Additive manufacturing has shown advantages for nanocomposite fabrication. Despite VAT-photopolymerization being one of the first developed 3D printing technologies, high device costs made it a technology that was difficult to access. The massive production of these devices in recent years has opened this technology to everyone. Stereolithography and Digital light processing are the most prominent technologies used in this field. This systematic review studied 217 articles regarding SLA and DLP for additive manufacture of nanocomposites. The main finding of this systematic review shows that further research on circular economy and life cycle assessment of the SLA and DLP technologies is urgently needed. Also, a deeper discussion on the technology and material costs is recommended in order to give a more detailed insight on the final cost of these 3D-printed nanocomposites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work aims to briefly present the cutting edge of 3D printing innovation in healthcare. This technology is used for surgical planning, medical education, bioprinting of tissues, and medical equipment spare parts in fields like pharmacology, prosthetics, surgery, and regenerative medicine. A review of the last decade was made in the search engines of PubMed and Espacenet. Three authors reviewed titles, abstracts, and keywords separately to identify studies appropriate to the topic. After the initial examination, complete texts of identified relevant studies were obtained and classified according to the authors. Results were synthesized in a narrative literature review. The revision showed that 3D printing has become of common use in the healthcare system since it allows medical personnel to implement customized solutions for each patient, thus reducing the probability of a false diagnostic or treatment. Major applications among the advantages and disadvantages of 3D printing in healthcare were presented. Nowadays, the main challenge in 3D printing is the cost of the equipment and its manufacturing. In the future, the challenges in cost could be reduced, but processing requirements and limited materials may still need further work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El ameloblastoma es un tumor benigno, localmente agresivo, que ocasiona deformidades faciales y con tendencia a la recurrencia. El objetivo del tratamiento del ameloblastoma es la remoción completa del tumor, la restauración de la función y el mantenimiento del aspecto estético. Se presenta el caso de un varón de 19 años que presenta tumoración en región mandibular y acude a consulta para tratamiento quirúrgico. Se realizó planificación virtual y modelo de impresión en 3D para reconstrucción mandibular con colgajo libre de peroné y modelo estereolitográfico para el manejo de su patología. Se observó una evolución post operatoria favorable; y una patología compatible con ameloblastoma mandibular intraóseo de patrón plexiforme. Si bien la cirugía es el tratamiento de elección para el diagnóstico de ameloblastoma; la planificación virtual y el modelo de impresión en 3D para la reconstrucción son herramientas útiles en el manejo de esta patología.

Objective: To share our experience in creating precise anatomical models using available open-source software., Methods: An affordable method is presented, where from a DICOM format of a computed tomography, a segmentation of the region of interest is achieved. The image is then processed for surface improvement and the DICOM format is converted to STL. Error correction is achieved and the model is optimized to be printed by stereolithography with a desktop 3D printer., Results: Precise measurements of the dimensions of the DICOM file (CT), the STL file, and the printed model (3D) were carried out. For the C6 vertebra, the dimensions of the horizontal axis were 55.3 mm (CT), 55.337 mm (STL), and 55.3183 mm (3D). The dimensions of the vertebral body were 14.2 mm (CT), 14.551 mm (STL), and 14.8159 mm (3D). The length of the spinous process was 18.2 mm (CT), 18.283 mm (STL), and 18.2266 mm (3D), while its width was 8.5 mm (CT), 8.3644 mm (STL), and 8.3226 mm (3D). For the C7 vertebra, the dimensions of the horizontal axis were 58.6 mm (CT), 58.739 mm (STL), and 58.7144 mm (3D). The dimensions of the vertebral body were 14 mm (CT), 14.0255 mm (STL), and 14.2312 mm (3D). The length of the spinous process was 18.7 mm (CT), 18.79 mm (STL), and 18.6458 mm (3D), and its width was 8.9 mm (CT), 8.988 mm (STL), and 8.9760 mm (3D)., Conclusion: The printing of a 3D model of bone tissue using this algorithm is a viable, useful option with high precision., (Copyright: © 2024 Permanyer.)

RESUMEN: La reconstrucción de las paredes orbitarias fracturadas es compleja debido a la gran cantidad de parámetros volumétricos que posee. Una restitución inadecuada de ellas habitualmente está asociada a secuelas postquirúrgicas en el paciente. El contar con herramientas que optimicen la restitución de la forma anatómica de la órbita en su reconstrucción es de vital importancia, y la utilización de nuevas tecnologías ha permitido mejorar los resultados quirúrgicos, tanto anatómicos como funcionales. El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar dos herramientas quirúrgicas que permiten optimizar los resultados terapéuticos en pacientes con fractura de órbita, que son el modelo estereolitográfico con imagen en espejo y la tomografía computada intraoperatoria. Se presentan las características de estas herramientas, su utilización en tres casos de pacientes con fractura orbitaria y los resultados obtenidos en el post operatorio.

[ES] La estereolitografía con materiales cerámicos es un tipo de fabricación aditiva que permite la creación de piezas cerámicas con geometrías complejas. Esto presenta un gran interés para diversas industrias como la biomédica, la aeroespacial, la electrónica o la automovilística. Sin embargo, a día de hoy, se trata de una tecnología que se encuentra en una fase relativamente temprana de su desarrollo. Es por este motivo por el que se están llevando a cabo diferentes estudios encaminados a mejorar y optimizar este proceso, así como a buscar el empleo de más materiales cerámicos. No obstante, no se han encontrado estudios encaminados al diseño de soportes y la optimización de los mismos para la fabricación de las piezas mediante esta tecnología. Por tanto, en este trabajo se diseñarán varios soportes para corregir los problemas más comunes que han ido apareciendo durante la fabricación de las piezas mediante SLA cerámica. Dentro de los soportes diseñados existen 2 tipos de soportes diferentes, los soportes con contacto y los soportes sin contacto. Los soportes con contacto se emplean principalmente para evitar la aparición del efecto curling en las piezas, el cual consiste en el levantamiento de las esquinas de la pieza. Como estos soportes están en contacto con la pieza, es necesario facilitar su eliminación posterior. Por otro lado, los soportes sin contacto con la pieza se emplean principalmente para evitar los desplazamientos de las capas de la pieza durante el proceso de impresión y para el soporte de voladizos de las mismas. Ambos tipos de soportes serán diseñados en este trabajo para solucionar estos problemas, además de buscar optimizar su diseño para consumir la menor cantidad de material posible [EN] Ceramic stereolithography is a type of additive manufacturing that allows the printing of complex ceramic pieces. This characteristic arises a great interest in various fields like the biomedical, aerospace, electronical or automotive. However, nowadays, this technology is still in an early stage of development. Because of this, there has been a lot of studies with the objective of improving and optimizing this technology and for searching the implementation of more ceramic materials. Nevertheless, there have been not found many studies regarding the design and optimization of supports for ceramic SLA. For this reason, in this work, supports will be designed for correcting the common defects attached to ceramic SLA. Regarding these supports, there are 2 types of them, contact supports and contactless supports. On one hand, contact supports are used mainly for avoiding the curling effect in the printed pieces, which consist in the curling of the corners of the piece. Because this kind of supports are in direct contact with the part, they should be easy to remove. On the other hand, contactless supports are used mainly for avoiding the displacement of the layers during the part printing and for supporting their cantilevers. Both kind of supports are designed in this work for fixing these defects. Also, in this work, the design of these supports is going to be optimized to waste as little material as possible.

