Abstract Background Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is often diagnosed at an advanced stage due to the lack of non-invasive early detection tools, which significantly impacts patient prognosis. Given that glycosylation alterations especially high sialylation and fucosylation, frequently occur during cellular malignant transformation, but their roles are not elucidated. We examined alterations in disease-specific glycosylated extracellular vesicles (EVs)-derived miRNAs in the serum of ESCC patients, evaluating their utility as diagnostic biomarkers. Methods A total of 371 ESCC and 303 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited in this multi-stage, multicentre case-control study. Fucosylated (Fuc-) and sialylated (Sia-) EVs were isolated utilizing Lentil lectin (LCA) and wheat germ lectin (WGA)-coated magnetic beads, respectively. The glycosylated EVs-derived miRNAs-based signature (RiskscoreFuc−&Sia−) was established through logistic regression in a training cohort and subsequently validated in an internal and an external multicentre cohort. Results The RiskscoreFuc−&Sia− effectively identified ESCC across all stages, demonstrating high AUC values in training (0.980), internal validation (0.957), and external multicentre validation (0.973) cohorts, markedly higher than carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) (AUC = 0.769, training cohort; AUC = 0.749, internal validation cohort; AUC = 0.765, external validation cohort). Abstract This study aimed to investigate whether driving pressure-guided ventilation can reduce postoperative pulmonary complications in patients who have undergone heart transplantation. Patients who underwent orthotopic heart transplantation were divided into two groups according to the perioperative ventilation strategy: (1) conventional lung-protective ventilation (group C) and (2) driving pressure-guided ventilation (group D). The primary outcome was the occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications within 30 days of surgery. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the independent risk factors associated with postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). Compared with group C, patients in group D exhibited lower driving pressure. Oxygenation improved significantly in the early period after surgery in patients in group D. Group C exhibited a higher number of patients with postoperative pulmonary complications, especially respiratory infections and atelectasis. Patients in group D experienced a shorter duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation and a shorter stay in the intensive care unit. The conventional ventilation strategy, the high driving pressure level and the low PaO2 value at the end of the surgery were the independent risk factors for PPCs in heart transplantation. Compared with conventional lung-protective ventilation, driving pressure-guided ventilation was associated with improved pulmonary oxygenation and lower incidences of pulmonary complications among patients after heart transplantation.

To further improve the corrosion inhibition efficiency in acid washing environments and reduce costs, an efficient bis-imidazoline quaternary ammonium salt(SMZB) compound was synthesized by using oleic acid, triethylenetetramine,and bromo-n-butane as raw materials. The corrosion inhibition performance and mechanism of SMZB on Q235 in 1.0 mol/L HCl solution were studied through methods such as weight loss experiments, electrochemical experiments, surface morphology, and theoretical calculations. The results showed that when the concentration of SMZB was 2.0 mmol/L, the inhibition efficiencies by weight loss experiment, EIS, and Tafel corrosion were 98.88%,98.15%, and 99.62%, respectively. Electrochemical experiments further proved that SMZB could adsorb on the surface of Q235 to form a stable protective film and further reduced the charge transfer rate within the corrosion system. SMZB was a mixed corrosion inhibitor that mainly suppresses the cathode and follows the Langmuir isotherm adsorption equation. Theoretical calculations indicated that the adsorption sites of SMZB were mainly located in the imidazole ring and Br-, and could spontaneously adsorb on the surface of Q235. SMZB exhibited excellent corrosion inhibition performance in a 1.0 mol/L HCl solution, which was mainly due to the formation of a stable protective film on the surface of Q235 and the reduction of the charge transfer rate within the system, thus providing excellent corrosion inhibition performance.

