Der konfessionelle Religionsunterricht befindet sich in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in einer tiefen Strukturkrise. Bereits seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wird er bildungs- und rechtspolitisch kontrovers diskutiert. Bei den Beratungen zur Weimarer Verfassung und zum Bonner Grundgesetz löste er schwere Auseinandersetzungen aus. Inzwischen verschärfen sich die rechtlichen Probleme quer durch die Bundesländer. Das Buch betont die Notwendigkeit politischer Reformen. Perspektivisch sollte der bisherige Religionsunterricht durch das Fach Ethik/Religionskunde ersetzt werden. Denominational religious education in the Federal Republic of Germany is undergoing a deep structural crisis. It has been the subject of controversial discussions in educational and legal policy since as early as the 19th century. During the deliberations on the Weimar Constitution and subsequently on the Basic Law (Grundgesetz) of the Bonn Republic, religious education triggered serious disputes. Meanwhile, the legal problems pertaining to religious education have worsened across the federal states of Germany. The book emphasises the need for political reform. In the future, the existing religious education should be replaced by the subject of ethics/religious studies.

This paper aims to review the empirical and theoretical research on engineering ethics education, by focusing on the challenges reported in the literature. The analysis is conducted at four levels of the engineering education system. First, the individual level is dedicated to findings about teaching practices reported by instructors. Second, the institutional level brings together findings about the implementation and presence of ethics within engineering programmes. Third, the level of policy situates findings about engineering ethics education in the context of accreditation. Finally, there is the level of the culture of engineering education. The multi-level analysis allows us to address some of the limitations of higher education research which tends to focus on individual actors such as instructors or remains focused on the levels of policy and practice without examining the deeper levels of paradigm and purpose guiding them. Our approach links some of the challenges of engineering ethics education with wider debates about its guiding paradigms. The main contribution of the paper is to situate the analysis of the theoretical and empirical findings reported in the literature on engineering ethics education in the context of broader discussions about the purpose of engineering education and the aims of reform programmes. We conclude by putting forward a series of recommendations for a socio-technical oriented reform of engineering education for ethics.

