To date, hydroxyurea is the only effective and safe drug that significantly reduces morbidity and mortality of individuals with Sickle cell disease. Twenty years of real-life experience has demonstrated that hydroxyurea reduces pain attacks, vaso-occlusive events, including acute chest syndrome, the number and duration of hospitalizations and the need for transfusion. The therapeutic success of hydroxyurea is directly linked to access to the drug, the dose used and adherence to treatment which, in part, is correlated to the availability of hydroxyurea. This consensus aims to reduce the number of mandatory exams needed to access the drug, prioritizing the requesting physician's report, without affecting patient safety.

Dopamine (DA) is a neurotransmitter with multiple functions in the central nervous system, and whether found in low levels, activation of biological defense system and physiological activity is influenced. DA at abnormal levels in the body may cause neurodegenerative illnesses such as Parkinson's disease or schizophrenia, so monitoring DA level and intervening as soon as possible is highly desirable. In this work, an electrochemical biosensor was produced on a gold substrate using self-assembled monolayer of 11 mercaptoundecanoic acid (11-Mua), followed by Layer by layer (LbL) technique. For this, a layer of cationic polyelectrolyte poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI), and finally a layer of gold nanoparticles stabilized with glutathione and functionalized with flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). FAD is a cofactor present in active site of monoamine oxidase enzyme and confers selectivity to the biosensor. Electrochemical biosensor was characterized by UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopies, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and electrochemical techniques. Electrochemical detection was performed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in PBS buffer showed a linear range of detection from 0.8 to 8.0 µmol L−1, sensitivity was 1.25 µA/µmol L−1 cm−2, limits of detection and quantification calculated were respectively 0.525 µmol L−1 and 1.75 µmol L−1. Biosensor showed recovery values between 85 and 90% in the study with human urine. According to sensor performance, gold nanoparticles and FAD could be used in electrochemical detection due to their high sensitivity and low detection limit.

The utilization of electrochemical detection techniques in paper-based analytical devices (PADs) has revolutionized point-of-care (POC) testing, enabling the precise and discerning measurement of a diverse array of (bio)chemical analytes. The application of electrochemical sensing and paper as a suitable substrate for point-of-care testing platforms has led to the emergence of electrochemical paper-based analytical devices (ePADs). The inherent advantages of these modified paper-based analytical devices have gained significant recognition in the POC field. In response, electrochemical biosensors assembled from paper-based materials have shown great promise for enhancing sensitivity and improving their range of use. In addition, paper-based platforms have numerous advantageous characteristics, including the self-sufficient conveyance of liquids, reduced resistance, minimal fabrication cost, and environmental friendliness. This study seeks to provide a concise summary of the present state and uses of ePADs with insightful commentary on their practicality in the field. Future developments in ePADs biosensors include developing novel paper-based systems, improving system performance with a novel biocatalyst, and combining the biosensor system with other cutting-edge tools such as machine learning and 3D printing.

The muscular performance of the lumbar spine is frequently assessed in studies that compare populations with and without low back pain. However, the gold standard equipment used to evaluate the strength of these muscles has a high cost. Therefore, rarely used in the clinical practice of health professionals, being the handheld dynamometer is an accessible alternative for use in clinical practice. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the reliability of the handheld dynamometer in the measurement of maximum voluntary isometric contraction of trunk extensors in healthy adults. Twenty-six healthy adults of both sexes (21.53± 1.88 years old) performed the test and retest with a 1-week interval. The comparison between test-retest demonstrated high and very high intraclass correlation coefficient for peak strength (0.82; 0.60 to 0.92) and mean strength (0.90; 0.76 to 0.95), respectively. Also, the Bland-Altman analyses indicate an error of 5.10 kg for peak strength and 5.7 kg for mean strength. In addition, the minimum detectable change for peak strength was 6.03kg (16.18%) and 5.92 kg for mean strength (20.95%). In conclusion, the test presents high reliability for the extensor muscles of the trunk in healthy adults. Therefore, the use of the handheld dynamometer can be indicated for clinical practice. Abstract: The objective of this work was to select superior sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) genotypes with higher yield potential based on data from eight harvests, using the residual or restricted maximum likelihood/best linear unbiased prediction (REML/BLUP) methodology. The experiment was carried out from 2002 to 2008 and in 2010 in the municipality of Rio Branco, in the state of Acre, Brazil. Analyzes of deviance were performed to test the significance of the components of variance according to the random effects of the used model, and parameters were estimated from individual genotypic and phenotypic variances. A selection intensity of 20% was adopted regarding genotypic selection, i.e., only the best 11 of the 55 genotypes tested were selected. The estimates of the genetic parameters show the existence of genetic variability and the selection potential of the studied sweet orange genotypes. The genotypic correlation between harvests is of low magnitude, except for the variable average fruit mass, and, as a reflex, there is a change in the ordering of the genotypes. Genotypes 5, 48, 19, 14, and 47 stand out as being the most productive, and, therefore, are the most suitable for selection purposes. Genotypes 14 and 47 show superior performance for the character set evaluated.

