1. Characterizing water solubility of fresh and aged secondary organic aerosol in PM2.5 with the stable carbon isotope technique

Abstract: The investigation of the water-soluble characteristics of secondary organic carbon (SOC) is essential for a more comprehensive understanding of its climate effects. However, due to the limitations of the existing source apportionment methods, the water solubility of different types of SOC remains uncertain. This study analyzed stable carbon isotope and mass spectral signatures of total carbon (TC) and water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) in ambient PM2.5 samples for 1 year and established stable carbon isotope profiles of fresh and aged SOC. Furthermore, a Bayesian stable isotope mixing (BSIM) model was employed to reveal the water solubility characteristics of fresh and aged SOC in a coastal megacity of China. WSOC was dominated by secondary sources, with fresh and aged SOC contributing 28.1 % and 45.2 %, respectively. Water-insoluble organic carbon (WIOC) was dominated by primary sources, to which fresh and aged SOC contributed 23.2 % and 13.4 %. We also found that the aging degree of SOC has considerable impacts on its water solubility due to the much higher water-soluble fraction of aged SOC (76.5 %) compared to fresh SOC (54.2 %). Findings of this study may provide a new perspective for further investigation of the hygroscopicity effects of SOC with different aging degrees on light extinction and climate change.

2. Structured porous 17-PH stainless steel layer fabrication through laser powder bed fusion

Abstract: ABSTRACTThis study aimed to fabricate thin, porous layers of 17-4 PH stainless steel with a defined porosity using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). The central composite design (CCD) approach was utilized to examine the effect of process parameters on porosity. Three different methods were employed to measure the porosity of 17-4 PH stainless steel samples, i.e. theoretical analysis, buoyancy, and X-ray computed tomography (X-CT). A statistical quadratic regression model is generated that correlates with LPBF parameters to forecast porosity with high prediction accuracy. The maximum obtained porosity is 51.25% ± 0.33% with a laser power of 60 W, a scanning speed of 1800 mm/s, and a hatch spacing of 0.115 mm, which resulted in an average pore size of 24.8 ± 0.38 µm. Permeability was also analysed, as the volume energy density decrease ranges from 19.30 to 14.22 J/mm3, the permeability coefficient increases from 1.39 to 9.41 × 10−11 m2. In addition, it is observed that the minimum energy density to fabricate the 17-4 PH SS with the highest porosity and free of defects and fragmentation is 14.2 J/mm3.

3. Investigation of the functional relationship between antecedent rainfall and the probability of debris flow occurrence in Jiangjia Gully, China

Abstract: A larger antecedent effective precipitation (AEP) indicates a higher probability of a debris flow (Pdf) being triggered by subsequent rainfall. Scientific topics surrounding this qualitative conclusion that can be raised include what kinds of variation rules they follow and whether there is a boundary limit. To answer these questions, Jiangjia Gully in Dongchuan, Yunnan Province, China, is chosen as the study area, and numerical calculation, a rainfall scenario simulation, and the Monte Carlo integration method have been used to calculate the occurrence probability of debris flow under different AEP conditions and derive the functional relationship between Pdf and AEP. The relationship between Pdf and AEP can be quantified by a piecewise function. Pdf is equal to 15.88 %, even when AEP reaches 85 mm, indicating that debris flow by nature has an extremely small probability compared to the rainfall frequency. Data from 1094 rainfall events and 37 historical debris flow events are collected to verify the reasonability of the functional relationship. The results indicate that the piecewise functions are highly correlated with the observation results. Our study confirms the correctness of the qualitative description of the relationship between AEP and Pdf, clarifies that debris flow is a small-probability event compared to rainfall frequency, and quantitatively reveals the evolution law of debris flow occurrence probability with AEP. All the above discoveries can provide a clear reference for the early warning of debris flows.

