Gaze object prediction (GOP) aims to predict the category and location of the object that a human is looking at. Previous methods utilized box-level supervision to identify the object that a person is looking at, but struggled with semantic ambiguity, ie, a single box may contain several items since objects are close together. The Vision foundation model (VFM) has improved in object segmentation using box prompts, which can reduce confusion by more precisely locating objects, offering advantages for fine-grained prediction of gaze objects. This paper presents a more challenging gaze object segmentation (GOS) task, which involves inferring the pixel-level mask corresponding to the object captured by human gaze behavior. In particular, we propose that the pixel-level supervision provided by VFM can be integrated into gaze object prediction to mitigate semantic ambiguity. This leads to our gaze object detection and segmentation framework that enables accurate pixel-level predictions. Different from previous methods that require additional head input or ignore head features, we propose to automatically obtain head features from scene features to ensure the model's inference efficiency and flexibility in the real world. Moreover, rather than directly fuse features to predict gaze heatmap as in existing methods, which may overlook spatial location and subtle details of the object, we develop a space-to-object gaze regression method to facilitate human-object gaze interaction. Specifically, it first constructs an initial human-object spatial connection, then refines this connection by interacting with semantically clear features in the segmentation branch, ultimately predicting a gaze heatmap for precise localization. With the exponential growth of data and evolving use cases, petabyte-scale OLAP data platforms are increasingly adopting a model that decouples compute from storage. This shift, evident in organizations like Uber and Meta, introduces operational challenges including massive, read-heavy I/O traffic with potential throttling, as well as skewed and fragmented data access patterns. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces the Alluxio local (edge) cache, a highly effective architectural optimization tailored for such environments. This embeddable cache, optimized for petabyte-scale data analytics, leverages local SSD resources to alleviate network I/O and API call pressures, significantly improving data transfer efficiency. Integrated with OLAP systems like Presto and storage services like HDFS, the Alluxio local cache has demonstrated its effectiveness in handling large-scale, enterprise-grade workloads over three years of deployment at Uber and Meta. The remarkable performance of recent stereo depth estimation models benefits from the successful use of convolutional neural networks to regress dense disparity. Akin to most tasks, this needs gathering training data that covers a number of heterogeneous scenes at deployment time. However, training samples are typically acquired continuously in practical applications, making the capability to learn new scenes continually even more crucial. For this purpose, we propose to perform continual stereo matching where a model is tasked to 1) continually learn new scenes, 2) overcome forgetting previously learned scenes, and 3) continuously predict disparities at inference. We achieve this goal by introducing a Reusable Architecture Growth (RAG) framework. RAG leverages task-specific neural unit search and architecture growth to learn new scenes continually in both supervised and self-supervised manners. It can maintain high reusability during growth by reusing previous units while obtaining good performance. Additionally, we present a Scene Router module to adaptively select the scene-specific architecture path at inference. Comprehensive experiments on numerous datasets show that our framework performs impressively in various weather, road, and city circumstances and surpasses the state-of-the-art methods in more challenging cross-dataset settings. Accurate motion prediction of pedestrians, cyclists, and other surrounding vehicles (all called agents) is very important for autonomous driving. Most existing works capture map information through an one-stage interaction with map by vector-based attention, to provide map constraints for social interaction and multi-modal differentiation. However, these methods have to encode all required map rules into the focal agent's feature, so as to retain all possible intentions' paths while at the meantime to adapt to potential social interaction. In this work, a progressive interaction network is proposed to enable the agent's feature to progressively focus on relevant maps, in order to better learn agents' feature representation capturing the relevant map constraints. The network progressively encode the complex influence of map constraints into the agent's feature through graph convolutions at the following three stages: after historical trajectory encoder, after social interaction, and after multi-modal differentiation. In addition, a weight allocation mechanism is proposed for multi-modal training, so that each mode can obtain learning opportunities from a single-mode ground truth. Experiments have validated the superiority of progressive interactions to the existing one-stage interaction, and demonstrate the effectiveness of each component. Encouraging results were obtained in the challenging benchmarks.

