This experience is an ongoing transactional process between ourselves and our environment. Artworks serve as powerful tools within this process, shaping how we engage with everything from everyday tasks to artistic masterpieces. Through art, we can refine our experiences, gain new perspectives, and even undergo personal transformation. Furthermore, the article delves into the connection between Dewey's concept of art and his broader philosophical ideals, particularly his democratic vision. Art, according to John Dewey, plays a crucial role in a healthy democracy. Artworks can foster a sense of community by providing shared experiences and sparking communication about important social issues. The article further discusses how art can challenge the status quo and inspire citizens to become active participants in shaping their society. Finally, the article explores Dewey's notion of the "Everyday as Artful," where artistic principles can be applied to even the most mundane tasks, enriching our daily lives and contributing to a more aesthetically pleasing society. The new forms and practices of communication on the Internet open up an interdisciplinary field of research within which social media interaction is a central research area. In the first months after the outbreak of the Corona pandemic (2020), fake news has been spread massively via social media. Social media data allow the extraction of large amounts of data and can be used in a variety of ways, e.g., to detect side effects of drugs or to identify groups of people who are critical of certain treatments. Little is known about the diversity of older adults' experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. We therefore investigated the pandemic experiences of home-living vulnerable older adults with depression, an understudied subpopulation. We conducted unstructured interviews with N= 20 older (60+ years) adults with clinical depression receiving care in their homes in June and again in December 2020. Interviews were coded according to the grounded theory approach. We identified eight themes. Participants described feeling disconnected before and during the pandemic, which they attributed to their physical impairments and old age. Their social relations with family, medical providers, and caregivers helped them feel connected. Participants did not feel significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but they missed social and physical contact. During the pandemic, isolation was normalized. Participants therefore experienced loneliness due to their isolation, but also a sense of togetherness with the rest of society. Isolation within the home was re-framed as cocooning, which provided a sense of autonomy. Participants nevertheless expressed resignation. Home-living vulnerable older adults with depression experienced loneliness but also a degree of relief during the pandemic. Positively re-framing isolation and the stability of formal caregiving helped participants endure feeling disconnected during the pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article analyzes the individual experience of the first ten months of moth­erhood before and during the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine using the method of descriptive phenomenology of the body. Corporeality is considered as a basis for a possible description of the motherhood experience. In the analysis, I apply the ideas of Luce Irigaray (deconstruction of the complex image of mother­hood in art, science and philosophy) and Yulia Kristeva (analysis of the Western Christian tradition of depicting a mother with a baby and the narratives embed­ded in it) in the context of returning the discourse about motherhood to women. Based on the ideas of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Iris Young, I turn to a phenom­enological analysis of the body, namely, the female body, as the “first locus of in­tentionality.” In particular, it is about experiencing drastic bodily changes during childbirth and the first weeks of motherhood, the blurring of bodily boundaries between the nursing mother and the baby, the establishment of a common every­day life through the establishment of new repetitive rituals, its cancellation due to the need to flee and the attempt to restore it in a new place. In this regard, I provide the phenomenological interpretation of the home as a space of experiencing security, individuation, privacy and storage (Young) and its loss. I have singled out the processes of sleep and eating as the two main bodily manifestations of anxiety in everyday experience. A key element of the physical maternal experience is breast-feeding, which provides a suitable range of feelings: from pain and sacrifice to comfort and euphoria from union with the child. It was revealed that the specificity of the female body and its adaptation to new requirements within motherhood (in particular, additional weight, softness, endurance, inertness, etc.) made it possible to adapt to new critical circumstances associated with the beginning of a full-scale war, deprivation of a home, experiencing a threat and oppression.