4. Assessment of Total Pressure and Swirl Distortions in a Busemann Inlet at Mach 6

Abstract: Flow distortions in high-speed inlet systems are complex, and high-performance air-breathing propulsion systems. In this paper, large eddy simulations are performed to study the total pressure and swirl distortions in a Busemann inlet at freestream Mach number 6. The on-design flow condition with both the Attack Angle and Sideslip Angle equal to zero and two off-design conditions (Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 0 deg and Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 6 deg) are considered to explore the flow characteristics inside the inlet duct as well as the distortions at the inlet exit plane. It is found that under the on-design flow condition, the shock structures and boundary layer development are nearly axisymmetric about the inlet axis. The captured freestream is compressed smoothly through inlet duct. The total pressure loss is limited primarily to within the boundary layer region, and nearly no swirling flow is introduced during the flow compression process. Under the off-design flow conditions, the shock structures inside the inlet duct become non-axisymmetric, and localized strong shock–boundary layer interactions occur. In the case of the off-design flow condition with Attack Angle = 6 deg, Sideslip Angle = 0 deg, a large flow separation zone appears owing to the incidence of a strong curved shock on the wall surface at the leeward side in the inlet duct, and the low-kinetic-energy flow contained in this flow separation zone leads to an obvious total-pressure reduction at the exit plane of inlet. Meanwhile, a large-scale swirling flow is formed at the exit plane of inlet owing to the appearance of a nonuniform transverse pressure gradient. Under the off-design conditions, a pair of vortex is observed at the exit plane of inlet. The shock wave–boundary layer interactions under the off-design conditions are stronger than those under the on-design condition, which results in more intense total pressure and swirl distortions. The averages of the fluctuating distortions are more evident than the temporal-averaged total-pressure and swirl distortions. These results show that turbulent flow fluctuations are important in determining the overall distortion level in a Busemann inlet.

5. Maps with 1 km resolution reveal increases in above- and belowground forest biomass carbon pools in China over the past 20 years

Abstract: To quantify the ecological consequences of recent nationwide restoration efforts in China, spatially explicit information on forest biomass carbon stock changes over the past 20 years is critical. However, long-term biomass tracking at the national scale remains challenging as it requires continuous and high-resolution monitoring. Here, we characterize the changes in the above- and belowground biomass carbon (AGBC and BGBC) of forests in China between 2002 and 2021 at 1 km spatial resolution by integrating multiple types of remote sensing observations with intensive field measurements through regression and machine learning approaches. On average, 8.6 ± 0.6 and 2.2 ± 0.1 PgC were stored in above- and belowground live forests in China. Over the last 20 years, the total forest biomass carbon pool in China has increased at a rate of 114.5 ± 16.3 TgC yr−1 (approximately 1.1 % yr−1). The most pronounced forest biomass carbon stock gains occurred in central to southern China, including the southern Loess Plateau, Qinling mountains, southwestern karsts and southeastern forests. While the combined use of multi-source remote sensing data provides a powerful tool to assess the forest biomass carbon changes, future research is also needed to explore the drivers of the observed woody biomass trends and to evaluate the degree to which biomass gains will translate into biodiverse, healthy ecosystems that are sustainable. 6. A Morphological Study of the Meniscus, Cartilage and Subchondral Bone Following Closed-Joint Traumatic Impact to the Knee

Abstract: Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a debilitating disease that is a result of a breakdown of knee joint tissues following traumatic impact. The interplay of how these tissues influence each other has received little attention because of complex interactions. This study was designed to correlate the degeneration of the menisci, cartilage and subchondral bone following an acute traumatic event that resulted in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial meniscus tears. We used a well-defined impact injury animal model that ruptures the ACL and tears the menisci. Subsequently, the knee joints underwent ACL reconstruction and morphological analyses were performed on the menisci, cartilage and subchondral bone at 1-, 3- and 6-months following injury. The results showed that the morphological scores of the medial and lateral menisci worsened with time, as did the tibial plateau and femoral condyle articular cartilage scores. The medial meniscus was significantly correlated to the medial tibial subchondral bone at 1 month (p = 0.01), and to the medial tibial cartilage at 3 months (p = 0.04). There was only one significant correlation in the lateral hemijoint, i.e., the lateral tibial cartilage to the lateral tibial subchondral bone at 6 months (p = 0.05). These data may suggest that, following trauma, the observed medial meniscal damage should be treated acutely by means other than a full or partial meniscectomy, since that procedure may have been the primary cause of degenerative changes in the underlying cartilage and subchondral bone. In addition to potentially treating meniscal damage differently, improvements could be made in optimizing treatment of acute knee trauma.

