Abstract

The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient $N=Z+1$ nucleus $^{87}_{43}$Tc$^{\ }_{44}$ have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction $^{54}$Fe($^{36}$Ar, $2n1p$)$^{87}$Tc at the Grand Acc\'el\'erateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliary NEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt $\gamma$-rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of $^{87}$Tc from the (9/2$^{+}_{g.s.}$) state to the (33/2$^{+}_{1}$) state was established based on 6 mutually coincident $\gamma$-ray transitions. The constructed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp backbending at $\hbar\omega\approx 0.50$ MeV. A decrease in alignment frequency and increase in alignment sharpness in the odd-mass isotonic chains around $N=44$ is proposed as an effect of the enhanced isoscalar neutron-proton interactions in odd-mass nuclei when approaching the $N=Z$ line.

Abstract

International audience; Excited states in the neutron-deficient nucleus $^{87}$Tc have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction $^{54}$Fe($^{36}$Ar, 2$n$1p) $^{87}$Tc at 115 MeV beam energy. The AGATA γ -ray spectrometer coupled to the DIAMANT, NEDA, and Neutron Wall detector arrays for light-particle detection was used to measure the prompt coincidence of $\gamma$ rays and light particles. Six transitions from the deexcitation of excited states belonging to a new band in $^{87}$Tc were identified by comparing $\gamma$-ray intensities in the spectra gated under different reaction channel selection conditions. The constructed level structure was compared with the shell model and total Routhian surface calculations. The results indicate that the new band structure in $^{87}$Tc is built on a spherical configuration, which is different from that assigned to the previously identified oblate yrast rotational band.

NEDA has been designed to be a versatile device, with high-detection efficiency, excellent neutron-gamma discrimination, and high rate capabilities. It will be employed in physics campaigns in order to maximise the scientific output, making use of the different stable and radioactive ion beams available in Europe. the first implementation of the neutron detector array NEDA with AGATA 1 pi was realised at GANIL. 5 pags., 4 figs., The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N=Z+1 nucleus Tc444387 have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction Fe54(Ar36, 2n1p)Tc87 at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliary NEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt γ rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of Tc87 from the (9/2g.s.+) state to the (33/21+) state was established based on six mutually coincident γ-ray transitions. The constructed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp backbending at ω≈0.50 MeV. Abstract

The low-lying energy spectrum of the extremely neutron-deficient self-conjugate (N=Z) nuclide Ru448844 has been measured using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) spectrometer, the NEDA and Neutron Wall neutron detector arrays, and the DIAMANT charged particle detector array. Excited states in Ru88 were populated via the Fe54(Ar36,2nγ)Ru88∗ fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex. The observed γ-ray cascade is assigned to Ru88 using clean prompt γ-γ-2-neutron coincidences in anticoincidence with the detection of charged particles, confirming and extending the previously assigned sequence of low-lying excited states. It is consistent with a moderately deformed rotating system exhibiting a band crossing at a rotational frequency that is significantly higher than standard theoretical predictions with isovector pairing, as well as observations in neighboring N>Z nuclides. The direct observation of such a "delayed" rotational alignment in a deformed N=Z nucleus is in agreement with theoretical predictions related to the presence of strong isoscalar neutron-proton pair correlations.

Abstract

International audience; The low-lying energy spectrum of the extremely neutron-deficient self-conjugate ($N$=Z) nuclide $^{88}_{44}$Ru$_{44}$ has been measured using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) spectrometer, the NEDA and Neutron Wall neutron detector arrays, and the DIAMANT charged particle detector array. Excited states in $^{88}$Ru were populated via the $^{54}$Fe($^{36}$Ar,2n$γ$)$^{88}$Ru* fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex. The observed $γ$-ray cascade is assigned to $^{88}$Ru using clean prompt $γ$-$γ$-2-neutron coincidences in anticoincidence with the detection of charged particles, confirming and extending the previously assigned sequence of low-lying excited states. It is consistent with a moderately deformed rotating system exhibiting a band crossing at a rotational frequency that is significantly higher than standard theoretical predictions with isovector pairing, as well as observations in neighboring $N>Z$ nuclides. The direct observation of such a “delayed” rotational alignment in a deformed $N$=Z nucleus is in agreement with theoretical predictions related to the presence of strong isoscalar neutron-proton pair correlations.

Abstract

Abstract

WOS: 000344126300013 The adsorption ability of miswak (Salvadora persica L.) waste was investigated for the removal of common heavy metals; Pb(II), Cu(II), Ni(E) and Cd(II), from aqueous systems. The miswak mainly consists of saponins, tannins, silica and resin, which are accounted for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous systems. The effects of various parameters, such as solution pH, contact time, initial concentration of the heavy metal ions and adsorbent dosage were examined. The linear correlation coefficients of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were obtained and the results revealed that the Freundlich isotherm fitted the experiment results better than Langmuir isotherm (r2=0.974-0.993). The maximum adsorption capacities of Pb(E), Cd(II), Cu(E) and Ni(E) for per g miswak waste were calculated as 6.84 +/- 0.23, 5.91 +/- 0.20, 4.56 +/- 0.17 and 3.73 +/- 0.15 mg, respectively. Five cycles of adsorption-desorption were carried out revealing the strong reuse potential of this low-cost adsorbent. The results indicate that the miswak waste, which has a very low economical value, could be used to effectively adsorb common heavy metals from aqueous systems for environmental cleaning purposes.

