Les kystes dermoïdes sont des dérivés embryologiques des tissus mous. Ils résultent d'une inclusion ectodermique aberrante dans le mésoderme au cours du développement embryonnaire précoce. Ces kystes ont une progression lente, et sont fréquents en pédiatrie. Quatre-vingts pour cent d'entre eux siègent au niveau de la tête, et la plupart se situent à la suture fronto-zygomatique, au niveau de la queue du sourcil. Cliniquement, ils sont superficiels ou profonds. Le diagnostic est fortement suspecté cliniquement, parfois renforcé grâce aux examens complémentaires, et posé une fois l'analyse histologique réalisée. L'exérèse chirurgicale par voie ouverte sans rupture du kyste est le gold standard. Dermoid cysts are embryological derivatives from soft tissues. Eighty percent of them are located in the head and neck area, and most of them are on the frontozygomatic suture. They are superficial or deep on clinical examination. The diagnosis is mostly easy, sometimes with the help of radiological examination. The confirmation is histological. Background: Periorbital aging is characterized by dermatochalasis, lateral hooding and malformation of multiple eyelid creases. Rejuvenation of periorbital region is of great concern in aging Asians, especially for the females. However, the conventional subbrow blepharoplasty was indicated for mild or moderate skin laxity. For severe laxity, double-eyelid incision is necessarily to be involved. This study aims to improve the severe upper eyelid dermatochalasis through an extended subbrow single-incision approach with desirable outcomes. Methods: Patients underwent this surgical method from October 2020 to April 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. The redundant skin and orbicularis oculi muscle were excised through a spindle-like subbrow incision delicately designed in the sitting position. Surgical outcomes were evaluated by heights of designed line from the palpebral margin to the pupil center (HPPC), medial cornea (HPMC), and lateral canthus (HPLC) at different follow-ups. The overall satisfaction score of cosmetic outcomes was assessed by an independent surgeon and patients themselves based on the evaluation of: subbrow scar, eyelid symmetry, lateral hooding lifting, visual block improvement and brow shape. Results: A total of 75 cases were reviewed, including 3 men and 72 women. The preoperative HPPC, HPMC, and HPLC were 4.27 ± 0.40, 4.72 ± 0.45 and 3.41 ± 0.35 mm. The values were postoperatively improved to 7.01 ± 0.46, 6.57 ± 0.34 and 5.69 ± 0.26 mm, respectively, presenting significantly different (p < 0.05). The mean surgeon satisfaction scores were 3.6 ± 0.6 (range, 2.0–4.0), and patient satisfaction scores were 3.5 ± 0.6 (range, 2.0–4.0). No hypertrophic scar, sunken upper eyelids or other complications was found. Conclusions: The modified subbrow blepharoplasty method is an effective and safe alternative for correcting severe upper eyelid skin laxity, which can achieve both good cosmetic outcomes and functional improvement. We included eight formalin–phenol-embalmed cadavers (16 sides of specimens), and categorized them into anatomical dissections and histological sections. Five cadavers (10 sides) were dissected for gross anatomical observation, whereas all soft tissues of the other three cadavers (6 sides) were dissected for tissue sectioning and histological analysis. Three tissue blocks and 16 strips in each block were trimmed, numbered, and sliced into these specimens. Hematoxylin–Eosin and Masson's Trichrome staining were performed. In the region between the eyebrow and the superior orbital margin, the frontalis was covered by the orbicularis oculi. Fibers of the frontalis muscle penetrated into the orbicularis oculi muscle bundles, and crosslinked around the eyebrow level. Both the frontalis and the orbicularis oculi were attached to the thickened multilayered deep fascia in this region, which could be regarded as the muscular-deep fascial system. The muscular-deep fascial system connects the frontalis deep fascia and deep forehead compartments down to the orbicularis-supporting ligament. Background  Supraorbital eyebrow craniotomy is a minimally invasive alternative to a frontotemporal craniotomy and is often used for tumor and vascular pathologies. The purpose of this study was to investigate how patient cosmetic outcomes are affected by technique variations of this approach. Methods  PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were systematically searched, and results were reported according to PRISMA guidelines. For the meta-analysis portion, the DerSimonian-Laird random effects model was used, and the primary end points were patient satisfaction and percentage of permanent cosmetic complications. Results  A total of 2,629 manuscripts were identified. Of those, 124 studies (8,241 surgical cases) met the inclusion criteria. Overall, 93.04 ± 11.93% of patients reported favorable cosmetic outcome following supraorbital craniotomy, and mean number of cases with permanent cosmetic complications was 6.62 ± 12.53%. We found that vascular cases are associated with more favorable cosmetic outcomes than tumor cases ( p  = 0.0001). Addition of orbital osteotomy or use of a drain is associated with adverse cosmetic outcomes ( p  = 0.001 and p  = 0.0001, respectively). The location of incision, size of craniotomy, utilization of an endoscope, method of cranial reconstruction, skin closure, use of antibiotics, and addition of pressure dressing did not significantly impact cosmetic outcomes ( p  > 0.05 for all). Conclusions  Supraorbital craniotomy is a minimally invasive technique associated with generally high favorable cosmetic outcomes. While certain techniques used in supraorbital keyhole approach do not pose significant cosmetic risks, utilization of an orbital osteotomy and the addition of a drain correlate with unfavorable cosmetic outcomes.

