Background: The impact of diet on breast cancer survival remains inconclusive. We assessed associations of all-cause mortality with adherence to the four diet quality indices: Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015), Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI), Alternative Mediterranean Diet (aMED), and Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH). Methods: Dietary intake data were evaluated for 6,157 North American women enrolled in the Breast Cancer Family Registry who had been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer from 1993 to 2011 and were followed through 2018. Pre-diagnosis (n = 4,557) or post-diagnosis (n = 1,600) dietary intake was estimated through a food frequency questionnaire. During a median follow-up time of 11.3 years, 1,265 deaths occurred. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate multivariable-adjusted HR and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Women in the highest versus lowest quartile of adherence to the HEI-2015, AHEI, aMED, and DASH indices had a lower risk of all-cause mortality. HR (95% CI) were 0.88 (0.74–1.04; Ptrend = 0.12) for HEI-2015; 0.82 (0.69–0.97; Ptrend = 0.02) for AHEI; 0.73 (0.59–0.92; Ptrend = 0.02) for aMED; and 0.78 (0.65–0.94; Ptrend = 0.006) for DASH. In subgroup analyses, the associations with higher adherence to the four indices were similar for pre- or post-diagnosis dietary intake and were confined to women with a body mass index Conclusions: Higher adherence to the HEI-2015, AHEI, aMED, and DASH indices was associated with lower mortality among women with breast cancer. Impact: Adherence to a healthy diet may improve survival of women with breast cancer.

OBJECTIVE Produce prescriptions have shown promise in improving diabetes care, although most studies have used small samples or lacked controls. Our objective was to evaluate the impacts of a produce prescription program on glycemic control for patients with diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Participants included a nonrandom enrollment of 252 patients with diabetes who received a produce prescription and 534 similar control participants from two clinics in Hartford, Connecticut. The start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 coincided with program implementation. Produce prescription enrollees received vouchers ($60 per month) for 6 months to purchase produce at grocery retail. Controls received usual care. The primary outcome was change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) between treatment and control at 6 months. Secondary outcomes included 6-month changes in systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), BMI, hospitalizations, and emergency department admissions. Longitudinal generalized estimating equation models, weighted with propensity score overlap weights, assessed changes in outcomes over time. RESULTS At 6 months, there was no significant difference in change in HbA1c between treatment and control groups, with a difference of 0.13 percentage points (95% CI −0.05, 0.32). No significant difference was observed for change in SBP (3.85 mmHg; −0.12, 7.82), DBP (−0.82 mmHg; −2.42, 0.79), or BMI (−0.22 kg/m2; −1.83, 1.38). Incidence rate ratios for hospitalizations and emergency department visits were 0.54 (0.14, 1.95) and 0.53 (0.06, 4.72), respectively. CONCLUSIONS A 6-month produce prescription program for patients with diabetes, implemented during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, was not associated with improved glycemic control.

Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is identifiable by the excessive increase of mesenchyme paired with the loss of epithelium. Total flavonoids of Astragalus (TFA), the main biologically active ingredient of the traditional Chinese medicine, Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi), shows outstanding effects on treating pulmonary disorders, including COVID-19-associated pulmonary dysfunctions. This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of TFA on treating pulmonary fibrosis and the possible mechanisms behind these effects. A549 cells were treated with TGF-[Formula: see text]1 and TFA to observe the potential effects of TFA on regulating alveolar epithelial cell proliferation, TGF-[Formula: see text]1-induced EMT, and the underlying mechanisms in vitro. Then, mouse pulmonary fibrosis was induced with a single intra-tracheal injection of bleomycin, and TFA was administrated by i.p. injection. Lung fibrosis was evaluated through histological and molecular analyses, and the possible mechanisms were explored using immunological methods. The results demonstrated that TFA could promote cell proliferation but inhibit TGF-[Formula: see text]1-induced EMT on A549 cells. TFA attenuated BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice by modulating inflammatory infiltration and M2 macrophage polarization; it furthermore modulated EMT through regulating the TGF-[Formula: see text]1/Smad pathway. In addition, TFA augmented the expression of the Wnt7b protein, which plays an important role in alveolar epithelium reparation. In conclusion, TFA alleviated bleomycin-induced mouse lung fibrosis by preventing the fibrotic response and increasing epithelium regeneration.

