Jatkuva oppiminen työuran aikana tai työssä edellyttää usein yksilön omaa aktiivisuutta. Oppimiseen sitoutuminen tai kiinnittyminen (engagement) on moniulotteinen ilmiö, johon liittyvät kognitiivinen (motivaatio), emotionaalinen (mm. tunteet ja asenteet), toiminnallinen (osallistuminen ja oppimisen tavat) sekä toimijuutta ilmentävä (proaktiivinen toiminta oppimisen edistämiseksi) sitoutuminen. Tutkimuksemme tavoitteena on jäsentää jatkuvaan oppimiseen sitoutumista työssä sekä kuvata sitä edistäviä tekijöitä. Tutkimuksen aineistona ovat sosiaali- ja palvelualojen työntekijöiden yksilöhaastattelut (N=31). Aineiston teoriaohjaava analyysi perustuu sitoutumisen ulottuvuuksiin, joiden tarkastelua syvennämme aineistolähtöisen laadullisen sisällönanalyysin avulla. Tulokset osoittavat, että yksilön sitoutuminen jatkuvaan oppimiseen työssä rakentuu yksilön ja ympäristön vuorovaikutuksessa. Työpaikoilla onkin tärkeää tukea niin yksilön edellytyksiä sitoutua jatkuvaan oppimiseen (elämäntilanne ja hyvinvointi huomioiden) kuin myös edistää organisaation ja yhteisön kykyä tukea yksilöitä ja koko yhteisöä. Tulosten mukaan keskeiset tavat jatkuvan oppimisen edistämiseen työssä liittyvät oppimiseen motivointiin, positiivisten tunteiden ja onnistumisten edistämiseen yksilö- ja yhteisötasolla, työn ja oppimisen johtamiseen ja organisointiin sekä yksilön oman itseohjautuvuuden ja aktiivisuuden vahvistamiseen.

This paper analyses valuations of ‘good’ interdisciplinary research that manifest in research planning workshops. We use ethnographic case data from an interdisciplinary research project on vertical farming to build insight on how differing registers in the valuing of ‘good’ interdisciplinary research are balanced. The vertical farming project we use as a case includes researchers from sub-disciplines of the life sciences, technology, data science, and human sciences in a Finnish university of applied science (UAS). We use thematic content analysis to identify four core registers of valuing the ‘goodness’ of research and tensions between the following registers: money, sustainability, scientific value, and academic identity. These registers largely conform to a statistical-economical regime of academic evaluation, while sustainability draws on RRI principles and the interdisciplinary emphasis on societal problem-solving. The registers are balanced mainly through temporal and conceptual compartmentalisations. Throughout three workshop encounters over the course of a six-month period, a perpetual negotiation of the different registers of valuing ‘good’ research was taking place, with attempts to avoid exclusionary choices between “money, time, or saving the world”.

The bioeconomy is being disrupted due to global trends of digitalization and automation. Knowledge-intensive businesses and sustainable solutions in carbon-smart food production have resulted in various consequences for the professionals working in and for bioeconomy. This paper examines bioeconomy teachers' perceptions of digitalization. It draws on research data from semi-structured focus-group interviews that were conducted with bioeconomy teachers in applied sciences higher education. The theoretical frame for the analysis was Mishra and Koehler's (2006) teacher knowledge framework for technology integration called Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). The results suggest that although applied sciences university teachers have strong Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK), they need more systematic approach and support to develop Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) in a disruptive field. Teaching in a rapidly transforming discipline, like bioeconomy, requires continuous co-development of all TPACK knowledge components by teachers.

In this paper we examine the potential of digital platforms for managing multidisciplinary collaboration and particularly the ideation processes of multidisciplinary research and development in the case of technology-supported vertical farming. The article draws on research data from semi-structured interviews and a collaborative workshop that was conducted with researchers representing biological, digital, and technological domains. The results of this research indicate that digital platforms may offer impactful, process-accelerating support during the kick-off phase of multidisciplinary technological innovations. A digital platform can support ideation and the prioritisation of ideas and can be especially fruitful when paired with face to face discussion and non-digital interaction.

