Polymer-derived ceramic aerogels are promising materials for thermal insulation and microwave absorption in harsh environments because their microstructures can be controlled at the molecular level. Silicon oxycarbide (SiOC) aerogels are considered as potential high-temperature electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers, but their application range is limited by complex preparation process and unsatisfactory microwave-absorption performance. This paper reports a new SiC nanowire/SiOC composite aerogel (SCA) synthesized through the sol–gel process, environmental pressure drying, and high-temperature treatment. The SCA performance is adjusted by controlling the ratio of SiC nanowires, obtaining low thermal conductivities (0.04–0.042 W m−1 K−1) and excellent mechanical properties (4.37–5.45 MPa). Increasing the SiC nanowire content gradually increases the EMW absorption capacity of SCA. The optimal reflection loss is −53.64 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth is 3.88 GHz, substantially higher than that of SiOC aerogels. This high performance is mainly attributable to the appropriate impedance matching characteristics and strong polarization loss ability. Moreover, the performance of the composite aerogels was retained after long-term treatment in an air environment at 800 °C. SCA also exhibits excellent high-temperature insulation and flame retardancy. Owing to its light weight, strong microwave-absorption ability, good thermal insulation performance, and oxidation resistance, SCA is a highly promising alternative material for use in extreme environments. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of norbornene‐furan functionalized benzoxazine monomers (HPAP‐fa, HPAMP‐fa, and HPTM‐fa) by regulating the bridge length in benzoxazine structure in order to improve the comprehensive performance of norbornene‐furan functionalized benzoxazine system. This research systematically examined the impact of flexible segments on the structural information, polymerization behaviors, thermal stability, and flame retardancy of resulting polybenzoxazines. Initially, the structural characteristics of benzoxazine were confirmed through nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR), and HR‐MS. Subsequently, the polymerization mechanisms of each benzoxazine monomer were investigated utilizing differential scanning calorimeter and in situ FT‐IR analyses. Finally, the thermal stability and flame‐retardant properties were investigated by TGA and micro‐combustion calorimetry measurements. Consequently, HPAP‐fa exhibited the lowest polymerization temperature and the corresponding poly(HPAP‐fa) showed very high thermal stability (Td5 of 392°C and Td10 of 437°C) as well as excellent flame retardancy (HRC of 83.7 J g−1 K−1), which shows a significant improvement compared to poly(HPTM‐fa). As a result, the modulation of bridge segments within the monomer represents a viable approach towards enhancing the holistic efficacy of norbornene‐furan functionalized benzoxazine systems. For high energy density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with nickel-rich ternary cathodes, the chemical degradation of electrolytes caused by free radical reactions and the hazards of thermal runaway have always been significant challenges. Inspired by the free radical scavenging of living organisms and multiphase synergistic flame retardant mechanism, we innovatively designed and prepared a multifunctional flame retardant HCCP-TMP that combines flame retardancy and free radical scavenging by combining hindered amine and cyclophosphazene. Only 1 wt% HCCP-TMP can make the polyacrylate-based gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) incombustible. Moreover, the equipped NCM811//Graphite pouch cells don't exhibit combustion behavior after thermal runaway and can resist mechanical abuse. Based on the above noncombustible GPE, the NCM811//Li battery exhibits capacity retention rate of 82.2 % after 100 cycles at a current density of 2 C and in the voltage range of 3.0–4.7 V, exhibiting excellent cyclability under high voltage. The development of high toughness as well as flame‐retardant polylactic acid (PLA) materials is important for expanding the practical applications. Herein, a type of high toughness PLA composites with improved flame retardancy was developed through combining modified carbon nanotubes (CNT) and polysiliconoxaborane (PBSi) with PLA matrix. The optimal PLA composite (PLA/PBSi/CNT‐3.0) exhibited excellent crystallization degree (18.7%), thermal stability (the Ea significantly increased), flame retardancy (the values of peak heat release rate (PHRR) polarized optical microscopy and total heat release (THR) decreased to 287.1 W/g and 15.5 kJ/m2, respectively), and mechanical properties (the elongation at break increased to 149.5%, with an increasement of 1745.7%) due to the combined action of flexible chain segments and hydrogen bonding interactions. Furthermore, the toughening mechanism of the PLA/PBSi/CNT composites was illustrated and attributed to the combination of flexible SiOBO segments and two dominant energy dissipation processes (the breakage of hydrogen bond and the destruction of microcrystals). Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) sulfonation process is a reasonably easy but time‐consuming to manufacture composites. This study focuses on altering PEEK powder in a sulfuric acid solution via a sulfonation process to develop sulfonated PEEK (SPEEK) resin for the fiber‐reinforced thermoplastic composite manufacturing and characterization steps. In this study, about 5 wt% PEEK powder was sulfonated in 98% sulfuric acid solution for 12 h at 65°C. The water bath technique was used for the precipitation process to obtain the SPEEK polymer. After proper washing and drying, the SPEEK matrix (resin) was obtained by dissolving it in dimethylformamide in a ratio of 1:2. This resin solution was then used to manufacture thermoplastic Kevlar and glass fiber‐reinforced composites employing wet layup process and cured at an elevated temperature under pressure. These SPEEK composites passed the flame retardancy UL94 test with a V0 rating. The average water contact angle of the glass fiber‐ and Kevlar‐SPEEK composites is 93.67° and 102.24°, respectively. The average tensile strength values of these composites were found 222.22 and 284.35 MPa, correspondingly. The smoke density and toxicity tests of the glass fiber‐SPEEK composite confirmed lower smoke generation with the modifications. Creating eco-friendly flame retardants (FRs) that are highly effective for textiles while requiring minimal quantities is crucial for both human well-being and environmental conservation. Traditionally, halogen FRs have been the mainstay in this field. Yet, due to their harmful impacts on both human health and the environment, there is a growing demand to discontinue their use. Herein, in this work, a novel eco-friendly intumescent-based flame retardant for cotton fabrics, consisting of ammonium polyphosphate (APP), single-walled carbon nanohorns (SWCNHs), and melamine (MEL) was explored. The addition of SWCNHs demonstrated a clear synergistic effect with APP and MEL in enhancing the flame retardancy of cotton fabrics. After four spraying cycles, the treated cotton fabric ASM4 demonstrated outstanding flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties. Additionally, its LOI value could reach 24.1 ± 0.1% and the damage length dropped to 4.6 ± 0.2% cm from 30.0 ± 0.1% cm for the pristine cotton fabric, while preserving its original morphology with partial carbonization. The pHRR and THR of ASM4 were dramatically decreased by 90% and 51%, respectively in the cone calorimeter test. Moreover, investigating the thermal degradation kinetics of treated cotton fabric and the physicochemical properties of the char residues revealed the crucial influence of SWCNHs on improving the flame resistance of cotton fabrics. The incorporation of SWCNHs improved both the thermal stability and the degree of graphitization of the char layer, which served as a protective barrier. This barrier efficiently blocked the release of