BACKGROUND: Schools are important arenas for the promotion of critical health literacy (CHL) among adolescents. Key domains of CHL are information appraisal, understanding social determinants of health, and abilities to act on determinants of health. In this paper, we examine the psychometric properties of the Critical Health Literacy for Adolescents Questionnaire (CHLA‐Q). METHODS: A cross‐sectional survey study was performed at 5 schools in Norway. Respondents included 522 pupils aged 13‐15 years old. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to examine the structural validity. Internal reliability was assessed using ordinal Cronbach's alpha. RESULTS: The estimated model had acceptable closeness of fit. Five of 6 scales displayed adequate internal reliability. CONCLUSION: The results indicate acceptable fit of the CHLA‐Q framework and that 5 of the 6 scales are applicable to inform future research and interventions. More research is needed on measurement of the second domain of CHL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous research has shown that students respond positively from being physically active. Physical activity can help promote both learning and health, and due to this research, there has been focus on activating students during lessons. In order to introduce physical activity in school, it is important that teachers can plan and prepare how to implement physical active learning in their subjects. There are several students who struggle with the theoretical subjects, and in this thesis I`m focusing on the Norwegian subject. A lot of the students are inactive and does not learn very much through blackboard teaching in classrooms. To teach students using blackboard teaching has become the "normal" approach in school. It is important to provide time to learn Norwegian through physically active learning. Hence, I will focus on physically active learning with a focus on didactics.I have chosen to take a closer look at how teachers in the Norwegian school choose to apply physically active learning, including experiences and challenges with using phycially active learning. Further, it`s, it is important to look at what influences teachers' choices to implement physically active learning in the Norwegian subject. I also wanted to find out the informants' positive and negative experiences, and what is needed for physically active learning to be leveraged optimally as a part of theoretical subjects. in school. Four interviews with informants who teach Norwegian and who have knowledge of the topics in my project have been conducted. In order to understand the informants`experiences, perceptions and opinions (Thagaard, 2018), I chose to use qualitative research interviews in my thesis. The method made it easier to go in depth to find out whether physically active learning can affect learning outcomes among students in the Norwegian subject. The observation from the study was relatively spontaneous, but useful in relation to the result of the thesis. The study show that physically active learning can contribute to Norwegian teaching becoming more fun, and that students forget that they learn theory when they are active. It was also revealed that physically active learning can affect students who find blackboard teaching boring. They can also experience more motivation and mastery when the subject is learned through movement. Furthermore, the results show that physically active learning is most often used when the teaching that requires collaboration is planned. The informants came up with many examples of collaborative exercises and had viewed it as a positive way to teach Norwegian. Collaborative exercises through physically active learning in the Norwegian subject, led to the students having to talk, discuss and reflect together. The Norwegian teachers experienced that an active teaching of Norwegian led to an increased the desire to learn among the students, which could further promote learning in Norwegian. The challenge with physically active learning is that it requires more planning of teaching, which teachers find demanding and difficult to find time for. How well the teacher plans the lesson, and how the organization is done, will have an impact on the experience and the learning opportunities physically active learning can provide the students. Research on physically active learning in the Norwegian subject specifically, has not been researched much, but studies on physically active learning in schools have grown more and more recently.

The folk high school is a school that functions as a supplement to the general educational system we have in Norway (Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, 2015). Bildung and enlightenment comprise the core of the overarching framework that is to guide the syllabus folk high school teachers are obligated to to teach. The purpose of this study is to investigate folk high school teachers’ understanding and practice of bildung. Consequently, my research question is: How do folk high school teachers understand and practice bildung? The theoretical framework used in this study is based on Klafki’s perspective on bildung along with the Grundtvigian folk high school tradition. To conduct this study, I used a qualitative approach, interviewing six folk high school teachers from both Christian and non-christian schools. The informants to a large extent communicate both formal and material perspectives on bildung, meaning both subjective and objective views on bildung, in light of Klafki. They hold a positive view on the purpose paragraph, but the term ‘bildung’ is of limited use in their everyday lives. The folk high school teachers’ practice of bildung encompasses both formal and material processes. How intentional this practice is, however, is difficult to measure. Folk high schools in general have a number of structures intended to foster bildung, such as the dorm and the different chores the students engage in. Based on categorial bildung, the teachers report the use material bildung to initiate formale bildung-processes The main conclusion of this study is that the informants’ understanding and practice of bildung to a large extent agree with the Grundtvigian tradition and Klafki’s perspective on bildung. It is, however, difficult to state how intentional the practice of bildung is. In addition, folk high schools are structured in a number of ways with the intention of fostering bildung. Consequently, the fostering of such might take place without the teachers having reflected on such structures as contributing to bildung. This master thesis contributes to the research on bildung in the folk high schools, through interviews with folk high school teachers’ about this topic in light of Grundtvig and Klafki.
