RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo foi investigar as intersecções entre a agenda LGBTI+ e a bioética enquanto campo disciplinar. Esta pesquisa se baseou em análise qualitativa e revisão bibliográfica que englobam tópicos relacionados com bioética, estudos pós-coloniais, teoria queer, direitos humanos e relações internacionais. Por meio de reflexões sobre o contexto político e social que precedeu o surgimento da bioética, com enfoque na interpretação da sexualidade e na identidade de gênero durante os períodos coloniais e imperialistas, buscou-se compreender como as perspectivas históricas influenciaram a evolução da bioética. Além disso, pretendeu-se examinar a consolidação da bioética como um campo disciplinar e área de conhecimento científico, destacando a predominância do principialismo na segunda metade do século XX. Nesse sentido, analisou-se o potencial de uma abordagem feminista na bioética para enfrentar as desigualdades e opressões presentes em sua própria estrutura, com uma visão crítica e reflexiva. Por último, apresentou-se de que forma as contribuições epistemológicas da teoria queer podem subsidiar o desenvolvimento de uma bioética queer, a partir do Sul Global. Essas discussões visam ampliar a reflexão sobre as desigualdades e opressões enfrentadas pelas pessoas LGBTI+ enquanto grupo social no contexto da bioética.

Abstract Background The high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in low- and middle-income countries is linked to an increase in Western diet consumption, characterized by a high intake of processed foods, which impacts the levels of blood sugar and lipids, hormones, and cytokines. Hematophagous insect vectors, such as the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti, rely on blood meals for reproduction and development and are therefore exposed to the components of blood plasma. However, the impact of the alteration of blood composition due to malnutrition and metabolic conditions on mosquito biology remains understudied. Methods In this study, we investigated the impact of whole-blood alterations resulting from a Western-type diet on the biology of Ae. aegypti. We kept C57Bl6/J mice on a high-fat, high-sucrose (HFHS) diet for 20 weeks and followed biological parameters, including plasma insulin and lipid levels, insulin tolerance, and weight gain, to validate the development of metabolic syndrome. We further allowed Ae. aegypti mosquitoes to feed on mice and tracked how altered host blood composition modulated parameters of vector capacity. Results Our findings identified that HFHS-fed mice resulted in reduced mosquito longevity and increased fecundity upon mosquito feeding, which correlated with alteration in the gene expression profile of nutrient sensing and physiological and metabolic markers as studied up to several days after blood ingestion. Conclusions Our study provides new insights into the overall effect of alterations of blood components on mosquito biology and its implications for the transmission of infectious diseases in conditions where the frequency of Western diet-induced metabolic syndromes is becoming more frequent. These findings highlight the importance of addressing metabolic health to further understand the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses in endemic areas. Graphical Abstract

RESUMO Neste ensaio, aborda-se a interface entre gênero e direito por meio do recorte da inclusão social de pessoas trans e travestis e do caso da liberdade morfológica. Os objetivos são: i) apresentar um mapa conceitual e das lutas que configuram a questão trans no Brasil; ii) destacar a importância de propostas mais inclusivas de direitos, enfatizando a Perspectiva dos Funcionamentos (PdF); iii) inserir o debate em um campo de reflexão emergente, fomentando o interesse pelos estudos transumanistas, enfatizando a liberdade morfológica como um direito transumano. Após a apresentação de algumas das principais nuances da questão trans no Brasil, defende-se a necessidade de que o rol dos chamados concernidos morais seja ampliado, oferecendo uma perspectiva normativa a mais inclusiva possível. Com base na adoção da noção de sistemas funcionais, chama-se a atenção para o ganho de substituir a noção de direitos humanos pela de direitos básicos, apresentando a PdF. Finaliza-se apontando a concepção de direitos transumanos, que pode indicar uma ampliação tanto dos concernidos quanto das liberdades garantidas, destacando a liberdade morfológica, que parece fundamental para o exercício de uma incontornável dimensão da existência das pessoas trans e travestis.