Background Growing evidence indicates the adverse effect of ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption. However, it remains unknown whether UPF consumption influences the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) precursors, namely conventional adenomas and serrated lesions. Methods We drew data from the Nurses’ Health Study, Nurses’ Health Study II, and Health Professionals Follow-up Study, comprising 142 052 participants who had undergone at least 1 lower gastrointestinal endoscopy during follow-up. To handle multiple records per participants, we used multivariable logistic regression for clustered data to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of colorectal polyps in relation to cumulative average consumption of UPFs. All statistical tests were 2-sided. Results We documented 11 644 patients with conventional adenomas and 10 478 with serrated lesions during 18-20 years of follow-up. Compared with participants in the lowest quintile of UPF consumption, those in the highest quintile had an increased risk of conventional adenomas (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.11 to 1.26) and serrated lesions (OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.13 to 1.28). Similar results were found for high-risk polyps (ie, advanced adenomas and ≥10 mm serrated lesions; OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.07 to 1.28). These associations were slightly attenuated but remained statistically significant after further adjusting for body mass index, Western dietary pattern score, or individual dietary factors (fiber, folate, calcium, and vitamin D). The results remained essentially unchanged after excluding processed meat from total UPF intake. Conclusions Higher consumption of UPFs is associated with an increased risk of CRC precursors. UPFs might be a modifiable target for early prevention of CRC.

In recent years, with the rapid development of modern petroleum industry, some conventional oil country tubular goods (OCTGs) have been unable to meet the requirements of ultra-deep oil and gas drilling and production. Titanium alloy OCTGs showed broad application prospects due to its high specific strength, Low elastic modulus and strong CO2+H2S+Cl- corrosion resistance. However, large-scale applications of titanium alloy OCTGs were seldom reported, which is mainly attributed to the lack of anti-corrosive resistance and mechanical performance of titanium alloy OCTGs in the working conditions. In the present work, the research progress on properties and application of titanium alloy OCTGs were reviewed. The resistance to uniform corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pit and crevice corrosion, mechanical properties of the titanium alloy OCTGs in air and downhole corrosion media were comprehensively discussed. Application status and prospect of titanium alloy OCTGs in oil and gas exploration were also summarized.

Mitochondrial fragmentation contributes to the initiation of Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. Baicalin plays a significant role in rescuing mitochondrial dysfunction. However, the effect of baicalin treatment on the modulation of mitochondrial fragmentation has not yet been assessed.The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of baicalin on memory and understand its mechanism of action.Baicalin treatment significantly reversed the altered learning and memory behaviours in AD mouse model. We found that baicalin treatment significantly improved the levels of microtubule association protein-2 and enhanced the expression of synaptophysin and postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD95). Moreover, treatment with baicalin reversed amyloid-β oligomer (AβO)-induced abnormalities in the succinate dehydrogenase complex iron sulphur subunit B (SDHB) and cytochrome c oxidase components I (COXI) and mitochondrial fragmentation in the hippocampus. Background: The Indonesian government faces a dilemma of promoting fish consumption for its health benefits and to ease food insecurity, while at the same time seeking effective approaches to reduce the high levels of marine pollution. However, the factors associated with fish consumption in the face of persistent high levels of marine pollution are not well elucidated in the literature. Objectives: This was an explorative study to investigate the sociodemographic factors related to fish consumption and to understand the perspectives of expert informants on marine pollution and its impact on fish quality and availability in Indonesia. Methods: We characterized fish consumption among respondents aged 15 years and older in the fifth wave of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (n = 31,032), based on their sociodemographic profiles, and developed multinomial regression models to assess the relationship between respondents’ sociodemographic profiles and quintiles of fish consumption. We also conducted in-depth interviews on fish consumption and marine pollution with key informants from Indonesia (n = 27). We then used a convergent mixed-methods design to synthesize the results of both datasets. Results: Fish was the most frequently consumed animal-source food reported by survey respondents: 2.8 (±2.6) days/week. More younger respondents (15–19 years) reported relatively lower consumption of fish (9.3% in Q1 versus 5.9% in Q5) compared to respondents 50 years and older (37% in Q1 versus 39.9% in Q5; p < 0.01). When classified by region, more respondents from the Java region reported lower consumption of fish (86.5% in Q1 versus 53% in Q5; p < 0.01). Key-informants’ perspectives corroborated the survey results by indicating that the younger generation tends not to want to consume fish; informants expanded the survey results by suggesting that fish is scarce in the Java region due to high levels of marine pollution. Informants further implied that there is low awareness about the impact of marine pollution on fish quality among most of the Indonesian population. Conclusion: Evidence from both data sources converge on differential preference for fish consumption by age group. Informants’ perspectives also link marine pollution to fish scarcity, which poses a threat to food security among low-income Indonesians and to human health globally. More studies are needed to corroborate our findings and inform policy guidelines to reduce marine pollution while promoting fish consumption in Indonesia.