Background: Purely suprasellar and some complex intra-suprasellar Rathke cleft cysts (RCCs) are commonly treated via extended endonasal endoscopic approach or traditional transcranial approach. The feasibility of the trans-eyebrow supraorbital keyhole approach (TSKA) for RCCs was evaluated in this retrospective study. Methods: A cohort of 16 patients (11 females and 5 males) with RCC was surgically treated via TSKA between January 2013 and November 2021. The medical data and follow-up results were analyzed. Results: Eight patients had a purely suprasellar RCC, and 8 patients had an intra-suprasellar RCC with most of pituitary gland occupying the sellar floor. The mean maximal size of the cysts was 15.4 (range 7–29) mm. Postoperatively, complete cyst drainage was achieved in 15 (93.7%) patients. Preoperative headache, visual dysfunction, and hypopituitarism improved in 12 (100.0%), 3 (75.0%) and 3 (75.0%) patients, respectively, and hyperprolactinemia normalized in all patients. Except 2 (12.5%) cases of transient diabetes insipidus (TDI), no other complications were observed. During the mean follow-up period of 41.0 (range 4–102) months, 1 (6.3%) radiological recurrence was found. Conclusions: For the treatment of purely suprasellar and some intra-suprasellar RCCs with most of the pituitary occupying the sellar floor, the endoscopic TSKA has the advantage of the minimal invasiveness, excellent visualization of the intrasellar compartment, no additional damage to the underlying pituitary gland, and no risk of CSF leakage. TDI or DI is relative commonly found in treatment of these RCCs. During surgery, care should be taken to avoid damage to the surrounding structures, including the pituitary stalk. Tessier number 10 cleft is one of the rarest facial clefts. Surgical treatment of this type of cleft is challenging due to the complexity of periorbital and temporal soft tissue deformities. A 23-year-old male patient presented with typical facial deformities of Tessier number 10 cleft. The surgical procedure involved using a free anterolateral thigh flap to reconstruct the eye socket, while the superficial temporal artery pedicle scalp flap was used to reconstruct the eyebrow deformity. The patient had no complications and 16 months after surgery, the patient had good aesthetic results. A hair-bearing scalp flap with a pedicle of the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery combined with an anterolateral thigh-free flap can effectively resolve most soft tissue deformities of Tessier number 10 cleft and reconstruct the orbital socket in a single surgery. Background There are differing opinions regarding the specific mechanical forces related to contraction of the frontalis muscle and how it exerts its effects on eyebrow motion. Objectives The goal of this study was to perform a detailed anatomic and clinical study of the frontalis muscle in cadavers and patients to better define the movement of the frontalis muscle. Methods This study consisted of 4 arms, which included: (1) dynamic ecography to evaluate movement of the frontalis muscle, (2) anatomical study of the relationship between the frontalis muscle and the deep fascia, (3) histological study to define the frontalis muscle attachments, and (4) clinical study to evaluate the action of the frontalis muscle in patients undergoing a temporal facelift. Results The frontalis muscle was attached, inserted, and adhered to the deep layer of the fascia in the superior cephalic and middle third of the forehead. In the superior cephalic third of the forehead, loose areolar tissue was observed deep to the frontalis muscle and the deep layer of the fascia. Within the middle third of the forehead, the deep layer of the galea was fused with the periosteum and firmly adhered. In the inferior caudal third of the forehead, the frontalis muscle was separated from the deep galeal aponeurosis and interdigitated with the orbicularis muscle. When the frontal muscle end was dissected free from the deep fascia by approximately 1 cm and pulled upward, no movement of the eyebrows was observed. Eyebrow elevation was only achieved by pulling on the inferior part of the muscle. Conclusions Frontalis muscle movement occurs from the inferior caudal end toward the mid-part of the muscle as it contracts centripetally on its superficial layer, sliding over the deep part strongly attached to the deep fascia. Objective: To review the efficacy and safety of PS neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser for the removal of cosmetic tattoos of the eyebrows. Method: This was a retrospective review from January 2022 to August 2023 of patients who underwent cosmetic tattoo removal of the eyebrows with PS Nd:YAG laser. Results: A total of 24 patients were included in the review. 70% of patients were rated as “very much improved” (75-100% of the tattoo removed) and 30% of patients were rated “much improved” (50-75% of the tattoo removed). 