volatile combustible substances while allowing for the emission of nonflammable gases. In this study, the challenges of brittleness and flammability in Polyamide 6/glass fiber (PA6/GF) composites, which are crucial for heat‐resistant and stress‐bearing structural parts, are addressed. Polyphosphazene (PZ) elastomers, known for their exceptional flame‐retardant properties, are introduced to enhance the robustness and safety of these composites. Specifically, poly(diaryloxy)phosphazene (PDAP) and poly(difluoroalkoxy)phosphazene (PDFP) are utilized, both contributing to the improved toughness and flame resistance of the PA6/GF composites. Experimental results show that PDAP mainly played the role of solid‐phase flame retardant, while PDFP mainly acted the role of gas‐phase flame retardant. For PA/PZs composites without adding GF, PDFP plays a more efficient flame retardant effect than PDAP. By introducing 15 Vol% of PDFP, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of the composite reached 26.1%, while the notched impact strength increased by 297%. For PA/PZs/GF composites, PDAP plays a better flame retardant role than PDFP. Under the action of 30 vol% GF and 15 vol% PDAP, the LOI of PA6/PDAP/GF composite reached 26.8%, and the notch impact strength improved to 18.7 kJ/m2, which is 165% higher than that of PA6/GF, and the UL‐94 test reaches V‐0 level. The findings of the study highlight the potential of PDAP and PDFP to act as dual‐function modifiers. These modifiers can considerably ameliorate both the impact resistance and flame retardancy of PA6 and PA6/GF composites. Such dual enhancement surpasses the typical trade‐offs seen in conventional composites, indicating a constructive direction for future material innovation. The enhancement of flame resistance and mechanical strength is critical for the utilization of rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) composites. In this study, the efficient synergistic flame‐retardant system, incorporating dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) and expandable graphite (EG), with the addition of refined alkali lignin (A‐lignin) were aimed to superior fire resistance and mechanical integrity for RPUF. Furthermore, the flame retardancy and charring ability of obtained RPUF were obviously enhanced. Notably, an RPUF mixture containing A‐lignin, DMMP, and EG demonstrated substantial charring at elevated temperatures, improved limiting oxygen index, and met the UL‐94 V‐0 rating. Cone calorimeter test indicated that this formulation produces less heat and smoke than pure RPUF. The flame‐retardant efficacy of obtained RPUF was attributed to the formation of a protective char layer coupled with the free radical neutralization properties of DMMP, collectively enhancing the flame retardancy obtained RPUF. Additionally, this RPUF variant showed significant advancements in both mechanical and thermal performance. Highlights To enhance the flame retardant property of fiber‐reinforced polymer composites without adding more flame retardants, we prepared film stacking composites by maintaining a total flame retardant content of 20% and applying a gradient flame retardant strategy. The gradient composites have been designated as 3113FRPLA/F and 1331FRPLA/F, respectively. 3113FRPLA/F is characterized by an augmented concentration of fire‐resistant additives in the surface layer, while 1331FRPLA/F features a reduced content. 20%FRPLA/F is prepared with a homogeneously distributed flame retardant composition. Results derived from LOI test and cone calorimeter test unequivocally demonstrate that 3113FRPLA/F outperforms both 1331FRPLA/F and 20%FRPLA/F in improving flame retardancy. The LOI value of 3113FRPLA/F is 36.1%, exceeding that of 20%FRPLA/F and there is also a reduction in the pk‐HRR compared with 20%FRPLA/F. It is of interest to note that 3113FRPLA/F exhibits the most effective heat insulation properties while 20%FRPLA/F has the worst, which is reflected by the infrared thermal imaging results. It bears mention that the impact strength and tensile strength of 3113FRPLA/F surpasses that of 20%FRPLA/F. In summary, 3113FRPLA/F, characterized by its increased surface concentration of flame retardants, demonstrates the most superior overall performance. The characteristics of PLA/fiber composites using a gradient strategy were compared. The LOI value of 3113FRPLA/F is 36.1%, exceeding that of 20%FRPLA/F. 3113FRPLA/F has the best heat insulation effect while 20%FRPLA/F has the worst. This paper introduces a novel hybrid material, MoS2@Ag@PA, with a core–shell structure aimed at improving the fire safety and critical properties of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). The incorporation of 2% of this hybrid material results in a remarkable enhancement in both thermal conductivity and tensile strength of EVA composites, increasing by 52.4% and 22.6%, respectively. Furthermore, the inclusion of 2% of this material leads to a significant reduction in the peak of heat release rate, total heat release, and total smoke production of the EVA composites by 36.2%, 28.1%, and 29.7%, respectively, compared to pure EVA. This indicates a substantial improvement in fire safety, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivity of the EVA composites. The enhanced flame retardancy of the EVA composites is primarily attributed to the synergistic effect of various substances within the hybrid material. Densified wood (DW) is a carbon-negative and energy-saving structural material with promising applications in high-rise timber buildings. However, its fire safety issues restrict its applications. In this paper, a bio-material, phytic acid, based flame retardant PPBNOH was prepared to improve the flame retardancy of DW. The structure characteristics, thermal stability, flammability, combustion behavior and mechanical performance of flame-retardant DW (PPBNOH/DW) were studied. Results show that the decomposition of PPBNOH catalyzes char formation and enhances thermal stability. Thus, PPBNOH/DW has a 57% reduced peak mass loss rate and a 27.9% increased char yield. Both the wood dense structure and PPBNOH catalyzation synergistically promote the formation of phosphorus-containing, crosslinked and aromatic char during wood combustion, which hinders heat/mass transfers and enhances flame retardancy. Thus, PPBNOH/DW has a 53.2% limiting oxygen index, a V-0 rating of UL-94 test. It presents delayed ignition time, reduced heat release characteristics and lower heat of combustion (5.37 MJ kg−1) in the cone calorimeter test. BNOH improves the smoke suppression performance of PPBNOH/DW with a 38.6% reduced total smoke production. The compatible and thermally insulating char also enhances the high-temperature heating resistance of PPBNOH/DW as it has the highest remaining mechanical strengths after heating. The application of warm-mix flame retardant rubber asphalt (WFRA) in tunnel pavement offers a promising solution that enhances both energy conservation and tunnel safety. First, a commercial halogen-free flame retardant (ZK), alumina trihydrate (ATH), and organic montmorillonite compound ATH flame retardant (OMMT/ATH) were melt-blended with warm-mix rubber asphalt (WRA) to prepare different types of WFRAs. Then, the effects of various flame retardants (FRs) on flame retardancy and rheological properties of the WRA were evaluated. Moreover, the functional groups of FR, WRA, and WFRA were investigated. Finally, the synergistic mechanism of FR on the WRA was explored based on the analysis of flame retardancy, rheological properties, and functional groups. Results show that the flame-retardant effect of OMMT/ATH on the WRA is much better than that of single FRs (ZK and ATH), indicating that the OMMT and ATH exhibit synergistic flame-retardant effect. The addition of OMMT/ATH enhances the high-temperature performance but shows little effect on the fatigue performance of the WRA. The synergistic flame-retardant mechanism of OMMT/ATH on the WRA is mainly attributed to the physical barrier effect of OMMT, the cooling and dilution effect of ATH, and the synergistic covering layer effect of OMMT and