The objective of this work was to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of the fine National flavor cocoa beans and CCN 51 from Ecuador, as well as, ICS 6 and CCN 51 from Peru for the production of quality chocolate. They were determined, cacao bean index (g), cacao bean testa percentage, cacao bean dimensions (mm), porosity (%), fermentation index (%), whiteness index, acidity (%), pH and proximate analysis (%), using AOAC methods and the usual ones for cacao quality. According to proximate analysis: the average crude protein content for Peruvian cacao bean was 78.8% higher, the average crude fat content for Ecuador cacao bean was 10.1% higher, the crude fiber of ICS 6 cacao bean stands out among the other cocoa beans with 7.10 ± 0.28%, other components have a degree of similarity between the two countries, so both are suitable to be worked in the production of high quality chocolate, due to its chemical and sensory attributes, generating a quality and competitive product internationally, certifying interest from other latitudes drive the export process and economic benefit for each nation., El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar las propiedades físicas y químicas de los granos de cacao Nacional fino de aroma y CCN 51 procedentes de Ecuador, así como ICS 6 y CCN 51 originarios de Perú para la elaboración de chocolate de calidad. Se determinaron índice de grano (g), porcentaje de testa, dimensiones de grano (mm), porosidad (%), índice de fermentación (%), índice de blancura, acidez (%), pH y análisis proximal (%), y se utilizaron los métodos AOAC y los usuales en calidad del cacao. Referente al análisis proximal: el contenido de proteína cruda promedio del cacao peruano fue 78.8% superior; el contenido de grasa cruda promedio del cacao de Ecuador fue 10.1% superior; el contenido de fibra cruda del cacao ICS 6 peruano destaca entre los demás granos de cacao con 7.10 ± 0.28%. Los demás componentes tienen un grado de similitud entre ambos países, por lo que ambos son aptos para ser utilizados en la producción de chocolate de alta calidad, debido a sus atributos químicos y sensoriales, lo cual genera un producto de calidad y competitivo a escala internacional, reafirma el interés desde otras latitudes, impulsa el proceso de exportación y el beneficio económico para cada nación.

The main objective of the research was to determine the deficiencies of the current situation of the Peruvian cocoa value chain and pose an integral improvement in its proposals through the competitive factors in question. In order to achieve it, these tools were used: the analysis of the value chain and the analysis of Porter's competitive diamond. The analysis of the value chain allowed a complete ‘photograph’ of those who have participated, how, with what interests and their interrelations, allowing to visualize the needs and potential of the different actors for individual and joint improvement. In the analysis of Porter's competitive diamond, the components of the cocoa sector were interrelated. The improvements in the value chain were: the result of the linkage of the strategy, the structure and the rivalry between the companies of the sector, the condition of the factors, the conditions of the demand, and the related and support sectors or cluster, which are activities linked between the companies involved in a cocoa sector; all of them fundamental to achieve competitive advantage; that will reduce the gap of the different links turned into competitive factors, to give rise to the development of capacities and to generate exportable supply of cocoa in different niche markets, which, to date, is around 100 000 tons. The operations of agricultural production, post-harvest and transformation requires substantial improvements to avoid non-quality costs and the low retribution of the value of cocoa to the farmer. From the problems encountered, a set of strategic guidelines is derived in the short, medium and long term, projecting a competitive chain for the future, such as positioning by ‘differentiation’, aimed at producing fine cocoa or aroma cocoa, organic cocoa and innovation in products with Peruvian cocoa., La investigación tuvo como objetivo principal determinar las deficiencias de la situación actual de la cadena de valor del cacao peruano, y plantear propuestas de mejora integrales en la misma, a través de los factores competitivos en cuestión. Para ello se utilizaron como herramientas: el análisis de la cadena de valor y el análisis del diamante competitivo de Porter. El análisis de la cadena de valor, permitió una “fotografía” completa de quienes han participado, de qué manera, con qué intereses, sus interrelaciones, visualizando las necesidades y potencialidades de los diferentes actores para el mejoramiento individual y en conjunto. En el análisis del diamante competitivo de Porter se interrelacionaron los componentes del sector del cacao. Las mejoras en la cadena de valor fueron: el resultado de la vinculación de la estrategia, la estructura y la rivalidad entre las compañías del sector, la condición de los factores, las condiciones de la demanda, y los sectores conexos y de apoyo o clúster, que son actividades ligadas entre las empresas que participan en un sector del cacao; todas fundamentales para alcanzar la ventaja competitiva; que van a reducir la brecha de los diferentes eslabones convertidos en factores competitivos, para dar lugar al desarrollo de capacidades y generar oferta exportable de cacao en diferentes nichos de mercado, que a la fecha está alrededor de 100000 toneladas aproximadamente. Las operaciones de producción agrícola, pos cosecha y transformación requieren mejoras sustanciales para evitar costos de no calidad y la baja retribución del valor del cacao hacia el agricultor. De los problemas encontrados se derivan un conjunto de lineamientos estratégicos en el corto, mediano y largo plazo, proyectando para el futuro una cadena competitiva, como el posicionamiento por “diferenciación”, direccionada a producir cacao fino o de aroma, cacao orgánico e innovación en productos con cacao peruano.

