Objective(s): In this study, the effects of different doses of curcumin application on Ehrlich ascites tumor (EAT) created in the mice of BALB/c type were investigated.Materials and Methods: Curcumin extracts can have hindering effect on tumor volume, vascular density, EAT cells around the tissues, and can support apoptosis. EAT cells (1x106) received from stock animals were injected intraperitoneally (IP) and subcutaneously (SC) to the animals. Then, curcumin was administered IP. Doses of 25 mg/kg IP and 50 mg/kg were administered over 10 days to the animals in the treatment groups in which ascites tumor was induced. The same doses were administered over 15 days in the treatment groups in which solid tumor was induced.Results: Histopathological examination in ascites tumor groups revealed that number of EAT cells at surrounding tissues was smaller in the group received 50 mg/kg curcumin when compared to tumor control group (P

OBJECTIVES: Coxal bone paticipates in the formation of the pelvic skeleton. Anatomy knowledge on coxafemoral joint as well as careful history taking and physical examination are crucial in evaluation and management of disorders involving hip joint. The aims of the present study were to perform morphometric measurements of the human coxal bones, calculation of their articular surface areas and report the range of these parameters regarding Turkish adult population. METHODS: Seventy-two dry human adult coxal bones (39 left and 33 right) from the Anatomy Departments of Erciyes University, Inonu University and Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam University were measured using a caliper sensitive to 0.1 mm. Morphometric measurements were performed through 22 parameters determined. While 19 of these parameters were related to the distance between two points and thicknesses in various parts of the bone, the remaining three were related to the determination of articular surface areas. The articular surface areas of hip bone (facies auricularis (FA), facies lunata (FL) and facies symphsialis (FS)) were calculated with ImageJ software program. RESULTS: The average values of facies auricularis area were 1659.04 ± 470.92 mm(2) and 1637.32 ± 460.15 mm(2) on the left and right coxal bones, respectively. No statistically significant difference was determined between the left and right coxal bone measurements (p > 0.05). We found a positive and significant correlation between articular surface areas of facies auricularis (FA), facies lunata (FL) and facies symphysialis (FS) and maximum width of ilium (rFA = 0.299, rFL = 0.276, rFS = 0.375, respectively and p < 0.05), and distance between spina ilica anterior superior and the upper edge of facies symphysialis (rFA = 0.268, rFL = 0.511, rFS = 0.482, respectively and p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The distribution and mean values of coxal bone morphometric measurements usually differ between individuals and human populations. With this regard, orthopedic surgeons should be aware of the diversity in components of coxal bone dimensions although implants and hip prosthesis components of different sizes are manufactured. Safe routes and estimated distances should be considered during surgical procedures to avoid complications.

Background: Spine is a column that consists of consecutively lined up vertebras. It includes medulla spinalis. It contributes the motions of head, neck and body. Spine is not a straight column. There is a convexity towards the front of the spine (lordosis) at cervical and lumbar areas in adults and a convexity towards the back of the spine (kyphosis) at thoracic and sacral spine areas.

Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is the most commonly diagnosed gynecologic malignancy in the western world. The majority of these cancers are curable, but a subset about 15-20% of endometrial tumors exhibits an aggressive phenotype. Based on clinic-pathological and molecular characteristics, EC has been classified into two groups: Type I estrogen-dependent adenocarcinomas, which have a good prognosis and an endometrioid histology, and Type II or non-estrogen-dependent EC associated with poor prognosis and non-endometrioid histology. EC develops as a result of a stepwise accumulation of alterations that seem to be specific of each histological type. However, more knowledge is needed to better understand the differences in the biology and the clinical outcome of EC. We would like to highlight the need to explore new potential biomarkers of EC as a tool for the detection and monitoring of aggressive endometria I tumors that, at the same time, will allow us to develop novel and more selective molecular targeted therapies against EC. Brain balance changes have been recognised in migraine, but cerebellar function between or during attacks has been assessed only in a few studies. Previous studies have indicated that migraine affects cerebellar function. In the present study we aimed to evaluate the hemicerebellar volume changes of patients with migraine without aura (MWoA). Volumetric changes of cerebellar hemispheres were evaluated in terms of asymmetry using stereological methods on magnetic resonance images (MRI) retrospectively. Nineteen patients with MWoA and 18 age- and gender-matched control subjects were included in the study. MRIs were analysed by using the point-counting approach of stereological methods by Cavalier's principle. There was no statistically significant cerebellar atrophy or hemicerebellar asymmetry between the MWoA and control subjects. There was no cerebellar atrophy or asymmetry between the MWoA and age-matched control group. The stereological evaluation of cerebellar asymmetry and atrophy in humans is important for both clinicians and anatomists. The technique is simple, inexpensive, and reliable.