7. Laurentthomasite, Mg2K(Be2Al)Si12O30: a new milarite-group-type member from the Ihorombe region, Fianarantsoa Province, Madagascar

Abstract: Laurentthomasite, ideally Mg2K(Be2Al)Si12O30, is a new milarite-group member found within quartz-syenite pegmatites from the Ihorombe region, Fianarantsoa Province, Madagascar. It occurs as euhedral {0001} hexagonal crystals, maximum 15 mm large and 5 mm thick. The crystals show a very strong dichroism with cobalt blue and green-yellow colours when observed along [0001] and [1000], respectively. The mineral is transparent, uniaxial (+) and its lustre is vitreous. The hardness is about 6 (Mohs scale), showing a poor {0001} cleavage, irregular to conchoidal fracture, and a measured density of 2.67(8) g cm−3. Laurentthomasite is hexagonal, space group P6/mcc (no. 192), with a=9.95343(6) Å, c=14.15583(8) Å, V=1214.54(1) Å3 and Z=2. The strongest nine lines in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern [d in Å – (I) – hkl] are 3.171 – (10) – 211, 4.064 – (8) – 112, 2.732 – (8) – 204, 4.965 – (6) – 110, 2.732 – (4) – 204, 3.533 – (3) – 004, 7.055 – (2) – 002, 4.302 – (2) – 200 and 3.675 – (2) – 202. Chemical analyses by electron microprobe and several spectroscopies (inductively coupled plasma, ICP; optical emission, OES; mass, MS; and Mössbauer) give the following empirical formula based on 30 anions per formula unit: (Mg0.86 Sc0.54 Fe0.352+ Mn0.26)∑=2.01(K0.89 Na0.05 Y0.02 Ca0.01 Ba0.01)∑=0.98[(Be2.35 Al0.50 Mg0.11 Fe0.033+)∑=2.99(Si11.90 Al0.10)O30]; the simplified formula is (Mg, Sc)2(K, Na)[(Be, Al, Mg)3(Si, Al)12O30]. The crystal structure was refined to an R index of 1.89 % based on 430 reflections with Io > 2σ(I) collected on a four-circle diffractometer with CuKα radiation. 8. Radar-based quantitative precipitation estimation for the identification of debris flow occurrence over earthquake-affected regions in Sichuan, China

Abstract: Both Ms 8.0 Wenchuan earthquake on 12 May 2008 and Ms 7.0 Lushan earthquake on 20 April 2013 occurred in the province of Sichuan, China. In the earthquake-affected mountainous area, a large amount of loose material caused a high occurrence of debris flow during the rainy season. In order to evaluate the rainfall intensity–duration (I–D) threshold of the debris flow in the earthquake-affected area, and to fill up the observational gaps caused by the relatively scarce and low-altitude deployment of rain gauges in this area, raw data from two S-band China New Generation Doppler Weather Radar (CINRAD) were captured for six rainfall events that triggered 519 debris flows between 2012 and 2014. Due to the challenges of radar quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) over mountainous areas, a series of improvement measures are considered: a hybrid scan mode, a vertical reflectivity profile (VPR) correction, a mosaic of reflectivity, a merged rainfall–reflectivity (R − Z) relationship for convective and stratiform rainfall, and rainfall bias adjustment with Kalman filter (KF). For validating rainfall accumulation over complex terrains, the study areas are divided into two kinds of regions by the height threshold of 1.5 km from the ground. Three kinds of radar rainfall estimates are compared with rain gauge measurements. It is observed that the normalized mean bias (NMB) is decreased by 39 % and the fitted linear ratio between radar and rain gauge observation reaches at 0.98. Furthermore, the radar-based I–D threshold derived by the frequentist method is I = 10.1D−0.52 and is underestimated by uncorrected raw radar data. In order to verify the impacts on observations due to spatial variation, I–D thresholds are identified from the nearest rain gauge observations and radar observations at the rain gauge locations. It is found that both kinds of observations have similar I–D thresholds and likewise underestimate I–D thresholds due to undershooting at the core of convective rainfall. It is indicated that improvement of spatial resolution and measuring accuracy of radar observation will lead to the improvement of identifying debris flow occurrence, especially for events triggered by the strong small-scale rainfall process in the study area.

