Obesity is a known risk factor for asthma development, progression, and exacerbation. Nevertheless, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms explaining how obesity contributes to the development and progression of asthma have yet to be established. Here, we review human studies examining the associations between asthma and obesity, focusing on the literature from the past 10 years. Overall, current evidence suggests that while both asthma and obesity are complex diseases with significant heterogeneity, they both share various features of chronic inflammation. Furthermore, the interactions between asthma and obesity likely involve allergen-specific T helper type 2 (type 2) immune responses, as well as diverse non-type 2 inflammatory pathways. However, despite considerable progress, studies to date have not definitively elucidated the mechanisms that account for the observed association. A large-scale population-based study combined with translational immunological research, including targeted asthma therapies and pharmacological weight loss therapies, may be required to properly dissect the details of obesity-related asthma pathophysiology. Background: The hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype is a simple measure to identify individuals at increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) traits. The present study aimed to describe the HTGW prevalence, and its associations with MetS traits, and also determine the diagnostic potential of the mirror indices of HTGW phenotype to predict MetS and its components in community‐dwelling adults with overweight or obesity in Southern, Sri Lanka. Methods: In a cross‐sectional study, 300 adults with excess body weight (body mass index >23 kg/m2) were enrolled and examined for the HTGW phenotype (fasting plasma triglyceride concentration ≥1.695 mmol/L and waist circumference >90 and >85 cm in males and females, respectively). Results: One in five adults with excess body weight had the HTGW phenotype. Phenotype‐positive adults had significantly higher fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (p = 0.010), low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐C) (p < 0.001), total cholesterol (p < 0.001), atherogenic index (p < 0.001), coronary risk index (p = 0.001), triglyceride glucose index (p = 0.040), bioimpedance visceral fat (p = 0.041) and significantly lower HDL‐C (p = 0.001) and cardioprotective index (p = 0.009) than those without the HTGW phenotype. Adults with excess body weight and the HTGW phenotype had an increased risk of FPG (odds ratio [OR] = 1.294; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.051–1.594), atherogenic index (OR = 3.138; 95% CI = 1.559–6.317) and triglyceride glucose index (OR = 3.027; 95% CI = 1.111–8.249). The HTGW phenotype was strongly associated with MetS traits (OR = 16.584; 95% CI = 6.230–44.147). The cut‐off values for the product of waist circumference × triglyceride, to identify the risk of having MetS and dyslipidemia among adults with excess body weight were 158.66 and 160.15 cm × mmol/L, respectively. Conclusions: The readily available and inexpensive measures of the HTGW phenotype could serve as a clinically useful marker to identify MetS traits in adults with excess body weight. Obesity rates among children have been steadily rising over the past several decades. This epidemic has been accompanied by an increase in the prevalence of childhood hypertension, with children in low- and middle-income countries being affected to the same extent as children in high-income countries. This review will examine the trends in childhood blood pressure and the relationship between excess body weight and the development of hypertension. In addition, distinct mechanisms of obesity-related hypertension will be discussed. There will be an emphasis on recent studies conducted since the publication of new guidelines by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2017 which resulted in the adoption of lower normative blood pressure cutoffs. Background: Obesity and metabolic syndrome are global health concerns associated with development of different types of diseases and serious health threats in the long term. Their metabolic imbalance can be attributable to inherited and environmental factors. As a considerable environmental agent, heavy metals exposure can predispose individuals to diseases like obesity. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between heavy metals exposure and the risk of obesity. Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science were systematically searched until December 17, 2022. Only observational studies that evaluated heavy metals exposure and obesity were included. Studies were excluded if they assessed maternal or prenatal exposure, the mixture of heavy metals and other chemicals, reported the association with overweight or other diseases, and undesirable study designs. The Joanna Briggs Institute checklist was used for quality assessment. The pooled adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and the pooled standardized mean difference (SMD) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated, respectively. The publication bias was evaluated using Egger's and Begg's tests. Results: Twenty studies (n = 127755), four case–control and sixteen analytical cross-sectional studies, were included. Lead exposure was significantly associated with a lower risk of obesity (aOR: 0.705, 95% CI: 0.498–0.997), while mercury (aOR: 1.458, 95% CI: 1.048–2.031) and barium (aOR: 1.439, 95% CI: 1.142–1.813) exposure increased the risk of obesity. No significant publication bias was found and the studies had a low risk of bias. Conclusion: Overall, lead exposure reduced obesity risk, while mercury and barium exposure raised it. The aim of the study was to assess long-term effects of the 12-month integrated weight-loss programme in children with excess body weight. We also attempted to identify the determinants of intervention effectiveness. Two groups were included in the analysis: 241 children with excess body weight who participated in the full 12-month intervention (full participation group) and 891 children with excess body weight who did not participate in the intervention (no participation group). Changes in BMI SDS, SBP SDS, DBP SDS and post-exercise HR with a follow-up period of 4 years between this groups were compared. In the full participation group, the reduction in mean BMI SDS was greater, we also observed significantly higher decrease in DBP SDS. Subgroup analysis by age category and sex showed a significant difference in the change in mean BMI SDS (from baseline to follow-up) in the subgroup of younger children and in the subgroup of younger girls. In the subgroup of younger girls significantly higher decrease in DBP SDS and SBP was also observed. The aim. To analyze the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors for circulatory diseases in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) after coronary bypass surgery (off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting). Material and methods. The study included 991 subjects (786 men, 205 women), mean age 64.3 ± 1.4 years. All the study participants underwent off-pump coronary bypass surgery. Results. Based on modern ideas about risk factors for circulatory diseases and CHD, it is impossible to ignore the influence of cardiovascular factors, both modifiable and non-modifiable. The analysis of medical and social risk factors for CHD, which include age, body weight, eating habits and smoking, showed that these medical and social factors are common among patients with CHD. It was found that the prevalence of excess body weight among men with CHD was significantly higher in patients with multivessel lesions than in those with 1-vessel lesions (p=0.05, χ2=3.69). Among women with CHD, excess body weight was significantly higher in the clinical group with multivessel lesions compared to 2-vessel lesions (p=0.002, χ2=9.06). It was also found that the prevalence of excess body weight was significantly higher in clinical groups with 1-vessel lesions among men compared to women (p=0.04, χ2=3.95). It was established that the frequency of obesity was significantly more common in women of different clinical groups compared to men: with 1-vascular lesions (p=0.04, χ2=3.95); with 2-vessel lesions (p=0.0001, χ2=24); with multivessel lesions (p=0.0001, χ2=186.57). It was established that men smoke significantly more often than women (p=0.0001, χ2=31.22). The obtained results complement the scientific data of the world epidemiological studies regarding the determination of the role of medical and social factors in the development of CHD. The article analyzes excess body weight, obesity and smoking as the leading etiological factors for CHD. It was established that the risk of developing CHD is reliably associated with excess body weight, obesity and smoking, among different clinical groups of male and female patients, both with single-vessel lesions and with multivessel lesions in CHD. Conclusions. Analysis of cardiovascular risk factors for the development of CHD, which include age, body weight, eating habits, and smoking, showed that their further study is relevant, as these are common among patients with CHD. It was established that frequency of excess body weight in patients with CHD, both in men and women, was significantly higher among individuals with multivessel lesions. The prevalence of obesity among patients with CHD presented for off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting was significantly higher among women in groups with different numbers of affected coronary vessels. As for smoking, it was established that this behaviorally associated habit is significantly more common among men with CHD. The reliable patterns of prevalence of excess body weight, obesity and smoking in patients with CHD established as a result of the study of cardiovascular factors prove that these factors have high etiological contribution to the development, course and number of affected vessels in CHD.