Im Horizont des Unterrichts in der Sekundarstufe II sind die Überlegungen des Autors verortet. Er stellt allerdings das Pandemiegeschehen weder in einen lerntheoretischen noch in einen wissenschaftsdidaktischen Deutungsrahmen, sondern in einen ethischen. Sein Hauptanliegen ist die Rolle von ‚Corona‘ im Ethikunterricht. Die konkreten Ausführungen zu den Lehr-Lernaufgaben für den Ethikunterricht sind in grundsätzliche ethische Erwägungen eingebettet. In diesen wird vor allem das strukturelle Dilemma zwischen dem Schutz der Grundrechte des Individuums vor staatlichen Übergriffen und den im Dienste schützenswerter Interessen verordneten Corona-(Zwangs-)Maßnahmen herausgestellt. Welche Herausforderung dieser Konflikt für ethische Interessens- und Güterabwägung zwischen der individuellen und kollektiven Sphäre darstelle, bezeuge der aktuelle öffentliche Diskurs. Der Autor sieht den gesellschaftlichen Diskurs in einer Umbruchsphase, in der die (horizontal gedachte) normative Orientierung zwischen Bewahrung und Erneuerung als ungenügend verworfen und die Notwendigkeit einer vertikalen Dimension erkannt wird. Im Koordinieren pluraler Ansätze und multipler Perspektiven und im vernunftbasiert nachprüfbaren Umgang mit Fakten und Werten liege die Chance für den Basiskonsens aller. Die Rolle der Ethik als Ordinate dieser Diskurse sei offensichtlich, die Vermittlung ethischer Kompetenz zentrales Erfordernis der möglichen Teilhabe daran. Der Beitrag entwickelt, im losen Anschluss an die Arbeiten der Forschungsgruppe von Dietrich Benner, einen sehr durchdachten Ansatz zur Entwicklung von Lehr–Lernaufgaben für den Ethikunterricht und unterlegt ihn mit anregenden Beispielen ethischer Entscheidungserfordernisse unter Pandemiebedingungen. The research question of the article is: How is the contribution of RE and Ethics in the development of worldviews perceived among 9th grade students? The study is based on qualitative interview data (N = 37) gathered from Finnish 9th grade students of different religious and worldview backgrounds. The article will also describe three cases from that sample: from Islamic RE, Lutheran RE and Ethics instruction. The data was analyzed with qualitative content analysis. The results indicate that students’ perceptions on the contribution of RE or ethics to the development of their worldviews could be divided into two groups: RE or Ethics were seen as contributors to students’ already existing worldviews or considered insignificant in relation to the development of their worldviews. Whether the instruction was considered strengthening or irrelevant in the development of a worldview did not depend on the background of the student. Aspects related to experiences about the instruction were intertwined with the questions referring to the contribution of instruction in the formation of worldviews. Tertium comparationis 26 (2020) 2, S. 131-137, The author analyzes a classroom observation of a lesson on traditional versus modern practices of saving money, given in the context of Ethiopia's Civic and Ethical Education (CEE) program. This program's curriculum was central to Ethiopia's post-1991 nation-building project and is in many respects a blueprint for a particular notion of citizenship and personhood, and for relationships between Ethiopians, their nation, and the world. This vignette unveils the deeply controversial nature of the lesson's content and juxtaposes this with the lack of debate encouraged in the classroom. It shows how the CEE curriculum espouses a set of financial priorities here that may be unrealistic for students on the one hand, and antithetical to their religious, community and cultural values on the other. Tertium comparationis 26 (2020) 2, S. 122-130, Based on an ethnographic study in Berlin's secondary school ethics classrooms, the author presents two scenarios that describe how teachers responded to and were challenged by the large influx of refugees that arrived in Germany during the summer and fall of 2015. Specifically, the narratives show how a male teacher's effort to engage his students in a positive exchange with refugee students was challenged by the constant criticism of refugee students by another teacher. The second portrayal describes how a female teacher, in reflecting on her engagement with refugee students and her regular ethics classes, came over the course of an interview to see (religious) diversity as an important aspect with which to engage students in her teaching. Overall, these two examples show how students' experiences of learning about diversity, citizenship, and the global depended considerably on whether or not teachers saw diversity as an opportunity for learning or something requiring discipline; in other words, whether a global geopolitical crisis was treated as an opportunity or a catastrophe. Eine besondere Herausforderung für das professionelle Ethos von Lehrpersonen im Fach «Ethik, Religionen, Gemeinschaft» (ERG) bilden normative Grundannahmen in Bezug auf religiöse und ethische Sachverhalte. Eine zentrale Aufgabe der Ausbildung besteht deshalb darin, den angehenden Lehrpersonen ihre eigenen Standpunkte, Überzeugungen und Vorannahmen in weltanschaulichen Fragen bewusst zu machen, damit sie in der Lage sind, einen fachdidaktisch wie auch menschlich angemessenen Unterricht durchzuführen. Der Beitrag stellt zunächst die Relevanz für das Fach dar, bietet danach einen Überblick über relevante empirische Erkenntnisse und fachdidaktische Konzepte und stellt schließlich Beispiele aus der Ausbildung an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Luzern vor. (DIPF/Orig.), A particular challenge for the professional ethos of teachers in the subject of «Ethics, Religions, Community» are normative assumptions with regard to religious and ethical issues. An important task of initial teacher education is therefore to make pre-service teachers become aware of their own points of view, beliefs, and assumptions in questions of worldviews so that they are capable of conducting teaching that is appropriate for the subject and the students. The article first presents the relevance to the subject and then provides an overview of relevant empirical findings and methodological concepts. For the purpose of illustration, it thereafter presents examples from the teacher preparation programme at the University of Teacher Education in Lucerne.

Do university ethics classes influence students' real-world moral choices? We aimed to conduct the first controlled study of the effects of ordinary philosophical ethics classes on real-world moral choices, using non-self-report, non-laboratory behavior as the dependent measure. We assigned 1332 students in four large philosophy classes to either an experimental group on the ethics of eating meat or a control group on the ethics of charitable giving. Students in each group read a philosophy article on their assigned topic and optionally viewed a related video, then met with teaching assistants for 50-minute group discussion sections. They expressed their opinions about meat ethics and charitable giving in a follow-up questionnaire (1032 respondents after exclusions). We obtained 13,642 food purchase receipts from campus restaurants for 495 of the students, before and after the intervention. Purchase of meat products declined in the experimental group (52% of purchases of at least $4.99 contained meat before the intervention, compared to 45% after) but remained the same in the control group (52% both before and after). Ethical opinion also differed, with 43% of students in the experimental group agreeing that eating the meat of factory farmed animals is unethical compared to 29% in the control group. We also attempted to measure food choice using vouchers, but voucher redemption rates were low and no effect was statistically detectable. It remains unclear what aspect of instruction influenced behavior.

