Abstract: The multiplicities of positive and negative pions, kaons and unidentified hadrons produced in deep-inelastic scattering are measured in bins of the Bjorken scaling variable $x$, the relative virtual-photon energy $y$ and the fraction of the virtual-photon energy transferred to the final-state hadron $z$. Data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam of both electric charges and a liquid hydrogen target. These measurements cover the kinematic domain with photon virtuality $Q^2 > 1$ (GeV/$c)^2$, $0.004 < x < 0.4$, $0.1 < y < 0.7$ and $0.2 < z < 0.85$, in accordance with the kinematic domain used in earlier published COMPASS multiplicity measurements with an isoscalar target. The calculation of radiative corrections was improved by using the Monte Carlo generator DJANGOH, which results in up to 12\% larger corrections in the low-$x$ region., Comment: 19 pages, 29 figures

Abstract: New results are presented on a high-statistics measurement of Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons produced in deep inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarised $^6$LiD target. The data were taken in 2022 with the COMPASS spectrometer using the 160 \gevv\ muon beam at CERN, balancing the existing data on transversely polarised proton targets. The first results from about two-thirds of the new data have total uncertainties smaller by up to a factor of three compared to the previous deuteron measurements. Using all the COMPASS proton and deuteron results, both the transversity and the Sivers distribution functions of the $u$ and $d$ quark, as well as the tensor charge in the measured $x$-range are extracted. In particular, the accuracy of the $d$ quark results is significantly improved.

Abstract: The COMPASS Collaboration performed measurements of the Drell-Yan process in 2015 and 2018 using a 190 GeV/c $\pi^{-}$ beam impinging on a transversely polarised ammonia target. Combining the data of both years, we present final results on the amplitudes of the five azimuthal modulations in the dimuon production cross section. Three of these transverse-spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetries (TSAs) probe the nucleon leading-twist Sivers, transversity, and pretzelosity transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs). The other two are induced by subleading effects. These TSAs provide unique new inputs for the study of the nucleon TMD PDFs and their universality properties. In particular, the Sivers TSA observed in this measurement is consistent with the fundamental QCD prediction of a sign change of naive time-reversal-odd TMD PDFs when comparing the Drell-Yan process with semi-inclusive measurements of deep inelastic scattering. Also, within the context of model predictions, the observed transversity TSA is consistent with the expectation of a sign change for the Boer-Mulders function.

5. On various Carleson-type geometric lemmas and uniform rectifiability in metric spaces

Abstract: We introduce new flatness coefficients, which we call \emph{$\iota$-numbers}, for Ahlfors regular sets in metric spaces. We investigate the relation between Carleson-type geometric lemmas for $\iota$-numbers and other concepts related to quantitative rectifiability. We characterize uniform $1$-rectifiability in rather general metric spaces, and uniform $k$-rectfiability in Euclidean spaces, using $\iota$-numbers. The characterization of uniform $1$-rectifiability in the metric setting proceeds by quantifying an isometric embedding theorem due to Menger, and by an abstract argument that allows to pass from a local covering by continua to a global covering by $1$-regular connected sets. The Euclidean result, on the other hand, is a consequence of an abstract statement about approximation by generalized planes, which applies also to the study of low-dimensional sets in Heisenberg groups.

Abstract: For $0 \leq s \leq 1$ and $0 \leq t \leq 3$, a set $F \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ is called a circular $(s,t)$-Furstenberg set if there exists a family of circles $\mathcal{S}$ of Hausdorff dimension $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} \mathcal{S} \geq t$ such that $$\dim_{\mathrm{H}} (F \cap S) \geq s, \qquad S \in \mathcal{S}.$$ We prove that if $0 \leq t \leq s \leq 1$, then every circular $(s,t)$-Furstenberg set $F \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ has Hausdorff dimension $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} F \geq s + t$. 7. Kakeya maximal inequality in the Heisenberg group

Abstract: We define the Heisenberg Kakeya maximal functions $M_{\delta}f$, $0<\delta<1$, by averaging over $\delta$-neighborhoods of horizontal unit line segments in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^1$ equipped with the Kor\'{a}nyi distance $d_{\mathbb{H}}$. We show that $$ \|M_{\delta}f\|_{L^3(S^1)}\leq C(\varepsilon)\delta^{-1/3-\varepsilon}\|f\|_{L^3(\mathbb{H}^1)},\quad f\in L^3(\mathbb{H}^1),$$ for all $\varepsilon>0$. The proof is based on a recent variant, due to Pramanik, Yang, and Zahl, of Wolff's circular maximal function theorem for a class of planar curves related to Sogge's cinematic curvature condition. As an application of our Kakeya maximal inequality, we recover the sharp lower bound for the Hausdorff dimension of Heisenberg Kakeya sets of horizontal unit line segments in $(\mathbb{H}^1,d_{\mathbb{H}})$, first proven by Liu., Comment: 17 pages

Abstract: The production of vector mesons in deep inelastic scattering is an interesting yet scarsely explored channel to study the transverse spin structure of the nucleon and the related phenomena. The COMPASS collaboration has performed the first measurement of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for inclusively produced $\rho^0$ mesons. The analysis is based on the data set collected in deep inelastic scattering in $2010$ using a $160\,\,\rm{GeV}/c$ $\mu^+$ beam impinging on a transversely polarized $\rm{NH}_3$ target. The $\rho^{0}$ mesons are selected from oppositely charged hadron pairs, and the asymmetries are extracted as a function of the Bjorken-$x$ variable, the transverse momentum of the pair and the fraction of the energy $z$ carried by the pair. Indications for positive Collins and Sivers asymmetries are observed.