Obesity and being overweight are very important public health issues due to their increasing prevalence worldwide. Third-wave cognitive behavioural therapies (3wCBT) have emerged in the last few years to promote weight loss. However, the scientific evidence identifying the most commonly used 3wCBT in weight-loss interventions in adults is still needed. The objective of this scoping review will be to identify the most widely researched 3wCBT used to facilitate weight loss in an adult population who are overweight and obese, according to the published scientific literature. The search will be carried out independently by two authors in PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, and PsycINFO, using search equations that contain keywords related to our search question: (1) population: adult and elderly population, (2) intervention: terms related to 3wCBT, and (3) results: weight loss or weight management. The data extraction will be performed following the indications of the Cochrane manual, and the results will be presented in three tables. The 3wCBTs have shown promising results for weight loss, but it is not yet known which of them is the most widely used to achieve weight loss in the adult population. Excess body weight and associated dyslipidemia in children and adolescents are the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in young adults. There is a reasonable need to develop an effective lifestyle modification program that includes various dietary therapies. A low-glycemic index (GI) diet may be recommended in the treatment of obesity. Its use is also recognized as reasonable in cardiovascular diseases, including dyslipidemia. The aim of the presented nutritional intervention program was to evaluate the effectiveness of an energy-balanced diet based on the principal recommendation on Cardiovascular Health Integrated Lifestyle Diet-2 (CHILD-2) and low-GI products (LGI diet) in children and adolescents with excess body weight and dyslipidemia. The study involved 64 children and adolescents (44 boys and 20 girls) aged 8–16 with overweight or obesity and dyslipidemia. For 8 weeks, the participants followed a dietary treatment using two types of diets: one based on products with a low GI, and one standard therapy diet. During this time, they participated in three visits with a dietitian, during which the assessment of their current and habitual food intake was made, and anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were taken. Patients were under the care of a pediatrician who qualified them for the study and ordered lipid profile tests. This article presents the design, protocol of the nutritional intervention program, and baseline data. Introduction. Today obesity is becoming an epidemic, with the problem of an increasing prevalence of periodontal tissue disease in the population. There is increasing evidence in the literature of the relationship between periodontal health and body weight. Our study aimed to evaluate the condition of periodontal tissues of overweight patients. Patients and methods. In this cross-­sectional study, 44 patients were evaluated. 31 overweight/obese patients were included in the main group, 13 patients with normal body mass index (BMI) formed the control group. PMA, Fush and Silness-­Loe indices were used to assess periodontal status. Results. An analysis of the relationship between the PMA and Fush indices and the presence of overweight/obesity showed statistically significant differences (p = 0.006). A higher incidence of advanced chronic generalized periodontitis was observed in overweight/obese patients compared to normal weight patients (p = 0.007). The odds for advanced chronic generalized periodontitis were 10,0 times higher in overweight/obese than in normal weight patients (95% CI 1.87–53.48). Conclusion. Our findings indicate that overweight patients had more severe chronic generalized periodontitis than normal-­weight patients.