Abstract Background Front-of-package warning labels (FOPWL) have been adopted in many countries aiming at reducing the consumption of unhealthy food and drink products and have also been considered in Guatemala. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of FOPWL versus Guidelines for Daily Amount (GDA) on products’ healthfulness perception (HP), purchase intention (PI) and the objective understanding of the nutrient content (UNC) in Guatemala. Methods Participants (children and adults) (n = 356) were randomly assigned to evaluate either FOPWL or GDA during a crossover cluster randomized experiment in rural and urban areas across 3 phases of exposure. During phase 1, participants evaluated mock-up images of single products (single task) and compared pairs of products within the same food category (comparison task) without any label. In phase 2, participants evaluated labels only (without any product), and during phase 3, they evaluated the same products and questions from phase 1, now depicting the assigned front-of-package label. We generated indicators for single-task questions and scores for comparison tasks, one for each HP, PI and UNC questions. We used intention-to-treat, difference-in-difference regression analysis to test whether exposure to FOPWL was associated with HP, PI and UNC, compared to GDA. We also tested models for children and adults and by area (rural/urban) separately adjusting for sociodemographic variables. Abstract Objective: To assess the effect of different front-of-package labelling (FOPL) schemes on the objective understanding of the nutritional content and intention to purchase products, in Panama. Design: Single-blinded multi-arm parallel-group randomised controlled trial. Setting: Supermarkets across Panama. Participants were exposed to two-dimensional images of fifteen mock-up products presented at random and balanced orders. Participants assigned to the intervention groups were exposed to mock-ups featuring one FOPL scheme: black octagonal warning labels (OWL), traffic-light labelling (TFL) or guideline daily amounts (GDA). The control group was not exposed to any FOPL scheme. Participants: Adult supermarket shoppers (n 1200). Participants were blinded to group assignment. Results: A similar number of participants were randomised and analysed in each group: OWL (n 300), TFL (n 300), GDA (n 300) and control (n 300). The odds of choosing to purchase the least harmful or none of the options more often was the highest in the OWL group. Compared with the control group, these odds were two times higher in the OWL group (OR 2·13, 95 % CI 1·60, 2·84) and 57 % higher in the TFL (1·57, 1·40–2·56), with no changes in the GDA (0·97, 0·73–1·29). OWL also resulted in the highest odds for correctly identifying the least harmful option and for correctly identifying a product with excessive amounts of sugars, sodium and/or saturated fats. Conclusions: OWL performed best in helping shoppers to correctly identify when a product contained excessive amounts of nutrients of concern, to correctly identify the least harmful option and to decide to purchase the least harmful or none of the options, more often.

International investment agreements (IIAs) promote foreign investment. However, they can undermine crucial health programs, creating a dilemma for governments between corporate and public health interests. For this reason, including clauses that safeguard health has become an essential practice in IIAs. According to the current literature, some countries have played a pivotal role in leading this inclusion, while others follow the former ones. However, the existing literature needs a unique approach that can quantify the influence strength of a country in disseminating clauses that explicitly mention health provisions to others. Following an NLP (Natural Language Processing)-based text similarity analysis of Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs), this study proposes a metric, 'Influence' (INF), which provides insights into the role of different countries or regions in the propagation of IIA texts among BITs. We demonstrate a comprehensive application of this metric using a large agreement dataset. Our findings from this application corroborate the evidence in the current literature, supporting the validity of the proposed metric. According to the INF, Germany, Canada, and Brazil emerged as the most influential players in defensive, neutral, and offensive health mentions, respectively. These countries wield substantial bargaining power in international investment law and policy, and their innovative approaches to BITs set a path for others to follow. These countries provide crucial insights into the direction and sources of influence of international investment regulations to safeguard health. The proposed metric holds substantial usage for policymakers and investors. This can help them identify vital global countries in IIA text dissemination and create new policy guidelines to safeguard health while balancing economic development and public health protection. Objectives. To identify the front-of-package scheme—Multiple Traffic Light (MTL), Nutri-Score (NS), and black octagon Warning System (WS)—most effective in reducing purchase intention and perceived product healthfulness of drinking yogurts, cookies and cheese spreads, and to assess the joint influence of nutrient claims on the effects. Methods. Randomized-controlled experiment. A within-subjects factorial design was used to evaluate the influence of three independent factors on perceived product healthfulness and purchase intention. A total of 704 adults in Argentina were shown three mock-up products and asked to indicate which product they would buy choosing between pairs of products from different categories and to rate product healthfulness on a 7-point Likert scale. Abstract Background Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) consumption is associated with overweight and obesity, which are important drivers for the increasing healthcare and other social costs. If expenditures on SSB decrease expenditures on other goods and services, such as education and healthcare, this “crowding-out” may have a lasting effect. The main objectives of this article are, first, to estimate the statistical association between the decision of spending in SSB and several households’ sociodemographic characteristics; and second, to estimate the association between the decision of buying SSB and budget allocation across categories in Jamaica. Methods Using the Jamaican Household Expenditure Survey 2004–2005 a generalized ordered probit model was estimated to examine the association between socioeconomic variables and the decision to spend on SSB. Seemingly Unrelated Regression Equations (SURE) of all the expenditure groups (except the SSB group) were used to estimate the association between the decision of buying SSB and budget allocation on other goods and services. Results Expenditures on SSB are negatively affected by the size of the household and the area of residence (rural households spend more on SSB than urban ones), while having a larger proportion of children (15 or younger) and having a larger total budget is associated to more expenditures on SSB. Households with positive expenditure on SSB allocate significantly less budget to “Healthcare” and “Education”, when compared to those who did not buy SSB. Conclusions SSB expenditures may displace expenditures in necessary goods and services, which implies that decreasing the proportion of budget spent on SSB may have important present and future consequences on poorer households’ human capital accumulation and future incomes.