1064-nm was the 1st wavelength used in all the cases. The average number of sessions required to obtain satisfactory results was 3. Four patients experienced unexpected change in their primary color of the eyebrow tattoos after the 1st treatment, which was successfully treated with 532-nm wavelength. None of the patients experienced dyspigmentation, scarring, or damage/bleaching of hairs of the eyebrows. Conclusion: PS Nd:YAG garnet laser is an effective and safe treatment for the removal of cosmetic tattoos of the eyebrows. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The present analyses report integrated results from BRAVE-AA1 (NCT03570749) and BRAVE-AA2 (NCT03899259) on the clinical benefits of baricitinib treatment on the basis of the amount of scalp hair regrowth through 52 weeks of treatment. Methods: This post hoc analysis was conducted with data from patients who were treated continuously for 52 weeks with baricitinib 4 mg or 2 mg. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) and Clinician-Reported Outcome (ClinRO) for Eyebrow (EB) and Eyelash (EL) hair. Secondary measures included the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Skindex-16 adapted for alopecia areata. At week 52, patients were classified into three subgroups: SALT ≤ 20 response, intermediate response (achieved a 30% improvement from baseline (SALT30) without a SALT score ≤ 20), or nonresponse (never achieved SALT30). The criterion of SALT30 approximates a minimal clinical meaningful response to therapy. Results: At week 52, with baricitinib 4 mg treatment, the greatest (70%) improvement in EB and EL was observed in responders, but approximately 50% of patients with intermediate response and 20% of nonresponders experienced complete/nearly complete EB and EL regrowth. Improvement in emotional distress was directionally related to improvements in scalp hair regrowth, while impact on quality of life was proportionately greater for the responder subgroup. Conclusions: Clinically meaningful regrowth in eyebrow and eyelash hair can occur in the absence of complete scalp hair regrowth after treatment with baricitinib. Emotional distress and quality of life improvement is most associated with obtaining a clinical meaningful improvement in scalp hair. Eyebrows play a critical role in facial expression and appearance. Although the 3D digitization of faces is well explored, less attention has been drawn to 3D eyebrow modeling. In this work, we propose EMS, the first learning-based framework for single-view 3D eyebrow reconstruction. Following the methods of scalp hair reconstruction, we also represent the eyebrow as a set of fiber curves and convert the reconstruction to fibers growing problem. Three modules are then carefully designed: RootFinder firstly localizes the fiber root positions which indicate where to grow; OriPredictor predicts an orientation field in the 3D space to guide the growing of fibers; FiberEnder is designed to determine when to stop the growth of each fiber. Our OriPredictor directly borrows the method used in hair reconstruction. Considering the differences between hair and eyebrows, both RootFinder and FiberEnder are newly proposed. Specifically, to cope with the challenge that the root location is severely occluded, we formulate root localization as a density map estimation task. Given the predicted density map, a density-based clustering method is further used for finding the roots. For each fiber, the growth starts from the root point and moves step by step until the ending, where each step is defined as an oriented line segment with a constant length according to the predicted orientation field. To determine when to end, a pixel-aligned RNN architecture is designed to form a binary classifier, which outputs stop or not for each growing step. To support the training of all proposed networks, we build the first 3D synthetic eyebrow dataset that contains 400 high-quality eyebrow models manually created by artists. Extensive experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed EMS pipeline on a variety of different eyebrow styles and lengths, ranging from short and sparse to long bushy eyebrows. Plastic surgeons face unique challenges in reconstructing eyebrows due to their complex anatomy and gender variations. We report a case of a 16-year-old female who presented with post-burn bilateral eyebrow alopecia. Bilateral eyebrow reconstruction was performed with scalp island flaps based on the posterior branch of the superficial temporal artery, which showed good postoperative outcomes. This case showed that the superficial temporal artery island flap continues to be a versatile option for managing eyebrow alopecia, especially in cases of deep burns of the face. However, periocular SC originated from the eyebrow is rare, which may cause poorer outcomes due to a greater likelihood of orbital invasion and excessive tumor volume. In the present case, we exhibited a 68-year-old male presenting with a large solid mass in his right eyebrow region developing in ten months. Based on the patient’s history, clinical conditions, orbital computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan results, a malignant tumor was suspected preliminarily. Excisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathologic examination and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining of the tumor revealed SC. The patient declined the enlarged surgery recommended next and ended up with death caused by the distant metastasis of SC. The case highlighted the fact that despite its rarity, SC should be considered as a differential diagnosis of tumors located in the eyebrow region and histopathologic evaluation must be performed to reach a definite diagnosis. Ophthalmologists are supposed to have a comprehensive understanding of the clinicopathological characteristics of this disease and help patients accept the appropriate treatments promptly via properly and adequate communication if necessary.Keywords: sebaceous carcinoma, eyebrow, diagnosis, prognosis, case report, SC

Post herpetic itch (PHI) is a less commonly reported sequela of herpes zoster. It can begin upon the resolution of the lesions or several weeks later. PHI is neuropathic in nature and is said to be caused by neural injury in the form of demyelination of itch-transmitting nerve fibers in the skin. The majority of PHI resolves over weeks to months with symptomatic treatment. We report a case of PHI resulting in frictional alopecia of eyebrows and scalp due to frequent rubbing of the skin and hairs secondary to bothersome neuropathic itch. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coronavirus, a severe acute respiratory syndrome, made it mandatory to wear masks, it was carried out through public awareness and review of changes in cosmetics. Methods: This literature review paper was written by referring to keywords such as "Eyebrow," "Permanent Make‐up," "Microblading," "Make‐up," and "COVID‐19." The study selected a total of 485 references using representative journal search sites such as PubMed, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, RISS, DBPia, and CrossRef, of which a total of 43 papers were selected at the final stage from 2000 to 2022 using PRISMA flow diagram. Results: With the wearing of a mask due to COVID‐19, we are paying attention to the change in the makeup trend caused by the preference for easy eye makeup. Conclusions: This narrative review understands that eyebrow makeup has a significant impact on human images due to changes in makeup methods after the COVID‐19 pandemic. Background: Eyebrows define one's facial appearance; brow ptosis, which can occur with aging, can convey a negative expression. Various methods have been used to correct eyebrow position and shape. We endeavored to repair brow ptosis and glabellar wrinkles and present the outcome. Methods: This retrospective study reviewed 40 patients who underwent extended suprabrow lift accompanied by relief of glabellar wrinkles between January 2018 and August 2020. The procedure was considered when patients exhibited brow ptosis, glabellar wrinkles, and a wide forehead. Fat graft was implemented after glabellar muscle division. The results were assessed based on measurements performed preoperatively and at 6 and 18 months postoperatively. Results: Overall, patients were satisfied with the outcomes. To assess glabellar wrinkles, the Modified Fitzpatrick Wrinkle Assessment score revealed adequate correction during neutral and furrowed gazes (P < 0.05). The forehead and brow heights were also analyzed after repair, exhibiting decreased forehead height and elevated brow position (P < 0.05). At 6 and 18 months after surgery, adequate maintenance of the repair was evident (P < 0.05). A visible scar was observed in two patients, which was managed using a fractional ablative laser procedure. Conclusion: Extended suprabrow lift, when based on preoperative measurements, led to the correction of brow ptosis, glabellar wrinkles, and a wide forehead. For periorbital rejuvenation, it is imperative to decide locations where the skin and soft tissues should be preserved or removed. Dermoid cysts are embryological derivatives from soft tissues. They result from an ectodermic inclusion in the mesoderm, during the early embryonic development. These cysts have a slow development and are mostly encountered in the pediatric population. Eighty percent of them are located in the head and neck area, and most of them are on the frontozygomatic suture. They are superficial or deep on clinical examination. The diagnosis is mostly easy, sometimes with the help of radiological examination. The confirmation is histological. Eyebrow restoration can be best done with individual single hair follicles grafts harvested by FUE. Understanding the male and female eyebrow allows us to plan an aesthetic reconstruction, requiring 70 to 120 grafts. Selection of donor hair, angle of placement, alignment and direction within the rows influences the results, as does scarring and perfusion of the skin. Details of planning, technique, anesthesia and postoperative care, as well as drawbacks of older methods, are discussed in the article.

