Overburden removal in advance of a basement and extension construction was monitored. Four features were found certainly or probably all dating to the late post-medieval or modern periods. The lack of subsoil across the site suggests that the area has been partly truncated during late post-medieval times. No deposits of archaeological interest were revealed.

In total 119 trenches were excavated covering the area of proposed development. A large number of linear features (gullies and ditches) and a small number of pits were investigated, producing a considerable amount of Late Iron Age and Roman (mostly early Roman) pottery. Virtually all of the features correlated with the results of previous geophysical survey. Two pits appeared to be of Neolithic (or perhaps Early Bronze Age) date, based on struck flint finds. Apart from the odd isolated find, no other periods appear to be represented. Two fairly large enclosures seem to be present, and both of these areas can be considered to have high archaeological potential. Large parts of the site, however, revealed no features and have markedly lower archaeological potential, if any.

No deposits or finds of any archaeological interest were encountered.

Three foundation trenches for a single-storey side extension were observed. No archaeological deposits were identified nor finds recovered.

The excavation comprised seven area strips that were targeted at features found during an evaluation. The majority of features revealed were linear in nature and probably represent one or more field systems. Some of the linear features contained postmedieval artefacts and others corresponded with boundaries depicted on 19th-century maps. The majority of the features were technically undated but are also thought to be of postmedieval date due to similarities with the dated examples. Levelled medieval/post-medieval furrows were episodically encountered in the excavation areas. Roman finds and artefacts from the excavation phase of the project were exclusively recovered from Area G, which corresponds with the main findings of the evaluation. The deposits comprised a shallow hollow or cluster of intercutting pits containing at its latest 2nd-3rd century AD pottery along with an L-shaped ditch, probably part of a rectangular enclosure. Residual Roman pottery was also recovered from nearby post-medieval features.

Nothing of archaeological interest was observed.

The fieldwork comprised excavation of two areas on the site. One area revealed two ditches, one of Middle Bronze Age date and one with Early Roman pottery. The other revealed only late post-medieval features.

No deposits nor artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.

Of the six areas stripped of topsoil and subsoil, three areas contained further or additional deposits to the undated features found in the evaluation. Three features contained pottery, which were prehistoric in date and a single sherd of Roman date was recovered from a ditch in Area A. This ditch cut a ring gully, though no datable material was uncovered from the latter's fill.

Monitoring of new service trenches for the proposal did not reveal any artefacts or deposits of archaeological interest.

Cropmarks on the site were investigated and shown to be natural (treeboles and periglacial fissures). Nothing of archaeological interest was found.

No archaeological features or finds were observed during the course of the watching brief.

A probably mdoern pit, an undated ditch and a tree-throw hole were the only features observed. The only finds were post-medieval brick/tile.

No archaeological deposits or artefacts were observed during the stripping of the easement for the laying of the drain, while the deeper works for the pipe itself were entirely within the sterile natural geology.

Beneath modern truncation, layers which contained medieval pottery and tile were uncovered, but these were stratigraphically above layers contained post-medieval material and thus all the medieval finds are residual. The exterior wall of the listed building was also recorded photographically before the new extension would conceal it.

No archaeological features or finds were encountered; two of the three trenches showed modern disturbance and truncation.