We observe a high level of imbalance in the accuracy of different classes in the same old task for the first time. This intriguing phenomenon, discovered in replay-based Class Incremental Learning (CIL), highlights the imbalanced forgetting of learned classes, as their accuracy is similar before the occurrence of catastrophic forgetting. This discovery remains previously unidentified due to the reliance on average incremental accuracy as the measurement for CIL, which assumes that the accuracy of classes within the same task is similar. However, this assumption is invalid in the face of catastrophic forgetting. Further empirical studies indicate that this imbalanced forgetting is caused by conflicts in representation between semantically similar old and new classes. These conflicts are rooted in the data imbalance present in replay-based CIL methods. Building on these insights, we propose CLass-Aware Disentanglement (CLAD) to predict the old classes that are more likely to be forgotten and enhance their accuracy. Importantly, CLAD can be seamlessly integrated into existing CIL methods. This paper explores a prevailing trend in the industry: migrating data-intensive analytics applications from on-premises to cloud-native environments. We find that the unique cost models associated with cloud-based storage necessitate a more nuanced understanding of optimizing performance. Specifically, based on traces collected from Uber's Presto fleet in production, we argue that common I/O optimizations, such as table scan and filter, and broadcast join, may lead to unexpected costs when naively applied in the cloud. This is because traditional I/O optimizations mainly focus on improving throughput or latency in on-premises settings, without taking into account the monetary costs associated with storage API calls. In cloud environments, these costs can be significant, potentially involving billions of API calls per day just for Presto workloads at Uber scale. In this paper, we consider an inverse space-dependent source problem for a time-fractional diffusion equation. To deal with the ill-posedness of the problem, we transform the problem into an optimal control problem with total variational (TV) regularization. In contrast to the classical Tikhonov model incorporating $L^2$ penalty terms, the inclusion of a TV term proves advantageous in reconstructing solutions that exhibit discontinuities or piecewise constancy. The control problem is approximated by a fully discrete scheme, and convergence results are provided within this framework. Furthermore, a lineraed primal-dual iterative algorithm is proposed to solve the discrete control model based on an equivalent saddle-point reformulation, and several numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the algorithm.

In this paper, we consider a numerical method for the multi-term Caputo-Fabrizio time-fractional diffusion equations (with orders $\alpha_i\in(0,1)$, $i=1,2,\cdots,n$). The proposed method employs a fast finite difference scheme to approximate multi-term fractional derivatives in time, requiring only $O(1)$ storage and $O(N_T)$ computational complexity, where $N_T$ denotes the total number of time steps. Then we use a Legendre spectral collocation method for spatial discretization. The stability and convergence of the scheme have been thoroughly discussed and rigorously established. We demonstrate that the proposed scheme is unconditionally stable and convergent with an order of $O(\left(\Delta t\right)^{2}+N^{-m})$, where $\Delta t$, $N$, and $m$ represent the timestep size, polynomial degree, and regularity in the spatial variable of the exact solution, respectively. Numerical results are presented to validate the theoretical predictions.

The normalized eight-point algorithm has been widely viewed as the cornerstone in two-view geometry computation, where the seminal Hartley's normalization has greatly improved the performance of the direct linear transformation algorithm. A natural question is, whether there exists and how to find other normalization methods that may further improve the performance as per each input sample. In this paper, we provide a novel perspective and propose two contributions to this fundamental problem: 1) we revisit the normalized eight-point algorithm and make a theoretical contribution by presenting the existence of different and better normalization algorithms; 2) we introduce a deep convolutional neural network with a self-supervised learning strategy for normalization. Given eight pairs of correspondences, our network directly predicts the normalization matrices, thus learning to normalize each input sample. Our learning-based normalization module can be integrated with both traditional (e.g., RANSAC) and deep learning frameworks (affording good interpretability) with minimal effort. When deployed in practical applications, computer vision systems will encounter numerous unexpected images (\emph{{i.e.}}, out-of-distribution data). Due to the potentially raised safety risks, these aforementioned unseen data should be carefully identified and handled. Generally, existing approaches in dealing with out-of-distribution (OOD) detection mainly focus on the statistical difference between the features of OOD and in-distribution (ID) data extracted by the classifiers. Although many of these schemes have brought considerable performance improvements, reducing the false positive rate (FPR) when processing open-set images, they necessarily lack reliable theoretical analysis and generalization guarantees. Unlike the observed ways, in this paper, we investigate the OOD detection problem based on the Bayes rule and present a convincing description of the reason for failures encountered by conventional classifiers. Concretely, our analysis reveals that refining the probability distribution yielded by the vanilla neural networks is necessary for OOD detection, alleviating the issues of assigning high confidence to OOD data. To achieve this effortlessly, we propose an ultra-effective method to generate near-realistic outlier supervision. Extensive experiments on large-scale benchmarks reveal that our proposed \texttt{BayesAug} significantly reduces the FPR95 over 12.50\% compared with the previous schemes, boosting the reliability of machine learning systems. Presto is an open-source distributed SQL query engine for OLAP, aiming for "SQL on everything". Since open-sourced in 2013, Presto has been consistently gaining popularity in large-scale data analytics and attracting adoption from a wide range of enterprises. From the development and operation of Presto, we witnessed a significant amount of CPU consumption on parsing column-oriented data files in Presto worker nodes. This blocks some companies, including Meta, from increasing analytical data volumes. In this paper, we present a metadata caching layer, built on top of the Alluxio SDK cache and incorporated in each Presto worker node, to cache the intermediate results in file parsing. The metadata cache provides two caching methods: caching the decompressed metadata bytes from raw data files and caching the deserialized metadata objects. Our evaluation of the TPC-DS benchmark on Presto demonstrates that when the cache is warm, the first method can reduce the query's CPU consumption by 10%-20%, whereas the second method can minimize the CPU usage by 20%-40%., Comment: 5 pages, 8 figures

