Abstract Background Trabectedin (Tbt) is an alkylating agent prescribed for soft tissue sarcomas after treatment failure of first line agents. While cardiomyopathy can occur with Tbt treatment after anthracycline exposure, Tbt-induced fulminant myocardial cytotoxic injury in the setting of other systemic cytotoxicity associated with Tbt has not been reported. Case presentation 51-year-old female with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, metastatic leiomyosarcoma with progression of disease despite several lines of chemotherapy including doxorubicin-based therapy was started on Trabectedin (Tbt) 5 days prior to presentation with symptoms of fever, myalgias, arthralgias, and palpitations. She was admitted for management of rhabdomyolysis, acute kidney and liver injuries which were reportedly known to be associated with Tbt treatment. A baseline electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed sinus tachycardia with non-specific T-wave changes, and a transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) was unremarkable. However, on day 3 of hospitalization, an episode of asymptomatic sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia with a heart rate of 150 beats per minute was captured on telemetry. A 12-lead ECG revealed new septal T-wave inversions. Labs revealed rising hs-TnI levels (peak at 37,933ng/L) and serum markers suggested multi-organ failure. Steroids were initiated given its role in treating multi-organ Tbt-induced toxicity. A cardiac MRI to rule out myocarditis and left heart catheterization to rule out obstructive coronary artery disease were forgone due to acute renal failure. A right heart catheterization with an endomyocardial biopsy was performed revealing normal cardiac filling pressures and indices. Pathology showed cytoplasmic vacuoles indicating drug-induced myocardial cytotoxicity. Serial echocardiograms revealed preserved biventricular function. The patient’s clinical condition deteriorated with multi-organ failure despite maximal supportive care in the intensive care unit. She ultimately passed away, and an autopsy was declined. Conclusion This is the first reported case of fulminant myocardial injury after initiation of Tbt with histologic evidence of drug-induced myocardial cytotoxicity. While it is unclear if anthracyclines potentiate Tbt cytotoxic injury as in this case, it is plausible; and that Tbt-induced cardiotoxicity ranges from subclinical to fulminant. Given increasing use of Tbt in refractory high-grade sarcomas, raising awareness of its toxicity profile will improve early detection and outcomes.

Abstract This work assessed some properties and effects of biocoal briquettes on environmental pollution compared with utilising coal alone. A mixture of coal fines and rice husks was prepared, with cassava starch gel as a binder, before compaction in a briquetting machine and drying with a solar dryer. Samples of the coal fines, rice husk, cassava flour and briquettes were analysed for their elemental and oxide concentrations via an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analyser. The heat fuels were analysed for their thermal behaviour via thermogravimetric analyser (TGA), whereas the specific surface area, pore size and pore volume were determined using a Brunner–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyser. The conversion of the tested coals to biocoal briquettes resulted in a reduction in the level of arsenic in the briquettes. Additionally, the sulphur level decreased from 1.96 to 1.11% in the Okobo-Enjema briquettes and from 1.78 to 0.90% in the Onyeama briquettes. However, the levels of manganese increased from 0.04 to 0.22% in the Okobo-Enjema briquettes and from 0.04 to 0.21% in the Onyeama briquettes. Thermogravimetric analysis at different heating rates revealed that derivative weight loss increased with increasing heating rate, from 4.4% at 10 °C/min to 5.5% at 20 °C/min. BET analysis revealed that the briquettes had larger pore diameters, volumes and specific surface areas than did the coal samples. The coal samples have greater propensity to pollute the environment as the amount of potentially hazardous elements in the samples is greater than in their biocoal briquettes.

The limitation of conventional visual acuity assessment, which primarily focuses on individual eye performance (monocular visual acuity tests). This study addresses this limitation by emphasizing the importance of binocular vision, where both eyes work together. Binocular vision provides numerous advantages, such as improved depth perception, a wider field of view, reduced visual fatigue, and binocular summation. The article introduces a new mathematical model based on the physics of constructive interference in light waves and the anatomy of visual nerves. This model yields an equation that quantifies how weakness in one eye affects the visual acuity of the other. By analyzing the correlation between the rates of visual weakness in each eye and the corresponding distances, utilizing the Snellen 6-meter test, valuable insights are gained into the complex interplay between eye deficiencies and their collective impact on overall visual acuity. The equations derived from this study can have significant implications for eye care professionals, clinicians, and patients, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of visual impairments and enriching the field of optics and vision science.

