The appearance of morphea after vaccination has been reported to date as single and deep lesions that appear exactly at the site of the skin puncture. It was therefore postulated that the origin could be the trauma related to the injection. The aim of this article is to review the various hypotheses offered in the published literature about generalized morphea following vaccination. We present two cases of generalized morphea after COVID-19 vaccination and review the published literature on immune-related cutaneous reactions. As previously reported, antigenic cross-reactivity between vaccine spike proteins and human tissues could cause certain immune-mediated diseases, including generalized morphea. Herein we report two cases of generalized morphea probably induced by the COVID-19 vaccine, given the temporal relationship with its administration. In summary, environmental factors such as vaccination against SARS-COV-2 could induce an immune system dysregulation, which would have an important role in the pathogenesis of morphea. We present two cases of generalized morphea probably induced by the COVID-19 vaccine, given the time elapsed between vaccination and the onset of the skin lesions.

PURPOSE: Diagnosis of granuloma annulare (GA) is based on the clinical and histopathological findings. However, only sporadic case reports of subcutaneous GA sonography have been published to date. The objective of this study was to evaluate the ultrasonographic patterns of the different clinical variants of GA: localized, generalized, subcutaneous, and perforating. METHODS: In this retrospective observational study, we analyzed and correlated the clinical, histopathological, and sonographic features of 15 patients diagnosed with GA. RESULTS: We included 8 women and 7 men with a mean age of 48.4 years (8–77 years). We found three different sonographic patterns depending on the clinical variant of GA: poorly defined hypoechoic band including the dermis (dermal pattern), irregularly shaped hypoechoic hypodermal lumps (hypodermal pattern), and ill-defined hypoechoic dermal and subcutaneous lesions (mixed pattern). Five cases showed increased blood flow signal on Doppler interrogation. CONCLUSION: Although our findings are broadly consistent with the previous reports of subcutaneous GA, the sonographic features in localized, generalized, and perforating GA have not been previously reported.

Introduction Parvovirus B19 (PVB19) infection has a high incidence and worldwide distribution. It has a broad clinical spectrum, with skin, joint and haematological manifestations being the most common. The objective of this study was to determine the epidemiology and clinical–analytical manifestations of acute PVB19 infection. Patients and methods A retrospective study of patients with a positive IgM serology for PVB19 (10 years). Forty-six patients were included and their demographic, clinical and analytical characteristics were analyzed. Results Primary infection was most prevalent in women (ratio 2.2:1) aged 41 (mean age). Joint involvement was the most common manifestation (65%). Skin abnormalities were observed in more than half of patients (24 cases): rash (28%), megalerythema (9%), “gloves and socks” involvement (6.5%), periflexural rash (4%) and oedema (4%). Anaemia was the main haematological alteration (35%). The symptoms were self-limiting and resolved in 1–2 weeks in most patients. Conclusions Although there is a variable clinical spectrum, polyarthralgias and generalized maculopapular rash with fever and anaemia are the typical and most frequent manifestations of primary infection by PVB19 and are usually self-limiting.

This qualitative study describes a visual clue for the diagnosis of psoriasis, in which the sum of the fragmentation and separation of the laminar parakeratotic stratum corneum and hyperplasia with regular elongation of the rete ridges resembles the letter ñ on histopathologic biopsy specimens.

Darier’s disease (DD) is an infrequent autosomal dominant skin disorder caused by a mutation of the ATP2A2 gene on chromosome 12 [1]. Mutations in this gene result in abnorma-lities in keratinocyte cell-cell adhesion producing an alterati-on of the keratinization of the skin, which clinically presents with dyskeratotic papules mostly affecting seborrheic and in-tertriginous areas. Palmoplantar and nail involvement is often present [1–3]. As a wide range of treatments have been propo-sed for this skin disorder with different results, the manage-ment of this disease is still a challenge for the dermatologist.

Cenicienta es un clásico con gran permeabilidad a influencias intertextuales e intermediales. Apuntaremos cuestiones sobre el versionado de obras en LIJ y sobre intermedialidad y revisaremos estudios en torno a la evolución de Cenicienta, para analizar, atendiendo a relaciones texto-imagen, elementos narratológicos y descripciones de personajes femeninos en 13 versiones de Cenicienta en la LIJ en euskera del siglo XXI. Daremos cuenta de un diálogo entre versiones que responde en gran medida a la línea marcada por Disney, cuya influencia, reflejada tanto a nivel textual como a nivel de ilustración o imagen, afecta no solo a la historia, sino también a la caracterización de los personajes. Cinderella is a classic work with great permeability to intertextual and intermedial influences. After pointing out some ideas on versioning in childrens’ literature and on intermediality, and after reviewing some studies on the evolution of Cinderella, this paper analyzes, attending to the text-image relationship, narratological elements and descriptions of female characters in 13 versions of Cinderella for children in Basque published in the XXI century. The dialogue between versions presented here responds to a great extent to the line marked by Disney: its influence, reflected both at textual level and at illustration or image level, affects not only the story, but also the characterization of the characters. Hailey–Hailey disease (HHD) is a rare genodermatosis caused by a mutation in the ATP2C1 gene, which codes for a calcium channel. This ionic alteration leads to a defective keratinocyte adhesion. Hailey–Hailey disease is characterized by recurrent flare-ups of vesicles and flaccid blisters in folds that have an impact on patients’ quality of life. The recurrent and refractory nature of this condition makes its treatment a challenge. Isolated cases have been reported describing controversial results after treatment with apremilast. Here we present a case of refractory HHD who experienced an excellent response after treatment with apremilast and botulinum toxin-A (BoNT) infiltrations.