Abstract: We report on a measurement of Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) in hard exclusive $\rho ^0$ meson muoproduction at COMPASS using 160~GeV/$c$ polarised $ \mu ^{+}$ and $ \mu ^{-}$ beams impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. The measurement covers the kinematic range 5.0~GeV/$c^2$ $< W <$ 17.0~GeV/$c^2$, 1.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< Q^2 <$ 10.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ and 0.01 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ $< p_{\rm{T}}^2 <$ 0.5 (GeV/$c$)$^2$. Here, $W$ denotes the mass of the final hadronic system, $Q^2$ the virtuality of the exchanged photon, and $p_{\rm{T}}$ the transverse momentum of the $\rho ^0$ meson with respect to the virtual-photon direction. The measured non-zero SDMEs for the transitions of transversely polarised virtual photons to longitudinally polarised vector mesons ($\gamma^*_T \to V^{ }_L$) indicate a violation of $s$-channel helicity conservation. Additionally, we observe a dominant contribution of natural-parity-exchange transitions and a very small contribution of unnatural-parity-exchange transitions, which is compatible with zero within experimental uncertainties. The results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). In particular, they may allow one to evaluate in a model-dependent way the role of parton helicity-flip GPDs in exclusive $\rho ^0$ production.

10. A note on Kakeya sets of horizontal and $SL(2)$ lines

Abstract: We consider unions of $SL(2)$ lines in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. These are lines of the form $$L = (a,b,0) + \mathrm{span}(c,d,1),$$ where $ad - bc = 1$. We show that if $\mathcal{L}$ is a Kakeya set of $SL(2)$ lines, then the union $\cup \mathcal{L}$ has Hausdorff dimension $3$. This answers a question of Wang and Zahl. The $SL(2)$ lines can be identified with horizontal lines in the first Heisenberg group, and we obtain the main result as a corollary of a more general statement concerning unions of horizontal lines. This statement is established via a point-line duality principle between horizontal and conical lines in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$, combined with recent work on restricted families of projections to planes, due to Gan, Guo, Guth, Harris, Maldague, and Wang. Our result also has a corollary for Nikodym sets associated with horizontal lines, which answers a special case of a question of Kim., Comment: 7 pages

11. Vertical projections in the Heisenberg group via cinematic functions and point-plate incidences

Abstract: Let $\{\pi_{e} \colon \mathbb{H} \to \mathbb{W}_{e} : e \in S^{1}\}$ be the family of vertical projections in the first Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}$. We prove that if $K \subset \mathbb{H}$ is a Borel set with Hausdorff dimension $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K \in [0,2] \cup \{3\}$, then $$ \dim_{\mathbb{H}} \pi_{e}(K) \geq \dim_{\mathbb{H}} K $$ for $\mathcal{H}^{1}$ almost every $e \in S^{1}$. This was known earlier if $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K \in [0,1]$. The proofs for $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K \in [0,2]$ and $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K = 3$ are based on different techniques. For $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K \in [0,2]$, we reduce matters to a Euclidean problem, and apply the method of cinematic functions due to Pramanik, Yang, and Zahl. To handle the case $\dim_{\mathbb{H}} K = 3$, we introduce a point-line duality between horizontal lines and conical lines in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. This allows us to transform the Heisenberg problem into a point-plate incidence question in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$. To solve the latter, we apply a Kakeya inequality for plates in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$, due to Guth, Wang, and Zhang. 12. $0\nu\beta\beta$ to the first $2^+$ state with two-nucleon mechanism for L-R symmetric model

Abstract: We develop the formalism for calculating the decay rate of neutrinoless double beta decay to the $2^+$ excited states within L-R symmetric model. We consider the effects from induced hadronic currents up to NLO. The QRPA method in a spherical basis is adopted for the nuclear many-body calculation and the corresponding nuclear matrix elements are given. Also, the phase space factors are obtained with numerical electron wave functions. Our results suggest that the nuclear matrix elements are nucleus dependent and they are generally smaller than that of the decay to the ground states. Abstract: We present the study of the production of double $J/\psi$ mesons using COMPASS data collected with a 190 GeV/$c$ $\pi^-$ beam scattering off NH$_{3}$, Al and W targets. Kinematic distributions of the collected double $J/\psi$ events are analysed, and the double $J/\psi$ production cross section is estimated for each of the COMPASS targets. The results are compared to predictions from single- and double-parton scattering models as well as the pion intrinsic charm and the tetraquark exotic resonance hypotheses. It is demonstrated that the single parton scattering production mechanism gives the dominant contribution that is sufficient to describe the data. An upper limit on the double intrinsic charm content of pion is evaluated. No significant signatures that could be associated with exotic tetraquarks are found in the double $J/\psi$ mass spectrum., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: We study the spin-exotic $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude in single-diffractive dissociation of 190 GeV$/c$ pions into $\pi^-\pi^-\pi^+$ using a hydrogen target and confirm the $\pi_1(1600) \to \rho(770) \pi$ amplitude, which interferes with a nonresonant $1^{-+}$ amplitude. We demonstrate that conflicting conclusions from previous studies on these amplitudes can be attributed to different analysis models and different treatment of the dependence of the amplitudes on the squared four-momentum transfer and we thus reconcile their experimental findings. We study the nonresonant contributions to the $\pi^-\pi^-\pi^+$ final state using pseudo-data generated on the basis of a Deck model. Subjecting pseudo-data and real data to the same partial-wave analysis, we find good agreement concerning the spectral shape and its dependence on the squared four-momentum transfer for the $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude and also for amplitudes with other $J^{PC}$ quantum numbers. We investigate for the first time the amplitude of the $\pi^-\pi^+$ subsystem with $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$ in the $3\pi$ amplitude with $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ employing the novel freed-isobar analysis scheme. We reveal this $\pi^-\pi^+$ amplitude to be dominated by the $\rho(770)$ for both the $\pi_1(1600)$ and the nonresonant contribution. We determine the $\rho(770)$ resonance parameters within the three-pion final state. These findings largely confirm the underlying assumptions for the isobar model used in all previous partial-wave analyses addressing the $J^{PC} = 1^{-+}$ amplitude.

