This study aimed to perform the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Obesity-Related Well-Being Questionnaire (ORWELL 97-TR) for the Turkish society.This methodological study involved 125 people for obesity treatment. Data collection tools were the Patient Information Form, the ORWELL 97-TR, and the Obesity and Weight-Loss Quality of Life Instrument (OWLQOL).The content validity index of the scale was 0.94, and Cronbach's alpha value was 0.906. The findings indicate that the three-factor structure of the scale, which was reduced from 18 items to 15, showed a good agreement.The ORWELL 97-TR scale can be used to assess the life quality of Turkish patients seeking obesity treatment.

Objectives: The purpose of the study is to determine the prevalence of constipation in the elderly receiving institutional care and associated factors. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and analytic study was conducted among 108 elderly patients in three institutional care centers in a city. Cognitive functioning of the elderly was screened through the Mini-Cog test and their levels of physical activity were gathered through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire – Short Form. Diagnosis of constipation was made according to Rome IV criteria. Parametric and non-parametric tests along with logistic regression analysis were utilized in data analysis. Results: The average age of the participants in the study is 74.16±7.51, 74.1% are female and 46.3% have been receiving institutional care for 2-4 years. It was found that 46.3% of the elderly have constipation and 72% used laxatives. 86% of the elderly in the study stated that they strain too hard during defecation, 86% told that they have hard stool, 72% explained they feel that they have a sensation of incomplete evacuation, 68% told they have a sensation of anorectal obstruction/blockage and 62% stated that they have to manually maneuver to facilitate defecation. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the mediation effect of depression on the association between food addiction and body dissatisfaction in patients who seek for treatment for obesity. Methods: The study population consisted of 105 patients admitted to an obesity center in a university hospital. Data from were collected with the patient information form, the Yale Food Addiction Scale, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Body Image Scale. The direct relationship between food addiction and body dissatisfaction and the mediating effect of depression in the relationship between these two constructs were examined using multi-group structural equation modeling analysis by gender. Results: The mean age of the patients was 50.22±10.05, 86.8% of them were females. The mean body mass index of the patients was calculated as 40.29±6.67. It was determined that 38.7% of the sample met the food addiction diagnosis criteria. It was found that 39.1% of females and 35.7% of males had food addiction. As a result of the modeling analysis, it was determined that there was no direct pathway between body dissatisfaction and food addiction, depression symptoms complete mediated the relationship between these two constructs. Results of multi-group analysis showed that the mediation model was consistent across gender. Conclusion: In the treatment of obesity cases in which food addiction and body image disorders coexist, examining the existence of depression and treating it can increase the success rate.

This study was conducted in order to determine factors that influence self-transcendence and meaning in life in the elderly receiving institutional care. This descriptive and analytic study was conducted on 72 elderly individuals living in a nursing home in Turkey. Data were collected with the Barthel Index of Activities of Daily Living (ADL), the Lawton&Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) and the Self-Transcendence Scale (STS). The mean score of STS is 48.17 +/- 6.67 at the intermediate level, and the mean scores of presence and search subscales of the MLQ are 28.07 +/- 6.55 and 24.06 +/- 7.73 above the intermediate level. The STS mean score is poorly correlated with the ADL (r = 0.277) and the IADL scale (r = 0.343). Increased perception of general health status of the elderly improved self-transcendence (ST) level (p = 0.04) and search for meaning in life (ML) level (p = 0.02). Background: This study adapted a methodological approach to develop the Postbariatric Surgery Quality of Life Scale (PBSQLS) to determine the postoperative quality of life in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Materials and Methods: The study population (N = 395) was composed of patients who had undergone bariatric surgery between January 2016 and July 2019 in Sakarya Training and Research Hospital in Sakarya, Turkey; and the sample consisted of those who wanted to participate in the study, were aged 18 and older, literate, and had no cognitive and mental health issues. Results: In this study, the varimax rotation process revealed that the PBSQLS had 18 items, three subfactors with similar characteristics, and a total variance loading of 61.358. In addition, the Postbariatric Surgery of Complications Scale (PBSCS) had one single-factor structure, seven items, and a variance loading of 36.213. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found as 0.884 and 0.702 for the PBSQLS and PBSCS, respectively. Conclusion: The PBSQLS and PBSCS developed as a result of this study can be applied in international studies by ensuring its language and society adaptation and will contribute positively to the literature in this field. Purpose This pilot study was carried out to determine the effect of acupressure on agitation in the elderly with dementia who receive institutional care. Methods The study sample consisted of 38 elderly individuals (acupressure group [AG] = 19, usual-care group = 19). Acupressure application was performed on four points. The results were measured at the beginning (T-0), the week after acupressure was completed (T-1), and 2 weeks after acupressure was completed (T-2). Findings The change in the total Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory score across the groups at T-1, T-2, and T(3)was statistically significant in favor of AG. Objectives The diagnosis of sarcoidosis is frequently challenging, requiring a search for less invasive, more reliable diagnostic methods. The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis has been used in the differential diagnosis of sarcoidosis for many years with a wide sensitivity and specificity rates. The objective of the study is to investigate whether diagnostic performance of the BALF analysis is altered by clinicoradiological findings of patients with sarcoidosis. Materials and methods The present study is a retrospective, single-center, observational study, designed in a sarcoidosis outpatient clinic in a training hospital. Patients who had undergone the bronchoalveolar lavage BAL procedure at diagnosis were included in the study. Demographics, clinical and detailed chest X-ray, and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings at diagnosis were recorded. According to the diagnostic performance, the BALF results were grouped as "diagnostic" and "non-diagnostic," and recorded parameters were compared between the groups. Results Considering the BALF analysis of all the 257 patients, the mean lymphocyte ratio was 41±17.5 (5-80), and the mean CD4/CD8 was 5.5±4.7 (0.1-24.7). The BALF analysis was diagnostic in 56% (n=145) of patients. Diagnostic performance of the procedure did not correlate with any of the demographic data, smoking status, spirometric findings, chest X-ray staging, HRCT findings, and tomography scoring. Extrapulmonary involvement was significantly more frequent in the diagnostic group (66% vs. 34%, p=0.006). Conclusion BALF results signal sarcoidosis in more than half of the patients. The diagnostic role of BALF is greater in patients with extrapulmonary involvement.

Purpose This study aimed to determine the beliefs, attitudes, and phobias of nursing students about obese individuals. Design and Method This descriptive and cross-sectional study involved 658 students from the nursing department of a Turkish university. Data collection tools were the Fat Phobia Scale (FPS), Turkish Attitudes toward the Obese Persons Scale (T-ATOP), and Turkish Beliefs about Obese Persons Scale (T-BAOP). Findings Students had moderate levels of fat phobia and attitudes towards obese individuals and they believed obesity is controlled by individuals. Aim: This study was aimed to investigate the attitudes of surgical nurses toward postoperative opioid use. Method: The descriptive phenomenological study consists of 30 surgical nurses in two hospitals in Turkey. Data were collected by semi-structured face to face interviews. Data analyses were done by qualitative theme analysis. Findings: As a result of the theme analysis, six themes related to surgical nurses' attitudes of postoperative opioid analgesic use were identified. These themes are named as follows: primary indications for opioids, safest route for opioid administration, complications observed following opioid administration, opioid addiction, opioid safety, feeling stressed while administrating opioids. Nurses (13/30) stated that intravenous way is safer as it affects fast, and it is easy to control; while 12 nurses said that intramuscular application is safer as there are few possibilities for complications. While all of the nurses were agreed on that opioids are addictive, eighteen of them think that opioid drugs are safe, and 16 stated that administering opioids did not create stress. Conclusions: Nurses face some obstacles related to the use of opioids in the process of pain management, such as the abuse of opioids and encountering side effects. Pain management and opioid use should be given a great place in nursing education.