• Depression heterogeneity may lead to variability in its links with excess body weight. • Excess body weight was associated with somatic but not cognitive-affective symptoms. • CRP partially explained the link between excess body weight and somatic symptoms. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of depression. Systemic low-grade inflammation, a plausible consequence of obesity, has also been linked to depression. However, the potential mediating effects of systemic low-grade inflammation on the association between excess body weight and specific symptom domains of depression remain uncertain. This study examined whether systemic low-grade inflammation mediated the associations of excess body weight (overweight and obesity) with subsequent overall, cognitive-affective, and somatic depressive symptoms. This study used a prospective cohort design. The final analytical sample included 4,942 adults aged ≥50 years drawn from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA). Body mass index (BMI) and covariates were ascertained at baseline (wave 4, 2008/09). Continuous BMI scores were divided into four categories: 'normal weight' (18.5 ≤ BMI <25 kg/m2); 'overweight' (25 ≤ BMI <30 kg/m2); 'obesity' (BMI ≥30 kg/m2); in addition to 'excess body weight' ('overweight' and 'obesity' combined). Covariates included sociodemographic variables, behavioural factors, and chronic physical conditions. Serum concentrations of CRP were measured at wave 6 (2012/13). Depressive symptoms were assessed at baseline and ten years later (wave 9, 2018/19), using the 8-item Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale. Two symptom domains were constructed, distinguishing between cognitive-affective (depressed mood, loneliness, sadness, enjoyment in life, and happiness) and somatic (sleep problems, low energy levels, and fatigue) symptoms. Mediation analyses were performed to examine whether CRP statistically mediated the associations between BMI categories and depressive symptoms. In multivariable-adjusted analyses, excess body weight was associated with elevated somatic (OR = 1.231, 95% CI: 1.029, 1.473), but not cognitive-affective or overall depressive symptoms at follow-up. Higher CRP was associated with elevated somatic (OR = 1.156, 95% CI: 1.061, 1.259), but not cognitive-affective or overall depressive symptoms. CRP acted as a partial mediator (14.92%) of the association between excess body weight and elevated somatic, but not cognitive-affective, or overall depressive symptoms. Systemic low-grade inflammation may partially explain the association of excess body weight with somatic depressive symptoms, but not the associations with cognitive-affective or overall depressive symptoms. Background and Objectives: Childhood obesity has been increasing at a worrisome pace and emerging as a non-infectious pandemic in the pediatric population in recent years. Raising awareness on this problem is of utmost importance, in order to take action to control body weight from an early age. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study among overweight or obese children evaluated on an outpatient basis in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology of a tertiary care hospital in Bucharest Romania in 2021 in order to identify laboratory changes occurring according to age and sex. Results: A total of 268 children were included in the analysis, with a median age of 10.9 years (IQR: 8.3, 13.3 years); 61.8% were obese and 38.2% overweight. We identified a subclinical pro-inflammatory status characterized by increased neutrophil count (12.7%) and increased C-reactive protein (16.4%). Biochemically, we identified the highest increases for uric acid (35.4%). More than half of the children included in the study had dyslipidemia-specific changes: high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) (50.0%), low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) (58.9%) and increased triglyceride levels (12.7%), especially children with a body mass-index (BMI) percentile above 95%. Increased thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) was identified in 20.3% and low thyroxine (T4) level in 13.4%, especially in females. Conclusions: Early measures to control excess body weight are needed since preventing obesity is easier than treating it. However, this is often difficult to do in our country because parents frequently do not recognize the problem until it is advanced. Furthermore, doctors are not always adequately prepared and sometimes they do not have the support of the health systems to provide children in need with the adequate care. Educational strategies and awareness of issue should be revisited in current post-pandemic context that facilitates increase of obesity prevalence in children. The relationship between these two entities has long been studied and understanding it has become a public health and clinical priority. This association follows, in most patients, the path through non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cirrhosis and finally HCC. Nonetheless, increasing evidence has been found, that shows MetS as an independent risk factor for the development of HCC. This review brings together the clinical evidence of the relationship between these highly prevalent diseases, with a particular interest in the impact of each component of MetS on HCC; It aims to summarize the complex physiopathological pathways that explain this relationship, and to shed light on the different clinical scenarios of this association, the impact of treating the different components of MetS on the risk of HCC and what is known about screening for HCC in patients with MetS. BACKGROUND: In the Russian Federation, the incidence of obesity continues to grow among the child population. Vegetative imbalance and chronic stress play an important role in the pathogenesis of obesity and related health disorders. Timely identification of disorders of psycho-vegetative disorders and their correction in overweight children require an integrated approach of medical and pedagogical workers.AIM: To reveal the features of the vegetative status, the level of school anxiety in students with an increased body mass index.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Children with different body mass index (BMI) underwent a comparative analysis of the mean values and structure of revealed violations of cardiointervalography (heart rate variability, HRV) parameters, laboratory test parameters (plasma antioxidant activity, plasma malondialdehyde, triglycerides, total cholesterol, cortisol, magnesium and serotonin) and test parameters School Anxiety Scale of Phillips.RESULTS: The prevalence of overweight was 23.1%. The observation group consisted of 47 schoolchildren with a body mass index (BMI) +1–2 SD the comparison group consisted of 156 children with a normal BMI at the age of 10–15 years. The groups were comparable in terms of sex and age (p=0.629–0.771). Analysis of background HVR indices revealed a decrease in the values of parameters characterizing the activity of the parasympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), with a simultaneous increase in the indicators of the sympathetic division of the ANS in the observation group relative to the comparison group (p=0.001–0.023); similar results were obtained during the orthostatic test. The cumulative assessment of CIG indicates a lower activity of the parasympathetic division in the regulation of the state of rest and a greater activity of the sympathetic division of the ANS in response to a stress factor in children with an increased BMI value. A third part of the world's population has a steady increased blood pressure (BP). According to scientific data, there is a tendency to increase the incidence of arterial hypertension (AH) up to 60 %. It is important in AH treatment to perform an optimal control of BP level, for this purpose it is necessary to consider both the risk factors for the disease development and the risk factors for the development of pathology complications. The objective: to identify risk factors in patients with AH and body mass index (BMI) more than 25 kg/m2. Materials and methods. The study included 339 patients with AH. The I group involved 299 persons with BMI≥25 kg/m2, and 40 patients with AH and BMI <25 kg/m2 were included in the II group. The average age of the patients was 49.4±10.7 years, the average duration of the disease - 7.5 years. Anthropometric data, daily monitoring of BP, morphological and functional state of the heart, biochemical parameters of the blood (lipidogram, transaminase and bilirubin, urea and creatinine, glucose level) were determined in all patients. The levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-10 and homocysteine were also detected. The speed of glomerular filtration was determined accord ing to the Cockroft-Hault formula, a psycho-emotional examination was done (a questionnaire for determining of anxiety and depression levels, the presence of alexitimia). Results. The analysis of the lipidogram indicators demonstrated a higher level of atherogenicity index in patients with excess body weight (respectively 3.4±1.3 versus 