Zusammenfassung Wie kann man das ethische Ernahrungsbewusstsein von Lernenden in der Zweijahrigen Berufsfachschule Profil Ernahrung und Hauswirtschaft fordern? Dieser Frage geht die Dokumentation einer Unterrichtseinheit nach, die im Rahmen des Referendariats an beruflichen Schulen, Baden-Wurttemberg, geschrieben wurde. Dabei wird sich zunachst dem Begriff des ethischen Ernahrungsbewusstseins aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht angenahert. Anschliesend wird mit Hilfe didaktischer und methodischer Uberlegungen eine Unterrichtsreihe fur die Zweijahrige Berufsfachschule konzipiert, im schulischen Alltag umgesetzt und evaluiert. The subject offers a vast area of pedagogical challenges in teaching and learning ERG, which need to be explored empirically as well as analytically.

Der Paradigmenwechsel, der Infolge des PISA-Schocks im Jahr 2000 hervorgerufen wurde, wird durch drei wesentliche Aspekte manifestiert: Bildungsstandards, Kompetenzförderung und die Output-Steuerung (Herzog, 2013). Erziehungswissenschaftler kritisieren allerdings, dass hier der bildungstheoretische Rahmen auf der Strecke geblieben ist (vgl. Dressler, 2013). Als Reaktion auf die Ergebnisse von TIMMS und PISA wird eine stärkere vertikale und horizontale Vernetzung von Fächern gefordert (Koch & Weber, 2014). In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden für die Fächer Biologie, Politik und Ethik die jeweiligen fachspezifischen Kompetenzbereiche auf Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede geprüft und herausgearbeitet, inwiefern sich durch die Kompetenzförderziele der Unterrichtsfächer neue horizontale und vertikalen Strukturen, vor allem mit dem Fokus auf die Urteilsbildung, für Unterricht und Schule empfehlen.

Vor allem und in ganz eigentümlicher Weise gilt dies für Kinder, die die Welt, in die sie hineinwachsen und in der sie leben, verstehen wollen. Ethics Instruction in Thai Primary Schools:A case study in the Reform of Thai Education from 1871 to 1970By Clara Kanchana Singhsa Supervisor: Dr. Marc DepaepeThis research project focuses on a century of educational reform in the Thai educational curricula, from 1871 to 1970. Specifically, it discusses the implications and impacts of the various educational policy reforms of this period towards the modernization of the country s educational system. This project argues, through an in-depth analysis of a number of forward-looking governmental policy approaches undertaken during the reform era that the reform initiatives represented the Thai government s responses to the need of the times for genuine national development through the auspices of a modernized primary educational system. These reforms were expected to result in all round development and economic emancipation of the country. Remaining true, the traditional Thai culture as well as religious ethos, ethics and moral as well as religious values were expected to form the main undercurrent of all such advancements, as is seen in the various policy enactments. However, it is argued that modernized educational curricula on Ethics Instructions that should have held the keys to the attainment of high standards for the people and a genuine national development failed to a great extend in practical spheres. The emphasis on the subject of Ethics Instructions in primary schools as a typical case study becomes relevant in this context. It was the hope of the various governments of the reform period that the delivery of improved educational curricula in Thai primary schools would promote an attitude and culture of moral consciousness among the school going population of the country, as well as open the corridors to genuine human and national development. This was based on the fact that Buddhism was recognized as the country s national religion, whose doctrines formed the pillars of the nation s moral base. Dreams always don t come true as is wished, yet whatever is realised adds momentum to look further ahead. Despite of many difficulties it faced, no doubt that the Thai education reforms that took Ethics instructions as its central pillar did achieve a great amount of success. And this Research project explores various aspects such as the educational aids, challenges and problems faced during the educational reform with a view to better planning and implementing future efforts, not only at the national levels, but even at the community/parochial and local levels.