10. Impresión de modelos 3D para fracturas de radio distal: un estudio piloto en el Instituto Nacional de Rehabilitación.

BACKGROUND: Although it has shown multiple benefits in preoperative fracture planning, 3D impressions have not been routinely implemented due to difficult access. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A pilot study was conducted with 10 patients with a diagnosis of distal radius fracture and need for surgical management. Patients were evaluated by radiography, tomography with 3D reconstruction and stereolithography prior to their surgical management. The editing of TAC images was done using the 3D SLICER® program for printing on thermoplastic material and finally a questionnaire of satisfaction was made to doctors and patients. RESULTS: 3D models of distal radius fractures were performed preoperatively. 100% of the patients clearly understood the severity of their condition. Doctors, reported a 42% improvement in fracture classification, 90% referred to 3D printing as a useful preoperative tool. CONCLUSIONS: 3D impressions promise to be a tool not only for a better understanding and classification of distal radius fractures, but also for a better understanding by our patients. 11. 3D Printing of Stereolithographic Models with Open Protocol

A descriptive and exploratory study was carried out with the aim of proposing and validating an open protocol for making 3D impressions of stereolithographic models, which is available to professionals in the area of Dentistry. Nine operators (senior students of the Dentistry degree), without previous experience in the use of software and hardware for 3D printing, divided into two groups were trained through theoretical and practical sessions. The A worked with three helical tomographies (TAC) and the B with three cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), all in DICOM format, converted to STL files. In total, 99 bone structures corresponding to 33 jaws, 33 axis and 33 facial masses-skull bases were analyzed, and a total of 33 jaws were printed in PLA (polylactic acid filament). At the end of the study, no statistically significant difference was found in the implementation of the proposed protocol between the operators, the measurements of the pieces printed by each of them, the gold standard, the TAC and the CBCT, with which not only validated the protocol, but it was possible to determine the resources necessary to carry out this type of 3D printing. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y exploratorio con el objetivo de proponer y validar un protocolo abierto para hacer impresiones 3D de modelos estereolitográficos, que esté a disposición de profesionales en el área de la Odontología. El enoftalmos postraumático se define como la discrepancia entre el volumen orbitario y su contenido; este balance puede verse alterado por múltiples factores, como el secuestro tardío del contenido orbitario por atrapamiento en el sitio de la fractura, herniación del contenido orbitario, necrosis del tejido adiposo orbitario, contracción cicatricial del tejido retrobulbar, pérdida del sistema de suspensión ligamentario del globo ocular y aumento de volumen de la cavidad orbitaria. El presente estudio aborda el problema del enoftalmos postraumático como una deformidad difícil de corregir. Están descritos abordajes cutáneos extensos como el coronal, el subciliar o el intraoral; la técnica descrita por Henry Kawamoto en 1998 describe un procedimiento de menor invasión mediante abordajes de mínima exposición que permiten la refracturación y el alineamiento del cuerpo zigomático, brindando así grandes ventajas sobre las técnicas convencionales. Presentamos el método aplicado en el servicio de Cirugía Reconstructiva del Centro Médico del Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de México y Municipios (ISSEMyM) para el manejo de pacientes con enoftalmos como secuela de traumatismos del complejo cigomático-malar; para ello empleamos un método por asistencia con modelos estereolitográficos para la planificación quirúrgica del diseño de osteotomías para corregir la deformidad facial y para determinar las dimensiones del defecto a reparar, así como el tipo y cantidad de materiales aloplásticos o autólogos a emplear. Compartimos la experiencia de los casos tratados en nuestro Servicio entre 2006 y 2010.Post-traumatic enophthalmos is defined as the discrepancy between the orbital volume and its content; this balance can be altered by many factors, such as the entrapment or herniation of the orbital content at the fracture site, orbital adipose tissue necrosis, scar contraction of the retrobulbar tissue, loss of the eyeball suspension system and the increase in orbital volume. This paper deals with the management of post-traumatic enophthalmos as a difficult deformity to treat. Extensive cutaneous approaches have been described, as the coronal, intraoral and subciliar. In 1998 Henry Kawamoto described approaches less invasive allowing minimal exposure, based on the fracturing and re-alignment of the zygomatic body, thus providing great benefits. This method is applied at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de Mexico y Municipios (ISSEMyM) in the management of enophthalmos as a post-traumatic sequelae, with stereolithographic assistance for surgical planning and re-fracturing design of the facial deformity and to determine the size of the defects to repair with autologous or alloplastic materials. We is share our experience with cases treated by our department between 2006 and 2010.