The objective of this article is characterize of process the agro-industrial restructuring of the poultry industry in south-central Mato Grosso do Sul, from the relations between JBS and BRF companies and integrated producers. The presence of these groups internationalized, has provoked a process of restructuring of the local poultry industry. For poultry farmers, it has been discussed a new production scale, known as "Dark House" system, requiring a high degree of investment. Thus, the actuation of these internationalized companies with BNDES investments can generate the concentration and centralization of chicken production, causing some producers automate and increase their production scales, making the best capitalized and may result in decrease in integrated poultry farmers dissatisfied with the new logic of actuation of these companies.

Schneider’s dwarf caiman Paleosuchus trigonatus is one of the smallest living crocodilians. Due to its broad distribution, cryptic behavior, and small home range, the species is well suited for the study of phylogeographic patterns on a continental scale. Additionally, this species is under threat due to habitat loss, trade and harvest, but is considered at low conservation risk by the IUCN. In the present study we test the hypothesis that P. trigonatus is comprised of geographically structured lineages. Phylogenetic reconstructions of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene and single locus species discovery methods revealed the existence of two well-supported lineages within P. trigonatus—an Amazonian and Guianan lineage. Fossil calibrated divergence of these lineages was estimated to have occurred in the Late Miocene (7.5 Ma). The hypothesis that the Atlantic coast drainages might have been colonized from the southeast or central Amazon is supported by demographic metrics and relatively low genetic diversity of the Coastal and upper Branco populations when compared to the Amazon basin populations. The Amazon basin lineage is structured along an east-west gradient, with a sharp transition in haplotype frequencies to the east and west of the Negro and Madeira rivers. These lineages are already under anthropogenic threat and, therefore, are conservation dependent. Recognition of these lineages will foster discussion of conservation future of P. trigonatus and these lineages.

The objective of this study was to evaluate three systems of seedling production of interspecific hybrids of American oil palm and African oil palm (HIE), difference between 12 sib progenies of BRS Manicoré cultivar and the interaction between these two factors. The production systems were evaluated: (i) two- stage nursery with the initial shading (conventional system), (ii) two-stage nursery without shading and (iii) one-stage nursery without shading. The variables evaluated were plant height, number of leaves and stem diameter at 106, 191 and 393 days after sowing. In all variables and periods analyzed, the genotype and environmental factors were significant to F test, but the interaction genotype x environment was not significant. The best development of seedlings in the nursery production system occurred in one-step nursery without shading. The two stages nursery with shading in pre-nursery, which is currently the most widely adopted, resulted in lower seedling development.

O termo fronteira tem adquirido uma série de acepções na atualidade. Uma delas indica a necessidade de compreender a fronteira a partir de relações de poder, ambiguidades e hibridismos nas diversas situações que nela se encontram. O objetivo deste artigo, é analisar os aspectos do termo fronteira na abordagem denominada pós-colonial em associação com o termo pensamento fronteiriço. Em suma, as abordagens pós-coloniais revelam duras críticas às noções de desenvolvimento, as formas de saberes eurocêntricos, as desigualdades entre os sexos, as hierarquias raciais, as desigualdades nas periferias do sistema-mundo, entre outros.

