In this work, a meso-macroporous analcime/sodalite zeolite composite was produced by a hybrid synthesis process between a complex template method and hydrothermal treatment at 220 °C of naturally abundant kaolinitic-rich clay, using dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide as an organic soft template to enhance the mesoporous structure. The chemical and morphological properties of the developed zeolites composite were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), attenuated total Reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), N 2 adsorption/desorption; and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) methods were used to study the morphology, chemical composition and structure of the product. Two types of zeolite particles were obtained:(1) hollow microsphere with an attached analcime icositetrahedron of 30-40 µm in size and (2) sodalite microsphere with a ball-like morphology of 3-4 µm in size. Both N 2 adsorption/desorption and surface area data confirmed the high potentiality of the produced zeolite composite to act as an excellent adsorbent to remove inorganic pollutants such as Cu, Cd, Cr, Ni, Zn, and Pb ions, organic pollutants such as dyes, phenolic compounds, and surfactants from water; and their high catalytic activity, especially in the oxidation reaction of volatile organic compounds. The catalytic activity and adsorption ability of the produced analcime/sodalite composite will be tested experimentally in future work.

In contrast to the hyperactive platinum electrode, ARS modified platinum electrode presents a remarkable inertness toward adsorption and surface processes and lends it for further voltammetric applications. Measuring pyrogallol levels in samples is significant for assessing their antioxidant activity, which is crucial for understanding their potential health benefits and ability to combat oxidative stress. In addition, the excess consumption of pyrogallol can have significant negative effects on human health. A voltammetric sensor has been developed for the determination of pyrogallol using ARS modified platinum electrode. The electrode was prepared by electrodeposition of alizarin red S on a platinum electrode using cyclic voltammetry with a potential scan range of - 0.4 to 1.2 V against an Ag/AgCl quasi reference electrode for 60 cycles as optimum number of cycles. The modified electrode was characterized by CV and SEM techniques. This modified alizarin red S platinum electrode showed remarkable electrocatalytic performance and stability, resulting in a significant increase in pyrogallol oxidation current by 11.05% compared to the pyrogallol oxidative current at the unmodified platinum electrode. A well-defined oxidation peak was observed at ~ 0.40 V. The sensor exhibited a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.28 µM and a linear standard curve covering the ranges of 1.0-40 µM and 0.01-10.0 mM pyrogallol. Extensive studies were performed to evaluate possible interferences from various organic and inorganic compounds and yielded satisfactory results that confirm the selectivity of the developed sensor for pyrogallol determination. In addition, the ARS-Pt electrode provided consistently reliable results for the accurate detection of pyrogallol in water and tomato samples., (© 2024. Olive leaves were utilized to produce activated biomass for the removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) from water. The raw biomass (ROLB) was activated with sodium hydroxide, phosphoric acid, and Dead Sea water to create co-precipitated adsorbent (COLB) with improved adsorption performance. The characteristics of the ROLB and COLB were examined using SEM images, BET surface area analyzer, and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. COLB has a BET surface area of 7.763 m2/g, markedly higher than ROLB's 2.8 m2/g, indicating a substantial increase in adsorption sites. Through investigations on operational parameters, the optimal adsorption efficiency was achieved by COLB is 77.9% within 60 min, obtained at pH 6, and CIP concentration of 2 mg/mL. Isotherm studies indicated that both Langmuir and Freundlich models fit the adsorption data well for CIP onto ROLB and COLB, with R2 values exceeding 0.95, suggesting effective monolayer and heterogeneous surface adsorption. The Langmuir model revealed maximum adsorption capacities of 636 mg/g for ROLB and 1243 mg/g for COLB, highlighting COLB's superior adsorption capability attributed to its enhanced surface characteristics post-modification. Kinetic data fitting the pseudo-second-order model with R 2 of 0.99 for ROLB and 1 for COLB, along with a higher calculated q e for COLB, suggest its modified surface provides more effective binding sites for CIP, enhancing adsorption capacity. Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption process is spontaneous (∆G o  < 0), and exothermic (∆H o  < 0), and exhibits a decrease in randomness (∆S o  < 0) as the process progresses. The ΔH° value of 10.6 kJ/mol for ROLB signifies physisorption, whereas 35.97 kJ/mol for COLB implies that CIP adsorption on COLB occurs through a mixed physicochemical process., (© 2024. In this research, some physical properties such as the density, specific heat capacity, and micro-hardness of galena ore lumps purchased from the public market were determined. The microscopic study, using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), confirmed that the as-received galena ore was mostly lead sulfide (PbS). The XRD pattern of the galena powder also elucidated that all the peaks were assigned to PbS. In addition, the as-received galena was roughly crushed, and fine-milled using a high-vibration milling machine with tungsten carbide rings. Nanoscale particles of about 90 nm were produced in a very short milling time of around 15 min. The obtained nanoscale powder was well investigated in the SEM at low and high magnifications to assess the exact range of particle size. Meanwhile, the SEM was employed to investigate the microstructure of sintered samples, where a part of the milled galena powder was compacted and sintered at 700 °C for 2 h. Again, the result of this investigation proved the formation of PbS with even smaller grain size compared with the grain size of the starting galena ore. A high relative sinter density of approximately 97% for galena powder was achieved by sintering under vacuum.