[Resumen] La literatura y el cine en lengua vasca se han reapropiado en diversas ocasiones de la obra del Lazarillo, dando así continuación al texto clásico en distintas épocas. En la actualidad, contamos con una versión bilingüe publicada en 1929 en la que el traductor “Orixe” adapta y reescribe tanto en castellano como en euskera pasajes de la obra, también con una reedición crítica de la misma publicada por A. Zelaieta en 1984, con un cómic de Cornejo y Fuente traducido por J. A. Berriotxoa (1990) y, finalmente, con una adaptación cinematográfica del 2012 dirigida por J. Berasategi. En el presente trabajo comentamos el recorrido de esas reapropiaciones, contextualizando su publicación para entender así la razón de ser de las distintas adaptaciones, de sus pasajes censurados, de la inserción de ingredientes gráficos concretos y demás elementos que las caracterizan y hacer visible el diálogo intertextual creado entre las versiones del Lazarillo. [Abstract] Basque literature and cinema have made use of and re-appropriated the Spanish classic text Lazarillo on several occasions and, thus, have participated in its continuation in different cultural and historical contexts. At present, the Basque cultural field counts with a Spanish-Basque bilingual version of the Lazarillo published in 1929 in which "Orixe", the translator, adapts and rewrites some passages of the work both in Spanish and Basque. We also count with a critical reedition of the aforementioned version published by A. Zelaieta in 1984, as well as with a comic created by Cornejo y Fuente and translated into Basque by J. A. Berriotxoa (1990). Finally, we count with a cinematographic adaptation of 2012 by J. Berasategi. In this short essay we comment on all those versions of the Lazarillo, contextualizing their publication in order to understand why their authors created those versions and the reasons for the adaptations, censored passages, specific graphic ingredients or other elements that characterize the versions and make visible the intertextual dialogue created among the versions of the Lazarillo. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of death in the developed countries. According to the las report of the European Society of Cardiology, CVD remain the most common cause of death within Europe, accounting for 2.2 million deaths in females and 1.9 million deaths in males. These equate to 47% and 39% of all deaths in females and males, respectively, and almost half of them are caused by Myocardial Infarction (MI). In the last 20 years, in order to overcome the limitations of the conventional treatments, cell therapy, has emerged as a promising therapeutic option for the treatment of MI. In this thesis we have employed Adipose Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (ADSC) seeded in a collagen scaffold fabricated under GMP-conditions, to treat the infarcted heart in preclinical MI animal models. First, we assessed the patch safety in rodent models, proving a safe profile of the system, established by tumorigenicity, toxicity and biodistribution studies. Secondly, the collagen scaffold was cellularized with allogeneic ADSC and its immunological effect was analysed both in vitro and in vivo, showing no alloreactive response by the immune cells towards the allogeneic patch. Moreover in vitro, in a human context, the cellularized patch elicited a potent immunomodulatory effect towards lymphocytes by inhibiting their proliferation, phenotypical activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Finally, the functionalization of the collagen membrane with the angiogenic factor SDF-1 was achieved, by the creation of a bilayer collagen scaffold, which confirmed to be biocompatible in vivo and exerted a therapeutic effect when tested in a rat MI model in the shape of cardiac function recovery.

The use of allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (alloADSCs) represents an attractive approach for treating myocardial infarction (MI). Furthermore, adding a natural support improves alloADSCs engraftment and survival in heart tissues, leading to a greater therapeutic effect. We aimed to examine the safety and immunological reaction induced by epicardial implantation of a clinical-grade collagen scaffold (CS) seeded with alloADSCs for its future application in humans. Thus, cellularized scaffolds were myocardially or subcutaneously implanted in immunosuppressed rodent models. The toxicological parameters were not significantly altered, and tumor formation was not found over the short or long term. Furthermore, biodistribution analyses in the infarcted immunocompetent rats displayed cell engraftment in the myocardium but no migration to other organs. The immunogenicity of alloADSC-CS was also evaluated in a preclinical porcine model of chronic MI, no significant humoral or cellular alloreactive responses were found. Moreover, CS cellularized with human ADSCs cocultured with human allogeneic immune cells produced no alloreactive response. Interestingly, alloADSC-CS significantly inhibited lymphocyte responses, confirming its immunomodulatory action. Thus, alloADSC-CS is likely safe and does not elicit any alloreactive immunological response in the host. Moreover, it exerts an immunomodulatory action, which supports its translation to a clinical setting.