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) has the potential to make everyday experiences exciting and educational. For example, AR can augment exhibits in museums with animated and interactive content. The creation of this content, however, is still facing challenges. To meet these, we employ reusable, pattern-based building blocks called AR nuggets. An AR nugget implements one application pattern in a small and self-contained piece of software to provide a complete solution for recurrent AR-based experiences. For example, in the application context of museums and exhibitions, we identify superimposition or visualization of echolocation as general patterns for AR use cases. AR nuggets encapsulate AR-specific knowledge and sophisticated functionalities to support authors and reduce the authoring task to tweaking existing templates to individual exhibits. To connect AR nuggets used in different exhibition rooms, we present novel AR nuggets that encapsulate the functionalities needed for creating a path between the exhibits. Additionally, we provide examples of AR nuggets that implement a virtual character that guides visitors to exhibits of interest. With this new set of AR nuggets, spatial connections can be authored, e.g., in the form of a guided tour with interactive narration. For this authoring task, we introduce an AR nugget manager that supports authors in creating and adapting multiple non-linear AR experiences. We illustrate our approach with the creation of an everyday AR application for a museum of natural history, share our experiences and discuss to what extent our approach can mitigate authoring challenges for everyday AR applications from a museum’s point of view. This work contributes to the field of everyday AR with 1) a pattern-based authoring concept to create complex everyday AR experiences based on self-contained building blocks, 2) a set of patterns that allows for spatial connections of these to create non-linear AR content, 3) means for supporting this authoring process in the form of an AR nugget manager, 4) lessons learned in applying our authoring concept in a real application case in a museum, 5) our observation of hurdles that still prevent more widespread use of AR in everyday applications during the realization of this application case. This study compared the in-the-moment experiences among mothers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by their household status (i.e., single versus coupled) and region of residence (i.e., regional versus major city area). An experience sampling method was employed to collect data, and a total of 40 mothers used an iOS device to record activity types and in-the-moment experiences for one week during school term. Mann–Whitney U test and multilevel analysis were conducted to compare the experiences of these mothers. The analyses found the following results: 1) mothers spent most time in childcare and least time in self-care activities; 2) coupled mothers were more likely to feel supported; 3) coupled mothers were less likely to feel supported in domestic tasks; 4) mothers from major city were more likely to feel challenged in self-care activities; and 5) mothers from major city were more likely to feel supported in productivity tasks. Limited but significant differences between single and coupled mothers, as well as mothers from regional and major city areas, were found. Future research direction and service provisions were suggested. This study shows that all mothers spent the most time on childcare and the least amount of time on self-care activities. In-the-moment experiences between single and coupled mothers, as well as mothers from major cities and mothers from regional areas, differ somewhat; however, this study builds evidence to support that these mothers' experiences are similar. The result of the study indicates that single mothers require extra support as they carry similar levels of responsibilities as coupled mothers, but without the support of a partner. Promoting a sense of control may assist all mothers to fully engage in parenting activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT There is general agreement that Kant’s thought strongly influenced Heidegger’s. Nevertheless, there is still much work to be done in order to fully appreciate this influence. A central theme to disclose the relation between these authors is the role they give to the transcendental. In this paper I show that Kant’s account of intuition is the focus of Heidegger’s interpretation of Kant in his Die Frage nach dem Ding, since Heidegger interprets Kant’s treatment of intuition as a delimiting of the modern mathematical tendency to determine everything out of pure reason alone. I argue that this interpretation is at the basis of Heidegger’s appropriation of Kant’s synthetic a priori in this work, the aim of which is to take this notion away from the sphere of the objects of mathematical physical science, and place it in the realm of everyday experience. I claim that Heidegger thinks that this move can only be accomplished by removing universality and necessity (epistemic certainty) from Kant’s a priori. Finally, I show that Heidegger’s appropriation of Kant’s synthetic a priori goes together with and illuminates his understanding of transcendence as das Zwischen, ‘the between us and things’.

Recently, geography has included in research the increasing role of religion in postmodern Western society and space. Religion is no more being understood as an objective truth, but as an individual experience of a person with a significant impact on the perception of space and place-making. This problematic undoubtedly requires a new theoretical and empirical perception in the new geographies of religion. This paper appeals for the geographical study of the relation between religion and (postsecular) space could be significantly enhanced using feminist approaches, which enable the inclusion of personal experiences and individuality in the geographies of religion. Using the feminist approaches, the changes in religious climate, ongoing currently in the West, including Czechia, could be better addressed in geography. Thus, the paper theoretically discusses the potential of feminist approaches and argues especially for the relevancy of four topics, personal experience of people, emotions, embodiment, and the everydayness, which can offer new insights into understandings of the relation between religion and space. Similarly, methodologies used by feminist scholars provide unique option for getting to know how religious people interact with sacred as well as secular space. Therefore, the paper aims to justify the contribution of feminist approaches and the empirical research considering the creation of sacred space and framing the everyday religious experience of people.