Cutaneous sarcoidosis can manifest after doing a permanent makeup (PMU), such as tattooed eyebrows. A 41-year-old Chinese woman, with a tattoo in the eyebrows, developed yellow–brown plaques in her eyebrows for several months. A dermatopathological examination revealed non-caseating granulomas consistent with cutaneous sarcoidosis. For months, topical corticosteroids were applied, which showed little effect. Furthermore, a physical evaluation of the patient revealed no apparent involvement of other body organs except bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy with few diffuse reticulonodular opacities. On the basis of fully informed consent, the patient agreed to a 6-month initial follow-up to avoid unnecessary PMU.

Drooping of the upper eyelid and eyebrow (ptosis) is common among people and cause the patients dissatisfaction. Various methods have been developed to treatment of the upper eyelid and eyebrow ptosis. However, the current methods focus on surgery to improve the disorder. But patients are worried about the risks of the procedure, and seeking for a non‐invasive alternative method. Therefore, non‐invasive methods with consistent efficient improvement are needed, especially for middle‐aged patients. This study was conducted of 9 patients who underwent the upper eyelid and eyebrow ptosis. Endolift laser method was used to treat the patients' upper eyelid and eyebrow ptosis. The biometric assessment was used to evaluate the efficiency of the technique. Also the results were evaluated by 3 board‐certified dermatologists (blind). Additionally, patients' satisfaction was evaluated at the end of the treatment. The biometric results showed that Endolift laser can increase the thickness, density, and elasticity of the skin in the eyelid area. The patient's satisfaction results showed excellent improvement in the 90% of patients. The results by the dermatologist displayed improvement in about 90% of patient. Leukotrichia is one of the difficulties of vitiligo treatment. Hair follicle transplantation is an efficient method to treat vitiligo‐associated leukotrichia. A trichiasis electrolyzer, commonly used for treating trichiasis, can be used to damage and remove the depigmented hair follicles. To evaluate the efficacy of the electrolysis of depigmented hair using a trichiasis electrolyzer combined with single hair follicle transplantation for the treatment of vitiligo‐associated leukotrichia. A total of 15 patients with stable vitiligo‐associated eyebrow and eyelash leukotrichia were enrolled from Department of Dermatology, Hangzhou Third People's Hospital between January 2020 and January 2021. All patients were treated using a trichiasis electrolyzer combined with single hair follicle transplantation. The patients were followed up at the first week, the first month, the third month, and the sixth month after surgery. The texture and growth state of the transplanted hair were observed, and the number of surviving transplanted follicles and regenerating depigmented follicles were recorded. The transplanted hair grew as expected with natural shape. No local infection or obvious scar was observed. Most of the depigmented hair in the lesion area re‐pigmented and only a few depigmented hairs regenerated. The average survival rate of the transplanted hair follicles was 71.6%, and the average regeneration rate of the depigmented hair was 11.6%. The electrolysis of depigmented hair using a trichiasis electrolyzer combined with single hair follicle transplantation was an effective and safe method to treat vitiligo‐associated leukotrichia. Supraorbital eyebrow keyhole craniotomy is a minimally invasive alternative to a frontotemporal craniotomy and is often used for tumor resection and aneurysm clipping. The purpose of this study is to provide a contemporary review on the outcomes related to this approach and to determine whether they vary with the type of pathology and the addition of an endoscope. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were systematically searched, and results were reported according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. For the meta-analysis portion, the DerSimonian–Laird random effects model was used. A total of 2629 manuscripts were identified. of those, 124 studies (8241 surgical cases) met the inclusion criteria. Mean total complication rate was 26.7 ± 25.7% and the mean approach-related mortality rate was 1.3 ± 2.8%. Technical success, defined as gross total tumor resection or complete aneurysm clipping, was achieved in 83.6 ± 21.5% of the cases. Vascular pathologies were associated with greater technical success, lower total complications, and longer length of hospital stay compared with tumor cases (P < 0.05 for all). For vascular cases, addition of the endoscope yielded lower technical success (P = 0.001) and lower complication rate (P = 0.041). The use of the endoscope for tumor pathologies did not affect technical success, complications, mortality, length of hospital stay, operative time, or reoperation rate (P > 0.05). The supraorbital craniotomy via an eyebrow incision is a feasible minimally invasive approach with an overall high technical success rate for both vascular