Introduction The Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials (SPIRIT) reporting guideline establishes a minimum set of items to be reported in any randomised controlled trial (RCT) protocol. The Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) reporting guideline was developed to improve the reporting of interventions in RCT protocols and results papers. Reporting completeness in protocols of diet or nutrition-related RCTs has not been systematically investigated. We aim to identify published protocols of diet or nutrition-related RCTs, assess their reporting completeness and identify the main reporting limitations remaining in this field.Methods and analysis We will conduct a meta-research study of RCT protocols published in journals indexed in at least one of six selected databases between 2012 and 2022. We have run a search in PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO and Global Health using a search strategy designed to identify protocols of diet or nutrition-related RCTs. Two reviewers will independently screen the titles and abstracts of records yielded by the search in Rayyan. The full texts will then be read to confirm protocol eligibility. We will collect general study features (publication information, types of participants, interventions, comparators, outcomes and study design) of all eligible published protocols in this contemporary sample. We will assess reporting completeness in a randomly selected sample of them and identify their main reporting limitations. We will compare this subsample with the items in the SPIRIT and TIDieR statements. For all data collection, we will use data extraction forms in REDCap. This protocol is registered on the Open Science Framework (DOI: 10.17605/OSF.IO/YWEVS).Ethics and dissemination This study will undertake a secondary analysis of published data and does not require ethical approval. The results will be disseminated through journals and conferences targeting stakeholders involved in nutrition research.

Objetivo. Caracterizar el diseño de los impuestos selectivos al consumo de bebidas azucaradas en América Latina y el Caribe, y evaluar las oportunidades de aumentar su impacto en el consumo y la salud. Métodos. Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda y una evaluación exhaustivas de legislaciones vigentes a marzo del 2019, recopiladas mediante las herramientas de seguimiento ya existentes de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud y de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, fuentes secundarias, así como mediante una encuesta a ministerios de finanzas. El análisis se centró en el tipo de productos gravados y la estructura y la base de estos impuestos selectivos. Resultados. De los 33 países evaluados, en 21 se aplican impuestos selectivos al consumo de bebidas azucaradas. En siete países también se aplican impuestos selectivos sobre el agua embotellada y en al menos cuatro, se aplican tales impuestos sobre las bebidas lácteas azucaradas. Diez de estos impuestos selectivos al consumo son de tipo ad valorem con algunas bases imponibles fijadas en las primeras etapas de la cadena de valor, siete son de tipo específico y cuatro son de estructura combinada o mixta. En tres países se aplican impuestos selectivos al consumo en función de la concentración de azúcares del producto. Conclusiones. Si bien el número de países en que se aplican impuestos selectivos al consumo de bebidas azucaradas es prometedor, existe una gran heterogeneidad en su diseño en cuanto a la estructura, la base imponible y los productos gravados. Se podrían aprovechar aún más los impuestos selectivos existentes para tener un mayor impacto sobre el consumo de bebidas azucaradas y la salud si se incluyeran todas las categorías de bebidas azucaradas, excluyendo el agua embotellada, y si se recurriera más a impuestos específicos ajustados regularmente según la inflación y basados posiblemente en la concentración de azúcares del producto. Todos los países se beneficiarían si hubiera mayor orientación. Futuras investigaciones deberían tener como objetivo abordar esta brecha.