ATH. Melamine polyphosphate (MP), a halogen-free flame retardant was utilized to prepare flame retardant enhanced montmorillonite (MP-MMT), which was introduced into polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) by emulsion polymerization to improve its heat resistance and flame retardancy. The decorated PMMA were characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, and XPS, indicating that MP-MMT/PMMA composites were successfully prepared. The resulting composites exhibited excellent heat resistance, the temperature at maximum weight loss rate was increased from 360 °C to 377 °C, and the char residue at 500 °C was increased to 1.93%. In addition, the LOI value of PMMA composite system was increased from 17.2% to 22.4%, and MP-MMT/PMMA-3 achieved UL-94 V-1 rating. Compared with pure PMMA, the total heat release and peak heat release rate of MP-MMT/PMMA were reduced by 23.0% and 32.4%, respectively. The total smoke release of the optimal flame-retardant PMMA resin decreased by 22.1%, the CO production increased slightly, and the CO2 production decreased significantly. This indicates that the incorporation of MP-MMT has a good effect on flame retardancy. Finally, the flame retardant mechanism of MP-MMT to inhibit PMMA combustion was analyzed. A new hyperbranched charring-foaming agent (PCAT) containing triazine and triazole groups was successfully synthesized and characterized, and its special pyrolysis behavior was analyzed. It was combined with PAPP as an acid source to form an intumescent flame-retardant system. The composite with 20% flame retardants containing PAPP/PCAT (3:1) showed better flame-retardant and smoke suppression properties. The LOI of the PP/PAPP/PCAT composite increased to 30.2% and achieved UL-94 V-0 rating when the mass ratio of PAPP/PCAT was 3:1. In cone calorimetry experiments, it was demonstrated to reduce PHRR and THR by 84.7% and 48.9%, respectively. Meanwhile, the PSPR and TSP were also reduced by 77.9% and 56.2%, respectively, relative to PP. This indicates that the PP modified by partially doping PCAT in PAPP has significantly enhanced heat dissipation and smoke suppression performance, thus performing higher fire safety. In terms of FRI, PP/PAPP/PCAT composite was considered to be of "good" flame retardancy. Thermal gravimetric analysis demonstrated that PCAT significantly improved the char yield of PP when combined with PAPP. The morphology and properties of the residue showed that PP/PAPP/PCAT could produce a significant expanded foam insulating carbon layer, and the graphitization degree of the residual carbon was enhanced. The investigation of their water resistance demonstrated that the PP/PAPP/PCAT composite still obtained a UL-94 V-0 rating after 168-h soaking in water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supramolecular flame retardants have attracted increasing attention recently due to their simple and eco-friendly preparation process. In this study, a novel flame retardant HEPFR was prepared using supramolecular self-assembly technology between piperazine and 1-hydroxy ethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP). It was introduced into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix to form PVA/HEPFR composite film. Subsequently, the transparency, mechanical properties, thermal stability, and flame retardancy of PVA/HEPFR films were studied. Due to the hydrogen bonded cross-linked network structure between PVA and HEPFR, the mechanical properties of PVA/HEPFR films have been improved, while maintaining good transparency. With 10 wt% addition of HEPFR, PVA films can reach the VTM-0 level in UL-94 testing. And the limiting oxygen index can be increased from 18.5% of pure PVA to 26.5%. The peak heat release rate was reduced by 61.5%. The flame retardancy and thermal stability of PVA/HEPFR films have been greatly improved. Although epoxy resin (EP) has been widely used in many fields, it is still urgent to effectively improve its flame retardancy by halogen‐free strategies. Herein, a silicon‐containing cyclotriphosphazene derivative (HEP‐Si) was synthesized by nucleophilic substitution and silicon–hydrogen addition reaction using eugenol, hexachlorophosphazene and triethylsilane as raw materials. Then it served as a halogen‐free flame retardant for an EP/4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane system, and its performance was compared with that of commercial flame retardant hexaphenoxycyclotriphosphazene (HPP). The results showed that although the initial thermal decomposition temperature (T5%) of the cured products of EP/HEP‐Si was slightly lower than that of pure EP, T5% did not decrease further as the amount of HEP‐Si increased, indicating that good thermal stability was maintained. In addition, the char yield of the cured products of EP/HEP‐Si was significantly increased (more than 20 wt%) compared to that of pure EP. The cured EP with the addition of HPP and HEP‐Si both achieved a V‐0 rating in UL‐94 vertical burning test at 0.5 wt% phosphorus content, while the limiting oxygen index of the EP/HEP‐Si system was higher, reaching 33.2%. From cone calorimetric test results, the peak heat release rate, total heat release and total smoke production of the cured products of EP/HEP‐Si decreased by 61.5%, 37.1% and 26.2%, respectively, compared with that of pure EP. The cured EP/HEP‐Si materials also exhibited good thermomechanical and mechanical properties. Waterborne polyurethane (WPU), which is a novel and environmentally friendly variety of polyurethane, replaces organic solvents with water. It has been extensively utilized in diverse fields encompassing coatings, textile finishing, building decoration, adhesives, plastic chemistry, and others. However, WPU is inherently flammable and releases a significant amount of smoke production during the combustion process. This research presents an original fire‐resistant Waterborne Polyurethane (WPU) with a newly‐integrated flame‐retardant component comprising a triazine phosphoramidate segment derived from 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxo‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) within its primary structure. In comparison to pure WPU, the limiting oxygen index (LOI) of flame‐retardant WPU (FRWPU) increased from 19.6% to 29.2%. In UL‐94 testing, the FRWPU film achieved a V‐0 rating with only 6% retarding component. Additionally, in cone calorimetry tests, Total Heat Release (THR), peak Heat Release Rate (pHRR), Total Smoke Production (TSP), Smoke Production Rate (SPR), and peak Carbon Monoxide Production Rate (pCOP) are decreased by 27.7%, 16.2%, 64.6%, 61.3%, and 77.8%, respectively. The greater degree of graphitization observed in the residual carbon substantially impeded heat exchange and the emission of smoke during combustion. Flame‐retardant intermediate segments greatly improved the FRWPUs' ability to suppress smoke and remain flame‐retardant. It is difficult to effectively manage the emission of harmful smoke from flame‐retardant modified epoxy resins (EP). In order to solve this difficulty, a highly efficient flame‐resistant PAD containing phosphorus, nitrogen, and sulfur was synthesized using a simply one‐pot method employing 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO), 2‐amino‐5‐mercapto‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole (AMT), and terephthalaldehyde for not only enhancing its flame retardant properties but also effectively suppressing the emission of fumes. Results have confirmed that the incorporation of 5 wt% flame retardant into the EP successfully passed the UL‐94 V‐0 rating, besides 24.2% reduction in the peak of smoke produce rate (PSPR), with outstanding fire‐resistant properties and effectively reduce smoke emissions. In addition, incorporating 7.5% of PAD into EP increased its flexural strength and modulus, from 78.4 and 2917.5 to 86.6 and 3162.9 MPa, respectively. Conventional thermosetting polymers, mostly derived from nonrenewable petroleum resources, are not reprocessable and recyclable due to their highly cross-linked three-dimensional networks and face the disadvantage of high flammability. To solve