and tumor pathologies. The goal of this case series analysis is to demonstrate that peri-orbital small to medium-sized skin defects can be treated by a direct closure associated with a M-Y plasty. By crossing the orbital eyelid, this technique allows to avoid large undermining and longer scars that are usually associated with the use of local flaps in this region. Twenty patients were operated on between May 2018 and November 2019, for the removal of periorbital skin tumors. Eleven were at high risk of developing delayed healing, post-operative hematoma, or showed a very thin skin, poorly prone to tolerate a large undermining. Defect size was between 1.5 to 13 cm2. All the defects underwent a direct closure with a M-Y plasty. Eighteen patients healed without any complication. Two had a delayed healing at the Y junction. No hematoma, abscess, cutaneous necrosis, or unaesthetic deformity were recorded. The majority of our patients had significant comorbidities, so that a flap reconstruction was considered too aggressive. We here demonstrate that through a direct closure associated with a plasty, they could all benefit from a oncological excision, with a safe reconstruction and very few complications. Background: The eyebrow area is a clinically critical district due to the anatomical complexity and the propensity to aging-related atrophy. Hyaluronic acid fillers have been proposed to recover the dermal volume of the facial and lips regions. Aim: The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate hyaluronic acid fillers enriched with glycine and proline for the treatment of eyebrow augmentation. Methods: A total of 15 healthy patients were treated with eyebrow augmentation procedure. The distance between mid-bipupil to lateral eyebrow and mid-eyebrow to the medial eyebrow was measured before, immediately after treatment and at follow-up of 6 months. Results: The healing period was uneventful, and no evidence of inflammation or swelling associated with the treatment was reported. No macroscopical alteration was reported in the surrounding tissues with no evidences of visible wheals or lumps in the treated sites at the follow-up. Before treatment, the angle was equal to 9.32 ± 0.2°, while after treatment it was 11.21 ± 0.4° (p < 0.01); after three and 6 weeks, it was, respectively, 10.66 ± 0.2° (p<0.05) and 10.02 ± 0.3°(p > 0.05). Conclusions: The study results suggest that the hyaluronic acid fillers enriched with glycine and proline treatment resulted as being a useful procedure for augmentation, contour and volume definition and elevation of the eyebrow region with a high-level aesthetic result. Background: Keyhole neurosurgery is the notion of safely removing brain and skull base lesions through smaller and more precise openings that lessen collateral damage to the surrounding scalp, brain, blood vessels, and nerves. The traditional frontal and pterional approaches require large craniotomies and this predisposes patients to significant and avoidable morbidity. With the growing expectation for minimally invasive surgery, we present our experience with the supraorbital keyhole craniotomy for surgical lesions in the anterior cranial fossa and parasellar regions. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed and evaluated all cases of neoplastic, vascular, trauma, and infective pathologies of the anterior fossa and parasellar regions treated using a keyhole approach, the supraorbital eyebrow (SOE) approach from January 2018 to June 2022. Treatment outcomes were evaluated based on pathology. Results: A total of 50 patients underwent a SOE craniotomy during the study period (28 females and 22 males). Their average age ranged from 12 to 86 years, with a mean age of 47.4 years. All patients had anterior skull base and/or anterior frontal lobe pathologies: (23 tumors, 17 ruptured aneurysms, five traumatic frontal hematomas, three extradural empyema, one cerebral cavernous malformation, and one traumatic frontal skull base fracture with dural tear and CSF leak). Gross total tumor resection was achieved in 87% of cases (13 meningiomas of which six were giant, three gliomas, two craniopharyngiomas, and two cerebral metastases). Clip ligation occlusion rate for our aneurysm cases was 100% and intraoperative rerupture was observed in three cases. Mean ICU stay was 2.2 days for the entire series. The overall 30-day mortality rate for our series was 16% (eight deaths). This was highest in the ruptured aneurysm subgroup, with all 5 mortality cases in the aneurysmal subgroup presenting as World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) grades = III. 4 of the deaths were in WFNS IV and V patients. The most frequent perioperative complication was transient periorbital swelling which resolved within 7 days. It was observed in 18 of the 50 patients. The next common complications in descending frequency were eyebrow alopecia (three cases), supraorbital hypoesthesia (two cases), CSF leak (two cases), and surgical site infection (one case). There was one approach-related intraoperative complication secondary to carotid injury in a giant meningioma redo case. Conversion to a larger craniotomy was never necessary. Clinical