Abstract Background Healthy food nudges may be more, or especially, effective among groups experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage. We investigated the modifying role of socioeconomic and demographic characteristics in the effectiveness of nudge interventions targeting healthy foods in real-world grocery store settings on food purchasing patterns. Methods We pooled individual participant data from multiple trials. Eligible trials were identified via a PubMed search and selected based on having a controlled real-world design, testing a nudging intervention promoting healthy purchases, while collecting participants’ sociodemographic and purchasing data. Out of four eligible trials, three had longitudinal measurements, one consisted of a single time point, two were randomised and two were not. Applied nudges consisted of a combination of placement nudges (focussing on availability or positioning) and property nudges (presentation and/or information). Harmonised data included dichotomised socioeconomic and demographic variables and the percentage of purchased fruits and vegetables of total purchases. Multilevel meta-regression based on linear mixed-effects models were used to explore modifying effects using two approaches: longitudinal and cross-sectional analyses. Results The analytical sample in the longitudinal analysis comprised of 638 participants, who were predominantly female (76.3%), had a lower education attainment (67.7%), and a mean age of 46.6 years (SD 13.5). These characteristics were similar in the cross-sectional analysis (n = 855). Compared to control group participants, there was no main effect of healthy food nudges on the percentage of fruit and vegetable purchases by intervention group participants in the longitudinal analysis (β = 0.00; 95%CI -0.03, 0.09). This main effect was not modified by educational attainment (βgroup*higher education = -0.06; -0.40, 0.02), sex (βgroup*females = 0.13; -0.00, 0.61) nor age (βgroup*older adults = -0.05; -0.39, 0.02). Results from the cross-sectional analysis were comparable. Conclusions This pooled analyses of four controlled trials did not find evidence supporting the hypothesis that grocery store nudge interventions of healthy foods work more effectively among groups experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage. Future studies are needed to address the identified limitations through rigorous trial design using comprehensive interventional strategies, standardised outcome measures, while also evaluating context-specific approaches. Such insights will help to better understand the equity of nudging interventions in grocery store settings and the potential for reducing diet-related health disparities. Objective Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy is a widely used surgical technique for treating meniscus injuries, while individual differences in postoperative outcomes remain a significant concern. This retrospective study aimed to identify the factors influencing clinical outcomes following arthroscopic partial meniscectomy. Methods We retrospectively examined the clinical data of 52 patients who underwent arthroscopic partial meniscectomy at our institution from January to May 2022. Observation indicators, including gender, age, type of medical insurance, various surgeons, the self‐pay portion of hospital costs, and total hospital costs, were systematically recorded. Subjective symptoms were evaluated with ΔTenger, ΔLysholm, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores during follow‐up. The trends of the above questionnaires and potential predictors were statistically evaluated through regression analysis. Results Binary logistic analysis revealed that female patients (OR: 32.42; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.22, 473.86) and higher preoperative visual analog scale (VAS) (odds ratio [OR]: 3.58; 95% CI: 1.55, 8.28) were significantly associated with FP Lysholm score. Similarly, patients with elevated preoperative VAS (OR: 1.47; 95% CI: 1.01, 2.15) were significantly more likely to have FP IKDC scores. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that traumatic meniscus tear (β = −0.324; 95% CI: −0.948, −0.036; p = 0.035) emerged as a negative independent predictor of ΔTegner, while higher preoperative VAS scores (β = 0.330; 95% CI: 0.013, 0.217; p = 0.028) were identified as positive independent predictors of ΔTegner. The duration of symptoms (β = −0.327; 95% CI: −0.010, −0.001; p = 0.023) had a negative impact on the ΔLysholm scores. Factors such as body mass index (BMI) (β = −0.250; 95% CI: −1.000, −0.020; p = 0.042), duration of symptoms (β = −0.302; 95% CI: −0.009, −0.001; p = 0.014), and preoperative VAS (β = −0.332; 95% CI: −1.813, −0.250; p = 0.011) were negatively associated with ΔIKDC scores. Conclusion The study offers insights into multiple factors for patient outcomes after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy. Orthopedic surgeons need to consider variables such as gender, BMI, duration of symptoms, preoperative VAS, and the traumatic/degenerative types of meniscal tears to optimize postoperative outcomes.

