2. Antimicrobial resistance, virulence factors and phylogenetic profiles of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in the eastern coast of Shenzhen.

- Abstract
Vibrio parahaemolyticus ( V. parahaemolyticus ) is a major food-borne pathogen which causes human gastroenteritis. Since the characteristics of V. parahaemolyticus remain unknown, 220 isolates selected from clinical and environmental samples in Dapeng of Shenzhen were tested for the presence of two hemolysin-expressing genes tdh and trh . Among 27 clinical isolates, 26 carrired the tdh gene, and the other one carried both tdh and trh genes, however neither genes were detected in environmental isolates. Meanwhile, antimicrobial susceptibility profiles revealed the isolates with high frequency of resistance to ampicillin (77.73%) and colistin (71.82%) and medium to streptomycin (57.27%). Genetically, by whole genome sequencing (WGS), comparative genomics studies was performed on isolates from various districts and GenBank. Data analysis showed that antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) blaCARB , tet(34) and tet(35) were harbored in all genomes and other ARGs was absent in the genomes of 27 clinical isolates. Besides, little regional difference was observed. As for virulence factors, MAM7, T3SS1, T3SS1 secret effector, T3SS2, T3SS2 secret effector, and VpadF were carried by most isolates. Two isolates from other districts were tdh gene positive which clustered with clinical isolates from Dapeng in the same clade, indicating close genetic distance. This study revealed the widely distribution of V. parahaemolyticus in Shenzhen and the diverse ARGs and virulence genes it carried. 3. Abrolophus from Australasia, and the mysterious Mypongia (Trombidiformes: Parasitengona: Erythraeidae).

- Abstract
An undetermined species of Abrolophus Berlese was intercepted in quarantine by Australian biosecurity on kiwifruit imported from New Zealand. Here, we show that these are the Australian species Abrolophus ripicola (Womersley, 1934), a species known from the post-larval stages only. We present evidence that the larva of A. ripicola is probably the taxon Mypongia brevipes Southcott, 1961, which belongs to a monotypic genus with unique morphology that is placed in a different subfamily to Abrolophus. The larval and post-larval stages we examined share a similar morphology, most notably a reduction of the prodorsal shield and much reduced leg setation. Three M. brevipes larvae were intercepted on kiwifruit imported from New Zealand, and with an additional larval specimen from South Australia, these four specimens represent the first collections of this taxon since its description. Further circumstantial evidence supporting the conspecificity of the two taxa includes a female specimen of A. ripicola collected from Myponga, the type locality of M. brevipes, and larval stages of an undescribed Mypongia collected together with the post-larval stages of an undescribed Abrolophus, from the same locality in South Africa. Keys are provided for the post-larval stages of Abrolophus species in Australia (6 spp.), Papua New Guinea (Abrolophus novaeguinensis (Gunther, 1941)) and New Zealand (Abrolophus zelandicus Luxton, 1989).

4. Bifunctional In-MOFs for Selective and Sensitive Detection of Trace Nitrobenzene Compounds in Water and Possessing High Proton Conductivity.

- Abstract
With the escalating prevalence of terrorism and global environmental pollution, nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) have increasingly come into focus as the primary culprit. To counter these challenges, it is imperative to develop simple and efficient methods for detecting NACs. Considering the electron-deficient structure of NAC molecules, this paper constructed a novel three-dimensional In-MOF with permanent porosity using electron-rich organic molecules 4'-[1,2,2-tris(3',5'-dicarboxy[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)ethenyl]-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3,5-dicarboxylic acid (H
8 ETTB) for fluorescence detection by photoinduced electron transfer. The results indicated that In-ETTB can sensitively detect trace NACs in water. In-ETTB exhibited the best detection performance for 3-NP, achieving a Ksv value of 8.75 × 104 M-1 with a limit of detection of 0.27 μΜ in aqueous solution; this belongs to a relatively high level among the reported metal organic framework (MOF) materials. Subsequently, anti-interference experiments revealed that In-ETTB exhibits strong specificity fluorescence recognition of NACs, and it could still maintain its structural integrity and fluorescence emission intensity even after 7 cycles of testing. We confirmed that the fluorescence detection of NACs was due to a combined effect of competitive absorption and photoinduced electron transfer through experimental collaboration DFT calculations in detail. Meanwhile, the proton conductivity reached 2.45 × 10-2 S·cm-1 at 98% relative humidity and 90 °C, which is also a high level in MOFs. This work provides a universal method theoretical basis for designing NAC detectors with practical application prospects.- Published

To lay a groundwork for future research endeavours, this study was prepared to provide an overview of the research chronicle and conduct an analysis of the diversity of mites and ticks recorded in Fiji. An annotated catalogue was assembled, encompassing data on the taxonomy, host/habitat, and geographical distribution of 251 species and subspecies, across 169 genera, 93 families, and four orders.