3.1±1.4; p<0.05). Among patients with AH and overweight or obesity compared to patients with normal body weight, significant differences have been revealed about the frequency of complications of targetorgans (AH stage II was 2 times more common among patients in the II group). Glycemia level on empty stomach was higher in patients with overweight (5.5±1.8 mmol/l versus 4.8±0.8 mmol/l; p 0.05) and 3 times more common among patients in the I group (35.6 % versus 11.5 % of patients; p<0.05). Hyperuricemia was found in 48 % of patients. In patients with normal BMI, the level of uric acid was within reference values (p=0.015). In 27 % of patients with overweight the increased IL-10 was determined, in 45 % - IL-1β, while in patients with normal BMI these indicators were normal (p<0.05). Patients with AH had increased levels of anxiety, and patients with excess weight had a risk of depression. Conclusions. The results of the study showed that there is a clear association of increased blood pressure (BP) with weight gain. Patients with AH and high body mass index (BMI) had additional risk factors that can cause high BP and require personalized treatment. Excessive body weight causes an acceleration of the development of target organs (1.5 times more often), in particular increases the risk of progression of systolic and diastolic dysfunction of the left ventricle and sudden cardiac arrest, leads the development of atherosclerosis and immune inflammation. Excess body weight has been recognised as an important factor in influencing labour market outcomes. Several hypotheses explain the causal effect of excess body weight on employment outcomes, including productivity, labour supply, and discrimination. In this review, we provide a systematic synthesis of the evidence on the causal impact of excess body weight on labour market outcomes worldwide. We searched Econ Lit, and Web of Science databases for relevant studies published from 1st Jan 2010–20 th Jan 2023. Studies were included if they were either longitudinal analysis, pooled cross-sectional or cross-sectional studies if they used instrumental variable methodology based on Mendelian Randomisation. Only studies with measures of body weight and employment outcomes were included. The number of potentially relevant studies constituted 4321 hits. A total of 59 studies met the inclusion criteria and were qualitatively reviewed by the authors. Most of the included studies were conducted in the USA (N=18), followed by the UK (N=9), Germany (N=6), Finland (N=4), and non-EU countries (N=22). Evidence from the included studies suggests that the effect of excess weight differs by gender, ethnicity, country, and time period. White women with excess weight in the USA, the UK, Germany, Canada, and in the EU (multi-country analyses) are less likely to be employed, and when employed they face lower wages compared to normal weight counterparts. For men there is no effect of excess weight on employment outcomes or the magnitude of the effect is much smaller or even positive in some cases. This review has shown that despite ample research on the relationship between excess weight and employment status and wages, robust causal evidence of the effects of excess weight on employment outcomes remains scarce and relies significantly on strong statistical and theoretical assumptions. Obesity and being overweight are very important public health issues due to their increasing prevalence worldwide. Third-wave cognitive behavioural therapies (3wCBT) have emerged in the last few years to promote weight loss. However, the scientific evidence identifying the most commonly used 3wCBT in weight-loss interventions in adults is still needed. The objective of this scoping review will be to identify the most widely researched 3wCBT used to facilitate weight loss in an adult population who are overweight and obese, according to the published scientific literature. The search will be carried out independently by two authors in PubMed (MEDLINE), Scopus, EMBASE, Web of Science, and PsycINFO, using search equations that contain keywords related to our search question: (1) population: adult and elderly population, (2) intervention: terms related to 3wCBT, and (3) results: weight loss or weight management. The data extraction will be performed following the indications of the Cochrane manual, and the results will be presented in three tables. The 3wCBTs have shown promising results for weight loss, but it is not yet known which of them is the most widely used to achieve weight loss in the adult population. Thus, the results of this scoping review could guide professionals in the psychological treatment of obesity and being overweight.

Excess body weight and associated dyslipidemia in children and adolescents are the main risk factors for cardiovascular diseases in young adults. There is a reasonable need to develop an effective lifestyle modification program that includes various dietary therapies. A low-glycemic index (GI) diet may be recommended in the treatment of obesity. Its use is also recognized as reasonable in cardiovascular diseases, including dyslipidemia. The aim of the presented nutritional intervention program was to evaluate the effectiveness of an energy-balanced diet based on the principal recommendation on Cardiovascular Health Integrated Lifestyle Diet-2 (CHILD-2) and low-GI products (LGI diet) in children and adolescents with excess body weight and dyslipidemia. The study involved 64 children and adolescents (44 boys and 20 girls) aged 8–16 with overweight or obesity and dyslipidemia. For 8 weeks, the participants followed a dietary treatment using two types of diets: one based on products with a low GI, and one standard therapy diet. During this time, they participated in three visits with a dietitian, during which the assessment of their current and habitual food intake was made, and anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were taken. Patients were under the care of a pediatrician who qualified them for the study and ordered lipid profile tests. This article presents the design, protocol of the nutritional intervention program, and baseline data. The collected results will be used to develop practical nutritional recommendations for children and adolescents with excess body weight and dyslipidemia.

BackgroundEvidence suggests that Egypt, a country in North Africa, has a significant number of children at serious risk of excess body weight. Yet, there is a dearth of studies on overweight and obesity among children under 5 years in the country. This study examined the prevalence and correlates of overweight and obesity among under-five children in Egypt.MethodsData were retrieved from the latest (2008 and 2014) Egypt Demographic and Health Surveys (EDHS). A total of 42,568 children under 5 years were included. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was described using proportions whereas the factors associated with the prevalence were examined using logistic regression.ResultsOf the 42,568 children under 5 years, about one in every six (17%) were overweight or obese. Children aged 19–37 months, those with birth weights >4 kg, those given large portions of protein foods (eggs and meat), and those whose mothers were in the rich wealth quintile had significant risks of overweight or obesity.ConclusionOverweight and obesity are highly prevalent among children under 5 years in Egypt. Interventions developed to address these two overnutrition indicators in Egypt need to consider variations in risk factors across age, birth weight, food types and portions, and maternal wealth status.

There is some clinical evidence indicating that obesity may change the trajectory of individuals with Bipolar Disorder (BD) to having more mixed features, however, to the best of our knowledge, there are no systematic reviews investigating this relationship. Thus, this systematic review is aimed at describing the association between obesity and mixed features in BD, specifically whether obesity changes the trajectory of patients with BD to having a greater frequency of mixed features. A literature search was conducted on October 22, 2021, using the following databases: PubMed, PsycINFO, and EMBASE. A total of 2 studies were included in this systematic review. Both studies described the frequency of mixed features in a population of patients with BD with and without the presence of obesity. Among individuals with BD, patients who were obese had a significantly greater probability of having mixed features than patients who were not obese. The prevalence of manic versus depressive or mixed mood states was significantly associated with obesity, since a higher percentage of patients who had BD and were obese presented with depressive or mixed mood states compared to patients who had BD and were not obese. Patients that are diagnosed with BD and present with obesity have a greater prevalence of presenting mixed features, which has been linked to worse clinical outcomes. More studies are needed to definitively determine the association between obesity and mixed features, and therefore, implement interventions to improve prognosis in patients with BD.