Gravataí é um município da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre com potencial para desenvolvimento agrícola, a partir de uma maior integração entre os produtores e os serviços de pesquisa e extensão. Os objetivos gerais deste trabalho foram compreender as percepções e os conhecimentos locais sobre o recurso natural “solo” e as terras, bem como a lógica dos sistemas de produção; e relacionar tal conhecimento com a classificação e avaliação dos solos por critérios acadêmicos. Realizou-se uma entrevista semiestruturada em cinco unidades produtivas (UP), fazendo um levantamento de dados referente à família e às UP; a caminhada transversal nas UP e o levantamento expedito de solo com participação dos produtores e integrantes das famílias. As observações de campo dos produtores foram relacionadas com a descrição morfológica e os resultados analíticos obtidos a partir da amostragem dos perfis de solo. Os resultados evidenciaram a sistematização dos conhecimentos dos produtores em relação aos solos e demais fatores do ambiente, permitindo estabelecer uma distribuição geográfica, relação com o ambiente e critérios para uso e manejo. É perceptível a relação entre as formas de conhecimento local e acadêmico, constituindo potencial para planejamento e consolidação de sistemas de produção sustentáveis.

The objective of this work was to select families with superior performance and large genetic variability for diallel crosses for potential use in the pre-breeding of oil palm. The experiment consisted of 42 full-sib families divided into three trials with 16 families and 3 witnesses in common in randomized blocks, with four blocks and 12 plants per block. The characteristics evaluated in the experiment were number of bunches per plant (NBP), bunch weight per plant (BWP) and bunch average weight per plant (BAW). The estimation of variance components showed that there was greater genetic variance within families than between families. The heritability for all traits was high, above 0.75, and the coefficient of environmental variation was low to moderate for all traits (between 4 and 13). Tocher’s method separated families into seven groups, whereas the UPGMA method identified six groups. To use the best families in diallel crosses, families 15, 14, 22, 21, 28, 37, 33 and 39 were selected based on individual performance as determined by the Scott-Knott test and genetic diversity by grouping.

Field experiment should be carried out with high accuracy since the discarding of a trial involves waste of time and resources, and can mislead breeders in selecting inferior genotypes. The simulation of a large number of experiments with great variability of traits is the main strategy to assist breeders on how to perform the experiment. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate two criteria to infer the experimental quality: Coefficient of Variation (CV) and repeatability coefficient. Experimental data from evaluations of common bean lines carried out in 104 experiments were used in this study. The simulation of the scenarios used the following parameters: number of cultivars, number of blocks, genetic variance, mean yield, and coefficient of variation. Two thousand replications for each scenario were simulated. Genotypes means were arranged in an order, and the Spearman correlation was obtained between the estimated genotypes mean and the true genotypic values. Results revealed that CV is not a reliable parameter to evaluate the quality of experiment in the field. In conclusion, repeatability coefficient is the parameter that defines the discarding criteria of evaluation experiments and the recommendation of cultivars, as long as the values for each response variable are established.

O camucamuzeiro pertence à família Myrtaceae e é espécie em processo de domesticação, encontrada na forma extrativa, a partir de plantas crescendo naturalmente nas margens dos rios e lagos, ou cultivadas em pequenas áreas de terra firme. As estimativas e a compreensão dos parâmetros genéticos desta espécie são importantes para o conhecimento da estrutura genética das populações e para a inferência da diversidade genética presente, além de proporcionar subsídios para predizer os ganhos genéticos e o possível sucesso no programa de melhoramento dessa cultura. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar parâmetros genéticos e a dissimilaridade genética, em acessos existentes no Banco Ativo de Germoplasma de camucamuzeiro, da Embrapa Amazônia Oriental. Para o estudo, foram analisados 46 progênies, colhidos 40 frutos por planta matriz em completo estádio de maturação (frutos com epicarpo totalmente roxo), sendo avaliados sete caracteres morfoagronômicos: peso de fruto (g, PFR), comprimento de fruto (cm, CFR), diâmetro de fruto (cm, DFR), peso da casca (g, PCS), espessura da casca (cm, ECS), número de sementes (n, NSE), peso de sementes (g, PSE). Por meio do Programa Genes, estimaram-se os componentes de variância, herdabilidade e a variabilidade. A importância relativa de caracteres e dissimilaridades entre as progênies, bem como as correlações genéticas entres os caracteres avaliados também foram estudadas. Verificou-se que há dissimilaridade entre os acessos do BAG de camucamuzeiro e que, por causa das correlações significativas entre as variáveis, podem-se adotar métodos de seleção indireta como ferramenta auxiliar no processo de domesticação e melhoramento desta espécie.