Chiral 1,2-bis(2,5-diphenylphospholano)ethane (Ph-BPE) is a class of optimal organic bisphosphine ligands with C
2 -symmetry. Ph-BPE with its excellent catalytic performance in asymmetric synthesis has attracted much attention of chemists with increasing popularity and is growing into one of the most commonly used organophosphorus ligands, especially in asymmetric catalysis. Over two hundred examples have been reported since 2012. This review presents how Ph-BPE is utilized in asymmetric synthesis and how powerful it is as a chiral ligand or even a catalyst in a wide range of reactions including applications in the total synthesis of bioactive molecules.- Published

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the radiologic, pathologic, and molecular features of simple bone cysts (SBC), and their differential diagnoses. Methods: Fourteen cases of SBC were collected at the Department of Pathology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from 2017 to 2022, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was performed for retrospective analysis. Results: There were 14 patients, including 7 females and 7 males, with age range of 7 to 45 (median 29) years. The most common complaint was pain, including 4 cases with pathological fracture and 5 with history of previous trauma. The tumor size ranged from 3.4 to 13.5 (median 5.6) cm. The lesion involved the femur ( n= 4), humerus ( n= 5) and iliac bone ( n= 5). Radiologic diagnoses included SBC, aneurysmal bone cyst, and giant cell tumor of the bone or its combination with aneurysmal bone cyst-like region and fibrous dysplasia. Histologically, the cyst walls of the lesions were composed of fibrous tissue, fibrin-like collagen deposits, bone-like matrix and occasional woven bone. The lesional cells were spindled to ovoid, with scattered osteoclast-like giant cells, foamy histiocytes, hemosiderin deposits and cholesterol clefts. In 6 cases there were nodular fasciitis-like areas. Immunohistochemically, the spindled to ovoid cells were positive for SMA, EMA and SATB2 in varying degrees. FISH detection was performed in all 14 cases and EWSR1/FUS rearrangement were found in 9 cases. One case of FUS::NFATC2 fusion was detected by next-generation sequencing. Nine cases of SBC with the rearrangement were more cellular, and there were more mitotic figures in the recurrent FUS::NFATC2 fusion tumor. Clinical follow-up was obtained in all 14 cases with the time ranging from 5 to 105 (mean 46) months. Amongst them, the tumor with FUS::NFATC2 rearrangement had local recurrence twice after the first local excision, but had no more recurrence or metastasis 34 months after the subsequent segmental resection. The other 13 cases had no recurrence. Conclusions: EWSR1 or FUS rearrangement is most commonly identified in SBC, suggesting that SBC might be a neoplastic disease. In cases where the radiologic appearance and histomorphology are difficult to differentiate from aneurysmal bone cyst, FISH detection can aid in the definitive diagnosis.

11. Prognostic analysis of extrameningeal solitary fibrous tumor using the modified Demicco model: a clinicopathologic study of 111 Chinese cases.

- Abstract
Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) represents a fibroblastic neoplasm exhibiting NAB2::STAT6 gene rearrangement, displaying diverse clinical manifestations, spanning from benign to malignant. To predict prognosis, the modified (four-variable) Demicco (mDemicco) model was introduced. This investigation aims to authenticate the mDemicco risk model's precision in Asian patients while investigating the clinicopathological and molecular factors linked to the prognosis of extrameningeal SFTs., Methods: Clinicopathological data from 111 extrameningeal SFT cases in East China, covering the period from 2010 to 2020, were thoroughly analyzed. The tumors were classified using the mDemicco model. Immunohistochemical evaluation of P16 and P53, molecular detection of TP53 and TERT promoter mutation, and fluorescence in situ hybridization for CDKN2A gene alterations were performed. Statistical methods were utilized to assess the associations between clinicopathological or molecular factors and prognosis., Results: Histologically, only one parameter, the mitotic count, exhibited a statistical correlation with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). During the Kaplan-Meier analysis, the variation in PFS among the different risk groups exhibited a notable trend towards statistical significance. Nevertheless, 3 out of 74 patients classified as low-risk SFTs and 7 out of 21 patients classified as intermediate-risk exhibited disease progression. Among the 5 patients with TP53 mutations and/or mutant-type P53 immunophenotype, 3 experienced disease progression, including 2 intermediate-risk patients. Additionally, among the 4 patients with TERT promoter mutations who were followed up, 3 showed progression, including 2 intermediate-risk patients. Moreover, it was observed that hemizygous loss of CDKN2A was detected in more than 30% of one case, yet the patient exhibited a favorable survival outcome., Conclusion: The mDemicco risk model exhibits certain limitations when dealing with smaller tumor sizes, younger age groups, and occurrences of malignant and dedifferentiated SFTs. - Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics, pathological diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma of the central nervous system. Methods: Six cases of Ewing's sarcoma of the central nervous system diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing, China from 2015 to 2022 were collected. The clinical manifestations, histological morphology, immunophenotype and molecular genetics of these cases were analyzed. The related literature was reviewed. Results: There were four males and two females, with a male to female ratio of 2∶1. The onset age was 17-40 years, with a median age of 23 years. All 6 tumors were located in the spinal cord (2 cases of cervical vertebra, 1 case of thoracic vertebra, 2 cases of lumbar vertebra, and 1 case of sacral vertebra). The patients' clinical manifestations were mostly lumbago, weakness and numbness of lower limbs/limbs. In 1 case, the tumor recurred and metastasized to the suprasellar region and the third ventricle. Microscopically, the tumor showed diffuse infiltrative growth. In some cases, the tumor was closely related to the spinal meninges. The tumor cells were arranged in sheet, lobular, thin-rope, and nest-like patterns. Homer-Wright rosette was visible. The tumor cells were small to medium in size, and most of them had scant cytoplasm. A few cells had clear cytoplasm. Some areas were rhabdoid. The tumor cell nuclei showed focal mild pleomorphism. The chromatin was uniform and delicate while the nucleoli were not obvious. Mitosis was commonly seen. The tumor was separated by fibrous connective tissue and may be accompanied by mucinous degeneration. Immunohistochemistry showed that all tumors were positive for CD99, NKX2.2, Fli1, ERG. ATRX, H3K27me3, INI1 and BRG1 were all retained. Immunohistochemical stains for EMA, GFAP and Olig2 were negative. The Ki-67 proliferation index was 30%-70%. EWSR1 break-apart FISH test was positive. Conclusions: Ewing's sarcoma is rare in the central nervous system and needs to be distinguished from a variety of neoplasms with primitive undifferentiated small cell morphology. Immunohistochemistry and molecular genetics may be required for a proper diagnosis.