In protection from CRC, knowing health beliefs about Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) may help change the perceptions of health such as barrier and benefit and increase participation in screenings. This study was carried out in order to identify the CRC risks of individuals aged over fifty and their attitudes towards having fecal occult blood test. Methods: This study was designed as a descriptive-cross-sectional study. The sample included 590 individuals aged over 50. Data were collected with the question form and the Scale for Assessment of Benefits and Barriers of Colorectal Cancer Screening-FOBT. Results: The rate of having FOBT in the last five years was found 3.1 times higher for 'doctor or any other health specialist advising having test for CRC' (95% CI=1.863-5.209), 5.7 times higher for 'Being diagnosed with colon polyp before' (95% CI=1.365-23.894). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the CRC screening behaviors of individuals aged over 50 in a rural area are quite inadequate. One of the health beliefs, the total perception of benefit in having FOBT was found to be above middle level and the total perception of barrier to be below the middle level.

WOS: 000498729900001 Objectives: The study aims to prospectively assess two patient groups receiving standard care and structured training and counseling (STC), in which sleeve gastrectomy (SG) was implemented, in terms of depression, body image, and quality of life. Methods: This pretest-posttest, repeated-measures, randomized control prospective study was carried out between March 2017 and May 2018 using an experimental design. Of the participants who underwent laparoscopic SG, 26 patients (control) received standard care and 25 patients (intervention) received STC starting before the operation and lasting for 6 months after the operation. Results: The mean age of the patients was 37.1 +/- 11.3 years, and 78.4% of them were females and 68.6% were married. The depression scores of the intervention group 6 months after the operation were found to be significantly lower than the control group, whereas the scores of body image and the quality of life were significantly higher (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results supported that the STC program for bariatric surgery was an effective program. Bulgular : Calismaya katilan yaslilarin yas ortalamasi 75.58±8.77 olup %56.7’si erkektir. Bulunduklari kurumda bakim alma suresi 23.48±24.46 aydir. Yaslilarin %50.6’sinin psikiyatrik tanisi bulunmaktadir. Demansli yaslilarin CMAE puan ortalamasi 46.26±15.10 olup demansi olmayanlara gore anlamli duzeyde yuksektir (Z=-2.132, p=0.033). Mini-Cog puan degerlendirmesine gore bilissel bozulma olasiligi yuksek olarak belirlenen yaslilarin CMAE puan ortalamasi 46.04±15.77 olup dusuk bilissel bozulma olasiligi olanlara gore anlamli duzeyde yuksektir (Z=-4.137, p=0.000). PubMed ID: 25766063 BACKGROUND: The goal of this study was to measure an adverse event rate and determine the potential usefulness of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Global Trigger Tool (GTT). Besides using the GTT to measure the adverse event rate, a comparison was also made with the internal Voluntary Reporting Notification System (VRNS) to identify and compare the strengths and weaknesses of the two approaches. METHOD: Retrospective data were collected from reported patient safety incidents covering a one-year period at Duzce University Hospital, Turkey. Using a range of selection criteria, a total of 219 patient records were selected and then reviewed by a trained GTT team, to investigate the positive triggers in the content of the patient records. RESULTS: It was determined that adverse events per 1000 patient days totalled 80.72. Adverse events per 100 admissions were 29.39, and the rate of admissions with adverse events was 16.67%. The comparison between the GTT and the VRNS showed that the GTT is 19 times more sensitive than the VRNS in the adverse event evaluation process. CONCLUSION: This is the first published study of the rate of adverse events in a Turkish healthcare setting using the GTT. It was found that the GTT was applicable in this setting, yielding more accurate measurement of the adverse event rate. However, the content of the GTT should be adjusted regarding the standards and documentations used in the Turkish healthcare system to be more useful. © 2015 - IOS Press and the authors. Elderly care technicians face numerous cases or crisis situations in which elderly individuals from different backgrounds question the meaning and value of life. Elderly care technicians must acknowledge that the spirituality is an important element in the way an elderly individual receives healthcare and they must be equipped for this matter. This study was conducted in order to examine the influence of "Skill Development Training Program for Spiritual Care of Elderly Individual," which was carried out with students from elderly care program, on the perception of spirituality support in a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study design with control group. As the data collection form, "Spiritual Support Perception" (SSP) scale was used. The mean scores of the intervention group after the training and after one month are 50.39 +/- 5.34 and 51.13 +/- 4.98, respectively, and those of the control group are 43.16 +/- 4.83 and 42.72 +/- 4.48. A statistically significant difference was found between the mean scores of the intervention group from the pretest and the posttests immediately after the training and one month after the training (f = 94.247, p = 0.001). In the control group, however, there was no significant change in the SSP mean scores (f = 0.269, p = 0.77). As a result, this study pointed out the necessity of such training programs for healthcare professionals to make a distinction between their professional duties and their own personalities in order to offer spiritual care to the elderly individual.

Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the level of knowledge of nursing students about palliative care.Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 324 graduate students who received training at a state university. Data were collected by using a questionnaire prepared by the researchers to determine the students' level of knowledge about palliative care and the notion of death. The analysis was performed using parametric and non-parametric tests on computers.Results: The average age of students was 20.56 ± 1.39, 82.7% of them were female, 16.4% graduated from Healthcare Vocational High School, and 40.1% of them were second grade students. The average palliative care knowledge score of students was calculated as 70.54 ± 11.01. The knowledge scores of female students were significantly higher than male students (p = 0.001), and the scores of the third- and fourth-year students were significantly higher than the second-year students (p = 0.001). The palliative care knowledge scores of the respondents who defined the concept of death as “a new beginning for eternal life, rebirth" were significantly lower than those who defined it as "the end of life" (p = 0.02).Conclusions: It was found that the average palliative care score of students is above the intermediate level, and the scores are affected by gender, level of knowledge, age, grade, having received palliative care training, having provided care to patients in the terminal stage and defining ways of death.

Background: It has been suggested that platelet count(PLT) and mean platelet volume(MPV) can be used as inflammation marker in tuberculosis and pneumonia. Aims and objectives: PLT and MPV in sarcoidosis were not investigated. Objective of this study was to determine whether PLT and MPV can be used as a differiantial marker betweeen sarcoidosis and tuberculosis which are granulomatous diseases and presenting with similar symptoms. Methods: We performed prospective study with 100 patients with sarcoidosis (group 1), 83 patients with tuberculosis (group 2), 63 patients with pmoumonia (group 3) and 36 healthy control individuals (group 4). In this study we compared to inflammatory markers, platelet count and MPV values of four groups. Results: WBC, ESR, CRP and PLT values were lower in control group. Between sarcoidosis , tuberculosis and pnoumonia group, these values were significantly lower in sarcodosis group.MPV values was found significantly lower in tuberculosis group. Amaç: Demans küresel olarak önemli sağlık problemlerinden biridir. Demansta tedavi seçeneklerinin ve etkinliğinin sınırlı olması, farmakolojik olmayan müdahaleler ile yaşam kalitesinin artırılması konusundaki çalışmaları yönlendirmiştir. Bunlardan biri olan sanat terapisinin demanslı yaşlıların duygu durum ve bilişsel özellikleri üzerinde ki etkileri çeşitli çalışmaların kapsamında incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda bu çalışma yaşlılara yönelik yürütülecek olan sanat terapi yönteminin hafif demansı olan yaşlıların bilişsel durumu üzerine etkisini incelemek amacı ile yarı-deneysel olarak hafif demansı olan 16 yaşlı birey yürütülmüştür.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmanın verileri, araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan “Bireysel Bilgi Formu” ve “Standardize Mini Mental Test” (MMT) kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Çalışmada, bu sanat eğitimi almış olan bir araştırmacı tarafından resim, heykel, nesne-canlı resmi boyama, kolaj vb. teknikler kullanılarak “Sanat Terapisi” uygulanmıştır.Bulgular ve Sonuç: Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 73,0±7.70’dır. Yaşlıların sanat terapisi etkinliği öncesi MMT puan ortalaması yaklaşık 21 puan, etkinlikten üç ay sonrası ise 20 puandır. Bu puanlar MMT için hafif demans referans aralığındadır ve etkinlik sonrasında anlamlı bir değişim olmamıştır. Yaşlıların üç ay sonraki MMT puanlarının değişmemiş olması hastalığın ilerleyici özelliği göz önünde bulundurularak makul bir sonuç olarak değerlendirilmiştir. The fact that the treatment options and their effectiveness led to studies about enhancing the quality of life through non-pharmacological