Abstract: ABSTRACT: The effect of atrazine, mesotrione, and joint activity of atrazine plus mesotrione on pigment, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzyme activity was studied. Atrazine and mesotrione treatments significantly reduced chlorophyll a (Chl a), chlorophyll b (Chl b), carotenoid concentrations, and protein content in bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon L.) plants, whereas they significantly enhanced lipid peroxidation. The treatment of atrazine plus mesotrione caused greater phototoxic effect on bermudagrass than either herbicide alone, which was evident from the significantly decreased membrane stability noted as a function of the enhanced singlet oxygen and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, as well as from the greater reduction in Chl a, Chl b, and carotenoid contents. Although bermudagrass activated the antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and glutathione S-transferase (GST), it was significantly injured after the herbicide treatments. Thus, results suggested that the enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants of bermudagrass was overloaded after the treatment of atrazine plus mesotrione, and the reactive oxygen species (ROS) subsequently caused lipid peroxidation, pigment and protein degradation, as well as other cellular constituent damage.

Abstract: Background: Most data on mortality and prognostic factors in patients with heart failure come from North America and Europe, with little information from other regions. Here, in the International Congestive Heart Failure (INTER-CHF) study, we aimed to measure mortality at 1 year in patients with heart failure in Africa, China, India, the Middle East, southeast Asia and South America; we also explored demographic, clinical, and socioeconomic variables associated with mortality. Methods: We enrolled consecutive patients with heart failure (3695 [66%] clinic outpatients, 2105 [34%] hospital in patients) from 108 centres in six geographical regions. We recorded baseline demographic and clinical characteristics and followed up patients at 6 months and 1 year from enrolment to record symptoms, medications, and outcomes. Time to death was studied with Cox proportional hazards models adjusted for demographic and clinical variables, medications, socioeconomic variables, and region. We used the explained risk statistic to calculate the relative contribution of each level of adjustment to the risk of death. Findings: We enrolled 5823 patients within 1 year (with 98% follow-up). Overall mortality was 16·5%: highest in Africa (34%) and India (23%), intermediate in southeast Asia (15%), and lowest in China (7%), South America (9%), and the Middle East (9%). Regional differences persisted after multivariable adjustment. Independent predictors of mortality included cardiac variables (New York Heart Association Functional Class III or IV, previous admission for heart failure, and valve disease) and non-cardiac variables (body-mass index, chronic kidney disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). 46% of mortality risk was explained by multivariable modelling with these variables; however, the remainder was unexplained. Interpretation: Marked regional differences in mortality in patients with heart failure persisted after multivariable adjustment for cardiac and non-cardiac factors. Therefore, variations in mortality between regions could be the result of health-care infrastructure, quality and access, or environmental and genetic factors. 11. Uncovering a reconstructive solid–solid phase transition in a metal–organic framework

Abstract: A nanoporous three-dimensional metal–organic framework (MOF), ZnPurBr undergoes a transition to a previously unreported high-temperature phase, ZnPurBr-ht. The transition, which proceeds without mass loss, is uncovered through the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The new crystal structure was solved using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and the mechanical properties of both phases investigated by nanoindentation and density functional theory. The anisotropy of the calculated Young's moduli showed good agreement with the crystallographic alignment of the stiff purinate organic linker. The results provide a prototypical example of the importance of the use of DSC in the MOF field, where its use is not currently standard in characterization.

12. Analysis of the 2008 heavy snowfall over South China using GPS PWV measurements from the Tibetan Plateau

Abstract: Four successive storms with freezing rain and snow blanketed South China from 10 January–2 February 2008, when the precipitation increased more than 200%–300% above the average for the corresponding period. The unusual atmospheric circulation associated with these disasters was caused by many complex physical processes, one of which was the active southern branch of currents over low latitude ocean areas which provided plenty of water vapor for South China. The ground-based GPS Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) measurements on the Tibetan Plateau, supported by the China and Japan Intergovernmental Cooperation Program (JICA), has compensated for the lack of conventional observations of atmospheric water vapor in this area and provided a good opportunity to analyze the character of the water vapor transport in the four heavy precipitation processes. It was found that the GPS stations located on the southeastern Tibetan Plateau were on the route of the water vapor transport during 25 January–29 January and 31 January–2 February when two heavy precipitation events occurred over South China. The increasing trend from the one to two days pre-observation by the GPS stations was then associated with the heavy precipitation. Precipitation during 10 January–16 January and 18 January–22 January was significantly related to the abnormal variation of the one day pre-observation by the GPS stations located on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. This research indicates that ground-based GPS measurements are applicable to data assimilation in operational numerical models.

