The authors conducted an assessment of post-traumatic stress disorder screening in the Chilean population following the February 2010 earthquake, based on the Post Earthquake Survey with a multistage sample of 24,982 individuals over 18 years of age, applying the Davidson Trauma Scale. Multivariate analysis was performed with significance set at p<0.05. Prevalence of positive screening for post-traumatic stress disorder was 11% for the country as a whole, but reached 30% at lower-level disaggregation. The logistic regression model for post-traumatic stress disorder identified the following risk factors: belonging to a low-income family, having suffered damage to the household, a history of health problems in the previous month, and female gender (p<0.05). Family coping with the earthquake proved to be a protective factor as compared to other social or neighborhood groups, and more years of schooling were also protective (p<0.05). Positive screening for posttraumatic stress disorders revealed clear social inequalities.

Data were analyzed from the National Survey on Substance Use (ENPreCoSP-2.008) in 6,122 cases to estimate the prevalence of psychoactive substance use and assess the association between unmet basic needs (UBN) and family income and the consumption of psychoactive substances by individuals 18-34 years of age in 10 provinces in Northern Argentina. The study conducted descriptive statistical analysis and logistic regression. Prevalence of lifetime drug use and use in the previous year and previous month were higher for legal versus illegal substances. Consumption was also higher in males. Poverty indicators were significantly associated with the consumption of legal substances. The findings show differences in consumption of psychoactive substances related to gender and poverty.

With the purpose of assessing the current program and to adequate its activities to the students' needs, we perform periodical evaluations based on the opinions of the participants involved. During 2002, a new academic plan was implemented for the optional Module "Introduction to Family Medicine", destined to generate professional abilities according to the postulates of the biopsychosocial paradigm. The objective of this study is to evaluate de development of this new academic proposal. We analyzed 132 questionnaires (83% of the population) filled by students that attended the Module during 2002 and 2003. The evaluation consisted on structured questions (answers in numeric scale) and open questions. With the closed questions, we obtained a majority of favorable opinion about the progress of the activities, the modality of work and performance of the educational team. Open questions were classified according to the coincidence and diversity of the opinions. We concluded that this evaluation is appropriate to optimize the progress of the course. From the suggestions provided by the students, we concluded that it would be useful to extend eyewitness activities and to start earlier the rotations at the Department of Family Medicine. After these modifications are made, it would be helpful to perform a new evaluation.

The Rheumatic Diseases are a problems of public health than greater attention they require of the sanitary authorities of many countries. The absence in Córdoba Argentina, of investigations to know the magnitude of this problem, they motivated this work. The objective of this work it was to know the frequency with which these illnesses they are perceived for the population in Córdoba, Argentina. Was made a probabilistic sampling, with a size of sample of 429 individuals, with a level of 95% confidence. It is concluded that the rheumatic affections constitute a suffering perceived for more than the half of the population over 20 years, with a predominance in the women. The osteoarthrosis is a most common condition the defined rheumatic disease, whereas in the group of the inespecifics rheumatic disorders the pain of neck was that of greater prevalence.