Cette étude prend appui, d’une part, sur l’analyse d’activités d’apprentissage par problèmes menées en classe de sciences, d’histoire et d’éthique à partir d’une grille structurée autour d’interventions constitutives des pratiques critiques et, d’autre part, sur des entretiens menés auprès d’élèves et d’enseignants. Entre autres résultats, l’auteur indique que les pratiques critiques sont des pratiques situées et que leur transversalité s’inscrit à l’intérieur d’un processus complexe et dynamique pouvant être examiné à partir de quatre pôles, à savoir la discipline, les espaces de résolution, le type de problème ainsi que les rapports aux savoirs. Europäische Erziehung 42 (2012) 1, S. 26-29, "In seinem War Requiem stellte der Komponist, selbst bekennender Pazifist, 17 Jahre nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges, die Verbindung zum Ersten Weltkrieg her, indem er den lateinischen Requiemstext mit Kriegsgedichten des englischen Offiziers Wilfred Owen verflocht, stets von Männersolostimmen gesungen." Das Requiem wurde 1962 in der von deutschen Bomben zerstörten und neu aufgebauten Kathedrale von Coventry uraufgeführt. Der Autor analysiert dies in humanistischer Sichtweise, um es für den fächerübergreifenden (Projekt-)Unterricht - z.B. im Geschichts-, Musik-, Religions- oder Philosophieunterricht, aber auch im Englischunterricht - für die Lehrervorbereitung anzubieten. Er behandelt die Dramaturgie in Text und Musikstruktur dieses Requiems und geht dabei auch auf die symbolträchtige Uraufführung ein. The autor analyzes it in a humanistic view in order to offer it for a cross-disciplinary project as teaching in history, music, religion or philosophy classes, but also in English for the teacher preparation. He outlines the dramatic text and musical structure of the Requiem, and goes into the symbolic world premiere.

Der Artikel dokumentiert die erste empirische Erprobung von ComTrans - einem theoriegeleiteten Ansatz zur Kompetenzdiagnostik und zum kompetenzorientierten Unterricht. Hierfür wurde ein vorläufiges Kompetenzmodell zur "Kompetenz, Handlung ethisch bewerten zu können" rekonstruiert und in vier Schulklassen mit zwei Lehrerinnen im Ethikunterricht der Oberstufe eines Gymnasiums erprobt. Wir gingen dabei vom aktuellen sächsischen Lehrplan für den Ethikunterricht in der Oberstufe des Gymnasiums aus. Aus untersuchungspraktischen Gründen konnten wir uns nur auf eine Unterrichtseinheit mit drei Doppelstunden beschränken. Inhalt der betreffenden Unterrichtseinheit war, dass die Schülerinnen und Schüler lernen Handlungsentscheidungen zu beurteilen, die Begründbarkeit dieser Urteile zu prüfen und diese Überprüfung auf die ethischen Grundpositionen des kategorischen Imperativs und des größtmöglichen Glücks für die größtmögliche Zahl beziehen zu können. Ein für die Studie entwickelter Nachtest wurde als Klassenarbeit von den Schülern bearbeitet. Zusätzlich wurde dieser Test von uns sowohl kriteriumsorientiert ausgewertet, als auch einer Itemanalyse nach der Klassischen Testtheorie und nach dem Rasch-Modell unterzogen. (DIPF/Orig.), The article is documenting the first empirical testing of ComTrans - a theory driven concept for competence diagnostics and competence oriented teaching. Therefore a preliminary model of the 'competence to evaluate actions ethically' was reconstructed and tested with the help of two ethics teachers in four classes in a German secondary school. The basis of our competency model was the current curriculum for the school subject ethics in the Free State of Saxonia. Because of practical reasons we were only able to create and test a teaching unit that involved six forty-five minute lessons. In those lessons the pupils learned how to evaluate their action-decisions and how to verify their judges by considering the basic ethical positions of Kant's categorical imperative and the utilitaristic principle the greatest good for the greatest number. At the end of the teaching unit the pupils were given a test, which was developed on the basis of the competency model.