Abstract The RVd therapy, combining lenalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone, is a mainstay treatment for multiple myeloma. A multiple myeloma patient developed pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) following RVd treatment, despite the absence of common PRCA triggers. In vitro analyses reveal lenalidomide as a pivotal disruptor of erythropoiesis. Single-cell transcriptome analysis unveils hyperactive CD8+ T cells and impaired erythropoiesis in the patient’s bone marrow. Unexpectedly, the patient’s erythroid cells display abnormally high expression of genes in the antigen presentation pathway, particularly those for major histocompatibility class I (MHC-I) molecules. Functional assays demonstrate that lenalidomide treatment further augmented MHC-I expression in the patient’s erythroid cells. Blocking MHC-I or depleting T cells alleviates the defective erythropoiesis of PRCA, suggesting that the interaction between erythroid cells with elevated MHC-I and T cells in the bone marrow might contribute to PRCA. Taken together, our study implicates a mechanism underlying lenalidomide-induced PRCA in treating cancer patients.

Abstract Background The 24-hour movement guidelines (24-HMG) include screen time (ST), sleep duration, and physical activity. Previous studies have explored the associations of adherence to the 24-HMG with depression and anxiety symptoms among adolescents, ignoring changes in behaviors. This study aimed to examine whether changes in adherence to the 24-HMG were associated with depression and anxiety symptoms among adolescents. Methods We recruited adolescents from Shenzhen, China in 2021 and followed them up 1 year later. Changes in adherence to the individual 24-HMG were categorized into four groups: persistent non-adherence, adherence to non-adherence, non-adherence to adherence, and persistent adherence. Changes in the numbers of adherence to the overall 24-HMG were obtained by subtracting the number of guidelines adhered to in wave 2 from that in wave 1. Results We included 12,570 participants aged 9–18 years with 52.2% boys. Compared with persistent non-adherence for the ST/sleep duration guideline, non-adherence to adherence and persistent adherence were associated with lower depression and anxiety symptoms, but adherence to non-adherence was not. Changes in adherence to the physical activity guideline were not related to outcomes. The β coefficients (95% CIs) for each point increase in changes in the numbers of adherence to guidelines were − 0.58 (− 0.69, − 0.47) and − 0.43 (− 0.53, − 0.33) for depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. The association of persistently adhering to sleep guideline with anxiety symptoms and the associations of changes in the numbers of adherence to the 24-HMG had sex differences. Conclusions Maintaining and strengthening healthy movement behaviors to meet more guidelines of the 24-HMG, especially sleep and ST, may be beneficial for preventing depression and anxiety symptoms in adolescents.

K-12 artificial intelligence (AI) education requires cultivating students' computational thinking in the school curriculum so as to transfer their computational thinking to diverse problems and authentic contexts. However, students may be limited by traditional computational thinking development activities because they may have a lower degree of computational thinking efficacy for persistent learning of AI when encountering difficulties (computational thinking efficacy in learning AI). Accordingly, this study aimed to explore the relationships among Chinese secondary school students' computational thinking efficacy in learning AI, their AI literacy, and approaches to learning AI. Structural equation modeling was adopted to examine the mediation effect. Data were gathered from 509 Chinese secondary school students, and the confirmatory factor analyses showed that the measures had high reliability and validity. The results revealed that AI literacy was positively related to students' computational thinking efficacy in learning AI, which was mediated by more sophisticated approaches to learning AI, contributing to the current understanding of learning AI. It is crucial to focus on students' AI literacy and deep approaches (e.g., engaging in authentic AI contexts with systematic learning activities for in-depth understanding of AI knowledge) rather than surface approaches (e.g., memorizing AI knowledge) to develop their high-level computational thinking efficacy in learning AI. Implications for designing the AI curriculum are discussed.