13. Plasma modification of graphene nanoplatelets surfaces.

Atmospheric plasma processing, which combines the efficacy of chemical processes and the safety of physical processes, has been used to modify the surface characteristics of graphite-based materials. In this work, two distinct plasma source gases, C
4 F8 and O2 , with the addition of a rotary reactor were used. The effectiveness of modifying the basal plane of intercalated graphite nanoplatelets (GnP) was investigated with various analytical techniques and the visual observation of the dispersion of these plasma-treated GnP in solvents was also reported. It is shown that this low-temperature plasma processing technique can be used to successfully modify the GnP surface without significantly changing the intrinsic structure of the GnP, which is desirable in many applications. With the C4 F8 plasma treatment, the immersion characteristics in solvents can be tuned and the functional groups present on the surface can be tailored to produce desired bonding environments. 14. [Primary hepatic angiosarcoma: a clinicopathological analysis of nine cases].

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical manifestations, histomorphology, and differential diagnosis of primary hepatic angiosarcoma. Methods: Nine cases of primary hepatic angiosarcoma diagnosed in the Department of Pathology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2014 to December 2021 were collected, including biopsy and surgical specimens. The histomorphology, clinical, and radiologic findings were analyzed. The relevant literature was also reviewed. Results: There were six males and three females, aged 30 to 73 years (mean 57 years). Grossly, the growth pattern of the tumor was classified as either mass formation or non-mass formation (sinusoidal). Microscopically, the mass-forming primary hepatic angiosarcoma were further subdivided into vasoformative or non-vasoformative growth patterns; and those non-vasoformative tumors had either epithelioid, spindled, or undifferentiated sarcomatoid features. Sinusoidal primary hepatic angiosarcoma on the other hand presented with markedly dilated and congested blood vessels of varying sizes, with mild to moderately atypical endothelial cells. Follow-up in all nine cases revealed 8 mortality ranging from 1 to 18 months (mean 5 months) from initial diagnosis. One patient was alive with disease within a period of 48 months. Conclusions: Primary hepatic angiosarcoma is a rare entity with a wide spectrum of histomorphology, and often misdiagnosed. It should be considered when there are dilated and congested sinusoids, with overt nuclear atypia. The overall biological behavior is aggressive, and the prognosis is worse.

15. Multi-Pleated Alkalized Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-Based Sandwich-Like Structure Composite Nanofibers for High-Performance Sodium/Lithium Storage.

- Abstract
The volume expansion of CoFe
2 O4 anode poses a significant challenge in the commercial application of lithium/sodium-ion batteries (LIBs/SIBs). However, metal-organic-frameworks (MOF) offer superior construction of heterostructures with refined interfacial interactions and lower ion diffusion barriers in Li/Na storage. In this study, the CoFe2 O4 @carbon nanofibers derived from MOF are produced through electrospinning, in situ growth followed by calcination, which are then confined within an MXene-confined MOF-derived porous CoFe2 O4 @carbon composite architecture under alkali treatment. The CoFe2 O4 nanofibers anchor on the alkalized MXene that is decorated with the NaOH solution to form a multi-pleated structure. The sandwich-like structure of the composite effectively alleviates the volume expansion and shortens the Li/Na-ion diffusion path, which displays high capacity and outstanding rate performance as anode materials for LIBs/SIBs. As a consequence, the obtained CoFe2 O4 @carbon@alkalized MXene composite anode shows satisfied rate performance at current density of 10 A g-1 for LIBs (318 mAh·g-1 ) and 5 A g-1 for SIBs (149 mAh g-1 ). The excellent cycling performance is further demonstrated at a high current density, where it maintains a discharge capacity of 807 mAh g-1 at 2 A g-1 after 400 cycles for LIBs and 130 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1 even after 1000 cycles for SIBs., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)- Published

17. [Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor: a clinicopathological analysis].

