematological parameters. Antioxidant enzymes, GPx, CAT, and SOD showed a significant decrease in their activity. We established that increasing the concentration of Cd in the presence of H2O2 was able to cause stand scission in pBR322 plasmid DNA, which may be due to the mediation of ROS generated in the process. The antioxidant ability of CR extract was tested in DPPH and H2O2 scavenging assay, depicted by the increase in the percentage inhibition. Upon treatment of CR extract to rats, MDA concentration was decreased for the kidney and liver compared to the Cd-treated groups. This was again confirmed by comet assay of both tissues, where the degree of cellular DNA breakage caused by Cd toxicity decreased significantly upon treatment with CR extract. Overall, the results suggest that Cd plays a major role as an effector metal ion, causing a decrease in the concentration and activity of AO enzymes and enhanced lipid peroxidation. ROS production resulted in oxidative DNA damage within the cell, whereas CR extract showed potential antioxidant activity against ROS-mediated DNA damage induced by Cd poisoning.

Abstract

This study was carried out to examine the concentrations of major heavy metals in fifteen different well water in Zakho City, Kurdistan Region, Iraq. The studied heavy metals were iron, copper, chromium, aluminum, cadmium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, zinc and lead. The results obtained in the studied area showed that copper, chromium, cobalt, zinc, manganese, aluminum, iron and lead were within the acceptable limits as recommended by WHO for water drinking. However, in all studied areas, cadmium and nickel were mostly founded to exceed the maximum permissible limit set by WHO. It is found that zinc and copper possess a very good positive correlation between each other. The results obtained in this study confirmed the groundwater pollution and hence it is not suitable for consumption without any prior treatment.

24. Pharmacogenetics of CYP2C19*17: Functional and Clinical Implications of CYP2C19*17 - rs12248560 (c.-806C>T) in the Development of Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is increasing worldwide including Saudi Arabia. DM increases mortality rate, morbidity and vascular complications, accompanied by poor general health status and low quality of life. CYP2C19*17 polymorphism in CYP2C19 gene is associated with the clinical outcome of drugs that are substrates of CYP2C19. CYP2C19*17 confers reduced susceptibility to certain illnesses. This research was conducted to develop a robust method to genotype the rs12248560 single nucleotide variation (SNV). We enrolled 206 subjects: 100 subjects were clinically confirmed cases of type 2 diabetes (T2D), and 106 subjects were healthy controls in this study. Samples from all subjects were screened for the CYP2C19 rs12248560 (c.-806C>T) by the amplification-refractory mutation system PCR (ARMS-PCR). The frequencies of CYP2C19*17 TT, CT, CC genotypes in T2D cases were 12%, 21%, and 67%, respectively whereas those in healthy controls were 70.75%, 26.41%, and 2.83%, respectively. The difference was significant (p < 0.035). T allele (fT) prevalence was found to be substantially greater in T2D cases compared to healthy controls (0.22 vs. 0.16). Results indicated that the CYP2C19*17 - TT genotype is associated with increased susceptibility to T2D with OR = 4.47, RR = 2.64, (p < 0.024). Moreover, the ARMS-based assay proved to be an easy method for the determination of CYP2C19*17 genotypes with reduced cost and good accuracy. In addition, this result helps in the detection and stratification of the individuals who are at risk for the development of T2D. Nevertheless, this finding needs to be validated in molecular genetic studies with increased specimen size and in different ethnicities.

Abstract

Sulfur content in crude oil and petroleum products is a major problem, as the high content of sulfur in fuel leads to harmful emissions and leads to serious environmental and health risks as a result of emissions from sources that use gasoline as fuel for cars or kerosene as fuel for household heaters, causing serious emissions harmful to health. It is necessary to determine the sulfur content in crude oil, and to determine the type of crude oil (acid or sweet). comparing gasoline and kerosene sulphur content to international regulations to determine the extent to which oil refineries comply with internationally permitted limits and the extent to which sulphur content is linked to API Gravity sampling of several oil fields and refineries at varying intervals and distributed to nine provinces (Muthanna, Diwaniyah, Dhi Qar), Basra-Shuaiba, Maysan, Wasit, Baghdad-Dora refinery, Baiji refinery,The huss. It was concluded that Iraqi crude oil is sour, and laboratory tests showed that all refineries do not adhere to the limits allowed globally and domestically in terms of gasoline and kiros production, and the results showed a strong relationship between sulfur content and API Gravity.