This article offers emergent methodological frameworks toward sensuously analyzing go-along interviews. Recently, scholars have called for analyses of go-alongs that include affective moments and experiences of the go-alongs to offer insight into everyday experiences beyond the words spoken during the interview. This article offers analytical narratives of a study with trans, queer, and non-binary youth that focus on such moments during go-alongs when the act of doing research brought conversations to a halt. Such attention allows for deeper understanding of how senses experienced during interviews impact that which was produced, and not just what was said, during go-alongs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Leipzig physicist Gustav Theodor Fechner (1801-88) is best known for his introduction of psychophysics, an exact, empirical science of the relations between mind and body and a crucial part of nineteenth-century sensory physiology and experimental psychology. Based on an extensive and close reading of Fechner's diaries, this article considers psychophysics from the vantage of his everyday life, specifically the experience of taking a walk. This experience was not mere fodder for his scientific practice, as backdrop, object, or tool. Rather, on foot, Fechner pursued an investigation of the mind-body parallel to his natural-scientific one; in each domain, he strove to render the mind-body graspable, each in its own idiom, here everyday and there scientific. I give an account of Fechner's walks as experiences that he both undertook and underwent, that shaped and were shaped by the surrounding everyday cacophony, and that carried a number of competing meanings for Fechner himself; the attendant analysis draws on his major scientific work, Elemente der Psychophysik (1860; Elements of Psychophysics), as the thick context that renders the walks legible as an everyday investigation. What results are three modes of walking--physiopsychical, interpersonal, and universal--each engaging the mind-body at a different level, as also engaged separately in Elemente's three major sections, outer psychophysics, inner psychophysics, and general psychophysics beyond the human. This analysis ultimately leads to a new view of Fechner's belief in a God who was "omnipresent and conscious in nature" and whom Fechner encountered daily on his walks in the budding of new blooms and rustling of the wind. The research adopts the mobilities approach to examining the everyday experience of tour guides. Scholars tend to highlight guides as service providers and cultural brokers, whose activities and feelings seem to be subordinate to tourism consumption. In contrast, the research moves beyond the context of business and economy and seeks to resituate tour guiding in ordinary life. It draws on the ethnographic fieldwork in Sanya, a coastal city in south China, and adopts the methods of secondary data collection, interviews and participant observation for data generation. Specifically, the research scrutinises how tourism mobilities are embedded into the production of local guides' daily practices, emotions and feelings. Tour guiding is characterised by movement/stillness, instability and contested meanings. On working days, guides travel with tourists between scenic sites, receiving unstable income. The mobile work greatly shapes their everyday rhythms, social networks, familial lives and identities. On jobless days, guides are likely to confine ordinary practices to residence and suffer from deep anxiety. Immobilities arouse their feelings of inability and worries about the future, thus lowering their expectations of career and personal development. The research problematises the idiosyncrasy of tour guiding and underscores its close relationship with the production of everyday practices and experience, thus giving a wider view on tourism work. In so doing, it also enriches our understanding of the complexity of tourism mobilities and contributes to the debate on the de-differentiation of tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article offers an analysis of mistrust that looks for its origins and constituent elements in everyday life. It begins by outlining the principal factors that facilitate and feed into an attitude of mistrust, arguing that it is everyday and even familiar experiences that typically give rise to mistrust. It then proceeds to explore the sociological and psychological aspects of the phenomenon, suggesting that mistrust can be seen as a competency that allows people to adapt to particular social situations and that it cannot be seen as a mere negative inversion of trust. Finally, it looks at the cognitive and social impact of mistrust and examines the contention that it is intrinsically harmful.

This article analyzes the everyday experience of suburban train commuters in São Paulo. It assesses what it means to travel on saturated lines, paying particular attention to the process of embarkation, where each passenger must rely on himself rather than observing principles standard rules governing the boarding of a train, as well as sexual harassment of women in train cars. It also questions the relationship between public policy measures, calls for civility, individualistic behaviors and male domination.