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological, immunophenotypic, and genetic features of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). Methods: Twenty-three cases of MPNST were diagnosed at the Jiangsu Province Hospital (the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University), China, between January 2012 and December 2022 and thus included in the study. EnVision immunostaining and next-generation sequencing (NGS) were used to examine their immunophenotypical characteristics and genomic aberrations, respectively. Results: There were 10 males and 13 females, with an age range of 11 to 79 years (median 36 years), including 14 cases of neurofibromatosis type I-associated MPNST and 9 cases of sporadic MPNST. The tumors were located in extremities (7 cases), trunk (4 cases), neck and shoulder (3 cases), chest cavity (3 cases), paraspinal area (2 cases), abdominal cavity (2 cases), retroperitoneum (1 case), and pelvic cavity (1 case). Morphologically, the tumors were composed of dense spindle cells arranged in fascicles. Periphery neurofibroma-like pattern was found in 73.9% (17/23) of the cases. Under low magnification, alternating hypercellular and hypocellular areas resembled marbled appearance. Under high power, the tumor cell nuclei were irregular, presenting with oval, conical, comma-like, bullet-like or wavy contour. In 7 cases, the tumor cells demonstrated marked cytological pleomorphism and rare giant tumor cells. The mitotic figures were commonly not less than 3/10 HPF, and geographic necrosis was often noted. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for S-100 (14/23, 60.9%) and SOX10 (11/23, 47.8%). The loss of the CD34-positive fibroblastic network encountered in neurofibromas was observed in 14/17 of the MPNST cases. The loss of H3K27me3 expression was observed in 82.6% (19/23) of the cases. Moreover, SDHA and SDHB losses were presented in one case. NGS revealed that NF1 gene loss of function (germline or somatic) were found in all 5 cases tested. Furthermore, four cases accompanied with somatic mutations of SUZ12 gene and half of them had somatic mutations of TP53 gene, while one case with germline mutation in SDHA gene and somatic mutations in FAT1, BRAF, and KRAS genes. Available clinical follow-up was obtained in 19 cases and ranged from 1 to 67 months. Four patients died of the disease, all of whom had the clinical history of neurofibromatosis type Ⅰ. Conclusions: MPNST is difficult to be differentiated from a variety of spindle cell tumors due to its wide spectrum of histological morphology and complex genetic changes. H3K27me3 is a useful diagnostic marker, while the loss of CD34 positive fibroblastic network can also be a diagnostic feature of MPNST. NF1 gene inactivation mutations and complete loss of PRC2 activity are the common molecular diagnostic features, but other less commonly recurred genomic aberrations might also contribute to the MPNST pathogenesis.

- Abstract
Background: Birth asphyxia causes hypoxia or inadequate perfusion to the organs of newborns, leading to metabolism dysfunctions including blood glucose disorders., Methods: Neonates with and without birth asphyxia were retrospectively recruited from 53 hospitals in Hubei Province from January 1 to December 31, 2018. In summary, 875, 1139, and 180 cases in the control group, the mild asphyxia group, and the severe asphyxia group were recruited, respectively. Neonatal blood glucose values at postnatal 1, 2, 6, and 12 h (time error within 0.5 h was allowed) were gathered from the medical records., Results: The incidence rates of hyperglycemia in the control group, the mild asphyxia group and the severe asphyxia group were 2.97%, 7.90%, and 23.33%, respectively (p < 0.001). Additionally, the incidence rates of hypoglycemia in the three groups above were 3.66%, 4.13%, and 7.78%, respectively (p = 0.042). The blood glucose values of neonates with hypoglycemia in the asphyxia group were lower than in the control group (p = 0.003). Furthermore, the blood glucose values of neonates with hyperglycemia were highest in the severe asphyxia group (p < 0.001). There were 778 and 117 cases with blood glucose records at four predefined time points in the mild and severe asphyxia group, respectively. The incidence of blood glucose disorders in the mild asphyxia group significantly decreased from postnatal 6 h (p<0.05). However, we found no obvious changes of the incidence of glucose disorders within postnatal 12 h in the severe asphyxia group (p = 0.589)., Conclusion: Birth asphyxia is likely to cause neonatal blood glucose disorders, both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, during the early postnatal life. 20. Stable Ultra-thin Silver Films Grown by Soft Ion Beam-Enhanced Sputtering with an Aluminum Cap Layer.

- Abstract
Ultra-thin silver films are susceptible to ambient environments and form grayish layers in the silver mirroring process. The poor wettability together with the high diffusivity of surface atoms in the presence of oxygen accounts for the thermal instability of ultra-thin silver films in the air and at elevated temperatures. This work demonstrates an atomic-scale aluminum cap layer on the silver to enhance the thermal and environmental stabilities of ultra-thin silver films deposited by sputtering with the assistance of a soft ion beam reported in our previous work. The resulted film consists of an ion-beam-treated seed silver layer of ∼1 nm nominal thickness, a subsequent silver layer of ∼6 nm thickness produced by sputtering alone, and an aluminum cap layer of ∼0.2 nm nominal thickness. Although the aluminum cap is only one to two atomic layers and likely non-continuous, it significantly improved the thermal and ambient environmental stability of the ultra-thin silver films (∼7 nm thick) without affecting the film's optical and electrical properties. The improved environmental stability is attributed to the cathodic protection mechanism and reduced diffusivity of surface atoms. The improved thermal stability is attributed to the reduced mobility of surface atoms in the presence of aluminum atoms. Thermal treatment of the duplex film also improves the film's electrical conductivity and optical transmittance by enhancing its crystallinity. The annealed aluminum/silver duplex structure has exhibited the lowest electric resistivity among the reported ultra-thin silver films and high optical transmittance similar to the simulated theoretical results.

The genus Neoseiulus in Shanxi Province is reviewed and seven species are recorded from the province. Four of these are redescribed and detailed taxonomic information are provided. Neoseiulus paraki (Ehara) is recorded for the first time in China and Neoseiulus neoreticuloides (Liang and Hu) is considered a new junior synonym of Neoseiulus bicaudus (Wainstein). Additionally, a diagnostic key to the known species of Neoseiulus in Shanxi is provided.

