The accelerating pace of technological advancements necessitates specialised expertise and cutting‐edge instruments to maintain competitive research in life sciences. Core facilities – collaborative laboratories equipped with state‐of‐the‐art tools and staffed by expert personnel – are vital resources that support diverse scientific endeavours. However, their adoption in lower‐income communities has been comparatively stagnant due to both financial and cultural challenges. This paper explores the perils of not supporting core facilities on national research enterprises, underscoring the need for balanced investments in discovery science and crucial infrastructure support. We explore the implications from the perspectives of funders, university leaders and lab heads. We advocate for a paradigm shift to recognise these facilities as essential components of national research efforts. Here we outline a vignette of the Bioscience Technology Facility (BTF) at the University of York as a singular exemplar of the Full Cost Recovery model. It is fully appreciated that every facility operates slightly differently, and each are subject to various rules at the institutional, regional and national level. Understanding the regulations that need to be followed for your cost recovery model may require discussion with your administrators to ensure compliance regulations for your Institution and governing bodies are followed. The below is almost a pick and mix of ways of working. It is, however, one of the few examples that is able to fully recover its operating costs within an academic environment and has sought and obtained full institutional and funders support. Microscopy core facilities are increasingly utilised research resources, but they are generally only available to users within the host institution. Such localised access misses an opportunity to facilitate research across a broader user base. Here, we present the model of an open‐access microscopy facility, using the Advanced Imaging Center (AIC) at Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Research Campus as an example. The AIC has pioneered a model whereby advanced microscopy technologies and expertise are made accessible to researchers on a global scale. We detail our experiences in addressing the considerable challenges associated with this model for those who may be interested in launching an open‐access imaging facility. Core facilities are research laboratories staffed by professional scientists who can provide access, training, support, and maintenance for the utilisation of highly specialised instrumentation. Microscopy core facilities support researchers working in many areas with wide ranging imaging needs. The companies that manufacture, sell, and service advanced microscopy instrumentation often develop strong and mutually beneficial relationships with their customers, which sometimes lead to contractual agreements with academic research institutions, resulting in so‐called 'branded' core facilities. These academic‐industrial partnerships can have significant benefits for both parties and ultimately can serve to improve the scientific resources available to the core facility user base. The article will describe these types of arrangements and specifically highlight aspects of these agreements that can benefit each partner in addition to some specific challenges that can arise with 'branded' core facilities. In this case study on volume determination in waste sorting facilities, we evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasonic sensors and address waste-material-specific challenges. Although ultrasonic sensors offer a cost-effective automation solution, their accuracy is affected by irregular waste shapes, varied compositions, and environmental factors. Notable inconsistencies in volume measurements between storage bunkers and conveyor belts underscore the need for a comprehensive approach to standardize bale production. With prediction reliability being constrained by limited datasets, undocumented modifications to machine settings, and sensor failures, this task renders a challenging application area for machine learning. We explore related research and present dataset analyses from three distinct waste sorting facilities in Europe, addressing issues such as sensor usability, data quality, and material specifics. In light of a collapsing healthcare system in Sudan, attacks on healthcare institutions and staff have markedly increased since the eruption of war on the 15th of April, costing many precious lives and valuable hospitals. Around 60 attacks on health facilities have been reported so far, many occupied by one or the other sides of the conflict, and the rest exhibit medication shortages and safety issues; hence, two-thirds of the medical centers are nonfunctioning. More than 200 violations against medical staff were recorded all over the country, which led to the death of 38 healthcare workers. Killing, kidnapping, and assaulting doctors, consequently led to a huge shortage in staff in the few barely working facilities, as the remaining health workers were concerned regarding their safety. Recommendations consisted