Abstract: Objectives: Cerebral artery critical closing pressure (CCP) is an estimated parameter with no single accepted method of calculation. Variation between methods could be significant. This study investigates two models to estimate CCP using arterial blood pressure (BP) and middle cerebral artery flow velocity (FV) waveforms, quantifying the difference between radial and aortic BP as the BP input signal. Methods: Suspected and untreated hypertensive subjects (n=445, 203 female, 50±10 years, range 21 to 73 years old), referred to Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai, China, for 24-hours BP monitoring, were recruited. Radial BP and FV waveforms were acquired by applanation tonometry and transcranial Doppler respectively. Aortic BP waveforms were synthesised from the radial waveform using a validated transfer function (SphygmoCor®). CCP was estimated using the relationship between BP and FV waveforms by both linear regression (LR), and the first harmonic (H1) in Fourier decomposition. The difference between the two models was quantified if the BP waveform input signal was radial or aortic and compared by Student’s paired t-test. Abstract: Biodiesel is an alternative for existing diesel vehicles. This work focuses on the rigorous simulation of a hybrid reactive liquid-liquid equilibrium extraction as a novel alternative process for the production of biodiesel. In this study, the alkaline transesterification of vegetable oils, methyl oleate (triolein) being the major component, with methanol as short chain alcohol is considered. This process involves two zones in the extractive column: one reactive-extractive zone and another only extractive. The reactants are countercurrent thereby improving the separation and the formation of products, glycerin and methyl oleate, allowing a high purity of these. Part of the glycerol obtained from the reactive section is used as extractive agent in the extractive section. The simulation proves that reactive extraction achieves saving far more raw materials than other processes. It eliminates the need to use a large excess of methanol to shift the reaction equilibrium to the right and produce methyl esters (FAME) as a main product. The proposed process has been compared to other currently used processes.

Abstract: Nanomechanical resonators (NMRs), as the quantum mechanical sensing probers, have played the important roles for various high-precision quantum measurements. Differing from the previous emission spectral probes (i.e., the NMR modified the atomic emission), in this paper we propose an alternative approach, i.e., by probing the scattering spectra of the quantum mechanical prober coupled to the driving microwaves, to characterize the physical features of the NMR embedded in a rf-SQUID based superconducting qubit. It is shown that, from the observed specifical frequency points in the spectra, i.e., either the dips or the peaks, the vibrational features (i.e., they are classical vibration or quantum mechanical one) and the physical parameters (typically such as the vibrational frequency and displacements) of the NMR can be determined effectively. The proposal is feasible with the current technique and should be useful to design the desired NMRs for various quantum metrological applications.

