Abstract

The following manual provides a review of considerations and steps required for the design, construction and operation of constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment in rural applications (i.e. livestock operations, food processing, septic waste treatment, etc.). The information provided herein is to be used by practitioners (i.e. professionals with a working knowledge of geotechnical engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology and wastewater treatment) to provide them with enough detailed information to determine if this application is applicable to their needs and if so, to help them develop, implement and operate a constructed wetland treatment system. The guidelines outlined herein provide a standard system approach for a simple low cost, low maintenance solution. The constructed wetlands discussed in this manual are therefore limited to simple systems such as those found in nature, and do not consider more complex designs such as sub-surface systems and complex mechanical devices. The design examples used in this manual are therefore based on the simpler loading rates methods. This manual can be used by technical staff in provincial agencies, consulting firms, construction companies as well as potential operators and owners of constructed wetland systems. Abstract

This report describes the third year of operation of the Dignard Constructed Wetlands near Embrun in Eastern Ontario. The introduction and the chapter about wetland system design are a synthesis of sections of two previous reports, Proposed Natural System, Dignard Farm - Embrun, Ontario (Weil et al., 1994) and Dignard Artificial Wetland 1995 Year End Report (Weil et al., 1996). The chapter about system performance contains a synthesis of the results obtained during the first two years of operation (Weil et al., 1997). These chapters have been included as background material for readers not familiar with the three previous reports. Readers are referred to these publications for further details on design, construction and results.

Quatre thèmes sont couverts dans le présent article : le recrutement, la sélection, l’évaluation du rendement et la rémunération. La première partie de l’article examine les défis qui se présentent actuellement dans ces quatre domaines. La deuxième partie expose la méthodologie retenue pour réaliser la recherche. Les quatre parties suivantes se penchent sur les méthodes et les stratégies de recrutement, de sélection, d’évaluation du rendement et de rémunération qu’on observe dans les entreprises de haute technologie selon leur taille. The next four sections examine the different methods and strategies of recruitment, selection, performance evaluation and companies observed in hi-tech companies according to size. En la primera parte del artículo se examinan los desafíos que se presentan actualmente en estas cuatro áreas. En la segunda parte se expone la metodología elegida para realizar la investigación. En las cuatro partes siguientes se estudian los métodos y las estrategias de contratación, selección, evaluación del rendimiento y remuneración que se observan en las empresas de alta tecnología según su tamaño. Después de esta presentación se presenta un debate y algunas recomendaciones.