Abstract

Excited states in the neutron-deficient nucleus 87 Tc have been studied via the fusion-evaporation reaction 54 Fe( 36 Ar, 2n1p) 87 Tc at 115 MeV beam energy. The AGATA γ-ray spectrometer coupled to the DIAMANT, NEDA, and Neutron Wall detector arrays for light-particle detection was used to measure the prompt coincidence of γ rays and light particles. Six transitions from the de-excitation of excited states belonging to a new band in 87 Tc were identified by comparing γ-ray intensities in the spectra gated under different reaction channel selection conditions. The constructed level structure was compared with the shell model and total Routhian surface calculations. The results indicate that the new band structure in 87 Tc is built on a spherical configuration, which is different from that assigned to the previously identified oblate yrast rotational band QC 20210518

Abstract

The low-lying excited states in the neutron-deficient N = Z + 1 nucleus 8743 Tc 44 have been studiedvia the fusion-evaporation reaction 54 Fe( 36 Ar, 2n1p) 87 Tc at the Grand Accélérateur National d’IonsLourds (GANIL), France. The AGATA spectrometer was used in conjunction with the auxiliaryNEDA, Neutron Wall, and DIAMANT detector arrays to measure coincident prompt γ-rays, neutrons, and charged particles emitted in the reaction. A level scheme of 87 Tc from the (9/2 +g.s. ) state to the (33/2 +)statewasestablishedbasedon6mutuallycoincidentγ-ray transitions. The con-1structed level structure exhibits a rotational behavior with a sharp back bending at ~ω ≈ 0.50 MeV. A decrease in alignment frequency and increase in alignment sharpness in the odd-mass isotonic chains around N = 44 is proposed as an effect of the enhanced isoscalar neutron-proton interactions in odd-mass nuclei when approaching the N = Z line. Abstract

WOS: 000372866900001, The NEutron Detector Array (NEDA) project aims at the construction of a new high-efficiency compact neutron detector array to be coupled with large gamma-ray arrays such as AGATA. The application of NEDA ranges from its use as selective neutron multiplicity filter for fusion-evaporation reaction to a large solid angle neutron tagging device. In the present work, possible configurations for the NEDA coupled with the Neutron Wall for the early implementation with AGATA has been simulated, using Monte Carlo techniques, in order to evaluate their performance figures. The goal of this early NEDA implementation is to improve, with respect to previous instruments, efficiency and capability to select multiplicity for fusion-evaporation reaction channels in which 1, 2 or 3 neutrons are emitted. Each NEDA detector unit has the shape of a regular hexagonal prism with a volume of about 3.23 l and it is filled with the EJ301 liquid scintillator, that presents good neutron-gamma discrimination properties. 32. Determination of uranium and thorium concentrations in sediment samples by using solid state nuclear track detectors.

Abstract

In this study, uranium and thorium concentrations in the sediment samples collected from the Gulf of Izmit in Marmara Sea were determined using neutron radiography method and alpha-autoradiography method. Mean uranium concentrations calculated for the sediment samples collected from the boreholes S2, S3, S5, S8 and KS-2 were found to be 5.99 μg/g (3.58-8.16 μg/g), 4,59 μg/g (2.54-8.22 μg/g), 4.03 μg/g (2.13-6.9 μg/g), 3.71 μg/g (2.36-4.48 μg/g) and 2.81 μg/g (2.16-4.06 μg/g), respectively. The highest uranium concentration in all borehole samples was obtained from borehole S3 with a value of 8.22 μg/g at a depth of 77.00 m, followed by borehole S2 with a value of 8.16 μg/g at 76.95 m depth. These results also confirms the possibility of thermal sources at boreholes S2 and S3. The mean thorium concentrations in boreholes S3 and S8 were found to be 15.26 μg/g (9.60-17.49 μg/g) and 15.76 μg/g (13.89-17.37 μg/g), respectively. The highest thorium concentration in obtained samples from all boreholes was obtained in borehole S3 with a value of 17.49 μg/g at a depth of 77.00 m., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract

The low-lying energy spectrum of the extremely neutron-deficient self-conjugate (N=Z) nuclide _{44}^{88}Ru_{44} has been measured using the combination of the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) spectrometer, the NEDA and Neutron Wall neutron detector arrays, and the DIAMANT charged particle detector array. Excited states in ^{88}Ru were populated via the ^{54}Fe(^{36}Ar,2nγ)^{88}Ru^{*} fusion-evaporation reaction at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) accelerator complex. The observed γ-ray cascade is assigned to ^{88}Ru using clean prompt γ-γ-2-neutron coincidences in anticoincidence with the detection of charged particles, confirming and extending the previously assigned sequence of low-lying excited states. It is consistent with a moderately deformed rotating system exhibiting a band crossing at a rotational frequency that is significantly higher than standard theoretical predictions with isovector pairing, as well as observations in neighboring N>Z nuclides. The direct observation of such a "delayed" rotational alignment in a deformed N=Z nucleus is in agreement with theoretical predictions related to the presence of strong isoscalar neutron-proton pair correlations.