A bobina de Tesla é um experimento que pode ser muito útil no ensino médio e ensino Superior na perspectiva formal, além dos belíssimos efeitos visuais e o caráter lúdico que também chamam a atenção em exposições científicas. Neste trabalho é apre-sentada uma alternativa para a construção de uma bobina de média potência feita com semicondutores e transformador flyback, de baixo custo e fácil manuseio. A montagem foi realizada pela equipe de física na oficina do Caminhão com Ciência da Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz, ação de extensão itinerante de popularização da Ciência na região sul da Bahia. São apre-sentadas duas experiências feitas durantes as exposições.

Neste artigo objetivamos apresentar contribuições desde o ecofeminismo como subsídio teórico para a construção da luta dos corpos dissidentes em marcha pelo direito à terra. Para tal, partiremos da investigação acerca da desnaturalização tanto do mundo natural quanto dos desejos, a partir do ecofeminismo queer. Em seguida, incorporamos ao debate a discussão sobre a colonização, visando a destacar que conjuntamente à colonização das sexualidades dos povos originários também se deu a sistematização da cisheterossexualização da terra. Apresentaremos, ainda, a luta encampada pelo Coletivo LGBT Sem Terra como uma expressão que carrega uma luta capaz de desarticular o projeto colonial em vigor. Por fim, sugerimos adotarmos um ecofeminismo cuir como um paradigma teórico que oferece caminhos que semeiam novas formas de compreender os ismos de opressão que assolam as pessoas LGBTI+ em luta pela terra em Abya Yala.

Objective. To characterize the design of excise taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) in Latin America and the Caribbean and assess opportunities to increase their impact on SSB consumption and health. Methods. A comprehensive search and review of the legislation in effect as of March 2019, collected through existing Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization monitoring tools, secondary sources, and surveying ministries of finance. The analysis focused on the type of products taxed, and the structure and base of these excise taxes. Results. Out of the 33 countries analyzed, 21 apply excise taxes on SSBs. Seven countries also apply excise taxes on bottled water and at least four include sugar-sweetened milk drinks. Ten of these excise taxes are ad valorem with some tax bases set early in the value chain, seven are amount-specific, and four have either a combined or mixed structure. Three countries apply excise taxes based on sugar concentration. Conclusions. While the number of countries applying excise taxes on SSBs is promising, there is great heterogeneity in design in terms of structure, tax base, and products taxed. Existing excise taxes could be further leveraged to improve their impact on SSB consumption and health by including all categories of SSBs, excluding bottled water, and relying more on amount-specific taxes regularly adjusted for inflation and possibly based on sugar concentration. All countries would benefit from additional guidance. Future research should aim to address this gap.