The aim. To examine the features of structural and functional changes of the heart in patients with chronic heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (CHF pr EF) with excess body weight depending on the presence and form of atrial fibrillation (AF). Materials and methods. The study involved 248 patients with CHF pr EF and excess body weight, the mean age was 65.0 ± 11.0 years, 146 females (58.9 %) and 102 males (41.1 %). The first group included 181 patients without concomitant AF, the mean age was 64.0 ± 11.0 years, 110 females (60.8 %) and 71 males (39.2 %); the second group included 67 patients with AF, the mean age was 67.9 ± 11.3 years, 36 females (53.7 %) and 31 males (46.3 %). Subjects with AF were further divided into subgroups: 7 patients with paroxysmal AF, the mean age – 6.7 ± 10.4 years, 3 females (42.9 %) and 4 males (57.1 %), 12 patients with persistent AF, the mean age – 70.8 ± 10.3 years, 10 females (83.3 %) and 2 males (16.7 %); 48 patients with permanent AF, the mean age – 67.3 ± 11.7 years, 23 females (47.9 %) and 25 males (52.1 %). Results. Patients with concomitant AF had a significantly larger aorta diameter (by 3.0 %), systolic left atrium size (LAs) (by 14.5 %), right atrium size (RA) (by 8.3 %), left ventricle end-diastolic size (LVEDS) (by 7.1 %), left ventricle end-systolic size (LVESS) (by 10.6 %), right ventricle size (RV) (by 13,1 %), mean pulmonary artery pressure (by 20.0 %) and the prevalence of LV eccentric hypertrophy (by 21.0 %; P ˂ 0.001). At the same time, LV wall relative thickness (LV RT) was lower by 6.3 %, LV EF – by 3.4 % and the frequency of LV concentric hypertrophy – by 19.1 % (P ˂ 0.001). In permanent form of AF compared to paroxysmal one, significantly larger LAs (by 10.6 %), RA (by 10.9 %), LV myocardial mass (LV MM) (by 18.1 %) and LV MM index (by 21.1 %) were determined and in contrast to persistent AF, LAs (by 9.8 %), RA (by 11.4 %), LVEDS (by 15.6 %), LVESS (by 15.8 %), RV (by 27, 9 %), LV MM (by 29.8 %), LV MMI (by 14.9 %) were predominant, at the same, LVRT was 12.8 % less. Conclusions. In patients with CHF pr EF and excess body weight, concomitant AF is associated with greater dilatation of the heart cavities, eccentric hypertrophy predominance, decreased LV contractility and pulmonary hypertension. Compared to other forms, permanent AF is characterized by severe structural and functional changes in the heart, maximal manifestations of LV dilatation and hypertrophy.

Background and Objectives: Childhood obesity has been increasing at a worrisome pace and emerging as a non-infectious pandemic in the pediatric population in recent years. Raising awareness on this problem is of utmost importance, in order to take action to control body weight from an early age. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study among overweight or obese children evaluated on an outpatient basis in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology of a tertiary care hospital in Bucharest Romania in 2021 in order to identify laboratory changes occurring according to age and sex. Results: A total of 268 children were included in the analysis, with a median age of 10.9 years (IQR: 8.3, 13.3 years); 61.8% were obese and 38.2% overweight. We identified a subclinical pro-inflammatory status characterized by increased neutrophil count (12.7%) and increased C-reactive protein (16.4%). Biochemically, we identified the highest increases for uric acid (35.4%). More than half of the children included in the study had dyslipidemia-specific changes: high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) (50.0%), low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) (58.9%) and increased triglyceride levels (12.7%), especially children with a body mass-index (BMI) percentile above 95%. Increased thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) was identified in 20.3% and low thyroxine (T4) level in 13.4%, especially in females. Conclusions: Early measures to control excess body weight are needed since preventing obesity is easier than treating it. However, this is often difficult to do in our country because parents frequently do not recognize the problem until it is advanced. Furthermore, doctors are not always adequately prepared and sometimes they do not have the support of the health systems to provide children in need with the adequate care. Educational strategies and awareness of issue should be revisited in current post-pandemic context that facilitates increase of obesity prevalence in children. Increase of efficient communication could be achieved by pointing to these objective findings.

This article addresses issues associated with the perception of obesity and being overweight in the labour market, and the issue of weight discrimination. Excess body weight has become a very serious social problem. The increase in rates of obesity and being overweight is a serious problem both for individuals and social policies in advanced societies. In some countries, over 50% of the population have excess body weight. The literature to date indicates that people struggling with being overweight and obesity are discriminated at work. Research shows that these individuals are believed to have lower leadership potential, a lower IQ and lower effectiveness compared to individuals of normal weight. For this reason, people with excess body weight are subjected to stigmatisation and discrimination, have limited chances of occupying managerial positions, and earn lower incomes. Abstract Background Worldwide, the epidemiological and demographic transitions have resulted in nutrition shift characterized by an increased consumption of high energy fast food products. In just over 3 decades, overweight and obesity rates have nearly tripled to currently affecting over a third of the global population. Notwithstanding the ever present under-nutrition burden, sub Saharan Africa (SSA) is witnessing a drastic escalation of overweight and obesity. We aimed to explore the prevalence and associated factors for obesity among residents of Dar es Salaam city in Tanzania. Objective: There is a close relationship between excess adiposity and cardiovascular disease. Although body mass index (BMI) is the most used approach to estimate excess weight, other anthropometric indices have been developed to measure total body and abdominal adiposity. Here, our objective was to assess the usefulness of these anthropometric indices to detect subclinical atheromatous disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 6,809 middle-aged subjects (mean age, 57 [53–63] years) with low to moderate cardiovascular risk from the ILERVAS project. Measures of total body fat (BMI, Clínica Universidad de Navarra – Body Adiposity Estimator [CUN-BAE], and Deurenberg’s formula) and central adiposity (waist and neck circumferences, conicity index, waist-to-height ratio, Bonora’s equation, the A body adiposity index, and body roundness index) were performed in all participants. Bilateral carotid and femoral ultrasound vascular studies allowed the identification of subjects with plaque. ­Results: All measured indices were significantly higher in males with subclinical carotid or femoral plaques (p ≤ 0.021 for all). Also, a positive and significant correlation between all indices and the number of affected territories was found (p ≤ 0.013 for all). From the ROC analysis, all measurements identified patients with asymptomatic atheromatosis but none of them helped make clinical decisions. Regarding females, the results were less conclusive. Conclusion: Obesity indices are related to subclinical atheromatosis, especially in men, in a large cohort of middle-aged subjects. However, the indices could not detect the presence of arterial plaque, so, when used in isolation, are unlikely to be decisive.