En aquest projecte es duu a terme un estudi sobre com millorar les propietats de peces de resina fetes amb impressió 3D. El principal objectiu, és el de classificar, de forma intuïtiva per a qualsevol usuari, quins tractaments i materials té disponibles, com aplicar-los i quins avantatges o desavantatges obtindrà. Després de l’estudi de recerca d’informació teòrica, s’ha realitzat una prova de caracterització amb diversos tipus de resina. S’han dissenyat uns models, amb l’objectiu d’estudiar la seva metrologia dimensional i se’ls ha realitzat un assaig de tracció. El projecte conté una segona utilitat enfocada a que els tractaments assequibles siguin accessibles per tothom. Per això s’ha fet el disseny d’una cambra de curat, per l’àmbit domèstic i per a peces petites. El disseny està basat en contenir els elements essencials, fàcils d’obtenir i amb un procés de muntatge accessible amb eines domèstiques comunes als habitatges. En l’elecció dels elements que el composen, s’ha fet el possible per minimitzar el seu impacte mediambiental, fent ús de materials biodegradables com el PLA i elements no nocius per a la salut. S’ha dut a terme, la construcció d’una cambra de curat, seguint complint tots els criteris que s’han explicat, i s’ha provat eficaçment. Un cop funcional, s’ha utilitzat per realitzar molts dels tractaments posteriors a les peces de resina per a la prova de caracterització. Tots els passos seguits, s’han descrit pas a pas amb tota la informació necessària i amb imatge, perquè qualsevol usuari de qualsevol àmbit pugui fer-ne ús eficaçment., In this project a study on how to improve the properties of resin pieces made with 3D printing is done. The main target is to classify intuitively for any user, which treatments and materials has available, how to apply them and which advantages and disadvantages will get. After the search study of theoretical information, a characterization test with various types of resin is made. Two different models have been designed for the purpose of studying its dimensional metrology and a tensile test has been made. The project contains a second utility focused on affordable treatments are accessible to anybody. Then, a curing chamber has been designed for domestic use and for small parts. The design is based on containing the essential parts, easy to obtain and with an accessible assembly process with common household tools. When the basic elements have been chosen, it has been tried to minimize its environmental impact, using biodegradable materials like PLA and not harmful elements to health. It has been made, the construction of a curing chamber, following all the criteria explained and have been effectively tested. Once the camber it has been working, has been used to apply most of the treatments studied to the resin parts for the characterization test. All the steps followed, have been described step by step with all the necessary information and with pictures, as any user of any field can make effective use.

19. 3D Printing of Stereolithographic Models with Open Protocol

A descriptive and exploratory study was carried out with the aim of proposing and validating an open protocol for making 3D impressions of stereolithographic models, which is available to professionals in the area of Dentistry. Nine operators (senior students of the Dentistry degree), without previous experience in the use of software and hardware for 3D printing, divided into two groups were trained through theoretical and practical sessions. The A worked with three helical tomographies (TAC) and the B with three cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), all in DICOM format, converted to STL files. In total, 99 bone structures corresponding to 33 jaws, 33 axis and 33 facial masses-skull bases were analyzed, and a total of 33 jaws were printed in PLA (polylactic acid filament). At the end of the study, no statistically significant difference was found in the implementation of the proposed protocol between the operators, the measurements of the pieces printed by each of them, the gold standard, the TAC and the CBCT, with which not only validated the protocol, but it was possible to determine the resources necessary to carry out this type of 3D printing., Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y exploratorio con el objetivo de proponer y validar un protocolo abierto para hacer impresiones 3D de modelos estereolitográficos, que esté a disposición de profesionales en el área de la Odontología. Se capacitó mediante sesiones teórico prácticas, a nueve personas operadoras (estudiantes de último año de la carrera de Odontología), sin previa experiencia en el uso de software y hardware para impresión 3D, divididos en dos grupos; el A trabajó con tres tomografías helicoidales (TAC) y el B con tres Tomografías Computarizadas de Haz Cónico (CBCT), todas en formato DICOM, convertidas en archivos STL. En total se aplicó el protocolo en 99 estructuras óseas correspondientes a 33 mandíbulas, 33 axis y 33 macizos faciales-bases de cráneo, y se imprimieron un total de 33 mandíbulas en filamento PLA (ácido poliláctico). Al finalizar el estudio, no se encontró diferencia estadísticamente significativa en la implementación del protocolo propuesto entre los operadores, las mediciones de las piezas impresas por cada uno de ellos, el patrón de oro, la TAC y el CBCT, con lo cual no solo se validó el protocolo, sino que se logró determinar los recursos necesarios para realizar este tipo de impresiones 3D.

Cone Beam Computed Tomographs (CBCT) provide high-quality 3D images with submillimeter resolutions, fairly short scantimes (10 to 70 seconds) and radiation doses up to 15 times lower than classic CT systems. Thanks to this, its use in differentareas, both in dentistry and in other areas, has increased significantly. Additionally, the advancement of teleradiology and thecompatibility of the resulting DICOM images with different types of planning, simulation and 3D printing software; have madeit possible to consolidate a powerful tool for the possible early and accurate diagnosis of different deep lesions, anomalies andthe acquisition of deep knowledge about a specific maxillofacial area and its relationship with adjacent structures. However,its resulting measurements with very little error range and the possibility of generating three-dimensional reconstructionsmake it a clear pedagogical instrument of great utility in modern archaeological, technological, forensic, anthropologicaland biomedical investigation techniques. This article provides an overview of CBCT systems, their associated computationaltechnologies, and demonstrates their applicability as tools for the analysis, preservation, reconstruction and reproduction ofarchaeological pieces. As a test, its application in the acquisition of different stereolithographic models of archaeologicalremains of the Pumapungo Museum in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador is described

La introducción de la impresión en tres dimensiones (3D) como técnica de elaboración de medicamentos ha causado un gran impacto en la industria farmacéutica. Al contrario que en las técnicas de fabricación conocidas hasta ahora, esta técnica nos permite realizar medicamentos ajustados a las necesidades del paciente, es decir, podemos fabricar un medicamento con una geometría, dosis e incluso farmacocinética ajustada a los requerimientos del paciente. Entre las numerosas técnicas de impresión 3D, en esta revisión nos vamos a centrar en la estereolitografía (SLA), una técnica de impresión 3D que se basa en la fotopolimerización de resinas, es decir, usar una fuente de luz para curar resina líquida y transformarla en estado sólido. El desarrollo y potencial que presenta esta técnica han permitido fabricar novedosos sistemas impresos 3D como implantes óseos, sistemas multicapas orales o parches transdérmicos para el tratamiento de la diabetes o el acné. El objetivo de esta revisión es describir cómo funciona la impresión 3D por medio de SLA, dar visión a todos los medicamentos que han sido fabricados por medio de esta técnica, así como analizar por qué aún no tenemos medicamentos comercializados fabricados con esta técnica. El objeto de estudio de este proyecto se basa en la puesta en marcha de una nueva tecnología de impresión 3D para la fabricación de sustratos de alta frecuencia: la estereolitografía. Esta tecnología emplea como material resina fotosensible que se solidifica mediante una matriz de luces LED capa a capa. Además, diseñaremos y fabricaremos unos circuitos sencillos de test para la caracterización de la resina (constante dieléctrica y tangente de pérdidas) mediante la puesta en marcha de una estación de puntas para la medición de las respuestas. Finalmente, conociendo el comportamiento del material, mostraremos el potencial que tiene el uso de esta tecnología creando una estructura periódica con un perfil sinusoidal de alturas. The object of study of this project is based on the implementation of a new 3D printing technology for the manufacture of high frequency substrates: stereolithography. This technology uses photosensitive resin as a material that is solidified by a layer-by-layer matrix of LED lights. In addition, we will design and manufacture simple test circuits for the characterization of the resin (dielectric constant and loss tangent) by setting up a tip station to measure the responses. Finally, knowing the behavior of the material, we will show the potential of the use of this technology by creating a periodic structure with a sinusoidal height profile.