IntroductionResearch on the impacts of dietary patterns on human and planetary health is a rapidly growing field. A wide range of metrics, datasets, and analytical techniques has been used to explore the role of dietary choices/constraints in driving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, environmental degradation, health and disease outcomes, and the affordability of food baskets. Many argue that each domain is important, but few have tackled all simultaneously in analyzing diet-outcome relationships.MethodsThis paper reviews studies published between January 2015 and December 2021 (inclusive) that examined dietary patterns in relation to at least two of the following four thematic pillars: (i) planetary health, including, climate change, environmental quality, and natural resource impacts, (ii) human health and disease, (iii) economic outcomes, including diet cost/affordability, and (iv) social outcomes, e.g., wages, working conditions, and culturally relevant diets. We systematically screened 2,425 publications by title and abstract and included data from 42 eligible publications in this review.ResultsMost dietary patterns used were statistically estimated or simulated rather than observed. A rising number of studies consider the cost/affordability of dietary scenarios in relation to optimized environmental and health outcomes. However, only six publications incorporate social sustainability outcomes, which represents an under-explored dimension of food system concerns.DiscussionThis review suggests a need for (i) transparency and clarity in datasets used and analytical methods; (ii) explicit integration of indicators and metrics linking social and economic issues to the commonly assessed diet-climate-planetary ecology relationships; (iii) inclusion of data and researchers from low- and middle-income countries; (iv) inclusion of processed food products to reflect the reality of consumer choices globally; and (v) attention to the implications of findings for policymakers. Better understanding is urgently needed on dietary impacts on all relevant human and planetary domains simultaneously.

The Sanchakou Cu deposit is located in the eastern section of the Dananhu magmatic arc in the Eastern Tianshan orogenic belt, northwest China. Sanchakou is hosted by quartz diorite and granodiorite intrusions. Chalcopyrite and bornite are the dominant ore minerals and occur as disseminations, patches, veins, and veinlets. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) U-Pb dating of zircons shows that the ore-bearing intrusions were emplaced at ca. 435–432 Ma, recording the early subduction of the Paleo-Tianshan oceanic plate. The enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs), depletion in high field strength elements (HFSEs), and moderate Mg# values, together with mantle-like bulk Sr-Nd and zircon Hf-O isotope signatures (δ18O = 4.0–5.3‰), suggest that they were generated from partial melting of metasomatized mantle materials by subducted slab fluids. In situ S and whole-rock Pb isotope results imply that the Sanchakou diorite magmas provided ore-forming components (S and metals), with additional minor metals (e.g., Cu and Pb) sourced from crustal components beneath the Dananhu arc. The redox state of diorite magmas ranges from initial high fO2 (>FMQ + 2, where FMQ is the fayalite-magnetite-quartz buffer) to relatively low fO2 (7 wt %), normal S (8–393 ppm), and systematically low Cl (38–1,100 ppm) contents. A constant and favorable elevated magma oxidation state appears critical for generating an economic porphyry Cu deposit. Additionally, Cl melt concentrations may be a key factor that controlled metal fertility of the deposits in the Eastern Tianshan, although the mineralization potential may also relate to depth of emplacement of the hydrothermal system. The anomalous presence of stellerite with chalcopyrite in late-stage veins indicates that original porphyry-style mineralization at Sanchakou underwent deformation-related modification after its formation.