Abstract: Based on the observation of sizeable target-transverse-spin asymmetries in single-hadron and hadron-pair production in Semi-Inclusive measurements of Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS), the chiral-odd transversity quark distribution functions $h_1^q$ are nowadays well established. Several possible channels to access these functions were originally proposed. One candidate is the measurement of the polarisation of $\Lambda$ hyperons produced in SIDIS off transversely polarised nucleons, where the transverse polarisation of the struck quark might be transferred to the final-state hyperon. In this article, we present the COMPASS results on the transversity-induced polarisation of $\Lambda$ and $\bar{\Lambda}$ hyperons produced in SIDIS off transversely polarised protons. Within the experimental uncertainties, no significant deviation from zero was observed. Abstract: This note concerns Loomis-Whitney inequalities in Heisenberg groups $\mathbb{H}^n$: $$|K| \lesssim \prod_{j=1}^{2n}|\pi_j(K)|^{\frac{n+1}{n(2n+1)}}, \qquad K \subset \mathbb{H}^n.$$ Here $\pi_{j}$, $j=1,\ldots,2n$, are the vertical Heisenberg projections to the hyperplanes $\{x_j=0\}$, respectively, and $|\cdot|$ refers to a natural Haar measure on either $\mathbb{H}^n$, or one of the hyperplanes. The Loomis-Whitney inequality in the first Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^1$ is a direct consequence of known $L^p$ improving properties of the standard Radon transform in $\mathbb{R}^2$. In this note, we show how the Loomis-Whitney inequalities in higher dimensional Heisenberg groups can be deduced by an elementary inductive argument from the inequality in $\mathbb{H}^1$. The same approach, combined with multilinear interpolation, also yields the following strong type bound: $$\int_{\mathbb{H}^n} \prod_{j=1}^{2n} f_j(\pi_j(p))\;dp\lesssim \prod_{j=1}^{2n} \|f_j\|_{\frac{n(2n+1)}{n+1}}$$ for all nonnegative measurable functions $f_1,\ldots,f_{2n}$ on $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. These inequalities and their geometric corollaries are thus ultimately based on planar geometry. Among the applications of Loomis-Whitney inequalities in $\mathbb{H}^n$, we mention the following sharper version of the classical geometric Sobolev inequality in $\mathbb{H}^n$: $$\|u\|_{\frac{2n+2}{2n+1}} \lesssim \prod_{j=1}^{2n}\|X_ju\|^{\frac{1}{2n}}, \qquad u \in BV(\mathbb{H}^n),$$ where $X_j$, $j=1,\ldots,2n$, are the standard horizontal vector fields in $\mathbb{H}^n$., Comment: 27 pages. 18. NMEs for $0\nu\beta\beta(0^+\rightarrow2^+)$ of two-nucleon mechanism for $^{76}$Ge

Abstract: In this work we present the first beyond closure calculation for the neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) of $^{76}$Ge to the first $2^+$ states of $^{76}$Se. The isospin symmetry restored Quasi-particle random phase approximation (QRPA) method with the CD-Bonn realistic force is adopted for the nuclear structure calculations. We analyze the structure of the two nucleon mechanism nuclear matrix elements, and estimate the uncertainties from the nuclear many-body calculations. We find $g_{pp}$ plays an important role for the calculations and if quenching is included, suppression for the transition matrix element $M_{\lambda}$ is found. Our results for the transition matrix elements are about one order of magnitude larger than previous projected Hatree-Fock-Boglyubov results with the closure approximation., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

19. Extensions and corona decompositions of low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs in Heisenberg groups

Abstract: This note concerns low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs, in the sense of Franchi, Serapioni, and Serra Cassano, in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$. For $1\leq k\leq n$, we show that every intrinsic $L$-Lipschitz graph over a subset of a $k$-dimensional horizontal subgroup $\mathbb{V}$ of $\mathbb{H}^n$ can be extended to an intrinsic $L'$-Lipschitz graph over the entire subgroup $\mathbb{V}$, where $L'$ depends only on $L$, $k$, and $n$. We further prove that $1$-dimensional intrinsic $1$-Lipschitz graphs in $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$, admit corona decompositions by intrinsic Lipschitz graphs with smaller Lipschitz constants. Abstract: Abstract Aim Nurse‐led care aims to optimize the discharge preparation with a focus on increasing patients' independency and self‐care abilities. This study compared patients' improvements of self‐care abilities and frequency of readmission rate between nurse‐led care and regular nursing care within the acute hospital setting. Design A quasi‐experimental design within a real‐world setting was used for this work. Methods We included a pool of 2501 patients from a control group (medically stable in usual care) and 420 patients from an intervention group (nurse‐led care). After propensity score matching, the study cohort consisted of 612 patients. Results From admission to discharge, nurse‐led care patients showed superior improvements of total self‐care abilities compared to usual care patients. In particular, we found improvements in the following categories: mobility, grooming and excretion. 21. How culture shapes choices related to fertility and mortality: Causal evidence at the Swiss language border

Abstract: Results from cultural evolutionary theory often suggest that social learning can lead cultural groups to differ markedly in the same environment. Put differently, cultural evolutionary processes can in principle stabilise behavioural differences between groups, which in turn could lead selection pressures to vary across cultural groups. Separating the effects of culture from other confounds, however, is often a daunting and sometimes intractable challenge for the working empiricist. To meet this challenge, we exploit a cultural border dividing Switzerland in ways that are independent of institutional, environmental and genetic variation. Using a regression discontinuity design, we estimate discontinuities at the border in terms of preferences related to fertility and mortality, the two basic components of genetic fitness. We specifically select six referenda related to health and fertility and analyse differences in the proportion of yes votes across municipalities on the two sides of the border. Our results show multiple discontinuities and thus indicate a potential role of culture in shaping stable differences between groups in preferences and choices related to individual health and fertility. These findings further suggest that at least one of the two groups, in order to uphold its cultural values, has supported policies that could impose fitness costs on individuals relative to the alternative policy under consideration.

