Search

Strongly correlated electrons systems may exhibit a variety of interesting phenomena, for instance, superconductivity and pseudogap, as is the case of cuprates and pnictides. In strongly correlated electron systems, it is considered essential to understand, not only the nature of the pseudogap, but also the relationship between superconductivity and the pseudogap. In order to address this question, in the present work, we investigated a one-band Hubbard model treated by the Green's function method within an n-pole approximation. In the strongly correlated regime, antiferromagnetic correlations give rise to nearly flat band regions in the nodal points of the quasiparticle bands. As a consequence, a pseudogap emerges at the antinodal points of the Fermi surface. The obtained results indicate that the same antiferromagnetic correlations responsible for a pseudogap, can also favor superconductivity, providing an increase in the superconducting critical temperature Tc., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures

A model of two coupled complex scalar fields is studied at finite temperature and under an external magnetic field. The results are obtained in the context of the nonperturbative method of the optimized perturbation theory and contrasted with those obtained in perturbation theory and in the one-loop approximation. We investigate the phase transition from hadron to quark matter in the general case without the assumption of chemical equilibrium. The effects of net strangeness on charge and isospin fractions, chemical potentials, and temperature are studied in the context of the Chiral Mean Field (CMF) model that incorporates chiral symmetry restoration and deconfinement. The extent to which these quantities are probed during deconfinement in conditions expected to exist in protoneutron stars, binary neutron-star mergers, and heavy-ion collisions is analyzed via the construction of 3-dimensional phase diagrams.

Sirius is a Synchrotron Light Source Facility based on a 4th generation low emittance storage ring. The facility is presently in the final assembly phase in Campinas, Brazil, and comprises a 3 GeV electron storage ring, a full energy Booster and a 150 MeV Linac. The Booster RF system is based on a single 5-cell RF cavity driven by a 45 kW amplifier at 500 MHz and is designed to operate at 2 Hz repetition rate. The storage ring will initially use one normal conducting 7-cell RF cavity and, in the final configuration, will comprise two superconducting cavities, each one driven by a 240 kW RF amplifier. A digital LLRF system based on ALBA DLLRF has been designed and commissioned to control both normal conducting and future superconducting RF configurations. The first DLLRF system is already in operation in the injector Booster. This paper presents an overview of the performance of the control loops in high power operation and the results of the Booster DLLRF commissioning. In this work, we expand on a previously reported realistic calculation of the magnetic field profile for the equation of state inside strongly magnetized neutron stars. In addition to showing that magnetic fields increase quadratically with increasing baryon chemical potential of magnetized matter (instead of exponentially, as previously assumed), we show here that the magnetic field increase with baryon number density is more complex and harder to model. The Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with two flavors, three colors and diquark interactions is analyzed in the context of optimized perturbation theory (OPT). Corrections to the thermodynamical potential that go beyond the large-$N_c$ (LN) approximation are taken into account, and the region of the phase diagram corresponding to intermediate chemical potentials and very low temperatures is explored. The simultaneous presence of both the quark-antiquark and diquark condensates can cause the system to behave as a fluid composed of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) or a color superconductor one, in the form of a Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superfluid. The BEC-BCS crossover is then studied in the nonperturbative OPT scheme. The results obtained in the context of the OPT method are then contrasted with those obtained in the LN approximation. We show that there are values for the coupling constants related to quark-quark and quark-antiquark interactions where the corrections beyond LN brought by the OPT method can influence the behavior of the diquark condensate and the effective quark mass as a function of the baryon chemical potential. These changes in the behavior of the phase structure of the model modify the location of the critical point related to the phase structure as a whole of the model. Also, when we impose the color neutrality condition, our results show that the nature of the phase transition can change as well, shifting the ratio of the quark-antiquark and quark-quark interactions to higher values in the OPT case as compared to the LN approximation., Comment: 24 pages, 15 figures. In this Letter, we report a realistic calculation of the magnetic field profile for the equation of state inside strongly magnetized neutron stars. Unlike previous estimates, which are widely used in the literature, we find that magnetic fields increase relatively slowly with increasing baryon chemical potential (or baryon density) of magnetized matter. More precisely, the increase is polynomial instead of exponential, as previously assumed. Through the analysis of several different realistic models for the microscopic description of stellar matter (including hadronic, hybrid and quark models) combined with general relativistic solutions endowed with a poloidal magnetic field obtained by solving Einstein-Maxwell's field equations in a self-consistent way, we generate a phenomenological fit for the magnetic field distribution in the stellar polar direction to be used as input in microscopic calculations.