Objectives. To quantify disparities in health and economic burdens of cancer attributable to suboptimal diet among US adults. Methods. Using a probabilistic cohort state-transition model, we estimated the number of new cancer cases and cancer deaths, and economic costs of 15 diet-related cancers attributable to suboptimal intake of 7 dietary factors (a low intake of fruits, vegetables, dairy, and whole grains and a high intake of red and processed meats and sugar-sweetened beverages) among a closed cohort of US adults starting in 2017. Results. Suboptimal diet was estimated to contribute to 3.04 (95% uncertainty interval [UI] = 2.88, 3.20) million new cancer cases, 1.74 (95% UI = 1.65, 1.84) million cancer deaths, and $254 (95% UI = $242, $267) billion economic costs among US adults aged 20 years or older over a lifetime. Diet-attributable cancer burdens were higher among younger adults, men, non-Hispanic Blacks, and individuals with lower education and income attainments than other population subgroups. The largest disparities were for cancers attributable to high consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages and low consumption of whole grains. Conclusions. Suboptimal diet contributes to substantial disparities in health and economic burdens of cancer among young adults, men, racial/ethnic minorities, and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups. Backgrounds: Depression is among the most frequent psychiatric comorbid conditions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, pharmacotherapy for depressive disorders in AD is still a big challenge；current antidepressants used clinically, such as monoamine antidepressants, have shown only modest or little clinical benefits. Here we investigated the mechanism of the interactions between depression and AD, which we believe would aid in the development of pharmacological therapeutics for the comorbidity of depression and AD. Methods: Female APP/PS1/Tau triple transgenic (3×Tg-AD) mice at 20 months of age and age- and gender-matched wild-type (WT) mice were used. The shuttle-box passive avoidance test (PAT), the open field test (OFT), and the tail suspension test (TST) were implemented to assess behavioral changes. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was used to detect the level of neurotransmitters related to depression in the hippocampus of mice. The data was identified by orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). The expression of relative receptors was detected using Western blot. Results: Compared to WT, 3×Tg-AD mice displayed significant cognitive impairment in the PAT and depression-like behavior in the OFT and TST. They also showed significant decreases in the levels of L-tyrosine, norepinephrine, vanillylmandelic acid, 5-hydroxytryptamine, and acetylcholine, in contrast to significant increases in 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, L-histidine, L-glutamine, and L-arginine in the hippocampus. The expression of the alpha 1a adrenergic receptor (ADRA1A), serotonin 1A receptor (5HT1A), and γ-aminobutyric acid A receptor subunit alpha-2 (GABRA2) was significantly downregulated in the hippocampus of 3×Tg-AD mice, while histamine H3 receptor (H3R) expression was significantly upregulated. In addition, the ratio of phosphorylated cAMP-response element-binding protein (pCREB) and CREB was significantly decreased in the hippocampus relative to WT. Conclusions: We demonstrated in the present study that aged female 3×Tg-AD mice showed depression-like behavior accompanied with cognitive dysfunction. The complex and diverse mechanism appears not only relevant to the imbalance of multiple neurotransmitter pathways, including the transmitters and receptors of the monoaminergic, GABAergic, histaminergic, and cholinergic systems, but also related to the changes in L-arginine and CREB signaling molecules.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to (1) document currently available guidelines aimed at healthcare professionals and including some information on the nutritional management of cancer survivors in Europe; (2) assess the quality of these guidelines and (3) document the nutrition recommendations promoted. METHODS Four search strategies were implemented in 2018 and updated in 2021 to locate guidelines. Papers were included if they described a European guideline or recommendation for cancer survivors that contained nutrition guidance and there were no language restrictions. Two reviewers independently assessed guideline quality using the AGREE II instrument and nutrition content was extracted and summarised. RESULTS Five guidelines (of 593 documents located through the searches) met the inclusion criteria. The ESPEN guidelines were deemed to have the highest methodological quality. Limited information on nutrition was available in these guidelines with the majority of focus being on the promotion of fruit, vegetables and wholegrains and reducing fat, red meat and alcohol. Weight management was mentioned by all five guidelines. There was no detailed information available for cancer survivors or their healthcare team and no practical strategies for the implementation of recommendations. CONCLUSIONS There is a need for nutrition guidelines specific for cancer survivors in a European setting. Current guidelines are limited and focus on broad recommendations, while lacking in practical strategies for implementation. There is also a tendency to recommend cancer prevention guidelines be used for cancer survivors rather than developing specific guidance for this group.

Purpose: Suboptimal diet is a preventable cause of cancer. We aimed to estimate the economic burden of diet-associated cancer among US adults. Methods: We used a Comparative Risk Assessment model to quantify the number of new cancer cases attributable to seven dietary factors among US adults ages 20+ years. A Markov cohort model estimated the 5-year medical costs for 15 diet-associated cancers diagnosed in 2015. We obtained dietary intake from 2013-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, cancer incidence and survival from 2008-2014 Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program, and medical costs from 2007-2013 linked SEER-Medicare data. Results: The estimated 5-year medical costs of new diet-associated cancer cases diagnosed in 2015 were $7.44 (2018 US$). Colorectal cancer had the largest diet-related 5-year medical costs of $5.32B. Suboptimal consumption of whole grains ($2.76B), dairy ($1.82B) and high consumption of processed meats ($1.5B) accounted for the highest medical costs. Per-person medical costs attributable to suboptimal diet vary by gender, race and age group.Conclusions: Suboptimal diet contributes substantially to the economic burden of diet-associated cancers among US adults. This study highlights the need to implement population-based strategies to improve diet and reduce cancer burden in the US.

China is not only a main source area of Asian dust but also a significantly affected area of dust deposition in the world. However, the influence range of Asian dust deposition and its influence on soil provenance remains unclear, particularly in subtropical regions. This study identified the substantial effect of Asian dust on soils and quantified its contribution to subtropical soils of China. Three soil profiles derived from basalt in subtropical area (Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China) were selected and sampled. The pH, bulk density, and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of soils were determined. The Neodymium (Nd) and Thorium (Th) concentrations and Nd isotope of soils were determined. We used the Nd elemental and isotopic geochemistry to assess the deposition of Asian dust in soil profiles (up to 1 m depth). The upper soil layers have negative $${\varepsilon }_{Nd}(0)$$ values, which were close to those of Asian dust $${\varepsilon }_{Nd}\left(0\right)=-3.30)$$ , indicating the input of Asian dust to soils. Further, the high dust-derived Nd proportion in the soils $${(f}_{dust}^{Nd}=43\%)$$ also suggested a great contribution of Asian dust on soils. A comparison of Nd in the soils from subtropics (Zhejiang province, Southeast China) and tropics (Hainan province, China’s southernmost point) indicated that both regions were influenced by Asian dust but at different degrees. Asian dust has been identified as a vital source of Nd in subtropical soils of China. The high mass fraction of dust-derived Nd in the soil profiles indicated the important role of dust input in soil genesis. The results also suggest that Nd isotopes are powerful fingerprints in tracing the origin of soil materials.