Industries are currently experiencing several kinds of disruptive changes, including digital transformation and environmental and health emergencies. Despite intense discussion about disruptive changes in companies, the impact of such changes on workplace learning is still underexplored. In this study, we investigated the impact of disruptive changes on informal learning practices according to the perspectives of employers, employees and adult educators. Informal learning was operationalised along a continuum between organised informal learning (led by an instructor and intentional) and everyday informal learning (led by contextual factors, accidental, and unintentional). Fifty-five companies’ representatives (average age = 43.2 years; SD = 11) from three European countries (Finland, Switzerland, and Italy) and four industrial fields (bioeconomy, tourism, textile and building sectors) were interviewed. The interviews were further triangulated with questionnaires collected by employees from the same companies (N = 141; average age = 40.2 years, SD = 17.8). Questionnaire data were used to collect detailed information on individual informal workplace learning (IWL) strategies and digital technologies adopted in organised informal learning. The interview data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. A coding scheme was developed with five macro-categories organised into 23 sub-categories. Occurrence and co-occurrence analysis were performed to identify which individual and organisational factors and approaches support most learning, according to interviewees. Interviewees reported the possibility of interacting with colleagues and being autonomous as the main sources of everyday informal learning processes. Employees from the same companies reported model learning, vicarious feedback, and applying someone’s own ideas as the most frequent IWL strategies. Organised informal learning was mainly based on knowledge transfer, which reflects passive cognitive engagement by employees. Specifically, digital technologies in organised informal learning were poorly used for supporting reflection, constructive processes, and collaborative knowledge construction. The results suggest that participants believed that higher forms of cognitive engagement are possible only within face-to-face organised informal training or in everyday informal learning. Possible explanations of the results and practical implications are discussed.

We also reflect about the key elements in leading research and developing potential in educational innovations concerning teacher education and international partnerships.

Brazil-Finland Dossier, a bilingual (Portuguese and English) edition of Revista Ibero-Americana de Estudos em Educação (RIAEE), brings the Education for the 21st Century to discussion, focusing on five interconnected subjects of interest: Learning Communities, curriculum innovation, internationalization of education, Project-Based Learning/Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and educational technologies within a student-centered approach. Its aim is to present teacher-researchers’ studies and experiences, taking their teaching practices as data-generating that are relevant to investigations, associated with national and international research, especially between Brazil and Finland. Studies carried out in various regions of Brazil and/or Finland bring relevant contributions to support collaborative research programs and actions in Education for the 21st Century.

The goal of this article was to study teachers' professional development related to web-based learning in the context of the teacher community. The object was to learn in what kind of networks teachers share the knowledge of web-based learning and what are the factors in the community that support or challenge teachers professional development of web-based learning. The findings of the study revealed that there are teachers who are especially active, called the central actors in this study, in the teacher community who collaborate and share knowledge of web-based learning. These central actors share both technical and pedagogical knowledge of web-based learning in networks that include both internal and external relations in the community and involve people, artefacts and a variety of media. Furthermore, the central actors appear to bridge different fields of teaching expertise in their community.According to the central actors' experiences the important factors that support teachers' professional development of web-based learning in the community are; the possibility to learn from colleagues and from everyday working practices, an emotionally safe atmosphere, the leader's personal support and community-level commitment. Also, the flexibility in work planning, challenging pupils, shared lessons with colleagues, training events in an authentic work environment and colleagues' professionalism are considered meaningful for professional development. As challenges, the knowledge sharing of web-based learning in the community needs mutual interests, transactive memory, time and facilities, peer support, a safe atmosphere and meaningful pedagogical practices.On the basis of the findings of the study it is suggested that by intensive collaboration related to web-based learning it may be possible to break the boundaries of individual teachership and create such sociocultural activities which support collaborative professional development in the teacher community. Teachers' in-service training programs should be more sensitive to the culture of teacher communities and teachers' reciprocal relations. Further, teacher trainers should design teachers' in-service training of web-based learning in co-evolution with supporting networks which include the media and artefacts as well as people.