We show how a scheme of rewriting a divergent momentum integral can conciliate results obtained with the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model and recent lattice results for the chiral transition in the presence of a chiral imbalance in quark matter. Purely vacuum contributions are separated from medium-dependent regularized momentum integrals in such a way that one is left with ultraviolet divergent momentum integrals that depend on vacuum quantities only. The scheme is applicable to other commonly used effective models to study quark matter with a chiral imbalance, it allows us to identify the source of their difficulties in reproducing the qualitative features of lattice results, and enhances their predictability and uses in other applications., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. v2 PRD version

We address the reliability of the Optimized Perturbation Theory (OPT) in the context of the 0-dimensional $O(N)$ scalar field model. The effective potential, the self-energy and the 1PI four-point Green's function for the model are computed using different optimization schemes and the results contrasted to the exact results for the model. Our results are also compared to those obtained with the $1/N$-expansion and with those from ordinary perturbation theory. The OPT results are shown to be stable even at large couplings and to have better convergence properties than the ones produced in the $1/N$-expansion. The phenomenon of inverse magnetic catalysis of chiral symmetry in QCD predicted by lattice simulations can be reproduced within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model if the coupling~$G$ of the model decreases with the strength $B$ of the magnetic field and temperature~$T$. The thermo-magnetic dependence of $G(B,T)$ is obtained by fitting recent lattice QCD predictions for the chiral transition order parameter. Different thermodynamic quantities of magnetized quark matter evaluated with $G(B, T)$ are compared with the ones obtained at constant coupling, $G$. The model with $G(B,T)$ predicts a more dramatic chiral transition as the field intensity increases. In addition, the pressure and magnetization always increase with $B$ for a given temperature. Being parametrized by four magnetic field dependent coefficients and having a rather simple exponential thermal dependence our accurate ansatz for the coupling constant can be easily implemented to improve typical model applications to magnetized quark matter., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, v3 EPJA version

We study the effects of induced interactions on the pairing gap, transition temperature and chemical potential of a quasi-two dimensional Fermi gas of atoms with spin-orbit coupling. We find that these mean-field parameters are significantly modified when induced interactions are taken into account. We also investigate the implications of induced interactions corrections for the BCS-BEC crossover driven by spin-orbit coupling, that happens even for small (compared to the Fermi energy) values of the binding energy., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures

The BEC-BCS crossover for a NJL model with diquark interactions is studied in the presence of an external magnetic field. Particular attention is paid to different regularization schemes used in the literature. A thorough comparison of results is performed for the case of a cold and magnetized two-color NJL model. According to our results, the critical chemical potential for the BEC transition exhibits a clear inverse magnetic catalysis effect for magnetic fields in the range $ 1 \lesssim eB/m_\pi^2 \lesssim 20 $. As for the BEC-BCS crossover, the corresponding critical chemical potential is very weakly sensitive to magnetic fields up to $eB \sim 9\ m_\pi^2$, showing a much smaller inverse magnetic catalysis as compared to the BEC transition, and displays a strong magnetic catalysis from this point on., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures; v2 PRD version