Many techniques have been proposed for surgical training as a learning process for young surgeons or for the simulation of complex procedures. Stereolithograpfy, a rapid prototyping technique, has been presented recently as an option for these purposes. We describe the case of a 12 years old boy, diagnosed with Ewing´s sarcoma in the cervical spine. After a surgical simulation accomplished in the prototype, built by stereolithography, the patient was submitted to a C4 corpectomy and to a C4 and C3 laminectomy with anterior and posterior fixation, a non intercurrence procedure. This technique is an innovative and complementary tool in diagnosis and therapy. As a result, it is easier for the surgeon to understand the complexity of the case and plan the approach before any surgical procedure.Lesões tumorais da coluna podem representar um grande desafio para equipe cirúrgica. A estereolitografia é uma técnica de construção de peças anatômicas a partir de desenhos gráficos ou exames radiológicos. Apresentamos um paciente de 12 anos, com quadro de cervicobraquialgia à direita com diagnóstico de sarcoma de Ewing. Ao exame neurológico, o paciente apresentava-se com paresia em MSD grau IV e leve hipoestesia em dermátomos de C6 à T1 à direita. RM evidenciou edema intra e extra-ósseo com compressão medular e instabilidade cervical. Realizada simulação cirúrgica no protótipo construído por estereolitografia. Foi submetido a corpectomia de C4 e a laminectomia C4 e C3, com fixação anterior e posterior, procedimento sem intercorrências. A estereolitografia é ferramenta inovadora no auxílio diagnóstico e terapêutico. Seu uso permite ao cirurgião entender fisicamente o sítio da lesão, estudar a via de acesso e perceber a real complexidade do caso antes do procedimento cirúrgico.

Se presenta un estudio teórico y experimental, sobre resinas termosensibles usadas en estereolitografía térmica. Se estudia el proceso de cura local mediante la aplicación de radiación infrarroja producida por el láser de CO2 (10.6 μm), el cual mostró ser útil en técnicas nuevas, para la fabricación de prototipos por medio de calentamiento selectivo. La composición ideal para cura local de las resinas termosensibles, está en la proporción de 10.0 partes de epoxi, 1.4 partes de dietilentriamina y 0.7 partes de sílice. Para controlar los parámetros que influyen en el confinamiento de la cura a través de la irradiación, se utiliza un modelo teórico-físico. Se utiliza un modelo matemático en coordenadas cilíndricas basado en la ecuación de conducción de calor dependiente del tiempo, que permite determinar el comportamiento de cura en función de las condiciones de irradiación.

MÉTODOS: 140 espécimes foram impressos em impressoras 3D do tipo SLA (estereolitografia a laser) e DLP (estereolitografia por processamento digital de luz) para cada teste mecânico realizado e foram divididos em 28 grupos, de acordo com a resina (4 tipos: Blue, Gray, Surgical Guide, Standard) e o tempo de pós cura com luz ultravioleta (7 tempos: 0, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 e 120 minutos). Foram realizados os testes de microdureza Vickers, tração diametral e flexão três pontos. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a uma ANOVA de dois níveis e ao pós teste de Tukey. Para a avaliação das alterações dimensionais de modelos odontológicos foram realizados dois experimentos distintos. No primeiro, 56 modelos odontológicos do arco maxilar em formato de ferradura foram impressos na impressora MoonRay S100 (SprintRay) com a resina Gray (SprintRay), variando a orientação de impressão, a presença de barra e o processo de pós cura. Depois de impressos foram escaneados em escâner de mesa R700 (3Shape) e então foram realizadas as medições transversais entre caninos, primeiros e segundos pré-molares e molares e de comprimento de arco no software VistaDent OC (Dentsply Sirona). No segundo, 56 modelos foram impressos com a mesma resina e impressora, variando o tipo de modelo, presença de barra e polimerização. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a fiabilidade de um modelo impresso com uma resina para guia cirúrgico utilizada em dois modelos de impressoras diferentes. Materiais e Métodos: Após criação de um modelo mestre em STL com medidas padronizadas em formato digital (Grupo Controle) que foi utlizado para a produção de 20 modelos simulando guias cirúrgicos impressos e divididos em dois grupos (10 modelos em cada grupo) de acordo com a impressora utilizada (FDM ou DLP). Os modelos foram medidos relativamente a sua espessura, largura, comprimento e no diâmetro da abertura do guia cirúrgico, com paquímetro manual e os dados forma analisados estatisticamente. Resultados: Na largura e na espessura não forma encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os grupos, porem a espessura apresentou diferença significativa do grupo FDM para os demais e o diâmetro teve diferença significativa entre todos os grupos com o grupo DLP apresentando mais desvio do planeado que o grupo FDM. Conclusão: Com base nos resultados obtidos, pode-se afirmar que a impressora DLP é mais precisa com relação ao modelo digital do que a impressora do tipo FDM. Resultando em um modelo com dimensões próximas aos valores planejados no software de manipulação de imagens 3D, porém, as medidas dos furos simulando as aberturas de uma guia cirúrgica foram muito pequenas em relação ao diâmetro planejado, o que pode dificultar o uso do instrumental cirúrgicos ou mesmo a instalação de arruelas metálicas, que podem ocasionar alterações no posicionamento final do implante em relação ao planejado virtualmente.