Aim and Objective: Cerebral palsy (CP) describes a group of disorders causing activity limitation which is attributed to non-progressive disturbances that occur in the developing fetal or infant brain. The rehabilitation of children with CP has focused on increasing functionality in their daily activities. The objective of this study was to assess the disability levels of cerebral palsy patients receiving physiotherapy treatment at Physiotherapy department, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria. Methods: The study is a retrospective- repeated measures design, involving the use of Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) and the medical records of the patients. The duration and frequency of treatment were obtained from the patients’ folders. They were initially assessed on the first visit and re-assessed after 3, 6 and ≥ 12 months of physiotherapy (Neuro-developmental therapy [NDT]) exercises using GMFCS. Simple percentage (%), Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used in data analyses. Results: The highest number of disability recovery cases are in the treatment frequency group of > 2 treatment per week 17(56.68%) and the first 3-6 months of treatment duration15 (50%) of NDTPhysiotherapy. The purpose of this study was to identify the challenges in teaching and learning of Macramé household crafts and develop a suitable instructional manual for teaching macramé household crafts in tertiary institutions in Abia State, Nigeria. The study adopted Research and development (R and D) method. The study area was tertiary institutions in Abia State. Eighteen lecturers and forty-one students formed the population for the study making a total of fifty-nine subjects. Data obtained from the study through a well-structured questionnaire were analysed using mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested using Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon Test. The result revealed seven challenges being encountered in teaching crafts in the institutions. The study also showed that out of the fourteen challenges identified, thirteen challenges were encountered by students in the institutions while learning macramé household crafts. Overall, the study shows that no statistically significant difference exists between the challenges encountered in teaching and learning of macramé household crafts in tertiary institutions in Abia State, hence the need for an improvement. The study further developed and examined an instructional manual for teaching macramé household crafts which the lecturers confirmed will help in improving the teaching and learning of macramé crafts. Abstract This study investigates the potential of cobalt ferrite-doped mango seed shell (CoFe2O4-MSS) as an innovative and eco-friendly approach for the treatment of crude oil-polluted water. CoFe2O4-MSS was synthesized by impregnating carbonized mango seed shell with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles through thermal precipitation. The study systematically evaluated the adsorption capacity, kinetics, and isotherm behavior of the developed material using standard equations. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the cobalt ferrite-doped mango seed shell in adsorbing crude oil components, with high removal efficiency of 98.3% at 80 °C after 50 min. The crystallite sizes of raw mango seed shell and CoFe2O4-MSS are 31.8 nm and 21.3 nm, respectively. The calculated adsorption capacity stood at 55.50 mg/g, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area of CoFe2O4-MSS was 1007.4m2/g with a porosity distribution of 1.685 $$\eta$$ η while the volume and pore diameter are 3.104m3/g and 7.212 nm, respectively. FTIR analysis revealed the presence of aliphatic, aromatic, and silicon compounds. The isotherm data matched well with Langmuir isotherm model while kinetic data fitted well with Bhattacharya–Venkobachar model. The unique properties of cobalt ferrite, a magnetic and iron-based material, combined with the abundant and biodegradable nature of mango seed shells, make this composite an attractive adsorbent for removing crude oil contaminants. This research contributes to the development of sustainable and cost-effective solutions for addressing environmental challenges posed by crude oil pollution. When students were exposed to cognitive conflict and 5E teaching models, this study looked at the impact of cognitive ability on their conceptual change in the particulate nature of matter in physics. With a sample of 195 first-year upper secondary school students, the study used a quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent groups. The data were collected using the Conceptual Change Test (PNMCCT) and the Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT). Through the process of test-retest utilizing the split-half approach, a reliability coefficient of 0.79 was achieved for PNMCCT, and Cronbach's alpha reliability index of the TOLT was found to be 0.81. The TOLT was used to divide the respondents into three levels of cognitive ability: low, average, and high cognitive capacity. Analysis of variance and analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data. When students were exposed to two conceptual change instructional methods, the results demonstrated that cognitive capacity had a substantial impact on conceptual change. It was suggested that students be encouraged to think critically and rationally about physics issues.

