Caught between the seemingly contradictory imageries of particularity and universality, 'European identity' could in fact be presumed but as a shorthand for ontological anxiety. The ('euro-') centric ontology that it denotes is marked by an ongoing ambivalence that both recoils from and accepts the superfluousness of boundaries. The obverse of this ambivalent concern with boundaries, we suggest, are the narrative efforts to consign it to the singular agency of the 'impossible' boundary crossing. Cinematographically speaking, the otherwise mute ontological anxiety is contained in the precariousness of the figures of colonizer and migrant. The way a 'European' cinema relates to these figures becomes all the more significant where 'Europe' denotes a challenging relationship, and not a 'thing'. It is in view of the ways in which they respond to this challenge that we examine Zama (Martel, 2017) and The Other Side of Hope (Kaurismäki, 2017). The focus, in other words, is on what nevertheless escapes their efforts: while Zama's out-of-place 'colonizer' obscures the inherent placelessness of colonial agency, Hope's symbiotic relationship between the self and the other withholds the reversibility of the 'self/other' dualism. In the instrumental visibility of their singular figures, we hope to show, both films contribute to the incidental visibility of the 'European' claim to transcend its own dualisms. The figures of colonizer and migrant are in fact the relatively visible symptoms of a cinematic labour whose ambivalences remain otherwise invisible.

Porokeratosis mibelli (PM) is a rare, chronic keratinization disorder that has unknown etiology and may be inherited. PM is considered a premalign lesion, characterized by thin plaques with atrophic center and surrounded by a hyperkeratotic border. PM is more common in men and is usually located in the extremities, but occasionally the involvement of the face and genital area is also seen. Because of the potential for malignant degeneration, treatment and follow-up of PM must be performed. Here, we present a 17-years-old female patient who diagnosed with PM in the face region and performed cryotherapy and PM is discussed in the light of the literature. Transportation is a service sector which has one of the most important places at the economic development of a country. The externalities which it generates, its costs and pricing policies increase the regulatory function of the state in the sector in terms of especially social state and public utility. Brain metastasis from non muscle invasive transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder occurs very rarely. Herein, a patient who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor and received intravesical bacillus Calmette- Guérin for pT1, G3 bladder carcinoma accompanied by carcinoma in situ, and who subsequently developed solitary cerebellar metastasis following 18 months cystoscopic follow up period with normal findings was reported. To our knowledge, only two cases of solitary cerebellar metastasis from pT1 bladder cancer was reported in the English literature. © 2015, Ege University Press. All rights reserved.

Diğer bilim dallarına nispeten akademik anlamda yeni bir disiplin olarak değerlendirilen turizmin kendi literatürü yaklaşık kırk yıllık yayınlardan oluşmaktadır. Turizmin yeni bir disiplin olması nedeniyle, bilimsel anlamda araştırma ve çalışmalarda bulunan turizm akademisyenlerinin uzmanlık alanları çoğunlukla diğer disiplinlerden oluşmakta ve bu yüzden turizm fenomenini açıklamak için kendi birikimlerini kullanmaktadırlar. Bu birçok akademisyenin turizm endüstrisinin kendine özgü özelliklerini göz önünde bulundurmadan, doğrudan tüketici davranış teorilerini kullanmaya başlamalarını açıklayabilmektedir. Şikayet etme davranışı da buna dâhildir. Bu makale (I) tüketicilerinin şikâyet etme davranışlarını şekillendiren endüstrinin bu kendine özgü özelliklerini incelemeyi ve (II) turist şikâyetlerinin olası kısıtlamalarını belirlemeyi hedeflemektedir. Konuyla ilgili literatürün detaylı incelenmesi turistleri müşterilerden ayıran beş yapının (zaman, katılım, iletişim, yakınlık ve tatil duygusu) farklılık yaratıyor olabileceğini göstermiştir. Konuyla ilgili literatürden önemli bulgular bölümünden sonra bu yapıların tanımları ve bunların akademik ve endüstriyel çıkarımlar sunulmuştur.

Despite the continuously increasing number of published work on use of internet in tourism and hospitality literature, little has been written on destination based comparisons and lessons to be learnt from the successful practices. Indeed, analyzing the well performing destinations and comparing their practices with not so well performing counterparts would provide useful insights for the hoteliers around the world in general and later hoteliers in particular. The aim of the study is first to find out the usage of Internet in the hotel industries of two tourist destinations, namely Hong Kong and Northern Cyprus then compare the internet related practices carried out by hotels in these two locations. To do so, a research process carried out through members of major hotel associations in both locations. The research process was carried out by using a questionnaire that developed for front office and marketing managers of 56 hotels in Hong Kong and 47 in Northern Cyprus. According to research findings hotels in Northern Cyprus are not efficient in internet using than hotels in Hong Kong especially in having professional service in designing their web sites, updating, online reservation, registering search engines etc. Discussion of research findings, implications and limitations are also given., Turizm ve konaklama literatüründe internet kullanımına ilişkin giderek artan sayıda yayınlanan çalışma olmasına rağmen, bunların pek azı destinasyon temelli karşılaştırmalar ve başarılı uygulamalardan alınan dersler üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Gerçekten, başarılı destinasyonların analizi ve uygulamalarının başarı düzeyi daha düşük olan destinasyonlarla karşılaştırılması, genel olarak tüm dünyadaki ve özellikle gelişmekte olan otel işletmelerine işlevsel bir anlayış kazandıracaktır. Bu çalışma, Hong Kong ve Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti (KKTC) destinasyonlarının otel endüstrilerinde internet kullanımını belirlemeyi ve otellerin internet ile ilgili uygulamalarını karşılaştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Hong Kong ve KKTC'nin belli başlı otel birliklerine yönelik olarak bir araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu araştırma Hong Kong'da yer alan 56 ve KKTC'de yer alan 47 otelin ön büro ve pazarlama yöneticilerine yönelik geliştirilen bir soru formu kullanılarak yürütülmüştür. Araştırma bulgularına göre KKTC otellerinin internet kullanımı, Hong Kong'daki benzerlerine oranla özellikle web sitesi tasarımında profesyonel hizmet kullanımı, güncelleme, online rezervasyon, arama motoruna kayıtlılık gibi alanlarda yetersiz kalmaktadır. Araştırma bulgularına yönelik ayrıntılı tartışma, çıkarımlar ve sınırlılıklar ayrıca metin içinde belirtilmektedir.

White muscle disease (WMD) is a world-wide nutritional disease of all animal species characterised by degeneration of skeletal and cardiac muscles. In the present study we determined the cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in hearts of the lambs with WMD (n = 15). Eight clinically healthy lambs served as control. Creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase MB (CK-MB), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities were analysed for both groups. cTnI levels were measured by a commercially available ELISA kit. Mean cTnI (10.49 ± 0.25 ng/ml), CK (261.16 ± 38.61 U/l), CK-MB (214.16 ± 12.71 U/l), AST (125.83 ± 1.05), and LDH (228.77 ± 14.86 U/l) concentrations were higher in WMD cases. Immunohistochemistry revealed definitive loss of cTnI expression in all cases. None of the 8 controls showed loss of the cTnI expression. However, iNOS immunoreactivity was augmented in degenerated cardiac myocytes and macrophages infiltrating to the interstitium compared to controls. The results of the study suggested that cTnI antibody might successfully be used as a sensitive test in the diagnosis of myocardial injury. iNOS expression augments in cardiac myocytes in lambs with WMD, most likely through influencing the signalling pathways to iNOS induction.