Post-traumatic enophthalmos is defined as the discrepancy between the orbital volume and its content; this balance can be altered by many factors, such as the entrapment or herniation of the orbital content at the fracture site, orbital adipose tissue necrosis, scar contraction of the retrobulbar tissue, loss of the eyeball suspension system and the increase in orbital volume. This paper deals with the management of post-traumatic enophthalmos as a difficult deformity to treat. Extensive cutaneous approaches have been described, as the coronal, intraoral and subciliar. In 1998 Henry Kawamoto described approaches less invasive allowing minimal exposure, based on the fracturing and re-alignment of the zygomatic body, thus providing great benefits. This method is applied at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de Mexico y Municipios (ISSEMyM) in the management of enophthalmos as a post-traumatic sequelae, with stereolithographic assistance for surgical planning and re-fracturing design of the facial deformity and to determine the size of the defects to repair with autologous or alloplastic materials. It is used in several areas such as automobile industry, engineering, architecture and in the last decades has been applied in the area of health technology, involving the production of orthoses and prostheses for treatment / rehabilitation of patients. In order to better understand the processes and behaviors of the materials used some research has been developed. In this sense, the present research aimed to characterize thermally and mechanically the performance of the Sheraprint-sg resin (used for making surgical guides) printed by the Stereolithography method (SLA). The applied methodology tried to characterize the samples made in two orientations in the printing tray (group 1 / vertical - x axis and group 2 / horizontal - y axis) and the rate with internal fill rates of 50% and 100% through the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetry (TGA) Dynamic-Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Vickers Microhardness. From the analysis of the DSC / TGA curves, it was possible to calculate the enthalpy (5,677 J / g and 1.0988 J / g) and the degradation temperature (396 ° C) of the Sheraprint-sg resin. Objetivo: a hiperplasia condilar unilateral é uma condição rara do desenvolvimento ósseo causada pela hiperatividade do centro de crescimento que resulta em um crescimento excessivo e autolimitado do côndilo mandibular. Caracteriza-se e pelo alongamento progressivo do processo condilar levando a características como assimetria facial, alongamento do terço inferior da face, má oclusão e ocasionalmente disfunção temporomandibular. Diante das formas de tratamento, o preparo ortodôntico associado à cirurgia ortognática e a condilectomia apresentam resultados satisfatórios. Relato de Caso: caso clínico de um paciente do sexo masculino, 28 anos de idade, portador de hiperplasia condilar unilateral com assimetria facial severa, protrusão mandibular e desvio do mento. O tratamento foi realizado no Hospital Federal dos Servidores do Estado através de cirurgia ortognática maxilomandibular com mentoplastia associada à condilectomia alta, planejada previamente utilizando modelos estereolitográficos. A condilectomia resultou na remoção do centro responsável pela hiperatividade condilar permitindo um segundo tempo cirúrgico para correção da deformidade esquelética com melhora estético-funcional do paciente. Conclusão: o mesmo se encontra em controle pós-operatório de seis anos, sem recidiva e com um padrão de oclusão satisfatório.

Este trabalho apresenta uma Avalia??o do Ciclo de Vida (ACV) do ?ber?o-aoport?o? de l?quidos i?nicos polimeriz?veis (PILs) em impress?o 3D usando aparelho de estereolitografia. Primeiramente, a fim de fornecer uma vis?o geral atualizada sobre o estado da arte envolvendo os estudos da ACV em l?quidos i?nicos (LIs), uma revis?o sobre o tema foi conduzida. Esta revis?o recomenda uma lista de quest?es que requerem de maior aten??o para a aplica??o da ACV para avaliar os processos de LIs, tais como: i) acesso a um invent?rio completo e adequado do ciclo de vida e ii) desenvolvimento e inclus?o de fatores de caracteriza??o de impactos de LIs. Al?m disso, algumas boas pr?ticas em ACV de LI foram identificadas e s?o recomendadas. Posteriormente, este trabalho teve como foco o emprego do c?tion 3-butil-1-vinilimidaz?lio ([BVim]+), com o ?nion n?o-coordenado e hidrof?bico bis(trifluorometanosulfonil)imidato ([NTf2]-) como contra-?on. Os resultados indicam que o processo de impress?o n?o exacerba significativamente os impactos ambientais. O mon?mero polimeriz?vel de LI tem impacto compar?vel ao an?logo, n?o-polimeriz?vel, 3-butil-1-metilimidaz?lio [NTf2]-, portanto, permitindo potencialmente o uso mais eficiente das propriedades dos LI por imobiliza??o em fases s?lidas. Tamb?m, ? demonstrado que a troca do ?nion [NTf2]- pelo ?nion dicianamida [N(CN2)]-, para produ??o de PILs, diminui significativamente os impactos em todas as categorias avaliadas. Este trabalho representa a primeira fase em dire??o ? gera??o quantitativa de dados de ACV, para o processo de impress?o 3D de PILs, que ser? um grande suporte para a tomada de decis?es durante o projeto de desenvolvimento de processos de impress?o 3D de PILs em escala de laborat?rio. This work presents a ?cradle-to-gate? Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of 3Dprinting polymerisable ionic liquids (PILs) using stereolithography apparathus. Firstly, in order to provide an up-to-date overview on the currently state-of-the-art involving the life cycle assessment (LCA) studies on ionic liquids (ILs) a review on the subject was employed. This review recommends a list of issues that need further precision for application of LCA to evaluate ILs processes, such as: i) access to comprehensive and adequate life cycle inventory and ii) development and inclusion of characterization factors for IL impacts. Also, some good practices in LCA of IL were identified and are recommended. Later, this work focused on the employment of the 3-butyl-1-vinylimidazolium [BVim] cation, with the non-coordinating and hydrophobic bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide [NTf2]- anion as the counter anion. The results indicate that the printing process does not significantly exacerbate the environmental impacts. The polymerisable monomer IL has similar impact compared to the analogous non-polymerisable 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium [NTf2]- IL, thus potentially allowing for the more efficient use of the IL properties by immobilization in solid phases. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that switching the anion from [NTf2]- to dicyanamide [N(CN2)]- significantly decreases the impacts in all categories evaluated for PIL production. This work represents the first phase toward quantitative LCA data generation for the process of 3D-printing IL, which will be great support for decision making during design of PIL 3D-printing processes at a laboratory scale. In surface reconstruction from slice samples (typical in medical imaging, coordinate measurement machines, stereolithography, etc.) the available methods attack the geometrical and topological aspects or a combinationof these -- Topological methods classify the events occurred in the 2-manifold between two consecutive slices -- Geometrical methods synthesize the surface based on local proximity of contours in consecutive slices -- Many of these methods work with modifications of Voronoi - Delaunay (VD) techniques, applied on slices i and i+1 -- Superimposed 2D Voronoi Diagrams VDi and VDi+1 (used in surface reconstruction) present topological problems if, for example, a site of VDi lies on an site or an edge of VDi+1 -- The usual treatment of this problem in literature is to apply a geometrical disturbance to either VDi or VDi+1, thus eliminating the degeneracy -- Recent works seek to quantify the amount of the disturbance applied in relation to the probability distribution of the event “change in the topology of VD” -- In this article, in contrast, virtual disturbances are proposed and implemented, which allow for the application of subsequent steps of the algorithm at hand (in this case, tetrahedra construction for surface reconstruction) regardless of to the geometrical exception -- Tetrahedra (or any other downstream constructs) can then be instantiated as per non-degenerate conditions -- Although this method is applied for surface reconstruction, it gives insight as to how to circumvent degeneracies in procedures based on VD methods