The use of pozzolans is one of the main strategies of the cement industry to reduce the CO2 emissions; however, one barrier to increase the use of pozzolans is the local availability. Rapid pozzolanic evaluation methods can facilitate the search for new pozzolanic materials and their quality control. The pozzolanic activities of eleven materials which include two class f fly ash, two silica fumes, metakaolin, ground granulated blast furnace slag, ground glass, sugar cane bagasse ash and three natural pozzolans were evaluated with two types of ordinary Portland cement and calcium hydroxide (CH). The strength activity index (mortar mixtures at 7 and 28 days of age), the Chapelle test (10.57 g/L CH and 4 g/L pozzolan suspension at 80 °C for 16 h), chemical shrinkage (cement pastes with 10 or 20% of pozzolan at 60 °C for 3 days) and a proposed electrical conductivity method (800 mg/L CH and 302.7 mg/L pozzolan suspension) were compared. Simple and multivariable linear regression analysis were employed to identify possible correlations between methods and physicochemical characteristics of materials. Only a significant correlation (R2=0.84) was found between the CH consumption of Chapelle and the loss of conductivity of conductivity tests. El plasmocitoma testicular es una neoplasia de células plasmáticas muy poco frecuente. Generalmente se trata de un hallazgo de autopsia carente de expresión clínica, aunque en algunas ocasiones puede constituir una manifestación de un mieloma múltiple y más excepcionalmente ser su única localización. La afectación bilateral es extremadamente infrecuente. Presentamos el caso de un varón de 58 años con mieloma múltiple en remisión que acude a consulta de urología por aumento progresivo del tamaño testicular bilateral. Tras realización de ecografía y PAAF testicular se diagnostica un plasmocitoma testicular bilateral. El tratamiento incluye cirugía (orquiectomía), radio y quimioterapia. El pronóstico de los pacientes depende de si se trata de un caso de plasmocitoma testicular solitario o con mieloma múltiple asociado. Testicular plasmacytoma is a very unfrequent plasma cells neoplasm. It is usually an incidental autopsy finding devoid of clinical expression, but it presents sometimes as part of a multiple myeloma and is exceptionally its only location. Bilateral involvement is extremely unfrequent. We report the case of a 58 years old man diagnosed with multiple myeloma in complete remission who complains about progressive enlargement of both testicles. After ultrasonography and PAAF, bilateral testicular plasmacytoma is diagnosed. Treatment includes surgery (orchiectomy), radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Prognostic is worse when multiple myeloma is associated.

Objetivo: El Tumor Fibroso Solitario (TFS) es una neoplasia poco frecuente que fue descrita por primera vez en la pleura, pero puede aparecer en diferentes localizaciones. Su presencia en la zona inguinal es extremadamente rara. Método/Resultados: Presentamos el caso de un varón de 74 años con masa inguinoescrotal derecha de 50 años de evolución. Tras extirpación quirúrgica de la misma es diagnosticado de tumor fibroso solitario. Conclusiones: La inmensa mayoría de los tumores fibrosos solitarios se comportan de manera benigna. Un pequeño porcentaje se comporta de modo más agresivo, con recurrencia local y metástasis. Su tratamiento es eminentemente quirúrgico, pero después debemos realizar seguimiento a largo plazo en todos los casos. Objective: Solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) are rare neoplasias that were first reported in pleura, but can occur in different sites. Inguinal location is extremely rare. Methods/Results: We report one case of a 74 year old man with a right inguinoscrotal mass with 50 years of evolution. After surgical extirpation, solitary fibrous tumour was diagno-sed. Conclusions: The vast majority of solitary fibrous tu-mours (SFTs) have a benign course. Only a few cases have aggressive behaviour, with local recurrence and metastasis. Treatment is surgical, but we must do a long-term follow up in all cases.