BackgroundMaternal polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has potential detrimental effects on the neurodevelopment of offspring. This study aimed to evaluate the brain metrics in fetuses of women with PCOS based on fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).MethodsThis retrospective study included 60 pregnant women with PCOS (PCOS group) and 120 pregnant non-PCOS women (control group). Fetal MRI was performed followed an ultrasound and for numerous clinical indications including known or suspected fetal pathology, history of fetal abnormality in previous pregnancy or in a family member. Fetal brain biometry and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value were analysed.ResultsAfter adjusting for potential confounders, fetuses in the PCOS group showed the following characteristics compared to fetuses in the control group: (1) smaller cerebral fronto-occipital diameter (FOD), vermian height (VH) and anteroposterior diameter of the pons (APDP) (evident before 32 weeks;P = 0.042,P = 0.002 andP = 0.016, respectively); (2) larger left and right biparietal index (evident before 32 weeks;P = 0.048 andP = 0.025, respectively); (3) smaller left lateral ventricle (LV) (evident after 32 weeks;P = 0.005); (4) larger anteroposterior diameter of the vermis (APDV) and hippocampal infolding angle (HIA) (evident after 32 weeks;P = 0.003 andP P ConclusionsThere exist a different pattern of brain metrics in PCOS offspringin utero.

Objective To assess whether maternal ultra-processed food intake during peripregnancy and during the child rearing period is associated with offspring risk of overweight or obesity during childhood and adolescence. Design Population based prospective cohort study. Setting The Nurses’ Health Study II (NHSII) and the Growing Up Today Study (GUTS I and II) in the United States. Participants 19 958 mother-child (45% boys, aged 7-17 years at study enrollment) pairs with a median follow-up of 4 years (interquartile range 2-5 years) until age 18 or the onset of overweight or obesity, including a subsample of 2925 mother-child pairs with information on peripregnancy diet. Main outcome measures Multivariable adjusted, log binomial models with generalized estimating equations and an exchangeable correlation structure were used to account for correlations between siblings and to estimate the relative risk of offspring overweight or obesity defined by the International Obesity Task Force. Results 2471 (12.4%) offspring developed overweight or obesity in the full analytic cohort. After adjusting for established maternal risk factors and offspring’s ultra-processed food intake, physical activity, and sedentary time, maternal consumption of ultra-processed foods during the child rearing period was associated with overweight or obesity in offspring, with a 26% higher risk in the group with the highest maternal ultra-processed food consumption (group 5) versus the lowest consumption group (group 1; relative risk 1.26, 95% confidence interval 1.08 to 1.47, P for trendv group 1: relative risk 1.17, 95% confidence interval 0.89 to 1.53, P for trend=0.07). These associations were not modified by age, sex, birth weight, and gestational age of offspring or maternal body weight. Conclusions Maternal consumption of ultra-processed food during the child rearing period was associated with an increased risk of overweight or obesity in offspring, independent of maternal and offspring lifestyle risk factors. Further study is needed to confirm these findings and to understand the underlying biological mechanisms and environmental determinants. These data support the importance of refining dietary recommendations and the development of programs to improve nutrition for women of reproductive age to promote offspring health.

Compared with aluminum alloy and alloy steel, titanium alloy has higher specific strength, lower modulus of elasticity, and better toughness, fatigue performance and corrosion resistance. In terms of oil well tubing, the development of titanium alloy lags behind that of aluminum alloy and alloy steel. Aluminum alloy tubing is sensitive to pitting, fatigue corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. At the same time, it is not suitable for ultra-deep wells due to temperature limitations. Easily interact with corrosive media to cause corrosion and cracking. Titanium alloy oil well tubing is expected to solve this corrosion problem, but its corrosion resistance research is still incomplete. Therefore, it is necessary to develop titanium alloy oil well tubing with good corrosion resistance to improve corrosion fatigue (CF), fatigue during deep oil well and natural gas drilling operations. Catastrophic brittle fracture caused by hydrogen induced cracking (HIC), pitting corrosion and sulfide stress cracking (SSC). In this paper, by investigating a large number of domestic and foreign documents, the corrosion types of titanium alloy oil well pipes are analyzed, and the research status of corrosion resistance of titanium alloy oil well pipes is reviewed from three aspects: oil pipes, casings and drill pipes.

Laser cladding is an effective way to improve the surface hardness and wear resistance of titanium alloy. The powder materials and laser cladding process parameters have great influence on the properties of the wear resistant coating. In order to reduce the common defects including the cracks and pores of the coating, titanium alloy powder and self-melting alloy powder are selected to ensure the good adhesion between titanium alloy and wear resistant coating. In addition, the strengthening phase and self-lubricating phase were added to the laser cladding powder material to improve the micro hardness and reduce the friction coefficient, which bring in the improvement of the wear resistance of the coating. In the present work, the selection principle and application effect of powder materials for wear-resistant coatings are reviewed. the research status of the influence of laser technological parameters on coating properties is discussed. Meanwhile, the methods to reduce the defect of wear resistance coating by laser cladding are proposed.