Abstract

Estimating the concentration of sulphur compounds in crude oil and its products such as gasoline and kerosene is necessary because of environmental legislation and determinants developed by government organizations regulating sulphur levels in oil and its derivatives. Sulphur compounds found in crude oil and its products are a major problem, causing many environmental and health risks as a result of the use of gasoline as fuel for cars and kerosene as fuel for household heaters, resulting in the emission of these compounds in the form of oxides, affecting the environment and health. This study was conducted to estimate the concentration of sulphur compounds in crude oil and distillation products represented by gasoline and kerosene and to show how different the concentration of sulphur compounds in crude oil is than in gasoline and kerosene. In this study, gas chromatography technology was used. This method applies to distillation products, gasoline fuel, kerosene and other petroleum liquids. This study was conducted in basra oil company's quality control laboratories to estimate the concentration of sulphur compounds in crude oil, gasoline and kerosene.

Abstract

Increment in food-borne diseases had become a major concern globally, mostly in the health and socioeconomic sectors. This work was done to appraise the microbiological status of some commonly consumed fresh fruits and vegetables, to ascertain their microbiological load and their impact on the human health. Microbial quality of seven ready to eat (fresh) fruits and nuts (water melon, pineapple, avocado pear, banana, skinned and packaged groundnut, cucumber and pawpaw) were investigated according to standard procedures. Six bacteria species, namely: Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, Bacillus and Shigella, were isolated from each sample, by using standard procedures. Findings from the laboratory tests revealed that most of the fruits posed serious hazards and health risks to human beings. Salmonella was the most predominant bacteria in all the food samples, while Vibrio cholerae was the least predominant bacteria in all the food samples, being absent in most of the fruits samples. It was observed that skinned and packaged groundnut, water melon, cucumber and pawpaw were highly infested with pathogenic bacteria; compared to avocado pear, banana and pineapple. This portrayed that the health risks conditions resulting from ingesting packaged groundnut, water melon, cucumber and pawpaw were higher, compared to the risk of ingesting fresh avocado pear, banana and pineapple. Also the health risks assessment results revealed that children consumed higher dosages of microorganism, portraying that they are more susceptible to foodborne diseases. This research discovery had shown the necessity for better food safety surveillance structures, by the health and legal authorities to minimize the incidences of foodborne diseases and infant morbidity.

43. Fat Contents in Milk of Buffalo and Caw from Local Diary Fields at Basrah Province / Southern Iraq

Abstract

In this study the chemical compositions, fat, proteins, lactose, solid not fat, TSS, Salts, and moisture as well as physical properties, density and freezing point were determined in milk samples of cow's and buffalo's from Iraqi marshlands. Samples of milk were collected randomly from local diary markets. Analysis of samples were conducted by adopting the Lacto Plus milk analyzer in food industrial lab /College of Agriculture/ Basrah University. Average values recorded were higher in the milk of buffalo compared with cow's, but values for both cow's and buffalo's were lower than reported values worldwide. On boiling, milk is losing its fat and could be skimmed therefore they are suitable for making cream and cheese.