of ceasing fire, restoring and resuming healthcare services, and insurance of a safe working environment. Networks of fixed-point continuous monitoring systems are becoming widely used in the detection and quantification of methane emissions from oil and gas facilities in the United States. Regulatory agencies and operators are developing performance metrics for these systems, such as minimum detection limits. Performance characteristics, such as minimum detection limits, would ideally be expressed in emission rate units; however, performance parameters such as detection limits for a continuous monitoring system (CMS) will depend on meteorological conditions, the characteristics of emissions at the site where the CMS is deployed, the positioning of CMS devices in relation to the emission sources, and the amount of time allowed for the CMS to detect an emission source. This means that certifying the performance of a CMS will require test protocols with well-defined emission rates and durations; initial protocols are now being used in field tests. Field testing results will vary, however, depending on meteorological conditions and the time allowed for detection. This work demonstrates methods for evaluating CMS performance characteristics using dispersion modeling and defines an approach for normalizing test results to standard meteorological conditions using dispersion modeling. Objectives: To analyze spatial disparities in urban living service facilities based on supply and demand service levels, we not only detect the spatial distribution characteristics of facilities, but also gain indepth insights into the underlying causes of these differences. Methods: This paper specifically focuses on Jianghan district in Wuhan city and conducts a case study by using the food market as a representative facility. The analysis involves constructing spatial disparity in accessibility of services (SDAS) index to assess the disparities between the supply and demand of life service facilities. Subsequently, SDAS is optimized by an improved gravity model based on the road traffic network and income levels of residents. Results: The results show that most community units in Jianghan district exhibit a high level of disparity between supply and demand, with notable differences observed in Wangjiadun central business district. The service capacity of life service facilities around communities significantly influences SDAS value under various conditions. The multi-mode case provides a more comprehensive reflection of the spatial differences between the facility accessibility and the needs of community units, offering a nuanced view of the actual situation. Conclusions: The results contribute to shaping city structure and facilitating optimal allocation of life service facility resources. In order to solve the existing problem of the combination of traffic signs at typical grassland highway intersections, the combination setting of intersection traffic engineering facilities was optimized. Through simulation experiments, the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals of 40 drivers were collected, clustered into 5 (MS1—MS5) microstate topographic maps, and the reaction time and duration, coverage, frequency of occurrence and conversion probability of the drivers were statistically analyzed. The experimental results showed that the default network and the dorsal attention network in the driver's EEG microstate played a major role in the cognitive process of the combination of traffic facilities at the grassland highway intersection. The duration of MS4 and the conversion probability of MS1—MS3 increased with the increase of transportation facilities, which can be used as direct indicators to evaluate driver's cognitive load. Microstate indicators and reaction time trend analysis found that at the information level C, that was, the combination of four traffic engineering facilities, the driver's brain state had the best performance, the strongest cognitive ability, the smaller load and the fastest response. Botswana has achieved a lot in education development since the country's independence in 1966. Public education funding and access increased significantly, literacy rates rose, more schools were constructed and student enrolment rates increased at both primary and secondary schools. However, this paper argues that Botswana's education system has been declining over the past 10 years, but that is concealed by the use of political spectacle. The data collected from secondary sources were used and subjected to content analysis. The findings show high public education expenditure and access in Botswana, but high failure rates; success narratives and pronouncements without commitment to educational effectiveness and efficiency; massive construction of public schools, but poor teaching–learning conditions; and trivialization of meaningful education reforms. This paper concludes by recommending the introduction of learner-friendly methods of assessment, improving teacher–government relations, the inclusion of stakeholders in education decision-making and the implementation of cost–benefit and cost-effectiveness