An initial evaluation of early selection of physic nut genotypes based on phenotypic data is presented. In order to predict the genetic gains with early selection, genetic parameters, e.g. additive genetic variance, were first obtained for grain yield along with other numerous traits. The results demonstrated that additive genetic variance exists not only for grain yield, which is considered to be the most important trait for oil and biodiesel production, but also for numerous other traits. The predicted genetic gains for grain yield, considering the selection of the 30, 20, 10 and 5 best families in the second crop year are respectively, 40.47, 48.43, 61.78 and 70.28%. With the selection of highly yielding physic nut genotypes indirectly genotypes with enhanced volume would be also selected, because yield exhibits moderate to high genetic correlations with height e canopy volume. The results here presented demonstrate the potential of the population gathered in the Brazilian physic nut germplasm bank for genetic breeding purposes and that superior physic nut families can be selected with high accuracy based on the evaluation of its second crop.Uma avaliação inicial da seleção precoce de genótipos baseados em dados fenotípicos é apresentada aqui. Para predizer os ganhos genéticos com a seleção precoce, parâmetros genéticos, e.g. variância genética aditiva, foram obtidos para a produção de grãos e vários outros caracteres. Os resultados demonstram que variância genética aditiva existe, não apenas para produção de grãos, que é considerada a característica mais importante para produção de óleo e biodiesel, mas também para outras características. Os ganhos genéticos preditos com a seleção das 30, 20, 10 e 5 melhores famílias no segundo ano de avaliação são respectivamente 40,47, 48,43, 61,78 e 70,28%. Com a seleção de genótipos mais produtivos de pinhão manso, indiretamente genótipos com elevado volume também serão selecionados, uma vez que a produção exibe correlação alta a moderada com altura e volume de copa. Conjuntamente, os resultados aqui apresentados demonstram o potencial da população representada no banco ativo de germoplasma de pinhão manso brasileiro, para fins de melhoramento e que famílias superiores de pinhão manso podem ser selecionadas com alta acurácia baseada na avaliação da segunda produção.

In spite of increasingly widespread interest in planting physic nut, breeding efforts are still in its infancy. In that context, an important resource recently established aiming future breeding efforts was the assembly of a germplasm bank with near 200 accessions. The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters, repeatibility coefficients and genetic correlation between seven traits, measured in 110 accessions (half sib families) of this germplasm bank in different stages of development. The results show that higher relative values of additive variance were only found for yield and height, and the existence of low environmental variation (either of temporary or permanent nature) among plots within blocks. Given the high repeatibility values found for all traits, on average three measurements are necessary to predict, accurately and efficiently, the true breeding value of an individual. Based on the results of genetic correlations, breeding effort should initially be use track trees with increased stem diameter, elevated number of branches and canopy volume so as to increase the chances of finding an exceptionally highly productive tree.Apesar do crescente interesse no plantio do pinhão manso, os esforços de melhoramento ainda estão em seu início. Nesse contexto, um importante recurso recentemente estabelecido visando a futuros trabalhos de melhoramento foi a montagem de um banco de germoplasma com cerca de 200 acessos. O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar parâmetros genéticos, coeficientes de repetibilidade e correlações genéticas entre sete características, mensuradas em 110 acessos (famílias de meios-irmãos) desse banco de germoplasma em diferentes estágios de desenvolvimento. Os resultados demonstram que valores elevados de variância genética aditiva foram encontrados apenas para produção e altura e a existência de baixa variação ambiental (tanto de natureza temporária quanto permanente) entre parcelas dentro de blocos. Dado os altos valores de repetibilidade encontrados para todas as características, em média três mensurações são necessárias para se predizer, acurada e eficientemente, o real valor de melhoramento de um indivíduo. Baseado nos resultados de correlações genéticas, esforços de melhoramento devem inicialmente ser usados para se identificar árvores de elevado diâmetro de caule, elevado número de ramos e volume de copa, de modo a aumentar as chances de se encontrar árvores excepcionalmente produtivas.