Although asymptotic freedom is an essential feature of QCD, it is absent in effective chiral quark models like the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio and linear sigma models. In this work we advocate that asymptotic freedom plays a key role in the recently observed discrepancies between results of lattice QCD simulations and quark models regarding the behavior of the pseudocritical temperature $T_{\rm pc}$ for chiral symmetry restoration in the presence of a magnetic field $B$. We show that the lattice predictions that $T_{\rm pc}$ decreases with $B$ can be reproduced within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model if the coupling constant $G$ of the model decreases with $B$ and the temperature. Without aiming at numerical precision, we support our claim by considering a simple ansatz for $G$ that mimics the asymptotic freedom behavior of the QCD coupling constant $1/\alpha_s \sim \ln (eB/\Lambda^2_{QCD})$ for large values of $B$., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. We investigate the superfluid transition temperature of quasi-two-dimensional imbalanced Fermi gases beyond the mean-field approximation, through the second-order (or induced) interaction effects. For a balanced Fermi system the transition temperature is suppressed by a factor $\approx 2.72$. In this work, we adopt the simplest model that spontaneously breaks supersymmetry, namely, the minimal O'Raifeartaigh model. The effective potential is computed in the framework of the linear delta expansion (LDE) approach up to the order $\delta^2$, conjugated with superspace and supergraph techniques. The latter can be duly mastered even if supersymmetry is no longer exact and the efficacy of the superfield approach in connection with the LDE procedure is confirmed according to our investigation. We study the zero temperature ground state of a two-dimensional atomic Fermi gas with chemical potential and population imbalance in the mean-field approximation. All calculations are performed in terms of the two-body binding energy $\epsilon_B$, whose variation allows to investigate the evolution from the BEC to the BCS regimes. By means of analytical and exact expressions we show that, similarly to what is found in three dimensions, at fixed chemical potentials, BCS is the ground state until the critical imbalance $h_c$ after which there is a first-order phase transition to the normal state. We find that $h_c$, the Chandrasekhar-Clogston limit of superfluidity, has the same value as in three dimensional systems. We show that for a fixed ratio $\epsilon_B/\epsilon_F$, where $\epsilon_F$ is the two-dimensional Fermi energy, as the density imbalance $m$ is increased from zero, the ground state evolves from BCS to phase separation to the normal state. At the critical imbalance $m_c$ phase separation is not supported and the normal phase is energetically preferable. The BCS-BEC crossover is discussed in balanced and imbalanced configurations. Possible pictures of what may be found experimentally in these systems are also shown. Symmetry restoration in a theory of a self-interacting charged scalar field at finite temperature and in the presence of an external magnetic field is examined. The effective potential is evaluated nonperturbatively in the context of the optimized perturbation theory method. The reliability and precision of numerically solving stochastic non-Markovian equations by standard numerical codes, more specifically, with the fourth-order Runge-Kutta routine for solving differential equations, is gauged by comparing the results obtained from analytical solutions for the equations. We analyze the developing of bipartite and multipartite entanglement through the Mott-Insulator - Superfluid quantum phase transition. Starting from a Mott insulator state, where a filling factor $\nu = N/M = 1$ per lattice site is considered, we derive an exact expression for a completely connected graph configuration of bosons and show how bipartite and multipartite entanglement signals the phase transition predicted in previous works. The thermodynamics of a scalar field with a quartic interaction is studied within the linear delta expansion (LDE) method. Using the imaginary-time formalism the free energy is evaluated up to second order in the LDE. The method generates nonperturbative results that are then used to obtain thermodynamic quantities like the pressure. The phase transition pattern of the model is fully studied, from the broken to the symmetry restored phase. The results are compared with those obtained with other nonperturbative methods and also with ordinary perturbation theory. The results coming from the two main optimization procedures used in conjunction with the LDE method, the Principle of Minimal Sensitivity (PMS) and the Fastest Apparent Convergence (FAC) are also compared with each other and studied in which cases they are applicable or not. The nonequilibrium effective equation of motion for a scalar background field in a thermal bath is studied numerically. In the Brazilian synchrotron light source, we observed that modulating the phase of the accelerating fields at approximately twice the synchrotron frequency suppressed remarkably well a longitudinal coupled-bunch mode of the beam driven by a higher order mode (HOM) in one of the radiofrequency (RF) cavities. In this work, we present the results of a set of systematic measurements, in single and multibunch mode, aimed at characterizing the effects of RF phase modulation on the beam. We compare those experiments with the results of tracking simulations and of a theoretical model in which Landau damping is the stabilizing mechanism that explains the suppression of the longitudinal coupled bunch instability. We also measure the frequency of the stable islands created in longitudinal phase space by phase modulation and the longitudinal beam transfer function (BTF) as a function of the modulation frequency and amplitude. Traditional cutoff regularization schemes of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model limit the applicability of the model to energy-momentum scales much below the value of the regularizing cutoff. In particular, the model cannot be used to study quark matter with Fermi momenta larger than the cutoff. In the present work an extension of the model to high temperatures and densities recently proposed by Casalbuoni, Gatto, Nardulli, and Ruggieri is used in connection with an implicit regularization scheme. This is done by making use of scaling relations of the divergent one-loop integrals that relate these integrals at different energy-momentum scales. Fixing the pion decay constant at the chiral symmetry breaking scale in the vacuum, the scaling relations predict a running coupling constant that decreases as the regularization scale increases, implementing in a schematic way the property of asymptotic freedom of quantum chromodynamics. If the regularization scale is allowed to increase with density and temperature, the coupling will decrease with density and temperature, extending in this way the applicability of the model to high densities and temperatures. These results are obtained without specifying an explicit regularization. We implement a cutoff-independent regularization of four-fermion interactions to calculate the color-superconducting gap parameter in quark matter. The traditional cutoff regularization has difficulties for chemical potentials \mu of the order of the cutoff \Lambda, predicting in particular a vanishing gap at \mu \sim \Lambda. Recently there have been suggestions that for a proper description of hadronic matter and hadronic correlation functions within the NJL model at finite density/temperature the parameters of the model should be taken density/temperature dependent. Here we show that qualitatively similar results can be obtained using a cutoff-independent regularization of the NJL model.