To date, there are several approaches to the treatment of endometrial hyperplasia, but it is quite unclear which approach provides a higher clinical response with a lower recurrence rate, in addition to preservation and restoration of fertility in infertile women with complex non-atypical endometrial hyperplasia (NEH) and excess body weight. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the restoration of reproductive function in patients with infertility, complex NEH and with excess body weight according to the proposed method. Material and methods. 74 women of reproductive age with complex NEH, infertility and excess body weight were under observation, of which 34 patients of the main group after hysteroscopic resection of the lesion at the first stage of treatment, at the second stage of treatment received gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists (aGnRH) and adjuvant therapy with drugs indole-3-carbinol, metformin, fenofibrate for three months, and then at the third stage of treatment dydrogesterone, metformin, a vitamin-mineral complex that included myo-inositol, banaba leaves, extract of 1% corosolic acid, vitamin D3, methylfolate-quatrafolic, chromium for 6 months. 40 patients of the control group after hysteroscopic resection of the lesion at the first stage of treatment were prescribed aGnRH for 3 months in the second stage of treatment, then methylfolate-mvatrafolic for 6 months. Anthropometric data, echometric and morphofunctional characteristics of the endometrium during the expected window of implantation, hormonal profile and levels of peripheral blood lipokines in the dynamics of treatment were studied. Reproductive results were evaluated within a year after the end of treatment. The results. Treatment of complex NEH in the main group led, compared to the control group, to a decrease in body mass index, improvement in echometric and morphofunctional characteristics of the endometrium, its receptivity during the expected window of implantation, hormonal profile and lipokines level in peripheral blood, a decrease in insulin resistance, and an increase in the frequency of pregnancy. Conclusion. The proposed scheme for the treatment of complex NEH in infertile women with excess body weight allowed to improve their reproductive results, is effective and can be recommended for implementation in wide clinical practice.

We examined the association of maternal depression and anxiety symptoms with the weight status of children at preschool age. The current study is a cross-sectional study, which was carried out in the homes of the participants between July 2016 and August 2017. Maternal depression and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory-II and the Beck Anxiety Inventory, respectively. Of the 216 children included in the study, 69.4%, 21.3% and 9.3% were classified as ≤85th, >85th and <97th and >85th percentile, respectively. The prevalence of moderate/severe maternal depression and anxiety symptoms was 20.1% and 19.5%, respectively. Children whose mothers had moderate/severe symptoms of depression and minimal/mild symptoms of anxiety were more likely to have excess body weight at preschool age than children whose mothers had both minimal/mild symptoms of depression and anxiety. Accidental falls often occur during gait initiation. Excess body weight has been identified as a risk factor for accidental falls. This study aimed to examine the differences of gait initiation between overweight and normal-weight individuals. Fourteen overweight and 14 normal-weight young adults participated in the study. They were instructed to perform the gait initiation task under single-task and dual-task conditions. Dependent variables for the assessment of gait initiation included spatial–temporal measures and postural stability measures. The results showed that overweight could compromise postural stability during gait initiation, primarily by decreasing margin of stability in the anterior–posterior direction. Cognitive task interference with gait initiation was found to be similar between the overweight and normal weight groups. The findings from the present study can aid in better understanding the mechanisms associated with increased fall risks among overweight individuals. They also highlight the importance of overweight control in fall prevention. The aims of this study were twofold: (1) to investigate the effectiveness of web-based psychoeducation for emotional functioning, eating behaviors, and body image among premenopausal women with excess body weight, and (2) to compare the efficacy of two types of web-based psychoeducation. Three hundred individuals were asked to volunteer in the present study. All participants were recruited in Poland from September 2017 to July 2019. Finally, a total of 129 premenopausal women took part in the research and signed informed consent. Their ages ranged between 18 and 48 years old (M = 32.28, SD = 7.65). Self-reported weight and height were recorded. BMI was calculated using self-reported data. Their average body mass index was 30.54 kg/m2 (SD = 3.69). In our randomized experiment, the participants were allocated into three groups: experimental group I (EG I, N = 43), experimental group II (EG II, N = 46), and wait list control group (CG, N = 40). Five questionnaires were included in the online survey at the baseline measurement (Day 0), at the end of psychoeducational intervention (Day 16) and 75 days from the start of the 15-day intervention (Day 76). Measurement tools included the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, the Mindful Eating Scale, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and the Body Attitude Test. Our eHealth web-based psychoeducation consisted of three modules: emotional functioning module (EG I: theoretically consistent approach (TCA) vs EG II: eclectic approach; EA), eating behaviors module (EG I, EG II: based on mindfulness-based eating training; MET), body image module (EG I, EG II: based on Cash's prevention of body image disturbances; CPBID). The first experimental group (EG I) had intervention containing TCA, MET, and CPBID, while the second experimental group (EG II) EA, MET, and CPBID. According to between-group comparison, both types of web-based psychoeducation led to an increase in adaptive emotion regulation (Day 16: EG I vs CG: p < 0.001, EG II vs CG: p < 0.001; Day 76: EG I vs CG: p < 0.01, EG II vs CG: p < 0.001). In EG I, the intervention resulted in a higher reduction (than in CG) in emotional eating (Day 16: p < 0.01, Day 76: p < 0.01), uncontrolled eating (Day 16: p < 0.05, Day 76: p < 0.05), and negative appreciation of body size (Day 16: p < 0.01, Day 76: p < 0.01). In EG II, a lower level of emotional eating was found on Day 76 (EG II vs CG: p < 0.05). Two months after completion of the 15-day intervention, no statistically significant reduction for BMI was observed in either experimental group (p > 0.05). The effectiveness of both types of web-based psychoeducation was also confirmed in within-group comparison (Day 0 vs Day 16 and Day 0 vs Day 76). There was a significant increase in emotion regulation and mindful eating, as well as a decrease in emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, negative appreciation of body size, lack of familiarity with one's body, and the experiencing of negative