interventions. The impacts of the art therapy, one of such interventions, on the mood and cognitive features of the elderly with dementia has been investigated within the scope of various studies. In line with this, this study was conducted on 16 elderly individuals with slight dementia in order to investigate the impact of art therapy technique that is applied to the elderly on the cognitive state of elderly individuals with slight dementia as a quasi-experimental study. Material and method: The data of the study was collected through “Individual Information Form”, which was prepared by the researchers and the “Standardized Mini-Mental Test” (SMMT). During the study, “Art Therapy” was implemented by a researcher who received education on art using such techniques as painting, sculpture, painting objects-living things, collage, etc.Conclusion: The average age of the participants is 73.0±7.70. The mean score of the elderly from the SMMT before art therapy implementation is 21, while this figure is 20 three months after the implementation. These scores are in the reference interval of slight dementia For the SMMT and no significant change was observed following the implementation. Considering the progressive feature of the disease, the fact that the SMMT scores of the elderly did not regularly in small groups of elderly individuals with dementia, it becomes a significant acquisition for their socialization.

Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate eating attitudes and obsessive-compulsive symptoms of nursing students. Method: This study was performed with 270 nursing students between FebruaryMarch 2013, in a foundation university and a state univesity. Analyses of datas, which were collected using social-demographics questionnaire form, Maudsley Obssesive-Compulsive Question Form and Eating Attitudes Test, were performed with parametric and non-parametric tests. Results: Mean age of participants was 20.89±1.54, 88.1% were women, 33.7% were student in third class, 32.2% were student in second class and 67.8% were having education in state university. Mean body mass index was 21.48±3.12 and according to weights 75.9% were normal, 12.2% were obese, 11.9%were weak. Mean score for EAT was 15.66±8.50 and %5.6 of students have eating disorder. Mean score for MOCQ was 15.46±5.65. It was noted that eating attitudes and obssesive-compulsive signs were not effected by sex, school of education, residence and parents educational status (p>0.05). EAT scores of obese and over weighted students were significantly higher than normal weighted students (p=0.049). There was a significant difference between class of education and total MOCQ score (p=0.004), controlling (p=0.005) and slowness (p=0.009) sub-dimensions. There was a negative correlation between total MOCQ score and income (p=0.009) and age (p=0.001). In addition, very weakly positive correlations between EAT scores and total MOCQ scores (p=0.001), controlling (p=0.005), slowness (p=0.009), rumination (p=0.001) sub-dimesions were noted. Conclusion: Obesity is related with eating attitude, obsessivecompulsive signs were effeted by educating class, age and family income. Cinsiyet, öğrenim görülen okul, kalınan yer ve anne-baba eğitim düzeyinin öğrencilerin yeme tutumlarını ve obsesif-kompulsif belirtilerini etkilemediği görüldü (p>0.05). Beden kitle indeksine göre kilolu+obez olanların, normal olanlara göre YTT puanları anlamlı düzeyde yüksekti (p=0.049). Öğrenim görülen sınıflar ile MOKSL toplam (p=0.004), kontrol etme (p=0.005) ve yavaşlık (p=0.009) alt boyutlarında anlamlı fark vardı. MOKSL toplam puanının, gelir düzeyi (p=0.009) ve yaş (p=0.001) ile negatif yönde ilişkili olduğu belirlendi. Ayrıca, öğrencilerin YTT puanları ile MOKSL toplam (p=0.001) ve kontrol etme (p=0.001), yavaşlık (p=0.001), ruminasyon (p=0.001) alt boyutları arasında çok zayıf düzeyde pozitif korelasyon olduğu görüldü. Sonuç: Obezitenin yeme tutumuyla ilişkili olduğu, öğrenim görülen sınıfın, yaşın, aile gelir düzeyinin öğrencilerin obsesif-kompulsif belirtilerini etkilediği, yeme davranışı bozuldukça obsesif kompulsif belirtilerin görülme düzeyinin arttığı sonucuna varıldı.