Neste artigo, analisamos o caso que ficou conhecido como “Búfalas de Brotas” para introduzir a discussão sobre o conceito de especismo estrutural, situando o especismo como um dos componentes do sistema de opressões. Abordamos o aspecto informacional que envolve o caso por meio das narrativas identificadas na cobertura midiática do acontecimento. Ampliamos o debate para o viés informacional, ressaltando a necessidade da inserção de elementos políticos. Contextualizamos o especismo estrutural como estratégia de elevação do agronegócio que conta com outras instituições de poder como auxiliares no enviesamento da opinião pública, favorecendo a manutenção dos interesses deste setor e sua contínua expansão em detrimento da qualidade de vida de animais não humanos e humanos. Como metodologia, adotamos a revisão bibliográfica, correlacionando o arcabouço teórico dos saberes da Ciência da Informação, Estudos Críticos Animalistas, Ecofeminismos e análise do mencionado caso paradigmático por meio de relatos divulgados pela mídia para apuração da complexa trama que chamamos de “paradoxo da opressão”, envolvendo o movimento de ativismo em defesa da causa animal, a mídia e o agronegócio. Nossas considerações finais nos direcionam ao entendimento do especismo estrutural como um problema de ordem informacional por ser produto de estratégias de desinformação e desempenhar o papel de provimento do senso comum, produção de ignorância e manutenção de estruturas de poder que asseguram sua própria existência como um modo de opressão que impacta animais não humanos e humanos

O presente artigo analisa a relação que fora estabelecida, ao longo do tempo, entre os conceitos de direitos naturais e direitos universais. Elegendo Locke como representante do conceito de direitos naturais, pretendemos apresentar o distanciamento localizado entre os dois conceitos previamente citados. Por fim, temos por pretensão encontrar um caminho que fundamente os direitos humanos enquanto direitos universais a partir da compreensão de Estado e, com isso, se desvinculando da noção metafísica atribuída aos chamados direitos naturais em Locke.

Abstract Background Insects can be found in numerous diverse environments, being exposed to pathogenic organisms like fungi and bacteria. Once these pathogens cross insect physical barriers, the innate immune system operates through cellular and humoral responses. Antimicrobial peptides are small molecules produced by immune signaling cascades that develop an important and generalist role in insect defenses against a variety of microorganisms. In the present work, a cecropin B-like peptide (AgCecropB) sequence was identified in the velvetbean caterpillar Anticarsia gemmatalis and cloned in a bacterial plasmid vector for further heterologous expression and antimicrobial tests. Methods AgCecropB sequence (without the signal peptide) was cloned in the plasmid vector pET-M30-MBP and expressed in the Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) expression host. Expression was induced with IPTG and a recombinant peptide was purified using two affinity chromatography steps with Histrap column. The purified peptide was submitted to high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and structural analyses. Antimicrobial tests were performed using gram-positive (Bacillus thuringiensis) and gram-negative (Burkholderia kururiensis and E. coli) bacteria. Results AgCecropB was expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3) at 28°C with IPTG 0.5 mM. The recombinant peptide was purified and enriched after purification steps. HRMS confirmed AgCrecropB molecular mass (4.6 kDa) and circular dichroism assay showed α-helix structure in the presence of SDS. AgCrecropB inhibited almost 50% of gram-positive B. thuringiensis bacteria growth. Conclusions The first cecropin B-like peptide was described in A. gemmatalis and a recombinant peptide was expressed using a bacterial platform. Data confirmed tertiary structure as predicted for the cecropin peptide family. AgCecropB was capable to inhibit B. thuringiensis growth in vitro.

Purpose: To estimate the effect of the consumption of products with an excessive amount of critical nutrients associated with NCDs, according to the PAHO Nutrient Profile Model on the quality of the diet of Uruguayan school-age children (4 to 12 years). Methods: A 24 h recall of food intake was conducted in a representative sample of 332 participants in the evaluation of the School Feeding Program in 2018 in public schools in Montevideo, Uruguay. Food and preparations were categorized according to the NOVA food classification, according to the nature, extent, and purposes of the industrial processes they undergo. Later, they were analyzed according to the Pan American Health Organization Nutrient Profile Model (PAHO NPM) to identify processed and ultra-processed products with an excessive content of critical nutrients. Results: Only 0.52% of children consumed exclusively natural foods, or culinary ingredients. Twenty-five per cent of children consumed ≥4 products categorized with an excessive content of free sugars, total fat, or saturated fat according to the PAHO NPM; in the case of excessive sodium, this was 40%. In general, children who included products with excessive free sugars, sodium, or saturated fat in their diet exceeded the limits established by the World Health Organization, and, as a result, their diet is of poorer nutritional quality compared to children who did not consume such products. Conclusion: Diets free of ultra-processed and processed products with excess free sugars, total fats, saturated fats, and sodium increased the chances of school-age children in Montevideo of meeting WHO nutrient intake recommendations. Meanwhile, intake of each additional gram of products with excessive critical nutrients according to PAHO NPM, significantly worsens diets, preventing children from meeting WHO recommendations.