measures in Botswana's education. The MAC end-station at the ELI Beamlines facility is a multipurpose user's station for atomic, molecular, and optical sciences and coherent diffractive imaging. The technical design of the station, the available instruments, and an overview of the whole beamline have been published in Eur. Phys. J. Spec. Top. 230, 4183 (2021). Here, we address ongoing upgrades of the MAC end-station that will provide users with advanced capabilities for beam manipulation and electron/ion detection. The upgrades include (i) the installation of a beam preparation chamber in front of the MAC chamber, (ii) a magnetic bottle electron spectrometer with high collection and detection efficiency and high energy resolution, and (iii) an event-driven TPX3CAM detector for velocity map imaging spectrometer, which provides both spatial and temporal information for each pixel. We present results from the first commissioning measurements with these instruments, confirming their performance for state-of-the-art experiments in atomic, molecular, and optical sciences. ELI Beamlines is a newly constructed petawatt (PW) laser-based accelerator facility. Its flagship laser has a nominal peak power of 10 PW with a pulse duration of 150 fs. The radiation fields emerging from the laser-target interactions will be pulsed and made of mixed particles of high intensity and energy, thus posing new and daunting challenges compared to conventional radiation protection. The civil engineering constraints of a laser facility bring localized weaknesses to the shielding structures. The ultrashort pulses in conjunction with ultrahigh dose rates strain the capabilities of the commercially available radiation detectors. The complexity of modeling laser-target interactions and the resulting ionizing radiation complicates the radiation protection calculations. This paper is a review of the radiation protection challenges at ELI Beamlines, the adopted solutions, and the practices to minimize the harmful effects of ionizing radiation linked to its activities. Background: Globally, there is a concerning surge in the prevalence of substance use among adolescents and children, creating a substantial public health problem. Despite the magnitude of this issue, accessing healthcare explicitly for substance use remains challenging, even though many substance users frequently visit healthcare institutions for other health-related issues. To address this gap, proactive screening for substance use disorders has emerged as a critical strategy for identifying and engaging patients at risk of substance use. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of probable alcohol and other substance use disorders, and associated factors, among children aged 6 to 17 years old attending health facilities in Mbale, Uganda. Methods: We conducted a health facility cross-sectional study, involving 854 children aged 6–17 years. The prevalence of probable alcohol and other substance use disorders was assessed using a validated Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Friends, Trouble (CRAFFT) screening tool. Univariable and multivariable modified Poisson regression analyses were performed using STATA 15 software. Results: The overall prevalence of probable alcohol use disorders (AUD) and other substance use disorders (SUD) was 27.8% (95% CI 1.24–1.31) while that of probable AUD alone was 25.3% (95% CI 1.22–1.28). Peer substance use (APR = 1.24, 95% CI 1.10–1.32), sibling substance use (APR = 1.14, 95% CI 1.06–1.23), catholic caregiver religion (APR = 1.07 95% CI 1.01–1.13), caregiver income of more than $128 (APR = 0.90, 95% CI 0.82–0.98), having no parental reprimand for substance use (APR = 1.05, 95% CI 1.01–1.10) and having no knowledge of how to decline an offer to use substances (APR = 1.06, 95% CI 1.01–1.12) were found to be significantly associated with probable AUD/SUD. Conclusions: Our findings suggest a high prevalence of probable AUD and SUD among children and adolescents visiting healthcare facilities for other conditions, along with a strong link between AUD and SUD prevalence and social factors. Two microwave transponders have been operating in west Crete and Gavdos to calibrate international satellite radar altimeters at the Ku-band. One has been continuously operating for about 8 years at the CDN1 Cal/Val site in the mountains of Crete, and the other at the GVD1 Cal/Val site on Gavdos since 11 October 2021. This ground infrastructure is also supported at present by four sea-surface Cal/Val sites operating, some of them for over 20 years, while two additional such Cal/Val sites are under construction. This ground infrastructure is part of the European Space Agency Permanent Facility for Altimetry Calibration (PFAC), and as of 2015, it has been producing continuously a time series of range biases for Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B, Sentinel-6 MF, Jason-2, Jason-3, and CryoSat-2. This work presents a thorough examination of the transponder Cal/Val responses to understand and determine absolute biases for all satellite altimeters overflying this ground infrastructure. The latest calibration results for the