Phenological studies on three morphologically distinct accessions of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) were conducted in the Brazilian Savannah biome. Plant growth rate, flowering, fruit formation and development were measured in order to establish appropriate management practices for increasing productivity. The accessions CNPAE-102 (toxic and susceptible to powdery mildew), CNPAE-169 (non-toxic and susceptible to powdery mildew) and CNPAE-259 (toxic and resistant to powdery mildew) were studied. Accessions with undetectable levels of phorbol ester in the grains were considered as non-toxic. The agronomic variables (plant height, number of inflorescences, number of green and ripe fruits per plant) from each accession were measured biweekly during one year (August 2009 to July 2010), correlating them with climatic variables using the Pearson's correlation analysis. CNPAE-102 showed the highest growth rate (0.76 cm day-1), with 1.10 m increment in height and final height of 2.60 m. CNPAE-169 showed the lowest growth rate (0.63 cm day-1) with final mean height of 1.85 m. CNPAE-102 and CNPAE-259 showed early cycle and CNPAE-169, late cycle. The minimum temperature was the climatic variable that determined the most inflorescences.Estudos fenológicos de três acessos morfologicamente distintos de pinhão-manso (Jatropha curcas L.) foram conduzidos no bioma Cerrado brasileiro. A taxa de crescimento da planta, florescimento, formação e desenvolvimento dos frutos foram medidos, a fim de se estabelecer práticas de manejo eficientes para o aumento de produtividade. Os acessos estudados foram: CNPAE-102 (tóxico, susceptível a oídio), CNPAE-169 (não-tóxico, susceptível a oídio) e CNPAE-259 (tóxico, resistente a oídio). Os materiais considerados não-tóxicos não possuem ésteres de forbol detectáveis nos grãos. No período de um ano (agosto de 2009 a julho de 2010) registraram-se, quinzenalmente, as variáveis agronômicas (altura de plantas, número de inflorescências, número de frutos verdes e maduros por planta) de cada acesso, correlacionando-as com as variáveis climáticas, por meio da análise de correlação de Pearson. O acesso CNPAE-102 apresentou a maior taxa de crescimento (0,76 cm dia-1), incremento 1,10 m na altura e altura final de 2,60 m; o CNPAE-169 apresentou menor incremento (0,63 cm dia-1), atingindo altura final de 1,85 m. Os acessos CNPAE-259 e CNPAE-102 foram os mais precoces, e o CNPAE-169 o mais tardio. A temperatura mínima foi a variável climática que determinou o maior número de inflorescências.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior cruciate ligament ruptures are frequent, especially in sports. Surgical reconstruction with autologous grafts is widely employed in the international literature. Controversies remain with respect to technique variations as continuous research for improvement takes place. One of these variations is the anatomical double bundle technique, which is performed instead of the conventional single bundle technique. More recently, there has been a tendency towards positioning the two bundles through double bone tunnels in the femur and tibia (anatomical reconstruction). OBJECTIVES: To compare, through biomechanical tests, the practice of anatomical double bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a patellar graft to conventional single bundle reconstruction with the same amount of patellar graft in a paired experimental cadaver study. METHODS: Nine pairs of male cadaver knees ranging in age from 44 to 63 years were randomized into two groups: group A (single bundle) and group B (anatomical reconstruction). Each knee was biomechanically tested under three conditions: intact anterior cruciate ligament, reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament, and injured anterior cruciate ligament. Maximum anterior dislocation, rigidity, and passive internal tibia rotation were recorded with knees submitted to a 100 N horizontal anterior dislocation force applied to the tibia with the knees at 30, 60 and 90 degrees of flexion. RESULTS: There were no differences between the two techniques for any of the measurements by ANOVA tests. CONCLUSION: The technique of anatomical double bundle reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament with bone-patellar tendon-bone graft has a similar biomechanical behavior with regard to anterior tibial dislocation, rigidity, and passive internal tibial rotation.