La impresión 3D es un proceso que permite obtener piezas reales desde un modelo numérico. Dadas las posibilidades que ofrece, este ámbito tiene un desarrollo muy rápido. Si el hilado es la técnica la más conocida, existen cuatro otras tecnologías. Este proyecto trata de uno de estos, la impresión 3D fotoquímicas. El objetivo del proyecto es el diseño de una impresora 3D por estereolitografía con un proyector DLP. Con esta técnica, las piezas se fabrican por la adición de sucesivas capas. Cada capa se realiza gracias a la polimerización de una resina fotosensible expuesta a una imagen proyectada por el sistema de proyección DLP. Después, un sistema de desplazamiento mueve el soporte para realizar la capa siguiente. Los requerimientos que se le piden al diseño son obtener una impresora 3D compacta y de bajo coste con el objetivo final de comercializarla. Por eso, se dividen las tareas a realizar en cinco partes. La primera consiste en el estudio de las impresoras 3D del mercado y varios elementos que se pueden utilizar en este proyecto. En esta parte, se definen los elementos a tener en cuenta durante el diseño así como lo que se puede mejorar o cambiar. Después, se realiza el análisis de las relaciones entre las características de la pieza a fabricar, los elementos del sistema y el coste y las dimensiones de la impresora. Eso permite elegir el diseño de la impresora. Luego, según esta idea, se estudian las partes mecánicas del sistema: el sistema óptico, el sistema de desplazamiento y la cuba. Así se puede dimensionar cada elemento de la impresora. La cuarta parte es la realización del diseño del conjunto con el software SolidEdge. En las dos ultimás partes se buscan a utilizar piezas comerciales para reducir el precio de la máquina. En el último grupo de tareas, se realiza ensayos del sistema óptico para validar la utilización de cada pieza elegida.

Um dispositivo de resina epóxica foi criado e confeccionado pelo método de estereolitografia para possibilitar a confecção de espécimes de resina composta em forma de um incisivo central superior que apresentavam as camadas de esmalte palatal, dentina e variação de três espessuras de esmalte vestibular: 0,4mm; 0,8mm e 1,2mm. Os materiais testados foram os compósitos, Filtek Z350 XT(3M ESPE), Miris 2(Coltène) e Ena HRi (Micerium). Foram feitas três leituras de cor para cada espécime utilizando o espectrofotômetro Vita Easy Shade (Vita Zahnfabrik). Pela análise estatística foram calculadas as médias das leituras e os parâmetros de translucidez e luminosidade. Os resultados mostram diferenças significativas entre os compósitos e entre as espessuras, sendo os maiores valores de luminosidade e menores graus de translucidez para o compósito Ena HRi e maiores valores de translucidez para o compósito Miris 2. Pode se concluir que os parâmetros de cor dependem do compósito utilizado e ainda da espessura utilizada. Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the translucency parameter and lightness using enamel composite resin with different thicknesses, based or not on the Vita Classical shade guide. An epoxic resin device was developed and built by stereolithography process to enable the manufacture of specimens with the shape of an upper central incisor using composite resin. The specimens had layers of palatal enamel, dentin, and three diferente thicknesses of buccal enamel: 0.4mm, 0.8mm and 1.2mm. The composites tested were Filtek Supreme Ultra (3M ESPE), Miris 2 (Coltène) and Ena HRi (Micerium). The spectrophotometer Vita Easy Shade Vita Zahnfabrik) was used to perform three color measurements of each specimen. Measurement means were calculated and through statistical analysis translucency parameter and lightness were also calculated. The results showed significant differences between the composites used and their thicknesses. The values of lightness were higher for lightness and the translucency was higher for the composite Miris 2. It can be concluded that the color parameters evaluated depend on the composite used and their thickness.

Many techniques have been proposed for surgical training as a learning process for young surgeons or for the simulation of complex procedures. Stereolithograpfy, a rapid prototyping technique, has been presented recently as an option for these purposes. We describe the case of a 12 years old boy, diagnosed with Ewing´s sarcoma in the cervical spine. After a surgical simulation accomplished in the prototype, built by stereolithography, the patient was submitted to a C4 corpectomy and to a C4 and C3 laminectomy with anterior and posterior fixation, a non intercurrence procedure. This technique is an innovative and complementary tool in diagnosis and therapy. As a result, it is easier for the surgeon to understand the complexity of the case and plan the approach before any surgical procedure. Lesões tumorais da coluna podem representar um grande desafio para equipe cirúrgica. A estereolitografia é uma técnica de construção de peças anatômicas a partir de desenhos gráficos ou exames radiológicos. Apresentamos um paciente de 12 anos, com quadro de cervicobraquialgia à direita com diagnóstico de sarcoma de Ewing. Ao exame neurológico, o paciente apresentava-se com paresia em MSD grau IV e leve hipoestesia em dermátomos de C6 à T1 à direita. RM evidenciou edema intra e extra-ósseo com compressão medular e instabilidade cervical. Realizada simulação cirúrgica no protótipo construído por estereolitografia. Foi submetido a corpectomia de C4 e a laminectomia C4 e C3, com fixação anterior e posterior, procedimento sem intercorrências. A estereolitografia é ferramenta inovadora no auxílio diagnóstico e terapêutico. Seu uso permite ao cirurgião entender fisicamente o sítio da lesão, estudar a via de acesso e perceber a real complexidade do caso antes do procedimento cirúrgico.

