- Abstract
This paper shows the results of a teaching innovation project, which consisted in providing students with a video description task, by which they could practise their written skills in a collaborative fashion in their "English for Tourism" university studies -- which enables them to obtain a B2 level. A total of 35 adult volunteers participated in this two-month project. Following a task-based approach, and by taking techniques from of audio description, students had to write, in pairs, the script of a touristic promotion clip of Iceland, providing an attractive and accurate description of the images that appeared on the screen, that is, situations proper of the tourism industry. In the second phase of peer review, students had to assess the other pairs' descriptions, and, finally, once revised by themselves and by the teachers, they had to vote for the best ones, with the aid of a rubric that helped them identify the main landmarks to take into account (lexicon, accuracy, etc.). The results show that the students not only enjoyed the task, which increased their motivation for writing in English, but they also obtained better results in the final exam tests than those who did not participate in this collaborative task.

Annualized bleeding rate (ABR) was the efficacy endpoint for both studies. Safety endpoints included adverse events (AEs) and development of FVIII inhibitors. Results: Of the 113 patients in both LEOPOLD trials, 40 (35.4%) patients received rFVIII-FS prophylaxis pre-study and had data available for pre-study total ABR. In LEOPOLD I Part B (n = 22, 35.5%), median (Q1; Q3) total ABR decreased from 2.5 (0.0; 9.0) pre-study to 1.0 (0.0; 6.8), and from 1.0 (0.0; 6.0) pre-study to 0.0 (0.0; 6.02) in LEOPOLD Kids Part A (n = 18, 35.3%). Octocog alfa was well tolerated, and no patients had drug-related serious AEs or inhibitors. Conclusion: Treatment with octocog alfa prophylaxis appeared to have a favorable risk–benefit profile compared with rFVIII-FS and thus could be an effective and improved alternative strategy for individualized treatment for children, adolescent and adult patients with severe hemophilia A currently on rFVIII-FS treatment. Keywords: FVIII, hemophilia A, prophylaxis, recombinant proteins, octocog alfa

In this work, we propose a new approach to the problem of critical point calculation, based on the formulation of Heidemann and Khalil (1980). This leads to a $2 \times 2$ system of nonlinear algebraic equations in temperature and molar volume, which makes possible the prediction of critical points of the mixture through an adaptation of the technique of inversion of functions from the plane to the plane, proposed by Malta, Saldanha, and Tomei (1993). The results are compared to those obtained by three methodologies: ($i$) the classical method of Heidemann and Khalil (1980), which uses a double-loop structure, also in terms of temperature and molar volume; ($ii$) the algorithm of Dimitrakopoulos, Jia, and Li (2014), which employs a damped Newton algorithm and ($iii$) the methodology proposed by Nichita and Gomez (2010), based on a stochastic algorithm. The proposed methodology proves to be robust and accurate in the prediction of critical points, as well as provides a global view of the nonlinear problem.

A precision of order one percent is needed on the parameters of exoplanet-hosts stars in order to correctly characterize the planets themselves. This will be achieved by asteroseismology. It is important in this context to test the influence on the derived parameters of introducing atomic diffusion with radiative accelerations in the models. In this paper, we begin this study with the case of the star 94 Ceti A. We performed a complete asteroseismic analysis of the exoplanet-host F-type star 94 Ceti A, from the first radial-velocity observations with HARPS up to the final computed best models. This star is hot enough to suffer from important effects of atomic diffusion, including radiative accelerations. We tested the influence of such effects on the computed frequencies and on the determined stellar parameters. We also tested the effect of including a complete atmosphere in the stellar models. The radial velocity observations were done with HARPS in 2007. The low degree modes were derived and identified using classical methods and compared with the results obtained from stellar models computed with the Toulouse Geneva Evolution Code (TGEC). We obtained precise parameters for the star 94 Ceti A. We showed that including atomic diffusion with radiative accelerations can modify the age by a few percents, whereas adding a complete atmosphere does not change the results by more than one percent., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) are specialized, multidisciplinary health-care centers providing team-based care to meet the physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs of people with hemophilia (PWH) and may serve as a model for other rare coagulation disorders. Health-care purchasers, as well as the general medical community, may not appreciate the breadth and quality of services provided by HTCs. They exemplify the acculturalization and actualization of integrated care by providing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services that reduce morbidity, mortality, avoidable emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and overall costs, while promoting a longer lifespan and improved patient functioning and outcomes. This is accomplished by a team-based approach relying upon a shared decision-making model to effectively prevent complications and manage symptoms in PWH, who are dependent on high-cost treatments. This article provides a concise yet comprehensive description of the core components of an HTC and the regional and national networks in the United States, which together achieve their incomparable value for all stakeholders. Keywords: hemophilia, coagulation disorders, integrated care, patient-centered care, health-care delivery network, multidisciplinary