Abstract: We report on a measurement of Spin Density Matrix Elements (SDMEs) in hard exclusive $\omega$ meson muoproduction on the proton at COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarised $ \mu ^{+}$ and $ \mu ^{-}$ beams impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. The measurement covers the range 5.0 GeV/$c^2$ $< W <$ 17.0 GeV/$c^2$, with the average kinematics $\langle Q^{2} \rangle=$ 2.1 (GeV/$c$)$^2$, $\langle W \rangle= 7.6$ GeV/$c^2$, and $\langle p^{2}_{\rm T} \rangle = 0.16$ (GeV/$c$)$^2$. Here, $Q^2$ denotes the virtuality of the exchanged photon, $W$ the mass of the final hadronic system and $p_T$ the transverse momentum of the $\omega$ meson with respect to the virtual-photon direction. The measured non-zero SDMEs for the transitions of transversely polarised virtual photons to longitudinally polarised vector mesons ($\gamma^*_T \to V_L$) indicate a violation of $s$-channel helicity conservation. Additionally, we observe a sizeable contribution of unnatural-parity-exchange (UPE) transitions that decreases with increasing $W$. The results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs). Abstract: The COMPASS experiment recently discovered a new isovector resonance-like signal with axial-vector quantum numbers, the $a_1(1420)$, decaying to $f_0(980)\pi$. With a mass too close to and a width smaller than the axial-vector ground state $a_1(1260)$, it was immediately interpreted as a new light exotic meson, similar to the $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states in the hidden-charm sector. We show that a resonance-like signal fully matching the experimental data is produced by the decay of the $a_1(1260)$ resonance into $K^\ast(\to K\pi)\bar{K}$ and subsequent rescattering through a triangle singularity into the coupled $f_0(980)\pi$ channel. The amplitude for this process is calculated using a new approach based on dispersion relations. The triangle-singularity model is fitted to the partial-wave data of the COMPASS experiment. Despite having less parameters, this fit shows a slightly better quality than the one using a resonance hypothesis and thus eliminates the need for an additional resonance in order to describe the data. We thereby demonstrate for the first time in the light-meson sector that a resonance-like structure in the experimental data can be described by rescattering through a triangle singularity, providing evidence for a genuine three-body effect., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

24. What Makes a Top-Performing Precision Medicine Search Engine? Tracing Main System Features in a Systematic Way

Abstract: From 2017 to 2019 the Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) held a challenge task on precision medicine using documents from medical publications (PubMed) and clinical trials. Despite lots of performance measurements carried out in these evaluation campaigns, the scientific community is still pretty unsure about the impact individual system features and their weights have on the overall system performance. In order to overcome this explanatory gap, we first determined optimal feature configurations using the Sequential Model-based Algorithm Configuration (SMAC) program and applied its output to a BM25-based search engine. We then ran an ablation study to systematically assess the individual contributions of relevant system features: BM25 parameters, query type and weighting schema, query expansion, stop word filtering, and keyword boosting. 25. $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay to first $2^+$ state with partial isospin symmetry restoration from spherical QRPA calculations

Abstract: With partially restored isospin symmetry, we calculate the nuclear matrix element for a special decay mode of $2\nu\beta\beta$ (two neutrino double beta decay) -- the decay to the first $2^+$ excited states. With the realistic CD-Bonn nuclear force, we analyze the dependence of the nuclear matrix elements on the iso-vector and iso-scalar parts of proton-neutron particle-particle interaction. The dependence on the different nuclear matrix element is observed and the results are explained. We also give the phase space factors with numerical electron wave functions and properly chosen excitation energies. Abstract: The $\bar{\rm p} $ over p multiplicity ratio is measured in deep-inelastic scattering for the first time using (anti-) protons carrying a large fraction of the virtual-photon energy, $z>0.5$. The data were obtained by the COMPASS Collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam impinging on an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2$ > 1 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W > 5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. The range in Bjorken-$x$ is restricted to $0.01 < x < 0.40$. Protons and antiprotons are identified in the momentum range $20 \div 60$ GeV/$c$. In the whole studied $z$-region, the $\bar{\rm p}$ over p multiplicity ratio is found to be below the lower limit expected from calculations based on leading-order perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD). Extending our earlier analysis of the K$^-$ over K$^+$ multiplicity ratio by including now events with larger virtual-photon energies, this ratio becomes closer to the expectation of next-to-leading order pQCD. 27. Planar incidences and geometric inequalities in the Heisenberg group

