Purpose: This study aims to assess stone-free rates after flexible ureterorenoscopy (fURS) using the T.O.HO. (Tallness, Occupied lesion, Hounsfield unit evaluation) scoring system and Ito's nomogram., Materials and Methods: In the study conducted with 484 patients, the following parameters were analyzed: age, sex, comorbidities, hospitalization, affected side, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) history, stone length, stone density, number of stones, location, and presence of hydronephrosis., Results: Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that stone length, stone number, and lower pole stone location were associated with the prediction of stone-free status. The cut-off value for Ito's score was determined to be 13.5 points, with an AUC of 0.792 (sensitivity, 0.609; specificity, 0.821) and a 95% confidence interval of (0.752-0.832) (Fig. 1). The cutoff for the T.O.HO. score was 6.5 points, with an AUC of 0.744 (sensitivity 0.738, specificity 0.602) and a 95% confidence interval of (0.699-0.789)., Conclusion: In conclusion, T.O.HO. scoring system and the Ito's nomogram are promising tools to predict stone-free status (SFS) after fURS in preoperative evaluation. In addition, the success of scoring systems in predicting SFS preoperatively appears promising and offers a potentially valuable approach., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

Abortion was legalised in Turkey in 1983 with a 10-week limit, restrictions on who could provide abortions, and spousal or parental consent requirements. Currently, although abortion is legal, because of structural barriers, access is restricted (O'Neil, Altuntaş, and Keskin 2020). This study aimed to investigate how women strategically mobilise their social networks to overcome such restrictions to abortion care. Drawing from 25 in-depth interviews with urban-educated cis-women aged 24-30, I identify three groups within abortion networks: included, excluded and ambiguous. While included groups comprised largely of female family and friends, excluded groups were male family members and organisations, and the ambiguous category included health professionals and partners. Supporting findings in other contexts, individuals initially utilise their abortion networks to access the provider, they then build abortion solidarity networks to act as buffers against groups they wish to exclude during the abortion experience. Additionally, I show that excluded and ambiguous networks also impact abortion access, decision-making, and experience, even pushing individuals to follow through with illegal or semi-legal abortion procedures. Findings draw attention to the structural boundaries surrounding abortion laws, how patriarchal institutions make access to abortion care and abortion networks challenging, and how social networks may be utilised to alleviate such obstacles.

Objectives: The incidence of drug interactions and adverse reactions increases exponentially with increases in the number of medications consumed. The objective of this study was to investigate drug consumption, in particular nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and to assess the relationship between drug consumption and cognitive function and disability in a group of older people residing in a nursing home., Participants and Setting: Two-hundred residents (108 women, 92 men) of a nursing home in Ankara, Turkey, mean age 77.2 +/- 8.7 years (range, 60-98), were included in the study. Data were obtained about sociodemographic variables and drug consumption, and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) were used to assess the cognitive and functional status., Results: The majority (94.4% of men and 80.4% of women) were prescribed at least one drug, with a mean of 3.59 prescriptions prescribed to women 2.39 to men. The mean number of self-prescribed drugs used by the elderly was higher than found in previous studies. Although there was not a statistically significant difference in regard to socioeconomic status and self-prescribed drug usage, we found a significant positive correlation between nonprescribed drug use and the scores of FIM and MMSE (P < 0.05). The drugs self-prescribed most commonly were NSAIDs, with a rate of 72.5%., Conclusion: This study found high drug consumption correlated with poor cognitive and functional status in elderly residents of a nursing home.