these issues, in this study, we synthesized a novel Schiff base covalent adaptable thermoset from a furan-derived tri-aldehyde monomer (TMFP) and a furan-derived di-amine monomer (DFDA). The as-prepared TMFP-DFDA-Vitrimer exhibited superior anti-flammability with a high limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 35.0% and a UL-94 V-0 rating, which was attributed to the excellent charring ability. Additionally, TMFPDFDA-Vitrimer could also be conveniently recycled by chemical decomposition under a mixed hydrochloric acid/tetrahydrofuran (HCl/THF) solution. After recycling for 5 times, the thermal, mechanical, and flame retardant properties of the recycled TMFP-DFDA-Vitrimer retained almost unchanged compared to the original one. This study presents a novel approach to fabricate 3D‐printed phosphorous‐based acrylate monomers using stereolithographic 3D printing technology, aiming to create demonstrators with exceptional shape‐memory characteristics and robust flame retardant properties. The synthesized materials combine the advantages of 3D printing precision with the intrinsic flame retardancy of phosphorous‐based monomers, offering a versatile solution for applications requiring both shape memory functionality and fire resistance. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of the intrinsically flame‐retardant shape‐memory polymer (IFR‐SMP) can reach 34%, and the vertical combustion rating after UL 94 can obtain V‐0. The mechanism of the IFR‐SMP flame retardant mainly includes terminating a free‐radical chain reaction and gas phase dilution, which indicates that the gas‐phase mechanism plays an important role in the flame retardancy. In this paper, preoxidized fibers, flame-retardant acrylic fibers and polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) fibers were chosen to prepare thermal insulation felts by the spunlaced process. The preparation of thermal insulation felts by single-component fibers, bicomponent fibers and multi-component fibers was studied. The breaking strength of the single fibers, flame retardancy, thermal conductivity, air permeability, thermal stability, shrinkage rate after washing, and the breaking strength of the thermal insulation felts were characterized. The results show that, for the single-component felts, preoxidized fiber felt had a longitudinal char length of only 35 mm, which was less than that of flame-retardant acrylic fiber felts and PPS felts. However, its longitudinal breaking strength was only 39.8 N. The bicomponent thermal insulation felt, blended with flame-retardant acrylic fibers and preoxidized fibers, had a higher breaking strength than the single-component felt, but it had char lengths greater than 100 mm after the vertical burning test. When the ratio of the multi-component insulation felts (preoxidized fibers, PPS fibers and flame-retardant acrylic fibers) was 35:60:5, the felt's longitudinal char length measured 23 mm, which was less than that of the aramid felt 72 mm. This felt's thermal conductivity was 0.0515 W/mK. It had an air permeability of 1995 mm/s, and the longitudinal dimensional shrinkage rate following the thermal stability test was only 1.1%. In this study, graphene nanoplatelets were applied to polyester fabrics using the knife‐coating method at different concentrations (50, 100, and 150 g/kg). SEM, DSC, and TGA/DTG analyses were performed. The influence of graphene coating on hydrophobicity and surface roughness was examined by water contact angle (WCA) measurement and root mean square roughness, respectively. Abrasion resistance and tear strength tests were also performed. The effect of graphene used as a filler on the flammability of polyester fabric was evaluated for the first time according to the BS 5852 standard. No significant weight loss (only in the range of 0.4%–1.5%) was observed in the graphene‐coated samples even after 100,000 cycles. While the WCA value was 0 for the uncoated fabric, the blind coating and maximum graphene‐coated sample measured 86° and 95°, respectively. The coating process reduced the roughness of the base fabric, and the decrease continued with the increasing graphene ratio. The tear strength values that were 45.5 N in the warp and 53.6 N in the weft direction in the blind coating, increased to 52.2 and 59.1 N, respectively, at the maximum graphene concentration. Due to its excellent durability and steady mechanical qualities, three‐dimensional porous polyurethane foam (PUF) presents a wide range of possibilities for flexible piezoresistive sensors. Its extreme flammability, poor electrical conductivity, and susceptibility to outside factors present serious difficulties, though. In this study, a waterborne polyurethane‐coated flexible PUF sensor that incorporates reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and polyaniline (PANI) through a methodical, step‐by‐step dip‐coating methodology is successfully developed. The final product has a water contact angle of 133°, which improves its ability to adapt to a variety of environmental circumstances. Flexible graphene sheets are incorporated to improve heat resistance and flame retardancy, and PANI and RGO provide strong bonding to the PUF framework, ensuring outstanding structural stability even after 1500 cycles. The flexible foam sensor shows promise for use in flexible piezoresistive sensors and electronic skin due to its remarkable strain monitoring range of up to 70%, quick response time of 0.39 s in sensitivity experiments, and adaptability to different physical activities like walking and gesturing. In this study, a nanohybrid based on montmorillonite (oMMT2) was prepared through a two‐step method using Arquad MCB‐80 and 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) as intercalation agents. The nanohybrid exhibited a basal spacing of 31.5 Å, which contained approximately 12.3% of Arquad MCB‐80 and 31.6% of DOPO. Various amount of oMMT2 nanohybrid was incorporated into a flame‐retardant polyethylene system containing aluminum trihydroxide and red phosphorus with a constant total additive content of 20 wt%. The dispersibility of oMMT2 in the composite matrix was evaluated by energy dispersive x‐ray mapping and x‐ray diffraction analyses. At a content of 3 wt% in the nanocomposite, oMMT2 showed a highly exfoliated state, while at a 5% content, a partially exfoliated and intercalated state was observed. A synergistic flame‐retardant effect between the nanohybrid and the mixture of aluminum trihydroxide and red phosphorus was found. The nanocomposite loading 3 wt% oMMT2 demonstrated the best flame retardancy, achieving a V‐0 rating of the vertical burning test with a limiting oxygen index of 27.6%. Conventional colored radiative cooling (ColPRC) has a single color and limited reflection of visible light bands, which affects its radiative cooling effect, and the introduction of multiple photonic crystal structures can improve its radiative cooling performance. Therefore, in this study, a composite film was established by cross‐linking cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) with CO2‐based waterborne polyurethane (WPU) to obtain multistage structural colors. X‐ray diffraction pattern, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, spectral analysis, and so on were used to examine the structure and properties of the films. The results showed that with the increase of CNC content, the color shifted blue, the crystallinity increased, the flame retardancy increased, but the thermal stability decreased; the addition of WPU assists in resisting moisture; the reflectivity of the multistage structured films is improved in the VIS–NIR range compared with the monochromatic films (an average increase of 5%), which helps to reduce solar irradiation in the visible wavelengths; high emissivity (≈90%) in the atmospheric window, which facilitates deep‐space heat exchange. The maximum temperature difference of the multistage structural color film can reach 6°C under strong solar irradiation. A large amount of toxic smoke and heat generated by the combustion of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) poses a significant threat to