In the pursuit of advancing spin-wave optics, the propagation of magnetostatic surface spin-waves is investigated in a uniform permalloy waveguide with in-situ nanopatterned grooves created through Atomic Force Microscopy nanolithography and Focused Ion Beam etching. The study unveils that the introduction of narrow constrictions and grooves leads to a non-monotonic reduction of the transmitted spin-wave signal intensity as the spin-wave pathway is shrinked. The remarkable feature that a stronger signal extinction is obtained for a narrow groove compared to a spin-waveguide interrupted by a full gap, where only inefficient transport through dipolar coupling is allowed, is highlighted. Combining experimental and numerical analyses, the intricate interplay between spin-wave diffraction and reflection at the waveguide edges is unraveled, being at the origin of a transverse-mode variation responsible for the signal extinction when detected using coplanar antennas. The findings offer insights into the controllable manipulation of detected spin-wave intensity, thereby opening promising avenues for the improvement of spin-wave switches and interferometers, and for the nanopatterning of graded index magnonics., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Introduction: The rhizosphere is the zone of soil surrounding plant roots that is directly influenced by root exudates released by the plant, which select soil microorganisms. The resulting rhizosphere microbiota plays a key role in plant health and development by enhancing its nutrition or immune response and protecting it from biotic or abiotic stresses. In particular, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are beneficial members of this microbiota that represent a great hope for agroecology, since they could be used as bioinoculants for sustainable crop production. Therefore, it is necessary to decipher the molecular dialog between roots and PGPR in order to promote the establishment of bioinoculants in the rhizosphere, which is required for their beneficial functions., Methods: Here, the ability of root exudates from rapeseed ( Brassica napus ), pea ( Pisum sativum ), and ryegrass ( Lolium perenne ) to attract and feed three PGPR ( Bacillus subtilis , Pseudomonas fluorescens , and Azospirillum brasilense ) was measured and compared, as these responses are directly involved in the establishment of the rhizosphere microbiota., Results: Our results showed that root exudates differentially attracted and fed the three PGPR. For all beneficial bacteria, rapeseed exudates were the most attractive and induced the fastest growth, while pea exudates allowed the highest biomass production. The performance of ryegrass exudates was generally lower, and variable responses were observed between bacteria. In addition, P. fluorescens and A. brasilense appeared to respond more efficiently to root exudates than B. subtilis . Introduction and Importance: Leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) is used for its ability to deliver high concentrations of autologous growth factors to host tissues, to promote tissue repair., Case Presentation: This report describes the case of a 48-year-old woman with tongue cancer treated surgically (pT3pN0), who experienced a delay of five weeks in the process of deep wound healing after a tracheotomy and cervical lymph node dissection that was treated with L-PRF. The patient had no risk factors for delayed wound healing, except for active preoperative smoking. Several attempts were made to stimulate bleeding and edge-to-edge closure, without conclusive results. However, five days after L-PRF placement, the subcutaneous tissues were adhering to the deep planes in both wounds. Fifteen days after L-PRF treatment, a complete wound healing was observed which allowed initiation of postoperative radiotherapy., Clinical Discussion: This case report questions the potential of L-PRF for patients with a pN0 status, not only in superficial wounds, but also in deep wound healing. However, the use of L-PRF for patients with a pN1 status is not recommended, given the possible presence of tumour cells in the tissues, and the activation of these tumour cells by the growth factors present in L-PRF., Conclusion: This report supports the idea that L-PRF can contribute to deep soft tissue healing for patients with a pN0 status due to its positive clinical healing effects., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare there are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors.