Abstract Background Meeting the 24-hour movement behavior (24-HMB) guideline helps enhance quality of life (QOL) of adolescents. This study aimed to assess the associations between the 24-HMB (physical activity, screen time, sleep) and QOL among adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted between September 2021 and September 2023. 24-HMB, QOL and demographic variables were collected through a self-reported questionnaire. Linear regression models and stratified analyses were used to explore statistical associations between the 24-HMB and QOL. Results A total of 1073 participants aged 10–18 years with a spinal Cobb angle between 10° and 40° were included. Overall, 20 participants (1.9%) met all three behavioral guidelines, and 272 participants (25.3%) met none. In the context of global climate change, one central interest is an improved understanding of the global carbon cycle. A large number of studies have investigated carbon cycling and associated elements, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus. However, as an essential element for diatom growth, Si has been largely ignored. Si is the second most abundant element and is widely distributed on Earth. The chemical weathering of silicates on land and photosynthesis of diatoms in the ocean play an important role in atmospheric CO2 levels at various timescales. Diatoms are the primary producers in the ocean and account for as much as 40% of the annual ocean carbon fixation, which have an absolute requirement for Si to form siliceous cells. The main mechanism underlying ocean carbon sinks is a "biological pump." The biological pump is driven by the biological Si pump to a large extent. Therefore, the biogeochemical process of Si has become one of the key research issues for global environmental change.Based on previous studies, the regulation and influence of the Si biogeochemical cycle on the carbon cycle are discussed in this review. The coupling effect and mechanism of the Si and carbon cycles in shellfish culture ecosystems were analyzed and the key research questions were explored. Chemical weathering of silicates and the cycling of their products form the basis of Si biogeochemistry. CO2 is consumed during weathering reactions. Therefore, silicate weathering on land represents an important sink for atmospheric CO2. Furthermore, at the geological timescale, primary silicate mineral weathering is the source of secondary silicate. Terrestrial plants absorb soluble silica through their root system during growth. Amorphous silica deposited in plant tissue after maturity is called phytolith. Phytoliths have excellent geochemical stability and occlude a certain amount of organic carbon during the formation process. The organic carbon occluded within phytolith is called phytolith-occluded carbon (PhytOC) and is buried in the soil. PhytOC is released into the soil with phytolith and may be preserved in soils for several thousands of years. As a consequence, PhytOC in terrestrial ecosystems could be significant potential carbon sinks globally due to the refractory phytolith. Primarily through river input, the dissolved silicate (DSi) is transported into the coastal ocean (approximately 84% of DSi input to the oceans). As the major primary producer, diatoms absorb DSi during growth and account for a large fraction of the total carbon fixation in the modern oceans. DSi is converted into biogenic silica via biological processes, is transported to the deep ocean, and is finally buried into sediments with organic carbon in the marine ecosystem. Thus, by controlling the contribution of diatoms to the total primary production, DSi can affect the carbon cycle in oceans. The carbon pump is driven by the Si pump.Mariculture has developed quickly in recent decades. Shellfish, which are dominated by filter-feeding species, are the main mariculture species. The filter-feeding shellfish consume particulate organic carbon as phytoplankton and use dissolved inorganic carbon to build their shell during growth. Filter-feeding shellfish are an import fishery carbon sink. As one of the important feed sources of filter-feeding shellfish, diatoms form fishery carbon sinks in coastal shellfish culture areas. Silicate is an essential salt for diatom growth. Consequently, the carbon sink of filter-feeding shellfish culture is connected with DSi through diatoms. Si could play an important role in driving the formation of carbon sinks in filter-feeding shellfish culture. Hence, it is necessary to consider all processes and coupling effects in the study of the Si biogeochemical cycle. It is important to understand its role in the carbon sinks of shellfish culture.Nowadays, in many systems, human perturbation has resulted in a decline in the ratio of Si: N to 1:1 or less, with severe impacts on the quality and structure of aquatic ecosystems. DSi limitation has been reported in many studies, in both coastal and marine waters. DSi limitation causes shifts from diatoms to non-siliceous algae and is supposedly related to the decreasing export of carbon. A shift from diatoms to other species would enhance the recycling of organic matter in the upper water column because diatoms are very effective in carbon sequestration. DSi limitation has also appeared in some aquaculture bays in China, such as Jiaozhou Bay and Laizhou Bay, in spring. Regarding future directions, it is suggested that more research be conducted on Si biogeochemistry in shellfish culture systems and coupling with the carbon cycle. The subsequent results could evaluate the role of Si in the carbon sink of filter-feeding shellfish culture. Future studies are expected to provide ideas for alleviating Si deficiency in the aquaculture bay and exploring the expansion path in shellfish farming.