outcome for our cases was evaluated according to the Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 3-month postsurgery. A good clinical outcome (mRS = 2) was achieved for 78% of our patients. Conclusion: The SOE approach craniotomy is an effective minimally invasive approach for various pathologies of the anterior cranial base and parasellar regions. Background: The extended supraorbital approach through a modified eyebrow incision is a minimally invasive approach that has been recently described. It entails a lateral extension of the skin incision beyond the lateral end of the eyebrow and allows exposure of the proximal sylvian fissure with a superior degree of surgical freedom in the middle fossa and the parasellar region. In this technical note, we describe an endoscope-controlled extended supraorbital keyhole approach with modified eyebrow incision for excision of a large dural-based solitary fibrous tumor of the left frontal convexity. Methods: An endoscope-controlled extended supraorbital keyhole approach with modified eyebrow incision was performed to excise a large extra-axial mass attached to the dura of the left frontal convexity and extends from the superior temporal line up to the midline in a 34-year-old male patient presented with 1-year history of headache, dizziness, and blurred vision. Results: The patient had an uneventful postoperative course with gross total excision of the lesion and satisfying cosmetic appearance. Histopathological examination revealed a Grade 1 solitary fibrous tumor. Conclusion: We demonstrated the feasibility of the endoscope-controlled extended supraorbital keyhole approach through a modified eyebrow incision for excision of tumors that abut the inner table of the frontal calvarial bone, extend highly above the skull base level, or extend medially reaching the midline. Background Endoscopic forehead lift effectively corrects brow ptosis, and is less invasive and has fewer complications than classic forehead lift. Therefore, endoscopic procedures are often used instead of making a coronal incision. However, very few studies have investigated changes in the height of the hairline and documented exact values regarding the extent of forehead elongation after these procedures. Therefore, we conducted this study to determine the degree to which the height of the forehead changes after endoscopic forehead lift. Methods Patients’ medical records were retrospectively analyzed and measurements of clinical photography were made to investigate changes in the height of the forehead after the procedure. Subjects were divided into an experimental group (n=33) and an age-matched control group (n=33) for analysis; the experimental group comprised those who underwent endoscopic forehead lift from January 2015 to March 2018, and the control group comprised those who underwent upper blepharoplasty without forehead rejuvenation from July 2009 to September 2017. Results The changes between the preoperative and postoperative height of the forehead in the experimental group were not statistically significant (right, P=0.163; left, P=0.256; midline, P=0.545). However, the changes in the height of the forehead in the control group were statistically significant on the right side (P=0.026) and left side (P=0.028), but not at the midline (P=0.244). Conclusions We investigated the extent of forehead elongation that occurred in cases of endoscopic forehead lift and verified that significant forehead height changes did not occur after endoscopic forehead lift.

None of brow lift techniques are completely satisfactory because of their limited effectiveness, lack of longevity, and potential complications. The aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on the pros and cons of the most popular techniques in brow and forehead lift. Relevant original articles in the PubMed database (English language) were sought using the search terms “eyebrow lift", “forehead lift", "periorbital rejuvenation", "eyebrow ptosis", "blepharoplasty and eyebrow change", "surgical eyebrow lift", and "non-surgical eyebrow lift", No date limitation was considered. Titles and abstracts were scanned to include the most pertinent articles. Subsequently, full texts of included articles (111 articles) were skimmed and finally 56 references were selected for the review. A narrative synthesis of data was finally undertaken with particular attention to the indications, techniques, and common complications of the eyebrow lift procedures. Ten popular techniques including two non-surgical methods (Botulinum toxin A and soft tissue fillers) were reviewed in this article. In general, non-surgical methods of forehead/brow lift are temporary, need less experience and correction would be easier should any complication occur. Surgical methods are divided into three categories: trans-blepharoplasty eyebrow lift, direct eyebrow lift, and trans-forehead eyebrow/forehead lift. Currently, the most popular method is the endoscopic forehead lift approach even though its longevity is limited. Direct brow-lift is particularly useful in patients with facial palsy and those who are more likely to be accepting of the scar (male gender, high forehead hair line).