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IO-NPs) are one of the remarkable materials for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. However, its applications are still facing a good number of challenges. Hence, there is growing interest in modifying IO-NPs properties to enhance their applicability. In this review, the effect of Transition Metal (TM) doping on the IO-NPs magnetic properties and particle sizes as well as its role in IO-NPs imaging and therapeutic applications was discussed.Reviewed articles show that doping IO-NPs with TM alters their magnetic properties and particle size. In imaging, this had led to significant effects on IO-NPs relaxometric parameters and ultimate improvement in image contrasts in MRI. Gold-doped IO-NPs indicated improved performance in tumor catalytic and x-ray radiation therapy. Furthermore, research findings revealed that TM provides the opportunity for temperature control in IO-NPs hyperthermia application. The findings from the reviewed papers suggest that TM doped IO-NPs can be critical in enhancing applications of IO-NPs in hyperthermia, drug delivery diagnostics, and therapeutics.

Objective Uterine leiomyoma is a common gynecological condition that negatively affects women’s quality of life. Vitamin D plays an important role in tumor development and progression. However, clinical studies comparing serum vitamin D levels between women with and without uterine leiomyomas are limited and inconclusive. This study aimed to compare serum vitamin D levels in women with and without uterine leiomyomas. Methods This hospital-based case-control study included 150 women who visited a gynecological clinic. The cases included 75 women with uterine leiomyoma, whereas the controls included 75 age-and parity-matched participants without uterine leiomyoma. This study determined the efficacies of cognitive conflict and 5E instructional models on students' conceptual change achievement and self-efficacy in particulate nature of matter concepts in physics. In this study, non-equivalent groups quasi-experimental design was used. A sample of 195 senior secondary school year 1 students (SSI) with an average age of (M = 14.64, SD = 3.34) was used. Particulate Nature of Matter Conceptual Change Test (PNMCCT), and Particulate Nature of Matter Self-Efficacy Scale (PNMSES) were used to collect data. The SES was adapted and consists of 30 items of four-point Likert-type. A trial test was done on 20 SS1 physics students using the validated instrument. The estimate of internal consistency of 0.86 and a temporal stability of 0.99 were obtained for PNMCCT while an estimate of internal consistency of 0.71 was obtained for PNMSES. Before treatment, the initial conceptual change achievement and self-efficacy of the subjects were established using PNMCCT and PNMSES. After the treatment, the PNMCCT and PNMSES instruments were administered to the subjects as a posttest. Mean was used to answer the research questions while analysis of covariance was used to test the hypotheses at a 5% level of significance. The result showed that students' conceptual change achievement and self-efficacy were significantly enhanced after exposure to 5E instructional treatment than that of cognitive conflict. Thus, it was recommended that the 5E instructional model should be adopted by physics teachers for the effective improvement of physics students' self-efficacy in schools.

Cerium oxide (CeO2), Zinc oxide (ZnO) and Zinc@Cerium oxides composites (CeO2@ZnO) electrodes were synthesized using aqueous extract of Sarcophrynium Brachystachys leaf extract as comforting agent employing hydrothermal technique. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies revealed crystallites of various nanoparticles (NPs) sizes valued from the Debye-Scherer's equation to be 26.50, 26.77 and 26.50 nm for CeO2, ZnO and CeO2@ZnO respectively. The electrochemical analysis shown that the estimated specific capacitance acquired using cyclic voltammetry (CV) employing 10.0 mV/s scan rates are 976, 878 and 1075 F/g for CeO2, ZnO, and CeO2@ZnO respectively. Results obtained indicated clearly that specific capacitance of mixed metal oxides and Sarcophrynium Brachystachys leaf extract, an organic and natural material is better when compared with separate metal oxide alone. Sarcophrynium Brachystachys leaf extract increased the synergistic effect among constituent ions by reducing electrodes resistance, increasing electrodes conductivity and enriched electrode features.