24. Management of a rare giant cell tumor of the distal fibula: A case report.

Background: Aggressive giant cell tumor of the distal fibula is so rare that no consensus on a surgical strategy has been reached. Thus, an appropriate treatment strategy is still important to discuss., Case Summary: A 61-year-old man who had been experiencing progressive swelling of the left lateral malleolus accompanied by pain for half a year was presented at our hospital. He had never been treated prior to coming to our hospital. Preoperative imaging revealed a 10 cm × 6 cm mass located in the body of the distal fibula. Pathological biopsies confirmed it was a giant cell tumor. Preoperative examination revealed he had dilated cardiomyopathy with class 3 cardiac function. The cardiologist and anesthesiologist determined that he could tolerate the operation, but the operation should be as short and minimally invasive as possible. - Abstract
Objective: To investigate the histopathologic, immunohistochemical, molecular genetic characteristics of CIC-rearranged sarcoma (CRS) with rhabdoid features. Methods: The clinical and pathologic data of two cases of CRS diagnosed between 2019 and 2021 at the Department of Pathology, Jiangsu Province Hospital were analyzed. Immunohistochemical study and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were performed. The relevant literature was reviewed. Results: Both patients were female, one was 58 years old, with tumor located in left thigh; the other was 43 years old, with tumor located in left pelvic cavity. Microscopically, both tumors were composed of small to medium-sized round, oval cells, arranged in nodules or sheets. The tumor cells showed irregular nuclear outline, coarse chromatin with prominent nucleoli and brisk mitotic activity. Both cases showed rhabdoid phenotype with myxoid stromal changes. Immunohistochemically, both cases were positive for CD99 and c-myc. High WT1 reactivity was seen in classic area, with low reactivity in rhabdoid area. There was no INI1 lost in both cases. Both were negative for NKX2.2 and NKX3.1. By FISH both cases demonstrated convincing break-apart signals of CIC gene. One patient died of disease after 1 month, and the other died of disease after 3 months. Conclusions: CRS is a small round cell undifferentiated sarcoma of the bone and soft tissue defined by molecular genetic characteristics, and may show atypical morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics such as rhabdoid features. A correct understanding of its rare morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics, combined with molecular pathologic detection, is conducive to correct diagnosis.

26. Single-beam plasma source deposition of carbon thin films.

- Abstract
A single-beam plasma source was developed and used to deposit hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) thin films at room temperature. The plasma source was excited by a combined radio frequency and direct current power, which resulted in tunable ion energy over a wide range. The plasma source could effectively dissociate the source hydrocarbon gas and simultaneously emit an ion beam to interact with the deposited film. Using this plasma source and a mixture of argon and C
2 H2 gas, a-C:H films were deposited at a rate of ∼26 nm/min. The resulting a-C:H film of 1.2 µm thick was still highly transparent with a transmittance of over 90% in the infrared range and an optical bandgap of 2.04 eV. Young's modulus of the a-C:H film was ∼80 GPa. The combination of the low-temperature high-rate deposition of transparent a-C:H films with moderately high Young's modulus makes the single-beam plasma source attractive for many coatings applications, especially in which heat-sensitive and soft materials are involved. The single-beam plasma source can be configured into a linear structure, which could be used for large-area coatings.- Published

27. Case report: ALK -rearranged spindle and epithelioid cell neoplasms with S100 and CD34 co-expression: Additional evidence of kinase fusion-positive soft tissue tumors.

ALK rearrangements have rarely been reported in S100- and CD34-co-expressing soft tissue neoplasms with lipofibromatosis-like neural tumor (LPFNT) pattern or stromal and perivascular hyalinization, mimicking NTRK -rearranged spindle cell tumors. Here, we reported ALK fusions involving related partner genes in two adult soft tissue tumors with S100 and CD34 co-expression, and conducted a literature review of mesenchymal tumors harboring ALK or other kinase fusions. Case 1 was a 25-year-old female who underwent excision of a soft tissue mass in the anterior thigh region. Morphologically, the tumor was composed of spindle cells adjacent to epithelioid cells embedded in myxedematous and hyalinized stroma, with infiltrative boundary. Spindle cells mixed with inflammatory infiltration resembling inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) were seen sporadically. However, brisk mitosis and focal necrosis was also observed, indicating an intermediate-grade sarcoma. In case 2, the left side of the neck of a 34-year-old man was affected. The tumor was composed of monomorphic spindle cells arranged in fascicular growth or patternless pattern, with stromal and perivascular hyalinization. Sparse inflammatory cell infiltration was also observed. Both tumors showed CD34, S100, and ALK-D5F3 immunoreactivity. Next generation sequencing (NGS) test identified a PLEKHH2::ALK fusion in case 1, which was confirmed by RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing, whereas the RT-PCR (ARMS method) test detected an EML4::ALK fusion in case 2. The enantioselective hydrogenation of arenols to corresponding chiral cyclic alcohols remains a challenge because of their aromaticity and the difficulty in controlling the regio-, chemo-, and stereoselectivity. In this work, the first highly efficient ruthenium-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation of 9-phenanthrols has been successfully realized under mild conditions via trapping the unstable keto tautomers. The method provides a facile access to a range of chiral 9,10-dihydrophenanthren-9-ols with up to 98 % yield and >99 % ee. 29. Tunable, Low-Cost, Multi-Channel, Broadband Liquid Crystal Shutter for Fluorescence Imaging in Widefield Microscopy.

