2. Above-ground biomass of Moso bamboo forests in China influenced by climate, soil and topography: A meta-analysis

Abstract

Moso bamboo is an essential forest resource in China, covering the largest area and stock of any bamboo species. Four provinces (Fujian, Hunan, Zhejiang, Jiangxi) each have more than 70 million hectares, collectively accounting for 80 % of the total area of Moso bamboo in China. We named these four provinces as the core area for Moso bamboo and the remaining area in other provinces as non-core area. There has been limited research on how climate, topography, and soil factors collectively affect Moso bamboo biomass in both the core and non-core areas. To better understand the variations, data on DBH and individual biomass were gathered from 348 plots from 25 literature sources and a total of 18 plots from four field surveys conducted in 2019. We found evidence that the above-ground biomass of Moso bamboo forests is influenced by a combination of climate, soil nutrients and topography, with different factors playing a more significant role in the core and non-core areas. Moso bamboo had higher individual above-ground biomass in the core area compared to the non-core area. In the core area, above-ground biomass of Moso bamboo was more influenced by climate than by soil nutrients. In this area, annual minimum temperature had a negative effect on above-ground biomass, while precipitation had a positive effect. In contrast, soil total nitrogen had the largest positive effect on above-ground biomass in non-core area. These findings may contribute to the development of a future biomass model for Moso bamboo forests.

8. Evaluation of Particulate Matter 2.5 Pollution Prevention and Control Effectiveness around Coal-fired Power Plants in Jiangsu Province, China based on Remote Sensing Data

Abstract

Based on the China High-resolution Air Pollution near-surface air pollutant remote sensing dataset, the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of PM2.5 and four chemical components around 6 coal-fired power plants in fine particulate matter pollution hotspots in Jiangsu Province, China from 2016 to 2020 were analyzed. Combined with the power plant installed capacity and the power generation data is studied from three perspectives: inter-annual characteristics, seasonal changes and trend analysis. The results show that the concentrations of PM2.5 and chemical components (Cl-, NH4+, SO42-, NO3-) around major coal-fired power plants in Jiangsu Province have dropped significantly, with an average annual reduction of 3.43, 0.12, 0.32, 0.54 and 0.54μg/m3 respectively.The seasonal variation characteristics of chemical components are obvious, the seasonal variation of NO3- is the most significant, and the proportion of SO42- reaches its peak in summer. Spatial heterogeneity is significant. Compared with the northern region, the proportion of NO3- in the three power plants in southern Jiangsu is 3 percentage points higher overall, and the concentrations of SO42- and NO3-have dropped even more. In addition, secondary inorganic aerosols (SIA) represented by NH4+, SO42-, and NO3- have become the main driving factors of PM2.5 pollution from coal-fired power plants in areas along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province, among which NO3- is the main cause of PM2.5 pollution around coal-fired power plants in Jiangsu Province. The most important secondary components highlight the importance of NH3 and NOX control for the future prevention and control of PM2.5 pollution from coal-fired power plants in Jiangsu Province, China.

Abstract

High mountains harbor a considerable proportion of biodiversity, but we know little about how diverse plants adapt to the harsh environment. Here we finished a high-quality genome assembly for Dasiphora fruticosa , an ecologically important plant distributed in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and lowland of the Northern Hemisphere, and resequenced 592 natural individuals to address how this horticulture plant adapts to highland. Demographic analysis revealed D. fruticosa underwent a bottleneck after Naynayxungla Glaciation. Selective sweep analysis of two pairs of lowland and highland populations identified 63 shared genes related to cell wall organization or biogenesis, cellular component organization, and dwarfism, suggesting parallel adaptation to highland habitats. Most importantly, we found that stronger purging of estimated genetic load due to inbreeding in highland populations apparently contributed to their adaptation to the highest mountain. Our results revealed how plants could tolerate the extreme plateau, which could provide potential insights for species conservation and crop breeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Clarifying the evolutionary processes underlying species diversification and adaptation is a key focus of evolutionary biology. Begonia (Begoniaceae) is one of the most species-rich angiosperm genera with c. 2000 species, most of which are shade-adapted. Here, we present chromosome-scale genome assemblies for four species of Begonia (B. loranthoides, B. masoniana, B. darthvaderiana and B. peltatifolia), and whole genome shotgun data for an additional 74 Begonia representatives to investigate lineage evolution and shade adaptation of the genus. The four genome assemblies range in size from 331.75 Mb (B. peltatifolia) to 799.83 Mb (B. masoniana), and harbor 22 059–23 444 protein-coding genes. Synteny analysis revealed a lineage-specific whole-genome duplication (WGD) that occurred just before the diversification of Begonia. Functional enrichment of gene families retained after WGD highlights the significance of modified carbohydrate metabolism and photosynthesis possibly linked to shade adaptation in the genus, which is further supported by expansions of gene families involved in light perception and harvesting. Phylogenomic reconstructions and genomics studies indicate that genomic introgression has also played a role in the evolution of Begonia. Overall, this study provides valuable genomic resources for Begonia and suggests potential drivers underlying the diversity and adaptive evolution of this mega-diverse clade.

