Man'yōshū antolojisi IV.-VIII. yüzyıllar arasındaki yazılı, sözlü geleneğin ürünü şiirleri içeren, en eski Japonca yazılı kaynaktır. Araştırmanın hedefi bugüne kadar pek çok farklı açıdan ele alınmış olan Man'yōshū şiirlerinin incelenmesinde daha önce uygulanmamış bir yöntem ortaya koyarak, bir sanat, edebiyat sosyolojisi kuramı olan oluşumsal yapısalcılığın çözümleme yönteminin bu konudaki imkanlarını incelemektir. Buradan yola çıkarak, araştırmada, antolojinin ilk şiiri, İmparator Yūryaku’nun eseri, oluşumsal yapısalcı yöntem doğrultusunda, anlama, açıklama başlıklarında çözümlenmiştir. Çözümlemeyle eserdeki anlamlı yapılar incelenmiş, eserin dışındaki sosyal yapılarla karşılaştırılmış ve dünya görüşü ortaya konabilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, oluşumsal yapısalcı yöntemin Man'yōshū araştırmaları için bilimsel, bütünlüklü bir bakış açısı sağladığı; metnin tüm edebi özelliklerinin incelenebilmesinin yanında, oluşumsal yapısalcılığa göre toplumun ürünü olarak görülen eserin, metnin çevresindeki yapılar açısından ele almasının önemli bir yaklaşım sunduğu görülmüştür. Çözümlenen şiir özelinde, antolojinin ilk şiiri olarak seçilme sebebi, tespit edilen dünya görüşüne temellendirilerek açıklanabilmiştir. Makaleyle, dünyadaki ve Türkiye’deki Man'yōshū çalışmaları için yeni bir yöntem önerisi getirilmiştir.

Bu çalışmada klasik Japoncadaki kişi bildiren yapılardaki eksilti, Japon edebiyatının ünlü yazarı Murasaki Shikibu’unun Günlüğü’nün (1008-1010) bağlamında ele alınmış, kaynak metinde tespit edilen eksiltiler eserin 1918, 1933, 1954 ve 1965’e tarihlenen dört ayrı diliçi çevirisiyle karşılaştırılmıştır. Konu dilbilim çalışmalarıyla yakından ilgili gözükse de, çalışmada kişi bildiren yapılardaki eksiltinin değişiminde dildışı etmenlerin olduğu savıyla yola çıkılmış ve çalışmanın sonucunda bu etmenler ortaya konulmuştur. Öncelikle örneklemi oluşturan dönemde Japon dilindeki değişimlere etki eden etmenler incelenmiş, yapılan metin analizi ve beş metnin karşılaştırılmasıyla elde edilen sayısal veriler bu açıdan yorumlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar şöyledir: a) 1918 çevirisinde standart dil, yazı ve konuşma dilinin birleştirilmesi gibi dil politikalarının etkisi görülmüştür b) 1933 çevirisi önceki dil politikalarından, militarist döneminin dil politikalarına geçişi yansıtmaktadır. c) 1954 çevirisinde militarist dil politikalarından Amerikan işgal dönemi etkisinde oluşturulan dil politikalarına geçişin etkisi bulunmaktadır. d) 1965 çevirisi ise Amerikan işgal döneminden sonraki Batı etkisinin bir örneğini oluşturur. Bu çalışma Murasaki Shikibu’nun Günlüğü’nü bu konuda ele alan ilk çalışmalardan biri olarak, çeviribilim, diliçi çeviri çalışmaları ve klasik Japon edebiyatı çalışmalarına katkıda bulunmaktadır., This study addressed the differences in ‘person referent’ ellipsis in four different intralingual translations of a classical Japanese text titled The Diary of Lady Murasaki (1008-1010), which date from 1918, 1933, 1954 and 1965 accordingly. This study aimed to reveal the extralinguistical factors that effected the changes seen in the different intralingual translations regarding the ‘person referent’ ellipsis. Firstly it is focused to the factors effected the changes in Japanese. Then the text analysis is applied. The data gathered from text analysis have been construed in the light of extralinguistical factors. The following results are reached: a)1918 translation reflects the influence of language polices such as standard language and unification of written and spoken language, while a close connection reflects with classical language, b)1933 translation is on the border line with previous language policies and militarist language policies, c)1954 translation shows a transition between militarist language policies to American occupation language policies in Japan, d)1965 translation is an example of the Western influence after the American occupation. This investigation not only contributes to translation studies in the context of Japanese and intralingual translations, but also to the studies on Lady Murasaki, her diary, and the studies on classical Japanese literature.

The possibility of marine discharge of a negatively buoyant industrial waste was evaluated by a modeling study using Killworth 3-D, which is the first version of the Modular Ocean Model (MOM). The Model was run with the recorded wind direction and speed on the cruise dates and the circulation patterns for surface and subsurface were found to be similar with the current meter measurements. Model scenarios have been set-up in order to estimate the intensity and direction of the currents in the Nemrut Bay under the condition of wind blowing from a definite direction for a long time. MOM model has been run for four major wind directions, each having duration of 10 days and the behavior of the discharge plume in the worst case has been traced. Also, the behavior of the discharge plume in the real case has been estimated by using the wind data of the region. According to the model results, impact of trace elements that compose the discharge effluent is limited both in time and space. It is concluded that trace elements will leave the Bay in a short time due to the short residence times.

Direct discharges of domestic and industrial wastewaters to the coastal zone of Aegean Sea are an important concern. Design of an environmental baseline assessment program prior to any coastal development is a crucial part of the feasibility studies due to the complexity of the coastal dynamics. The background biogeochemical status of the Nemrut Bay’s water column was set to assess the impact of a proposed industrial discharge. The seawater samples were collected on seasonal bases representing winter (mixed water column) and summer (stratified) conditions, and were analyzed for dissolved heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni, Fe, Mg), dissolved and particulate nutrients (NO 3 - , NO 2 - , PO 4 3- , Si, TOC, TPP, POC, PON), dissolved oxygen (DO) and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) contents. The baseline assessment was based on the Turkish regulatory liabilities. The analyses of the samples showed that anthropogenic influence is mostly detected in stations closer to the shoreline. The Nemrut Bay has quite a low level of pollution regarding the impacts of high intensity of industrial and maritime activities in its vicinity are considered.

Surface sediments collected from nine stations in Nemrut Bay, Aegean Sea were analyzed for trace metals (Hg, Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni, Fe, As, and Mg) and grain sizes. The results were compared with the numerical sediment guidelines used in North America as well as literature values reported for similar studies conducted in Izmit Bay and Izmir Bay. The metal levels were also evaluated according to the enrichment factor and contamination factor analyses. The analyses revealed significant anthropogenic pollution of Hg, Pb, Zn, and As in the surficial sediments of Nemrut Bay.

Best management practices (BMPs) are increasingly being used by decision makers to reduce agricultural non-point source (NPS) pollution while improving productivity for the farmers. Models are used as planning tools and are especially useful for targeting priority areas for BMP implementation. This study describes a modeling system to assess the impacts of agricultural NPS pollution on coastal environments. The approach is based on Remote Sensing (RS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Hydrological Modeling (HM) and applied to a pilot watershed - catchment area of Nif Creek - in the Aegean region of Turkey. Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) map of the selected area is produced from LANDSAT MSS image based on Co-ordination of Information on the Environment (CORINE) classification scheme. Simulator for Water Resources in Rural Basins (SWRRB-WQ) was used to estimate the NPS pollution loads. The effects of agricultural management practices such as application of irrigation, fertilizer and tillage on the streamflow quality and quantity can be determined by such a modeling system.