Amac: Demans kuresel olarak onemli saglik problemlerinden biridir. Demansta tedavi seceneklerinin ve etkinliginin sinirli olmasi, farmakolojik olmayan mudahaleler ile yasam kalitesinin artirilmasi konusundaki calismalari yonlendirmistir. Bunlardan biri olan sanat terapisinin demansli yaslilarin duygu durum ve bilissel ozellikleri uzerinde ki etkileri cesitli calismalarin kapsaminda incelenmistir. Bu dogrultuda bu calisma yaslilara yonelik yurutulecek olan sanat terapi yonteminin hafif demansi olan yaslilarin bilissel durumu uzerine etkisini incelemek amaci ile yari-deneysel olarak hafif demansi olan 16 yasli birey yurutulmustur. Gerec ve Yontem: Calismanin verileri, arastirmacilar tarafindan hazirlanan “Bireysel Bilgi Formu” ve “Standardize Mini Mental Test” (MMT) kullanilarak toplanmistir. Calismada, bu sanat egitimi almis olan bir arastirmaci tarafindan resim, heykel, nesne-canli resmi boyama, kolaj vb. teknikler kullanilarak “Sanat Terapisi” uygulanmistir. Bulgular ve Sonuc: Katilimcilarin yas ortalamasi 73,0±7.70’dir. Yaslilarin sanat terapisi etkinligi oncesi MMT puan ortalamasi yaklasik 21 puan, etkinlikten uc ay sonrasi ise 20 puandir. Bu puanlar MMT icin hafif demans referans araligindadir ve etkinlik sonrasinda anlamli bir degisim olmamistir. Yaslilarin uc ay sonraki MMT puanlarinin degismemis olmasi hastaligin ilerleyici ozelligi goz onunde bulundurularak makul bir sonuc olarak degerlendirilmistir. Sanat terapisi demansli yasli bireylerle kucuk gruplar halinde duzenli olarak surduruldugunde onlarin sosyallesmeleri adina onemli bir kazanctir.

ÖZETAmaç: Bu araştırma, cerrahi girişim geçiren fazla kilolu ve obez hastalara bakım veren hemşirelerin bilgi, uygulamaları ve bakım vermede istekli olma durumlarını değerlendirmek amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak gerçekleştirildi.Yöntem: Araştırma bir üniversite hastanesi cerrahi kliniklerinde çalışan hemşireler ve hemşire olmayan ancak personel yetersizliği nedeniyle hemşire statüsünde çalıştırılan (sağlık memurluğu, ebe, acil tıp teknisyeni-ATT, toplum sağlığı teknisyen i) sağlık çalışanlarına araştırmacı tarafından ilgili literatür doğrultusunda hazırlanan soru formunun uygulanması ile gerçekleştirildi. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzdeleme, frekans, ki-kare, Fisher ki-kare istatistik testleri kullanıldı.Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılanların %55’inin lisans, %73’ünün hemşirelik bölümü mezunu ve %57’sinin normal kiloda olduğu, %69’unun çalıştıkları servislerde fazla kilolu/obez hasta bakımı için gerekli özel araç-gerecin bulunmadığını bildirdiği, %52’sinin fazla kilolu/obez hastaya bakım vermede isteksiz oldukları belirlendi.Sonuç: Fazla kilolu/obez hastaya özel bakım girişimlerinin bilinmesi ve uygulanmasının, eğitim durumu ve mezun olunan bölümle ilişkili olarak değişkenlik gösterdiği, erkeklerin kadınlara göre, zayıf olan sağlık çalışanlarının normal kilolu ve fazla kilolu/obez sağlık çalışanlarına göre, fazla kilolu/obez hastaya bakım vermede daha fazla oranda isteksiz oldukları belirlendi.Anahtar Kelimeler: Obezite, hemşirelik, bakım, cerrahi., Aim: The present descriptive study was conducted in order to evaluate the knowledge, application and the degree of willingness of nurses to care for overweight and obese people who experience surgical intervention.Method: The study was carried out with the application of questioner form prepared by the researcher with literature to nurses and non-nurses who are working in nurse statute cause of the lack of employees (health officer, midwife, emergency medical technician-EMT, community health technician) in a university surgical clinics. Percentage, frequency, chi-square, Fisher chi-square statistics tests have been used on the evaluation of the data.Results: It is found out that 55% of the research participants are license graduate, 73% of them are department of nursing graduate and 57% of them are in normal weight, 69% of them stated there isn’t enough equipment for the care of overweight and obese patient in their department, 52% of them are reluctant to care for overweight and obese patient.Conclusion: It is found out that knowledge and application of special care to overweight and obese patient is variable to education and department of graduation, men are more reluctant than women, slim medical staff are more reluctant than normal and overweight/obese ones to care for overweight and obese patient.Key Words: Obesity, nursing, care, surgery.