emotions in both experimental groups (EG I, EG II). Background. Today, obesity is seen as a chronic systemic inflammation of low activity. At present, the information about the biological and clinical significance of metal proteins in the inflammatory process is being accumulated. The purpose was to study transferrin and ferritin indices in overweight and obese children. Materials and methods. We have examined the children with overweight (OW, 60 persons), obesity (Os, 45 persons), normal body weight (NBW, 60 persons), body weight deficiency (BWD, 30 persons) aged 13–18 years. Examination included anamnesis, anthropometry (height, body weight, BMI, waist-to-thigh ratio (WTR)), content of glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR calculation, content of transferrin (TF) and ferritin (Fn). For statistical analysis of the results, statistic modules of Statistica v. 6.0, MedStat and on-line SISA calculator were used. Results. In the total sample of 325 patients, OW was observed in 75 (23.1 %), Os — in 45 (13.8 %) children, BWD — in 30 (9.2 %) persons, in the rest 175 (53.8 %) — NBW. Of the overweight children, the boys prevailed and accounted for 40 (53.3 %), and 38 (55.8%) obese boys. The highest content of transferrin was observed in children aged 16–18 years (3.90 ± 0.70 g/l, n = 100; p < 0.05). The highest content of TF was recorded in children with Os II grade — 3.98 ± 0.9 g/l (n = 16) versus 3.05 ± 0.61 g/l (n = 29) (p < 0.05) in children with Os I grade. A similar trend has been established with respect to the Fn blood plasma values in examined children. Thus, higher levels of ferritin were found in children with Os II degree — 178.9 ± 22.8 ng/ml (n = 16) versus 125.8 ± 0.7 ng/ml (n = 29) (p < 0.05) in children with Os I and in children aged 16–18 years old — 176.2 ± 12.8 ng/ml (n = 25) versus 149.9 ± 11.3 ng/ml (n = 20) (p < 0.01) in children of 13–15 years old. The probable difference in gender ratios of TF and Fn is not established. Conclusions. The evaluation of systemic markers as a method of early detection of obesity is an urgent and promising direction for optimizing the obesity prevention system.

Background: Memory performance is a cognitive function that is affected by environmental, genetic and socioeconomic factors, as well as by weight status. Aim: To evaluate the association of weight status at 2 years of age with the memory performance of children at 4–5 years of age. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study that used baseline data (2012) and data from two follow-up periods (2014 and 2016) of the PREDI Cohort Study. Participants were mother–child pairs 4–5 years after delivery who were seen between July 2016 and August 2017. The children’s memory performance was evaluated individually using a validated Brazilian instrument. Results: Of the 203 children included in the study, 117 (57.6%), 52 (25.6%) and 34 (16.8%) had low, moderate and high memory performance, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, children with a BMI > 85th percentile had 3.33-times higher odds of exhibiting lower memory performance at 4–5 years of age than those with a BMI ≤ 85th percentile. In addition to the children’s BMI at 2 years of age, mother’s education was another independent determinant of children’s memory performance. There was a progressive increase in the odds of children having lower memory performance at 4–5 years of age as the mother’s education decreased. Conclusion: Primary prevention of overweight and management of cognitive functions may be important strategies to improve the cognitive development of children in the future.

We aimed to estimate the effect of age at menarche on the risk of excess body weight in Brazilian women two and four years after delivery. This was a cohort study that used data from adult women of the Predictors of Maternal and Child Excess Body Weight (PREDI) Study obtained at baseline (2012) and at 1st(2014) and 2nd(2016) follow-up. A total of 435 women attending a public maternity hospital in Joinville-Brazil were initially included in the study (baseline) and 215 of them continued to participate in the 2nd follow-up carried out in the homes of the participants. Regression analysis was used to estimate the association between age at menarche (<12; ≥12 years) and excess body weight (≥25 kg/m2) trajectory during the follow-ups. Unadjusted analysis showed that mothers with age at menarche <12 years were 1.29 times (p =.018) more likely to be overweight/obese than those with age at menarche ≥12 years. After adjustment, age at menarche continued to exert an independent effect on the mother's body mass index (RR = 1.23; p =.037) four years after delivery. Abstract Background Little is known regarding the nutritional burden in Chinese ethnic minority children. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of excess body weight and underweight for 26 ethnic groups. Methods Data on 80,821 participants aged 7–18 years across 26 minorities, with completed records from a large national cross-sectional survey, were obtained from Chinese National Survey on Students’ Constitution and Health (CNSSCH) in 2014. Excess body weight, underweight and their components were classified according to Chinese national BMI references. Results The overall prevalence of excess body weight and underweight among ethnic groups were 12.0% and 14.5%, in which 4.4% and 4.1% of the participants were classified as obese and severe wasting, respectively. Objective: There is a close relationship between excess adiposity and cardiovascular disease. Although body mass index (BMI) is the most used approach to estimate excess weight, other anthropometric indices have been developed to measure total body and abdominal adiposity. Here, our objective was to assess the usefulness of these anthropometric indices to detect subclinical atheromatous disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study with 6,809 middle-aged subjects (mean age, 57 [53–63] years) with low to moderate cardiovascular risk from the ILERVAS project. Measures of total body fat (BMI, Clínica Universidad de Navarra – Body Adiposity Estimator [CUN-BAE], and Deurenberg's formula) and central adiposity (waist and neck circumferences, conicity index, waist-to-height ratio, Bonora's equation, the A body adiposity index, and body roundness index) were performed in all participants. Bilateral carotid and femoral ultrasound vascular studies allowed the identification of subjects with plaque. -Results: All measured indices were significantly higher in males with subclinical carotid or femoral plaques (p ≤ 0.021 for all). Also, a positive and significant correlation between all indices and the number of affected territories was found (p ≤ 0.013 for all). From the ROC analysis, all measurements identified patients with asymptomatic atheromatosis but none of them helped make clinical decisions. Regarding females, the results were less conclusive. Conclusion: Obesity indices are related to subclinical atheromatosis, especially in men, in a large cohort of middle-aged subjects. The increasing prevalence of obesity among Canadians has important implications for newly diagnosed cases of cancer given that excess body weight and abdominal adiposity are known to increase the risk of several cancers. The purpose of this analysis was to estimate the