- Abstract
The Island Equilibrium and Transport (IslET) model is extended to allow for the effects of ion compressibility albeit for a constant electron temperature. The model describes fully relaxed, saturated, steady-state magnetic islands arising from the evolution of a tearing mode caused either by an instability or an externally imposed resonant perturbation. It assumes that the collision frequency lies in the semi-collisional regime. A salient new feature of the extended model is an equation describing the transport of parallel momentum. The model is applied to evaluate the drag exerted on a thin island by the emission of drift-acoustic waves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetic nanowires supporting field- and current-driven domain wall motion are envisioned for new methods of information storage and processing. A major obstacle for their practical use is the domainwall velocity, which is traditionally limited due to the Walker breakdown occurring when the forcing field or current reaches a critical threshold value. We show through numerical and analytical modeling that the Walker breakdown limit can be extended or completely eliminated in antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic nanowires. These coupled nanowires allow for giant domain-wall velocities driven by field and/or current via spin transfer torque as compared to conventional nanowires.

Condensed Matter - Disordered Systems and Neural Networks - Abstract
We compare theoretical, experimental, and computational approaches to random rough surfaces. The aim is to produce rough surfaces with desirable correlations and to analyze the correlation functions extracted from the surface profiles. Physical applications include ultracold neutrons in a rough waveguide, lateral electronic transport, and scattering of longwave particles and waves. Results provide guidance on how to deal with experimental and computational data on rough surfaces. A supplemental goal is to optimize the neutron waveguide for GRANIT experiments. The measured correlators are identified by fitting functions or by direct spectral analysis. The results are used to compare the calculated observables with theoretical values. Because of fluctuations, the fitting procedures lead to inaccurate physical results even if the quality of the fit is very good unless one guesses the right shape of the fitting function. Reliable extraction of the correlation function from the measured surface profile seems virtually impossible without independent information on the structure of the correlation function. Direct spectral analysis of raw data rarely works better than the use of a "wrong" fitting function. Analysis of surfaces with a large correlation radius is hindered by the presence of domains and interdomain correlations.

- Abstract
Background: Current management practices and outcomes in weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation are poorly understood. We aimed to describe the epidemiology, management, timings, risk for failure, and outcomes of weaning in patients requiring at least 2 days of invasive mechanical ventilation. Methods: WEAN SAFE was an international, multicentre, prospective, observational cohort study done in 481 intensive care units in 50 countries. Eligible participants were older than 16 years, admitted to a participating intensive care unit, and receiving mechanical ventilation for 2 calendar days or longer. We defined weaning initiation as the first attempt to separate a patient from the ventilator, successful weaning as no reintubation or death within 7 days of extubation, and weaning eligibility criteria based on positive end-expiratory pressure, fractional concentration of oxygen in inspired air, and vasopressors. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients successfully weaned at 90 days. Key secondary outcomes included weaning duration, timing of weaning events, factors associated with weaning delay and weaning failure, and hospital outcomes. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03255109. Findings: Between Oct 4, 2017, and June 25, 2018, 10 232 patients were screened for eligibility, of whom 5869 were enrolled. 4523 (77·1%) patients underwent at least one separation attempt and 3817 (65·0%) patients were successfully weaned from ventilation at day 90. 237 (4·0%) patients were transferred before any separation attempt, 153 (2·6%) were transferred after at least one separation attempt and not successfully weaned, and 1662 (28·3%) died while invasively ventilated. The median time from fulfilling weaning eligibility criteria to first separation attempt was 1 day (IQR 0–4), and 1013 (22·4%) patients had a delay in initiating first separation of 5 or more days. Of the 4523 (77·1%) patients with separation attempts, 2927 (64·7%) had a short wean (≤1 d

This paper presents a detailed and precise study of the characteristics of the Exoplanet Host Star and CoRoT main target HD 52265, as derived from asteroseismic studies. The results are compared with previous estimates, with a comprehensive summary and discussion. The basic method is similar to that previously used by the Toulouse group for solar-type stars. Models are computed with various initial chemical compositions and the computed p-mode frequencies are compared with the observed ones. All models include atomic diffusion and the importance of radiative accelerations is discussed. Several tests are used, including the usual frequency combinations and the fits of the \'echelle diagrams. The possible surface effects are introduced and discussed. Automatic codes are also used to find the best model for this star (SEEK, AMP) and their results are compared with that obtained with the detailed method. We find precise results for the mass, radius and age of this star, as well as its effective temperature and luminosity. We also give an estimate of the initial helium abundance. These results are important for the characterization of the star-planet system., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 7 tables, to be published in Astronomy and Astrophysics