44. Determination of Certain Chemical Elements in Cheese as Dairy Product from Local Producer Southern Marshes of Iraq

Abstract

Locally produced cheese samples were investigated for the concentrations of certain major chemical elements, Ca, Na, and K as well as heavy metals; Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn. Samples of cheese were collected randomly from inhibitors at southern Iraqi marshland, Al-Hammar Marsh, first cut into small pieces, freeze dried, crushed and a certain amount was weighted and wet digested by 3:1 acid mixture of HNO3:HCl. After complete digestion , samples were poured in to 50 ml volumetric flask and volume completed to 50 ml by distilled water and divided into two 25 ml portions, one used for the determination of major elements, Ca, Na, and K by adopting Flame photometric technique, and the other portion used for the determination of heavy metals, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn by adopting the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. Levels recorded for Ca, Na, and K were in the order Na > Ca > K. Values recorded for Ca ranged between 27.24 – 46.67 mg/g, for Na ranged 42.21 – 69.34 mg/g being the highest, while K the lowest ranged 8.76 – 32.85 mg/g. On the other hand levels of heavy metals recorded were lower than major ions, the lowest for Pb ranged ND-2.6074 ?g/g and moderate for Cr, Cu, and Ni ranged ND -3.536 ?g/g, 1.20 - 6.68 ?g/g, and 0.61 - 2.245 ?g/g respectively, while Fe and Zn recorded the higher values ranged 18.93 - 64.76 ?g/g and 43.94 – 59.33 ?g/g respectively.

45. Seasonal Variations for Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the Tissues of Fishes from Shatt Al-Arab River and Southern Iraqi Marshes (2020)

Abstract

Petroleum hydrocarbons were investigated in the tissues of five fish species: (1) Carrasius auratus, (2) Coptodon zillis, (3) Oreochromis auratus, (4) Oreochromis niloticus, and (5) Tenualosa ilisha, caught at three stations : 1) El-Manthory within Al-Hammar marshland, and 2) Sinbad Island, and 3) Basrah station along Shatt Al-Arab River during the year 2020. Fishes were caught by net , kept in cool box on the board of fishing boat, then transferred to the labs of Marine Science Centre / Basrah University, cleaned and frozen at – 20oC prior to analysis. In the lab fishes were thawed and cut from their sides. Tissues were freeze dried by Edwards freeze drier type Modulyo, homogenized and 10 grams were weighted from each fish, petroleum hydrocarbons were extracted in hot soxhelet by using 40 ml n- hexane solvent for 4 hours . Extracts were reduced to 10 ml each by rotary evaporator. Finally concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in each sample were estimated spectrofluorometricaly by UV spectrofluorometry type Shimadzu RF-530IPC at excitation wavelength 310 nm and emission wavelength 360 nm. Higher levels were recorded during winter and spring in fishes caught at Shatt Al-Arab River, Stations 2 and 3, while lower levels were recorded in Tenualosa ilisha caught at all stations during spring, increased during summer, then autumn and winter . levels recorded in ?g/g dry weight were in the trend ND < 2.15 < 5.33 ? 4.51 respectively at Sinbad Island site No. 2, ND < 3.09 < 9.18 < 11.64 respectively at Basrah site No 3, and ND < 1.14 < 6.73 < 8.46 respectively at Manthory site No. 1. These levels were comparable to levels reported in fishes studies at nearby areas.

46. NORM in the Surface Sediments of Iraqi International Marine Waters

Abstract

Most radioactivity studies focus on the activity concentration of 232Th and 238U which are associated with heavy minerals, as well as 40K which associated with clay minerals. Within this study samples of surface sediments were collected from three sites 5, 7, and 11 along Khor Abdullah within Iraqi National Waters in order to document activity concentrations of radionuclides, 226Ra, 232Th, 238U, and 40K. Core sediments were investigated as well for determination of TOC. For studied radionuclides, levels recorded were 3.22 ± 0.59 – 37.6 ± 9.9 Bq/kg for 226Ra, 0.1 ± 0.1 – 6 ± 1.6 Bq/kg for 232Th, 1.02 ± 0.2-- 2.7 ±1.2 Bq/kg for 238U, and 124.09 ± 10 – 548.36 ± 44 Bq/kg for 40K. which are comparable to word wide levels. For TOC values recorded in bottom surface sediments from the three sites were 0.919% in site No. 2 to 1.904 % in site No. 1 Which were higher than levels reported in the same sites earlier averaged as 0.53 % . Radium equivalent activity was calculated for the sediments of Khor Abdullah and recorded as 51 Bq/kg which is quite low compared to the world wide level of 350 Bq/kg.

