This study aimed to interpret the provenance and firing temperature of pottery from Chipyeongdong site in Gwangju, Korea though mineralogical and geochemical methods and also investigated the post-depositional alteration of pottery in burial environments. It is also presumed that they were made of soils near the site because they have similar mineralogical composition and same geochemical evolution path. Based on the results of mineralogical analysis, the pottery samples are largely divided into 2 groups; to and 1,000 to . At some pottery fired at over , it is thought that the refinement of raw materials were processed to remove macrocrystalline fragments. However, it was found that phosphate in soil environments formed amorphous aggregates with Al and Fe within the pores and voids on pottery fired at the low temperature. It indicates the contamination of pottery after burial.

본 연구에서는 마가목 (SC), 현지초 추출물 (GT) 및 이들의 1:1 혼합물 시료 (MIX)가 골손실 및 연골손상 억제에 효과가 있는지 알아보기 위해, 각각의 시료를 조골세포주인 MG-63 세포, 파골세포로의 분화를 유도한 Raw264.7 세포와 연골세포로의 분화를 유도한 ATDC5 세포에 처리하여 세포분화 조절 정도를 확인하였다. 각 세포의 분화 정도는 alkaline phosphatase (ALP) 활성 측정, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) 염색법 및 alcian-blue 염색법으로 확인하였다. 이들 시료는 MG-63 세포에서 ALP 활성에는 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 마가목 추출물 (SC) 및 마가목과 현지초 추출물의 혼합시료 (MIX)는 농도 의존적으로 파골세포의 분화를 억제하고 연골세포의 분화를 촉진하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때, 마가목과 현지초는 골손실과 연골 손상으로부터 보호할 수 있는 중요한 천연물 소재임을 확인할 수 있었다. 나아가 이들 추출물의 작용기전 및 활성물질 구명에 대한 연구는 추후 더 진행되어야 할 것이다. 【This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Sorbus commixta (SC), Geranium thunbergii (GT) and their mixture (SC:GT=1:1, MIX) on inhibition of bone loss and chondral defect. To examine their activities, we measured the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in human osteoblast-like MG-63 cells and performed tartrate-resistant acid phosphate (TRAP) staining in osteoclast differentiated from Raw264.7 cells. To investigate the influence on chondrocyte differentiation, we performed alcian-blue staining in chondrocyte differentiated from ATDC5 cells. All of SC, GT and MIX did not increase ALP activity in MG-63 cells. However, SC and mixture (SC:GT=1:1, MIX) significantly inhibited osteoclastic differentiation. And they also induced chondrocyte differentiation. These results suggest that SC and GT may have a potential for the treatment of bone loss and chondral defect by suppression of osteoclast differentiation and stimulation of chondrocyte differentiation. Therefore, clarification of their mechanisms and active components will be needed.】

To reduce the incisional morbidity and improve cosmesis, the authors adopted a single-port laparoscopic appendectomy using a unique "single-port". The authors retrospectively evaluated transumbilical single-port laparoscopic appendectomy (TUSPLA) against conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (CLA) with respect to perioperative outcomes and operative cost in the adult patients.The authors reviewed the case of laparoscopic appendectomy between April 2008 and January 2009. Demographic data, operating time, pathology of appendix, hospital stay, surgical morbidities, visual analogue scale pain scores, analgesics requirements, and the operative cost were compared.Seventy-two underwent TUSPLA and 108 underwent CLA. There were more females in the TUSPLA group. Surgical outcomes were similar between the TUSPLA and the CLA group. Operative cost was significantly lower in the TUSPLA group compared with the CLA group.This study showed that TUSPLA was cost saving and produced similar surgical outcomes in selected appendicitis patients compared with CLA.

A new method for determining the vitrification rate of pottery depending on the firing temperature was devised using secondary electron images (SEI) of scanning electron microscope (SEM). Several tests were performed to establish the appropriate operating conditions of SEM and reproducibility as well as to examine the applicability of the method. The grayscale values converted from each pixel of SEI were used to determine the vitrification rate of pottery, which in our study were artificially fired specimens composed of three types of clay. A comparison between the vitrification rate value and appearance temperature of minerals shows that mullite formation starts at 1,100°C, during which the vitrification rate rapidly increases by over 10%. In consequence, the result presented here demonstrates that the new method can be applied to estimate the firing temperature of pottery.

This paper performs a further investigation on the q-Bernoulli polynomials and numbers given by Acikgoz et al. (Adv. Differ. Equ. 2010, 9, Article ID 951764) some incorrect properties are revised. It is pointed out that the definition concerning the q-Bernoulli polynomials and numbers is unreasonable. The purpose of this paper is to redefine the q-Bernoulli polynomials and numbers and correct its wrong properties and rebuild its theorems.

A systemic study of some families of 𝑞 -Genocchi numbers and families of polynomials of Nörlund type is presented by using the multivariate fermionic 𝑝 -adic integral on ℤ 𝑝 . The study of these higher-order 𝑞 -Genocchi numbers and polynomials yields an interesting 𝑞 -analog of identities for Stirling numbers.

Recently, many mathematicians have studied various kinds of the -analogue of Genocchi numbers and polynomials. In the work (New approach to q-Euler, Genocchi numbers and their interpolation functions, "Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics, vol. 18, no. 2, pp. 105–112, 2009.", Kim defined new generating functions of -Genocchi, -Euler polynomials, and their interpolation functions. In this paper, we give another definition of the multiple Hurwitz type -zeta function. This function interpolates -Genocchi polynomials at negative integers. Finally, we also give some identities related to these polynomials.

The main purpose of this paper is to study the distribution of Genocchi polynomials. Finally, we construct the Genocchi zeta function which interpolates Genocchi polynomials at negative integers.

Metastatic tumors involving the spermatic cord are very rare, and the prognosis for such patients is poor. The primary tumors that are frequently metastatic to the spermatic cord are gastric and colon carcinomas. We report a case of a 35-year-old male with a metastatic spermatic cord tumor following a palliative anterior resection for sigmoid colon cancer with peritoneal seeding. The patient complained of a tender mass in a right inguinal lesion. A right orchiectomy was performed, and the pathologic finding was a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma similar to that of the sigmoid colon cancer.