There is research evidence that creative agency has attracted worldwide attention in mainstream education as it could foster learners' active roles in taking control of their creative processes. However, without appropriate supporting tools, students may struggle to convey their ideas in complex creative practices. Digital storytelling and mobile technology are regarded as proper supportive tools to cultivate creative agency in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. In addition, concept mapping could improve students' creative thinking and knowledge activation. However, to the best of our knowledge, the effect of integrating mobile storytelling and concept mapping on promoting creative agency in EFL learning contexts remains unclear. Accordingly, this quasi-experimental study explored how a concept mapping-based mobile storytelling approach contributed to learners' creative agency by examining 102 sixth-grade primary school students' EFL performance and creative agency products, creative self-efficacy, agentic engagement, self-regulation, and motivation to learn English. The results of this study revealed that the experimental group with the concept mapping-guided mobile storytelling for creative agency approach outperformed the control group with the storyboard scaffolding-guided mobile storytelling for creative agency approach in all of the above aspects. This study provides new insights for teachers to motivate students' creative agency in EFL learning from the process-oriented creativity and product-oriented perspectives (i.e., setting goals, designing creative plans with concept maps, reflecting on issues, and evaluating creation).

Research evidence indicated that a specific type of augmented reality-assisted (AR-assisted) science learning design or support might not suit or be effective for all students because students' cognitive load might differ according to their experiences and individual characteristics. Thus, this study aimed to identify undergraduate students' profiles of cognitive load in AR-assisted science learning and to examine the role of their distinct profiles in self-efficacy together with associated behavior patterns in science learning. After ensuring the validity and reliability of each measure, a latent profile analysis confirmed that 365 Chinese undergraduates carried diverse dimensions of cognitive load simultaneously. The latent profile analysis findings revealed four fundamental profiles: Low Engagement, Immersive, Dabbling, and Organized, characterized as carrying various respective cognitive loads. The multivariate analysis of variance findings revealed different levels of the six AR science learning self-efficacy dimensions across profiles. Low Engagement students displayed the lowest self-efficacy among all dimensions. Organized students recorded better conceptual understanding and higher-order cognitive skills than Dabbling ones. Students with the Immersive profile had the highest science learning self-efficacy. The lag sequential analysis results showed significant differences in behavior patterns among profiles. Among them, profiles with social interaction, test, and reviewing feedback behavior had a significantly higher score for self-efficacy than those patterns mainly based on test learning and resource visits. This finding provides a unified consideration of students' diverse profiles and can inform interventions for effective design of AR-assisted science learning to match appropriate strategies to facilitate the science learning effect.

We describe an apparatus for investigating the excited-state dissociation dynamics of mass-selected ion-molecule clusters by mass-resolving and detecting photofragment-ions and neutrals, in coincidence, using an ultrafast laser operating at high repetition rates. The apparatus comprises a source that generates ion-molecule clusters, a time-of-flight spectrometer, and a mass filter that selects the desired anions, and a linear-plus-quadratic reflectron mass spectrometer that discriminates the fragment anions after the femtosecond laser excites the clusters. The fragment neutrals and anions are then captured by two channeltron detectors. The apparatus performance is tested by measuring the photofragments: I-, CF3I-, and neutrals from photoexcitation of the ion-molecule cluster CF3I·I- using femtosecond UV laser pulses with a wavelength of 266 nm. The experimental results are compared with our ground state and excited state electronic structure calculations as well as the existing results and calculations, with particular attention to the generation mechanism of the anion fragments and dissociation channels of the ion-molecule cluster CF3I·I- in the charge-transfer excited state.

Collagen, as a commercial functional protein, is widely applied in food, cosmetics, biomedicine and other industries, and swim bladder is regarded as an ideal source of raw materials due to its rich collagen content. Chu’s croaker (Nibea coibor), as an economical fish that can produce high-grade swim bladder, is popularly farmed, however, its high fishmeal demand limits the development of the feed industry. Therefore, it is worth thinking about how to reduce the use of fish meal without affecting the swim bladder quality. Given that, an 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of fish meal partially replaced (0.0%, 5.0%, 10.0%, 15.0%, 20.0%) with composite proteins (CPs, consisted of corn protein meal and hydrolyzed feather meal) on growth, antioxidant capacity and swim bladder quality (texture and collagen deposition) of chu’s croaker. Results showed that although growth performance decrease with the increase of CPs’ replacement level, it did not compromise the swim bladder quality. Specifically, 5% - 10% CPs did not affect the growth significantly, but can improve antioxidant capacity, protein content, collagen synthesis and texture quality of swim bladder. The enhancement of swim bladder texture, including hardness, chewiness, springiness, and adhesiveness may be caused by changes in the expression of related genes, such as colga1t1, col12a1, cyp27a1, etc. These results indicated that appropriate fish meal replaced by CPs could be applied during aquaculture practice after comprehensive consideration of feed cost, growth rate and quality of swim bladder. This study provides support for the development of cost-effective feed formulations that improve the sustainability and economic viability of chu’s croaker culture.