Abstract: We prove that if $P,\mathcal{L}$ are finite sets of $\delta$-separated points and lines in $\mathbb{R}^{2}$, the number of $\delta$-incidences between $P$ and $\mathcal{L}$ is no larger than a constant times $$|P|^{2/3}|\mathcal{L}|^{2/3} \cdot \delta^{-1/3}.$$ We apply the bound to obtain the following variant of the Loomis-Whitney inequality in the Heisenberg group: $$ |K| \lesssim |\pi_{x}(K)|^{2/3} \cdot |\pi_{y}(K)|^{2/3}, \qquad K \subset \mathbb{H}. $$ Here $\pi_{x}$ and $\pi_{y}$ are the vertical projections to the $xt$- and $yt$-planes, respectively, and $|\cdot|$ refers to natural Haar measure on either $\mathbb{H}$, or one of the planes. Finally, as a corollary of the Loomis-Whitney inequality, we deduce that $$ \|f\|_{4/3} \lesssim \sqrt{\|Xf\| \|Yf\| }, \qquad f \in BV(\mathbb{H}), $$ where $X,Y$ are the standard horizontal vector fields in $\mathbb{H}$. Abstract: Hadron leptoproduction in Semi-Inclusive measurements of Deep-Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) on unpolarised nucleons allows one to get information on the intrinsic transverse momentum of quarks in a nucleon and on the Boer-Mulders function through the measurement of azimuthal modulations in the cross section. These modulations were recently measured by the HERMES experiment at DESY on proton and deuteron targets, and by the COMPASS experiment using the CERN SPS muon beam and a $^6$LiD target. In both cases, the amplitudes of the $\cos\phi_h$ and $\cos 2\phi_h$ modulations show strong kinematic dependences for both positive and negative hadrons. It has been known since some time that the measured final-state hadrons in those SIDIS experiments receive a contribution from exclusive diffractive production of vector mesons, particularly important at large values of $z$, the fraction of the virtual photon energy carried by the hadron. In previous measurements of azimuthal asymmetries this contribution was not taken into account, because it was not known that it could distort the azimuthal modulations. Presently, a method to evaluate the contribution of the exclusive reactions to the azimuthal asymmetries measured by COMPASS has been developed. The subtraction of this contribution results in a better understanding of the kinematic effects, and the remaining non-zero $\cos 2\phi_h$ modulation gives indication for a non-zero Boer-Mulders effect., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: Let $\mathbb{H}$ be the first Heisenberg group, and let $k \in C^{\infty}(\mathbb{H} \, \setminus \, \{0\})$ be a kernel which is either odd or horizontally odd, and satisfies $$|\nabla_{\mathbb{H}}^{n}k(p)| \leq C_{n}\|p\|^{-1 - n}, \qquad p \in \mathbb{H} \, \setminus \, \{0\}, \, n \geq 0.$$ The simplest examples include certain Riesz-type kernels first considered by Chousionis and Mattila, and the horizontally odd kernel $k(p) = \nabla_{\mathbb{H}} \log \|p\|$. We prove that convolution with $k$, as above, yields an $L^{2}$-bounded operator on regular curves in $\mathbb{H}$. This extends a theorem of G. David to the Heisenberg group. As a corollary of our main result, we infer that all $3$-dimensional horizontally odd kernels yield $L^{2}$ bounded operators on Lipschitz flags in $\mathbb{H}$. This was known earlier for only one specific operator, the $3$-dimensional Riesz transform. Abstract: A set of measurements of azimuthal asymmetries in the production of pairs of identified hadrons in deep-inelastic scattering of muons on transversely polarised 6LiD (deuteron) and NH3 (proton) targets is presented. All available data collected in the years 2003–2004 and 2007/2010 with the COMPASS spectrometer using a muon beam of 160GeV/c at the CERN SPS were analysed. The asymmetries provide access to the transversity distribution functions via a fragmentation function that in principle may be independently obtained from e+e− annihilation data. Results are presented, discussed and compared to existing measurements as well as to model predictions. Asymmetries of π+π− pairs measured with the proton target as a function of the Bjorken scaling variable are sizeable in the range x>0.032, indicating non-vanishing transversity distribution and di-hadron interference fragmentation functions. As already pointed out by several authors, the small asymmetries of π+π− measured on the 6LiD target can be interpreted as indication for a cancellation of u and d-quark transversity distributions.

Abstract: The production of vector mesons in deep inelastic scattering is an interesting yet scarcely explored channel to study the transverse spin structure of the nucleon and the spin-dependence of fragmentation. The COMPASS collaboration has performed the first measurement of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for inclusively produced ρ0 mesons. The analysis is based on the data set collected in deep inelastic scattering in 2010 using a 160GeV/c μ+ beam impinging on a transversely polarized NH3 target. The ρ0 mesons are selected from oppositely charged hadron pairs, and the asymmetries are extracted as a function of the Bjorken-x variable, the transverse momentum of the pair and the fraction of the energy z carried by the pair. Indications for positive Collins and Sivers asymmetries are observed.

Abstract: A workable basis of quark configurations $s^3$, $s^2p$ and $sp^2$ at light front has been constructed to describe the high-$Q^2$ behavior of transition form factors and helicity amplitudes in the electroproduction of the lightest nucleon resonances, $N_{1/2^-}(1535)$ and $N_{1/2^+}(1440)$. High-quality data of the CLAS Collaboration are described in the framework of a model which takes into account mixing of the quark configurations and the hadron-molecular states. Abstract: A partial wave analysis of antiproton-proton annihilation data in flight at 900 $MeV/c$ into $\pi^0 \pi^0 \eta$ , $\pi^0 \eta \eta$ and $K^+ K^- \pi^0$ is presented. The data were taken at LEAR by the Crystal Barrel experiment in 1996. The three channels have been coupled together with $\pi\pi$-scattering isospin I=0 S- and D-wave as well as I=1 P-wave data utilizing the K-matrix approach. Analyticity is treated using Chew-Mandelstam functions. In the fit all ingredients of the K-matrix, including resonance masses and widths, were treated as free parameters. In spite of the large number of parameters, the fit results are in the ballpark of the values published by the Particle Data Group. In the channel $\pi^0 \pi^0 \eta$ a significant contribution of the spin exotic $I^G=1^-$ $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ $\pi_1$-wave with a coupling to $\pi^0 \eta$ is observed. Furthermore the contributions of $\phi(1020) \pi^0$ and $K^*(892)^\pm K^\mp$ in the channel $K^+ K^- \pi^0$ have been studied in detail. The differential production cross section for the two reactions and the spin-density-matrix elements for the $\phi(1020)$ and $K^*(892)^\pm$ have been extracted. No spin-alignment is observed for both vector mesons. The spin density matrix elements have been also determined for the spin exotic wave.