Diet sustainability analyses inform policymaking decisions and provide clinicians and consumers with evidence-based information to make dietary changes. In the United States, the Food Commodity Intake Database (FCID) provides a crosswalk for integrating nationally representative data on food intake from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) with data on sustainability outcomes from other publicly available databases. However, FCID has not been updated since 2010 and does not link with contemporary NHANES data, which limits further advancements in sustainability research. This study fills this research gap by establishing novel linkages between FCID and NHANES 2011–2018, comparing daily per capita food intake with and without these linkages, and making these data publicly available for use by other researchers. To update FCID, two investigators independently established novel data linkages, a third investigator resolved discrepancies, and a fourth investigator audited linkages for accuracy. Dietary data were acquired from nearly 45,000 adults from 2001 to 2018, and food intake was compared between updated vs. non-updated FCID versions. Total food intake from 2011 to 2018 was 5–23% higher using the updated FCID compared to the non-updated version, and intake was over 100% higher in some years for some food categories including poultry, eggs, legumes, starchy vegetables, and tropical oils (P < 0.001 for all comparisons). Further efforts may be needed to create new food composition data to reflect new products and reformulations that enter the food supply over time. This study removes a barrier to further diet sustainability analyses by establishing a data crosswalk between contemporary NHANES and other publicly available databases on agricultural resource use, environmental impacts, and consumer food expenditures.

Whole-grain (WG) foods are defined by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), FDA, AHA, American Association of Cereal Chemists International (AACCI), and Whole Grains Council (WGC) in different ways with diverse focuses on grain components only, whole foods, or nutrient contents.We aimed to compare estimated WG food intake among US adults using different definitions.For each definition, we estimated the mean intake and trends of WG food consumption using survey-weighted 24-h dietary recalls from nationally representative samples of 39,755 US adults aged 20+ y from 8 cycles (2003-2018) of the NHANES. This is an observational study that used deidentified and publicly available datasets.The estimated mean consumption of WG foods (ounces equivalents/2000 kcal/d, oz. eq./d) varied by definition. In 2017-2018, the AHA (mean [SEM]: 1.05 [0.07] oz. eq./d) and WGC (0.95 [0.07]) definitions yielded the highest amounts, followed by the DGA (0.81 [0.06]), AACCI (0.73 [0.05]), and FDA (0.53 [0.04]). Using all definitions except for WGC, US adults increased WG food intake from 2003-2004 to 2017-2018 with the largest increase (61.5%) using the AHA (from 0.65 to 1.05 oz. eq./d), followed by DGA (0.50 to 0.81) and AACCI (0.51 to 0.73) definitions. For each definition, the main sources of WG foods consumed by US adults were ready-to-eat cereals, cooked grains and cereals, and breads (including rolls and tortillas). For all definitions except the AHA, non-Hispanic White adults and individuals with college degrees or above consumed higher levels of WG foods than non-Hispanic Blacks and those with lower levels of education.Different definitions affect the determination of WG foods, estimated intakes, and associated trends in WG food consumption among US adults. These findings call for a standardized definition of WG foods to guide consumers, industry, and policymakers in promoting WG intake in the US.Clinical Trial Registration: Not Applicable.

Growing evidence indicates the adverse effect of ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption. However, it remains unknown whether UPF consumption influences the risk of colorectal cancer precursors, namely conventional adenomas and serrated lesions.We drew data from the Nurses' Health Study (NHS), NHS II, and Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS), comprising 142,052 participants who had undergone at least one lower gastrointestinal endoscopy during follow-up. To handle multiple records per participants, we used multivariable logistic regression for clustered data to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of colorectal polyps in relation to cumulative average consumption of UPFs. All statistical tests were two-sided.We documented 11,644 cases with conventional adenomas and 10,478 with serrated lesions during 18-20 years of follow up. Compared to participants in the lowest quintile of UPF consumption, those in the highest quintile had an increased risk of conventional adenomas (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.11 to 1.26) and serrated lesions (OR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.13 to 1.28). Similar results were found for high-risk polyps (ie, advanced adenomas and ≥10 mm serrated lesions; OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.07 to 1.28). These associations were slightly attenuated but remained statistically significant after further adjusting for body mass index, Western dietary pattern score, or individual dietary factors (fiber, folate, calcium, and vitamin D). The results remained essentially unchanged after excluding processed meat from total UPF intake.Higher consumption of UPFs is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer precursors. UPFs might be a modifiable target for early prevention of colorectal cancer.