current attributable and future avoidable burden of cancer related to excess body weight and abdominal adiposity among Canadian adults. We estimated the population attributable risk (PAR) for all cancers associated with excess body weight and abdominal adiposity using contemporary cancer incidence, relative risk and exposure prevalence data for body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and waist-to-hip-ratio. Using the partial impact fraction (PIF), we also estimated the future avoidable burden of cancer from 2015 to 2042 in Canada, and by province, through various hypothetical intervention scenarios. In 2003, approximately half (50.5%) of the Canadian population was estimated to be overweight (BMI 25.0-29.9) or obese (BMI ≥30.0), 56.5% to have excess abdominal adiposity and 56.8% with a high waist-to-hip ratio. In 2015, the estimated PARs of all incident cancers associated with excess body weight, excess abdominal adiposity and high waist-to-hip ratio were 7.2%, 8.9% and 10.0%, respectively. If the population BMI could revert to its 1994 distribution, 72,157 associated cancer cases could be prevented cumulatively by 2042. A reduction in excess body weight and abdominal adiposity has the potential to decrease the future cancer burden in Canada substantially, and hence efforts to reverse increasing trends in obesity should be prioritized. Background: Memory performance is a cognitive function that is affected by environmental, genetic and socioeconomic factors, as well as by weight status. Aim: To evaluate the association of weight status at 2 years of age with the memory performance of children at 4–5 years of age. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study that used baseline data (2012) and data from two follow-up periods (2014 and 2016) of the PREDI Cohort Study. Participants were mother–child pairs 4–5 years after delivery who were seen between July 2016 and August 2017. The children's memory performance was evaluated individually using a validated Brazilian instrument. Results: Of the 203 children included in the study, 117 (57.6%), 52 (25.6%) and 34 (16.8%) had low, moderate and high memory performance, respectively. After adjusting for potential confounders, children with a BMI > 85th percentile had 3.33-times higher odds of exhibiting lower memory performance at 4–5 years of age than those with a BMI ≤ 85th percentile. In addition to the children's BMI at 2 years of age, mother's education was another independent determinant of children's memory performance. There was a progressive increase in the odds of children having lower memory performance at 4–5 years of age as the mother's education decreased. Conclusion: Primary prevention of overweight and management of cognitive functions may be important strategies to improve the cognitive development of children in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prevalence of excess body weight and the associated cancer burden have been rising over the past several decades globally. Between 1975 and 2016, the prevalence of excess body weight in adults-defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m2 -increased from nearly 21% in men and 24% in women to approximately 40% in both sexes. Notably, the prevalence of obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2 ) quadrupled in men, from 3% to 12%, and more than doubled in women, from 7% to 16%. This change, combined with population growth, resulted in a more than 6-fold increase in the number of obese adults, from 100 to 671 million. The largest absolute increase in obesity occurred among men and boys in high-income Western countries and among women and girls in Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. The simultaneous rise in excess body weight in almost all countries is thought to be driven largely by changes in the global food system, which promotes energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods, alongside reduced opportunities for physical activity. In 2012, excess body weight accounted for approximately 3.9% of all cancers (544,300 cases) with proportion varying from less than 1% in low-income countries to 7% or 8% in some high-income Western countries and in Middle Eastern and Northern African countries. The attributable burden by sex was higher for women (368,500 cases) than for men (175,800 cases). Given the pandemic proportion of excess body weight in high-income countries and the increasing prevalence in low- and middle-income countries, the global cancer burden attributable to this condition is likely to increase in the future. There is emerging consensus on opportunities for obesity control through the multisectoral coordinated implementation of core policy actions to promote an environment conducive to a healthy diet and active living. The rapid increase in both the prevalence of excess body weight and the associated cancer burden highlights the need for a rejuvenated focus on identifying, implementing, and evaluating interventions to prevent and control excess body weight. The article provides an individual risk assessment of metabolic disorders in the child population, consuming drinking water with elevated levels of chloroform. Contingents of children threatened by the development of metabolic disorders are revealed, with a variation of the serotonin receptor gene AG (HTR2A), with increased susceptibility to oral exposure to environmental organochlorines. It was found that children with the gene variation AG HTR2A have the content of serotonin functionally associated with this gene variation reduced by 1.3 times in the blood serum, relative to the comparison group. Individual risk of adverse effects (metabolic abnormalities: excess food and obesity E66.0 E67.8) in these persons is higher (1.32•10 -4 and 1.12•10 -4 , respectively) than in the general population, living in the exposure to chloroform (HQ 1.72).

Obesity is one of the most widespread chronic diseases around the world and may be considered a non-infectious epidemic. Virtually everywhere around the world the number of obese children doubles every three decades. Increase in the number of children with obesity and excess body weight is observed in Russia as well. Despite the statement that the main cause of obesity is energy expenditure/consumption imbalance, numerous data obtained in recent years indicate early factors of obesity forming, probably, during the period of intrauterine development and/or infancy and early childhood. The most active growth and maximum plasticity of metabolic processes is observed within 1,000 post-conceptual days, which cover the period of intrauterine development and the first 2 years of a child’s life. The number and quality of nutrients received during that period considerably affect cell differentiation and organ development by means of gene expression, determine the nature of metabolism and affect health condition throughout the whole subsequent life. Given significance of the issue of excess body weight in children and adults, we analyzed the current situation, examined 652 younger Moscow schoolchildren and determined parameters of their physical development. We analyzed anamnestic data, profoundly examined children with excess body weight and obesity and formulated diets for them. This article presents the first stage of our work and a literature review.
