Kaya mühendisliği uygulamalarında, bozunma derecesi, bozunmanın mekanizması ve bozunmaya etki eden faktörler, oldukça önemli bir çalışma konusudur. Bozunma, kaya kütlesinin üzerinde mekanik ve kimyasal bozunma yolu ile etkiyerek, fiziksel ve mineralojik değişimlere neden olmabilmekte, bu şekilde kaya kütlesinin fiziksel ve jeomekanik özelliklerinin değişmesine neden olmaktadır.Çalışma bölgesinde, antik uygarlıkların beşiklerinden biri olan, Akdeniz Bölgesi, Mersin ili'ndeki Korykos (Kızkalesi) ve Kanytella (Kanlıdivane) antik alanlarındaki yapı taşlarındaki bozunma mekanizması ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu kentler, Helenistik, Roma ve Bizans dönemlerinde önemli birer şehir özelliği taşımanın yanı sıra hem yerleşim hem de liman kenti olmaları açısından da farklı dönemlerde varlıklarını sürdürmeye devam etmişlerdir. Bu alanların, koruma altında olan alanlar olması bir ölçüde insanın neden olduğu hasarı azaltmakla birlikte, yüz yıllar boyunca değişen farklı Jeolojik ve atmosferik koşullar nedeniyle yapısal pek çok hasara maruz kalmışlardır. Çalışma bölgesinde yayılım gösteren en önemli birim kireçtaşı olup, bölgedeki antik şehir yapı taşları da büyük oranda kireçtaşından inşa edilmiştir. Ek olarak Farklı ortamlara bağlı gelişen bozunma ve bozunma derecelerindeki süreçler deniz seviyesinden (Korykos/Kızkalesi), karasal ortama doğru, 450 m yükseklikteki (Kanytella /Kanlıdivane), antik kent duvarlarına değişim göstermektedir. Deniz seviyesinde yer alan Korykos antik kenti yapı taşları, diğer atmosferik etkilerin dışında, deniz suyunun tuzlanma etkisine maruz kalmakta, daha yüksek kesimlerdeki Kanytella antik kenti ise sadece yağmur suyu, güneş, rüzgâr vs. gibi atmosferik etkiler ile bozuma sürecinde olan yapı taşlarına sahip bir antik kent niteliğindedir. Bu çalışma kapsamında, yapı taşlarındaki bozunma derecelerinin belirlenmesinde çeşitli yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Karbonatlı kayaçlardaki bozunma mekanizması ve bozunma dereceleri farklı yöntemlerin bir arada kullanılmasıyla belirlenmiş olup, örnek alınamayan koruma altındaki bölgeler olması nedeniyle arazide tahribatsız deney yöntemlerinden; Schmidt çekici deneyleri yapılmış ve Vp-Vs ultrasonik dalga hızları ölçülmüştür. Ayrıca arazide, yapı taşlarındaki bozunma derecelerinin gözlemsel sınıflaması yapılarak, her bir duvar için tanımlama yapılmıştır, Yapı taşlarını oluşturan kireçtaşının mineralojik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla alınan düşmüş küçük boyutlu el örnekleri üzerinde ince kesit, XRD analizleri, gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın en son aşamasında bozunma ve arazi deney sonuçlarından elde edilen duvar haritaları oluşturulmuştur. In rock engineering applications, the degree of weathering, the mechanism of weathering and the factors that affect the degree of weathering are very important subjects. Weathering may cause physical and mineralogical changes on the rock mass by mechanical and chemical weathering process, thus changing affect and change the physical and geomechanical properties of the rock mass.The study area is one of the cradles of ancient civilizations, study area is in the open-air ancient areas, Mediterranean coasts, Korykos (Kizkalesi) and Kanytella (Kanlıdivane) in the province of Mersin, the processes affecting the weathering mechanism are revealed. These cities are important cities in Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods, they continued to exist in different periods in terms of being both, a settlement and a port city. Although such areas are protected areas, to some extent reduce human damage and preventing human impact destruction to some extent, but does not provide protection against geological and meteorological processes. they have been exposed to many structural damage due to different geological and atmospheric conditions that have changed over the centuries. The most important unit spreading in the study area is limestone, and material used in the construction of ancient cities is the typical lithology of the region. In addition, in the building stones with the same source rock, the processes of weathering and weathering degree is related to different environments and vary from sea level (Korykos / Kızkalesi), to terrestrial environment at an altitude of about 450 m (Kanytella / Kanlıdivane). The building stones of the ancient city of Korykos, which is located at sea level, are exposed to the salting effect of sea water, while the ancient city of Kanytella, which is located at higher levels is interact only with rain water. Additionally; atmospheric factors such as wind, sun rays, day and night differences cause different processes to develop at different heights. Within the scope of this study, various methods have been used to determine the weathering degree of building stones. Weathering mechanism and degree of Weathering in carbonate rocks are determined by using different methods together. This studies is carried out without disturbing the historical monuments, non-destructive test methods Schmidt hammer tests were performed and Vp-Vs ultrasonic wave velocities were measured in the field. In addition, by using observational classification of weathering degree of building stones in the field, an identification was made for each wall. Thin-section and XRF-XRD analyzes were performed on small samples collected in laboratory, to determine the mineralogical properties of the limestone constituting the building stones.