34. Metric rectifiability of $\mathbb{H}$-regular surfaces with H\'older continuous horizontal normal

Abstract: Two definitions for the rectfiability of hypersurfaces in Heisenberg groups $\mathbb{H}^n$ have been proposed: one based on $\mathbb{H}$-regular surfaces, and the other on Lipschitz images of subsets of codimension-$1$ vertical subgroups. The equivalence between these notions remains an open problem. Recent partial results are due to Cole-Pauls, Bigolin-Vittone, and Antonelli-Le Donne. This paper makes progress in one direction: the metric Lipschitz rectifiability of $\mathbb{H}$-regular surfaces. We prove that $\mathbb{H}$-regular surfaces in $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ with $\alpha$-H\"older continuous horizontal normal, $\alpha > 0$, are metric bilipschitz rectifiable. This improves on the work by Antonelli-Le Donne, where the same conclusion was obtained for $C^{\infty}$-surfaces. In $\mathbb{H}^{1}$, we prove a slightly stronger result: every codimension-$1$ intrinsic Lipschitz graph with an $\epsilon$ of extra regularity in the vertical direction is metric bilipschitz rectifiable. Abstract: Let $\alpha \geq 0$, $1 < p < \infty$, and let $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ be the Heisenberg group. Folland in 1975 showed that if $f \colon \mathbb{H}^{n} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a function in the horizontal Sobolev space $S^{p}_{2\alpha}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$, then $\varphi f$ belongs to the Euclidean Sobolev space $S^{p}_{\alpha}(\mathbb{R}^{2n + 1})$ for any test function $\varphi$. In short, $S^{p}_{2\alpha}(\mathbb{H}^{n}) \subset S^{p}_{\alpha,\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R}^{2n + 1})$. We show that the localisation can be omitted if one only cares for Sobolev regularity in the vertical direction: the horizontal Sobolev space $S_{2\alpha}^{p}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$ is continuously contained in the vertical Sobolev space $V^{p}_{\alpha}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$. Our search for the sharper result was motivated by the following two applications. First, combined with a short additional argument, it implies that bounded Lipschitz functions on $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ have a $\tfrac{1}{2}$-order vertical derivative in $\mathrm{BMO}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$. Abstract: We report on a measurement of hard exclusive $\pi^0$ muoproduction on the proton by COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarised $\mu^+$ and $\mu^-$ beams of the CERN SPS impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. From the average of the measured $\mu^+$ and $\mu^-$ cross sections, the virtual-photon proton cross section is determined as a function of the squared four-momentum transfer between initial and final proton in the range $0.08\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2 < |t| < 0.64\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2$. The average kinematics of the measurement are $\langle Q^2 \rangle =2.0\; {(\text{GeV}/c)^2}$, $\langle \nu \rangle = 12.8\; {\text{GeV}}$, $\langle x_{Bj} \rangle = 0.093 $ and $\langle -t \rangle = 0.256\; {(\text{GeV}/c)^2} $. Fitting the azimuthal dependence reveals a combined contribution by transversely and longitudinally polarised photons of $(8.1 \ \pm \ 0.9_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 1.0}^{+ \ 1.1}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$, as well as transverse-transverse and longitudinal-transverse interference contributions of $(-6.0 \pm 1.3_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 0.7}^{+ \ 0.7}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$ and $(1.4 \pm 0.5_{\text{stat}}{}_{- \ 0.2}^{+ \ 0.3}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\,{\text{nb}}/{(\text{GeV}/c)^{2}}$, respectively. Our results provide important input for modelling Generalised Parton Distributions. In the context of the phenomenological Goloskokov-Kroll model, the statistically significant transverse-transverse interference contribution constitutes clear experimental evidence for the chiral-odd GPD $\overline{E}_T$., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: A theorem of Dorronsoro from the 1980s quantifies the fact that real-valued Sobolev functions on Euclidean spaces can be approximated by affine functions almost everywhere, and at all sufficiently small scales. We prove a variant of Dorronsoro's theorem in Heisenberg groups: functions in horizontal Sobolev spaces can be approximated by affine functions which are independent of the last variable. As an application, we deduce new proofs for certain vertical vs. horizontal Poincar\'e inequalities for real-valued functions on the Heisenberg group, originally due to Austin-Naor-Tessera and Lafforgue-Naor., Comment: 16 pages

Abstract: This note is concerned with the geometric classification of connected Lie groups of dimension three or less, endowed with left-invariant Riemannian metrics. On the one hand, assembling results from the literature, we give a review of the complete classification of such groups up to quasi-isometries and we compare the quasi-isometric classification with the bi-Lipschitz classification. On the other hand, we study the problem whether two quasi-isometrically equivalent Lie groups may be made isometric if equipped with suitable left-invariant Riemannian metrics. We show that this is the case for three-dimensional simply connected groups, but it is not true in general for multiply connected groups. 39. Riesz transform and vertical oscillation in the Heisenberg group

