The purpose of the current study is to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected eating behavior and directed toward organic food and bioproducts consumption in the North African region especially Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia as well as identify the variables that may affect the eating behavior of these population. Data were collected using an anonymous online survey on 1,244 respondents from Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The results showed that the confinement did influence the consumption of healthy food to enhance people’s immune system so as to prevent infection by the COVID-19, and other diseases. Moreover, academic level, gender, and country of residence were diversely correlated with the eating behavior during COVID-19 confinement. The understanding of people’s eating behavior will help the public health to reshape future policies toward organic and bio-based food production; moreover, some further nutritional recommendations could be concluded to maintain a global better health status and improve body defence mechanism.

Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu) is a worldwide hidden health threat that is associated with progressive loss of kidney functions without showing any initial symptoms until reaching end-stage renal failure, eventually leading to death. It is a growing health problem in Asia, Central America, Africa, and the Middle East, with identified hotspots. CKDu disease mainly affects young men in rural farming communities, while its etiology is not related to hypertension, kidney stones, diabetes, or other known causes. The main suspected causal factors are heat-stress, dehydration, exposure to agrochemicals, heavy metals and use of hard water, infections, mycotoxins, nephrotoxic agents, altitude, and genetic factors. This review gives an overview of CKDu and sheds light on its medical history, geographic distribution, and worldwide prevalence. It also summarizes the suspected causal factors, their proposed mechanisms of action, as well as the main methods used in the CKDu prior detection and surveillance. In addition, mitigation measures to reduce the burden of CKDu are also discussed. Further investigation utilizing more robust study designs would provide a better understanding of the risk factors linked to CKDu and their comparison between affected regions. Penicillium expansum causes blue mold, a major post-harvest disease affecting apples. This disease is commonly managed using fungicides, including Difenoconazole (Dif), a demethylation inhibitor (DMI) approved for its control. This investigation aims to evaluate the baseline sensitivity of 100 P. expansum isolates to Difenoconazole. The isolates were collected from symptomatic apples in 34 storage warehouses across the Fes-Meknes and Draa-Tafilalet regions over three years (2020, 2021, and 2022). The study revealed an increase in the percentage of inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination of P. expansum proportional to the increasing concentration of the fungicide. Moreover, the results indicate that 46 isolates were able to develop even at a concentration of 5 µg/mL of Dif (the suggested discriminatory dose), indicating reduced sensitivity to this fungicide. The analysis of the values of the effective concentration to inhibit 50% (EC50) of mycelial growth of P. expansum ranging from 0.027 to 1.673 µg/mL (mean: 0.263 µg/mL, variation factor: 62.507) and for spore germination from 0.0002 to 0.787 µg/mL (mean: 0.048 µg/mL, variation factor: 4113.835). The wide variation in EC50 values indicates significant variability in the isolates' responses to Dif, likely due to diverse sampling in space and time. Our results showed that some P. expansum isolates could grow even at high concentrations of Dif, indicating limited efficacy of this treatment. The EC50 of five isolates exceeded 0.92 µg/mL, suggesting potential resistance. This study indicates reduced sensitivity and possible emergence of resistant strains. The sugar beet crop ranks second globally among the plant species grown mainly for sugar production. In Morocco, the area under sugar beet farming occupies approximately 57,000 ha yielding more than 3 million tons of roots. However, sugar beet root‐tip rot (RTR) caused by Fusarium spp. dramatically reduces the anticipated yields, the purity of the resulting juice, and the sugar concentration. The current study aimed at identifying and characterizing the Fusarium species responsible for the root rot in sugar beet grown in the Khenifra‐Beni Mellal region of Morocco. In this survey, 69 isolates of Fusarium were sampled from sugar beet roots showing typical symptoms of root rot from 2019 to 2021. After screening based on the pathogenicity test, 28 isolates were selected and identified based on morphological features and sequence analyses of the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and translation elongation factor 1 α 34 (TEF‐1 α). Fusarium oxysporum was the most frequently identified species, followed closely by F. solani, F. equiseti, F. nygmai, F. brachygibbosum, F. proliferatum, F. culmorum, and F. falciforme. Six weeks after inoculations under greenhouse conditions, the studied isolates caused internal vascular discoloration and tip rot of sugar beet roots, with disease incidences ranging from 37.5% to 100.0% and a disease index between 30.3% and 70.5%. Isolates belonging to F. solani were the most aggressive. Moreover, the majority of isolates significantly reduced plant growth. Cercospora leaf spot induced by the fungus Cercospora beticola Sacc is the most important leaf disease of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) in the world. Managing this enemy requires an integrated approach combining farming practices, resistant varieties, and chemical treatments. Indeed, chemical treatments against fungi provide control of the disease but generate another problem; the resistance to fungicidal molecules. Studies have detected the mutation points responsible for the resistance traits of this pathogen against the main fungicide groups (MBC, DMI, QoI).