AIM:In our study, in terms of clinical quality measurement approach, we aimed to focus on whether there was a considerable difference between the treatment received and the treatment required to be taken by patients by using nine packages. METHODS: The research was conducted as retrospective study, which was carried out in a university hospital with 300 beds between January 01 and August 30, 2012. Patient records were determined by a random sampling method. The 9 performance measurement sets developed by were used as a tool of data collection, which consisted of heart attack care, intensive care, Childern and #8217;s asthma care, pnuemonia care, heart failure care, venous thromboembolism care, stroke care, perinatal care, and inpatient psyciatric care. The findings were analyzed in comparison with the findings of The Joint Commission RESULTS: The mixed compatibility rate of all packages was determined to be 55,33%. Only the pneumonia package package was determined to be incompatible with Turkey. The heart attack package was found to be very close to the average of the findings of The Joint Commission. Paralysis of the package was at least compliance package, which was found to be 20.08%. The average of pre-natal care (48,6 %) was found 0.5 point higher than the average of The Joint Commission. The only a heart attack package (%97,9) passed the threshold of 90 %. CONCLUSiON: We determined that The Accountability Measures of the Joint Commission could be applied in the present conditions of Turkey. Only the Pneumonia package needs new requirements to be specified for Turkey. There is no need for a compatibility studies as for the others. Surgical care, heart attack, perinatal and venous thromboembolism packages are the ideal packages for Turkey. [TAF Prev Med Bull 2014; 13(3.000): 201-208]

Objective: Hospital managers in the World and Turkey are under pressure of decreasing excessive operational costs and improving healthcare quality. One of the interventions that will smooth of the severity of this pressure is to manage the waste in the healthcare services. The Hospital Inpatient Waste Identification Tool (HIWIT) is one of the best application tools, which will bridge the knowledge, practice and leadership gaps in this context. The main objective of this study is to examine THE waste in THE hospital inpatient settings in the context of HIWIT’s 5 modules. Methods: This study was conducted by using quantitative research methods. Research and Education Hospital of Duzce University was chosen as a sample center of this research. HIWIT, ward module, patient care module, diagnosis module, treatment module and patient module, was used to collect the data. Three healthcare personnel, June 15th, 2012 and December 31st 2012, carried out application of the modules. Results: 27 waste types were defined and their proportions were determined. Overall waste proportions of five modules were like followed: Word Module 11,11%, Patient Module 16,50%, Patient Care Module 2,52%, Diagnosis Module 44,20% and Treatment Module 25,29 %. The cost of determined using ward module only is 1.725.275 $. Healthcare-associated infections, delay in clinical care and flow delay were determined as the most important waste types in terms of clinical and patient safety for utilization of Social Security Institution (SGK). Conclusion: It is conferred in practice that HIWIT is a handy tool in definition of waste and costing. Reimbursement agencies are the ones, which will take the most advantage of defined waste types. Four components were intended to acquire through waste study: improving performance, diminishing operational costs, shortening operational cycles and improving patient safety. After identifying the main priority areas of waste types, a financial expert or team should be utilized in understanding the financial implications of them. Diagnosis, treatment and patient care modules particularly are expected to contribute more to patient safety which is one of the four intended output components.
