Feminist scholarship has invested attention in popular culture as a terrain upon which understandings of feminism are circulated, contested and explored. This is particularly so in the contemporary moment in which feminism appears to have achieved a new ascendency. But whilst popular culture and feminism are recognised as inextricably enmeshed, there remains the implicit or explicit assumption in feminist scholarship that popular media culture could do 'better', and that there is a more 'authentic' form of feminism waiting to find representation. In response to this context, this article undertakes an analysis of Twitter responses to Celebrity Big Brother: Year of the Woman (2018) in order to explore the ways in which a popular media text provides an arena for the negotiation of popular feminism. Rather than positioning reality TV and celebrity culture as a site of 'ideological ruin' for feminism, this article explores how CBB is discussed in relation to feminism as popular television, and the ways in which this may offer affordances and limitations. This paper seeks to contribute to the thinking on feminism's past and present entanglement with the university and strives to imagine its future. Through a close reading of the opening passage of Derrida's essay 'Mochlos, or The Conflict of the Faculties', I trace 'a university responsibility' which does not lead to a subject conceived as self-identical. Drawing on the works of Hemmings, Scott and Wiegman, I argue that we must assume responsibility which will make us, feminism and the university tremble. This paper argues that envisioning feminist responsibilities as tremendous will allow us to conceive feminism as non-identical to itself and beyond the prerequisite of the sovereign (feminist) subject. It is a well known fact that women were seen as inferior to men in most areas of the life in Victorian England. They were only expected to be good wives and mothers at home. They were taught to be 'angels of their houses'. Most women obeyed the rules of dominant culture while some strived to have jobs outside their homes. Despite the oppression of the patriarchal social structure on women, they could have occupations, such as teaching positions at schools. This study focuses on their role in education, the double standards shown to them in work choices and salary. Physical fitness is historically rooted in the construction of masculinity, making gender inclusive fitness an important part of feminist identity development (Kane & Snyder, 1989). Developed in the 1970s and formalized in early 2000s, CrossFit is a growing fitness movement based on the idea that fitness is a multifaceted way of being and works best when lived in community. Feminist consciousness-raising groups and CrossFit groups have capitalized on the value of community to build engagement, encouragement, and solidarity. Noting that self-care is crucial in the work of student affairs professionals, this article will examine the CrossFit Movement using Downing and Roush's (1985) feminist identity development theory and its intersection with feminist student affairs practice. The authors will share their reflections as CrossFit novices, discussing their unique self-care journeys elaborating on self-worth, intersectional identities, and the value of shared community. Global measurements have become foundational for understanding gender equality as well as for directing resources and policy development to address gendered inequalities. We argue in this article that attempts to quantify gender (in)equality globally have limited potential for successfully challenging gender hierarchies if compared to internationally agreed upon women's rights standards. To make this argument, we start by contrasting the general assumptions underlying the measurement approach with feminist scholarship on gender equality. Second, we examine nine key measures of global gender equality-the majority of which are produced by influential international organizations-and show that their focus on 'countability' perpetuates a narrow and misleading understanding of gender (in)equality. Third, we present the CEDAW Convention and associated review process as an alternative to the measurement approach. The comparison highlights the need for evaluative tools that attend to the complexity and fluidity of gender norms and focus on context-specific agency to confront gender hierarchies. Sweden's self-identity is that of a state sensitive to the protection of women's rights and security, within and across borders. This process is here defined as one of gender cosmopolitanism, which rests on a dual commitment to the protection of women. The piece is informed by an understanding of national borders as porous social constructs, the juridical significance of which can be set aside in consideration of the needs of distant other women. This thesis will be sustained through a deconstruction of the co-constitutive intertextual relationship between Sweden's dual commitment to the combat of gendered violence at home and abroad. The article is situated within thin cosmopolitan interpretations of global obligation across borders. However, such approaches frequently offer gender-blind analysis of global moral dilemmas and, given this, it is important to consider feminist scholarship on ethical obligation. Ethics of care scholarship provides useful insights into the benefits of adopting a relational ontology. However, to fully grasp the ethical underpinnings of gender cosmopolitanism, we need to engage with feminist scholarship that is sympathetic to universal claims. A key argument developed throughout the piece is that feminism provides a good basis for the problematisation of borders as sites of social, political and economic inclusion and exclusion. The last part of the article offers a discursive analysis of two sets of official documents on Sweden's protection of women from gendered violence, drawing upon broad feminist critical reflection. It is argued that Swedish gender cosmopolitanism is constituted within universalism, while being firmly grounded in typically national preferences for gender equality. This is indicative of the employability of cosmopolitanism as a moral platform for the analysis of specific states' problematising of borders as sites of inclusion and exclusion. Whereas the feminist and historical-sociological approaches to the study of social life have several elements in common, because they developed through different intellectual trajectories they are informed by specific methodological emphases and research concerns. Although they have traveled on different, if crisscrossing, paths, however, there are areas in which historical sociology may benefit from feminist concerns and methodology, and, conversely, the accomplishments of historical sociology that, considering current tendencies in feminist scholarship, may be helpful to the latter.