human fire escape evacuation. This work aims to use γ -ray to prepare e-MXene@Ag hybrid flame-retardant materials by the method of in-situ reduction, and EVA composites are prepared by melt blending to reduce the smoke and toxic gases produced during combustion significantly. Compared with pure EVA, the total heat release, total smoke release, and the production rate of CO and CO2 produced by the combustion of EVA composite with 1 wt% e-MXene@Ag1.0 decreased by 30.3%, 33.3%, 18.2%, and 20.1% respectively. The fire hazard reduction of EVA composite materials was due to the physical barrier, catalytic carbonization and adsorption of the e-MXene@Ag1.0 hybrid. Aramid fiber/epoxy resin (AF/EP) composite has been heavily used as an impact protection material due to its excellent mechanical properties and lightweight merits. Meanwhile, it is also necessary to concern the flammability of matrix resin and the wick effect of aramid fiber, which would constitute a fire risk in harsh environments. In this work, a multifunctional flame-retardant modifier (EAD) was incorporated into the AF/EP system to improve the flame retardation. The addition of 5 wt% EAD made the AF/EP composite exhibit a high limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 37.5%, self-extinguishment, as well as decreased total heat release and total smoke release. The results from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) demonstrated that the treated composites maintained good thermal stability. Due to the combined action of covalent and noncovalent bonds in the matrix-rich region, the interfacial bonding improved, which endowed AF/EP composite with strengthening and toughening effects. Compared with the control sample AF/EP, the tensile strength and ballistic parameter (V50) of the sample with 5 wt% EAD increased by 17% and 10%, accompanied with ductile failure mode. Furthermore, the flame-retardant mechanism was obtained by analyzing the actions in condensed and gaseous phases. Thanks to good compatibility and interfacial adhesion, the incorporation of EAD solved the inconsistent issue between flame retardancy and mechanical properties, which further expanded the application of AF/EP composite in the protection field. The burning of Ethylene–Propylene–Diene Monomer (EPDM) rubber generates substantial smoke, posing a severe threat to the environment and personal safety. Considering the growing emphasis on safety and environmental protection, conventional non-smoke-suppressing flame retardants no longer satisfy the present application requirements. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop a novel flame retardant capable of suppressing smoke formation while providing flame retardancy. Sepiolite (SEP), a porous silicate clay mineral abundant in silica and magnesium, exhibits notable advantages in the realm of flame retardancy and smoke suppression. This research focuses on the synthesis of two highly efficient flame-retardant smoke suppression systems, namely AEGS and PEGS, using Enteromorpha (EN), graphene (GE), sepiolite (SEP), ammonium polyphosphate (APP), and/or piperazine pyrophosphate (PPAP). The studied flame-retardant systems were then applied to EPDM rubber and the flame-retardant and smoke suppression abilities of EPDM/AEGS and EPDM/PEGS composites were compared. This research concentrates on the developmemnt of sustainable formulation of an environmentally friendly structural composite using an innovative approach, incorporating recycled materials. The primary aim of this research is to utilize the industrial wastes as re-circulated input to make structural materials without using new raw materials. Waste plastic, tanned waste leather, and waste glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) additives. The fabrication employs the hand layup method, and the composite undergoes comprehensive characterization following ASTM standards. According to the results, the composite designation "D" emerged as the most mechanically robust, with a tensile strength of 142 MPa, flexural strength of 195 MPa, compression strength of 156 MPa, interlaminar shear strength of 45 MPa, rail shear strength of 31 MPa, and an impact energy of 4.94 J. Concerning creep behavior, the "E" designation demonstrates minimal creep strain, recording values of 0.0057, 0.0076, and 0.0123 for 5000 s, 10000 s, and 15000 s time frame, respectively. This indicated the addition of 5 vol. % of GFRP additives improved the load-bearing effect. In terms of flammability, the "E" designation exhibits noteworthy flame resistance, with a low flame propagation speed of 10.83 mm/min. Additionally, the "E" designation demonstrates stable hydrophobic behavior, revealing a minimal water absorption percentage of 0.001. This study showcases the potential of the developed composite, emphasizing its mechanical strength, resistance to creep, flame retardancy, and hydrophobic properties, positioning it as an environmentally responsible and versatile material for diverse applications. In this work, FR‐PNX, an alkylphosphate oligomer was introduced into rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) to fabricate FR‐PNX/RPUF composites. The flame retardancy, thermal stability, and combustion properties of composites were investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), thermogravimetric (TG), microcalorimetry (MCC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), et al. The flame retardancy tests demonstrated that the incorporation of 50 phr of FR‐PNX yielded composites that the highest LOI of 23.6 vol% and achieved a V‐0 rating in the UL‐94 test. TG results indicated that FR‐PNX promoted the decomposition of FR‐RPUF in the process, but enhanced the high‐temperature stability of the composites. MCC analyses revealed that the addition of FR‐PNX suppressed the heat release during combustion, and FR‐PNX50/RPUF exhibited the lowest total heat release of 17.3 MJ/m2, a 35% reduction compared to the pure sample. Moreover, the peak heat release rate was decreased to 83.1 W/g, representing a 46.9% reduction compared to pure RPUF. SEM and Raman analyses of the char residue demonstrated that the incorporation of FR‐PNX facilitated the formation of a dense and continuous char layer in the FR‐RPUF, with increased graphitization degree of the char layer, thereby enhancing the composite's fire resistance through the development of a more stable fire barrier. High‐efficient flame retardants (ZrP‐DDM) were synthesized successfully via ion‐exchange method, using diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) modified layered zirconium phosphate (α‐ZrP). Trace addition of ZrP‐DDM in epoxy resins (EP) can enhance the flame‐retardant, smoke‐inhibition, mechanical, and thermal stability properties of EP composites. As shown in the results, ZrP‐DDM exhibits a better synergistic effect than α‐ZrP, and the EP composites containing 0.5 wt% ZrP‐DDM (EP/0.5ZrP‐DDM) show excellent flame‐retardant and smoke‐inhibition properties. Especially, EP/0.5ZrP‐DDM possesses a limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 33.7% with UL94 V‐1 rating, while the EP composites containing 0.5 wt% ZrP (EP/0.5ZrP) has a LOI of 30.1% and fails to achieve the UL94 rating. Furthermore, the peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release rate (THR), and smoke density rating of EP/0.5ZrP‐DDM decrease by 10.2%, 3.7%, and 8.2% compared with EP/0.5ZrP. Based on condensed‐phase product analysis, EP/ZrP‐DDM sample provides a gas source for intumescent char layer, and produces a stable phosphorus‐rich crosslinking structures during combustion, thus decreasing the fire hazard of the composite material. Meanwhile, the introduction of ZrP‐DDM has a less impact on tensile strength of EP composites compared with α‐ZrP, suggesting the addition of ZrP‐DDM effectively enhances the compatibility with the EP matrix, thereby maintaining excellent mechanical properties of the EP matrix. With rapid advances in electronic and communication technology, electromagnetic interference and other problems are becoming increasingly prominent. Thus, electromagnetic interference shielding materials have recently