Este trabalho tem o propósito de investigar a produção do sujeito no contexto escolar neoliberal, a partir de Michel Foucault. Para tal, analisaremos de que maneira os dispositivos disciplinares atuam sobre os corpos desses sujeitos no contexto escolar como um todo para que, em um segundo momento, se possa refletir sobre as especificidades desses dispositivos no contexto neoliberal. Tal equação se traduz na forma do binômio: construir/fabricar sujeitos, compreendido também pelo processo de subjetivação. Portanto, este trabalho objetiva analisar os conceitos de disciplina e subjetivação em Foucault como forma de melhor compreender as influências do contexto neoliberal nos espaços de ensino contemporâneos. Therefore, this work aims to analyze the concepts of discipline and subjectivation in Foucault in a way to better understand the influences of the neoliberal context in contemporary educational spaces. Por lo tanto, este trabajo objetiva analizar los conceptos de disciplina y subjetivación en Foucault como forma de comprender mejor las influencias del contexto neoliberal en los espacios de enseñanza contemporáneos. Discussões sobre moralidade e justiça no campo internacional frequentemente, quando rejeitam a teoria realista, acabam adotando duas posições gerais possíveis: comunitaristas ou cosmopolitas. Cada qual prioriza diferentes modos de interpretação de direitos e obrigações e possuem variantes. Para a discussão aqui proposta, perceber em que medida a soberania nacional se faz valer de alguns pressupostos importantes da perspectiva comunitarista que, aqui alocada, chamaremos de defensores do estado-nação, é fundamental para compreender o modo como o estado-nação vem sendo destacado como o ator primordial das discussões no âmbito internacional. Para tal, procuraremos situar essa perspectiva em dois momentos. Ambas terão como fio condutor a leitura de um dos maiores defensores dessa perspectiva nos debates atuais sobre o tema, David Miller. No primeiro momento será analisada a obra “On Nationality” e, posteriormente, “National Responsibility and Global Justice” de modo que seja possível identificarmos mais profundamente o conceito de nacionalidade defendido por Miller e como ele se apresenta diante dos desafios globais atuais, seus avanços e também limites.

Uma das questões mais interessantes do debate contemporâneo sobre a justiça, no âmbito da teoria política normativa, diz respeito sobre qual foco deveria ocupar a posição central de uma visão igualitarista: igualdade baseada em satisfação de necessidades básicas, bens primários como propõe Rawls, igualdade de recursos como defende Dworkin ou, como quer Amartya Sen, igualdade de capacidades? Com o que, afinal, os igualitaristas deveriam se preocupar? Este trabalho tem o objetivo de analisar criticamente essas três perspectivas.

Neste artigo foram analisados os potenciais conflitos entre interesses governamentais e privados de caráter comercial em torno das ações de alimentação e nutrição (AN) no âmbito de propostas intersetoriais de enfrentamento das DCNT no Brasil. Para tal, foram identificados artigos acadêmicos e documentos institucionais publicados a partir de 2000 que abordassem as ações de AN em políticas de DCNT pautadas pela intersetorialidade. Foram priorizados elementos que contribuíssem para a compreensão dos potenciais conflitos de interesse entre governos e o setor privado comercial no âmbito de estratégias intersetoriais de enfrentamento de DCNT. Concluiu-se que o princípio da intersetorialidade, desassociado de um processo político que problematize os critérios de eleição e as práticas institucionais dos setores que respondem pelo conjunto de ações que compõe as políticas governamentais, pode servir como facilitador do favorecimento de interesses comerciais. A participação no processo decisório de setores de interesse comercial cujas práticas ferem objetivos e princípios das políticas públicas, movidos pela expansão da demanda por seus produtos e pela concentração progressiva de poder, pode retardar, atenuar ou impedir ações efetivas na redução de DCNT. Esta possibilidade é particularmente relevante no âmbito de atribuições que são próprias aos entes Estatais, especialmente as estratégias regulatórias.