Jason-3, Copernicus Sentinel-3A and -3B, Sentinel-6 MF, and CryoSat-2 radar altimeters are described based on four sea-surface and two transponder Cal/Val sites of the PFAC in west Crete, Greece. Absolute biases for Jason-3, Sentinel-6 MF, Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B, and CryoSat-2 are close to a few mm, determined using various techniques, infrastructure, and settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The disheartening reality sheds light on the tragic consequences that can arise from inaction and inefficiencies in maternal healthcare systems, often leading to devastating outcomes for mothers and their families. Among the multifaceted causes of maternal deaths, one deeply concerning aspect is the phenomenon of "maternal deaths due to delays". Objective: To explore the pervasive issue of maternal deaths due to delays, distance, different referrals highlighting the discrepancies in the system. Materials and Methods: It was a descriptive cross sectional study done in selected district (Jabalpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Katni) of Jabalpur division of Madhya Pradesh, India for a period of 1 year from April 2021 to March 2022. A total of 68 maternal deaths were reviewed out of 324 total maternal deaths in Jabalpur division in 2019-2020. Results: Pathway analysis of the maternal deaths were drawn to illustrate the Referrals of the maternal deaths in various health care facilities. About 42(61%) of the deceased mothers were referred to two facilities. 17(25 %) and 3 (5%) of the deceased mothers were referred to third and fourth health facilities respectively. Major causes of the delays were identified was the No birth preparedness by the family/deceased mother, inadequate referral system and shortage of staff in the facilities, Lack of encouragement from relatives & community members to seek care. Conclusion: The delays require a multi-faceted approach involving improved healthcare infrastructure, increased access to skilled healthcare professionals, community education, removing financial barriers, promoting respectful and patient-centred care, and addressing cultural and societal norms that discourage timely care-seeking. The Shanghai Soft X-ray Free-Electron Laser (SXFEL) is the first X-ray freeelectron laser facility in China. The SASE beamline, which consists of a pinkbeam branch and a mono-beam branch, is one of the two beamlines in the Phase-I construction. The pink-beam branch opened for users in 2023 after successful first-round beamline commissioning. In this paper, the design of the beamline is presented and the performance of the pink-beam branch is reported. The measured energy-resolving power of the online spectrometer is over 6000 @ 400 eV. In 2021, ECU Library embarked on a year-long user experience project to explore students' experiences of a newly refurbished space and investigate what facilities and services students would like to see at a new city campus to be opened in 2025. The study employed a number of user experience and ethnographic methods including observation, interviews, surveys, focus groups and surveys, and worked in partnership with library peer assistants to collect data. Students want a library of the future that offers a variety of flexible informal study spaces, good lighting, comfortable and ergonomic furniture, visible services, and access to technology. A local deformation analysis method of buildings based on point cloud surface feature constraints is presented herein. First, the point cloud is pre-processed and segmented to obtain point cloud data of each surface of the building. Second, the surface features of point cloud data are recognized and judged. Based on the surface type, the surface fitting calculation is carried out for the point cloud data, and the characteristic parameters of each surface of the building are obtained. Then, the dimensional and structural constraints of each building surface are calculated. Finally, according to the feature constraint relationship of building surfaces, the spatial position relationship between building surfaces is judged, and the local deformation between surfaces is analysed. Experiments show that this method can judge the local deformation of different parts of the building, analyse and evaluate the safety of the building from multiple local perspectives, and improve the accuracy and reliability of building deformation analysis. We consider a competitive facility location problem with two competing parties operating in a situation of uncertain demand scenarios. The problem of finding the best solutions for the parties is formulated as a discrete bilevel mathematical programming problem. A procedure for computing an upper bound for the objective function on solution subsets is suggested. The procedure could be employed in implicit enumeration schemes capable of computing an optimal solution for the problem under study. Within the procedure, additional constraints (cuts) iteratively augment the high-point relaxation of the initial bilevel problem, which strengthens the relaxation and improves the upper bound's quality. This research aims to test whether there is