Abstract: The availability of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) is crucial for maintaining coral-dinoflagellate symbiosis, whereas excess nutrients and skewed N:P ratios are often associated with coral reef decline. It is thus essential to understand the general patterns of species-specific as well as dose-dependent responses of corals to elevated nutrient concentrations and skewed N:P ratios. Here, we found that the impacts of nutrient enrichment on the corals Acropora millepora and Platygyra crosslandi from Weizhou Island, South China Sea, were highly dependent on nutrient dose, N:P ratios, and coral species. Moderate nutrient enrichment (N: 19-140 µmol l-1 and P: 0.5-1.5 µmol l-1) did not lead to bleaching of either coral species, but their metabolic processes (calcification, nutrient uptake, and dinitrogen fixation) were affected. More depleted δ13C and lower dinitrogen fixation rates of A. millepora than of P. crosslandi indicated that A. millepora was more vulnerable to the disturbance of nutrient enrichment. However, N:P ratios (±SD) as high as 106 ± 10 decreased the photosynthetic efficiency and nutrient uptake rates of P. crosslandi, indicating that this species may be vulnerable to high N:P ratios, although it was one of the dominant coral assemblages at Weizhou Island. The results provide an important basis for understanding coral reef degradation triggered by nutrients and a suggestion that coastal management should focus not only on the concentrations but also on the ratios of nutrients.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract With a sample of (10087 ± 44) × 106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays η′ → π + π − l + l − (l = e, μ) via the process J/ψ → γη′. The branching fractions are measured to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − e + e − ) = (2.45 ± 0.02(stat.) ± 0.08(syst.)) × 10 −3 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (η′ → π + π − μ + μ − ) = (2.16 ± 0.12(stat.) ± 0.06(syst.)) × 10 −5, and the ratio is B η ′ → π + π − e + e − B η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 113.4 ± 0.9 stat . ± 3.7 syst . $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)}=113.4\pm 0.9\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 3.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right) $$ . In addition, by combining the η′ → π + π − e + e − and η′ → π + π − μ + μ − decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be b η′ = 1.30 ± 0.19 (GeV/c 2) −2, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the π + π − and l + l − decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the CP-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be A CP η ′ → π + π − e + e − = − 0.21 ± 0.73 stat . ± 0.01 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{e}^{+}{e}^{-}\right)=\left(-0.21\pm 0.73\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ and A CP η ′ → π + π − μ + μ − = 0.62 ± 4.71 stat . ± 0.08 syst . % $$ {\mathcal{A}}_{CP}\left({\eta}^{\prime}\to {\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=\left(0.62\pm 4.71\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.08\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\right)\% $$ , implying that no evidence of CP-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay η′ → π + π − a, a → e + e − , and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of 0 − 500 MeV/c 2.

Abstract: Abstract We measured the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → ωη′ at 22 center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We observed a resonant structure with a statistical significance of 9.6σ. A Breit-Wigner fit determines its mass to be M R = (2153 ± 30 ± 31) MeV/c 2 and its width to be Γ R = (167 ± 77 ± 7) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract: Proliferation and migration of retinal endothelial cells (RECs) contribute to the development of diabetic retinopathy. PLAG1 (pleomorphic adenoma gene 1) functions as a zinc-finger transcription factor to participate in the development of lipoblastomas or pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary glands through regulation of cell proliferation and migration. The role of PLAG1 in diabetic retinopathy was investigated in this study. Firstly, RECs were induced under high glucose conditions, which caused reduction in viability and induction of apoptosis in the RECs. Indeed, PLAG1 was elevated in high glucosetreated RECs. Functional assays showed that silence of PLAG1 increased viability and suppressed apoptosis in high glucose-induced RECs, accompanied with up-regulation of Bcl-2 and down-regulation of Bax and cleaved caspase-3. Moreover, migration of RECs was promoted by high glucose conditions, while repressed by knockdown of PLAG1. High glucose also triggered angiogenesis of RECs through up-regulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). However, interference of PLAG1 reduced VEGF expression to retard the angiogenesis. Silence of PLAG1 also attenuated high glucose-induced up-regulation of Wnt3a, β-catenin and c-Myc in RECs. Moreover, silence of PLAG1 ameliorated histopathological changes in the retina of STZ-induced diabetic rats through down-regulation of β-catenin. In conclusion, knockdown of PLAG1 suppressed high glucose-induced angiogenesis and migration of RECs, and attenuated diabetic retinopathy by inactivation of Wnt/ β-catenin signalling.

33. Sensitive enhancement of cat state quantum illumination

Abstract: Quantum illumination is a binary hypothesis testing to detect a possible low-reflective object. Theoretically, both cat state illumination and Gaussian-state illumination possess the upper bound of 3dB sensitivity gain, over the usual coherent state illumination, for the significantly low illuminating intensity. Here, we investigate further how to enhance the quantum advantage of quantum illumination by optimizing the illuminating cat states for larger illuminating intensity. By comparing the quantum Fisher information or error exponent, we show that the sensitivity of the quantum illumination with generic cat states proposed here can be optimized further, and the 10.3% sensitive enhancement over the previous cat state illumination can be obtained.