An experiment was conducted with the aim to analyze the effects of soil flooding and leaf position on net primary productivity and whole plant carbon balance of Annona glabra L. Objetivo. Estimar el efecto que representa en la calidad de la dieta de la primera infancia uruguaya niños de 2 a 4 años el consumo de productos que contienen cantidades excesivas de nutrientes críticos asociados a las enfermedades no transmisibles (ENT) (azúcares libres, grasas totales, grasas saturadas y sodio), según el modelo de perfil de nutrientes de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS). Métodos. Se utilizó un recordatorio de ingesta de alimentos durante 24 horas en una muestra representativa de 401 participantes de la Encuesta de Nutrición, Desarrollo Infantil y Salud del año 2018. Se usó la clasificación de alimentos propuesta por el sistema NOVA para categorizarlos según su naturaleza y los procesos industriales a los que son sometidos. A partir de esto se lo analizó con base en el modelo de perfil de nutrientes de la OPS, lo cual permitió identificar los productos con contenido excesivo de estos nutrientes. Resultados. El 50 % de los niños consumieron tres o más productos con exceso de alguno de los nutrientes vinculados con las ENT. Aproximadamente 9 de cada 10 niños consumen productos con exceso de al menos uno de los nutrientes críticos estudiados. Conclusión. Las dietas que no contienen productos ultraprocesados y procesados con exceso de azúcares libres, grasas totales, grasas saturadas y sodio fueron la mejor opción para los niños de 2 a 4 años. La ingesta de productos con exceso de nutrientes críticos según la OPS (y cada gramo adicional consumido de tales productos) empeora la calidad de la dieta de manera significativa, e impide que se cumpla con las recomendaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud.

Este artigo pretende defender a urgência de promovermos uma revisão ampla do viés antropocêntrico que tem marcado os conteúdos programáticos das diversas disciplinas oferecidas nas escolas brasileiras, nos mais diversos segmentos. Nesse sentido, aposta em uma reflexão acerca da fundamentação ética sobre como os animais não-humanos vem sendo apresentados nos diversos espaços formais de ensino. Creditamos que a consolidação do debate ambiental entorno de temas como lixo, poluição, saúde e conservação de espécies reitera o antropocentrismo e contribui para a inviabilização de demandas próprias aos animais e ao meio ambiente. Trata-se, assim, de conduzir o debate a um novo paradigma, qual seja: a busca por uma forma de educação não-especista. Para isso, pretendemos, em primeiro lugar, apresentar conceitos básicos convergentes da ética animal e ambiental, de modo a podermos identificar a questão relativa ao valor relacional presente no debate ambiental. A partir de um olhar diferenciado sobre o lugar dos animais e do meio-ambiente, pretendemos defender uma proposta pedagógica que assuma o papel de questionar as diversas formas de injustiças cometidas contra animais e meio ambiente e, ao mesmo tempo, apresentar a noção de capacidade imaginativa, capaz de estimular os indivíduos a refletirem sobre a relação humano-meio ambiente e humano-animal de forma mais empática, através da mobilização de recursos visuais, tais como filmes e fotografias.

RESUMO O presente artigo apresenta alguns pontos essenciais do pensamento do filósofo Michael Slote em sua obra “The ethics of care and empathy”. Situamos a sua produção no contexto em que a ética do cuidado foi desenvolvida e problematizada, evidenciando, sobretudo, a questão de gênero que atravessa essa perspectiva ética. Assim, convocamos autores e autoras que dialogam estreitamente com as questões levantadas por Slote como interlocutores fundamentais para se pensar a empatia como componente fundamental da ética do cuidado. Em sequência, resgatamos o sentido ontológico do cuidado e da responsabilidade, correlacionando-os com a prática do cuidado em saúde. Ao final, apresentamos um caso paradigmático para um debate concreto da ética do cuidado e empatia no âmbito da educação moral, destacando sua importância no processo de formação dos profissionais de saúde no Brasil.