Bistable liquid crystal (LC) shutters have attracted much interest due to their low energy consumption and fast response time. In this paper, we demonstrate an electrically tunable/switchable biostable LC light shutter in biological optics through a three-step easy-assembly, inexpensive, multi-channel shutter. The liquid crystal exhibits tunable transparency (100% to 10% compared to the initial light intensity) under different voltages (0 V to 90 V), indicating its tunable potential. By using biomedical images, the response time, resolution, and light intensity changes of the LC under different voltages in three common fluorescence wavelengths are displayed intuitively. Particularly, the shutter's performance in tumor images under the near-infrared band shows its application potential in biomedical imaging fields.

Supramolecular gels, as a fascinating and useful class of soft materials, constructed from low-molecular-weight gelators via noncovalent interactions have attracted increasing attention in the past few decades. Dendrimers and dendrons are highly branched and monodisperse macromolecules with a well-defined three-dimensional architecture and multiple surface functionalities. In recent years, poly(benzyl ether) dendrimers and dendrons are found to be powerful candidates for constructing gel phase materials in organic or aqueous media due to the advantages of capability of forming multiple noncovalent interactions and significant steric impact. In this Feature Article, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent progress in supramolecular gels involving poly(benzyl ether) dendritic molecules. Firstly, we outline the molecular design strategies of dendritic gelators with an emphasis on the discussion of their gelating units and position in molecular structures. Subsequently, we discuss the potential applications of dendritic gels in light harvesting, stimuli responsive materials, sensors and environmental remediation. In addition, the potential challenges and future perspectives of poly(benzyl ether) dendritic gels have also been discussed. It is hoped that this feature article will attract increasing attention and provide some valuable insights for the future design and evolution of supramolecular gels.

32. Manganese-Catalyzed Asymmetric Formal Hydroamination of Allylic Alcohols: A Remarkable Macrocyclic Ligand Effect.

A unique family of chiral peraza N
6 -macrocyclic ligands, which are conformationally rigid and have a tunable saddle-shaped cavity, is described. Utilizing their manganese(I) complexes, the first example of earth-abundant transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric formal anti-Markovnikov hydroamination of allylic alcohols was realized, providing a practical access to synthetically important chiral γ-amino alcohols in excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield and 98 % ee). The single-crystal structure of a MnI complex indicates that the manganese atom coordinates with the chiral dialkylamine moiety in a bidentate fashion. Further DFT calculations revealed that five of the six nitrogen atoms in the ligand were engaged in multiple noncovalent interactions with Mn, an isopropanol molecule, and a β-amino ketone intermediate via coordination, hydrogen bonding, and/or CH⋅⋅⋅π interactions in the transition state, showing a remarkable role of the macrocyclic framework., (© 2022 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)- Published

34. Rhodium-Catalyzed ON-OFF Switchable Hydrogenation Using a Molecular Shuttle Based on a [2]Rotaxane with a Phosphine Ligand.

A novel pH-responsive molecular shuttle based on a [2]rotaxane with a phosphine ligand has been designed and synthesized. In the rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenation of α,β-dehydroamino acid esters and aryl enamides, ON/OFF-switchable catalysis was accomplished with high ON/OFF ratios by adjusting the movements of the rotaxane wheels located at the catalyst terminals with acid/base. Mechanistic studies using NMR spectroscopy and quasi in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that Rh
III -hydride species are possibly formed in a H2 atmosphere when the catalyst is in the OFF state. During the reaction, a heterolytic activation of dihydrogen occurs by the interlocked rotaxane dibenzylamine and RhI catalytic center acting as a frustrated Lewis pair. Subsequent homolytic splitting of dihydrogen with the newly formed RhI -hydride species generates RhIII -hydride species. The morphological ontogeny of Neoseiulus zwoelferi (Dosse, 1957) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) was studied based on specimens from a laboratory culture originally collected from the leaves of Xanthium sibiricum Patrin ex Widder (Asteraceae) in Taigu County, Shanxi province, China. All life stages including larva, protonymph, deutonymphal female and male, adult female and male were described and illustrated. The morphological characters of Neoseiulus species with both immature and adult stages are discussed. Neoseiulus subreticulatus (Wu, 1987) is considered a junior synonym of Neoseiulus zwoelferi (Dosse, 1957).

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological and molecular features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of TFE3-rearranged epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE). Methods Two cases of TFE3-rearranged EHE arising from soft tissues, diagnosed by the Pathology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from 2013 to 2020 were observed. EnVision method was used for immunophenotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to test TFE3 gene rearrangements and WWTR1-CAMTA1 fusion gene,and next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to delineate the fusion transcripts. Results: Details of these two cases were as follows: case 1, male, 51 years old, with tumor in the right temporal region; case 2, female, 42 years old, with tumor in the right neck. The tumors showed progressive painless enlargement. Grossly, the tumor of case 1 was multinodular with unclear boundary and grayish red cut surface, while the tumor of case 2, originating from a vein, appeared as a firm, tan mass within vessel wall. Microscopically, both tumors showed moderate cellularity and were consisted of plump, epithelioid, or histiocytoid cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm and mild-to-moderate nuclear pleomorphism. Most of the tumor cells were arranged in solid or alveolar growth patterns, while some tumor cells showed intraluminal papillary growth pattern in case 1 and anastomosing vascular channels and extramedullary hematopoiesis in case 2. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells showed diffuse positivity for CD31, CD34, ERG, and TFE3. FISH revealed TFE3 break-apart signals in two cases, but WWTR1-CAMTA1 gene fusion was not detected. NGS identified YAP1 (exon1)-TFE3 (exon6) fusion gene in case 2. Clinical follow-up information was available in both cases for a follow-up period of 15 and 59 months respectively. Patient 1 had a relapse 22 months after surgery, and was currently alive with the tumor. Patient 2 remained disease-free. Conclusions: TFE3-rearranged EHE is a rare molecular subtype of EHE, with accompanying characteristic morphologic features. However the morphologic spectrum remains under-recognized, and more experience is needed. Immunohistochemical and molecular examinations are helpful for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the disease.

