Abstract Background Few studies have examined the otologic symptoms of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The objective of this study was to identify the effect of COVID-19 on the characteristics and outcomes of patients who have otitis media with effusion (OME). Methods This case-control study compared the characteristics and outcomes of OME patients who did or did not have COVID-19. A total of 65 patients with previous COVID-19 and 40 patients who did not have COVID-19 (controls) were enrolled from October 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023 at a single institution in China. Demographics, medical histories, morbidities, hearing test results, treatments, and outcomes of the two groups were compared. Results The COVID-19 group had significantly better outcomes from OME than the control group, with higher rates of complete resolution (64.6% vs. 30%) and improvement (30.8% vs. 17.5%), and a lower rate of persistent OME (4.6% vs. 52.5%). Previous COVID-19 was independently associated with a more favorable OME outcome in three multivariate logistic regression models. The COVID-19 group also had a greater improvement in hearing threshold based on air-bone gap measurements. Conclusion The outcomes of OME patients who had previous COVID-19 were generally good, in that most patients responded well to treatment and achieved complete resolution or improvement within one month.

Abstract Background Recent studies have uncovered that the microbiota in patients with head and neck cancers is significantly altered and may drive cancer development. However, there is limited data to explore the unique microbiota of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), and little is known regarding whether the oral microbiota can be utilized as an early diagnostic biomarker. Methods Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing, we characterized the microbiome of oral rinse and tissue samples from 77 patients with LSCC and 76 control patients with vocal polyps, and then performed bioinformatic analyses to identify taxonomic groups associated with clinicopathologic features. Results Multiple bacterial genera exhibited significant differences in relative abundance when stratifying by histologic and tissue type. By exploiting the distinct microbial abundance and identifying the tumor-associated microbiota taxa between patients of LSCC and vocal polyps, we developed a predictive classifier by using rinse microbiota as key features for the diagnosis of LSCC with 85.7% accuracy. Conclusion This is the first evidence of taxonomical features based on the oral rinse microbiome that could diagnose LSCC. Our results revealed the oral rinse microbiome is an understudied source of clinical variation and represents a potential non-evasive biomarker of LSCC.

COVID-19 has brought unprecedented impacts on global logistics and left supply chain management on the verge of collapse, which highlights the research importance of supply chain resilience (SCRE). To provide more insights into SCRE in the pandemic context, this paper uses information processing theory (IPT) as a theoretical lens and attempt to explore how SCRE can be achieved through information processing ‘fit’, that is, the fit between information processing capability and its information processing capability. We conducted a single-case analysis by choosing Zong-Teng Group, one of the biggest cross-border e-commerce enterprises in China, as our sample. Data were mainly collected from interviews with Zong-Teng’s managers and open online resources. Through this single-case analysis, this paper identifies supply chain collaborative innovation as a new mechanism between information processing ‘fit’ and SCRE. Specifically, a firm’s information processing ‘fit’ can lead to three modes of innovative collaborations (i.e., technology, management and market innovation), which further improves SCRE. Abstract Organic single crystals with low defect density are key functional materials for next‐generation electronics. Classical crystallization commonly results in a high density of molecular steps, which are defects that can trap charge carriers and reduce the mobility of organic semiconductors. Herein, a novel nonclassical crystallization mechanism involving nucleation, fusion, and growth is designed. The introduction of the fusion stage changes the crystal growth mode from three‐dimensional island growth to two‐dimensional layer‐by‐layer growth and leads to large‐area two‐dimensional molecular crystals with almost no molecular steps. Therefore, the average mobility is observed to improve from 1.26 to 2.07 cm2 V−1 s−1. The nonclassical crystallization mechanism paves the way for atomically flat single crystals to probe the intrinsic optoelectronic properties of organic semiconductors.

Abstract Memristors proposed by Leon Chua provide a new type of memory device for novel neuromorphic computing applications. However, the approaching of distinct multi‐intermediate states for tunable switching dynamics, the controlling of conducting filaments (CFs) toward high device repeatability and reproducibility, and the ability for large‐scale preparation devices, remain full of challenges. Here, we show that vertical‐organic‐nanocrystal‐arrays (VONAs) could make a way toward the challenges. The perfect one‐dimensional structure of the VONAs could confine the CFs accurately with fine‐tune resistance states in a broad range of 103 ratios. The availability of large‐area VONAs makes the fabrication of large‐area crossbar memristor arrays facilely, and the analog switching characteristic of the memristors is to effectively imitate different kinds of synaptic plasticity, indicating their great potential in future applications.

Bilayer p-n heterojunctions are promising structures to construct ambipolar organic field-effect transistors (aOFETs) for organic integrated circuits. However, due to the lack of effective strategies for high-quality p-n heterojunctions with clear interfaces, the performance of aOFETs is commonly and substantially lower than that of their unipolar counterparts, which hinders the development of aOFETs toward practical applications. Herein, a one-step solution crystallization strategy was proposed for the preparation of high-quality bilayer p-n heterojunctions. A mixed solution of a p- and an n-type organic semiconductor was dropped on a liquid substrate, and vertical phase separation occurred spontaneously during crystallization to produce bilayer p-n heterojunctions composed of molecularly thin two-dimensional molecular crystals. Due to the clear interface of the bilayer p-n heterojunctions, the maximum mobility (average mobility) reached 1.96 cm2 V−1 s−1 (1.12 cm2 V−1 s−1) for holes and 1.27 cm2 V−1 s−1 (0.61 cm2 V−1 s−1) for electrons in ambient air. So far as we know, these values were the highest among double-channel aOFETs measured in ambient air. This work provides a simple yet efficient strategy to construct high-quality bilayer p-n heterojunctions, which lays a foundation for their application in high-performance optoelectronic devices.

Organic ultraviolet (UV) phototransistors are promising for diverse applications. However, wide-bandgap organic semiconductors (OSCs) with intense UV absorption tend to exhibit large contact resistance (Rc) because of an energy-level mismatch with metal electrodes. Herein, we discovered that the molecular dopant of 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (F4TCNQ) was more efficient than the transition metal oxide dopant of MoO3 in doping a wide-bandgap OSC, although the former showed smaller electron affinity (EA). By efficient contact doping, a low Rc of 889 Ω·cm and a high mobility of 13.89 cm2V−1s−1 were achieved. As a result, UV-sensitive phototransistors showed high photosensitivity and responsivity.