a correlation and influence between: a) Facilities (X1) and Performance (Y); b) Competency (X2) and Performance (Y); c) Facilities (X1) and Competence (X2) simultaneously with Performance (Y). Then the test results to find the significance of the influence, obtained the results that 1) there is no significant influence between Facilities (X1) on Performance (Y), 2) Competence (X2) has a significant effect on Performance (Y), and 3) Facilities (X1) and Competency (X2) simultaneously influences the Performance (Y) of the State Civil Apparatus of North Langowan District Office. Purpose: The appreciation of peer support can vary from one country to another due to the cultural and relational differences. This study explores what perceptions French adolescents and young adults (AYAs) in post-treatment for cancer have of the place of sick peers during their treatment and what can make barriers to meet them. Methods: A semistructured interview has been proposed 6 months after the end of cancer treatments. A thematic analysis has been conducted to highlight the major themes and subthemes identified through the participants' discourses. Results: Twelve AYAs (mean age 23 y.o., standard deviation = 2.8; min = 19; max = 26) from two French cancer centers were interviewed. Five major themes were identified, but only two were presented in this article: the place of peers and the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic on AYA facilities. AYA peers with cancer major theme demonstrated that meeting sick peers has benefits (e.g., identification, understanding, support, feeling of normalcy) but also has disadvantages (e.g., negative emotional influence). The benefits of peer-to-peer meetings seem to outweigh the disadvantages. Nevertheless, AYAs can face social barriers to this kind of relationship (e.g., fatigue, need to focus on oneself, confrontation to cancer and negative events, feeling of unnatural meeting). Finally, patients' encounters and the normal functioning of AYA facilities have been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Even if AYA services systematically suggest a meeting with other sick peers, it is important to reiterate this proposal since the needs can evolve over time. The main objective of the study was to investigate the status of early childhood care and education (ECCE) from a quality perspective using concurrent mixed-method research. Participants of this study were 161 teachers and 35 principals (total 196) from government and private preschools and 4 supervisors. A questionnaire, observation, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions were used to collect the data. Data gathered through questionnaires were analysed quantitatively, while qualitative data analysis was used for data collected through observations, semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. The quantitative result showed that most preschool teachers have no training in ECCE. The qualitative data confirmed that poor infrastructure; less involvement of parents; unqualified teachers; absence of harmony in curricula between private and government preschools; problems related to hygiene; and poor quality assurance strategies were the major challenges. In conclusion, the status of early childhood care and education in the selected sites is poor. Therefore, capacity-building programmes targeting teachers' training and fulfilment of developmentally appropriate outdoor and indoor facilities are priority areas of intervention. Solar greenhouses have been widely used in modern precision agriculture in China. However, potential negative environmental impacts can also be introduced, including atmospheric pollution, soil contamination, and water pollution. Great challenges have been posed on the rational management of farmlands and resource utilization. Meanwhile, the manual collection of visual data cannot fully meet the rapid acquisition of information from large-scale greenhouse facilities. In this study, Chinese solar greenhouses (CSGs) were focused on detecting the damage levels from the remote sensing images using an improved YOLO-DLSG (YOLO-damage level of solar greenhouse) object detection model. Comparative experiments were conducted using high-resolution solar greenhouse remote sensing image datasets. A dataset was collected with the 3235 images of solar greenhouses and then subjected to data augmentation. The classification standards were also combined with the damage indicators specific to solar greenhouses. The damage levels were then established from the high-resolution remote sensing satellite images. The YOLOv5s lightweight improvement was employed to reconstruct the YOLOv5s backbone with the lightweight MobileNetV3 architecture. This restructure reduced the channel dimensions and network parameter volume. Furthermore, the upsampling operator in the neck layers was replaced and then updated. A lightweight upsampling operator was selected as CARAFE (content-aware reassembly feature embedding), using an upsampled kernel prediction module. The feature recombination module was reconstructed in the upsample structure. EVCBlock (explicit visual center block) was utilized to