- Abstract
Introduction: Sexually diverse nursing students often face situations of stigma and discrimination within the university environment, which can significantly affect their educational experience and well-being. Objective: To understand nursing students' experiences regarding stigma and discrimination due to their sexual orientation or gender identity during their academic training. Materials and Methods: A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight nursing students who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis with the assistance of ATLAS.ti software. Results: The participants were aged 20 to 22 years and were in their sixth to tenth academic semester. Data analysis identified three categories: stigma and discrimination, coping strategies, and university experience. Discussion: The university community, recipients of care, and workers at practicum sites display stigmatizing and discriminatory behaviors toward nursing students who are sexually diverse and break social paradigms of what is considered normal. Conclusion: Nursing students face stigma and discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity during their academic training. To navigate these situations, they adopt coping strategies ranging from concealing their identity to reclaiming words insulting. The university is perceived as a safe space for expression and personal growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: Cell phones have increased as a new communication technology in the modern world. Objective: To determine whether smartphone addiction is significantly associated with depression, anxiety, and stress among university nursing students in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. Material and Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study involved 212 students who voluntarily participated. Data were collected using two questionnaires: the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Version (SAS-SV) and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The information was then analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear and simple logistic regression models. Results: 46.70% (99) use their phones for more than 5 hours a day, and 38.20% (68) of the students presented smartphone addiction. Simple linear regression models showed a significant association between SAS-SV scores and DASS-21 subscale scores. Simple logistic regression models indicated that students with cell phone addiction are 2.57 times more likely to suffer from depression, 2.50 times more likely to experience anxiety, and 3.34 times more likely to suffer from stress compared to those without cell phone addiction. Discussion: Cell phone addiction was associated with such mental disorders among Mexican university students. Conclusions: These results could assist educational authorities in developing and implementing strategies to prevent depression, anxiety, and stress associated with smartphone use. - Abstract
Introduction: Clinical simulation in the management of labor improves undergraduate nursing students' clinical competencies by integrating knowledge, skills, and attitudes. This integration facilitates the internalization of theoretical knowledge, reinforcing self-esteem and confidence in providing care. Objective: To evaluate the effect of clinical simulation on the development of clinical competencies for the management of labor in undergraduate nursing students at a public university in Oaxaca. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental pre- and post-test study was conducted with 38 undergraduate nursing students, men and women, in the sixth (18) and fourth (20) semesters. The sample size for comparison of means was calculated in G*Power 3. Data were collected using the Clinical Simulation Competency Assessment Tool (ClinSimCAT). Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed using the statistical software SPSS version 26.0. Results: The Wilcoxon test revealed statistically significant differences between the mean pretest and post-test scores for the Intervention Group (IG) (p < 0.001). In addition, the Student's t-test showed significant differences between the means of the IG and Control Group (CG) in the post-test (t = 7.598, df = 37, p < 0.0001). Discussion: Clinical simulation significantly improved students' clinical competencies in the management of labor, which is consistent with the findings of other research studies. Conclusion: It is crucial that clinical simulation is not limited to technical procedures but also promotes the development of comprehensive nursing skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of Nursing knowledge, the way in which students learn and the use they make of it to resolve situations specific to the Nursing discipline in the academic and clinical environment is essential for the quality of care. Narrative pedagogy arises from lived experiences and focuses on presenting multiple epistemologies (knowledge), exploring ways of knowing and thinking practices. Objective: To know the perceptions of Nursing students about the use of narratives, as a strategy that allows the learning of epistemological and ontological components for reflective practice in Nursing students. Method: Descriptive qualitative study with content analysis based on inductive categorization using the provisions of Bengtsson, 66 students who took the subject Epistemology of Care participated, the information was collected through a questionnaire with open questions. Results: Five categories emerged: 1. Integration of theory and practice, 2. Learning about Nursing, as a discipline oriented towards practice and humanized care, 3. A means of expression and empathetic communication with the patient, 4. Improving thinking skills critical and reflective, 5. Make care visible as an ethical responsibility in clinical practice. Conclusion: The use of narratives as a pedagogical tool contributes to the development of different dimensions in Nursing students such as critical, reflective and creative thinking. Introduction: Several investigations support that the nursing professional must have cultural competence, but sometimes they do not give the necessary importance during training. Objective: To describe training for intercultural care from the perspective of nursing faculty and students at a Private University in Chiclayo-Perú. Method: Descriptive qualitative research. The sample was not probabilistic for convenience, 10 professors and 10 nursing students participated in the study. For the collection of data, the semi-structured interview via Zoom was applied. The data were processed through thematic content analysis. Results: Two categories