Abstract

Parasitic plants have evolved to be subtly or severely dependent on host plants to complete their life cycle. To provide new insights into the biology of parasitic plants in general, we assembled genomes for members of the sandalwood order Santalales, including a stem hemiparasite (Scurrula) and two highly modified root holoparasites (Balanophora) that possess chimaeric host–parasite tubers. Comprehensive genome comparisons reveal that hemiparasitic Scurrulahas experienced a relatively minor degree of gene loss compared with autotrophic plants, consistent with its moderate degree of parasitism. Nonetheless, patterns of gene loss appear to be substantially divergent across distantly related lineages of hemiparasites. In contrast, Balanophorahas experienced substantial gene loss for the same sets of genes as an independently evolved holoparasite lineage, the endoparasitic Sapria(Malpighiales), and the two holoparasite lineages experienced convergent contraction of large gene families through loss of paralogues. This unprecedented convergence supports the idea that despite their extreme and strikingly divergent life histories and morphology, the evolution of these and other holoparasitic lineages can be shaped by highly predictable modes of genome reduction. We observe substantial evidence of relaxed selection in retained genes for both hemi- and holoparasitic species. Transcriptome data also document unusual and novel interactions between Balanophoraand host plants at the host–parasite tuber interface tissues, with evidence of mRNA exchange, substantial and active hormone exchange and immune responses in parasite and host.

秋海棠科（Begoniaceae）由夏威夷秋海棠属（Hillebrandia）和秋海棠属（Begonia）组成，前者仅1种，分布于夏威夷群岛（Hawaiian Islands；后者约1870种，为维管植物第5大属（丁友芳等，2017），广布于潮湿的热带和亚热带地区，其中非洲约160种、美洲约800种、亚洲约900种，中国约203种。依据子房胎座、果实类型等特征分为70个组（Moonlight et al., 2018）。 基于全基因组水平的比较分析，寻找基因组重复序列的动态变化的证据，验证一个假说：这些转座子的大量爆发所驱动的一个dynamic的基因组，可能能够在隔离的种群中产生足够的变异，以形成生殖隔离，导致物种分化。

Abstract

In order to solve similar objects interference and kidnap problem for robot self-localization, an innovation indoor robot self-localization system with fast vision content matching in global map (FCG-SLAM) is presented, and localization time consuming of this method is very less. FCG-SLAM is composed by ceiling feature points picking out algorithm and image content matching algorithm. The ceiling feature points picking out algorithm could pick out the feature points on the ceiling for extracting the overlap regions between robot vision image and keyframes in the global map. This method could also identify and delete these keyframes, which are less similar to present robot vision, for saving time consuming. The core of image content matching algorithm is sub-block matching and rebuilding method, which could take advantage of overlap regions to find out the most similar keyframe from global map for present robot vision image. Before matching, images compress is used to decrease time consuming. The experiment site includes three rooms and three corridors. Total 61 keyframes are taken to build global map. FCG-SLAM could finish each matching time less than 1.5s, and robot vision matching accurate is larger than 95%, position RMSE is less than 0.5m, and kidnap problem can also been eliminated.