48. Environmentally Friendly Synthesis, Antibacterial Activity, and Photocatalytic Performance of AG Nanoparticles Made from Leucaena Leucocephala Leaves Extract

Abstract

The leaf extract of the plant Leucaena leucocephala was used in this research to synthesize environmentally-friendly nanotechnologies. This environmentally friendly procedure is completely safe and non-toxic. The approach is cost-effective, simple to use, and effective, and the attributes of the resultant compounds can be regulated. For example, the Ag compound can be controlled using the same plant extract and reaction. The findings and properties of these nanoparticles were investigated using a variety of techniques, including field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). EDX-mapping was also used to explore the analysis of Ag NPs. Electron microscopy investigations with transmission electron microscopes (TEM). which indicated the presence of Ag in the compound and their effective degradation. The produced chemical was tested for effectiveness using bacteria. The antibacterial activity of Ag NPs was investigated utilizing two different species of bacteria, Gram-negative E. Coli and Gram-positive S.aureus e.In addition, the photocatalytic capacity of Ag NPs was discovered through the photodegradation of dyes, as the rhodamine B dye was decomposed at a 78% percent rate. The effect of the catalyst amount and amounts (0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8,1, 1.2,1.4,1.6g/L) were investigated, with the best weight being 1gm and the dye concentration being 10ppm. Water and oxygen are converted to.OH radical with very powerful oxidation by receivers for electrons as well as those electrons and free holes. 49. Biosynthesis, Antibacterial Activity, The Photocatalytic Performance of ZNO NPS by use of Leaf Extract of the Plant Primo Fiore

Abstract

The leaf extract of the plant Primo Fiore was used in this study to synthesize environmentally-friendly nanotechnologies. This eco-friendly method is non-toxic and does not hurt the environment. The approach is cost-effective, simple to use, and extremely efficient, with the ability to adjust the properties of the resultant compounds. For example, the ZnO compound can be controlled using the same plant extract and reaction. The impact of calcination temperature on the physical properties of ZnO NPs has been studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy were used to determine the structural and chemical composition of ZnO NPs (EDX). Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy were used to examine the morphological features of produced nanoparticles (TEM). The existence of functional groups was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), according to the FESEM pictures. Most of the nanoparticles are on the nanoscale. This study demonstrated the efficacy of zinc oxide in the treatment of wastewater pollution for the degradation of colors in organic contaminants in the water medium, destroying the dye rhodamine B and its antibacterial properties. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) have been demonstrated to have a good antibacterial capability against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in this study, to investigate the antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles. 50. Measuring The Concentrations Of Some Gaseous And Particulate Air Pollutants In The Indoor Environment Of Homes / Iraq, A Case Study).

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to detect the concentration of some gaseous and particulate air pollutants in the indoor air of the city of Kufa. The pollutants include (CO, CO2, SO2, NO2, PM10, PM2.5). The concentrations of these pollutants were measured from July 2022 to January 2023 at seventeen stations in the city of Kufa. Three sites (houses) were selected from each station, making (51 dwellings). The study showed the role of some climate elements, such as temperature and humidity, as well as the function of the size of the house and the type of building, as well as the role of the house uses, such as cleaning and cooking materials, in influencing the increase in the concentration of air pollutants. The results showed that there was a variation in the levels of concentrations of air pollutants and their variation between July and January. The results showed that the highest concentration of CO2 gas (“934.6PPM) was at site S2 in station 17 during July, and the lowest concentration (419PPM) was at site S2 in station 15. As for CO gas, the highest concentration was (259.6PPM) at site S2 in station 12, and the lowest was (4PPM) at site S1, in station 14. As for NO2 gas, it reached the highest concentration in Station (1) site S3, with a concentration of (0.12PPM) and the lowest concentration (0.06PPM) in Station 13 is at Site S1. As for SO2 gas, the highest concentration was recorded during the summer at Station 5, Site S2, with a concentration of (PPM 0.09). As for suspended particles, the study's results indicated that the rates of PM2.5 and PM10 increased in July, while they decreased in January. The highest percentage of indoor particles of both types was recorded at station 13 in site S1, and this is due to the different types of household activities that take place inside homes.