A theoretical and experimental study of thermosensitive resins used in thermal stereolithography is presented. The process of local curing through the application of infrared radiation, which has proved to be useful in a new technique for the making of prototypes by means of selective heating with CO2 laser (10.6μm), is studied. The ideal composition of the thermosensitive resins has proved to be 10 parts epoxy, 1.4 part diethylene triamine (the curing agent) and 0.7 part silica powder. A physical theoretical model is applied for control of the parameters which influence the confinement of the curing in the irradiated bulk. A mathematical model is applied too; it was developed through the resolution of the heat conduction equation dependent on time in cylindrical co-ordinates, which enables to determine the behaviour of curing in terms of irradiation conditions.Se presenta un estudio teórico y experimental, sobre resinas termosensibles usadas en estereolitografía térmica. Se estudia el proceso de cura local mediante la aplicación de radiación infrarroja producida por el láser de CO2 (10.6 μm), el cual mostró ser útil en técnicas nuevas, para la fabricación de prototipos por medio de calentamiento selectivo. La composición ideal para cura local de las resinas termosensibles, está en la proporción de 10.0 partes de epoxi, 1.4 partes de dietilentriamina y 0.7 partes de sílice. Para controlar los parámetros que influyen en el confinamiento de la cura a través de la irradiación, se utiliza un modelo teórico-físico. Se utiliza un modelo matemático en coordenadas cilíndricas basado en la ecuación de conducción de calor dependiente del tiempo, que permite determinar el comportamiento de cura en función de las condiciones de irradiación.

El enoftalmos postraumático se define como la discrepancia entre el volumen orbitario y su contenido; este balance puede verse alterado por múltiples factores, como el secuestro tardío del contenido orbitario por atrapamiento en el sitio de la fractura, herniación del contenido orbitario, necrosis del tejido adiposo orbitario, contracción cicatricial del tejido retrobulbar, pérdida del sistema de suspensión ligamentario del globo ocular y aumento de volumen de la cavidad orbitaria. El presente estudio aborda el problema del enoftalmos postraumático como una deformidad difícil de corregir. Están descritos abordajes cutáneos extensos como el coronal, el subciliar o el intraoral; la técnica descrita por Henry Kawamoto en 1998 describe un procedimiento de menor invasión mediante abordajes de mínima exposición que permiten la refracturación y el alineamiento del cuerpo zigomático, brindando así grandes ventajas sobre las técnicas convencionales. Presentamos el método aplicado en el servicio de Cirugía Reconstructiva del Centro Médico del Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de México y Municipios (ISSEMyM) para el manejo de pacientes con enoftalmos como secuela de traumatismos del complejo cigomático-malar; para ello empleamos un método por asistencia con modelos estereolitográficos para la planificación quirúrgica del diseño de osteotomías para corregir la deformidad facial y para determinar las dimensiones del defecto a reparar, así como el tipo y cantidad de materiales aloplásticos o autólogos a emplear. Compartimos la experiencia de los casos tratados en nuestro Servicio entre 2006 y 2010.

Resumen Se realizó la reconstrucción aloplástica de un gran defecto de cráneo de etiología traumática, en una paciente de sexo femenino de 24 años de edad. Debido a la particular complejidad del caso, se utilizó una técnica para la construcción de la prótesis que involucró el procesamiento imagenológico 3D, asistido por ordenador y la posterior confección de un prototipo rápido. Sobre este prototipo se realizó la planifi cación y reconstrucción protésica, obteniendo un implante craneano interno de gran volumen, con absoluta exactitud. La inter-relación de distintas especialidades del área de la salud, fue imprescindible para la solución de este caso, posicionando a la disciplina de la Prótesis Buco Maxilo Facial denro de la más alta medicina rehabilitadora integral. El procedimiento empleado resultó adecuado, para reconstruir defectos internos complejos de restitución ósea, en comparación a los métodos empleados hasta el momento. Abstract Alloplastic reconstruction was performed of a large skull defect of traumatic etiology in a female patient 24 years of age. Due to the particular complexity of the case a technique for denture construction had to be used, involving 3D imaging processing, computer aided and the subsequent production of a rapid prototype. This enabled the planning and prosthetic reconstruction on a rapid prototype, obtaining a large internal cranial implant volume, with absolute accuracy. The inter-relationship of different specialties in the area of health was essential to resolving this case, positioning the discipline of Maxillofacial Prosthesis within the highest integral medicine. This procedure was the adequate to reconstruct complex internal defects of bone restitution, compared to the methods used so far

Post-traumatic enophthalmos is defined as the discrepancy between the orbital volume and its content; this balance can be altered by many factors, such as the entrapment or herniation of the orbital content at the fracture site, orbital adipose tissue necrosis, scar contraction of the retrobulbar tissue, loss of the eyeball suspension system and the increase in orbital volume. This paper deals with the management of post-traumatic enophthalmos as a difficult deformity to treat. Extensive cutaneous approaches have been described, as the coronal, intraoral and subciliar. In 1998 Henry Kawamoto described approaches less invasive allowing minimal exposure, based on the fracturing and re-alignment of the zygomatic body, thus providing great benefits. This method is applied at the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of the Instituto de Seguridad Social del Estado de Mexico y Municipios (ISSEMyM) in the management of enophthalmos as a post-traumatic sequelae, with stereolithographic assistance for surgical planning and re-fracturing design of the facial deformity and to determine the size of the defects to repair with autologous or alloplastic materials. We is share our experience with cases treated by our department between 2006 and 2010.

Mestrado em Engenharia Mecânica A estereolitografia é uma das mais importantes tecnologias de fabricação aditiva, sendo objecto de significativo interesse por parte da comunidade internacional. Este trabalho visa o estudo da influência sobre as propriedades termo-mecânicas dos diversos parâmetros de fabricação (distancia de varrimento, profundidade de cura, existência ou não de pós-cura e posição de construção) e da humidade. Para tal foram produzidos vários provetes utilizando um sistema de estereolitografia comercial e utilizado um sistema de análise mecânica dinâmica para caracterização dos provetes. Os resultados obtidos, permitem a definição de algumas condições operatórias optimizadas destinadas a produção de modelos estereolitográficos de boas propriedades mecânicas. ABSTRACT: Stereolithography is one of the most relevant additive technologies commercially available, being intensively studied by the international research community. This research study aims at developing a proper knowledge on the influence of the fabrication parameters (hatch spacing, penetration depth, post-cure operations) and moisture exposure on the thermo-mechanical properties of stereolithographic parts. Therefore, several testing specimens were produced using a commercial available stereolithographic system and a Dynamical Analyse System was used to characterize them. The obtained results enable us to define some optimized fabrication conditions in order to produce parts with good mechanical properties.