Background Nutrition transition towards a Western diet is happening in parallel with the rapidly increasing rates of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors in Kuwait. The cardiometabolic deaths attributable to poor diet have not been quantified among Kuwaiti adults. Methods Using a Comparative Risk Assessment model that incorporated dietary intake data from Kuwait’s first national nutrition survey, number of cardiometabolic deaths from the World Health Organization, and estimated associations of diet with cardiometabolic deaths from the Global Burden of Disease project, we estimated the number and proportion of cardiometabolic deaths attributable to suboptimal intake of 10 dietary factors among Kuwaiti adults ages 25+ years, and by population subgroups. Findings An estimated 1,308 (95% uncertainty interval [UI] = 1,228–1,485) cardiometabolic deaths were attributed to suboptimal diet, accounting for 64.7% (95% UI = 60.7%-73.4%) of all cardiometabolic deaths in Kuwait in 2009. The low intake of nuts/seeds was associated with the highest estimated number and proportion of cardiometabolic deaths (n = 380, 18.8%), followed by high intake of sodium (n = 256, 12.6%), low intake of fruits (n = 250, 12.4%), low intake of vegetables (n = 236, 11.7%), low intake of whole grains (n = 201, 9.9%), and high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages (n = 201, 9.9%). The estimated proportions of cardiometabolic deaths attributable to suboptimal diet were higher in men (67.7%) than women (57.8%) and in younger adults aged 25–34 years (84.5%) than older adults aged ≥55 years (55.6%). Conclusion Suboptimal dietary intake was associated with a very substantial proportion of cardiometabolic deaths among Kuwaiti adults in 2009, with young adults and men experiencing the largest proportion of diet-associated cardiometabolic deaths in Kuwait.

The long-term associations between the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and low-calorie sweetened beverages (LCSBs) with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remains inconsistent. To synthesize the evidence, we conducted a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies published up to 1 December, 2019 on the associations between SSB and LCSB intake and the risk of CVD incidence and mortality. Out of 5301 articles retrieved from our literature search, 11 articles evaluating the consumption of SSBs (16,915 incident CVD cases, 18,042 CVD deaths) and 8 articles evaluating the consumption of LCSBs (18,077 incident CVD cases, 14,114 CVD deaths) were included in the meta-analysis. A 1 serving/d increment of SSBs was associated with an 8% (RR: 1.08; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.14, I2 = 43.0%) and 8% (RR: 1.08; 95% CI: 1.04, 1.13, I2 = 40.6%) higher risk of CVD incidence and CVD mortality, respectively. A 1 serving/d increment of LCSBs was associated with a 7% (RR: 1.07; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.10, I2 = 0.0%) higher risk of CVD incidence. The association between LCSBs and CVD mortality appeared to be nonlinear (P = 0.003 for nonlinearity) with significant associations observed at high intake levels (>2 servings/d). Under an assumption of causality, the consumption of SSBs may be linked to 9.3% (95% CI: 6.6%, 11.9%) of predicted CVD incidence in the USA from 2015 to 2025, among men and nonpregnant women, who were aged 40–79 y in 2015–2016. The habitual consumption of SSBs was associated with a higher risk of CVD morbidity and mortality in a dose-response manner. LCSBs were also associated with a higher risk of these outcomes, however, the interpretation of these findings may be complicated by reverse causation and residual confounding., Habitual consumption of SSBs/LCSBs were associated with higher risk of CVD morbidity and mortality. However, potential reverse causation and residual confounding complicate interpretation of findings related to LCSBs.

Fibroblast activation protein (FAPα) is a tumor stromal antigen expressed by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in more than 90 % of malignant epithelial carcinomas. FAPα-based immunotherapy has been reported and showed that FAPα-specific immune response can remold immune microenvironment and contribute to tumor regression. Many FAPα-based vaccines have been investigated in preclinical trials, which can elicit strong and durable cytolytic T lymphocytes (CTL) with good safety. However, epitope-based FAPα vaccines are rarely reported. To break tolerance against self-antigens, analogue epitopes with modified peptides at the anchor residues are typically used to improve epitope immunogenicity. To investigate the feasibility of a FAPα epitope-based vaccine for cancer immunotherapy in vivo, we conducted a preclinical study to identify a homologous CTL epitope of human and mouse FAPα and obtained its analogue epitope in BALB/c mice, and explored the anti-tumor activity of their minigene vaccines in 4 T1 tumor-bearing mice. By using in silico epitope prediction tools and immunogenicity assays, immunodominant epitope FAP.291 (YYFSWLTWV) and its analogue epitope FAP.291I9 (YYFSWLTWI) were identified. The FAP.291-based epitope minigene vaccine successfully stimulated CTLs targeting CAFs and exhibited anti-tumor activity in a 4 T1 murine breast cancer model. Furthermore, although the analogue epitope FAP.291I9 enhanced FAP.291-specific immune responses, improvement of anti-tumor immunity effects was not observed. Check of immunosuppressive factors revealed that the high levels of IL-10, IL-13, myeloid-derived suppressor cells and iNOS induced by FAP.291I9 increased, which considered the main cause of the failure of the analogue epitope-based vaccine. Thus, we demonstrated for the first time that the FAP.291 minigene vaccine could induce mouse CTLs and also function as a tumor regression antigen, providing the basis for future studies of FAPα epitope-based vaccines. This study may also be valuable for further improvement of the immunogenicity of analogue epitope vaccines.