garnered extensive attention. In this study, a multi‐walled carbon nanotube/polyurethane/non‐woven electromagnetic shielding material (CPNW) is developed using impregnation and nonsolvent‐induced‐phase separation techniques. Utilizing a three‐dimensional nonwoven network as the substrate, the "nonwoven fabric‐polyurethane‐carbon nanotube" composite is impregnated and cured via the non‐solvent‐induced‐phase separation method, resulting in a distinctive porous dual‐network structure that ensures robust interfacial bonding between carbon nanotubes, nonwoven fabric, and polyurethane. At a carbon nanotube content of 10% (based on the mass of nonwoven fabric), CPNW exhibited an electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of 28.8 dB, a thermal conductivity of 0.127 W m−1 K−1, and a burning time of 1 min and 15 s, demonstrating outstanding electromagnetic shielding, flame retardant, and infrared stealth capabilities. Overall, this study laid a theoretical groundwork for the development of multifunctional non‐woven electromagnetic shielding materials with widespread application potential in aerospace, military, artificial intelligence, and wearable electronics. The preparation of high‐performance and fire‐safe electrolytes for flexible quasi‐solid‐state supercapacitors is challenging. In this work, a novel fire‐safe and multifunctional deep eutectic solvent gel (DESG) is fabricated using acrylic acid and urea as hydrogen bond donors and choline chloride as a hydrogen bond acceptor. DESG shows a high ionic conductivity (0.552 S m−1), good electrochemical performance (specific capacitance: 106.8 F g−1), and a wide operating temperature range (−20–90 °C), being a promising candidate for flexible solid‐state supercapacitors. Furthermore, it exhibits a good thermoelectric conversion capability (Seebeck coefficient: 1.56 mV K−1), being ideal for thermoelectric capacitors and fire‐warning sensors. The prepared DESG rapidly self‐extinguishes after removal from fire, reaching a limiting oxygen index value of 38.0% and demonstrating its excellent flame retardancy. In addition, DESG has a good self‐healing performance (healing efficiency of 84.3%). Polylactic acid has good biodegradability and processability, but its flammability and serious droplet characteristics limit its development and application. Therefore, developing safer flame‐retardant PLA materials is crucial. This research develops a novel flame‐retardant polylactic acid (PLA) material blend, utilizing aluminum diethylphosphinate (AlPi), piperazine pyrophosphate (PAPP), and β‐cyclodextrin. Optimal synergy occurs at a 5:1 PAPP/β‐CD mass ratio with 4 wt.% AlPi. This combination significantly reduces the heat release peak from 294.89 to 144.21 kW·m−2 and generates non‐combustible residues. The sample forms a stable, uniform carbon layer during combustion due to hydrogen bond crosslinking and Lewis acid–base reactions. The activation energy (Eα) is raised from 264.99 to 281.08 kJ·mol−1 between 312 and 402°C. Thus, an AlPi‐PAPP‐β‐CD based P‐C‐N composite flame retardant is investigated, offering a promising research direction for developing fire‐safe polylactic acid materials. Nanocomposites containing impermeable two‐dimensional materials are of significant interest for protecting metals against corrosion. Incorporating 4‐aminobutyltriethoxysilane (ABES) functionalized tantalum nitride (TaN) into a coating matrix enhances the barrier effect due to TaN's notable chemical and thermal stability. When integrated with graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) in polyurethane (PU), functionalized TaN significantly improves corrosion resistance and fire‐retardant capabilities. Electrochemical evaluations of aluminum coated with varying amounts of functionalized TaN/GCN in PU demonstrated substantial enhancements in protective behavior in chloride environments. The PU nanocomposite exhibited superior flame retardancy, with significant reductions in peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), and total smoke production (TSP) compared to pure PU. Flame retardancy tests demonstrated increased thermal stability, attributed to the synergistic effects between GCN and silanized TaN. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements showed a high coating resistance of 8.89×1011 Ω cm2 for PU/functionalized TaN/GCN, even after 40 days of electrolyte exposure. Additionally, the PU/functionalized TaN/GCN coating demonstrated exceptional water repellency, indicated by a water contact angle (WCA) of 164°. Mechanical tests revealed that PU/functionalized TaN/GCN exhibited favorable adhesion strength and hardness, maintaining integrity even under prolonged immersion. These findings suggest that this nanocomposite is a promising coating component for aerospace applications. This study aimed to improve the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of bacterial cellulose (BC) by introducing cereal proteins, namely zein and gluten. The production conditions were determined by observing residual masses of samples at 1000 ℃ using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). According to the TGA results, the optimized production conditions for the BCs with zein and gluten were combined solvent exchange and entrapment of 20 weight% (wt.%) of zein, and entrapment of 40 wt.% of gluten, respectively. Surface characterization of BC prepared with zein and gluten under the optimal conditions confirmed that the cereal proteins were incorporated into the BC nanostructures via solvent exchange and/or entrapment and the original chemical and crystal structures of BC were not significantly changed. Limiting oxygen index (LOI) analysis confirmed that cereal proteins improved the flame retardancy of BC. In particular, the LOI of BC entrapped with gluten was 50%, which was better than that of cowhide leather. Char morphology analysis confirmed that the as-produced BCs with cereal proteins exhibited condensed-phase flame-retardant mechanism by forming intumescent chars. Analysis of the mechanical properties confirmed that compared with cowhide leather, as-produced BCs with cereal proteins possessed high tensile strength and dimensional stability, making them suitable leather substitutes. The present work is devoted to studying the effect of the synergistic action of Si-O-Si and NH-CO groups on the flammability and thermal properties of polylactide (PLA). For this purpose, using the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) technique, 5, 10, and 15 bilayers of chitosan (CS) and nanosilica (NS) were deposited onto the surface of PLA and PLA/NS composite (PLA/A200). More than a 20% reduction in flammability was achieved (sample (15BL) PLA/A200). Studying the effect of LbL-deposited bilayers on two types of surfaces, an identical relationship was found: the more layers adsorbed, the lower thermal stability, and vice versa the more layers, the higher flame retardancy. In turn, the lower the thermal stability, the faster the ability to form char, and the more solid residue, the lower the flammability and longer the burning time. This means that the application of CS-NS bilayers results in decomposition reactions in the condensed phase, which reduces the amount of flammable gases released. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ammonium polyphosphate (APP), 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphame-10-oxide (DOPO), and melamine polyphosphate (MPP) were intercalated into magnesia-aluminum hydrotalcite (MAH) to obtain intercalation complexes (APP-MAH-6H, DOPO-MAH-6H, MPP-MAH-6H) . EP/DOPO-MAH-6H, EP/APPMAH-6H, and EP/MPP-MAH-6H were prepared by mixing the intercalation complexes and hot curing with epoxy resin (EP) . The structures and properties of EP/DOPO-MAH-6H, EP/APP-MAH-6H, and EP/MPPMAH-6H were characterized by cone calorimetry, vertical combustion, limiting oxygen index（LOI), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Raman spectrum, and their flame retardant properties were investigated. The experimental results show that： Compared with pure EP, the peak heat release rate（pHRR) of EP/DOPOMAH-6H, EP/APP-MAH-6H and EP/MPP-MAH-6H decreased from 1079. 