Although 3D point cloud data has received widespread attentions as a general form of 3D signal expression, applying point clouds to the task of dense correspondence estimation between 3D shapes has not been investigated widely. Furthermore, even in the few existing 3D point cloud-based methods, an important and widely acknowledged principle, i.e . one-to-one matching, is usually ignored. In response, this paper presents a novel end-to-end learning-based method to estimate the dense correspondence of 3D point clouds, in which the problem of point matching is formulated as a zero-one assignment problem to achieve a permutation matching matrix to implement the one-to-one principle fundamentally. Note that the classical solutions of this assignment problem are always non-differentiable, which is fatal for deep learning frameworks. Thus we design a special matching module, which solves a doubly stochastic matrix at first and then projects this obtained approximate solution to the desired permutation matrix. Moreover, to guarantee end-to-end learning and the accuracy of the calculated loss, we calculate the loss from the learned permutation matrix but propagate the gradient to the doubly stochastic matrix directly which bypasses the permutation matrix during the backward propagation. Existing learning-based point feature descriptors are usually task-agnostic, which pursue describing the individual 3D point clouds as accurate as possible. However, the matching task aims at describing the corresponding points consistently across different 3D point clouds. Therefore these too accurate features may play a counterproductive role due to the inconsistent point feature representations of correspondences caused by the unpredictable noise, partiality, deformation, \etc, in the local geometry. In this paper, we propose to learn a robust task-specific feature descriptor to consistently describe the correct point correspondence under interference. Born with an Encoder and a Dynamic Fusion module, our method EDFNet develops from two aspects. First, we augment the matchability of correspondences by utilizing their repetitive local structure. To this end, a special encoder is designed to exploit two input point clouds jointly for each point descriptor. It not only captures the local geometry of each point in the current point cloud by convolution, but also exploits the repetitive structure from paired point cloud by Transformer. Second, we propose a dynamical fusion module to jointly use different scale features. There is an inevitable struggle between robustness and discriminativeness of the single scale feature. Specifically, the small scale feature is robust since little interference exists in this small receptive field. But it is not sufficiently discriminative as there are many repetitive local structures within a point cloud. Thus the resultant descriptors will lead to many incorrect matches. A single rolling-shutter (RS) image may be viewed as a row-wise combination of a sequence of global-shutter (GS) images captured by a (virtual) moving GS camera within the exposure duration. Although RS cameras are widely used, the RS effect causes obvious image distortion especially in the presence of fast camera motion, hindering downstream computer vision tasks. In this paper, we propose to invert the RS image capture mechanism, i.e., recovering a continuous high framerate GS video from two time-consecutive RS frames. We call this task the RS temporal super-resolution (RSSR) problem. The RSSR is a very challenging task, and to our knowledge, no practical solution exists to date. This paper presents a novel deep-learning based solution. By leveraging the multi-view geometry relationship of the RS imaging process, our learning-based framework successfully achieves high framerate GS generation. Specifically, three novel contributions can be identified: (i) novel formulations for bidirectional RS undistortion flows under constant velocity as well as constant acceleration motion model. (ii) a simple linear scaling operation, which bridges the RS undistortion flow and regular optical flow. (iii) a new mutual conversion scheme between varying RS undistortion flows that correspond to different scanlines. Our method also exploits the underlying spatial-temporal geometric relationships within a deep learning framework, where no additional supervision is required beyond the necessary middle-scanline GS image. Building upon these contributions, we represent the very first rolling-shutter temporal super-resolution deep-network that is able to recover high framerate GS videos from just two RS frames. Anchor-free detectors basically formulate object detection as dense classification and regression. For popular anchor-free detectors, it is common to introduce an individual prediction branch to estimate the quality of localization. The following inconsistencies are observed when we delve into the practices of classification and quality estimation. Firstly, for some adjacent samples which are assigned completely different labels, the trained model would produce similar classification scores. This violates the training objective and leads to performance degradation. Secondly, it is found that detected bounding boxes with higher confidences contrarily have smaller overlaps with the corresponding ground-truth. Accurately localized bounding boxes would be suppressed by less accurate ones in the Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS) procedure. To address the inconsistency problems, the Dynamic Smooth Label Assignment (DSLA) method is proposed. Based on the concept of centerness originally developed in FCOS, a smooth assignment strategy is proposed. The label is smoothed to a continuous value in [0, 1] to make a steady transition between positive and negative samples. Intersection-of-Union (IoU) is predicted dynamically during training and is coupled with the smoothed label. The dynamic smooth label is assigned to supervise the classification branch. Under such supervision, quality estimation branch is naturally merged into the classification branch, which simplifies the architecture of anchor-free detector. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on the MS COCO benchmark. It is demonstrated that, DSLA can significantly boost the detection accuracy by alleviating the above inconsistencies for anchor-free detectors. With the ubiquity of rolling shutter (RS) cameras, it is becoming increasingly attractive to recover the latent global shutter (GS) video from two consecutive RS frames, which also places a higher demand on realism. Existing solutions, using deep neural networks or optimization, achieve promising performance. However, these methods generate intermediate GS frames through image warping based on the RS model, which inevitably result in black holes and noticeable motion artifacts. In this paper, we alleviate these issues by proposing a context-aware GS video reconstruction architecture. It facilitates the advantages such as occlusion reasoning, motion compensation, and temporal abstraction. Specifically, we first estimate the bilateral motion field so that the pixels of the two RS frames are warped to a common GS frame accordingly. Then, a refinement scheme is proposed to guide the GS frame synthesis along with bilateral occlusion masks to produce high-fidelity GS video frames at arbitrary times. Furthermore, we derive an approximated bilateral motion field model, which can serve as an alternative to provide a simple but effective GS frame initialization for related tasks. Experiments on synthetic and real data show that our approach achieves superior performance over state-of-the-art methods in terms of objective metrics and subjective visual quality. 3D point cloud registration is fragile to outliers, which are labeled as the points without corresponding points. To handle this problem, a widely adopted strategy is to estimate the relative pose based only on some accurate correspondences, which is achieved by building correspondences on the identified inliers or by selecting reliable ones. However, these approaches are usually complicated and time-consuming. By contrast, the virtual point-based methods learn the virtual corresponding points (VCPs) for all source points uniformly without distinguishing the outliers and the inliers. Although this strategy is time-efficient, the learned VCPs usually exhibit serious collapse degeneration due to insufficient supervision and the inherent distribution limitation. In this paper, we propose to exploit the best of both worlds and present a novel robust 3D point cloud registration framework. We follow the idea of the virtual point-based methods but learn a new type of virtual points called rectified virtual corresponding points (RCPs), which are defined as the point set with the same shape as the source and with the same pose as the target. Hence, a pair of consistent point clouds, i.e. source and RCPs, is formed by rectifying VCPs to RCPs (VRNet), through which reliable correspondences between source and RCPs can be accurately obtained. Since the relative pose between source and RCPs is the same as the relative pose between source and target, the input point clouds can be registered naturally. Specifically, we first construct the initial VCPs by using an estimated soft matching matrix to perform a weighted average on the target points. Then, we design a correction-walk module to learn an offset to rectify VCPs to RCPs, which effectively breaks the distribution limitation of VCPs. Limited by the locality of convolutional neural networks, most existing local features description methods only learn local descriptors with local information and lack awareness of global and surrounding spatial context. In this work, we focus on making local descriptors "look wider to describe better" by learning local Descriptors with More Than just Local information (MTLDesc). Specifically, we resort to context augmentation and spatial attention mechanisms to make our MTLDesc obtain non-local awareness. First, Adaptive Global Context Augmented Module and Diverse Local Context Augmented Module are proposed to construct robust local descriptors with context information from global to local. Second, Consistent Attention Weighted Triplet Loss is designed to integrate spatial attention awareness into both optimization and matching stages of local descriptors learning. Third, Local Features Detection with Feature Pyramid is given to obtain more stable and accurate keypoints localization. With the above innovations, the performance of our MTLDesc significantly surpasses the prior state-of-the-art local descriptors on HPatches, Aachen Day-Night localization and InLoc indoor localization benchmarks.

There is an increasing need to determine whether inputs are out-of-distribution (\emph{OOD}) for safely deploying machine learning models in the open world scenario. Typical neural classifiers are based on the closed world assumption, where the training data and the test data are drawn \emph{i.i.d.} from the same distribution, and as a result, give over-confident predictions even faced with \emph{OOD} inputs. For tackling this problem, previous studies either use real outliers for training or generate synthetic \emph{OOD} data under strong assumptions, which are either costly or intractable to generalize. In this paper, we propose boundary aware learning (\textbf{BAL}), a novel framework that can learn the distribution of \emph{OOD} features adaptively. The key idea of BAL is to generate \emph{OOD} features from trivial to hard progressively with a generator, meanwhile, a discriminator is trained for distinguishing these synthetic \emph{OOD} features and in-distribution (\emph{ID}) features. Benefiting from the adversarial training scheme, the discriminator can well separate \emph{ID} and \emph{OOD} features, allowing more robust \emph{OOD} detection. The proposed BAL achieves \emph{state-of-the-art} performance on classification benchmarks, reducing up to 13.9\% FPR95 compared with previous methods.