further reduce the computational complexity for the high accuracy of detection on rotating objects. Finally, the CIoU (complete intersection over union) loss function for the target bounding box regression was replaced with the EIoU (Enhanced Intersection over Union) loss, in order to accelerate the convergence of the prediction box regression loss function for the high accuracy of prediction box regression. The experimental results show that the improved model reduced the number of parameters and floating-point operations per second by 17.91 and 15.19 percentage points, with an increase of 0.4 and 0.8 percentage points in the precision and mean average precision, respectively. Compared with the current mainstream lightweight models, such as SSD, Faster R-CNN, Centernet, YOLOv3-spp, and YOLOv3-tiny, the improved YOLO-DLSG model demonstrated superior performance, in terms of accuracy, recall, detection speed, and model lightweight. Data collection and accuracy validation were conducted in the Yangling Agricultural Demonstration Zone in Shaanxi Province of China. An average recognition accuracy of 84.00% was achieved in the improved model. A challenging task was to determine the distribution, quantity, and extent of greenhouse damage in a cost-effective, efficient, and user-friendly manner. 【Objective】In modern vegetable facility cultivation, the quality of vegetable seedlings plays a very important role in the economic benefits of subsequent agricultural production. Continuous light is a common special light mode in artificial light plant factory. Exploring the effect of continuous light combined with light quality on the growth and development of pepper seedlings could provide an important technical reference for efficiently improving the resistance of pepper seedlings.【Method】The pepper backbone parent ‘6421’ was used as the test material, and 6 light treatment groups were set up: normal white light irradiation group (CW), normal blue light irradiation group (CB), normal red light irradiation group (CR), continuous white light irradiation group (TW), continuous blue light irradiation group (TB) and continuous red light irradiation group (TR). The effects of continuous photoperiod treatment combined with red and blue light on the growth and physiological characteristics of pepper seedlings were studied.【Result】 (1) TR significantly increased the plant height and stem diameter of pepper seedlings by 20.5% and 10.6%, respectively, compared with the CW group. After TR treatment, the seedling index increased significantly by 2.38 times, while TB significantly reduced the plant height and stem diameter of pepper seedlings by 17.1% and 14.3%, and the root-shoot ratio increased significantly by 2.62 times. (2) There was no significant difference in Pn and Gs of pepper seedling leaves between TR and TB, but Tr and Ci of TB were significantly lower than those of TR. Compared with CW, Tr and Ci of TB were significantly reduced by 62.5% and 51.1%. The chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of pepper seedling leaves showed opposite results after different light treatments. The Fv/Fm, Fv/Fo, NPQ and qP values of pepper seedling leaves in TB group were significantly higher than those in TR group. The qP of TB and TR was significantly higher than that of CW, increasing by 36.1% and 26.1%, respectively. (3) The antioxidant enzyme activity and osmotic substances of pepper seedlings were significantly different after continuous red light treatment and continuous blue light treatment. TB significantly increased SOD, POD and CAT in leaves of pepper seedlings. The POD and CAT activities of pepper seedling leaves were also significantly increased after TR treatment, while the MDA content of pepper leaves after TB and TR treatments was significantly reduced by 55%-56% compared with that of CW. 【Conclusion】Continuous light conditions have a positive effect on the growth and development of pepper seedlings at the seedling stage, and the antioxidant enzyme activity and osmotic substances of pepper seedlings under continuous light irradiation combined with monochromatic red and monochromatic blue light treatments increase to different degrees to better counteract the light stress environment and improve the adaptability of pepper seedlings. According to the results of the research conducted on the basis of samples taken from the fields, surfactants, i.e., methanol, used to prevent the hydrate formation in production facilities, pipelines for the purpose of preventing accidents, failures, and the risk of environmental pollution there are many possibilities to optimize the amount of reagents required. In the next stage, methanol can be captured and reused through the diethylene glycol regeneration unit. By capturing methanol from the gas phase and regenerating both methanol itself and the diethylene glycol inhibitor, it is possible to protect the environment and minimize the risks that may occur in technological processes. Environmental effects may lead to cracking, stiffness loss, brace damage, and other damages in bridges, frame structures, buildings, etc. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technology could prevent catastrophic events by detecting damage early. In recent years, Deep Learning (DL) has developed rapidly and has been applied to SHM to detect, localize, and evaluate diverse damages through efficient feature extraction. This paper analyzes 337 articles through a systematic literature review to investigate the application of DL for SHM in the operation and maintenance phase of facilities from three perspectives: data, DL algorithms, and applications. Firstly, the data types in SHM and the corresponding collection methods are summarized and analyzed. The most common data types are vibration signals and images, accounting for 80% of the literature studied. Secondly, the popular DL algorithm types and application areas are reviewed, of which CNN accounts for 60%. Then, this article carefully analyzes the specific functions of DL application for SHM based on the facility's characteristics. The most scrutinized study focused on cracks, accounting for 30 percent of research papers. Finally, challenges and trends in applying DL for SHM are discussed. Among the trends, the Structural Health Monitoring Digital Twin (SHMDT) model framework is suggested in response to the trend of strong coupling between SHM technology and Digital Twin (DT), which can advance the digitalization, visualization, and intelligent management of SHM. Apart from working as fishermen, the coastal community in Kapedi Village also catch fish by planting bagan in coastal waters. Bagan is very effective as a fishing tool. The fish caught using this bagan are of good quality and are not physically damage so that they can compete in traditional markets. Besides that, catching fish using a bagan is not too risky for the safety of the fishermen. Almost all of the fishermen from Kapedi Village stopped fishing by boat and switched to planting bagan on the surface of the coastal waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the practice of controlling coastal waters by traditional fishermen who plant bagan fishing gear and to assess the suitability of these traditional fishing activities based on existing regulations. To achieve the objectives of this study, empirical juridical research methods have been used with a fact approach. The results of the study show that the traditional fisherman planting bagan in Kapedi Village is one of the subjects who can take advantage of sea space, therefore they are required to have Sea Space Utilization Activity Conformity (Kesesuaian Pemanfaatan Ruang Laut) issued by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. All bagan planting activities on the surface of coastal waters are required to have a Sea Space Utilization Activity Conformity (KPRL) Form of Sea Space Utilization Activity Suitability for fishermen in Kapedi Village based on Government Regulation Number 21 year 2021 in the form of facilitation by the Regional Government. Background: The disability of stroke patients remains an important global health problem; yet information on the extent of restriction from basic and instrumental activities of daily living is limited, particularly in lower-and middle-income (LMIC) countries. Therefore, we examined the issue under the caption, since it is the first step in planning several rehabilitation services. Method: A facility-based cross-sectional study was done to assess the magnitude and predictors of post-stroke limitations in basic activities of daily living (BADL) using the Barthel Index (BI) scale and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) using the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI) scale among patients who visited Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Neurology Clinic from April-October, 2022. All patients having a diagnosis of stroke for more than six months duration were enrolled. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were done, and measures of estimated crude and adjusted odds ratio with 95% CI were constructed and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The results are presented in figures and tables. Results: A total of 150 stroke patients were enrolled in the present study. The mean age of participants was 53 (14.9) years with slight male preponderance (51.3%). Ischemic stroke was present in 106 (70.7%) of them, while 44 (29.3%) had hemorrhagic stroke. Of this, 57 (38%) and 115 (79.3%) of them had limitations in basic and instrumental ADL, respectively. Comorbid cardiac disease (AOR = 6.9; 95%CI = 1.3–37.5) and regular substance use (AOR = 11.1; 95%CI = 1.1–115) were associated with limitations in BADL, while an increase in age (AOR = 1.1; 95%CI = 1.04–1.15) was associated with severe limitations in BADL. Initial stroke severity (AOR = 7.3; 95%CI = 1.2–44.7) was associated with limitations in IADL, whereas depression (AOR = 5.1; 95%CI = 1.1–23.2) was identified as a predictor of severe limitation in IADL. Conclusion: Limitation in activities of daily living (ADL) after stroke is common among Ethiopian patients. The modern objectives of libraries could facilitate the provision and use of prison library services and resources. The purpose of the research was to investigate how academic library