Abstract

Solid oxide fuel cells are characterized by a high efficiency for converting chemical energy into electricity and fuel flexibility. This research work focuses on developing durable and efficient anodes for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) based on exsolving nickel from the perovskite structure. A-site-deficient La- and Ni-doped strontium titanates (La0.2Sr0.7Ti0.95Ni0.05O3−δ, LSTN) were synthesized using four different techniques and mixed with Ce0.8Gd0.2O2−δ (GDC) to form the SOFC anode. The synthesis routes of interest for comparison included solid-state, sol-gel, hydrothermal, and co-precipitation methods. LSTN powders were characterized via XRD, SEM, TPR, BET and XPS. In situ XRD during reduction was measured and the reduced powders were analyzed using TEM. The impact of synthesis route on SOFC performance was investigated. All samples were highly durable when kept at 0.5 V for 48 h at 800 °C with H2 fuel. Interestingly, the best performance was observed for the cell with the LSTN anode prepared via co-precipitation, while the conventional solid-state synthesis method only achieved the second-best results. Abstract

A novel methodology is developed for the evaluation of receptor arrangement in structurally flexible anion chemosensors and is applied to map the binding site of a new pseudocyclic tristhiourea chemosensor. The binding patterns are found to be different for the chemosensors, indicating dissimilarity in the arrangement of the binding sites of pseudocyclic tristhiourea chemosensor and macrocyclic chemosensor.

Abstract

A method of synthesizing stable chiral Ag nanoparticles inside a natural mucin glycoprotein is demonstrated. The reaction is carried out without the help of an external reducing agent, by utilizing the reducing properties of the host mucin. 23. Design of Coke-Free Methane Dry Reforming Catalysts by Molecular Tuning of Nitrogen-Rich Combustion Precursors.

Abstract

The valorization of methane and carbon dioxide is a promising solution for mitigating global warming. The dry reforming of methane (DRM) is capable of concomitant conversion of these greenhouse gases into starting materials for production of synthetic fuels, promoting a carbon-neutral avenue for fuel production. The development of efficient, stable, and economic catalysts presents a challenge owing to the comparatively rapid deactivation of DRM catalysts under reaction conditions. Here, Ni/La2O3DRM catalysts are prepared by combustion synthesis of Ni and La complexes of nitrogen-rich precursors. We expound the relationship between structures of the combustion precursors, the thermochemistry of their combustion, the structures of the resultant Ni/La2O3catalysts, and their performance under DRM conditions. We show that the best catalyst is derived from energetic precursor which have the sharpest exotherm and rapidly releases the largest amounts of nitrogen gas. These properties give rise to the crystallization of Ni/La2O3catalyst with high Ni dispersion and strong metal-support interactions. This work can act as starting point to expand the link between the chemistry of combustion precursors and the resulting catalyst properties, eventually realizing the rational design of high-performance catalysts prepared by combustion synthesis through tailoring the chemistry and structure of the nitrogen-rich precursors.

Abstract

The preparation and characterization of the stable human serum albumin (HSA)-C3 isomer of tris-malonic acid [C60]fullerene complex is reported. Other than the anti-fullerene antibody, a stable protein-fullerene complex with a native protein has never been observed. This study may provide valuable answers to the growing concern regarding the effects of carbonaceous nanomaterials on human health on one hand and, on the other, may lead to the development of novel antioxidant therapeutic agents, radiopharmaceuticals, and components for bioelectronic devices.
