- Abstract
Background: The emergence of SARS‐CoV‐2 in late 2019 saw the implementation of public health and social measures (PHSM) by countries across Europe to reduce its transmission and impact on populations. Consequently, countries reported changes in influenza circulation and extensive disruptions to routine surveillance systems.MethodsWe describe the epidemiology of influenza in Europe between Weeks 40/2020 and 39/2022 compared to the 2016/17 to 2019/20 seasons, to assess the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic and PHSM on surveillance systems and influenza circulation.ResultsLow detections of influenza were observed through primary care sentinel sources during seasonal influenza periods (Week 40 to 20); 56 (of 39,457 specimens tested; < 1% positivity) in 2020/21 and 7261 (of 64,153 specimens tested; 11% positivity) detections in 2021/22 were observed, compared to an average of 18,383 (of 50,544 specimens tested; 36% positivity) detections in 2016/17 to 2019/20. Similarly, 11 (of 19,989 specimens tested; < 1% positivity) and 1488 (of 23,636 specimens tested; 6% positivity) detections were reported through SARI surveillance sources in 2020/21 and 2021/22, respectively, compared to an average of 2850 (of 10,389 specimens tested; 27% positivity) detections in 2016/17 to 2019/20. However, the 2021/22 interseasonal period saw unusual increases in influenza detections across surveillance site types when PHSM were easing.ConclusionIn conclusion, findings suggest that the restriction and easing of PHSM measures were associated with variations in influenza detections. Our observations of out‐of‐season influenza activity highlight the importance of an integrated respiratory surveillance strategy to monitor circulating respiratory viruses throughout the year to inform optimal prevention and control strategies.

The article reviews two concepts of space organization - three-dimensional in the architecture of Mies van der Rohe and two-dimensional in the paintings of Kazimir Malevich. Common spatial features were identified between the two concepts, which formed the basis of a competition project on interaction between space and color: Mies van der Rohe: Color Discourse. The key characteristics of architecture and painting thus combined resulted in a spatial experiment on interaction between color and space with reference to the synthesis of K. Malevich’s suprematism and Mies van der Rohe’s architecture. This experimental project became not only a response to utilitarian demands, i.e. provision for emergency evacuation requirements, functional filling, vital needs, etc., but also a presentation of a way to form a ‘colorspace’ as a specific type of substance and to explore some aspects of its formation. The project illustrates the process of their interaction with each other and the creation of new spatial properties and perceptions of the architectural object’s internal space.

7. Molecular Periphery Design Allows Control of the New Nitrofurans Antimicrobial Selectivity.

A series of 13 new 3-substituted 5-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazoles was synthesized from different aminonitriles. All compounds were screened in the disc diffusion test at a 100 μg/mL concentration to determine the bacterial growth inhibition zone presence and diameter, and then the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined for the most active compounds by serial dilution. The compounds showed antibacterial activity against ESKAPE bacteria, predominantly suppressing the growth of 5 species out of the panel. Some compounds had similar or lower MICs against ESKAPE pathogens compared to ciprofloxacin, nitrofurantoin, and furazidin. In particular, 3-azetidin-3-yl-5-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole (2h) inhibited S. aureus at a concentration lower than all comparators. Compound 2e (5-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-3-[4-(pyrrolidin-3-yloxy)phenyl]-1,2,4-oxadiazole) was active against Gram-positive ESKAPE pathogens as well as M. tuberculosis. Differences in the molecular periphery led to high selectivity for the compounds. The induced-fit docking (IFD) modeling technique was applied to in silico research. Daylight has a significant impact on the perception of the building space. The term “lightspace” is introduced to determine phenomena of sensorial perception of architectural object’s indoor space and four different components of lightspace, such as functional, architectural and artistic, light-technical and visual, are considered. Further, three groups of architectural and artistic design techniques were estimated: based on space modeling (organisation of lightspaces in the building structure, organization of multi-light spaces, plasticity organization of lightspace, methods of natural light penetration through the shell of the building), light modeling (the distribution of light in space and its spectral composition), and time modeling (light dynamic, transformation of the building parts, movement of people in the place). Attention is drawn to relationship between diverse lightspace design techniques and architectural practice.

8 páginas, 3 figuras, We show the distribution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) genetic clades over time and between countries and outline potential genomic surveillance objectives. We applied three genomic nomenclature systems to all sequence data from the World Health Organization European Region available until 10 July 2020. We highlight the importance of real-time sequencing and data dissemination in a pandemic situation, compare the nomenclatures and lay a foundation for future European genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2., We gratefully acknowledge the authors, originating and submitting laboratories of the sequences from GISAID’s EpiCoV Database used in the phylogenetic analysis.