2 kW/m² to 481. 3, 445. 7 and 385. 8 kW/m², respectively, and the LOI increased from 25. 1% to 32. 2%, 32. 9% and 33. 8%, respectively. In addition, in the UL-94 test of vertical combustion, EP/DOPO-MAH-6H, EP/APP-MAH-6H and EP/MPPMAH-6H all achieved V-0 levels. According to SEM, the morphologies of char residue for EP/DOP-MAH-6H and EP/APP-MAH-6H are large and continuous, while the morphologies of char residue for EP/MPP-MAH-6H are dense and continuous. The test results of Raman spectrum show that the three EP composites form a continuous, high-quality carbon layer, which can effectively isolate the transfer of oxygen and heat to the internal matrix during the combustion process. The intumescent flame retardant (IFR) technique is an alternative to halogen-based flame retardants for reducing fire hazards in polymers. However, IFR has drawbacks like unsatisfactory flame-retardant efficiency and high loading requirements. In this study, MIL-125 (Ti-based metal–organic framework) is added to ABS/IFR composites to improve flame retardancy and reduce smoke emissions. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results indicate that combining ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and expandable graphite (EG) increases charred residue and slows mass loss compared with the original ABS resin. The ABS/IFR/MIL-125 system stabilizes the char layer, serving as a protective shield against combustible gases during combustion. Additionally, MIL-125 enhances performance in microscale combustion calorimetry (MCC) flammability testing. In fire tests (UL-94, limiting oxygen index (LOI), and cone calorimeter), the ABS/IFR/MIL-125 system achieves a UL-94 V0 rating and the highest LOI value of 31.5% ± 0.1%. Peak heat lease rate (PHRR) values in the cone calorimeter are reduced by 72% with 20 wt.% of additives, and smoke production decreases by 53% compared with neat ABS. These results demonstrate the efficient synergistic effects of MIL-125 and IFR additives in improving the formation and stability of the intumescent char layer, thereby protecting ABS from intense burning. Toughening the petroleum-based epoxy resin blends with bio-based modifiers without compromising their modulus, mechanical strength, and other properties is still a big challenge in view of the sustainability. In this study, a bio-based liquid crystal epoxy resin (THMT-EP) with an s-triazine ring structure was utilized to modify a petroleum-based bisphenol A epoxy resin (E51) with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) as a curing agent, and the blended systems were evaluated for their thermal stability, mechanical properties, and flame retardancy. The results showed that the impact strength of the blended system initially increased and then decreased with the increase in THMT-EP content, and it reached the a maximum value of 26.5 kJ/m2 when the THMT-EP content was 5%, which was 31.2% higher than that of E51/DDS. Notably, the flexural strength, modulus, and glass transition temperature of the blended system were all simultaneously improved with the addition of THMT-EP. At the same time, the addition of THMT-EP enhanced the flame retardancy of the system by increasing the char yield at 700 °C and decreasing the peak heat release rate and total heat release rate. Cellulose aerogels are considered as ideal thermal insulation materials owing to their excellent properties such as a low density, high porosity, and low thermal conductivity. However, they still suffer from poor mechanical properties and low flame retardancy. In this study, mullite-fibers-reinforced bagasse cellulose (Mubce) aerogels are designed using bagasse cellulose as the raw material, mullite fibers as the reinforcing agent, glutaraldehyde as the cross-linking agent, and chitosan as the additive. The resulted Mubce aerogels exhibit a low density of 0.085 g/cm3, a high porosity of 93.2%, a low thermal conductivity of 0.0276 W/(m∙K), superior mechanical performances, and an enhanced flame retardancy. The present work offers a novel and straightforward strategy for creating high-performance aerogels, aiming to broaden the application of cellulose aerogels in thermal insulation. Rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) is widely utilized in construction and rail transportation due to its lightweight properties and low thermal conductivity, contributing to energy conservation and emission reduction. However, the inherent flammability of RPUF presents significant challenges. Delaying the time to ignition and preventing flame spread post-combustion is crucial for ensuring sufficient evacuation time in the event of a fire. Based on this principle, this study explores the efficacy of using potassium salts as a catalyst to promote the self-cleavage of RPUF, generating substantial amounts of CO2, thereby reducing the local oxygen concentration and delaying ignition. Additionally, the inclusion of a reactive flame retardant (DFD) facilitates the release of phosphorus-oxygen free radicals during combustion, disrupting the combustion chain reaction and thus mitigating flame propagation. Moreover, potassium salt-induced catalytic carbonization and phosphorus derivative cross-linking enhance the condensed phase flame retardancy. Consequently, the combined application of potassium salts and DFD increases the limiting oxygen index (LOI) and reduces both peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR). Importantly, the incorporation of these additives does not compromise the compressive strength or thermal insulation performance of RPUF. Highlights Due to the exceptional flame retardancy, environmental protection, cost‐effectiveness, and ease of processing, halogen‐free flame‐retardant polyethylene (PE) composites are attracting wide attention. However, the addition of halogen‐free flame retardants usually leads to significantly decreased mechanical properties of PE composites, which greatly limits its application. Herein, we report a halogen‐free flame‐retardant PE/ethylene‐vinyl acetate copolymer composite (PE/EVA) with excellent flame retardancy and mechanical properties by combining compatibilizer, crosslinking agent, and carbon fiber. The presence of compatibilizer not only improves the compatibility of halogen‐free flame retardants and matrix, but also interacts with the crosslinking agent to form a cladding structure on the surface of carbon fiber. The enhanced interaction between carbon fiber surface and matrix then results in significantly enhanced flame retardancy and mechanical properties of the composite. Specifically, adding 4 phr compatibilizer, 0.5 phr crosslinking agent, and 10 phr carbon fiber will lead to the halogen‐free flame‐retardant PE/EVA composite with a UL‐94 V‐1 level, limiting oxygen index of 27.1, and an increased tensile strength by 84.02% reaching 19.12 MPa. Moreover, further carbon fiber surface modification can further enhance the flame retardancy of the composite probably due to a synergistic flame‐retardant effect caused by the surface modified nitrogen and silicon elements. As a result, the composite achieves UL‐94 V‐0 level and the limiting oxygen index of 27.7 with well‐retained high tensile strength of 15.19 MPa. This work provides a practical strategy for enhancing the flame retardancy and mechanical property of PE‐based composite simultaneously. Compatibilizer interacts with crosslinking agent to form a cladding structure on the surface of carbon fiber. Crosslinking agent promotes the formation of chemical bonds between modified carbon fiber, compatibilizer, and matrix. Ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and self-made nickel phytate (PANi) were used as modified materials to prepare green biomass rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF). The flame retardancy, thermal stability, smoke toxicity and mechanical properties of the modified RPUF were investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), a cone calorimetry (CONE) test, thermogravimetric analysis and a compression test. The results showed that the RPUF with 10 wt% APP (PANi/APP10) had the highest LOI of 26.5%. Its peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) were reduced by 29.64% and 24.05% compared with PANi/APP0 without APP. And its smoke production rate (SPR) and total smoke release (TSR) decreased by 33.14% and 19.88%, respectively. Compared with pure RPUF, the compressive strength of PANi/APP10 was increased by 50%, mainly because APP itself was an ultra-fine powder, which was better compatible with the matrix and improved the hardness of the material. The results showed that the synergistic effect of the gas phase and the condensed phase mechanism could effectively improve the flame-retardant effect. Pultruded fiber reinforced polymer composites used in civil, power, and offshore/marine applications use fillers as resin extenders and for process efficiency. Although the primary use of fillers is in the form of an extender and processing aid, the appropriate selection of filler can result in enhancing mechanical performance characteristics, durability, and multifunctionality. This is of special interest in structural and high voltage applications where the previous use of specific fillers has been at levels that are too low to provide these enhancements. This study investigates the use of montmorillonite organoclay fillers of three different particle sizes as substitutes for conventional CaCO3 fillers with the intent of enhancing mechanical performance and hygrothermal durability. The study investigates moisture uptake and kinetics and reveals that uptake is well described by a two-stage process that incorporates both a diffusion dominated initial phase and a second slower phase representing relaxation and deterioration. The incorporation of the organoclay particles substantially decreases uptake levels in comparison to the use of CaCO3 fillers while also enhancing stage I, diffusion, dominated stability, with the use of the 1.5 mm organoclay fillers showing as much as a 41.5% reduction in peak uptake as compared to the CaCO3 fillers at the same 20% loading level (by weight of resin). The mechanical performance was characterized using tension, flexure, and short beam shear tests. The organoclay fillers showed a significant improvement in each, albeit with differences due to particle size. Overall, the best performance after exposure to four different temperatures of immersion in deionized water was shown by the 4.8 mm organoclay filler-based E-glass/vinylester composite system, which was the only one to have less than a 50% deterioration over all characteristics after immersion for a year in deionized water at the highest temperature investigated (70 °C). The fillers not only enhance resistance to uptake but also increase tortuosity in the path, thereby decreasing the overall effect of uptake. The observations demonstrate that the use of the exfoliated organoclay particles with intercalation, which have been previously used in very low amounts, and which are known to be beneficial in relation to enhanced thermal stability, flame retardancy, and decreased flammability, provide enhanced mechanical characteristics, decreased moisture uptake, and increased hygrothermal durability when used at particle loading levels comparable to those of conventional fillers, suggesting that these novel systems could be considered for critical structural applications. Natural fibre-reinforced polymer composite (NFRPC) has been introduced as one of the solutions to overcome the ecological and environmental problems accompanying the widespread usage of polymeric materials in every facet of life. However, the organic nature of both natural fibres (NFs) and polymers increases their flammability behaviour, and this, in turn, limits their application. In this regard, this work concentrates on studying the effect of adding flame retardants (FR) to jute-reinforced epoxy composites (JRECs), either by treating the jute fabric with diammonium phosphate (DAP) or adding DAP powder to the epoxy resin matrix on the flame retardancy performance as well as the mechanical properties. The results showed that the effect of the incorporation method of DAP either to jute fabric or to resin matrix has a significant difference on the flammability test results at low concentrations; however, at higher concentrations, the flame retardancy performance is not affected by the technique of adding FR to the composite system. On the other hand, the mechanical properties are significantly affected by the method of incorporating FR to JRECs at all concentrations. Moreover, the results obtained from JRECs with FR systems were evaluated and compared with the literature by constructing selection charts that relate the flame retardancy level to mechanical properties. Thermosetting polymers crosslinked through covalent bonds are widely used in various fields due to their excellent mechanical properties and chemical stability. However, the non-recyclable nature of their fossil-based constituents hinders their post-service recycling and reshaping. This not only results in resource waste but also leads to environmental pollution, contradicting the principles of green and sustainable development. Dynamic covalent crosslinks are incorporated to turn conventional thermoset into covalent adaptable networks (CANs), enabling them to be processible and recyclable via bond exchange under specific stimuli. Normal covalent adaptable networks are highly flammable, which limits their applications and poses safety hazards. This review aims to provide insights to address this challenge. The state of the art of the molecular design of flame retarded CANs is summarized and classified through types of dynamic covalent bonds including classical ester exchange, imine exchange, disulfide exchange, Diels Alder reaction and transformation based on recently developed diselenide bonds, borate esters bonds, phenol carbamate bonds. Mechanical strength, dynamic behavior and flame retardancy of each type of CANs are described and compared quantitatively. The primary goal of the study was to develop a green composite material for safe environmental production of human prosthetics using sea urchin (Echinoidea) spike chitin macromolecules, basalt-encapsulated bamboo fiber and epoxy. The chitin biopolymer was extracted from marine waste sea urchin spikes as first time and characterized for its physicochemical properties. The composites' mechanical properties, wear resistance, thermal conductivity, flame retardancy and water absorption were assessed for their suitability in prosthetic applications. The fabrication process adheres to the hand-layup method and follows American society for testing and materials (ASTM) procedure for characterization. Results revealed that the composite EBC3 exhibits improved tensile strength of 165 MPa, flexural strength of 224 MPa, compression strength of 198 MPa, ILSS (interlaminar shear strength) of 31.9 MPa, and impact energy of 5.8 J. Furthermore, composite EBC4 demonstrated superior wear resistance under varying loads and sliding distances. Additionally, EBC4 exhibits a highest thermal conductivity of 0.72 W/mk and a lower flame propagation speed of 5.72 mm/min. The development of epoxy resin (EP) with simultaneous enhancements in flame retardancy, mechanical performance, and low dielectric properties represents a significant and complex challenge. In this study, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were modified with melamine amino tris-methylene phosphonate (MA) to produce MA-modified HNTs (HMA), which were then integrated into EP to form EP/HMA composites. The incorporation of 1 wt% HMA significantly enhanced the flame retardancy (limit oxygen index up to 29.7%, UL-94 V-0 rating), reduced peak heat release rate by 23.4%, decreased total heat release by 11.9%, reduced total smoke production by 18.4%, and improved mechanical properties (tensile strength by 17.0%, impact strength by 61.0%) compared to pure EP. Additionally, EP/HMA showed a low dielectric constant (3.16) and a dielectric loss (0.019) at 1 GHz. This research presents a versatile strategy for creating multifunctional EP composites with high potential for applications in microelectronics, electronic packaging, and other relevant fields.