resources and services are available and accessible to prison inmates in distance education programme. The descriptive survey design was employed in the collection and analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data. The study was conducted at the Nsawam Maximum Prison involving fifty-seven (57) student inmates in the distance education programme of the University of Cape Coast and two (2) Prison Library staff. The study found that facilities and information resources in prison libraries do not meet the learning and research needs of inmates in the higher distance learning programme. This paper analyses the readiness of African Universities to employ virtual classrooms in order to achieve their throughput in students' course completion on record time. The paper is both conceptual and empirical in nature. Interviewing technique and documents review were employed to generate data pertaining to promoting teaching and learning that go beyond the on-campus routine of physical delivery of lectures to students. Research findings revealed that firstly, African universities were found to be under-resourced for virtual classrooms. Secondly, the bulk of the African Universities were not ready for the imposed virtual classrooms. Thirdly, the curricula rolled out at African Universities is not designed to suit the "new normal" of digital teaching and learning. Fourthly, there is a great mismatch of the curriculum roll out and the available facilities at African Universities. Lastly, there are technical limitations for students who are at a different digital literacy levels. The researcher recommends for the gradual approach of shifting from the contact kind of teaching and learning at universities to a digital one where virtual classrooms are the "new normal" for every African University, irrespective of its geographical location. Inpatient antimicrobial stewardship (AS) programs are quality improvement programs tasked with improving antibiotic practices by augmenting frontline providers' antibiotic prescription. Prospective audit and feedback (PAF) and preauthorization (PRA) are essential activities in the hospital that can be resource intensive for AS teams. Improving efficiency in AS activities is needed when there are limited resources or when programs are looking to expand tasks beyond PAF and PRA, such as broad education or guideline development. Guidance on the creation and maintenance of alerts for the purpose of PAF reviews, modifications of antibiotic restrictions for PRA polices, and overall initiative prioritization strategies are reviewed. In addition, daily prioritization tools, such as the tiered approach, scoring systems, and regression modeling, are available for stewards to prioritize their daily workflow. The method of evaluating passengers’ walking convenience is critical for guiding the planning, design and optimization of an airport’s comprehensive transportation hub. Firstly, the smoothness evaluation index was constructed to capture the spatial layout characteristics of transfer facilities and to develop the walking convenience evaluation index system based on speed and timeliness. The spatial comprehensibility factor was then added to quantify the impact of complicated spatial visibility on passengers’ walking behavior. An evaluation method of walking convenience was proposed based on spatial experience. Finally, the differences in the level of walking convenience of each transportation mode at Nanjing Lukou Airport（NKG）were analyzed. The results showed that the evaluation method is more objective and accurate than the traditional methods, and the lowest walking convenience is from the metro station to the check-in hall of T1. To determine the bidirectional transmittance distribution function (BTDF) of diffusely transmitting materials, two new primary facilities have been developed at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Aalto University (Aalto). A detailed description of both facilities and the different approaches used are presented in this paper. The performance of both facilities is compared by determining the BTDF of two different diffuser types in both in-plane and out-of-plane bidirectional geometries at four different wavelengths in the visible spectral range. Due to delayed completion of PTB's primary facility, the measured BTDF values are compared between Aalto's primary facility and another PTB setup, whose measurement scales are successfully transferred to PTB's primary facility by an internal comparison. A thorough analysis of the measurement uncertainty is presented, leading to a combined k = 1 standard uncertainty of 0.8%–1.2% for PTB's primary facility and 1.3%–1.7% for Aalto's primary facility. The BTDF results obtained agree well within their expanded k = 2 uncertainty. This indirect bilateral comparison shows that Aalto's and PTB's new facilities are suited as primary reference setups for the determination of the BTDF. These studies also reveal action points to improved measurement capabilities and for a reduction of the measurement uncertainty, depending on the type of diffuser under test. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