1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides and electron deficient alkenes is widely studied for rapid installation of pyrrolidine frameworks. Despite significant advances, the major limitations of this process are creating chiral pyrrolidines bearing a quaternary stereogenic center and controlling the diastereoselectivity. Herein, we present an exo -selective asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition to access chiral pyrrolidines with four contiguous stereogenic centers, including a fluorinated quaternary stereogenic center at C4, wherein a Cu(OAc)
2 /( S )-tol-BINAP catalyst and α-fluoro-α,β-unsaturated arylketone dipolarophiles are used. Epimerization promoted by 5.0 equiv of DBU at 90 °C results in the formation of chiral 4-fluoropyrrolidines ( exo ') while maintaining the optical purity.- Published

- Abstract
Acari represent the most diverse group within the arachnids with some 60,000 described species. It is generally believed that most species of mites are waiting to be discovered and described. Zootaxa was the most important journal for mite taxonomy during the last twenty years (2001 to 2020). It published 1305 papers by 1057 authors during these two decades, with descriptions of 3271 new taxa/names, which account for 24.4% of the total indexed in Zoological Record. The numbers of new synonyms of Acari in Zootaxa (334) also accounted for nearly a quarter (24.9%) of the total published during this period. These data indicate that Zootaxa has been an important and leading journal for acarologists to document the diversity of mites and ticks in the world.

- Abstract
Background: Brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is native to East Asia but has invaded many countries in the world. BMSB is a polyphagous insect pest and causes significant economic losses to agriculture worldwide. Knowledge on the genetic diversity among BMSB populations is scarce but is essential to understand the patterns of colonization and invasion history of local populations. Efforts have been made to assess the genetic diversity of BMSB using partial mitochondrial DNA sequences but genetic divergence on mitochondria is not high enough to precisely accurately identify and distinguish various BMSB populations. Therefore, in this study, we applied a ddRAD (double digest restriction-site associated DNA) sequencing approach to ascertain the genetic diversity of BMSB populations collected from 12 countries (2 native and 10 invaded) across four continents with the ultimate aim to trace the origin of BMSBs intercepted during border inspections and post-border surveillance., Result: A total of 1775 high confidence single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified from ddRAD sequencing data collected from 389 adult BMSB individuals. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the identified SNPs indicated the existence of two main distinct genetic clusters representing individuals sampled from regions where BMSB is native to, China and Japan, respectively, and one broad cluster comprised individuals sampled from countries which have been invaded by BMSB. The population genetic structure analysis further discriminated the genetic diversity among the BMSB populations at a higher resolution and distinguished them into five potential genetic clusters., Conclusion: The study revealed hidden genetic diversity among the studied BMSB populations across the continents. The BMSB populations from Japan were genetically distant from the other studied populations. Similarly, the BMSB populations from China were also genetically differentiated from the Japanese and other populations. Further genetic structure analysis revealed the presence of at least three genetic clusters of BMSB in the invaded countries, possibly originating via multiple invasions. Furthermore, this study has produced novel set of SNP markers to enhance the knowledge of genetic diversity among BMSB populations and demonstrates the potential to trace the origin of BMSB individuals for future invasion events.

43. Nature-Inspired Hierarchical Protrusion Structure Construction for Washable and Wear-Resistant Superhydrophobic Textiles with Self-Cleaning Ability.

- Abstract
The use of toxic components and short longevity greatly restricted the commercial application of superhydrophobic surfaces in oil-water separation, antifouling, and self-cleaning. To address these concerns, a durable, robust, and fluorine-free superhydrophobic fabric is prepared on account of inspiration of nature. In this work, submicrometer-sized silica particles with different particle sizes are deposited onto cotton fabrics, followed by hydrophobic modification of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), and consequently bonded the substrate and coating via powerful covalent bonds through a simple dip-coating technique. The rough surface with an imitated lotus-leaf-like hierarchical protrusion structure is constructed by deposited submicrometer-sized particles with different particle sizes, while the fabric with a low surface energy is achieved by the hydrophobic modification of PDMS. Ultimately, the fabricated fabric exhibits extraordinary superhydrophobicity with a high water contact angle (WCA) of 161° and a small sliding hysteresis angle (SHA) of 2.4°. Besides, considerable mechanical stability to withstand 130 sandpaper abrasion cycles and 40 washing cycles, and chemical resistance with sustained superhydrophobic property in various harsh environments (e.g., boiling water, strong acid/base solutions, and various organic solvents), are presented. Moreover, higher than 90% separation efficiency with a contact angle >150 ° is produced even after 50 cycles when the fabricated fabric serves as a filter during the oil-water separation besides its outstanding staining resistance and self-cleaning property.