Poor diet increases cardiometabolic disease risk, yet the impact of food service guidelines on employee health and its cost effectiveness is poorly understood. Federal food service guidelines (FFSG) aim to provide United States (U.S.) government employees with healthier food options. Using microsimulation modeling, we estimated changes in the incidence of cardiometabolic disease, related mortality, and the cost effectiveness of implementing FFSG in nationally representative model populations of government and private company employees across 5 years and lifetime. We based estimates on changes in workplace intake of six FFSG dietary targets and showed lifetime reductions of heart attacks (- 107/million), strokes (- 30/million), diabetes (- 134/million), ischemic heart disease deaths (- 56/million), and stroke deaths (- 8/million). FFSG is cost saving overall, with total savings in discounted healthcare costs from $4,611,026 (5 years) to $539,809,707 (lifetime) $U.S. This study demonstrates that FFSG improves health outcomes and is cost saving.

Breast cancer diagnosis and treatment are important healthcare issues in the Industrialized World. In this study, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images are used to diagnose breast cancer (BC) and analyze the application effect of epidermal factor receptor-targeted therapy in the treatment of BC. A total of 858 patients diagnosed with BC in Jincheng People’s Hospital from 2019 to 2021 are included and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group is treated with epidermal growth factor receptor- (EGFR-) targeted therapy, and the control group is treated with conventional chemotherapy according to subsequent treatment modalities. Experimental results show that compared with manual segmentation, machine automatic segmentation includes the local and edge information of the image with higher accuracy, compared with benign and malignant tumors. There are significant differences in the changes of Tpeak, SSmax, El, E 2 , and E 5 , P < 0.05 , with SSmax and El having the greatest changes. After chemotherapy, the recorded maximum diameter of cancer foci in the control and the experimental groups are 26.4 ± 11.6 mm and 20.3 ± 13.5 mm, respectively, and the difference is statistically meaningful ( P < 0.05 ). The ADC value ( 12.74 ± 2.08 ) in the experimental group is higher than that ( 9.7 ± 1.88 ) in the control group ( P < 0.05 ). There is a significant difference in SSmax between the control group and experimental group ( P < 0.05 ), the SImax, pH values of the control group are significantly higher than those of the experimental group ( P < 0.05 ), and the SSmaxR value ( 7.82 ± 6.24 ) in the experimental group is lower than that in the control group ( 10.08 ± 6.25 ), but the difference is not significant, P > 0.05 . The proposed MRI method has high sensitivity and accuracy in the diagnosis of BC, improving the detection rate of lesions, compared with conventional chemotherapy. In addition, epidermal factor receptor-targeted therapy has a better therapeutic effect, with significant changes in cancer foci, which has the value of clinical promotion.

ObjectiveTo assess the impact of menu calorie labelling on reducing obesity-associated cancer burdens in the USA.DesignCost-effectiveness analysis using a Markov cohort state-transition model.SettingPolicy intervention.ParticipantsA modelled population of 235 million adults aged ≥20 years in 2015–2016.InterventionsThe impact of menu calorie labelling on reducing 13 obesity-associated cancers among US adults over a lifetime was evaluated for: (1) effects on consumer behaviours; and (2) additional effects on industry reformulation. The model integrated nationally representative demographics, calorie intake from restaurants, cancer statistics and estimates on associations of policy with calorie intake, dietary change with body mass index (BMI) change, BMI with cancer rates, and policy and healthcare costs from published literature.Main outcome measuresAverted new cancer cases and cancer deaths and net costs (in 2015 US$) among the total population and demographic subgroups were determined. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios from societal and healthcare perspectives were assessed and compared with the threshold of US$150 000 per quality-adjusted life year (QALY) gained. Probabilistic sensitivity analyses incorporated uncertainty in input parameters and generated 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs).ResultsConsidering consumer behaviour alone, this policy was associated with 28 000 (95% UI 16 300 to 39 100) new cancer cases and 16 700 (9610 to 23 600) cancer deaths averted, 111 000 (64 800 to 158 000) QALYs gained, and US$1480 (884 to 2080) million saved in cancer-related medical costs among US adults. The policy was associated with net cost savings of US$1460 (864 to 2060) million and US$1350 (486 to 2260) million from healthcare and societal perspectives, respectively. Additional industry reformulation would substantially increase policy impact. Greater health gains and cost savings were predicted among young adults, Hispanic and non-Hispanic Black individuals.ConclusionsStudy findings suggest that menu calorie labelling is associated with lower obesity-related cancer burdens and reduced healthcare costs. Policymakers may prioritise nutrition policies for cancer prevention in the USA.