Com o presente trabalho, objetiva-se realizar a derivação teórica da extensão bivariada dos métodos de Annicchiarico (1992) e Annicchiarico et al. (1995) para estudar a estabilidade fenotípica. A partir dos ensaios com genótipos em ambientes e mensurações de duas variáveis, cada genótipo teve seu valor padronizado com relação a cada variável k = 1, 2. Essa padronização foi realizada em função da média do ambiente, da seguinte forma: Wijk = Yijk/×100 ; em que Wijk representa o valor padronizado do genótipo i, no ambiente j para a variável k; representa a média observada do genótipo , no ambiente para a variável k e , a média de todos genótipos para o ambiente e variável k. Com os valores padronizados foram estimados o vetor média e a matriz de variância e covariância de cada genótipo. Foi obtida a derivação teórica da extensão bivariada do índice de risco (Ii) de Annicchiarico com sucesso e foi proposto um segundo índice de risco baseado nas probabilidades bivariada (Prb i); os dois índices apresentaram grande concordância nos resultados obtidos em um exemplo ilustrativo com genótipos de melões.The objective of this work was to obtain the theoretical derivation of the bivariate extension to the methods proposed by Annicchiarico (1992) and Annicchiarico et al. (1995) for studing phenotypic stability. Considering assays with genotypes in environments and two variates, every genotype had the response of each variate (k = 1, 2) standardized. This standardization has been made using the environment means as follows: Wijk = Yijk/×100 ; where Wijk represents the ith genotype standard value in the jth environment for the kth variate; represents the observed mean of the ith genotype, in jth environment for the kth variate e the overall genotypes means for jth environment to kth variate. Considering the standardized values, the genotypes mean vector and covariance matrix were estimated. The theoretical derivation of the bivariate reliability index (Ii) of Annicchiarico was wasked out and a second risk index was proposed based on the bivariate probabilities (Prb i); the two indexes proposed has shown good agreement to the results in an example with melon genotypes.

Com o objetivo de identificar genótipos de melão-amarelo, tipo exportação, com alto rendimento, foram avaliados nove genótipos em quatro ambientes no Oeste Potiguar. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no Pólo Agrícola Mossoró-Assu, Estado do Rio Grande do Norte - Brasil. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições e 16 plantas por parcela. Os genótipos avaliados foram: Rochedo, TSX-32096; PX 4910606, Gold Mine, PX-1010606; Yellow Queen; Gold Pride; Yellow King; AF-646 e AF-682. Os genótipos que apresentaram maior produtividade total, foram Rochedo, TSX-32096, Gold Mine, PX-4010606, Yellow Queen e Gold Pride, com média de 55,1 t/ha, e maior produtividade comercial foram TSX-32096, Rochedo, Gold Mine, PX-4010606 e Gold Pride em Mossoró (40,1 t/ha) e Carnaubais (46,2 t/ha), e os genótipos AF-646, Yellow Queen e AF-682 em Baraúna (63,1 t/ha), ambiente que proporcionou a maior produtividade comercial, superando em 53%, 75% e 166% os ambientes de Carnaubais, Mossoró e Alto do Rodrigues. O peso médio dos frutos foi influenciado pelo ambiente de cultivo, variando de 1,07 kg em Mossoró a 1,64 kg em Baraúna. As maiores concentrações de SS foram observadas nos genótipos AF-646 (11,1%), PX-4910606 (11,0%), Yellow King (10,7%) e TSX-32096 (11,3%).

This study presents a simple, low-cost, and efficient route to obtain zinc oxide by adopting the thermal decomposition method of zinc acetate at 300 (Gr@ZnO_300), 400 (Gr@ZnO_400), 500 (Gr@ZnO_500), and 600 °C (Gr@ZnO_600) for 1 h. The diffraction patterns collected for the samples indicated the majority formation of the hexagonal phase (P63mc) for zinc oxide and residual amounts for graphitic carbon, which has a hexagonal structure of space group P63/mmc. The images collected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the formation of sub-microcrystals with elongated rod-shaped morphology, with dimensions between 0.223 and 1.09 μm. The optical and colourimetric properties of the obtained materials indicate the presence of graphitic carbon in the samples, corroborating the analysis by XRD and Raman spectroscopy, with an optical bandgap close to 3.21 eV, and energies of the valence (EVB) and conduction (ECB) bands of 2.89 eV and −0.31 eV, respectively. The photocatalytic performance at 20 min of exposure time under UV light of all prepared samples in the decolourisation of rhodamine B (RhB) dye solutions follows the order Gr@ZnO_300 (95.6%) > Gr@ZnO_600 (92.8%) > Gr@ZnO_400 (84.0%) > Gr@ZnO_500 (78.1%), where the photocatalytic performance of Gr@ZnO_300 sample was 16.5 times more effective than the photolysis test. Moreover, the results confirmed that the best performance was archived at pH = 10, and the holes (h+) and superoxide (O2•−) radicals are the main species involved in the discolouration of RhB dye molecules in an aqueous medium. Finally, the reusability experiment shows high stability of the Gr@ZnO_300 sample as a solid photocatalyst and cycling capability, which obtained total discolouration of RhB of a solution under five cycling experiments of 60 min of exposure to UV light at room temperature.
