- Abstract
Objective: to investigate the early neonatal outcomes of very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants discharged home from neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Turkey. Material and methods: a prospective cohort study was performed between April 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017. The study included VLBW infants admitted to level III NICUs. Perinatal and neonatal data of all infants born with a birth weight of.1500 g were collected for infants who survived. Results: data from 69 NICUs were obtained. The mean birth weight and gestational age were 1137 +/- 245 g and 29 +/- 2.4 weeks, respectively. During the study period, 78% of VLBW infants survived to discharge and 48% of survived infants had no major neonatal morbidity. VLBW infants who survived were evaluated in terms of major morbidities: bronchopulmonary dysplasia was detected in 23.7% of infants, necrotizing enterocolitis in 9.1%, blood culture proven late-onset sepsis (LOS) in 21.1%, blood culture negative LOS in 21.3%, severe intraventricular hemorrhage in 5.4% and severe retinopathy of prematurity in 11.1%. Hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus was diagnosed in 24.8% of infants. Antenatal steroids were administered to 42.9% of mothers. Conclusion: the present investigation is the first multicenter study to include epidemiological information on VLBW infants in Turkey. Morbidity rate in VLBW infants is a serious concern and higher than those in developed countries. Implementation of oxygen therapy with appropriate monitoring, better antenatal and neonatal care and control of sepsis may reduce the prevalence of neonatal morbidities. Therefore, monitoring standards of neonatal care and implementing quality improvement projects across the country are essential for improving neonatal outcomes in Turkish NICUs., Turkish Neonatal Society

- Abstract
Background to evaluate the prevalence, risk factors and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Turkey and to establish screening criteria for this condition. Methods: a prospective cohort study (TR-ROP) was performed between 1 April 2016 and 30 April 2017 in 69 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Infants with a birth weight (BW)=1500 g or gestational age (GA)<= 32 weeks and those with a BW> 1500 g or GA> 32 weeks with an unstable clinical course were included in the study. Predictors for the development of ROP were determined by logistic regression analyses. Results: the TR-ROP study included 6115 infants: 4964 (81%) with a GA <= 32 weeks and 1151 (19%) with a GA>32 weeks. Overall, 27% had any stage of ROP and 6.7% had severe ROP. A lower BW, smaller GA, total days on oxygen, late-onset sepsis, frequency of red blood cell transfusions and relative weight gain were identified as independent risk factors for severe ROP in infants with a BW=1500 g. Of all infants, 414 needed treatment and 395 (95.4%) of the treated infants had a BW <= 1500 g. Sixty-six (16%) of the treated infants did not fulfil the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity requirements for treatment. Conclusions: screening of infants with a GA <= 34 weeks or a BW<1700 g appears to be appropriate in Turkey. Monitoring standards of neonatal care and conducting quality improvement projects across the country are recommended to improve neonatal outcomes in Turkish NICUs., NA

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess psychiatric comorbidity and levels of self-injurious behavior, suicide probability, life-satisfaction, self-esteem, and loneliness in adolescents with acne as compared with a control group. Method: The study was conducted with 104 adolescents with acne who were admitted to the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the Suleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty during a one-year period and with 102 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Suicide Probability Scale (SPS), Life Satisfaction Inventory, Short-form of the UCLA Loneliness Scale, and Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS) were administered to the case and control groups. Both groups were assessed according to the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version-Turkish Version. Additionally, the Acne Quality of Life Scale, Global Acne Grading System, and Visual Analog Scale were administered to the case group. Results: Adolescents with acne were found to have lower levels of self-esteem and life satisfaction and higher levels of loneliness compared to controls. The mean scores of SPS and its negative self-evaluation and hostility subscales were found to be significantly higher in adolescents with acne. The presence of self-injurious behavior and psychiatric comorbidity were shown to be significantly higher in the case group than the control group, and this difference was statistically significant. The most common diagnosis in adolescents with acne was generalized anxiety disorder, and psychological diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and bulimia nervosa were significantly more common in adolescents with acne compared to the control group.Discussion: The presence of high levels of psychiatric comorbidity, suicide probability, and self-injurious behavior in adolescents with acne in our study suggests that psychiatric evaluation should be included in acne treatment plans. Our study demonstrates the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach for acne treatment.Key Words: Acne vulgaris, adolescent, self-injurious behavior, suicide, comorbidity. 100