Background Infrabrow blepharoplasty has become a common surgical method used to rejuvenate aged upper eyelids in Asians. In this paper, we describe the parallel excision method for infrabrow blepharoplasty as a useful alternative to the conventional elliptical excision method. The authors’ experience over a 3-year period is presented and reviewed. Methods A retrospective review of parallel excision infrabrow blepharoplasty cases at our hospital between 2014 and 2017 was performed. Three oculoplastic surgeons compared preoperative and postoperative photographs using the Strasser grading system. Results From the medical records of 123 patients, a total of 93 patients with moderate-to-severe bilateral dermatochalasis were selected as subjects. The exclusion criterion was levator function less than 8 mm. The total mean follow-up period was 2 years (range, 0.5–3.5 years). The mean skin excision height and width were 9.75 mm (range, 5–16 mm) and 58.51 mm (range, 42–75 mm), respectively. All patients who underwent surgery recovered without major complications, and all patients had high levels of satisfaction and improvements in their visual field. In the Strasser evaluation performed by the oculoplastic surgeons, most patients were found to have excellent results. Conclusions The parallel excision method for infrabrow blepharoplasty is a safe and effective technique that yields more natural- and youthful-looking eyelids than the conventional elliptical excision method. In our method, more effective manipulation of the orbicularis oculi muscle led to a reduction in frontalis compensation, resolution of sunken eyelids, and correction of lateral hooding.

The exact incidence of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) or nonmelanoma skin cancer is unknown, and it is believed that the rate of occurrence is increasing with the growing elderly population and sun exposure, and it is more prevalent in males than in females. In this article, we describe the case of an 81-year-old woman who presented with a lesion on the right upper eyebrow. The patient had been consulting a dermatologist and undergoing treatment for three months. However, the lesion did not show any signs of improvement, and the dermatologist speculated that it might be a common wound that was healing slowly because of her diabetes. Imaging revealed an ulcerating skin lesion on the right upper eyebrow without connection to the deeper structures. Surgical intervention was chosen with the patient's consent. A 70-year-old man presented to the emergency department with pain and swelling in his right periorbital region after a fall. Physical examination revealed ecchymosis and tenderness in the area, but no apparent fractures were seen on a plain radiograph. However, a crescent-shaped radiolucency known as the black eyebrow sign was present, indicating a suspicion of occult orbital wall fracture. Computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis of nondisplaced fractures at the medial and inferior orbital wall. The patient was treated conservatively and followed up at the outpatient department. Abstract We describe a patient who presented with erythematous papules and hair loss solely limited to the eyebrows. Clinicians should be aware of this presentation of leukemia cutis and consider this diagnosis in a patient with a history of CLL.

Abstract Background Although a safe, excellent administration method for hyaluronic acid derivatives has been documented; improper injections can lead to devastating and irreversible consequences. Here, we present the first known case of optic perineuritis caused by hyaluronic acid. Case presentation A young female experienced sudden orbital pain in the right eye after receiving hyaluronic acid injections to the eyebrows. She presented to the eye clinic two weeks later, after developing blurred vision in the right eye. Visual acuity was reduced significantly in the right eye. Automated visual field examination showed defects in both eyes. Fundus examination revealed bilateral swelling of optic discs. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain demonstrated bilateral perineural enhancement consistent with optic perineuritis. The patient was treated with retrobulbar injection of hyaluronidase and oral prednisolone. Her vision improved with treatment. Conclusions The prognosis for visual outcomes in patients with optic perineuritis is generally excellent. However, a poor prognosis is associated with delays to the initiation of treatment. Recognizing this condition is important, and treatment with corticosteroids should be initiated early.