Abstract: We study the $L^{2}$-boundedness of the $3$-dimensional (Heisenberg) Riesz transform on intrinsic Lipschitz graphs in the first Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}$. Inspired by the notion of vertical perimeter, recently defined and studied by Lafforgue, Naor, and Young, we first introduce new scale and translation invariant coefficients $\operatorname{osc}_{\Omega}(B(q,r))$. These coefficients quantify the vertical oscillation of a domain $\Omega \subset \mathbb{H}$ around a point $q \in \partial \Omega$, at scale $r > 0$. We then proceed to show that if $\Omega$ is a domain bounded by an intrinsic Lipschitz graph $\Gamma$, and $$\int_{0}^{\infty} \operatorname{osc}_{\Omega}(B(q,r)) \, \frac{dr}{r} \leq C < \infty, \qquad q \in \Gamma,$$ then the Riesz transform is $L^{2}$-bounded on $\Gamma$. As an application, we deduce the boundedness of the Riesz transform whenever the intrinsic Lipschitz parametrisation of $\Gamma$ is an $\epsilon$ better than $\tfrac{1}{2}$-H\"older continuous in the vertical direction. We also study the connections between the vertical oscillation coefficients, the vertical perimeter, and the natural Heisenberg analogues of the $\beta$-numbers of Jones, David, and Semmes. Abstract: The transverse spin asymmetries measured in semi-inclusive leptoproduction of hadrons, when weighted with the hadron transverse momentum $P_T$, allow for the extraction of important transverse-momentum-dependent distribution functions. In particular, the weighted Sivers asymmetries provide direct information on the Sivers function, which is a leading-twist distribution that arises from a correlation between the transverse momentum of an unpolarised quark in a transversely polarised nucleon and the spin of the nucleon. Using the high-statistics data collected by the COMPASS Collaboration in 2010 with a transversely polarised proton target, we have evaluated two types of $P_T$-weighted Sivers asymmetries, which are both proportional to the product of the firsttransverse moment of the Sivers function and of the fragmentation function. The results are compared to the standard unweighted Sivers asymmetries and used to extract the first transverse moments of the Sivers distributions for $u$ and $d$ quarks., Comment: 23 pages, 12 figures

42. Metric currents and the Poincar\'e inequality

Abstract: We show that a complete doubling metric space $(X,d,\mu)$ supports a weak $1$-Poincar\'e inequality if and only if it admits a pencil of curves (PC) joining any pair of points $s,t \in X$. This notion was introduced by S. Semmes in the 90's, and has been previously known to be a sufficient condition for the weak $1$-Poincar\'e inequality. Our argument passes through the intermediate notion of a generalised pencil of curves (GPC). A GPC joining $s$ and $t$ is a normal $1$-current $T$, in the sense of Ambrosio and Kirchheim, with boundary $\partial T = \delta_{t} - \delta_{s}$, support contained in a ball of radius $\sim d(s,t)$ around $\{s,t\}$, and satisfying $\|T\| \ll \mu$, with $$\frac{d\|T\|}{d\mu}(y) \lesssim \frac{d(s,y)}{\mu(B(s,d(s,y)))} + \frac{d(t,y)}{\mu(B(y,d(t,y)))}.$$ We show that the $1$-Poincar\'e inequality implies the existence of GPCs joining any pair of points in $X$. The revised $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay rate and differential characteristics depend on additional phase-space factors weighted by the ratios of $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay nuclear matrix elements with different powers of the energy denominator. For nuclei of experimental interest all phase-space factors are calculated by using exact Dirac wave functions with finite nuclear size and electron screening. For isotopes with measured $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay half-life the involved nuclear matrix elements are determined within the quasiparticle random phase approximation with partial isospin restoration. The importance of correction terms to the $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay rate due to Taylor expansion is established and the modification of shape of single and summed electron energy distributions is discussed. It is found that the improved calculation of the $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay predicts slightly suppressed $2\nu\beta\beta$-decay background to the neutrinoless double-beta decay signal. Abstract: The $\lambda$ mechanism ($W_L$-$W_R$ exchange) of the neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$-decay), which has origin in left-right symmetric model with right-handed gauge boson at TeV scale, is investigated. The revisited formalism of the $0\nu\beta\beta$-decay, which includes higher order terms of nucleon current, is exploited. The corresponding nuclear matrix elements are calculated within quasiparticle random phase approximation with partial restoration of the isospin symmetry for nuclei of experimental interest. A possibility to distinguish between the conventional light neutrino mass ($W_L$-$W_L$ exchange) and $\lambda$ mechanisms by observation of the $0\nu\beta\beta$-decay in several nuclei is discussed. A qualitative comparison of effective lepton number violating couplings associated with these two mechanisms is performed. By making viable assumption about the seesaw type mixing of light and heavy neutrinos with the value of Dirac mass $m_D$ within the range $1~ \textrm{MeV} < m_D < 1~ \textrm{GeV}$, it is concluded that there is a dominance of the conventional light neutrino mass mechanism in the decay rate., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: In this work, with restored isospin symmetry, we evaluated the neutrinoless double beta decay nuclear matrix elements for $^{76}$Ge, $^{82}$Se, $^{130}$Te, $^{136}$Xe and $^{150}$Nd for both the light and heavy neutrino mass mechanisms using the deformed QRPA approach with realistic forces. We give detailed decompositions of the nuclear matrix elements over different intermediate states and nucleon pairs, and discuss how these decompositions are affected by the model space truncations. Compared to the spherical calculations, our results show reductions from $30\%$ to about $60\%$ of the nuclear matrix elements for the calculated isotopes mainly due to the presence of BCS overlap factor between the initial and final ground states. The comparison between different nucleon-nucleon forces with corresponding Short-Range-Correlations (src) shows, that the choice of the NN force gives roughly $20\%$ deviations for light exchange neutrino mechanism and much larger deviations for the heavy neutrino exchange mechanism., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract: A Semmes surface in the Heisenberg group is a closed set $S$ that is upper Ahlfors-regular with codimension one and satisfies the following condition, referred to as Condition B. Every ball $B(x,r)$ with $x \in S$ and $0 < r < \operatorname{diam} S$ contains two balls with radii comparable to $r$ which are contained in different connected components of the complement of $S$. Analogous sets in Euclidean spaces were introduced by Semmes in the late $80$'s. We prove that Semmes surfaces in the Heisenberg group are lower Ahlfors-regular with codimension one and have big pieces of intrinsic Lipschitz graphs. Abstract: We have performed the most comprehensive resonance-model fit of $\pi^-\pi^-\pi^+$ states using the results of our previously published partial-wave analysis (PWA) of a large data set of diffractive-dissociation events from the reaction $\pi^- + p \to \pi^-\pi^-\pi^+ + p_\text{recoil}$ with a 190 GeV/$c$ pion beam. The PWA results, which were obtained in 100 bins of three-pion mass, $0.5 < m_{3\pi} < 2.5$ GeV/$c^2$, and simultaneously in 11 bins of the reduced four-momentum transfer squared, $0.1 < t' < 1.0$ $($GeV$/c)^2$, are subjected to a resonance-model fit using Breit-Wigner amplitudes to simultaneously describe a subset of 14 selected waves using 11 isovector light-meson states with $J^{PC} = 0^{-+}$, $1^{++}$, $2^{++}$, $2^{-+}$, $4^{++}$, and spin-exotic $1^{-+}$ quantum numbers. The model contains the well-known resonances $\pi(1800)$, $a_1(1260)$, $a_2(1320)$, $\pi_2(1670)$, $\pi_2(1880)$, and $a_4(2040)$. In addition, it includes the disputed $\pi_1(1600)$, the excited states $a_1(1640)$, $a_2(1700)$, and $\pi_2(2005)$, as well as the resonancelike $a_1(1420)$. We measure the resonance parameters mass and width of these objects by combining the information from the PWA results obtained in the 11 $t'$ bins. We extract the relative branching fractions of the $\rho(770) \pi$ and $f_2(1270) \pi$ decays of $a_2(1320)$ and $a_4(2040)$, where the former one is measured for the first time. In a novel approach, we extract the $t'$ dependence of the intensity of the resonances and of their phases. The $t'$ dependence of the intensities of most resonances differs distinctly from the $t'$ dependence of the nonresonant components. For the first time, we determine the $t'$ dependence of the phases of the production amplitudes and confirm that the production mechanism of the Pomeron exchange is common to all resonances., Comment: 224 pages, 172 figures