The postseismic deformation following the April 2019 Mw 6.2 Hualien earthquake presents an unique opportunity to investigate the mechanisms by which the northern section of the Longitudinal Valley accommodates lithospheric deformation. We apply a variational Bayesian independent component analysis approach to displacement time-series to infer a 6-month long afterslip. Kinematic inversion shows that displacements are well explained by widespread afterslip (∼60 km in the along-strike direction) with limited slip (≤0.1 m) surrounding the coseismic slip area. The total geodetic moment relieved by afterslip (M0 ∼ 4.6 × 1018 Nm, i. e., Mw ∼ 6.4) is twice as large as the mainshock seismic moment, which represents a rare exception of a moderate magnitude event for which the afterslip moment exceeds that of the seismic moment. Then, combining geodetic and seismological analysis, we infer that afterslip is the dominant mechanism of near-to intermediate-field postseismic deformation and also likely represents the driving force that controls aftershock productivity and the spatiotemporal migration of seismicity. Besides, the fault zone frictional stability parameter a-b of rate-and-state dependent friction (a-b ∼ 0.0067–0.02) is comparable with previous estimates in the Longitudinal Valley. Finally, the study demonstrates that the northern Longitudinal Valley region hosts complex seismogenic structures that display a variety of slip behaviors.

Amorphous-dominated magnesium oxide hollow spheres (A-MgO) were prepared using a spray-drying method in this study. These hollow spheres exhibited excellent sphericity, large specific surface areas, and abundant porosity. A-MgO exhibited outstanding fluoride adsorption properties, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 260.4 mg/g. When the pH value was less than 8, the fluoride removal percentage remained more than 87.4%. Moreover, the removal percentage remained above 75% even after five application cycles. In addition, the research revealed that SO42−, CO32−, and PO43− exerted a more pronounced effect on fluoride removal, whereas coexisting ions such as Br−, Cl−, NO3−, and HCO3− had minimal impact on this process. An in-depth analysis of the adsorption mechanism demonstrated that the process of fluoride adsorption by A-MgO involves various synergistic mechanisms, such as electrostatic adsorption, ion exchange, oxygen vacancy adsorption, physical adsorption, and pore filling. To predict the fluoride ion adsorption performance of A-MgO under complex conditions, a high-performance machine learning model, GBDT-S, was developed using hyperparameter optimization. The R2 of 0.99 and 0.80 for the training and testing datasets, respectively, with the RMSE of 3.26 and 3.89. Abstract This study aimed to establish a predictive model for the risk of post-thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) post-implantation syndrome (PIS) in type B aortic dissection (TBAD) patients, assisting clinical physicians in early risk stratification and decision management for high-risk PIS patients. This study retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 547 consecutive TBAD patients who underwent TEVAR treatment at our hospital. Feature variables were selected through LASSO regression and logistic regression analysis to construct a nomogram predictive model, and the model's performance was evaluated. The optimal cutoff value for the PIS risk nomogram score was calculated through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, further dividing patients into high-risk group (HRG) and low-risk group (LRG), and comparing the short to midterm postoperative outcomes between the two groups. In the end, a total of 158 cases (28.9%) experienced PIS. Through LASSO regression analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis, variables including age, emergency surgery, operative time, contrast medium volume, and number of main prosthesis stents were selected to construct the nomogram predictive model. The model achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.86 in the training set and 0.82 in the test set. Results from calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA) and clinical impact curve (CIC) demonstrated that the predictive model exhibited good performance and clinical utility. Furthermore, after comparing the postoperative outcomes of HRG and LRG patients, we found that the incidence of postoperative PIS significantly increased in HRG patients. The duration of ICU stay and mechanical assistance time was prolonged, and the incidence of postoperative type II entry flow and acute kidney injury (AKI) was higher. The risk of aortic-related adverse events (ARAEs) and major adverse events (MAEs) at the first and twelfth months of follow-up also significantly increased. However, there was no significant difference in the mortality rate during hospitalization. This study established a nomogram model for predicting the risk of PIS in patients with TBAD undergoing TEVAR. It serves as a practical tool to assist clinicians in early risk stratification and decision-making management for patients.

