Simple Summary As China's flagship animal, the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) attracts much attention due to its small population and low natural reproductive rate. Therefore, artificial insemination has become the leading practical approach in the captive breeding programs of giant pandas worldwide. Seminal plasma acts as a medium between spermatozoa and the external stimuli, and its characteristics have been directly linked to fertility in both artificial insemination and natural fertilization. The current work, for the first time, attempts to characterize, by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-1-NMR), the metabolome of healthy giant panda seminal plasma. A total of 35 molecules were quantified, with distinct age-related trends highlighted by a multivariate analysis, and the concentrations of 2,3-butanediol were significantly different between individuals younger than 8 years and older than 13 years. In addition, isopropanol's concentration was significantly linked to estrus stages. Besides, the variations in the metabolome's profile with storage time were also evaluated. This study may serve as a reference for research wishing to shed light on the biological mechanisms affecting giant panda sperm's overall quality and may ultimately lead to novel approaches to giant panda artificial insemination. La rabdomiolisi da sforzo è una miopatia dei cavalli atleti. I fattori di rischio chiamati in causa sono stati discussi in numerosi studi. La predisposizione delle femmine, riconosciuta da molti ed attribuita al temperamento nevrile delle puledre nel PSI6, costituisce tuttora un argomento controverso. Scopo di questo studio è stato di verificare se le variazioni dei livelli sierici degli enzimi muscolari, in cavalle trottatrici sane e affette da rabdomiolisi, siano correlate al ciclo estrale, valutato con esame transrettale, in base a valutazione dei livelli plasmatici di estrogeni e progesterone ed al giudizio di proprietari e/o dagli allenatori. Sulla base del grado di accordo tra queste tre metodiche si è analizzata la capacità del personale addetto alla gestione del cavallo di individuare il periodo del calore.

We report results from a replication in second and third generation female mice of accelerated time to puberty associated with low Pb exposure levels . Mice in the 2nd generation study are offspring of mice from the initial study; the 3rd generation mice are offspring from mice in the 2nd generation study. For each generation the time to puberty onset was markedly influenced by exposure to dietary lead. Modest increases in blood lead concentration from a normal background of 2-3 to 8-13 micro g/dl delayed the onset of puberty by 10-20% from a normal of 33-35 days to about 40-43 days; reducing blood lead from 2-3 to 0.7 micro g/dl was associated with profound acceleration of puberty to 21 days, an enhancement by over 30%. This dose-response relationship, which replicates previous novel findings, has possible ecological as well as public health significance and indicates that lead is able to induce biologically significant changes at blood lead levels previously thought to be without effect.