We present the results of a search for variable stars in the globular cluster NGC 5286, which has recently been suggested to be associated with the Canis Major dwarf spheroidal galaxy. 57 variable stars were detected, only 19 of which had previously been known. Among our detections one finds 52 RR Lyrae (22 RRc and 30 RRab), 4 LPV's, and 1 type II Cepheid of the BL Herculis type. Periods are derived for all of the RR Lyrae as well as the Cepheid, and BV light curves are provided for all the variables. The mean period of the RRab variables is
= 0.656 days, and the number fraction of RRc stars is N(c)/N(RR) = 0.42, both consistent with an Oosterhoff II (OoII) type -- thus making NGC 5286 one of the most metal-rich ([Fe/H] = -1.67; Harris 1996) OoII globulars known to date. The minimum period of the \RRab's, namely Pab,min = 0.513 d, while still consistent with an OoII classification, falls towards the short end of the observed Pab,min distribution for OoII globular clusters. As was recently found in the case of the prototypical OoII globular cluster M15 (NGC 7078), the distribution of stars in the Bailey diagram does not strictly conform to the previously reported locus for OoII stars. We provide Fourier decomposition parameters for all of the RR Lyrae stars detected in our survey, and discuss the physical parameters derived therefrom. The values derived for the RRc's are not consistent with those typically found for OoII clusters, which may be due to the cluster's relatively high metallicity -- the latter being confirmed by our Fourier analysis of the ab-type RR Lyrae light curves. We derive for the cluster a revised distance modulus of (m-M)V = 16.04 mag. (ABRIDGED), Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures (plus 57 light curve sets, in an Appendix). Purpose: A new high-resolution next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based method was established to type closely related European type II Toxoplasma gondii strains. Methods: T. gondii field isolates were collected from different parts of Europe and assessed by whole genome sequencing (WGS). In comparison to ME49 (a type II reference strain), highly polymorphic regions (HPRs) were identified, showing a considerable number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). After confirmation by Sanger sequencing, 18 HPRs were used to design a primer panel for multiplex PCR to establish a multilocus Ion AmpliSeq typing method. Toxoplasma gondii isolates and T. gondii present in clinical samples were typed with the new method. The sensitivity of the method was tested with serially diluted reference DNA samples. Results: Among type II specimens, the method could differentiate the same number of haplotypes as the reference standard, microsatellite (MS) typing. Passages of the same isolates and specimens originating from abortion outbreaks were identified as identical. In addition, seven different genotypes, two atypical and two recombinant specimens were clearly distinguished from each other by the method. Furthermore, almost all SNPs detected by the Ion AmpliSeq method corresponded to those expected based on WGS. By testing serially diluted DNA samples, the method exhibited a similar analytical sensitivity as MS typing. Conclusion: The new method can distinguish different T. gondii genotypes and detect intra-genotype variability among European type II T. gondii strains. Furthermore, with WGS data additional target regions can be added to the method to potentially increase typing resolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Astrophysics - Abstract
We present BV photometry of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 5286, based on 128 V frames and 133 B frames, and covering the entire face of the cluster. Our photometry reaches almost two magnitudes below the turn-off level, and is accordingly suitable for an age analysis. Field stars were removed statistically from the cluster's color-magnitude diagram (CMD), and a differential reddening correction applied, thus allowing a precise ridgeline to be calculated. Using the latter, a metallicity of [Fe/H] = -1.70 +/- 0.10 in the Zinn & West scale, and [Fe/H] = -1.47 +/- 0.02 in the Carretta & Gratton scale, was derived on the basis of several parameters measured from the red giant branch, in good agreement with the value provided in the Harris catalog. Comparing the NGC 5286 CMD with the latest photometry for M3 by P. B. Stetson (2008, priv. comm.), and using VandenBerg isochrones for a suitable chemical composition, we find evidence that NGC 5286 is around 1.7 +/- 0.9 Gyr older than M3. This goes in the right sense to help account for the blue horizontal branch of NGC 5286, for which we provide a measurement of several morphological indicators. If NGC 5286 is a bona fide member of the Canis Major dwarf spheroidal galaxy, as previously suggested, our results imply that the latter's oldest components may be at least as old as the oldest Milky Way globular clusters., Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures.