Abstract Optical chemical structure recognition (OCSR) is a fundamental and crucial task in the field of chemistry, which aims at transforming intricate chemical structure images into machine-readable formats. Current deep learning-based OCSR methods typically use image feature extractors to extract visual features and employ encoder-decoder architectures for chemical structure recognition. However, the performance of these methods is limited by their image feature extractors and the class imbalance of elements in chemical structure representation. This paper proposes MPOCSR (multi-path optical chemical structure recognition), which introduces the multi-path Vision Transformer (MPViT) and the class-balanced (CB) loss function to address these two challenges. MPOCSR uses MPViT as an image feature extractor, combining the advantages of convolutional neural networks and Vision Transformers. This strategy enables the provision of richer visual information for subsequent decoding processes. Furthermore, MPOCSR incorporates CB loss function to rebalance the loss weights among different categories. For training and validation of our method, we constructed a dataset that includes both Markush and non-Markush structures. Experimental results show that MPOCSR achieves an accuracy of 90.95% on the test set, surpassing other existing methods.

Abstract Camellia crapnelliana Tutch., belonging to the Theaceae family, is an excellent landscape tree species with high ornamental values. It is particularly an important woody oil-bearing plant species with high ecological, economic, and medicinal values. Here, we first report the chromosome-scale reference genome of C. crapnelliana with integrated technologies of SMRT, Hi-C and Illumina sequencing platforms. The genome assembly had a total length of ~2.94 Gb with contig N50 of ~67.5 Mb, and ~96.34% of contigs were assigned to 15 chromosomes. In total, we predicted 37,390 protein-coding genes, ~99.00% of which could be functionally annotated. The chromosome-scale genome of C. crapnelliana will become valuable resources for understanding the genetic basis of the fatty acid biosynthesis, and greatly facilitate the exploration and conservation of C. crapnelliana.

Abstract The age, creatinine, and ejection fraction (ACEF) score has been accepted as a predictor of poor outcome in elective operations. This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of ACEF score in acute type A aortic dissection (AAAD) patients after total arch replacement. A total of 227 AAAD patients from July 2021 and June 2022 were enrolled and divided into Tertiles 1 (ACEF ≤ 0.73), Tertiles 2 (0.73 0.95). Using inverse probability processing weighting (IPTW) to balance the baseline characteristics and compare the outcomes. Cox logistic regression was used to further evaluate the survival prediction ability of ACEF score. The in-hospital mortality was 9.8%. After IPTW, in the baseline characteristics reached an equilibrium, a higher ACEF score before operation still associated with higher in-hospital mortality. After 1 year follow-up, 184 patients (90.6%) survival. Multivariable analysis revealed that ACEF score (adjusted hazard ratio 1.68; 95% confidence interval 1.34–4.91; p = 0.036) and binary ACEF score (adjusted HR 2.26; 95% CI 1.82–6.20; p

Abstract We show that the recent construction of N f = 1 baryons on the η′ domain wall can be understood as vortexes of the principal effective theory — the Chern-Simons-Higgs theory — on a 2+1-dimensional sheet. This theory has a series of vortex solutions, and the vortex with unit topological charge naturally spins N c /2, which coincides with the spin of the one-flavor baryon in QCD. Since the N c scaling of the vortexes is the same as that of baryons, the latter can be regarded as the former. By virtue of the particle-vortex symmetry, the dual Zhang-Hansson-Kivelson theory indicates that the quark carries topological charge 1/N c and obeys fractional statistics. The generalization to arbitrary N f is also discussed.