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência e Engenharia de Materiais Uma parte da indústria de fabricação de componentes plásticos vem sofrendo uma grande mudança devido às necessidades dos novos produtos. Um reflexo que em parte é evidenciado desde a última década com a miniaturização de simples dispositivos, bem como, de sistemas integrados. As técnicas de prototipagem e fabricação rápida, como a estereolitografia (SL) e a sinterização seletiva a laser (SLS) auxiliam o desenvolvimento de novos produtos em um curto prazo de tempo com redução de custos. A estereolitografia pode ser um instrumento no desenvolvimento de componentes miniaturizados, seja através da fabricação direta do componente ou através da fabricação indireta pelo processo de moldagem por injeção de termoplásticos. A metodologia de avaliação da técnica de SL para fabricação direta e indireta de micro-peças consistiu em 3 fases. A primeira fase esteve relacionada com a seleção das geometrias a serem empregadas no estudo. Na segunda fase o desenvolvimento das melhores condições de tempo e temperatura a serem utilizados no tratamento de pós-cura das resinas. Com a definição das geometrias e parâmetros de pós-cura das resinas, a última fase do trabalho foi à fabricação direta e indireta. A exatidão e precisão na fabricação direta e indireta apresentaram valores maiores do que 97%, com valores mais exatos e precisos para a geometria quadrática nos aspectos analisados. The plastic components industries are undergoing a great shift due to requirements of the new products. Examples of this are telecommunications, medical devices and electronics products that are currently following to miniaturization scale. As a consequence new micro fabrication processes are being developed in the world. SL is one of the most common RP used for product development purposes. On the other hand, SL molds have been characterized for the low volume of production caused by the premature mould failure in real conditions of process. The methodology used for evaluation of SL technology in the direct and indirect manufacturing was made on 3 steps. The first step geometries and dimensions are selected. After selection, the development of pos-cure treatment parameters was defined. With definitions of geometries and resin pos-cure parameters the evaluation was directioned for manufacture direct an indirect. The accuracy and precision in the direct manufacturing and the indirect manufacturing showed values up to 97%, being the square shape accuracy and precision higher than circular shape.

Mestrado em Engenharia Mecânica A estereolitografia é uma tecnologia aditiva de prototipagem rápida de elevada importância e com grande implantação ao nível de investigação e de aplicações indústriais. O processo baseia-se na cura selectiva de sistemas poliméricos na presença de uma fonte de irradiação. Depende, deste modo, de diversos factores que interessa conhecer e optimizar para que se obtenham modelos físicos com boas propriedades mecânicas num intervalo de tempo reduzido. A modelação do processo de cura revela-se uma ferramenta importante porque permite a optimização dos parâmetros iniciais do processo, sem que para tal seja necessário recorrer a extensos trabalhos experimentais. O desenvolvimento de um modelo de simulação numérico do processo de cura em aplicações estereolitográficas constitui o tema central desta dissertação. O código baseia-se no modelo fenomenológico, de simples implementação mas grande versatilidade, na medida em que permite estudar diferentes sistemas poliméricos. O código de simulação permite a simulação dos diferentes processos de iniciação em estereolitografia. Os resultados obtidos seguem o comportamento obtido experimentalmente por vários investigadores sobre cura de resinas estereolitográficas, sendo capaz de quantificar de forma correcta os parâmetros de processamento mais importantes (temperatura, intensidade de radiação) e o efeito da composição química dos sistemas poliméricos. ABSTRACT: Stereolithography is an aditive technology of great importance with great implantation at the level of research and development, and industrial applications. The process is based on the selective cure of polymeric systems in the presence of an irradiation source. The cure process depends on several factors that are important to understand and optimise in order to obtain physical models with good mechanical properties in a reduced fabrication time. The simulation of the cure process is particularly important as it allows the optimisation of the initial processing parameters, without the need of carrying out an extensive experimental work. This research work proposes a computational tool to simulate stereolithographyc processes. This computational tool enables the simulation of both photo-initated and thermalinitiated curing reactions and can be used to study different types of polymeric systems (radicalar, cationic and hybrid systems). The numerical code is based on a phenomenologic model, of simple implementation but great versatility. The computational results follow the behavior experimentally observed, showing that this tool is able to properly describe the most important curing parameters such as temperature, light intensity and the effect of the chemical composition of the polymeric systems.

Fundamento: En los comienzos de los tratamientos con implantes dentales, la planificación de los casos se basaba en la interpretación de imágenes radiográficas bidimensionales. Hoy en día, podemos conseguir una planificación minuciosa mediante el procesado informático de la información que nos ofrece la tomografía computada (TC) y llevarla al acto quirúrgico mediante guías quirúrgicas confeccionadas mediante estereolitografía; ello nos habilitará para realizar una cirugía mínimamente invasiva así como para colocar prótesis provisionales en el mismo acto quirúrgico. Material y método: Realizamos una revisión bibliográfica de los estudios que avalan el uso de las distintas pruebas diagnósticas radiográficas, así como del uso de sistemas informáticos para la planificación en los tratamientos con implantes. Se presenta un caso clínico donde se desarrollan los distintos pasos a seguir para un buen diagnóstico, planificación, cirugía mínimamente invasiva y rehabilitación inmediata. Resultados: La información obtenida en la planificación, fue llevada al acto quirúrgico, obteniendo los resultados estéticos deseados. Conclusiones: Con una exhaustiva planificación y el uso de guías quirúrgicas estereolitográficas se ve simplificada la cirugía de implantes; asimismo, se puede diseñar la prótesis provisional previa a la intervención y ser colocada en el mismo acto quirúrgico. Basis: In the early years of treatment with dental implants, treatment planning was based on the interpretation of two-dimensional radiographic images. Today we can carry out a more precise preparation with the computerized information obtained from CT scans. The planning can be directly taken to the surgical phase thanks to the surgical guide generated by stereolithography; this gives the surgeon the possibility to perform less invasive surgeries, as well as to place a provisional prosthesis during the same intervention. Material and Method: We reviewed the literature published in support of the use of different radiographic diagnostic tools and the use of IT systems in the preparation for treatments involving dental implants. Also, a clinical case is presented which shows the various steps to follow in order to achieve a good diagnosis and preparation, a less invasive surgical intervention and an immediate rehabilitation. Results: The information gained from the treatment planning was used in surgery, providing the desired aesthetic results. Conclusions: With an exhaustive preparation and the use of stereolithographic surgical guides, implant surgery is simplified. The provisional prosthesis can be designed prior to the surgical intervention and placed during surgery.