Summary: Background: Since adolescents are psychologically more unstable, the emergence of acne vulgaris during adolescence makes this disease a focal point of concern for many individuals. Aim: In this study, psychiatric comorbidity and levels of self‐injurious behavior, suicide probability, life satisfaction, self‐esteem and loneliness in adolescents with acne was assessed and compared with a control group. Methods: The study was conducted with 104 adolescents with acne and 102 age‐ and sex‐matched healthy controls. The Rosenberg Self‐Esteem Scale, Suicide Probability Scale (SPS), Life Satisfaction Inventory, Short form of the UCLA Loneliness Scale and Inventory of Statements About Self‐Injury (ISAS) were administered to the case and control groups. Both groups were assessed according to the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School‐Age Children‐Present and Lifetime Version‐Turkish Version. Results: Adolescents with acne were found to have lower levels of self‐esteem and life satisfaction and higher levels of loneliness compared to controls. The mean scores of SPS and its negative self‐evaluation/hostility subscales were found to be significantly higher in adolescents with acne. The presence of self‐injurious behavior and psychiatric comorbidity were shown to be significantly higher in adolescents with acne. Conclusions: The presence of high levels of psychiatric comorbidity, suicide probability, and self‐injurious behavior in adolescents with acne in our study suggests that psychiatric evaluation should be included in acne treatment plans. Psychological assessment of adolescents with acne vulgaris is important for contributing to the detection of any potential covert sexual abuse. Our study demonstrates the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for acne treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride (PEH) is a sympathomimetic agent that is widely used in common cold disease in children. Though side effects of PEH are well known, it is preferred by many pediatricians in order to benefit from its symptomatic relief in common cold disease. A case of acute urinary retention due to PEH in a three-year-old boy is reported. The aim of this case report is to emphasize the clinical importance and differential diagnosis of PEH overdose in children and to discuss the appropriate treatment approach to PEH overdose in the emergency department. Anahtar Kelimeler: Akne vulgaris, ergen, kendine zarar verme davranışı, intihar, komorbidite., Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess psychiatric comorbidity and levels of self-injurious behavior, suicide probability, life-satisfaction, self-esteem, and loneliness in adolescents with acne as compared with a control group. The most common diagnosis in adolescents with acne was generalized anxiety disorder, and psychological diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and bulimia nervosa were significantly more common in adolescents with acne compared to the control group. Discussion: The presence of high levels of psychiatric comorbidity, suicide probability, and self-injurious behavior in adolescents with acne in our study suggests that psychiatric evaluation should be included in acne treatment plans. Our study demonstrates the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach for acne treatment. Keywords: Acne vulgaris, adolescent, self-injurious behavior, suicide, comorbidity., Tez (Doktora) - Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Çocuk ve Ergen Ruh Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı, 2016., Kaynakça var.

Objective: The aim of the present study is to determine the demographic and clinical characteristics as well as psychiatric diagnoses of children and adolescents who applied to Süleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty Child Psychiatry polyclinic in order to get a judicial report. Method: In children and adolescents sent to Süleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty Child Psychiatry polyclinic between 05/01//2007-05/01/2012 in order to get a judicial report; in terms of age, gender, type and frequency of abuse, abuser features, the age when the abuse started, the family's approach towards the abu-se and the family's approach towards their victim child, psychiatric diagnoses as per the diagnosis classificati-on of DSM-IV-TR were examined retrospectively. Findings: The majority of the cases were females (78.7%). The most frequent sexual abuse type was sexual penetration (47.5%). 55% of the cases were subjected to sexual abuse at the ages of 12 -16. Most of the cases (63.7%) were subjected to sexual abuse once. The most frequent sexual abuser type was non-relative acquaintances (66.3%). While active psychopathology has not been observed in 27.5 % of the cases, the most frequently observed psychiatric diagnosis is post-traumatic stress disorder (32.5 %). It was observed that most of the families (91.3 %) had a supportive-protective approach towards their victim children. Conclusion: It should never be forgotten that sexual abuse is a very important public health problem because sexual abuse in children and adolescents can cause psychiatric disorders both during the period of sexual abuse and during adulthood. Great significance should be given to the treatment and rehabilitation of the cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Material and methods A prospective cohort study was performed between April 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017. the study included VLBW infants admitted to level III NICUs. Perinatal and neonatal data of all infants born with a birth weight of.1500 g were collected for infants who survived. Results Data from 69 NICUs were obtained. the mean birth weight and gestational age were 1137 +/- 245 g and 29 +/- 2.4 weeks, respectively. Conclusion the present investigation is the first multicenter study to include epidemiological information on VLBW infants in Turkey. Morbidity rate in VLBW infants is a serious concern and higher than those in developed countries. Implementation of oxygen therapy with appropriate monitoring, better antenatal and neonatal care and control of sepsis may reduce the prevalence of neonatal morbidities. Therefore, monitoring standards of neonatal care and implementing quality improvement projects across the country are essential for improving neonatal outcomes in Turkish NICUs., Turkish Neonatal Society [2-2016]; Turkish Neonatal Society, This study was supported by the Turkish Neonatal Society, http://www.neonatology.org.tr, number 2-2016, received by AYB. Background To evaluate the prevalence, risk factors and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Turkey and to establish screening criteria for this condition., Methods A prospective cohort study (TR-ROP) was performed between 1 April 2016 and 30 April 2017 in 69 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Infants with a birth weight (BW)=1500 g or gestational age (GA) 1500 g or GA> 32 weeks with an unstable clinical course were included in the study. Predictors for the development of ROP were determined by logistic regression analyses., Results The TR-ROP study included 6115 infants: 4964 (81%) with a GA 32 weeks. Of all infants, 414 needed treatment and 395 (95.4%) of the treated infants had a BW, Conclusions Screening of infants with a GA