Abstract: We report on the first measurement of exclusive single-photon muoproduction on the proton by COMPASS using 160 GeV/$c$ polarized $\mu^+$ and $\mu^-$ beams of the CERN SPS impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. We determine the dependence of the average of the measured $\mu^+$ and $\mu^-$ cross sections for deeply virtual Compton scattering on the squared four-momentum transfer $t$ from the initial to the final final proton. The slope $B$ of the $t$-dependence is fitted with a single exponential function, which yields $B=(4.3 \ \pm \ 0.6_{\text{stat}}\_{- \ 0.3}^{+ \ 0.1}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}}) (\text{GeV}/c)^{-2}$. This result can be converted into an average transverse extension of partons in the proton, $\sqrt{\langle r_{\perp}^2 \rangle} = (0.58 \ \pm \ 0.04_{\text{stat}}\_{- \ 0.02}^{+ \ 0.01}\big\rvert_{\text{sys}})\text{fm}$. For this measurement, the average virtuality of the photon mediating the interaction is $\langle Q^2 \rangle = 1.8\,(\text{GeV/}c)^2$ and the average value of the Bjorken variable is $\langle x_{\text{Bj}} \rangle = 0.056$., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: The K$^{-}$ over K$^{+}$ multiplicity ratio is measured in deep-inelastic scattering, for the first time for kaons carrying a large fraction $z$ of the virtual-photon energy. The data were obtained by the COMPASS collaboration using a 160 GeV muon beam and an isoscalar $^6$LiD target. The regime of deep-inelastic scattering is ensured by requiring $Q^2>1$ (GeV/$c)^2$ for the photon virtuality and $W>5$ GeV/$c^2$ for the invariant mass of the produced hadronic system. Kaons are identified in the momentum range from 12 GeV/$c$ to 40 GeV/$c$, thereby restricting the range in Bjorken-$x$ to $0.010.75$. For very large values of $z$, $i.e.$ $z>0.8$, we observe the kaon multiplicity ratio to fall below the lower limits expected from calculations based on leading and next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Also, the kaon multiplicity ratio shows a strong dependence on the missing mass of the single-kaon production process. This suggests that within the perturbative quantum chromodynamics formalism an additional correction may be required, which takes into account the phase space available for hadronisation., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

50. Differential Flatness of Quadrotor Dynamics Subject to Rotor Drag for Accurate Tracking of High-Speed Trajectories

Abstract: In this paper, we prove that the dynamical model of a quadrotor subject to linear rotor drag effects is differentially flat in its position and heading. We use this property to compute feed-forward control terms directly from a reference trajectory to be tracked. The obtained feed-forward terms are then used in a cascaded, nonlinear feedback control law that enables accurate agile flight with quadrotors. Compared to state-of-the-art control methods, which treat the rotor drag as an unknown disturbance, our method reduces the trajectory tracking error significantly. Finally, we present a method based on a gradient-free optimization to identify the rotor drag coefficients, which are required to compute the feed-forward control terms. The new theoretical results are thoroughly validated trough extensive comparative experiments.