arose: a) Importance of training for intercultural care, b) Suggestions for including interculturality in the training process, with four subcategories: (1) Inclusion of interculturality in the classroom by means of workshops, content, competitions and subscriptions, (2) Strengthen community pre-professional practices, (3) Student exchange program, (5) Training of teachers on intercultural care. Conclusions: According to teachers and students, intercultural training in nursing is evident in a tacit way and it is necessary to take care of cultural diversity and these people feel confident and empathetic. However, greater teaching training is needed and implemented in a transversal way in the studio plans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: In Argentina, nursing education shows progress, but it still does not improve the quantitative deficit of the group, nor the distribution by regions. The analysis of academic trajectories makes it possible to identify the path taken by the student in the study plan and to plan remedial measures for those aspects considered deficient. Objective: To analyze the academic trajectories of students of the bachelor's degree in nursing at the National University of Tucumán, through the analysis of academic performance indicators in the period 2015-2019. Methodes: Descriptive, retrospective, and quantitative study. The population was constituted by the total number of students of the bachelor's degree in nursing in the period 2015-2019. Results: The average GPA of the career is 6.35 out of 10 and the average actual duration of the career is 13.35 years, exceeding the expected duration of 5 years. A failure rate was found in 57% of the subjects of the first cycle and 38% of the second cycle. Conclusions: The academic performance of nursing students has decreased in the last decades, which can be seen in the decrease of the grade point average and the increase of the actual duration of the course. These results show the existing decoupling between the academic trajectories of nursing students in relation to those expected by the system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To narrate the systematization of the experience of an educational action with nursing students on the care of people with viral hepatitis. Methods: Systematization of experience, with a participatory approach, which involved a problematizing educational action with 12 nursing students. Data were collected through participant observation in field diaries and meeting minutes, based on meetings and discussions, and by completing a questionnaire administered via a playful platform. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively and qualitative data were analyzed in an exploratory manner using documentary analysis Results: The active participation of students in the idealization, the use of fun and the organization of the activity into modules were some of the learning enhancers about prevention, transmission, diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis. On the other hand, the excess of topics covered in a short period, the remote conduction and the overload with other graduation demands were some limitations of the experience. Conclusion: The use of participatory strategies was a potential instrument in teaching-learning, highlighting the importance of problematizing reality, in an autonomous and emancipatory way, for the transformation of knowledge and practices. It is envisaged that the educational strategy presented can contribute to the professional qualification of nurses with a view to eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To compare anxiety and acute stress levels among nursing students who joined the labour market during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and those who did not. Methods: A cross-sectional, multicentre descriptive study across three Spanish public universities. A total of 216 nursing students participated in our study. Data collection was carried through an online questionnaire, that included variables on conditions for entering the labour market, the Zung Anxiety Self-Assessment Scale and the Stanford Acute Stress Reaction Questionnaire. We performed univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Overall, 42.6% (n=92) of the students entered the labour market during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global anxiety score was x=36.31 (SD=5.71) and the stress score was x=82.39 (SD=30.84). Lower anxiety levels were observed among those who joined the labour market (x=35.67; SD=5.78) as compared to those who did not (x=36.73; SD=5.67). Overall 92.4% of the students were acutely stressed. Acute stress was higher among those who did not work (x=84.35; SD=32.38) and significantly in women. Conclusions: Nursing students were able to cope with stress in situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic. A healthy worker effect could not be ruled out. Stress and anxiety among nursing students should be considered by clinical practice preceptors and at the time students first enter the labour market. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Nursing is a profession in which very complex and challenging emotional situations are experienced. Therefore, knowing how to manage emotions properly is particularly important to avoid chronic stress. Objective: Identifying Emotional situations experienced by nursing students during their clinical experience and their relationship with the skills of the nursing profession, as well as emotional management. Method: Study with a mixed qualitative and quantitative design. The qualitative part is based on the study of emotional situations experienced by students in clinical practices, gathered through an open question on situations that have generated intense emotion. In turn, the quantitative part is focused on the PEI of the students, measured by the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24) questionnaire. Results: The first section identifies two main categories: skills and lack of skills. Among these, the most identified category is that of "skills", the most representative subcategory being that of "empathy", followed by "self-knowledge". In both, the emotional situation identified primarily is death. In the second section, the results are examined, and an association is inferred between the Comprehension dimension of PEI and the skills of the nursing profession. Conclusion: Death is very present in students' emotions in clinical practices, with empathy being the skill with the most significant presence. Emotional comprehension may help to stimulate empathy and promote self-knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
