The aim of this study was to figure out the effects of the submarine hot water springs located on the coast of Doganbey Cape (north of Kuşadasi Bay) on various micro- and macrofaunal assemblages living around these springs. Young sediment samples were collected from different depths at 15 stations. The benthic foraminifer, ostracod and mollusc faunas were investigated. 35 genera and 61 species of benthic foraminifers, 16 genera and 20 species of ostracods and 14 genera and 15 species of molluscs were identified. Typical Aeegan foraminifer fauna was found to be dominant. Besides, individuals with colored tests or abnormal morphology, as well as alien species, which are frequently observed on the Aegean coasts were also observed in the study area. The foraminifer, ostracod and mollusc species also constituted typical Aegean fauna. It is known that the ecological conditions experienced of the Amphistegina lobifera Larsen individuals in typical Aegean benthic foraminifer assemblage have an effect on the abundance distribution. Ideal conditions for Amphis-tegina lobifera Larsen was found to be 18.00-32.00 m depth range and 19-20°C temperatures. CTD conductivity values gradually increased near to the hot water spring but a decrease in the number of individuals were observed. Chemical analyzes in sediment samples were performed with X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis Spectrometer (WDXRF). Heavy metal ingredients (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb) of the sediments were evaluated, concentrations were recorded as Cr>Ni>Mn in samples DB1-DB6 and also in DB15; Mn>Cr>Ni in DB8-DB11 and DB13-DB14; Cr>Mn>Ni in DB7 and in DB12. The radioactive elements U and Th were found to be high in DB9, DB10 and DB11. The chemical and radioactive properties of the sediments were observed to affect the tests of benthic foraminifers, where as no such effect was found on ostracod and mollusc tests. © 2018 General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA). Spindle cell lipoma is a rare lipoma, originates from subcutaneous tissue and mostly seen at back region. In this case report we represent a case with inguinal mass misdiagnosed as inguinal hernia and then diagnosed as spindle cell lipoma. There are two cases in literature with spindle cell lipoma originating from spermatic cord. This case is unique as having both pheochromacytoma and inguinal spindle cell lipoma mistaken as inguinal hernia.

Turkish Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to evaluate the causes and demographics of trauma patients 65 years of age and older, and also the effects of co-morbidities and drug use on trauma. METHODS: This study was performed in Medicine Faculty of Yeditepe University Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine Outpatients Clinic between January 2005 - February 2006. Ninety-one trauma patients (48 males [52.7%], 43 females [47.3%]; mean age 73±5.42; range 65 to 92 years) 65 years of age and older were included into the study. Age, gender, trauma causes, injury types, co-morbidities, drug consumption and injury severity scores were recorded onto the study form. RESULTS: Fifty-seven (62.6%) patients were admitted to the emergency department because of low-energy fall, 13 patients (14.3%) for high-energy falls, 6 patients (6.6%) for low-energy motor vehicle crush, and 14 patients (15.4%) for high-energy motor vehicle crush. Hypertension was significantly more frequent in falls than the other trauma mechanisms (p=0.003). There was a higher rate of femur fracture in low-energy falls than the others (p=0.026). However, the rate of vertebral fracture was higher in high-energy falls (p=0.037). PubMed: 16676246 The controversy between Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) in the prehospital care of trauma patients has not been resolved yet. The purpose of this study was to examine the literature with respect to the type of prehospital care applied to the trauma patients. A total of 76 papers on ATLS and/or BLS for trauma were reviewed regarding the variables such as intravenous catheter application, prehospital fluid resuscitation, transport time, intubation and mortality. As a conclusion, the data in the literature do not support the routine use of on-field ATLS in trauma patients. Prospective randomized trials comparing ATLS and BLS in prehospital management of trauma patients are needed to clarify this issue.