- Abstract
Integrative neural interfaces combining neurophysiology and optogenetics with neural imaging provide numerous opportunities for neuroscientists to study the structure and function of neural circuits in the brain. Such a comprehensive interface demands miniature electrode arrays with high transparency, mechanical flexibility, electrical conductivity, and biocompatibility. Conventional transparent microelectrodes made of a single material, such as indium tin oxide (ITO), ultrathin metals, graphene and poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), hardly possess the desired combination of those properties. Herein, ultra-flexible, highly conductive and fully transparent microscale electrocorticogram (μECoG) electrode arrays made of a PEDOT:PSS-ITO-Ag-ITO assembly are constructed on thin parylene C films. The PEDOT:PSS-ITO-Ag-ITO assembly achieves a maximum ∼14% enhancement in light transmission over a broad spectrum (350-650 nm), a significant reduction in electrochemical impedance by 91.25%, and an increase in charge storage capacitance by 1229.78 μC cm
-2 . Peeling, bending, and Young's modulus tests verify the enhanced mechanical flexibility and robustness of the multilayer assembly. The μECoG electrodes enable electrical recordings with high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) (∼35-36 dB) under different color photostimulations, suggesting that the electrodes are resilient to photon-induced artifacts. In vivo animal experiments confirm that our array can successfully record light-evoked ECoG oscillations from the primary visual cortex (V1) of an anesthetized rat.- Published

- Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological diagnosis and differential diagnosis of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). Methods: Thirty-two cases of IMT collected at the People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province from May 2010 to May 2020 were evaluated for their clinical, histologic, immunohistochemical and genomic features, and relevant literature was reviewed. Results: There were 19 male and 13 female patients, with age ranging from 5 to 65 years (mean, 37 years). The tumors were located in the lung and mediastinum (10 cases), gastrointestinal tract and mesentery/omentum (12 cases), urinary bladder (5 cases), head and neck (3 cases), somatic soft tissue (1 case), and retroperitoneum (1 case). Four cases of epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS) were all located intra-abdominally. Histologically, the tumor cells were myofibroblasts and fibroblasts arranged in predominantly fusiform pattern, with variably edematous to myxoid background or sclerotic collagenized stroma, and variably mixed chronic or acute inflammatory cells infiltration. EIMS were composed mainly of epithelioid tumor cells, with myxoid stroma and numerous neutrophils. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells expressed cytoplasmic ALK (25/32, 78%), whereas the four EIMS showed nuclear membrane ALK staining pattern. The tumor cells also expressed CKpan (8/19), SMA (24/32, 75%) and desmin (12/32, 38%); all four EIMS also showed strong positivity for desmin. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for ALK gene rearrangement showed split apart signals in 12 of 15 cases, most commonly with atypical signals. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed in three tumors and showed that one case of lower leg IMT harbored a novel CLIP2-ALK fusion, and two cases of EIMS harbored RANBP2-ALK fusion. Follow-up data were available in 29 patients. Twenty-two patients were alive with no evidence of tumor, four patients had tumor recurrences (three patients were treated with crizotinib and were alive with tumor), and three patients died of the disease (including two patients with EIMS). Conclusions: IMTs show a wide morphologic spectrum, and should be differentiated form a variety of benign or malignant tumors. Immunohistochemistry (ALKp80, ALKD5F3) and FISH (ALK break-apart probe) could assist the diagnosis of IMT, with NGS recommended for the atypical cases.

- Abstract
Background: In the past decade, the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) has caused extensive damage to global agriculture. As a high-risk pest for many countries, including New Zealand, it is important to explore its genetic diversity to enhance our knowledge and devise management strategies for BMSB populations. In this study, two mitochondrial genes, Cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) and Cytochrome c oxidase II (COII) were used to explore the genetic diversity among 463 BMSB individuals collected from 12 countries., Result: In total, 51 COI and 29 COII haplotypes of BMSB were found, which formed 59 combined haplotypes (5 reported and 54 novel). Of these, H1h1 was the predominant haplotype. The haplotype diversity (Hd) and nucleotide diversity (π) were high while the neutrality (Fu's Fs) values were negative for the BMSB populations in the native countries, China, and Japan. For the BMSB populations from the invaded countries, the Fu's Fs values were negative for populations from Chile, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Turkey, and USA, indicating that those populations are under demographic expansion. In comparison, the Fu's Fs values were positive for the populations from Austria, Serbia, and Slovenia, revealing a potential population bottleneck. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) suggested that significant genetic difference exists among the BMSB populations from China, Japan, and the invasive countries., Conclusion: This study revealed that the haplotype diversity of the BMSB populations was high in those two studied countries where BMSB is native to (China and Japan) but low in those countries which have been invaded by the species. The analysis indicated that multiple invasions of BMSB occurred in Europe and the USA. The study also revealed three ancestral lines and most of the novel haplotypes were evolved from them. Moreover, we observed two genetic clusters in the invasive populations that are formed during different invasion events. Our study provided a comprehensive overview on the global haplotypes distribution thus expanding the existing knowledge on BMSB genetic diversity that potentially could play an important role in formulating feasible pest management strategies.