34. Waveguide Mach-Zehnder interferometer to enhance the sensitivity of quantum parameter estimation

Abstract: The waveguide Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) (see, e.g., in Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 243601 (2015)10.1103/PhysRevLett.115.243601 and Nature 569, 692 (2019)10.1038/s41586-019-1196-1), instead of the free space's one, have been demonstrated for the sensitive quantum parameter estimations. Here, we propose a waveguide Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) to further enhance the sensitivity of the relevant parameter estimations. The configuration is formed by two one-dimensional waveguides coupled sequentially to two atomic mirrors, which are served as the beam splitters of the waveguide photons to control the probabilities of the photons being transferred from one waveguide to another. Due to the quantum interference of the waveguide photons, the acquired phase of the photons when they pass through a phase shifter can be sensitively estimated by measuring either the transmitted or reflected probabilities of the transporting photons. Interestingly, we show that, with the proposed waveguide MZI the sensitivity of the quantum parameter estimation could be further optimized, compared with the waveguide FPI, in the same condition. The feasibility of the proposal, with the current atom-waveguide integrated technique, is also discussed.

Abstract: BEPCII is a high-performance collider with a design energy of 2.1 GeV. In order to obtain more physical experiments and synchrotron radiation applications, BEPCII decided to carry out energy upgrading to 2.5 GeV. Insufficient energy of special magnet power supplies in collision zone is a key factor restricting BEPCII's operation under 2.5 GeV energy. Therefore, three high-power and high-stability power supplies are designed for BEPCII energy upgrading. The designed power supplies output part adopts high-frequency chopper modules parallel connected and adopts digital-analog hybrid control methods. The voltage loop regulator uses high-speed analog control, and current loop regulator uses digital control which is based on FPGA. The experimental data show that the output current stability of the developed power supplies is lower than 50 ppm. The output current resolution is lower than 70 ppm. The developed power supplies can well meet the design requirements of BEPCII energy upgrading.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract: 经导管主动脉瓣置换术（TAVR）已成为老年主动脉瓣狭窄的主流治疗方式。股动脉入路是TAVR的首选入路，90%以上的患者可经股动脉完成TAVR，替代入路包括经锁骨下动脉、经腋动脉、经颈动脉、经升主动脉和经心尖入路。对于常规经股动脉或上述替代入路均不适合的患者，近年来国际上报道了经腔静脉入路，但该入路操作步骤相对复杂、技术要求高，在国内尚未见报道。该文报道1例具有明确TAVR指征，但股动脉入路和常规替代入路均不适合的主动脉瓣狭窄病例，通过建立腔静脉至腹主动脉通路成功完成TAVR，植入球扩式脉瓣系统。.

47. Group delay controls of the photons transmitting through two cavities coupled by an artificial atomic ensemble: controllable electromagnetically induced transparency-like effects

Abstract: As one of the typical quantum coherence phenomena, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) has been extensively applied to implement various quantum coherent manipulations, typically, e.g., optical quantum memories, photonic switches, and optical quantum computations, etc. By applying the input-output theory to the photonic transports through two cavities dispersively coupled by an artificial two-level atomic ensemble, we show here that the EIT-like effects could be observed. Particularly, the transparency windows and phase shift spectra of the transmitting photons could be engineered by manipulating the atomic levels in the ensemble to adjust the effective coupling strength between the cavities. As a consequence, the group delays of the transmitting photons can be manipulated by using the EIT-like effects. The proposal is demonstrated specifically with the experimental superconducting coplanar waveguide resonators coupled by the voltage-biased electrons on liquid Helium.

Abstract: Dissipation is vital to any cyclic process in realistic systems. Recent research focus on nonequilibrium processes in stochastic systems has revealed a fundamental trade-off, called dissipation-time uncertainty relation, that entropy production rate associated with dissipation bounds the evolution pace of physical processes [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 120604 (2020)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.125.120604]. Following the dissipative two-level model exemplified in the same Letter, we experimentally verify this fundamental trade-off in a single trapped ultracold ^{40}Ca^{+} ion using elaborately designed dissipative channels, along with a postprocessing method developed in the data analysis, to build the effective nonequilibrium stochastic evolutions for the energy transfer between two heat baths mediated by a qubit. Since the dissipation-time uncertainty relation imposes a constraint on the quantum speed regarding entropy flux, our observation provides the first experimental evidence confirming such a speed restriction from thermodynamics on quantum operations due to dissipation, which helps us further understand the role of thermodynamical characteristics played in quantum information processing.
